{DigiAdv 02} (J.P.N Version) ~ 02!Koushiro[u] Involvement ~ Koushiro & 02 Chosen / {Friendly} Moments & Interactions ~ Adv Chosen; Takeru & Hikaris Character Progressions + Adventures & 02 Lore / Distortions {“Yugami”} in 02 + Koushiro Explains to 02 Chosen about Jogress Evolution + Adventure Chosen + Giving up their Crests’ Power to Evolve [to Perfect level / Ultimate forms in the case of Taichi & Yamato] (Note: “Ultimate” was changed to “Mega” in U.S. Dub.) (The stage before it was also referred to as “Ultimate” in U.S. dub; However, that stage is “Perfect”-level in the J.P.N Version, as you can hear the distinctions here.)
“In fact, it’s not like they won’t ever be able to Evolve AGAIN. We still hope they’ll be able to do it like before or someday.” - Takeru
“They became OMEGAMON, who had more than TEN TIMES their power...” “Yeah! He was so strong and cool {“kakkoi”}!” - Miyako, agreeing
“UM... {Soon} M-My mother [“Okaa-san”] is about TO...!” - 02!Koushiro, panicking, as Mrs. Izumi, his adoptive mother is about to enter the room (it is unknown if Koushiro ever told them directly about his Adoption. If he did, it’s never been shown on screen that Koushiro even discussed it; they also do not refer to it directly in any post series CD drama, {besides Koushiro’s own post-series track monologues} including 02 ones.) [However, 02 Chosen treat Koushiro & Mrs. Izumi pleasantly in this and following scenes, including by the ending of 02.]

Digi Dynamic Shipping Game
Send me two names among the following 12 and I’ll write a short analysis post about them:
Tumblr media
Taichi Yagami | Yamato Ishida | Sora Takenouchi | Koushirou Izumi | Mimi Tachikawa | Jyou Kidou | Takeru Takaishi | Hikari Yagami | Daisuke Motomiya | Miyako Inoue | Iori Hida | Ken Ichijouji | Meiko Mochizuki
Tumblr media
While Miyako is not referring to Koushirou but Ken, the screenshot was too good not to make use of it.
Whether canon provides input on them or not.
Even though Miyako is not Koushirou's direct heir in terms of their Crests, they have a lot of things in common at first glance. They're already acquainted by the time we meet Miyako for the first time, as they've been in the same computer club in elementary school. We already know that Miyako seems to be good with computers, because starts off the first episode Iori asks her to come over to fix his - and so it doesn't seem too surprising that Miyako is rather thrilled to see her "senpai", now all prim and proper in his middle school uniform, visiting her at school.
Miyako is known for fawning over boys - not just the good-looking, but also the "smart" ones. She isn't outright swooning over Koushirou through the course of the series, but is still implied to be looking up to him - which is ironic in two ways. First for all, due to their switched height difference. Second of all, in one of the dramas bridging the years between Adventure and 02, Koushirou talks about "even the girl(s) in my computer club are taller than me, but I'm doing my best", implying that there might be a particular girl he wants to "catch up to". Whether in terms of height or in other ways stays ambiguous...
Overall, they're both the respective computer experts of their groups and Koushirou is seen guiding and encouraging Miyako a few times - but also has a hard time keeping her overly-enthusiastic nature in check sometimes. They have very different energy levels - and despite fulfilling the roles of strategists in their groups respectively to some degree, they also have very different "work ethics". Similarly to Mimi, Miyako's judgement is often emotion-based, so she may not always check all potential outcomes. Additionally, she doesn't particularly enjoy the "workload" that being a Chosen Child brings with it, she doesn't really find it fun - whereas for Koushirou, the "fun" and also the frustration only starts when he's buried in his work.
Hence why, a sneaky little running gag about them ever since DSB seems to be that Miyako is causing Koushirou (extra) work - or that she tries to pass on troublesome tasks to him (particularly in Kizuna). Regardless of that, him entrusting her to take over the Chosen Children network in his absence (as seen in The Beginning) still speaks volumes on how much he believes in her. (And in some way, it may also be a sneaky little payback on his behalf, since she is still moping about having to deal with that responsibility.)
Unfortunately, ever since the middle of 02, we haven't seen them interacting directly with each other anymore.
Tl;dr: They may not have the closest bond, visibly speaking, but there is quite a foundation of similarities, mutual trust (and admiration) to work with.
Whether I think why and how they’d work.
If it wasn't for the fact that both Miyako and Koushirou have people they visibly focus on more through the course of the series, drifting away from each other more and more, seeing these two as romantically compatible may be an easy conclusion to come to. It seems like a cliché at first, but pairing off the short, more coordinative computer nerd with the tall, outgoing computer nerd does have its appeal. They have a complementary theme going on that could be interesting to watch develop further. First of all, as pointed out, there is a foundation of mutual admiration going on between them - and the more they'd get to know each other, the less they might idealize each other and reveal more of their actual selves. Getting more comfortable - and maybe more "mopey", bickering and gossiping over the rest of the Chosen Childen crew. They do have to deal with some thick-headed friends (they both love very dearly) after all...
Miyako is already showing signs of that by "comfortably passing on her workload" onto her senpai - but they might actually be brilliant if they strategized together for once.
The question is if they'd feel emotional and romantic attraction to each other too; while I can see Miyako's tastes varying a lot (Ken, Hikari, Mimi, Michael...), Koushirou does have a history of getting along well with more extroverted ones (Taichi, Mimi) once the ice is broken. In sum, they both have quite a fondness for the Yagami siblings - and Mimi -, so that might be quite a common ground to bond over.
Swooning over technology-related topics, going to fairs together - and complementing each other in more ways than one. Miyako may help Koushirou to feel more comfortable getting experimental with his wardrobe, whereas Koushirou may be able to help Miyako to ground herself a little better. They might have issues prioritizing similarly since their approach systems are so different - and as said, we haven't seen them talk in a while -, but once they can overcome that, they might be unstoppable. They both need to have a healthier, more equal work-life-balance though...
Whether I’d prefer them as platonic or romantic ship.
In the end, their energy levels and priorities might be too different to give each other what they really need - especially because they obviously still have to deal with a long-distance relationship too, with him being more grounded in his home area, while she's more of a jet-setter. And unlike Mimi, Miyako doesn't seem to have much of an interpersonal relationship with Koushirou by the time of The Beginning. So, instead of driving each other insane, I prefer them to stay platonic and have them focus more on the people mentioned above. Also, Mimi may adore the attention here anyway, heh.

I know you're a major Daisuke/Wallace shipper, but may I ask which other ships with Daisuke you like too, if any? (^・ω・^ )
(in my case i multiship him with a ton of characters... Lately more into TakeDai thanks to Shiha lol)
Ahhh, sorry it took so long for me to answer this!!
