I think it's very interesting to see so many people in the 911 fandom adamant that the actor of Marisol should leave/be written out/fired for her transphobia and homophobia when there was so little of this energy for Ryan Guzman [Eddie's actor]'s antiBlack and generally racist bullshit.

Not interesting as in "she doesn't deserve that and he did" but interesting as in they both did but racism is such a non-issue to so many in this fandom that it barely registers.

Tim literally already said he didn't want to do an off-screen breakup for both Eddie and Buck's love interests. since Natalia couldn't come back he had to do that off-screen. Therefore the Marisol breakup is happening ON SCREEN. IN THE SHOW. that's it, that's the reason she's still around.

I get that we hate the actor but come on, didn't you see 7x05? They're literally turning the character into a joke. A plot device for Eddie's journey towards discovering his own sexuality. with Catholic guilt and everything!!! what more could you want???? We are literally getting everything we could have ever dreamed of... BE SERIOUS PLEASE

I try not to think about Edy Ganem too much but this episode puts things in perspective, especially her recent IG posts. She wraps filming 7x05 and Marisol and Eddie are still together, she's got a call back for 7x07? She could totally think her character is gonna be around for a while.

Then filming 7x07 happens. Her IG posts and story after filming (seeming upset, focusing on auditions) to me hints she might be done and that it wasn't necessarily expected. And the episode title? Ghost of a Second Chance? We know now that Eddie and Marisol are on their second chance.

If they do break up, I'm hoping that 7b or even 8a delivers the Eddie sexuality arc we might have had in 7a, because now that we know it existed in some form or fashion I will not be able to let it go. If it turns out that it was one or the other with Buck's coming out arc? That might actually break me. Buddie canon has never felt closer... or further away.

I want to talk about ace Eddie so I’m going to talk about ace Eddie! this episode was absolutely delicious and I know many many people will tell me that I’m reading too much into this and it is simply what the show said: his catholic guilt. Which is compelling enough already but stick with me.

ace Eddie is so so near and dear to my heart and I enjoy analyzing his arcs and his relationships through that lens. The fact that ABC allows characters to have these candid conversations is !!!

this episode in particular is delicious in terms of ace Eddie (I’m sorry, I’m not wording this wonderfully, it’s been a very bad pain day). He initially says to Buck:

“I got here early to avoid not having sex” and yes, the reason he gives is his catholic guilt. But I also just want to pay attention to the way he was speaking about it after revealing to Buck that he was avoiding being home. He was purposefully using vague, almost immature (in the sense of the way younger people take about sex) language and justifying himself by saying that Christopher was away, so they had time to themselves so naturally… it felt very much like this was how he was supposed to be feeling and what he was supposed to doing because his son was away because they had free time, the natural conclusion to him was that they would have sex.

he also says “Marisol likes to have it in the morning” which, granted, could simply indicate that he prefers it at other times but if we look at it through the perspective of ace!Eddie indicates that they have sex when Marisol wants to rather than when Eddie wants to (if he ever broaches the subject at all). This also lines up with the way he spoke about having sex with Shannon which primarily centered around her desires and his ability to fulfill them rather than his own wants and needs. The discussion with Bobby only further solidified this. He suggests that this is simply Eddie’s reaction to moving too quickly, indicating that there was very little that he had heard about Marisol prior to her moving in. Now, and again I recognize I may be reading too much into it, but for me the way they framed Marisol moving in by opening with them having sex, it reinforces this idea that for Eddie, sex is easy and expected and there’s a natural progression of a relationship that he’s meant to follow (mentioned in his conversation with Bobby). He’s meant to have sex, enjoy sex, ask a girl to move in with him etc.

at any point in time, he could have texted Marisol or gone back to the house and simply told her that he didn’t want to have sex with her just then. If he was seriously concerned that she would be upset or ignore him, that’s a different issue entirely. However, he has so much anxiety over sex and his own role as a man in a relationship that he ignores this idea altogether. He would rather avoid her all day than face the idea of coming home and not being able to provide sex. Sex that he doesn’t even necessarily want. I also think that’s why it’s so important to his character that his restarting with Marisol wasn’t predicated on a sexual encounter but rather on his own terms. It’s the first time that we’ve seen him take the time to say ‘maybe this isn’t necessarily something I’m ready for.’ And it’s WONDERFUL to see that.

