Alright so—
Ryuji and the Palace conundrum of personality and why I'm giving every one of the Confidants (and Shiho) a mini-one because actually tackling sins and virtues and flaws just means so much to me personally.
The thing is—as much as I love the Persona 5 crew—I had the same issues that I have with Marco Diaz from Star vs The Forces of Evil (which I also have an AU for) and the fact that they don't have motivations past what the plot needs them to have and the plot needs those motivations to keep them with the Protagonist.
Ryuji needs to be passive but also fun but also loud and abrasive—him having a sense of spite or softer moments can't happen too often because the Phantom Theives need to be Good but not too good. Also I despise the handsy lovable pervert comic relief with a passion.
Only one who's ever gotten a slight pass from me is Denji but even then, he barely counts himself as a human*.
Ryuji once you remove the Protagonist has no later hopes and dreams... Hell, he's barely got a later. The teachers have given up on him, his mom is accidentally negligent and his father was abusive and his few friends aren't talking to him. What does Ryuji want to do? Why does he stay with Phantom Theives? Why's he so loud about it time and time again?
And also why don't we get to see Ann and Ryuji's friendship more??
How I plan to fix this is simple—friendly bancho boy vibes. Or the pinnacle of leap before you look; the Faith Arcana.
He's been labeled a delinquent because he's loyalty has gotten him into some pretty rough crowds with other people who don't belong or just people who take advantage of it.
He's not the Chariot Contract because discipline, commitment and willpower aren't exactly what I think of when Ryuji comes to mind. Instead I think of your ride or die, the main person who wasn't even sure that he was going to get out of the Castle alive but is ready to try and get other people to safety.
Faith is that outstretched hand in the storm and that's Ryuji. Stubbornly faithful, weathering the storms of life. He's the eternal optimist.. Of the Phantom Theives. Thing's will work out and if it doesn't, then oh, well, we'll try something else.
Now then Hope and Faith are things to work on and practice and Ryuji's needs some dusting off. Not to mention there's got to be some major adjustment between not being able to manifest your heart of hearts and suddenly having to hear all those things and thoughts you have buried.
And for Ryuji, I think it's a lot of spite and envy. The things that make you feel small and weak, the things that you try to move past—i.e, the track team.
As for motivations, I think he's a mama's boy through and through and he and Rin bond over their desire to protect and defend as much as Rin and Ann bond over their belief in doing things with your own two hands. He's getting a degree in physical health and medicine and despite the difficulties of being neurospicy in Japanese workforce/schooling, I think that he'd actually be doing surprisingly well.
Struggling because our boy is from the countryside and simple but he's still doing it.
I'd like to touch on alternative teaching methods and have the Theives band together for other things than the world ending.
Also I just really like Ryuji having that sort of sunshine charm where you can't help but want to keep him safe or gravitate towards him. I mentioned bancho-vibes which I honestly see because he seems like the type that enjoys Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and tried to dress like Jotaro Kujo. Until someone called the cops.
I giving him the same level of situational awareness but rather than retreading the same plotline of Ryuji is loud and almost gets them caught, I'm thinking of either having it be why he needs to sit out and eventually develops a Palace or having it actually affect other people. Ryuji does not strike me as an actively malicious person but rather as someone who is careless at times.
His arc is going to be about Rin regaining faith in humanity and Ryuji maintaining his optimism or at least, getting a chance to defend himself.
Ain't no mandatory forgiveness for people doing fuck shit here.
Like I actually refuse to put that in. Kamoshida is dead, Haru gets to punch someone and Ann gets to rip people apart.

New Project! DIY/Collaged Tarot Deck
Tumblr media
Over the past few weeks, I have been pulling together a group of local witches in my area to form a very casual coven! We all ended up revealing that we are very crafty, so naturally, one of the first projects we wanted to take on as a group was to make our own tarot decks! Right now we are scheduled to make around 8 cards a month, which means we should be finishing the project by the end of the year!
Materials used:
Double-sided tape
Playing card (for the base)
Matte mod podge (for the top coat)
Magazine clippings
To start off with, obviously, we have The Fool. In researching for this card, the main keywords that stood out to me was "new beginnings" and the start of a "journey". When paging through my magazines, one of the first photographs I came across was this beautiful, snowy mountain range with skiers dotting along the bottom of a slope. This image seemed perfect to me and really conveys the image of a new journey and optimism.
