Random Lin Kuei Headcannons

(This is NOT based on the MK1 versions of the characters. It's more of a kind of if everyone lived version of MK9-X version of the characters.)

Again these are just headcannons. They are my own opinion.

Bi Han-

Has claustrophobia but tries really hard to hide it since he thinks the other members of the Lin Kuei will view it as a weakness. The only person that knows about it is Sareena and that’s only because she figured it out on her own, he never actually told her..

He loves his mother a lot and is the only one of the three kids (him, Kuai Liang, and Lisa) that actually remembers her.

His mother and his childhood before he joined the Lin Kuei is a sore spot for him and he almost never talks about it.

“Bi Han” was not his birth name and he knows this. He also knows Kuai Liang’s birth name but never told Kuai Liang what it was and Kuai Liang doesn’t remember his birth name.

Has a very low social battery. Can maybe go an hour or two before he starts getting annoyed or antsy when in social environments. This is another one of those things he tries his best to hide cause he thinks he’ll be mocked for it. Kuai Liang and Tomas know but never bring it up cause Bi Han will just deny it.

Do. Not. Touch. This. Man. There is a very very small group of people who can put their hands on him without getting immediately punched.

Very technophobic. To the point that this man doesn’t even own a phone. If anyone wants to talk to him they can either speak with him in person, send a letter, or if they insist on a phone call they’ll have to call Sareena or Tomas and ask to speak with him. He just doesn’t want anything to do with technology and is very open about this opinion. He’d even mock Sektor for his reliance on technology.

Kuai Liang-

While Bi Han is the more powerful of the two, Kuai Liang is the more disciplined.

He likes to read a LOT. If he’s not on a mission, training, or hanging out with Tomas, he’s reading. Especially books about science.

He’s a massive chemistry nerd. His fascination started when he was a kid and started using his ice powers more. He loved seeing how his cold power effected things around him, and it just kind of spawned off into an interest in chemical reactions.

When he was a young man he was really interested in the use of technology when fighting and working with Sektor, however after the cyber initiative he’s more like Bi Han. He’s not quite as bad as his brother but anything more advanced than a landline is a no.

Very strict about being viewed as professional and expects all his students to be on their best behavior whenever someone is visiting the Lin Kuei. Even if it’s only the Kombat Kids dropping by, everyone better damn well better behave. He has a reputation to keep up after all.

Acts annoyed with Johnny Cage but does secretly appreciate his friendship.

Has all the confidence in the world in a fight or when leading, but could not flirt to save his life. The second anything romantic comes up he just freezes (hehe) up and isn’t sure what to do. If he does come up with something it’s usually the cheesiest ice pun pick up line any man has ever said. He grew up in an environment where romance wasn’t really allowed so he has nothing to go off of, but he can always fall back on ice puns like his brother taught him.

Frost-

She is a lesbian.

Confident fighter but this woman has 0 rizz. The second a pretty girl is put in front of her, her brain just goes blank and her fight or flight kicks in.

She is a ferret person. If she could she’d have 10, but Kuai Liang only lets her have 3 at the most at one time.

Little tech nerd. Even reminds Kuai Liang of a young Sektor, which does worry him sometimes. She’s not as extreme as Sektor though and not nearly as reliant on technology to fight.

Lab Coat AU

very self indulgent au (sometimes also kinda diary dump) bcs this major stressing me out and ghouls make things better… so might as well stress out the ghouls by projecting, also kinda manifesting 🤞

the idea came from talking about ghouls with @hypnoneghoul when we’re both in class 😬 and i thought ‘nuclear scientist dew with a messy bun in lab goggles’ then @alwaysjustmina asked me about it and she wrote a little something (thank you so much 🖤) and i ran with it… and it took a 90° turn bcs it ended up being different, though the coffee shop is still there and phantom also works there, but now rain is also a scientist and everyones a scientist and some are professors, and yeah, you get it

the general idea is that they’re all scientists working in the same building, though they have different topics and are working for different degree levels, but theyre close friends, even the profs are also nice and chill (unlike mine)

on the weekends they do various things, but often get together for some down time at zenith, copias bar. oh and they also often get lunch together at terzo‘s diner or snacks at the coffee shop phantoms working at

dew and rain are pining for each other (so said the other ghouls who have a bet going on, actually theyve been secretly dating since their fifth semester, and rain is planning to propose after they’re both done with their phds but dew got there first 😂, copia knows bcs rain was drunk)

copia and aether are dating, sunshine and mountain have been on several dates and we’re just waiting for mountain to ask her out, swiss is courting phantom and phantoms also crushing on aurora…

who else hmm… i kinda wanna have zephfrit but i have no idea how to connect their storylines… and cirrus cumulus… i have too many ghouls and no idea how to connect them 😭

under the cut i put their research topics and the degree theyre working on, and also what they do on weekends, which is not gonna interest anyone but me but 🤷‍♀️

side note : these are inspired by real professors and lab supervisors in my own university, and also the building layout are also kinda based on my own, and some misc facts too… okay im basing a lot of this on my own uni 😬 let me make make my life sounds more interesting than it actually is okay, and also i need distractions

Nephelai is the setting of my speculative biology project, and a very weird planet.

The best way I can describe it is that it’s a cold venus. Its atmosphere is mostly composed of ammonia, methane, and nitrogen in copious amounts, resulting in a powerful greenhouse effect that warms the planet despite its distance from its low-heat star. The resulting cloud cover also blocks all light from reaching the surface.

Cloud formation is spurred by temperature gradients between layers of the atmosphere, which help insulate the planet and promote even more temperature difference. The intense polarization results incredibly frequent, violent storms, which happen to also be the main energy source for surface-bound life.