Oh, Ni. NI. Do you really want to open up the floodgates of shipping with me?? (bless you)
So, I developed the habit of just not talking about Digimon ships on the Internet many years ago, despite it being the primary thing that was fueling my creative output for a significant period of time (like… 2007-2014, probably??). But yeah, for most of my time on Tumblr, there was no way I was gonna talk directly about Digimon ships, because I’m always scared about the potential backlash such posts may receive (trying to get over that, though!). A few ships have breached brain-containment: Wallsuke and Taijyou, obviously, Taishiro and Nishihime maybe less-obviously (these days). But I feel more comfortable talking about those since they’re (mostly) rarepairs, the haters are minimal/nonexistent, fans of those pairs are chill and awesome, and I guess they just feel “safer” than some of the rest of the Adventure/02/tri/Kizuna shipping minefield XD
I would LOVE to make a chart like the one @reliablejoukido did showing my OTP thru NOTP feelings though! Back in 2012 I know I made a numerical matrix-type thingy for my preferences, but I never published it anywhere and I’m guessing they’ve changed a bit ^^; If I ever found time to make my own template in this day and age, I’d do it, but alas, time makes fools of us all! 🥲
All that is to say, I’m also a multishipper, and I absolutely have other Daisuke ships!! I have ended up on kind of a personal crusade to put more Wallsuke out in the world these past few years, which is why it kind of accidentally ended up being my primary Daisuke ship (oops). It doesn’t mean all those other ships are gone and forgotten, though!
I’m generally using REALLY OLD American English Fandom ship names in this post, only because that’s how I refer to them in my own head. Please don’t think too hard about the spelling/order/capitalization/punctuation of them, because I’m not! I assure you these designations don’t mean anything in this context other than “the relationship between these characters in some platonic or romantic way, explanation to follow.” TL;DR for everyone reading this: don’t be rude about shipping on this post, and don’t nitpick my terminology, please! I’m old, and so, so tired of fandom drama.
And now, without further ado, and in no particular order… DAISUKE SHIPS! ᕕ(ᐛ) ᕗ
Daiyako (Miyako/Daisuke)
I love them as friends hanging out or casually dating. They’re so!!! Well, they’re pretty similar in how strong their convictions are and how open they are about their feelings, which means they agree on a lot of things but also have the potential to clash a lot, which is a dynamic I REALLY enjoy for them. In a romantic scenario, I can definitely see them as going from arguing about something inconsequential to making out in about 3 seconds flat (maybe with a side of “how did we end up here??” ehehehe). IDK, they both give off disaster bisexual vibes to me, and I’m 100% here for that!
Daiken (Ken/Daisuke)
Really great, obviously, either romantic or platonic. They were Jogress partners (cue chorus of “oh my god, they were Jogress partners…”). I actually um. Don’t have a lot to say about this ship, but I do enjoy seeing it on my dash! Daisuke and Ken’s Christmas Carol and the entirety of Revenge of Diaboromon are all-time classics in my mind and I do secretly like one-sided Kaiser/Daisuke or mutual Kaiser/Daisuke Kaiser… shhhh
Daikari (Hikari/Daisuke)
Like, honestly yes. Daisuke, I am rooting for you! I mostly enjoy them as a friendship or in a “falling in love once they grow up and mellow out a bit” context. This is also how I feel about Junpei/Izumi from Frontier, by-the-by. Both pairs give off similar vibes (to me), but I’m more likely to gravitate to thinking about Junzumi because I just. Junpei does NOT get enough love, respect, or attention in general, and I would LOVE to see more portrayals of fat-positive romance for him, specifically.
Daikeru (Takeru/Daisuke)
So, I’ll admit I have a really hard time writing Takeru, which means I don’t do a very good job of imagining him in Situations(tm), but I have read/seen a fair bit of this pair romantically and I like it, I just also don’t have a lot to say about it (I’m sensing a theme!). Once again though, I will happily read what others put out there. Please, fic writers, help me understand how Takeru thinks! He’s such a mystery to me.
Daichi (Taichi/Daisuke)
The admiration Daisuke shows his senpai in canon is very endearing, even if it can seem a bit lopsided (though maybe, by the time Revenge of Dioboromon concludes, the admiration IS quite mutual??). I do like thinking about them as a mentor/mentee pair though, or equals/brothers-in-arms, learning from each other as they compare notes on leadership and decisionmaking.
Daimi (Mimi/Daisuke)
I loooooove their friendship!! IDK, between the NY segment of the World Tour Arc and the Door Into Summer audio drama, it’s there, right? Anyway, I still say these two are the Treat Yo’ Self squad for the Adventure kids, and I love picturing that dynamic for them.
I think me answering this ask is a bit of a stealth request for (short) fic recs that feature these relationships, lmao. I used to casually browse fanfiction a lot more than I do now, I guess I’m too picky or something (plus I have a HUGE backlog of mutuals’ fanfics to read, augh sorry!). And I didn’t mention it, but romantic thruples are good too! I would be interested in reading… oh, I don’t know, pretty much any combination of the older 02 characters in a polyamory situation (Dai/Ken/Miyako, Hikari/Takeru/Dai, Ken/Dai/Takeru, Dai/Miya/Wallace, etc).
So yeah. Shipping!! I love it. Does this mean the floodgates are finally open? IDK, but you could try sending me another Digimon character to see if I’d talk about the ship(s) I have for them!

Ok so, someone asked on an artist’s art if Daisuke counts as tamer and i decided to gently answer that.
I think this should be common sense but if there’s people confused regarding the term “Tamer” and if it applies to characters with titles like “Chosen Child/Digidestined” (Adv-02-Frontier-Appmon), “General” (XW) or “Hunter” (XW-YH) ... Well, my answer is...
YES. it does.
The term comes from Bandai’s Digimon lore (AKA “Null lore” or “Bandai lore”) which is the term to refer to a human with a digimon. Y’know, like how Pokemon (franchise) has the “Trainer” term to refer to people with a pokemon.
So, no matter what the anime/manga/game series use to refer to their main cast of humans, they’re all under the “Tamer” description.
Also, the term “Tamer” had been used in 02 as well -- in Daisuke & V-mon’s duet “2-TOP” in which its chorus is:
We’re the invincible 2-top, you know So leave it to us We get in fights, but we’ll still get it done We’re tomorrow’s 2-top, you know Let’s scatter them all ’round We’ll be the ones to show you The power of a Digital Tamer
TL by Kazari → https://digi-lab.blog/digimon-adventure-02-best-partner-character-song-2-top-daisuke-and-v-mon/
In which Daisuke refers to himself by “Digital Tamer”, which is something odd to those who are too used to Adv/02′s Chosen Child term being used from time-to-time through the Adv franchise.
But yes, other material also refer to him (and others) by “Tamer” in certain All-Series (or All-Media) material -- Such like the newest TCG “Digimon Card Game” (DigiCa), in which the cards for any human character within the franchise are labeled as “Tamer Cards”. Yes, this also includes Adv’99/reboot, Frontier and XW characters as well.  Or like the previous card game, which had a category called “Tamer”.
HOWEVER, in another material, the late “Super Digica Taisen” card game, had another term along the lines of XW mechanics and terms -- General. (Note: this term also applies to Taichi, Yamato, Sora, 02 Hikari, Takato, Takuya, Masaru, Tohma and Yoshino -- characters featured in it alongside Daisuke and the XW characters Taiki, Kiriha, Nene and Yuu)
I hope this helps to clarify why it’s safe to claim Daisuke is a Tamer (or any other character from a series who does not use this term) .
(Or General if you like XW that much like me hehe~~)

if you finished your 02 rewatch, how was it this go around! How do you feel :)
okay so this is a very loaded question. I think my feelings can be split into two parts, the Kaiser arc and post-Kaiser arc.