Next, I reviewed the Rider-Waite deck for more inspiration - I saw lots of yellows, and of course, the iconic sun. I decided to add a sun shining in the corner of this card as an ode to the original Rider-Waite deck; also representing bright optimism as the Fool begins his journey.
If you want to follow along this crafting journey with me to learn more about tarot (and probably a LOT about collaging/DIY), be sure to subscribe to my Patreon for only $2/month! I'll probably be posting updates on Patreon weekly, and updates on Tumblr around once every other month.
Please let me know if y'all give this a try! I find that this is a great way for me to connect with tarot and learn more about the cards. I've always struggled with memorizing them/reading cards without a guide, so I'm hoping that this project will help!

So watching the Barbie movie and listening to the El Diablo remix of Fly Away by Teddyloid sparked an epiphany for Ann—
She could have been Panty. Now hear me out,
just as Panty had a mini-arc of not being as much of a hedonistic bitch (for better or worse), Ann could have had that. She's spiteful and pretty, and knows that she's pretty—she just hates when other people use that to justify mistreating her.
She doesn't give a shit about the other victims aside from her and Shiho. This might just be fanon but she definitely gives me the vibes of someone who knew Ryuji, knew him well, and still couldn't do anything for him during the initial Kamoshida incident (him breaking Ryuji's knee and team). She decided against killing Kamoshida not because it'd be right or wrong necessarily but because the only way he can atone, in her eyes, is to suffer.
She has a whip, for crying out loud. That soft, frightened Ann and the sadist who only cares about who she's loyal—who her friends are—they need to co-exist. And in Canon P5, they don't. Ann likes sugar and Shiho and after that, she barely likes modeling or has a want. And that sucks.
Her costume—the perfect embodiment of what makes you feel powerful and sleek—is immediately undercut by having the boys gawk at her while she desperately tries to cover herself. And that's gross. The problem isn't the costume. It's her interaction with the costume.
I wouldn't have as much of a problem with it or really any problem with it, if we leaned into it (also if she weren't pretty much a teenage girl being dropped in the deep end of sexuality) like Juliet from Lollipop Chainsaw or Bayonetta. Those two are peak powerful-sexy and camp as all hell. And I wish that scene felt like it was more about her retaking her narrative. She's not a sexy victim—she's a pissed off girl who happens to be really attractive and sick of it.
And honestly, same. The decision to make her half-Colombian and half-Japanese is because well, I find the "desirable white hafu" boring af and because I'm honestly a lot more familiar with the fetishized attractive person. Ann looks like a curvy gyaru girl (and while I appreciate gyaru girls for what they are and do, it's still kinda weird for racial undertones and whatnot) but isn't one. She's a darker Latina-Japanese woman with curves, family and wants. That is directly at odds with how Kamoshida (patriarchy) would like to have her—a pretty, exotic and rare trophy. Her having cellulite and actually having to get up early and have a routine to look good doesn't fit that. Her at healthiest actually being fat/plus-sized. Her being a human person and actually allowing herself to be seen as human again is part of her arc in my retelling. Her having to live without being Shiho's protector and best friend, without Kamoshida, without as tight a grip on routine sounds like a fun take.
Because as much as I like Ryuji as the heart of the team, Rin and Ann are the leader and second in command here—they're the ones who butt heads the most. They're the perfectionists who have two painfully parallel ideas about justice in the beginning: it's not for me and fuck everyone (except for these very specific people who are mine). Which for Ann broadens into justice is about taking action revenge for those who can't until Futaba's Palace. They butt heads over the type of perfectionism—Ann's about optics and not giving room for anyone to say somethings wrong with their plans, the style of the Thieves while Rin's about tactics, a way in and out, knowing the patrols like the back of their hand, preparing for any mistake. They're both rigid and it's really difficult to call either of them soft in the way that someone who didn't know Haru that well could call her soft and their dynamic is one that needs to be built in a way that truly does require Kindness because both of them are traumatized and have no one they really trust to talk about it with. They're outcasts who watch the warmth of the village through the windows and staunchly refuse to burn it down because hope against hope, maybe one day, someone will let them in.
But back to the Ann and Panty comparison, Panty is a hedonistic apathetic young woman who breaks hearts and kicks ass. Ann could have been a pretty, vain, apathetic, hedonistic, heart breaking ass kicker with a whip who holds grudges and some pretty black and white thinking. Every time someone mentions Kamoshida, she's there to spit on his name. Every Palace owner is evil. Every Palace owner is irredeemable. Everyone who isn't a Phantom Thief is the problem.