That’s right, life on Nephelai is electricity based! The combination of cold temperatures, reliable electricity sources, and ammonia-based physiology make this method of metabolism more efficient than typical chemical metabolism, at least for macroorganisms. Energy is gathered and exchanged through raw currents rather than molecular vectors, though organisms do still need to eat to keep their physical cells intact. The line between consumer and producer is blurred here, with many fascinating combinations of both lifestyles.

Anyway here’s a medley of surface organisms, described from left to right. Absolutely not an exhaustive list.

Figure 1: A species of tree analogue. Basically a living lightning rod. Prolific across the planet, and extremely important for all ecosystems they’re in. Owners of the largest battery organs on the planet, which they use to survive for years at a time without storms.

Figure 2: a mobile tree analogue! Part of a whole niche known as ‘stormchasers’, organisms that follow the wake of thunderstorms to harvest energy. Gigantism is common in this niche for the same reason it’s common in the deep sea. Inhabits the plains of the equator’s hurricane band.

Figure 3: Another stormchaser, this one smaller but faster. The ‘head’ is a purely sensory bulb, with the brain being inside the main body. Eats other organisms for the material aspect of its diet.

Figure 4: Mid-sized predator. Uses bioluminescent spots on its knees to hunt by sight, but is overall more of a hearing-based hunter. Their taxonomic class has no external tail-rod, and instead drains using conductive ‘fangs’ in its mouth.

Figure 5: Kyliyts. One of two sophont species. Cosmopolitan, flying pack-hunters that’re allergic to making permanent settlements. Live in inseperable groups of siblings called flocks.

Figure 6: Tipoon. The other sophont species. Rat-sized, very gregarious scavengers/ambush hunters that live in communities of high population density. In the same taxonomic class as Figure 3.

This is unrelated to fanfic, but my life is currently consumed by theatre so here are a few stage crew thoughts and stories from show week:

As it turns out, sweat can break microphones! None of us knew this until the lead guy's mic stopped working while he was on stage on opening night!

Solution to this problem: we stick his mic pack in a condom(surprisingly effective)

After this incident I thought mic problems were solved; they were not. Lead girl's mic died on stage right before her solo (picture me clutching a pair of new batteries in the wings on the verge of an anxiety attack waiting to grab her the minute she's offstage)

It turns out we just have very old, crappy mics, so I just change all the batteries every five seconds and pray it works. Today alone the battery charging station has electrocuted me twice <3

The cast have now taken to asking me if their mic is working five seconds before they step on stage(it is too late to fix anything if it's broken)

In addition to my job on mics I seem to also be designated wig hair collector?? People will hand me clumps of wig before they go on stage to the point where I could literally make my own wig from the excess

Anyways, tonight is my last show(sad times) so pray for me and my shitty mics

nico sketches i did as a warmup + 20 minute s/i sketches i did while my hands were tembling for dear life (designing a s/i for him)

hi i sketched out my s/i for him (naming them ambrose for convenience)

they go to the same university he does, & are in the same grade, they’re just 3 years younger. (they’re also in a different major. they’re an illustrator while he’s a game designer :3)

literally struggling HARD with the move from online schooling to in person schooling they’re holding on for dear life. new school AND new state (thankfully they’d emailed back & forth with him before getting his disc. so they had a friend.

btw for first meeting stuff, while their first meeting was online, they were friends for a WHILEEE before dating. HOWEVER!

amb had to fake date him for so long bc they kept getting teased :/ literally had the whole ‘omg are you single do you have a bf my friend would LOVE to date you’ so they just blurted out that they & nico were dating so they both had to go along w it (pls read ‘starting with a lie’ by liang azha bc that plot is what im stealing for this!)

anyways cue faking dating scenarios except these two secretly like each other HARD FOR REALS but literally dont wanna say it bc its so difficult to make friends as it is and they dont wanna ruin that (+ feelings are complicated so they both just brush it off to ‘not interacting w anyone for a long time so its just infatuation’) whatever

universe crossover for my other oc f/o moots but hc their friends (your guys’ ships) are SOOOOOO sick of them. doing everything in their power to be supportive & not bully them for being dense /j

they end up working together on projects, and have their own personal project theyre working on! (nico has a concept for a game, & amb does all the illustrations and concept art for it) & hc they end up together once the game is completed bc that means SO much to me oh my goodness. THE LOVE BETWEEN A GAME DESIGNER & HIS ILLUSTRATOR YOU DONT GET IT!!!!

anyways. more amb facts. they have random moles across their body. also, like nico, their joints easily dislocate. (ankles, knees, and wrist specifically) bc fluid builds up easy. a side effect of sports injuries & the HARD STOP from being athletic that was a cultural shock to them.

they also have a hard time processing things, but dont know why. they just chalk it up to the three concussions they got in the span of 1 year & a half finally catching up with them (also constantly thinks theyre having a stroke bc they sometimes can’t comprehend easy, basic concepts, words, etc…. im projecting this is just real for me).

outside of drawing their hands are so useless. muscle spasms all over the place. (their mood also swings WILDLY sometimes. y’know how i always come on here wanting my blood vessels to explode then im fine moments later? yeah theyre like that but since it mimics my irl way of expressing emotions its worse)

they’re trying their best all the time ™️ pls be nice. (also v bad at social stuff tbh. but theyre trying. :3)

btw they’d 100% be mischaracterised as a ‘low maintenance friend’. nah. they don’t text ALL day ALL the time (or even a ‘normal amount’), but the do respond as best they can & always have large burst of convos. but seriously they’re that friend you hang out and just do nothing with their social battery is very smile

they know how to play volleyball & skateboard btw :3

also fun fact abt them but also abt me: they didnt know how to ride a bike until they were 14-15 :] (also they still cant ride one bc its been years… haha, totes not projecting…)

What fandoms do you write for? Whatever I'm into at the moment? Right now it's God of War. Earlier it was Linked Universe. Before that it was Daiya no Ace. But I'm not particularly loyal, it's literally just whatever idea that manages to stick.