Kaiser arc - I really enjoyed it. I think Ken is possibly one of the best villains created in any media I've consumed. Digimon has always enjoyed playing with the duality of the Chosen's crest (i.e. courage/cowardice with Taichi, friendship/solitude with Yamato, light/dark with Hikari), and they really really leaned into it with Ken's kindness crest and crafted an interesting narrative behind it. The episode with Ken/Osamu is so quintessentially Digimon because at the end, we see that despite Ken losing his kindness in the most escalated scenario imagined (he became a goddamn ruthless dictator), he still retains his kindness and it still defines him. I think as an adult, I appreciate this so much more. How many times have we veered off our path and made mistakes in the processes of growing up? How many of us are still making mistakes and wishing for second chances? It's comforting to know that it's all part of being human, and forgiveness is possible. We just have to learn from our mistakes and not only reconcile with the people in our lives, but also reconcile with ourselves for being...well...human. And yes, I think having the Chosen in Odaiba living their lives gave us more slice of life scenes, which made us love these characters even more. The only thing I would change is more of the older Chosen because I grew so attached to them in OG Adventure, it was sad not seeing them as much
Post-Kaiser arc - was where they really lost me. There were times where I got so frustrated that I went on Tumblr and made raw emotional rants (which I try not to do) and screamed about how angry I was at the muddled plot and lazy writing. At times, I was like...am I still watching the same series??? There were plot points and story beats that were never picked up after the Kaiser arc, characters weren't acting like themselves, relationships were ignored for the sake of introducing more Digimon to sell more toys. To me, it felt like studio interference. Remember when Warner Bros took Justice League and re-edited until it was a completely different movie, and they axed out Cyborg's development and shoehorned plot points and forced jokes? That's what it felt like to me with the second half of 02. I think maybe somewhere out there, there was a (Taylor's version) of 02 that would have flown better with the first half of 02, that made a lot more sense and probably resolved the Dark Ocean arc and not had Shakkoumon, but maybe Toei didn't like it because it didn't align with their business model and forced the writers and redo the second half?
Anyways, that's just my tinfoil hat theory.
tl;dr Kaiser arc was really good in 02 and the second half just wasn't my cup of tea
Thanks for listening to my rant :) I'm only critical because I love Digimon and I want the best for it.

I can’t remember if you’ve touched on this before, but do you think there’s any reason to Ken having a crest like the original Adventure 8? It always stuck out to me that he had one despite not being part of the original group.
Honestly, I can’t really come to any solid conclusions about it either, I’m afraid!
The best I can venture is that the process of selecting Chosen Children isn’t as formalized as it seems on the surface. For instance, Homeostasis and the Agents didn’t necessarily choose all of the Chosen Children -- Two-and-a-Half Year Break clarifies that they don’t have complete awareness or control of Chosen Children coming in from different countries, and in 02 episode 37, Qinglongmon (and, by proxy, the other Holy Beasts) claims credit for choosing Daisuke, Miyako, and Iori and partnering them through a very different method. (The Agents prepared eggs with their human partners’ data input into them, whereas the Holy Beasts found ancient Digimon species and sealed them under the Digimentals.) So it’s a very messy process, especially since everything from the Digital World is in quite a chaotic state of “what is this whole human world thing anyway?” The Adventure novels explain that there are some higher designs even beyond Homeostasis (who, despite being a rather powerful entity, is still “merely” a security system and not particularly omnipotent), and 02 episode 22 also has Takeru and Hikari allude to the idea that the Digital World might have a sort of will of its own, especially when 02 episode 50 establishes that unconscious thoughts also influence it. So that probably lends to the degree of haphazard-ness going on here.
Considering that Taichi and Hikari, who were the most significant factors in the Greymon and Parrotmon incident, still didn’t become established as Chosen until 1999 (with eight other people getting dibs even before them), it’s possible that the process of picking kids was actually a pretty haphazard process for a while, even before and after 1999. After all, as much as the Hikarigaoka incident was what directly made Homeostasis realize “hey, contact with humans makes Digimon evolve!”, it was later established that any kind of Digimon contact could get you with a Digimon partner -- and, conversely, not everyone who witnessed the Hikarigaoka incident ended up with a partner by 1999. It’s also important to realize that the incident depicted with the Agents in Adventure episode 45, in which Gennai emerged as the only surviving Agent and fled with the eight eggs (and dropped one), does a lot to explain why the Adventure kids were such a seemingly isolated case -- it’s possible that Homeostasis and the Agents were preparing a much larger number, but Gennai was forced to flee with only what was available in the nearest container.
The incident that led to Ken becoming a Chosen depends on what franchise material you follow -- some Japanese fans have taken the novel mention to suggest he might have been another Hikarigaoka witness, Tag Tamers errs on the side of having Ken witness the Diablomon incident in 2000 (similar to Miyako), and 02 episode 33 has Ken state (through some very foggy memories) that he remembers something from August 2000. In the case of the latter two (and especially in the case of the third, which we know nothing about the relevant situation), it’s possible Homeostasis and the Agents (now populated by Gennai and his copies) continued the process of analyzing humans and their traits even after 1999 and chose him accordingly -- the fact that there were 16 Chosen by 1999, but only eight of them were involved in Adventure’s events, meant that it was clear by that point that the Apocalymon-related events weren’t the only reason to be picking Chosen, and in fact Two-and-a-Half Year Break postulates that a Chosen could be picked for any reason relevant to helping protect the Digital World. So, tl;dr: there’s some leeway for Ken to have been chosen via a similar method to the Adventure eight (analyzing his potential for a strong personality trait) even if he wasn’t necessarily meant to be involved in the same crisis, only for things to go sour when he became the Kaiser and for the Holy Beasts to have to intervene by calling in the other 02 kids to help.

What are some characters you wished interacted more in Adventure/02? I always wanted to see more Joe/taichi (because wow they both have some shit regarding responsibility) and sora/koushiro! Also in 02 I wanted more sibling moments between the Yagami and Ishida/Takeshi siblings :’)
Immediately Sora/Kou and Joe/Taichi jumped into my head before I even finished reading so like same
Your icon is super cute btw!!
Sorry if all of this is a mess apparently if you give me a platform I just spout nonsense about digimon for days lmaoo
TL;DR: Sora/Kou, Joe/Taichi, Mimi/Yamato, the siblings but with maybe some closure to the Yagamis on some level if that makes sense at all
I feel like Sora and Koushirou were the two characters who believed in Taichi the most and really stuck by him, and supposedly knew each other before the digital world, but it’s honestly hard to recall any scenes where they acted incredibly close to each other? I know she defended him when Taichi was teasing Koushirou and trying to whack his computer and they also shared their opinions on Taichi during the Skullgreymon issue. There might be some scenes, but I’m honestly blanking. Yet I can think of specific examples for Taichi and Koushirou and Taichi and Sora off the top of my head (the gate episode for the former and Taichi saving Sora from nanomon). So maybe the series didn’t mean for them to be very close friends (I think there’s a chart and they aren’t shown with arrows between each other), but I always felt like they would mesh well together even if their main reason was just to bond over Taichi. But I think Sora has shown and would be open to just listening to Koushirou and encouraging him and I think Sora is mellow enough for Koushirou to be comfortable around. I actually kind of wish Sora and Koushirou had gone together in Adventure to look for Taichi because it seemed important to both of them, though I get narratively why they wanted everyone to split up. I kind of wish there was just more Sora, Taichi, and Koushirou being tight-knit overall and something more of an overt trio, since again they were the one’s who already knew each other more closely iirc.