Eddie’s relationships and his relationship to sex specifically is something that is incredibly fascinating to me because it screams amatanormativity and over compensating for something you’ve been told you should want and provide. Noted, I don’t necessarily like Eddie and Marisol and I certainly don’t like Marisol’s actress (I truly hope she leaves the series soon). However, I do like what this relationship is teaching Eddie about himself. I like that he’s slowing down and taking the time to think about what he wants rather than what’s expected of him.

I don’t want Eddie pining over Buck and Tommy at the wedding while he is with Marisol.

I want Buck to actively realise his attraction to Tommy was just that attraction.

I want him to realise his jealousy was because he felt like he was being left behind by his best friend whose attention is usually 100% on him.

I want him to tell Tommy he wants Eddie he just needed to catch up.

I want Eddie to realise he doesn’t have to be with a woman.

I want Eddie to realise he has choices and he doesn’t have to listen to that voice in his head telling him what he ‘should’ do/be.

I want Eddie to know he can have boundaries and his body is his and he gets to choose who and when he gives it to someone else.

I want Eddie to think about who he actually loves and trusts and has built an entire family with.

I want them to break up with their respective partners and then sit down and talk about it.

I want them to lay their cards on the table about how they love each other more than anyone else (besides Christopher).

I want them to cry and and feel every single bit of what they need to feel to get to a point of being able to be together without all the bullshit their minds scream at them.

I want them to build a relationship on such a solid foundation that nothing can tear them apart.

I don’t want a half assed drunken confession I want them to actively choose each other. To fight for each other.

Six years they have been building this thing between them let them go into it knowing exactly who they are and what they want.

I think if the people in Eddie's life stopped trying to force the idea of a traditional family onto him, he would actually have a healthy and happy relationship

Because first of all, his parents pressured him into marrying Shannon (I do believe, if not for Chris then they would gone back to being friends, instead of being in a relationship), and like it's obvious he loved her and being married to her, they were also apart for the majority of their marriage. Running away into the army (and enlisting for a second time), then Shannon leaving and I don't think they actually lived together for more than a 2 years. So I do think a part of this love comes from nostalgic lenses

Then the whole Ana thing and the things leading to that were such bullshit. Chris doesn't need a new maternal (or any kind of parental) figure, he has enough of a support system and found family. Also I get it, that they wanted to bring back a kinda existing character, but after the skateboard accident and Eddie's reaction to it (which justified, but like a little bit over the top), they should have just introduced a new character. Ana is like the perfect addition to his family, Chris already likes her and she's nice enough that Eddie might actually love her in time, but like we know it doesn't work out and he gets panick attack at the thought of being a family

His whole relationship with Marisol feels like a way to prove he's not lonely and it's only a response of Pepa setting him up on blind date and Buck gushing about Natalia. I think he got kinda scared, that he will actually be lonely, because Buck (who is his best friend, and they mimic each other with being in relationship) was seemingly moving on in his love life, and Chris is growing up, he doesn't need Eddie as much as he did when he was little.

But you know who he is not afraid to involve and invite into his family? Buck

He was leaving Chris with Buck for a day after a year into their relationship, was ready to trust Buck with Chris again right after the tsunami, written Buck into his will as Chris' legal guardian after 1.5 years of knowing him, Chris ran to Buck after learning Eddie is dating again and told Buck what bothers him about it, Buck was ready to help him and Chris after his breakdown

But, the most important thing is that Eddie asked Buck to talk to Chris about him dating multiple girls. All the instances where Buck acted like an actual parental figure to Chris came as a spur of a moment thing, but that was the first time Eddie asked him (with his words, giving him permission) to take up a role like that