What are your top 5 fics by kudos? Reflection -- a classic AA Batteries -- my beloved Dawn of the Fourth -- *evil cackling* ain't no rest for the wicked -- oh my god do people still click on this Denial and Deterioration -- I SWEAR I'M STILL WORKING ON IT I ACTUALLY ADDED TO THE DOC LIKE 3 DAYS AGO

Do you respond to comments? I try to! I try to catch every comment, but if a fic is on the older side and the comment isn't super long, I sometimes don't reply. Not because I don't like the comment (i love all comments i love you all) but because if a fic is not fresh in my brain I don't have much to say

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? DO NOT READ IT, but it's the shadows we cast. I was fifteen. I'm not linking it on here. It's still on my AO3 because I'm not a coward, but I'm also not very brave, so like, don't read my high school fic, you've been warned.

What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Probably Candid? That one is SUPER fluffy, which is not normally my style, but you know, sometimes you just gotta flex your fluff muscles,

Do you get hate on fics? Eh, not really. I've gotten a few negative comments, but mostly from FFN, and I honestly don't even count those lol.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind? No. I genuinely wouldn't even know where to begin.

Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? Nah, crossovers aren't my thing.

Have you ever had a fic stolen? I have seen a fic that was very blatantly referencing one of mine, but I don't really consider that stealing.

What’s your all time favorite ship? Hmm. I read a lot of Merthur, but that's mostly because the Merlin fandom tends to be really good, and therefore there's a lot of good Merthur (although I do like Merthur a lot, super Shakespearean, only valid soulmate pairing I've ever seen).

What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? If I abandon a fic, I'm going to make an announcement. If I haven't officially abandoned it, it's still fair game. That said, Replication is like, on the lowest of low priorities.

What are your writing strengths? It comes with absorbing plot structure into your personality, but yeah, I'm a kick ass plotter. Also comedy. That also comes with the plot structure.

What are your writing weaknesses? Atmosphere/description. Worldbuilding. Also to a lesser extent, character voice -- I feel like I eventually default to everyone just sounding like me

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? Depends on context, but it's always through the lens of "how does this effect the experience for the reader?"

First fandom you wrote for? I wrote a Star Wars fanfic when I was like, 9. First fanfiction on PURPOSE was for PJO.

Favorite fic you’ve written? I think the best thing I've written so far is DotF, but my favorite is probably The Disappearance of Narumiya Mei. WHICH I'M ALSO STILL WORKING ON, life just got REALLY WEIRD and I had to take a step back from it RIP

ANTI-SHIFT COLLARS: an infographic

(NOTE: description copy-pasted from DA where i normally post my works. any context that is missing here on tumblr can be found on my DA [linked here and on pinned post] )

[as a bonus to my transforgee-related stuff, i decided i'd post this here as well, as it's a key importance to the stories that pertain to shifters. also, image best veiwed in separate tab]

because i did not wanna draw it on paper and have a super long description here. so, good'ol MSpaint was used instead, so excuse any grammar/spelling mistakes.

anyways, i felt like making an infographic on the antishift collar, since i sense i'm gonna be talking alot about them. most of the information about them is on the [above] image, but i will add some other things here:

1- antishift collars are only given out by transforgee centers/clinics, often as a prescriptions like with medication.

2-the amount of time the antishift properties stay is dependent on how long the collar was on and/or how much power the battery has.

3-certain collar types can me combined, depending on the shifter in question and their needs. there may be additional symbols/colors/serial codes on the battery itself.

4-why one would sometimes need a lock or passcode to unlock the collar depends; it could be because they have a habit of taking it off when it needs to be on, or because they have severe issues that need to be address without them shifting, or because they're a safety issue to themselves and others.

5-oftentime collars are fitted with a mechanism where it'll only leave it's lingering properties IF it is taken off when it shouldn't be (IE torn/broken). the only way to NOT activate this mechanism is just simply unlatching/unlocking the buckle (basically just taking it off normally). the reasons for this specific mechinism is obvious: it's for where the being's shifting abilities presents a danger to themselves or others, or at the very least gets in the way of a normal life.

6-antishift collars aren't always collars, as they can also be bracelets and anklets. however, collars are the most effective at their job, and thus are the most commonly seen.

7-it is a common myth that antishift collars are the same a shock collars. that isn't just untrue, though; it has been proven time and time again that shock collars do the complete opposite, and instead only stimulates/activates shifter's instinct.

8-using the collar to activate inactive shifting abilities is only ever done if the process won't cause pain or major discomfort for the wearer. because of this, it's more commonly used to induce shifting on somebody who already has their abilities.

9-unless it's one that requires a lock to open, ALL collars are breakaway collars, meaning that it'll break off if their is a significant force/pressure. this is obviously a safety measure, and of course #5 applies here.

Tarot

Viktor has been reading tarot cards ever since he was very young. As the son of a fisher woman, he picked up the art from dock workers one day, and kept on reading tarot well into his Machine Herald years. For him, tarot is the universe reaching out and guiding him. Sometimes, if he is hitting an intellectual wall, Vik will read tarot cards to see if he needs to take a break, or if he needs to think up another angle.

Tarot is his first connection with the Arcane, and his love of tarot, stubbornness that the Arcane could solve his health, and belief in Jayce's (@futureforged) work with magic is why he was willing to throw everything away so easily to support him.