I agree on the Joe and Taichi bit, too. I think there could have maybe been a few more instances where Taichi, well, relied on him and the two kind of commiserated about everything. Joe clearly had a lot of worry for the team and was willing to like risk his own life for Takeru and stay beside Mimi a few times because as her counselor he felt responsible and Taichi had a lot of baggage trying to do right by everyone all the time and wanting to be The Very Best and it felt like sometimes he could kind of feel the heaviness of it especially when Hikari came in; it just felt like they should have a late night therapy session together and there could have been some times when Taichi turned to Joe for some advice. If there was more than once I don’t really remember it right now? I know Taichi had a support pillar in Koushirou and Sora and Yamato at some point, but I honestly think it would have been nice to sprinkle in more of Joe there, and maybe have Joe even gain more confidence in his role in the team to just put his hand on Taichi’s shoulders and say, “Take a break,” but instead it always felt like he micro helped, which I guess was big, but idk Taichi should have his mom bake Joe a cake just to say he’s swell. But I also think it would be nice if Taichi could be a pillar back in kind. I don’t really remember if anyone was specifically there to support Joe back when I think about it except maybe Sora when she helped at the diner arc?? I also think this would have been nicer to explore in 02 and have Joe help herd some of the new youngsters more, but it kind of felt like by Our War Game Joe was a little more… not around? Was always kind of weird to me that the “reliable” one was never around. I know his crest in some iterations is honesty or sincerity, so maybe that’s why haha, but he did always come off as trying to be reliable, so I always fall back on that.
Also Mimi and Yamato would have been interesting to see…. interact at all?? I think in the novels he makes her cry at one point iirc and there was the scene at the graves of the fallen digimon, but I can’t recall any other impactful scenes where they straight on interact?? I feel like the scene where Sora breaks down and Yamato is pretty understanding could have also translated into some scenes with Mimi, like he could go from being annoyed by her and agitated to accepting her strengths and maybe through her find that being more emotional isn’t always a weakness, idk. I also remember Yamato once grilled a fish and so I always thought he’d end up being the cook of the group down the line so when it was Mimi in the epilogue I would kind of imagine her having him on her show for a segment, like cooking in rough conditions or something and talk about the food he eats in space idk it was a weird thing that stuck with me as a kid and it’s hard to kind of forget…
Overall with 02 I really wish there was just more of the original cast and they expanded their relationships from 01. Maybe not get rid of the new 02 cast members because I do really love them, but just integrate the original digidestined in more. I get that it’s hard to balance a large cast, though, so I get why they didn’t. I really feel like Sora, Joe, and Mimi just got forgotten about in the full narrative, though. I also would have still liked more relationship building between like the siblings as you said as well. Family was a pretty integral part of the original series in many ways and while they did seem to kind of bring it back in the ending iirc, there was a HUGE emphasis on the sibling dynamics in 01 I felt was kind of dropped by 02. Like it was even written in a prophecy?? I will admit my memory of 02 is fuzzy and due for a rewatch but I recall Hikari getting something of a developing episode re: her attachment to Taichi or some comparison she was making towards him about herself that I don’t remember, but I’m pretty sure he like… had no part in it really? I think even the dub just was like, “Let’s not even write in that issue.” I could be wrong on that, though. It just felt like Taichi was more distant than he had been at the end of 01 and maybe that’s just age and he grew up, but I still feel like it needed a resolution and he could have either had residual fears or at least have a “letting go” episode maybe so they could both grow together or something for the audience to bare. I felt like if anything Taichi and Hikari’s arc should have ended with him trusting her more and I guess he kind of does since he leaves the fighting to the new kids on the block but it was more like… he gave the responsibility to Daisuke (not a bad choice, this is nothing about Daisuke ofc). It just would have been more full circle imho if he maybe gave Hikari the goggles or something— like she didn’t have to be the leader I guess but it would have been kind of symbolic of him seeing her as strong finally and acknowledging her, you know? That’s probably a different road entirely haha Hikari and Taichi just had a really sweet bond in 01 so I remember it being a little jarring when I watched 02. I can’t remember much about Takeru and Yamato together either so :(
I think they balanced a lot of relationships and backstories and a huge complicated plot pretty well in general just overall and they made the characters so goood but I guess that’s on my essay on some of the things I would change re: their relationships i’msosorry

Q. What is your morning and evening skin care routine?
I almost don't do anything...(Laugh) I do apply lotion, though.
Voice 01
What is Dreamcatcher's unique charm?
JIU: "Dreamcatcher" is a name that was chosen to give people listening to our songs the sense that they're "in a good dream". So members were each assigned different nightmare concepts since our debut. That concept is reflected in the story of our music videos and in our album jackets!
Voice 02
Is there a point that you'd like us to pay attention to in "Breaking Out, the lead track of your 1st album, released in September?
Siyeon: The lyrics towards the end of the track goes "Bye bye to the nightmare now". To us, this album is "the beginning of the end". We've promoted under the nightmare concept until now, and this promotion closes that out. So I feel like those lyrics are the focal point of the song.
Voice 03
Was there a story you wanted to share with us about filming the "Breaking Out" MV?
Yoohyeon: There was a scene where Handong and I had to act while gazing at each other. We really struggled to not laugh. (Laugh) Still, we managed to pull it off in the end, so that was a relief.
Sua: I had an individual shoot where I had to be on a flaming swing. I was really surprised when real sparks fell from above. I also had really high heeled shoes on, so I couldn't jump off if something happened. The staff kept saying "don't raise your face" as I filmed the scene.
JIU: A big fly kept bothering me while I was trying to act, which was bothersome... We were filming at a studio deep in the mountains, and there were a ton of bugs.(cry)
Voice 04
The showcase in September was also a big hit. You've already held multiple shows in Japan now. Compared to your first time in Japan, has something changed?
Siyeon: Every time we hold promotions for songs or concerts, the number of InSomnias who come to see us seem to increase. Whenever I notice that, I feel really happy, and feel like I'll be able to work even harder.
Dami: At first, I was really hung up on memorizing Japanese. Now, I'm able to focus more on presenting a perfect performance.
Voice 05
Europe, South America, you're holding shows all over the world. Is there something you found memorable about the cultural differences, or the fans' reactions?
Gahyeon: In Europe and South America, the passion is palpable even before the concert starts. Before concerts, our songs play within the venue. Our fans will sing along to that, or dance to it. Then, when the concert starts, they cheer for us even more energetically. I thought they were incredibly passionate.
Voice 06
Tell us something unexpected about the members, that the fans wouldn't know!
Handong: I shared a hotel room with Yoohyeon during our Japanese schedules once. I looked at her suitcase, and it was almost empty. It seemed like she mistook the length of our stay. She didn't have any clothes to wear, so during our stay in Japan, she was making do with our Live merch T-shirts and things like that. (Laugh)
A great gift from Dreamcatcher♥

On tri and friendship
So I'm stuck in an airport terminal for the next hour so a fantastic use of my time is to rant about Tri. and its treatment of the 02 kids and by extension its effect on the 01 kids because boy does tri paint an unflattering picture. On mobile so be prepared for long.
