lately i've been thinking about dumbification/brainwashing/whatever where the more you try to think, the harder it is to think

so, when it first happens and you're trying to figure out what happened to you, you quickly lose your grip on language, pushing yourself until you're completely braindead and drooling

once you're under deep enough that even *trying* to think is, well, unthinkable, you come back online for a bit, so to speak. and maybe you repeat this process again. maybe you repeat it many times, thinking yourself into oblivion, struggling to figure out what happened to you, where you are, who you are, how to speak, etc. you never succeed, of course, just rendering yourself catatonic every time.

eventually however, you stop struggling. stop trying so hard. and you actually become a more-or-less functioning person, albeit a LOT dimmer than you were originally—you're not reading a book or entering a college classroom anytime soon (or doing a sudoku, or watching anything more complicated than trashy reality tv, or remembering much about your old life, or or or...), but you can still talk and fuck and giggle, and besides you have other people to tell you what to think now, so it's not so bad~!