The HexCore: Viktor's Desperate Search for a Cure and His Eventual Magical Augmentation

Viktor knew at an early age that he was very sick, especially since the first ten years of his life was full of constant illnesses. With his feeble limbs, deformed leg, and constant muscle pain and fatigue, he had an inkling that he was going to die at a young age.

Only a year into Jayce and his HexTech Dream, he found out that he had Stage 3 myleoma. In the years following the invention of the HexGates, he would seek to create a device that could cure him of his affliction. And hence, the HexCore, his pride and joy, was created.

After the Council Chamber Incident, where Jayce put the HexCore into his chest to keep him alive, the fact Viktor was teetering on the verge of life and death gave the HexCore just enough energy to completely transform him by embedding itself into his chest. A ripple effect occurred, and all of his organic tissue was changed, fighting off the cancer and other ailments inside of him. Despite the fact his body, save his chest and right hand and leg, was still normal flesh, it still held magical properties from the HexCore. This didn't last for long, as only a few months after being saved, Viktor would run away to Zaun and start his Glorious Evolution, being more in tune with the Shimmermetal.

The invention was something that could think and learn, using artifical intelligence and the Arcane, the runes printed on its sides. Later, when Viktor was more well-versed in the magic and the void, he would understand why the HexCore didn't save him without a sacrifice of blood: some runes were missing. Those few missing runes led to his body being augmented with Shimmer and Sky's life force, which started a chain of events: the more the HexCore thought and learned, the more of Viktor's body was changed with Shimmermetal, stopping at his head and neck, as he requested.

The HexCore also makes Viktor age slowly - if he even ages at all - with him being stopped at the age the Core was implanted into his chest. Even with his skin being made of ShimmerMetal, the HexCore can be seen through him: it will pulse with his heartbeat. When he uses magic, his eyes will briefly flash purple.

His lifespan is now extended, as the HexCore acts both as a battery and is constantly upgrading itself while inside of Viktor.

Because of its continuous growth, Vik can learn all sorts of magical concepts and apply them - he becomes a true master magician.

It also powers his entire magical system and bodily functions, feeds his spells, and whispers to him. The HexCore has an imprint of Rio's consciousness - due to Time-wonky things thanks to the Machine Herald copying her consciousness into his HexCore and it rippling through time - and that in combination with Rio's biological matter from Shimmer, it is fiercely protective of Viktor. The HexCore will think selfishly and protect Viktor above all else.

TL: DR; Viktor is made of the Arcane, and wields it in tandem.

SCIENCE AND MAGIC: electricity and the void

Viktor can wield the powers of the void and electricity. He uses his intersection of knowledge between science (electricity) and the arcane (the void). This makes him especially deadly.

He can use magic without the use of his staff, though he prefers having his staff around, as it is a powerful tool for him, and amplifies his powers, plus it is a cheap way for him to also imbue electricity into his spells.

The Void is used as his own personal pocket dimension, and he is capable of sending objects there to retrieve at a later date. He will also send allies there to protect them in rare cirumstances.

Famously, he keeps about ten V Coil towers there that he can summon to his current location, so he can trap individuals with his powers at a few movements of his staff.

Viktor can mimic Morderkaiser's frequency, undo the sigil, and place it upon his armor to lock him away, meaning the Iron Revenant can never resurface, and is thus trapped forever.

His inventions, after becoming the Machine Herald, also invoke both the Arcane and science.

Viktor can also turn himself into electricity and can use it to teleport away, often having him disappear in the blink of an eye.

Ok so let me start this off by saying one thing very clearly. Far leftists are 100% anti science. They will deny facts right in front of their faces so long as it goes against their narrative, because they only thing they are even good at doing is gaslighting. And most of the time they are not even good at that.

What do I mean? Ok, so what have I seen or heard from Leftists (IE: People that worship the fact they are on the left) are as follows. And while not a comprehensive list, it's enough.

1-"All vaccines are safe and can't harm you"

2-"There is no differences between the sexes"

3-"There are no differences between physical races/ethnicities"

4-"Cat's can be vegan"

5-"Solar and Wind are actually better for the environment than anything else"

6-"Hormone blockers don't have side effects"

7-"Cow farts are killing the planet"

8-"The US and every 'White' Country are responsible for most/all the pollution on earth"

And I could go on. But let's address these shall we?

Vaccines are not a one size fits all. They never have been. Far leftists went from "I won't ever take Trumps vaccine" to "If you don't take Biden's vaccine you deserve to never get healthcare again and or deserve to be put into a wood chipper. There are a NUMBER of Differences between the sexes. And while I could write a BOOK worth of how, I'll stick with a few things. OK so this one is one of the dumbest ones I've heard, but let me explain something simple. Between melanin and MANY other variants genetically, we ARE different. Scandinavians are often extremely tall, Koreans, Chinese, and Japanese people tend to be very small. Then there is Sickle cell disease which is ALMOST exclusive to people with darker skin, more often much darker skinned people. WE HAVE DIFFERENCES. And the reason people are often scared to talk about this is because they are afraid that if they do talk about these things that it will lead to bigotry and racism. Except by pretending that all people from all places in the world are EXACTLY the same you are in fact denying science.

I'm not even going to go deep into this. SOME ANIMALS ARE JUST CARNIVORS! Cat's are one such animal. Stop being stupid because YOU chose something for your own life.

OK so I could BOOK this one as well but let me just say a few things. Battery tech has almost not advanced at all in the past 20 years. Every step we have made has been very.....minimal. However Solar panels only last between 5-8 years more often than not, and the amount of resources they take to make needs YEARS to offset how much carbon used to make them. This not also including the destruction of entire ecosystems due to the mining for the resources in 3rd world counties, which have also managed to pollute water reservoirs. No telling the amount of kids that die in the slave labor needed to mine all of this stuff. Or the long term effects on the natives of those lands. Same with wind. Except with wind, they need petrol to work. Specifically the lubes that keep the turbines working. And they don't last very long either. And when they break, much like solar panels, they can't be recycled. And the production of those needs 8-10 years to offset what it costed to produce them. Not to also discuss the amount of land decimated to put up both of them. Specifically bad with wind turbines that tend to kill avian life at a high rate, and when put into the water or on the water, they screw with the sonar of animals in the water that use sonar. Which has sadly killed a number of whales.