Just to get this out the way yes I am still very salty about this and that's because it is important. A very consistent reoccuring point is how friendly and accepting the 01 kids are to Meiko because she's a Chosen like them and that bond means something. Unless your names are Daisuke Miyako Ken or Iori. The movie's constant harping on the deep bond between Meiko and the 01 cast after a few weeks is the very thing that makes their indifference to the well being of the 02 kids stand out so harshly.
We are supppsed to care about Meiko because the cast we know cares about Meiko. Of course that leads to the elephant in the room: the 01 kids don't care about the 02 kids so the audience shouldn't either, right? Well, no because Meiko is a new central character who has yet to prove themselves whereas the 02 kids are established characters who were in peril in scene 1 of movie 1. You would then expect this to be a big mystery with a lot of focus on it, except no the 01 kids don't seem to notice or care about their disappeance at all. Not even after seemingly killing Palidramon aka Daisuke and Ken's partner digimon making the kids' actions in part 5 make no sense. Killing KD's digimon is fine and not worthy of comment discussion or reflection but killing Meicoomon is a big NO because ~friendship~....and then they do it in part 6 anyway.
Now let's go over who the 02 kids are to the 01 kids compared to Meiko. Meiko is a new transfer student with a digimon so she's in the bff club by default...and that's really it. The 01 kida have about 2 months of Meiko during whichtime theu are also dealing with the digimon virus stored in Meicoomon by Yggdrisil and its agent.
Daisuke is Hikari's childhood friend of sorts largely through his connection to Taichi whom serves as Dai's mentor and psedo older brother. After a year he garnered the respect of fellow Friendship holder Yamato and a proper friendship with his little brother Takeru whom Daisuke was often jealous of. He worked closely alongside Koushiro for that year span of time at least along with the other 02 kids.
Iori and Miyako both live in the same building as Takeru and serve as his and Hikari's Jogress partners; the people who best understand and mirror them. Koushiro serves as mentor to both in Miyako's role as computer geek and Iori in his role as his successor to Knowledge. Mimi repeatedly made time for her successor of purity Miyako on her rare returns to Japan and Joe looked after Iori with the same care as any of his other younger friends while treating him as a mature person cognizant of his behavior.
Ken mostly had bad direct ties to the 01 cast being the former Kaiser who ravaged the digital world and enslaved their digimon. This at least they remember. For about 3 seconds then the woman working with the shady government organization shows up with his digivice post digi murder to precisely 0 fanfare.
So yeah a full year's worth of adventure and the bond of digimon to Meiko's couple of months but the movie is all about Meiko and the growth of the 01 kids. When all the partners were being infected and turning violent they didn't contact the 02 kids. When the reboot happened and they would have lost their partners? No. When the 01 kids found a way back to the digital world to get their partners back was there any mention of passing this along through the SGA to tje 02 kids? No. Takeru had time to get on the BBS but couldn't go upstairs to tell his platonic lifemate.
The movie has no focus to give to the 02 kids and thus neither do the 01 kids. Oh sure there's plenty of offscreen handwaves of the 01 kids giving a shit but they're all offscreen so they didn't really happen. Yamato says they tried to get in contact and were worried but we never see it. We're told someone took the 02 kids to the hospital following their couple months in cyro sleep but we don't need to see that. We hear in the epilogue that the 02 kids are still there after 3 months but we gotta call Meiko and Force That Ship so just take our word for it. The problem with all this is that in a well-structured narrative character focus would make movie focus; if the 01 kids actually cared then so would the movie.
So to get back to the original point of all this its impossible to take this movie seriously because it's all about the deep significant bond between the choosen. Well about the Chosen right in front of the 01 kids eyes anyway.
Tl;dr the 01 cast are a bunch of fairweather friends and a pack of fake ass bitches making the emotional bond between Meiko and the others feel even more forced.

Koroushi and Hikari
Assuming you meant Koushirou, I will write about Koukari here, anon. <3
Send me two names among the following 12 and I’ll write a short analysis post about them:
Taichi Yagami | Yamato Ishida | Sora Takenouchi | Koushirou Izumi | Mimi Tachikawa | Jyou Kidou | Takeru Takaishi | Hikari Yagami | Daisuke Motomiya | Miyako Inoue | Iori Hida | Ken Ichijouji
Tumblr media
Whether canon provides input on them or not:
It does - one might have to take a very close look to notice it though. The screenshot taken from the episode above might be the first thing that comes to mind when mentioning these two, as they’re getting paired up during the World Tour arc in 02 to travel to Hong Kong together. However, ever since Hikari was introduced in 01, very late in the series, there have been several instances of Koushirou being curious about her (and her strange connection to the Digital World), him interacting with and encouraging her - and he’s actually the only person Taichi tells about their childhood, thus he’s aware of her having been prone to sickness and getting hospitalized due to it. In fact, one of Koushirou’s main roles in the Dark Master’s arc is being the (emotional) support system of the Yagami siblings, which provides a nice set-up for the two of them - at least in theory. Because unfortunately, they don’t interact as much with each other just on their own.
With Hikari being Taichi’s sister and Koushirou being his best friend, it should be a given to assume that there’s at least some kind of familiarity between them, but for the most part, the viewer has to guess how deep their bond actually goes. Hikari obviously tags along with Taichi’s group in 01 and then again with the new Chosen Children in 02, as the entire group treats Koushirou as their mentor there, but they’re not really seen talking to each other a lot. That’s even more obvious in Tri, where they’re maybe standing next to each other once or twice (culminating in the stageplay, where they aren’t interacting at all). Kizuna at least provides a shot of him panicking once he notices that she’s in danger, so he immediately contacts her brother - which basically summarizes his overall interaction theme towards her: She’s in danger/sick/some kind of otherworldly state, so he does whatever it takes to (help) saving her. The reboot, despite putting them together in Team Light, doesn’t show much interpersonal interaction between them either and the only notable thing that happens in regards to them in the novels is Koushirou sneaking out of his room in the middle of the night to confirm that the beeping dot on his digivice is indeed Hikari Yagami...
The most interesting framing may take place in the PSP game, because it actually lets them bond; They’re talking about physical things they’re being attached to (her whistle vs. his laptop), about flowers and “the thought that counts” - and Hikari actually has a lot of praise for Koushirou as well, boosting his self-confidence in the same way he did for her in the anime, so he ends up offering to teach her how to use computers and that’s probably why she knew how to send mail in OWG... Then again, there’s also the infamous (non-canon) love letter drama - which creates a humourous non-existing “love triangle” between Koushirou, Mimi and Hikari in which it is at least implied he maaaaay have written the letter for Hikari...
So tl;dr, there is not nothing and there IS a lot of soft potential.
