Day 1 of 100.
Today, I started working through The Odin Project. So far, I'm only 39% of the way through the foundations course, but already, it's filling in so many gaps in my self-taught knowledge. I started coding aeons ago, playing around in DOS as a kid and pulling apart webpages & templates later. I'm fairly familiar with the likes of HTML and CSS at this point, but diving into the terminal was an experience!

I can't wait to press on. I'm hoping to do at least an hour a day from now on. You lot have got to hold me to that!

If you were invited to an elite group of masters in a particular skill, what will your skill be? How many years have you put into developing something? Do you have 10,000 hours worth of time in it?
Life starts rather slow and speeds up as you go. I believe it’s vital for everyone to know and understand what their “it factor” is. I like to call it your “super power”. We all have something that truly separates us from the pack and makes use extraordinary. Also, everyone has so skill, so talent so ability to you’ve mastered after living for some time.
I want to encourage you to find out what is your:
- super power
-skill/talent
What is the thing that you have mastered over the years? If you’re younger, what would you like to grow to master? Something you could be put in the room with the best of the best and you could fit right in… Again, life speeds up as you go along.
In a world with such demands, we must be laser focus and deliberate about life. One must have clarity on their purpose and a determination to prioritize it. Otherwise, life has a way of redirecting your focus, oftentimes to the detriment of your life’s purpose.
So again I ask you: what are you an expert in? What is your superpower? I hope this has caused you to focus in on the what, where, who she and how you’ve been spending your time in your life so far. Take five minutes or so and figure out what has controlled and shaped your life. I hope it’s been you. Share in the comments what’s your superpower and your skillset.

Dec 23, 2022 workout PlyoJam.
Fifth Day straight of getting a workout in every day. Whooo! Did the replay of the December 4th Strength/Dance class with Jason. Lots of songs in there that I didn't know, which makes it more difficult, but still managed to get a good workout in and got plenty sweaty.
I did find two new songs that I really like though, "Never Gonna Not Dance Again," by Pink and "10,000 Hours" By Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber . "10,000 Hours" gives me SPUFFY vibes, which is always a plus in my book.

What is the best rate of study?
I had an epiphany while I was standing in the rain watching my son's team practice for soccer. My son was in junior high school at the time and he has been doing soccer since he was in kindergarten. I had been a teacher and language coach for around 16 years at the time but I never could settle on how much was the best amount of time to study to really achieve results. So, there I was standing in the rain watching my breath dissipate in the air in front of me wondering why the heck they had to practice every day. My mind flashed to Malcolm Gladwell's book Outliers and his theory about needing 10,000 hours to become proficient at something. That was it, not only the amount of time but the total immersion of the mind and commitment to a regular rhythm were a key to reaching the next level.
Doubtlessly the more time you dedicate to something, the more you can see improvement, but the rhythm of soccer practices suggested to me that constant and frequent repetition is also important. I thought this was the way to get the students at the company I was teaching at to remember some words for their TOEIC goals. I set up a practice sheet where every three days they had to focus on a single word. The first day, they look up the word in English (afterwards Japanese was permitted) then on the second day they had to come up with a practice sentence. If they followed this program, they would think about the word on successive days and interact, making a better chance to remember. On the third day they would get another chance and they would find some synonyms for the word. The following day was a new word and the cycle began again. The problem is that the students didn't follow the theoretical path and only studied everything on one day, before their class. The most serious students did follow it and I thought it was a good program. The beauty of it was that the students should be thinking about English everyday. They established a rhythm, even if just for 10-15 minutes. If I were stricter about it, I think we would have seen more results.
Looking through the Internet at ideas about how much to study, theories range between 20 minutes and 3 hours per day. An interesting post by Ouino (We know, get it?) language says 30 minutes of active studying and 1 hour of exposure is good. Of course they are promoting their business so it's merely a theory. If you don't subscribe to Medium, you will be trapped by the pay wall, but this post says 1-2 hours is best for rapid language acquisition.
I will say it again though, I believe that the true key lies in the daily rhythm more than the amount of study, though logically more time spent should yield more results.

Day 3 of 100
An hour and a half this morning, and I've finally tracked down the problem created by the smallest smol's button smashing. It feels good to be back on track. Sometimes, you just need to walk away for a little bit to clear your head, though. I absolutely wouldn't have been able to go through it all systematically last night when I was still fuming about it.
It was incredibly satisfying going through after and making tweaks to shift things around to make everything look good on mobile. Media queries in combination with flex and grid are amazing. I love it, and it feels like a superpower.
Lessons learnt today: make more backups, I can't listen to audiobooks while coding or learning
Things I'm grateful for today: caffeine, my fluffy fleece jacket, toasted crumpets omnomnom

Dan + Shay - Bigger Houses
So today on the MSR (Midnight Star Review), I would like to talk about the latest album from Country Music Duo Dan + Shay. The new album is titled "Bigger Houses" and was released on Friday September 15th, 2023. But before we dive into the new project, let's talk about the careers of Dan + Shay first.
Dan + Shay have released such hits like "10,000 hours" with Justin Bieber, "Glad you exist", & "From the ground up". And other hits include "Speechless", "Tequila", & "All to myself". Dan + Shay have earned number ones and even a spot on my year-end Artist of the year list in the past. But before we dive too far off track, we need to talk about the 12 track CD.
Dan + Shay's current single is called "Save me the trouble", and I believe their tour will be called "Heartbreak on the map". Some songs you should check out are "Then again", "Missing someone", & "Neon cowgirl". The title track is "Bigger houses", and the stand out singles in my opinion are "Always gonna be", & "For the both of us". Dan + Shay had a hand in co-writting 11 out of the 12 tracks. Here is the rest of the track list now.
Track list.
Breakin' up with a broken heart.
Save me the trouble.
Heartbreak on the map.
Always gonna be.
For the both of us.
Then again.
Heaven + back.
What took you so long.
Missing someone.
We should get married.
Neon cowgirl.
Bigger houses.
And that's a wrap for the track list. And on the MSR (Midnight Star Review), I would give this album a 4 out of 5 stars. I am a fan of more songs on albums. So it is a good well-rounded cd. But overall I felt like it was a good album, and if you are a fan of Dan + Shay. You would probably already got this album anyway. Thanks for taking the time to read this review. See ya all next time

Make an exercise out of the hard parts
Deliberate practice means doing hard things.
Something I learned to do as a musician was the idea of “deliberate practice.” What this meant for me—like when I was learning a concert snare drum solo—was to take individual measures or a small group of measures, and turn them into exercises. Examples: A difficult passage that had a hard dynamic transition or sudden change A complicated rhythm I needed to drill before I could play it I…