Hormone blockers actually have a metric shit ton of side effects. Though I guess you can more say effects. One of which, which is actually REALLY scary for younger people is Osteoporosis. Which is REALLY rare in people under 50. As often you develop it as you age. Except people that take blockers for long enough stop developing. That's the entire point in some cases. And here is what many of you LUNATICS don't seem to get. YOUR BODY needs he hormones it produces for you to develop properly. Your body does not just "Rebound" when you stop taking them. And when you take cross sex hormones, your body does not just "start development again", It has to actively fight it's own hormone production as well as your genetics meaning that there can be many medical side effects in general that can occur. But talking just about blockers your body does not just restart. Your hormones dictate a number of things. Brain development, bone development, immune health, height and weight determinates, as well as most of all your internals. If you pause your development, your body does not just pick up where it left off. If you take blockers for 2 years, you lose 2 years or almost 2 years of development. Many doctors have actually backed up all of this. Denying this makes YOU anti science.

This one is me just taking the piss as it were. Cows live off of what ever diet they have access to. However I have heard people, in no small numbers, say that we should reduce the number of cows. Not that we should change their diets. But that we should just CULL them. Despite the argument being "What they are being fed is producing more methane than usual. So it's fun to consistently hear from leftist that we should just kill a lot of animals.

China, India, and Africa have been not only not reducing their emissions. They have actually switched to using a lot of coal. And their emissions have only spiked over the last several years. It's not even remotely close. Meanwhile the US, UK, and most other Euro nations, have greatly done a lot to reduce emissions over time. If you think "The West" is the issue when it comes to your climate alarmism, then you are SORELY mistaken.

Evangelion: You Can (Not) Marathon — (Part 3)

Neon Genesis Evangelion, “Episode 3: The Phone That Never Rings/A transfer”

Continuing my Evangelion re-watch marathon with NGE, "Episode 3: The Phone That Never Rings/A transfer"! For my thoughts on the previous episode, click the link to the post below:

With that out of the way, let's dig in!

I can’t help but be intrigued by the way Ritsuko describes the umbilical cable as being derived from their current limitations with the Evangelion technology (i.e. without the cord feeding it a continuous stream of electricity the EVA can only operate at 1 minute on its emergency built-in battery and 5 minutes in “minimal activity-gain mode”). Knowing what I know comes later in Episode 19 when Unit-01 ingests the S² Engine from the 14th Angel, Zeurel, I wonder whether or not the limited battery supply was an intentional design-flaw on both NERV and SEELE’s part in order to prevent an Evangelion from achieving a level of power equivalent to God? Or is it a bit of both since NERV’s second branch in the US later tries and fails to duplicate the S² Engine into EVA Unit-04, and SEELE later perfects the S² technology with their Mass Production Evangelions in The End of Evangelion? It just makes you wonder…

Huh… Ritsuko’s observation about Shinji returning to the EVA after his traumatic experience intially piloting it in the previous episode is very interesting and helps reveal some important elements about Shinji’s character pretty early on! Namely, the idea that Shinji “simply does what he’s told to do, and that it’s simply his way of getting through life.”

Essentially Shinji’s self-esteem is so low that he doesn’t even bother to think for or take care of himself, and instead relies solely on the wishes and commands of other people in order to get by in life. It shows that Shinji hates himself to the point that he doesn’t trust his own ability to make decisions for himself, and seeks external validation by pleasing others whether it be his father Gendo, his old sensei, or the other NERV officials like Misato and Ritsuko.

As a personal aside, this is an aspect of Shinji’s characterization that I personally can’t help but somewhat relate to since as an Autistic person who also struggles with obsessive compulsive disorder, I sometimes easily doubt my own sense of judgement, and can become overly dependent upon the advice and reassurance of friends & family in order to get by in life. Such over-reliance can become incredibly monotonous and leave you feeling empty and unfulfilled in life at times, which is effectively conveyed through Shinji’s repetition of the lines, “Position the target in the center then pull the switch,” (Spike Spencer’s dreary delivery here perfectly captures said-feelings of sense of emptiness).

Nice! Our first official reference to the "Hedgehog’s Dilemma," which is a central reoccurring thematic motif for not just Shinji, but several other characters in NGE! For those who aren't aware, the Hedgehog's Dilemma is a metaphor about the challenges of human intimacy which was originally conceived by Arthur Schopenhauer in his 1851 book Parerga and Paralipomena before it was later adopted as a psychological theory by our old pal Sigmund Freud!

In particular, this passage from Volume II, Chapter XXXI, Section 396 of Parega and Paralipomena reads: "A number of porcupines huddled together for warmth on a cold day in winter; but, as they began to prick one another with their quills, they were obliged to disperse. However the cold drove them together again, when just the same thing happened. At last, after many turns of huddling and dispersing, they discovered that they would be best off by remaining at a little distance from one another. In the same way the need of society drives the human porcupines together, only to be mutually repelled by the many prickly and disagreeable qualities of their nature. The moderate distance which they at last discover to be the only tolerable condition of intercourse, is the code of politeness and fine manners; and those who transgress it are roughly told—in the English phrase—to keep their distance. By this arrangement the mutual need of warmth is only very moderately satisfied; but then people do not get pricked. A man who has some heat in himself prefers to remain outside, where he will neither prick other people nor get pricked himself."