Whether I think why and how they’d work:
Based on the fact that I just spent quite a while talking about the sheer potential of these two - I definitely believe that they could work. First of all, as mentioned above, they should be close(r) to each other due to their closeness to Taichi. Second of all, we see Koushirou’s protective and kind nature shining through towards her in 01. Paired up with their curious and sweet interactions in the PSP game, I am convinced that the “hyperempathic girl with the magical connection to the Digital World” and the “knowledgable support guy with a technological interest in the Digital World” could be a great (contrasting) combination to end up as a romantic couple. They’re both “weird” (and in their own worlds) in their own ways, both incredibly prone to self-sacrifice and can get pretty mad at others for doing the same (Taichi in particular, but I’m sure they’d be the same towards each other too), so they already have a lot in common. Curiosity and the will to create a wonderful, symbiotic future for the Digital World and the real world is also something that could connect them.
Thanks to the “I’m gonna teach you how to use a computer” bit, I am also sure that they’re very communicative, talking and texting on the phone/computer a lot and there’s a reason why people often headcanon Hikari providing pictures of the Digital World to Koushirou for his studies. I mean, why else would he have opened a shady looking link coming from her immediately (in Kizuna) if he wasn’t at least somewhat used to her sending him things? It’s incredibly endearing to imagine them being kind and supportive towards each other’s goals - ESPECIALLY since Hikari is aiming to become a kindergarden teacher and who would be more suitable to help her than the person who likes to teach, rant and ramble anyway???
They’re both not very offensive/forward when it comes to (facing) their feelings though, in fact, they tend to keep those to themselves rather consistently. Thus, it may be a veeeery persistent slow burn - and Takeru would prooobably have the time of his life dropping hints towards both of them. Koushirou might not get it and Hikari would pout at him and get defensive - but they’d get there. One day, for sure.
I also love the idea of them going on double dates with Taichi and Sora - Team Light should generally be much closer than what canon was showing and I cannot imagine Taichi not giving Koushirou his blessings (despite everything that happened in the infamous love letter drama mentioned above).
Whether I’d prefer them as platonic or romantic ship:
In case it hasn’t been obvious, I love the idea of these two falling for each other and helping the other to realize that their self-sacrificing tendencies have been quite unhealthy in the past - growing and healing while building a future for the Digital and real world together. However, I also like the idea of them just being platonic study buddies, as outlined above, forever giggling together over Taichi bluescreening his PC for the millionth time.

Digimon Stage Play - Full
Aight, so tl;dr: great show, actors are perfect, Yamato is beautiful beyond belief, Mimi is UGHHHHHH in the good way and I’m bitter that the whole show isn’t sold out and whoever was in charge of promotion should be forced to eat nothing but the hottest of hot chillies for the rest of their life.
Timeline: It’s set after Koushirou creates the cyber space for them, but before the reboot. Clearly on/around August 1st ;p
Venue/Goods: a little out of the way, small. You couldn’t buy goods unless you had a ticket, which sucks. Goods were sold on the inside, line was small pre-play, massive after. My store clerk couldn’t count to save her life. People were trading, everybody hated that everything was random and there were so many types of things. Friend and I ordered dvd – no blu ray option, it’s being released in December (average wait time since Japan is very slow on physical releases). Had to downpay 2000 yen, which this and dvd only option has never happened before when I’ve seen other stage shows – not a good sign. No postal option, so my friend has to pick mine up for me – poor form again. (Pick up is only at animate – my nearest one is 2+ hours away :/)
Promotion/sold out: four shows sold out. Tickets reduced to 7000 yen, which is insulting for us who went through lottery. They advertised low prices at fes too. Promotion was done badly. Digimon isn’t massively popular, but Toei isn’t small either. Get a cast twitter, post rehearsal pics etc. Promotion doesn’t need to be costly. Fes advertisement (last weeks vid) was too little too late. Theres events with Miyazaki and AiM and seiyuus, which also seems last minute and an attempt to sell out. Again insulting to those of us to preordered. Shonichi didn’t sell out. Must be tough on actors. Promotion video (August 5th? 6th?) is kinda bad quality – the stage itself looks and sounds better than the video may lead you to believe.
Seating: nice, comfy. We were second row, left hand side, aisle. If we had been one or two more to the left it would have been really bad (same if you’re too overly right). The cast faces back/sideways too often, so we saw a lot of backs. Need to work on being diagonal, basic stage stuff there. However, pros of our seating were: Yamato being right in front of us when he sang, Jyou fishing in front of us and making eye contact with Etemon to the point where it was creepy lmao
Play Y’all. Y’ALL. THIS IS THE GOOD SHIT. A+ A+ A+ A+!!!!!! The puppets look quite nice tbh. Sometimes a little weird and maybe the cast should have worn the traditional black instead, but it was done well. Agumon is twitchy in the start, scene is a little long. He’s basically like ‘my body can’t move/is moving on it’s own???? Wat? Why???’ (both happen, not a bad translation on my part). He wakes up and Gabumon’s like ‘yeah me too’ and some of the other Digimon agree but Palmon’s like ‘yeah same but it’s because I’m not a morning person lmao’.
They all go to where the kids are. So this is set sometime after Koushirou makes the cyber space for them. Mimi and Koushirou talk about camping and Mimi ends up throwing his laptop on the FLOOR. Koushirou looks heartbroken and the entire audience was ?!?!? but sasuga Mimi and Koushirou’s like … well, moving on. Mimi is perfect beyond belief. Right voice, face, mannerisms. I know that’s what acting is, but she NAILED IT. She’s all like ‘camping is about feeling the breeze~’ then acts like she has wind her face, ‘about being hot’ (ahhhh, it’s hoooooot, she says), about monsters! (she says as she stalks towards the Digimon). We then get the scene where Sora talks about the importance of August 1st. While she speaks, on the left and right sides we see actual scenes from the original anime, which is really touching. Sora mentions that although there were good times, there were bad ones too (CUE GIF OF LEOMON DYING BECAUSE THEY HAD TO HAVE IT SOMEWHERE) All the mons wanna go camping which obviously, is cool.
Hikari invites Taichi and they talk. Jyou calls Hikari but Taichi answers and Jyou doesn’t realise. ‘Damn that Taichi, he isn’t coming? Leave it to me!’ Eventually Taichi is like ‘it me moron’ and Jyou convinces him to come after Taichi’s like ‘I BET UR NOT COMING’ because Jyou, as always, has exams. Jyou is a smart ass? He’s like ‘Taichi, next year, you’ll be in my position. And if it’s you… well… you’ll be in trouble.’ SUCH A GOOD SCENE JYOU IS MVP IN THIS PLAY Y’ALL. He gets his creep on here and it’s so funny. A couple of time it’s acknowledged that Hikari should have been there on August 1st but was sick. I believe at one point they were like ‘yeah we’re low key looking for Meikuumon’ so they’ve all met Meiko and plot stuff has happened. Whether you like Meiko or not (and the 02 kids), they aren’t relevant here – August 1st is for the original kids and I’m very glad they kept it that way.
