It’s become a habit now, a routine, almost normal for Luke to find himself outside of his dorm room, on the wrong side of the door, in the middle of the night on a weeknight. It was the third time this week (and it was only Wednesday) that Luke had been sexiled from his own dorm room by his roommate Calum. But he had to admit, Luke didn't mind being exiled nearly as much as he let on, because it meant that he got to spend time on the floor above. With Michael.

Michael tries to grumble but only manages a rumbly croak. “Look, you're fine. I'm the one who’s a bloody frog.”
“Play stupid games, win stupid prizes,” Ashton sing-songs.

“I don’t want your number no,” the CD croons, clearly unaware of whatever the hell it is that’s going on right now. “I don’t wanna give you mine and nooooooooo.”
“I didn’t think you’d put No Scrubs on it,” Luke counters, sticking his thumb in his mouth to bite at the edges of his nails.

my writing and reading preferences often hinge on believability, so what’s nice about this trope is that it’s something that happens all the time IRL!
When did you first become a fan of 5sos?
june 22, 2013 at the pnc arena in raleigh, north carolina when they opened for one direction and i literally haven’t looked back!
What do you enjoy most about writing fic?
getting to share stories that make people feel things!!! unlike generic (nonfic) writing of novel style work, there’s a somewhat guaranteed audience, which is motivating and also moving. getting to connect with people all over the world over things i love by doing something i love is such a crazy, validating feeling.

What do you like about the “friends to lovers” trope?
Friends to lovers is one of my absolute favorite tropes. I love the pining and the slow realization of feelings that causes the signature "omg I'm in love with my best friend"-panic. It's also a trope that just fits the band so perfectly because you can build off of their actual dynamics.
When did you first become a fan of 5sos?
I first became a fan in May of 2019 (you could say it started on a weekend in May). Valentine is the first song I heard and from there I just sold my soul to them piece by piece.
What do you enjoy most about writing fic?
I love writing conflicting emotions. Pining and longing and being in love but having to act normal about it until they confess. I really enjoy describing a character through another's perspective when you can tell they're just so far gone but have to try to hold back. More generally I just love exploring character dynamics and developing them throughout a story.

What do you like about the "friends to lovers" trope?
Well, at the core of every good love story is a good friendship, in my opinion. As Mindy Kaling says, you should be pals with the person you love. And I like a trope that emphasizes that. I know friendship is romance, but in a super real sense, there is no true romance without friendship, kind of like how there's no true mac and cheese without cheese. One necessitates the other. It simply doesn't exist without it.
When did you first become a fan of 5sos?
2015? That can't be right. Maybe 2014? It's been a while.
What do you enjoy most about writing fic?
Making up silly little situations to put some silly little guys in. Oh, a real answer? I love writing fiction but there are things about original fiction I struggle with that I am not expected to be good at in order to write fanfiction. (World-building, for example! I simply will not with that shit!) You know how they say every pot has a lid? If you take all of my writing strengths and weaknesses and stir 'em all together in one big pot, fanfiction is the perfect lid for them.

What do you like about the "friends to lovers" trope?
I love that it's all about the ways of loving (romantically and platonically), accepting a person prior to even being romantically involved, forging a relationship and then deciding: hey, I actually Love you in another way too.
When did you first become a fan of 5sos?
Late 2020, thanks to CALM<3
What do you enjoy most about writing fic?
Even when the process is, for me personally, slow and inconsistent in terms of progress, giving life to characters and a world that otherwise would exist only in my head is very fulfilling. Also the emotional release/rollercoaster that is writing is fun!

personally, it's my dream to fall in love with a friend and that feeling being reciprocated. i love the fact that you can be so close so you grow to know the other's favorite things, what makes them tick. sharing secrets you wouldn't tell a date because it's embarrassing. and then you fall in love? what? i love that so much.

exploring my creativity in fiction. i'm used to writing from experience, maybe a bit twisted up but still. so creating scenarios, basically always in LA, is what really makes me excited to sit down and write. i wanna live there so bad.

What do you like about the “friends to lovers” trope?
The way that friendship is already a kind of love. Like, you care deeply about this person and will always help them to fight their battles, everything they say makes you think "gosh I'm so lucky to know them". And then one day you wake up and realise you find each other hot too and it's like fate had a dark secret conspiracy to give you everything you ever dreamed of.
When did you first become a fan of 5sos?
In 2021. I came across a fic by Molly (galacticsugar) on ao3 and enjoyed it so much I thought "I should check this band out". Best decision I ever made.
What do you enjoy most about writing fic?
Much like reading others' fics, it's a way to wrap myself in the comfy, cuddly, cloying sweetness of a world where love is always requited, good people always get happy endings, and the greater the angst on the way the happier the ending they earn. If I can't live in that world… at least I can visit it from time to time.