In essence, the Hedgehog's Dilemma argues that humans cannot experience love without simultaneously suffering pain, which consequently results in weak relationships and self-imposed isolation.

Based on Misato’s reactions during her phone conversation with Ritsuko where the latter describes the Hedgehog's Dilemma in relation to Shinji's depressive behavior, I get the impression that this is actually Misato’s first time ever hearing about the concept.

Also, when Misato states that Shinji will have to simply outgrow emotionally withdrawing himself from his peers to avoid being hurt since part of growing up is learning to interact with others whilst distancing himself from pain, it feels heavily reflective of Misato’s own life experiences of becoming a lot more outgoing and carefree in public as an adult after spending half her childhood catatonic after being traumatized by Second Impact. While Misato herself is also a victim of the Hedgehog’s Dilemma, she is approaches the conflict a lot differently as an adult in contrast to Shinji who’s still a teenager.

Also also, I love the juxtaposition of Shinji glancing at the injured Rei in the classroom just as Misato provides her voice over of, “Learning to interact with others while distancing himself from pain.”

A brilliant bit of visual storytelling and framing there on Anno’s part!

A few notes about the introduction to Shinji’s classmates Kensuke Aida, Hikari Horaki, & Toji Suzuhara:

-1) Kensuke’s voice acting is hilariously bad in the original ADV dub as he sounds way too old and nasally to be a 14-year-old kid (whilst simultaneously being overly high-pitched). And from what little I’ve seen of the Netflix re-dub, apparently Kensuke’s English voice also sucks in that version as well (I guess Kensuke suffering from crappy voice acting is simply just a rule of thumb no matter which English dub of EVA you decide watch; lol!). -2) I love the subtle foreshadowing of Hikari’s closeted romantic feelings towards Toji here as she immediately reprimands Kensuke for failing to deliver the classwork to Toji after he was absent for several days due to his younger sister being hospitalized in the first Evangelion/Angel battle. -3) I honestly don’t mind Toji’s voice acting as much as I do Kensuke’s (even though his psuedo-Brooklyn accent can be a bit obnoxious at times...). While Toji also has a fairly deep voice, at least his is more in line with the character’s general archetype of being the tough-kid/jock. Also, apparently in the otherwise inferior Netflix Redub he was voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch of Bleach and Trigun fame! That's awesome!

So… the teacher’s exposition about the Second Impact is only partially correct. While the effects of the disaster like Antarctica’s destruction, the rising ocean levels, and the destruction of half of Earth’s population are indeed all true, the idea that it was caused by a meteor is absolute bullcrap. A fake version of the events to hide the true cause of the near-apocalypse to the general public.

And the fact that this teacher bears somewhat of a resemblance to SEELE’s leader Keel Lorenz, I can’t help but feel a tad suspicious of this guy as he shares this false narrative of the event…

Also, fun piece of trivia, this still frame of the teacher is actually the main icon for the official EvaGeeks Wiki!

I love how Shinji immediately answers yes to the question of whether or not he’s the pillow of EVA Unit-01 when he sees one of his female classmates waving at him across the room (implying that she was the one who typed it), and that he can’t help but slightly enjoy all the newfound attention and validation he’s been craving from a predominantly female crowd. Definitely feels like a subtle bit of character-building in regards to Shinji’s deep-seated issues with women and sexuality that become increasingly prevalent as the series progresses.

The way Shinji responds to Toji punching him in retaliation for him accidentally injuring his sister back in Episode 2 with, “I didn’t have a choice, they made me pilot he stupid thing,” combined with Toji angrily punching Shinji again in response… I love how this both reflects Shinji’s continued self-loathing and lack of self-esteem when it comes to piloting the EVA (only seconds after slightly appreciating yet still feeling awkward over the praise he recieved from his other classmates For piloting), as well as Toji’s inital inability to truly understand how emotionally painful being burdened with the responsibility of piloting the giant mecha actually is!

The 4th Angel, Shamshel, has just appeared! According to Wikipedia, this Angel's name is a reference to, "Shamsiel (Hebrew and Aramaic: שִׁמְשִׁיאֵל Šīmšīʾēl, "God is my sun" Greek: Σεμσιήλ Semsi��l), also spelled Samsâpêêl, Shamshel, Shashiel or Shamshiel, was the 16th Watcher of the 20 leaders of the 200 fallen angels that are mentioned in the Book of Enoch. The name means "God is my sun", which is fitting since it has been said that Shamsiel taught men the signs of the sun."

I’ve gotta say… Shamshel's design is just… bizarre... in a manner that’s simultaneously fascinating and disturbing. On the one hand it has this cool manta-ray or cobra-like appearance (with some centipede-like legs) whenever it's viewed from both the front and above in regards to the shape of its head. Plus, it also has these cool electrical-whips which it utilizes as melee-weapons! But on the other hand, the shape of Shamshel's head combined with its elongated body feels intentionally suggestive, as does the design of the Angel’s mouth and core underneath its head.

I like how Shinji is already questioning his decision to return to piloting the EVA after already realizing from the previous episode that his father won’t acknowledge him (as seen in their brief non-verbal encounter in the elevator after the battle with Sachiel) as well as having been punched by Toji as a consequence for his actions while piloting! Shinji honestly doesn’t know why he’s piloting. At least on a conscious level…

Also, the fact that Shinji continues to monotonously repeat the words “Position the target in the center then pull the switch,” as he fires upon Shamshel is another nice touch, especially since he does so while wasting all of his ammo in the process. It just goes to show that aimlessly following orders without motivation or drive never pays off…

Also also, the fact that Shinji immediately panics upon realizing that the instructions he was repetitively following from Misato earlier in the episode backfire on him (he emptied his ammunition so quickly that he blinded himself to the Angel’s whip attacks with the smoke of his own gunfire) is another important bit of character development in this regard!