Let her get excited about trendy desserts and shoes. Let her love the camera and how she looks in it. If we're going to have Catwoma-sorry, Kittywoman as a comparison make it worth it. Let there be rumors about her being a slut. Let those linger after Kamoshida. Let it be hushed. Let her classmates be envious of the untouchable, inhuman Ann Takamaki and the one mortal she allows to be graced with her presence.
And that scene where she has the breakdown after the phone call with Kamoshida early on?
Not yet. We'll go slow.
I'd have those chips in her armor show after she's voluntarily taken off her mask. Day after day, he visits her and Shiho. Day after day, he calls. Day after day, they either make progress or they don't and no one seems to give a shit about this. No one.
So. She snaps. And this is where her Arcana shines—the Lovers: communication, intimate relationships, trust and the development of personal belief systems—because the Thieves, Ryuji and Rin, catch her. Morgana is Morgana which I'll espouse upon later. They become a team in vulnerability, in trust. Because to me, at the end of the day, mutual vulnerability builds the first bridge. Small victories, small tears, larger payback.
She doesn't kill him because she needs him to confess. She needs to watch the guilt eat at him, watch him ruin his life like he tried to do to hers. (sometimes she wonders if he'd succeeded) (it's a thought that as time goes on, she's able to push more and more out of her head and out of Shiho's too) She doesn't know what that says about her. She doesn't know if she likes it.
But she doesn't hate it.
And I don't know man, isn't that what being in your 20s is sometimes—figuring out what parts of yourself you don't 100% hate and figuring out how to be a person.
TLDR: Ann Takamaki and Barbie gave me more feelings than I expected when I first looked at them when I was younger. I thought I hated them but really with Ann, I felt betrayed by the narrative and this is how I'd fix it. And just like with Barbie, it was all patriarchy and an unfair narrative.

web of wyrd: the left most number, your mask / public energy
Tumblr media
wyrd (pronounced weird) is a germanic word that is associated with fate - so this is is not just "wyrd" - it's also uncannily your fate or destiny. this seems to be the new thing, so i too want to step in because the numbers are associated to the major arcana of tarot and i do read tarot sooooo - if the shoe fits wear it!
we are going to go number by number together - we are going to learn together!
today i want to address the left most number.
Tumblr media
this is my wyrd web. so it is based on my birthdate (27.10.2000 - october 27th, 2000).
the number we are focusing on today is based on the DAY you were born.
if you were born july 4th - it would be 4. if you were born april 22nd - it was be 22. but any date after the 22nd (i.e. 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, etc) needs to be summed together (my birthday for example: 27 -> 2 + 7 = 9 (the number in my left most bubble))!
but what does this number mean?
this number represents how others see you. not necessarily how you see you, but how the public perceives you. this is your face (or mask - aka persona) that you intentionally or unintentionally present to the world! there at evolved (higher vibrations of the major arcana card or the upright) and un-evolved (lower vibrations of the major arcana card or the reversal) numbers.
so let's talk about some examples:
9 - the hermit
rider waite smith illustrated the hermit (the card that symbolizes virgo) as a wise, old man dressed in gray. he holds his walking stick (possibly alluding to the suit of wands (the symbol of fire / fire signs, passion, creativity, ambition, and action)) to his head (if it is the suit of wands than this indicates an individual with a creative, passionate mind who has used their ambition to discover more about themselves). he holds a lit lantern towards the left side of the card (the past) and faces that direction as well (indicating that knows himself well as the lantern is shining a light on his past).
evolved 9s explore / learn from their inner realm and work through their past instead of dwelling in it. these people appear as wise and self-knowing. they set boundaries with those around them in a mindful manner. they know when to take a break and recharge in a social setting as most tend to be introverts. they do a lot of soul searching as to what they are and are not comfortable with and express these things to those around them - they do the inner work or "shadow work" necessary to living a full and happy life.
un-evolved 9s may not recognize the difference between alone and lonely or even solitude and alone. they often fear being alone (they may not wish to learn who they are as an individual) and don't know how to take a moment when they need it. they snap or become to critical of those around them in these circumstances - ironically they are critical of everyone around them but haven't taken the time to critically examine themselves. they may conversely isolate from those around them despite longing for support and connections with others. they may fear getting to know who they themselves are.