Next is Knife of Day. Yamato sung and you could tell he was nervous but he did really well. He seemed to try and do too much of a Yamato voice instead of his natural voice). Yamato talks technical stuff (music wise) and then he high fives and fist bumps one of the band mates?? CUTIE PATOOTIE ALERT!!!! Honestly, he’s so pure and beautiful? One of the band mates tried to go ‘Knife of Day is… well, the name isn’t…’ ‘HAVE CONFIDENCE IT’S ALL GOOD FRIEND!!!!’ ‘Yamato that’s not what-‘ ‘WITH THESE MEMBERS WE’RE KNIFE OF DAY! WE’RE GOOD!!!’ ‘but the name-‘ ‘THESE FOUR MEMBERS. KNIFE OF DAY. HAVE CONFIDENCE!!!!’ Takeru comes along and talks about camp. Yamato is very cute toward Takeru who is worried a little about him. Very sweet scenes. Yamato explains both the band and August 1st are important to him. Later, Takeru buys Yamato a pink sleeping bag because he’s a shit head lmao
Everyone’s at camp, Mimi forgets everything. She’s adorable. People set up camp, which is cute. Yamato runs the kitchen and Hikari is chased by Agumon because she has meat. Of course, Yamato finds out about his sleeping bag and runs after Takeru. Etemon is the camp ground guardian? (What do you call these guys??) He takes their money (OF COURSE) and keeps going ‘there are MONKEYS around here!’ while posing ridiculously and everyone’s like k cool story. Eventually he’s like YOU WANNA SEE A MONKEY?!? But everyone’s like nah bro we good, so he runs off dejected.
The kids talk about the future. Mimi just wants to be a kid forever, but Palmon says she wants to be an adult lol. Koushirou isn’t sure what he wants to do, but says he likes computers. Jyou really talks about why he wants to be a doctor and it’s such a good speech! Yamato and Taichi are both like ‘well, I like my hobby I guess??’ Sora deflects the question, Hikari doesn’t know.
Theres a scene where Jyou sees a shooting star. Nobody else can see it. It’s cute.
Yamato and Taichi try to converse later (it’s just the two of them because Koushirou said something to ruin the mood so Takeru dragged him away even though he was like ‘I’ll stay awake as long as you’re up bro’). It’s mostly Hey Yamato Yeah? …. … . … Yeah?! …Nothing -silence- We have a lot to talk about, huh Yamato? -plays harmonica-
dumb morons lmao (all KoD stuff and Yamato’s harmonica is live. It sounds much better than what the video leads you to believe!!!!)
Mimi: Sora, you awake? …SORA Hikari: aye what up Mimi: GHOST STORY TIME Hikari: starts telling an old experience Mimi: NO TOO SPOOKY STOP STOP LET’S TALK ABOUT LOVE!!!!!
She tries to get info out of Hikari who tries to get info out of her back. They both start going ‘what about Sora’ who stays asleep but Mimi is about to ‘reveal’ who Sora likes when she shoots up and is all like I DON’T LIKE ANYONE!!! They’re all lying down in sleeping bags, so Hikari and Mimi were jumping around in their sleeping bags and Mimi does the CUTEST wiggle!!!
They talk about their dreams and Mimi is like ‘I like lotsa stuff??’ but she thinks it’s stupid and is kinda embarrassed but they’re like?? No? it’s cool to have multiple interests and dreams? WHICH IS A VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE
Jyou leaves early for his exam the next morning. Shit goes down and people split up to solve the problem. Etemon ends up revealing himself to Taichi and co. He’s super strong and is basically like “it’s been six years your time BUT I’VE BEEN SUPER SUPER LONELY FOR 100 YEARS I JUST WANNA CHILL”
There’s a gate so everyone (bar Jyou) is stuck at camp. Etemon forces Tai, Hikari, Sora and Mimi to bbq with him. AND THE ETEMON FIVE. YES YOU READ THAT RIGHT – ETEMON HAS FOUR COLOURED MONKEY BOY BAND FRIENDS. THEY SING AND EAT AND PLAY TOGETHER. THEY’RE THE ETEMON FIVE, COMING TO A TOWN NEAR YOU!!!
Anyway, there’s a fight and Etemon wins and gets the above group together and the bbq happens. Etemon is super happy to see Hikari (“oniichan!” “eh? You’re the only dude… YOUR SISTER?! HOW ADORABLE!!!”) and she’s like ‘stop fighting’ and he’s like ‘girl? That’s all I want???’ but later they eat all the food and Etemon whips out yakisoba and offers some to Hikari.
“No. I don’t want it.” –awkward silence- Etemon 1: Eh? Why? Etemon 2: -idk- Etemon 3: Don’t push her! Etemon 4: Is it… you’re dieting? If that’s it… I totally understand…
Hikari is done with their shit. She wants to go home. Mimi wants a bath. Sora’s done with this bullshit. They realise time has gone whack so they’ve been there hours. Tai and Sora have a tiff as Tai is trying to keep the peace (doesn’t want to keep fighting, Sora realises they’ve essentially been kidnapped by Etemon 5), Mimi makes Sora back down when she tries to comfort him so Hikari can do it instead. Time is whack so they’ve been there forever, Etemon is like I SAID I WAS LONELY YOU CAN’T LEAVE EVER!!! He then tries to make Taichi be his bestie.
By forcing him into a kiss.
Curtain close.
(Honestly it was the funniest thing – it was a non-sexual kiss, but y’all, consent is consent. I mean, you probably shouldn’t take dating advice from a man in a monkey suit who low key resembles Piko Taro, but like. This is a weird site, Idk where some of you learnt to romance. I feel I need to say that.)
Part Two. Curtain stays shut. Jyou is wandering around the audience. Gomamon says it’s cool he failed his test. Jyou is very dramatic but eventually he reveals he did perfectly. Very cute moment. Etemon comes out after Jyou leaves (curtain still shut) and tries to get the crowd to yell his name. This happened earlier and nobody responded. He asked Taichi what his name was and got no response either ;;;; This time, the audience gave a lukewarm result so we got called weak lol. He then asked us again and we said his name louder, so he was very happy. The curtain was drawn and he almost got pushed away by it.
There’s more of a fight and we see all the groups are separated. The Digimon start feeling affected like how Agumon was at the start. A lot of the discussions they have are mostly about understanding the importance of August 1st, but also realising they can’t stay there forever. Life happens. They need to move on.
A gate appears so everyone is stuck in a barrier. Bar Jyou. Because he understands August 1st, is in the past, but still treasures it. Jyou and Yamato have a really good conversation, and it’s really nice to see Yamato being over the top and emotional around someone who isn’t Takeru or Taichi.
But before that, when everyone realises something is weird Koushirou’s like ‘Jyou is our last hope!’. Yamato and Takeru aren’t… too enthusiastic about that ;;; Anyway, Jyou comes in the barrier like no problem, Takeru tries to show him there’s a problem and Jyou’s like ‘are you miming something? There’s no barrier lol’. Koushirou becomes distrustful that Jyou isn’t the real deal, so he’s like ‘nvm you can leave’ and Jyou does. Only to come right back.
I’m leaving! OKAY BYE!!! –leaves-….-comes back- I’M SERIOUSLY GONNA LEAVE!!! Go right ahead!! …Really?
This exchange goes on for a while and it’s soooooooo funny. Eventually Koushirou and Takeru leave so Yamato and Jyou have their talk, since Yamato is so frustrated he can’t do anything for Gabumon who is clearly unwell.
There’s a fight and Taichi gained confidence from Agumon who is also feeling the effects of the time warp thing. Agumon digivolves into Greymon, and it’s so cool shit. It starts off with a screen and the music and then the big walls move to cover Agumon and BAM life size Greymon!!! It was done soooooo well!!!!