Also also also, the tension really increases when Shamshel not only severs EVA Unit-01's umbilical cable, but Shinji is forced to welcome Kensuke & Toji into his Entry-Plug for protection when the two idiotically abandoned Tokyo-3's civilian evacuation shelter to watch the battle in-person.

Holy crap! I honestly forgot just how badass the scene of Shinji stabbing Shamshel’s core with his progressive-knife as EVA Unit-01’s power rapidly depletes is! The animation, the soundtrack, the ticking-clock, and Spike Spencer’s voice acting of Shinji’s screams here all work in perfect synchronization to truly elevate the amount of tension in this fight scene!

At the same time however, I am rather curious as to what exactly was going on in Shinji’s head when he spontaneously decided to disobey Misato’s orders for once and actually kill the Angel head-on instead of retreating, once again stating the iconic line of, “I mustn’t run away!” Did Shinji feel that because following orders previously failed to defeat the Angel or win him the acceptance of others, he might instead gain said-acceptance by doing the exact opposite? Especially since Toji was inside the Entry-Plug right alongside him? Or was it a form of subconcious guilt for previously having hurt Toji’s sister, and wanting to do whatever he could to make amends?

And speaking of Toji, I love the look on his face after Shinji kills Shamshel, as this is the exact moment where he finally starts to develop a sense of empathy and understanding towards Shinji’s burden as an EVA pilot!

I’ve gotta say, I remember being both incredibly shocked and impressed by the level of depth Anno managed to provide Toji’s character when I first watched the series! Like… when we first saw him punch Shinji I was honestly afraid that Toji was primarily going to be relegated to the role of the generic stereotypical school bully/jock. But to witness Toji immediately begin expressing regret for previously lashing out at Shinji after witnessing just how psychologically painful piloting the EVA is for Shinji (even though he publicly tries to deny said-regret in front of Kensuke due to his gruff exterior), it conveyed a surprising level of dimension to this character IMO, actively subverting the boring archetype that I initally feared Toji would be even though he does still embody some elements of stereotypical toxic masculinity in fiction. Definite kudos on Anno’s part there!

Also, for whatever reason Misato’s voice overs for the “Next Episode” teasers are different on the Blu-Ray than they were on my original DVD copies despite Alison Kieth still being present. I’m guessing it was a change between the Perfect and Platinum editions… random but okay… though it’s only in the teaser for Episode 4 that Misato finally gives her trademark running gag of promising more fan-service (which is honestly a lie since there's hardly any legitimate fan-service in NGE, and is mostly just another showcase of Misato's overtly sexual personality). In the previous two teasers Misato instead promised “something a little extra,” which is less funny IMO)…

But yeah, overall that was NGE, "Episode 3: The Phone That Never Rings/A transfer"! I really love the insight this episode gives into Shinji’s psychology in regards to his lack of motivation and self-esteem, as well as the introduction of the Hedgehog’s Dilemma which heavily defines not only Shinji’s actions but the those of the rest of the cast! Plus, the fight with Shamshel was FREAKING epic, and the subverting of tropes with Toji’s character was another strong highlight of the episode!

Next up is Episode 4, and I’m really excited to revisit that one as it’s always been one of my personal favorite entries in the entire series!

my take on mew from only friends series as fellow virgin

Sorry the rant is long. This is my 1st time writing something like this and also English id not my 1st language so it's full of blunders 😁😁

i think people are confusing mews (over) confidence of knowing what other feels about way too seriously. I think all he is a nerd who has gather people memorised people's behavioural pattern and it's understanding. He has been a table keeper all his life. And what is a life of a table keeper lonely and boring, though we get to observe people he also get enough time to drown in boredom. His friends definitely enjoy their night life so he joins them so he does not become a bummer to them though we saw him not enjoy it a least bit .

So when in this situation Top come and show unhinged interest in hin he is swayed. Top is hot desirable though not not what mew is looking for top cannot be ignored. Mew is instantly attracted (and we have all been there attracted to someone we never planned to) also top putting on effect in building up this relationship attracts mew. He is now in love (not the true love of eternity.....none the less it's love). He is a person of desire. He loves to be desired.

Now mew and ray. We also have a friend who is infatuated by us. And we do not return their feelings . Is it cruel yes but we cannot fake feelings. But calling Mew fake friend or he doesn't care about ray is so far fetched. Mew is rays friend not his therapist. Rays drinking habit or childhood trauma should not be mews or even sands to fix. He has to work on his own. We all have a friend who is going through one or other addiction and trust me there is no helping them. They destroy your fut becouse of constant worry or aftercare.(But like any other media outlet I guess the are going to romanticize addiction here for sand and ray) they are also there to enjoy or at the very least they are not there to clean up after someone always. Ones and twice are okays but every damn fucking time gets annoying.( I wouldn't wanna hangout with them honestly couse I am not gonna have any fun at all) His friends annoyance and criticism are valid.

Also today's episode people criticizing Mew for calling Ray (his best friend) when in urgent need. Yep he cock blocked ray and sand but he did not know they were getting any action. Also comparing to 1st episode of ray getting drunk and ditched. Them remind you director af the show tweeted it out that mew went with top after Boston assured his that he will take ray home. Boston ditched ray not mew. Even if mew stayed he cannot drive aka he is useless it that situation . And he did not missed any call from Ray couse no calls were made (Rays phone battery was dead).