20 - judgement
rider waite smith illustrated judgement (the card associated with pluto) as an angel facing the viewer (this is a confrontational, present-oriented card) from a clouded sky blowing (air motif) a trumpet as people emerge from their caskets to face the angel (their backs face the viewer meaning to show vulnerability). these nude people (natural and comfortably exposed) are freeing themselves from a previously uncomfortable, cramped situation in order to see and hear the heralding angel. these people are reaching arms open wide ready to receive the angel - this is a card associated with a spiritual awakening.
evolved 20s no longer judge themselves too severely; they are comfortable with their bodies and accepting of their previous actions, choices, and experiences. they too are ready to leave the previous confines of their past (as the nude people do in the card imagery). they welcome new experiences and the future with excitement and glee. they are on a high frequency as they recognize their higher calling. they receive frequent communication and confirm from the universe / their spirit team. they let go of the past to embrace the future.
un-evolved 20s experience the same things over and over again. they struggle to get out of loops/patterns as they struggle to learn the important lessons that life wishes them to. they judge themselves harshly and are extremely critical of the work they do. they cling to what they know though they feel trapped/oppressed in their present circumstances. they don't notice the signs they are receiving from the world around them. they fear change and growth.
22 - the fool
there is no 0 card in the wyrd web as there is in tarot, so the fool takes on the 22nd number manifestation in the web even though it is the 1st card of the major arcana. rider waite smith illustrated the fool (the card associated with uranus) as a young man wearing a boldly patterned outfit. the young man parallels the hermit as the mountain range featured in the hermit card appears in the background of the fool card and the fool carries a stick (read the description of the walking stick in the "9 - the hermit" section above). on his stick is a small bundle likely filled with his essentials to life so he is prepared to start a journey... right off the edge of the cliff. also present in the card is the sun (enthusiasm and clarity) on the right (the future), a white rose (innocence and free) held off to the right along with his bundle, and a small white dog (the dog is prancing meaning to signal him of the cliff edge thus is a symbol of intuition) at his feet. the fool faces the left thus he has to first explore what is in his past (hermit energy), before leaping into his future, where all the fortunate elements lie (the bundle (worldly possessions), the flower (innocence and freedom), the dog (intuition), and the sun (positivity and clarity).
evolved 22s are always ready to explore the world around them - be it via their physical, spiritual, mental, and/or emotional realm. they trust they are on the right path and trust in the universe to not steer them wrong as they explore. they enjoy taking risks and taking big leaps - they do not fear "obstacles" or "setbacks". these are mere lessons to learn and experiences to gain. they are in tune with their guides and listen to those with messages as they consciously make their own path and explore it mindfully.
un-evolved 22s haphazardly take risks or are too afraid to take any - without risk they gain no reward, they feel stagnant in their journey. they fear change and hesitate when step even toeing the line out of their comfort zone. they make plans but never execute them. obstacles are treated as life inconveniences. they are often too afraid to experience life or explore the world around them - they often stick to what they know and remained tied to their past.
that's all for today! the next number we will be looking at is that top most number, your higher self.

As some of you already know, I am working on a Disenchantment Tarot Deck (Rider Waite Smith based) which is almost complete (all the 78 cards).
It's not the easiest thing to do, because all the images I am using are stills and official artworks from the cartoon, so I have to find a way to fit every image with every card in a way that makes sense. And as a professional Tarot reader, I try to be faithful and loyal to the meanings and symbolisms of the cards and also my work.
One person who told me Elfo should be The Fool (and I agree, already had a Fool card for him that I left the idea behind, but why not posting 2 representations, right?!). But the reason I choose The Jester is not only because he is literally the fool, but also unlike Elfo, Jester is not appearing everytime on the deck (there are literally 2 images on the internet where he graphically looks acceptable to be part of this deck).
I still am struggling to find a great quality picture of Malfus, I want him to be part of the deck as The Hermit, it's the only major arcana I haven't done yet because of the lack of good quality images.
You can see that there are two High Priestess. The Bean one is supposed to be a joke, because that convent moment in the episode made me cry of so much laughing, one of the most iconic moments of the whole show to me! Arch-Druidess is officially the High Priestess anyways...
I also posted two versions of The Lovers. Again, even tho I love both of them I am more of a tradicionalist. I got a picture where shows King Zog very tense in between Oona and Dagmar and to me that would be the PERFECT representation of The Lovers, but the image really did not fit the frame of the card, that's why I choose a scene between Mora and Bean. Which one did you like the most?
Let me know your thoughts so far on this work. Thank you so very much for all the attention given! <3