Etemon reveals he isn’t the villain after fighting. (This is kinda spaced out with talking, so like fight talk fight type thing, with having discussions by different groups) It’s kinda like all the previous villains (Dark Masters etc) all merged to form Venommyotism/ Venomvamdemon who is trying to take his revenge. Or something. It’s a little vague. Roll with it. But since that would be hard to make a pupper out of, Etemon just digivolves to King Etemon. It’s so weird because they take off his head???
He struggles with Etemon and eventually Etemon turns into the villain (Venom is just shown on the walls as a projection) and Greymon can’t do much since Venom is too fast/strong, so he digivolves to MetalGreymon. Being in the front row meant I was blast with a lot of icy smoke/fog, which was fun but also… smoke ;;;
Anyway, he still struggles until Yamato comes along with MetalGarurumon. They get their shit together and Omegamon comes out. The Omegamon puppet isn’t the best. It’s from the shoulders up, but it looks slightly too cartoony. Taichi and Yamato stand on his shoulders and end up beating the villain (duh).
Everyone and everything is back to normal, but everyone realises they’re suddenly in their uniforms again. It turns out that everything from when they were wearing casual clothes was a bug. I guess like in the Digital World… sort of? It’s kinda written off as ‘just a dream’. It happened, so everything is canon, but it wasn’t in the digital world but it wasn’t in our world so time was behaving differently.
Yes.
That means Jyou has to do his test again.
It’s vague on how this time bug was created, as is how the villains came back from being dead. That’s not the point of this play. The point is helping the kids to understand that the past is the past, but they need to move on.
It was a really good play, and I encourage you to buy the dvd if you can. If you’d like merch, hmu!

This is quite of a little-vent plus my opinion but...
I don’t think people understand the concept of “Dark Evolution”. Basically because past accusations on Daisuke for never doing so on 02 ep 22 were always done with the idea “force your digimon to evolve = dark evolution”
And, this is NOT the case. Really. So I’d like to talk a bit about this and break through the concept, based on what I know from the series depicting it.
(yes, I’m talking about a beaten discourse, but I’m afraid of GG reviving it soon or later...)
To begin with, let’s take a look at the concept depicted in the Adventure novel, which has more details for this scene:
It was courage, no doubt about that. But unlike the innocent bravery he had shown at the Koromon village to save his friends, something dishonest was also mixed in. One of them was the feeling of making Greymon evolve to Perfect level. And the other was that even if it was for evolution, and even if he felt bad for putting Greymon through this rigorous trial for his sake, he wanted the glory that would come from it. (TL by Onkei)
In the anime it was mostly about reckless, but I think it also matches with the novel’s details. Taichi did not dark evolve Greymon because he forced Greymon. Actually was because of him simply being reckless and being dishonest -- he wanted the glory for getting his digimon to evolve to a higher level. In this case, Taichi putting himself in danger for no reason than being quite a prideful idiot.
As for Takato & Masaru, this was caused by rage of seeing something really terrible or like a betrayal. Takato and Masaru literally wanted to destroy Beelzebumon and Tohma, respectively (Masaru even screams “Die Tohma!” on screen) -- this is not about forcing an evolution, but more letting your wrath consume your soul and then pass it through your digimon.
Also, within 02, we had Ken’s case. But he wanted to dark evolve Greymon to MetalGreymon, so he legitimately forced on him, getting SkullGreymon by it. And, I think in this case, Ken was also a prideful kid self-absorbed to the point he only managed to get MetalGreymon BECAUSE he modified the Dark/Evil Ring for this.
Now, let’s back to Daisuke’s case -- the one in the past people gave me headache because of this -- he’s doing absolutely NOTHING harmful. There’s no actual negative feelings or any pride or wrath. He wasn’t trying to make V-mon evolve to beat Takeru and be cool! He wanted to evolve V-mon because he was feeling third wheeled and wanted Hikari to think he was cool too! Daisuke’s case is more about a jealousy, but not like something envious. Also, in his whole plans to get V-mon’s evolution... He ended up putting himself in legit real danger later. So XV-mon came in handy.
In the other cases, there was something more deep and dangerous than only “forcing” a digimon to evolve -- Taichi & Kaiser had some pride on table, Takato and Masaru really went on a rampage mode after some horrible things happened in front of them.
Daisuke? He was just acting like a pathetic goofball. Hence no dark evolution for V-mon.

Soooo, I just finished the latest tri movie. Thoughts under the read more
Well for the most part, I was really bored for most of the movie. I’ve seen this multiple times in the tag, but for a movie that was supposedly supposed to be split evenly between Hikari and Meiko...it seemed to be mostly about Meiko. And most of the movie felt forced and unnatural.
BUT THEN WE GOT TO THE FOURTH PART. OH DAMN THIS IS WHERE THE GOOD SHIT HAPPENED.
FIRST, THE BATTLEGROUND THAT THEY WERE TRANSPORTED TO? IT LOOKED RATHER FAMILIAR. MEANING IT WAS THE SAME SPOT THAT THE 02 KIDS SUFFERED THEIR DEFEAT AT THE HANDS OF ALPHAMON. I CANNOT SAY THAT IS A COINCIDENCE CUZ THEY MADE A POINT IN THIS MOVIE THAT REPEAT IMAGERY IS SIGNIFICANT (I.E. FILE ISLAND).
SECOND, WHERE MAKI WAS? THAT WAS THE DARK OCEAN. THAT WAS 100% THE DARK OCEAN. SO THAT’S A THING.
AND OH GOD, WHEN TAICHI “DIED” (come on, we all know he’s not dead). I GOT EMOTIONAL WHEN YAMATO TOOK HIS GOOGLES AND TOOK HIS SPOT AS LEADER. BECAUSE DAMMIT, IT WAS NECESSARY. THE WORLD IS KINDA IN CHAOS. THERE REALLY IS NO TIME FOR GRIEVING.
-ahem- Anyway, the fact that we are beginning to get tie ins with the 02 kids is significant I think. I may just be reaching here, but there’s repeat scenery and the dark ocean. I think Tai may have “disappeared” to where the 02 kids are right now. And when that happens shit is gonna get real.
TL;DR: The sixth movie is going to be a fucking mess.

@nibimatatabi : It's Meiko's story. So that's all they're telling. The 02 kids were a plot device. [I've seen nothing of tri. don't take what i say seriously] Hmmm, you're right. Tri seems to be growing to be Meiko's story, just like 02 grew up to be Ken's story. But a better comparison would be with Hurricane Touchdown, which was Wallace's story (a character that was introduced for that movie and that movie only) and used the '99 kids are plot device. But the thing is, even with a much more limited time, Hurricane Touchdown at least took it's time to show how and where Taichi and co. were. In fact, the WHOLE reason Daisuke, Miyako and Iori travelled all the way to America was to meet Hikari and Takeru so they could look for the '99 kids. Even when they meet Wallace and befriend him, they don't make everything about him and forget about their older friends. tl;dr: TRI IS FULL OF BULLSHIT AND HURRICANE TOUCHDOWN, EVEN WITH A SHORTER TIME, HANDLED A SIMILAR OVERALL PLOT MUCH BETTER. TOEI HAS NO EXCUSES.