So my take in 3 episode is that mew is just a average smarty pants with normalish take on friends (college friendships are no fairytale bromance sorry it's same as how it's depicted in this show ). Right now he is not going scheming any thin. Just going with the flow with the equation he made regarding top. Which is not far of. But what he did not know was the variable name Boston. And have no idea he is doing it wrong

What we heard of calculating mew is the post betrayed mew who comes to know the full equation. Then he will start taking revenge and detry life of top and boston in the proces

✨️ A proper tour of my feeding tube!! ✨️

Putting it below a readmore link bc it'll be a little (read: very) long <3 It isn't graphic though!

The tube!! There's a little balloon in my tummy to hold the tube in, and a rubbery disc against my skin to help hold things in place. The numbers and lines on the tube are meant to tell me if my tube has slipped out/pushed further in, so I can adjust it as needed (or contact my doctor if it's a significant amount of movement). The tube isn't connected to the disc, and can move independently of it.

Then we have the tube itself, with its three chambers and ports:

The Gastric port, aka the G port, that leads to my stomach. I use this for meds crushed in water, as well as draining my stomach when I feel ill, because my tummy isn't very good at processing things I consume.

The Jejunal port, aka the J port, that leads to the beginning of my small intestines, is the one I use for my feedings. I have to flush it with water four times a day to prevent the thick formula from clogging it up.

Lastly, we have the Bal. port, aka the Balloon port. The Balloon port was just used to inflate the balloon, so I don't do anything with it. When it's time to replace my tube with a shiny new one, they'll snip the tube with a scissors, and the air will leak out of the balloon, allowing them to remove the tube.

Here we have the tube connected to the feed bag! It has a cute purple cap for the end, so I can keep my formula from leaking everywhere or getting contaminated while I stop my feedings for water flushes. I like to loop it and put it in my cute zebra print clip, to hold my tube up and shorten the length of tube I have to deal with.

The feed bag tube goes through a pump, then connects to the bag, all hung on my iv pole!

(Sorry for the shaky pic, I have pretty bad hand tremors from a medication side effect rn).

There's a screen to display my dose, rate, and how much I've consumed during my current feeding. I can just click the labelled button and it'll show me what I wanna see/adjust! It also explains whatever alarm might end up going off, such as 'NO FOOD' (when my feed bag runs out), or 'PUSH PAUSE TO START' (for when I pause a feeding and forget to continue it after I've finished whatever I was doing). Oh and it shows if it is actually running, along w how much battery life it has left! I plug it in each night after I've finished feeding for the day.

The screen does light up when it's plugged in, but I don't like dragging the cord all over the floor when I move around, so I just deal with the dim screen.

Then there's the feed bag (which will actually change now that I get pre-filled ones). The tube comes out the bottom, and at the top is a cap you can twist off to add more formula. Each bag (and tubing) is only used for one day, as it isn't sanitary enough to continue using it for more than 24 hours. The other style of bag I'll be getting can be used for 48 hours max.

Each bag can hold up to 1200ml of formula, but I only fill it half full and add the rest later, as I don't like when it's super heavy. The lines and numbers along the side show you roughly how much formula is in there, the key word here being Roughly. It's not always accurate.

BONUS: Here's my table! When I first got home, I was in so much pain I could barely move, so my bed was put in the living room, and I have a table with baskets of everything I might need. I've got headphones and gaming things, tissues, socks and headbands, my planner, and tooons of meds. I'm also borrowing my brother's grabber thing-- I use it to turn on the light behind me :3

BONUS 2: Here's a self-portrait I did shortly after I got my tube, expressing the struggle I've experienced while healing and adjusting to my new situation. It was a rough couple of weeks, but I made it through, and things are finally starting to look up now. I'm eager to start sharing the things I've learned, and what I'm still learning!

Chapter 21 It Runs Deep: Two days have passed since the disaster of an experiment in the Long Island woods. And some people are coping better than others. However Mikey seems to be one of the people having the worst time. So Michelangelo suggests that they go skateboarding, to clear his head. Simple enough right? Well the Sando brothers show up so clearly that wasnt gonna happen. However as the duo and a surprise ally battle the crabs at the Bronx Zoo, they come to a horrifying revelation. They hadnt gotten rid of all of the oozequitos.

Chapter 22 The Deadly Croaking: The Mikeys and friend come face to face with brand new mutants in the Bronx Zoo. Mutant poison dart frogs. The fight was going ok until Mikey froze. Then the trio were poisoned and captured. And even worse the Oozequitos escape into the city. While the rest of the group is hunting the dangerous insects, its up to Leo and Leonardo to rescue their younger brothers. However the effects of the disastrous experiment will make this borderline impossible.

Chapter 23 Super Dorky Pals For Life: Donnie and Donatello get to work on repairing the portal generator. However there was an extensive amount of damage and with no Kraang tech finding the needed supplies would be very difficult. Donatello offers that they search Repo's junkyard. A decent place to start, might find a useable car battery or some scrap metal. The duo meet up with April and go searching. However the junkyard had been reclaimed by none other than Big Mama. After a battle with Repo its revealed that she took his cat as leverage. If Repo complies his cat will remained unharmed. So the trio head to the New Nexus Hotel on a rescue mission. However Big Mama's assistant wont let take the mantis cat so easily...

Also a bonus so me and Sunset Linings can tie in round 2...Chapter 24 From Bad To Worse: Leo, Mikey, Michelangelo and Raph are racing across the city, trying to catch the Oozequitos before they have even more dangerous mutants on their hands. Things especially get bad when ten Oozequitos end up inside the Stock n Shop. Now they have to protect the people while also avoiding Stockboy's attempts to expose them to the entire world. Meanwhile Leonardo and Raphael slip out of the lair to have a much needed discussion about the incident, Splinter's death, what they're going to do once they return to their dimension, and if "plan b" is still on the table at all. However Rise Splinter, worried about the two, follows them.
