Beginning / Previously /Next
((The Sims Unleashed Soundtrack - MAXIS))
Special thanks to @storiesbyjes2g for allowing the handsome Angelo Parrish to be traded to DSV! 😉
For easier reading, please see transcript below the cut:
Izzy: Hello Loves!
Devon: Hey Babes! I see I’m no longer the only blonde!
Izzy: Just confirming that you do really have more fun!
Uchechi: *whispering* Izzy?
Walker: *giggles* Izzy.
Obie: Guys, I’d like you to meet Wally’s brother and sister-in-law, Julian, and Uchechi. Fam, these are our friends Izzy and Matteo.
Matteo: A pleasure, to be sure!
Izzy: Welcome! Glad you could join us!
Julian: We appreciate the invite! This is quite the shindig you’ve set up!
Izzy: Me?! Oh no! Matty, Dirk and I helped pad the guest list a little, but this is all Penny’s doing. Apparently her nepo baby boss screwed up and called Penn to the rescue.
Matteo: They’re lucky we were aiming for a quiet evening this year.
Walker: Where is she?
Matteo: She was just here before you came… Ah! Over there with Kareem.
Uchechi: McCain?
Julian: Please excuse my wife while she fangirls. *everyone laughs*
Penny: When did you folks get here?
Devon: About 5, 10 minutes?
Penny: Again Wawa, I’ll be raiding your closet.
Walker: You’re wearing Sentate but wanna raid my closet? *the three of them laugh*
Devon: You got a good crowd.
Penny: Right? I could kill my boss for dumping this in my lap so last minute. Especially on a holiday weekend! I’m in marketing, not miracles.
Devon: You may have missed your calling…
Penny: Bite your tongue! *the three of them laugh*
Walker: Well, we appreciate the invite. Jules and Chichi especially.
Penny: I’m thrilled you all could make it. I swear to gnomes, Ezra owes me!
Devon: Who?
Penny: *sigh* It’s a long ass story… The CEO’s nephew. He—
Dirk: Ay y’all! This is my boy, Angelo! Just moved from Brindleton. Angie, you know Dev and the Misters. These are my friends Obie, Walker, Julian, Uchechi & Penny, the architect of this event.
Angelo: *nods in greeting* Nice to meet you all. Thank you for the invitation. I –
Kareem: No need for a speech! *Angelo chuckles in surprise*
Devon: As grown as these men are, they become such kids when they get together.
Penny: It’s kinda sweet…

19, 20, and 28 for the writing ask! 💕
Wahh, thank you!!! ;v;
[fic writing asks]
19. Share a snippet from a wip without giving any context for it.
“Penny for your thoughts?” Ronan asked, breaking the silence. His Irish accent was musical to Adam’s ear, foreign and different to the prolonged, softened vowels of the Henrietta drawl he was used to.
“They’re worth more than a penny,” Adam replied, smiling a little.
Ronan laughed, also musical, and Adam wondered what his own capacity was for torture.
“Well then,” Ronan hummed. “How much would I have to pay to hear what’s on your mind, Adam Parrish?”
A kiss Adam thought. You in my bed.
He said instead, “more than you’ve got on you. I only take cash.”
20. Do you work on a single project or many at the same time? How does that work for you?
I usually work on one project at a time but sometimes I'm super inspired and I'll write at least two things at once, which is about as much as my brain can handle lol I'm usually okay with switching back and forth between storylines. If I have two projects going at once, I'll work on one one day and the other the next day or switch when I feel pulled toward one project over the other.
28. Any writing advice that works for you and you feel like sharing?
If you have someone you trust, see if they'll beta for you! I've found having a beta to be so helpful in bettering my writing and thinking differently about how I write! My beats and descriptors are so much better and I've learned so much more about writing better by having someone offering feedback and perspective that I miss when I'm writing!

Is it just me or the scene where Adam touched Ronan, who's become this weird alien entity and laughs is pretty similar to that scene in Howl's Moving Castle when Sophie touches Howl, who's become this weird bird thing and he recognises her??

here comes the sun (ao3) derek x stiles x allison, g, established relationship, fluff an: i didn’t think i’d go from idly considering derek/allison and stiles/allison to a poly relationship but @tylerhunklin shamelessly enabled me so here we are!
--
Derek wakes up next to the woman he loves with hair tickling his nose.
Sprawled out on the bed, nearly on top of her from the way they’d moved in their sleep, fingers curled around the arm she has stretched out towards the cold, empty side. He nuzzles into her skin, nose brushing against the wispy hair at the back of her neck, before rolling off her and stretching, gripping the headboard with both hands over his head.
She makes a protesting noise when he gets off the bed but simply buries herself deeper into the blankets, and Derek leans over to kiss her exposed shoulder before pulling the sheet up to cover.
He’s cutting an avocado into slices when she comes downstairs an hour later, in too-long sweatpants that pool against the floor and a BHSD hoodie that’s half-zipped, pulled to the side and showing off her collarbone. “Hey,” she says as she shuffles up to him; they’re both like this in the mornings when they have a chance to be, syrupy slow as they meander through their routine. He finishes the avocados as she stands silently at his side until he pushes them away, and she takes the opportunity to tuck herself under his arm.
“Morning,” he says, dipping his head to kiss her when she turns her face up, minty breath ghosting over his bottom lip when he pulls back. Allison lifts herself up on her toes and chases after him with a slight pout, and he laughs and kisses her again. “Coffee’s in the fridge.”
She hums but doesn’t move except to wiggle her hands underneath his t-shirt. “Me and you today?”
“Yep,” he says, reaching out with one hand to grab the spatula and flip the eggs, one yolk breaking as he does, and turn the burner off. “We talked about rock climbing. Still want to go?”
“Absolutely,” she says. “I start nights tomorrow, though, so I need to go to bed early. Can we go before lunch?”
“Sure,” he says. He has some work to do, but he can do that after she goes to sleep. She kisses the underside of his jaw and moves away; Derek takes the thick slices of sourdough he’d toasted and butters them before arranging avocado slices on each and topping them with an egg. Allison’s hands brush across his back as she moves around the kitchen behind him, and he can hear ice clinking into glasses and coffee being poured. He doesn’t need to tell her how he wants it after so many years, just knows it’ll be the right amount of sweetness, heavy cream curling down and reaching for the bottom when he gets to the table with both their plates, the sunlight peeking through the clouds casting shadows over the room as she pulls her chair close to his and starts to eat.
--
Derek wakes to the sound of the man he loves dropping a pan on the stove and cursing.
He’s briefly disgruntled by the jarring wake-up until he realizes the sun has fully settled over the horizon when it should be just barely peeking through the trees. His phone, when he manages to free it from its hiding place under the blankets, shows his alarm has been turned off and it’s an hour after he’d meant to wake up.
He trudges out of bed and into the bathroom, thinks about putting on clothes but doesn’t despite the chill in the air, and is rubbing the sleep out of his eyes when he rounds the corner to the kitchen and has to stop in his tracks so he doesn’t run into the chair Stiles pulled out to drop his utility belt on and didn’t bother to push back in.
“Hey, babe,” Stiles says from the stove. Derek ignores the coffee already on the table and slides right up behind him, wrapping both arms around Stiles’ waist and squeezing. He works a button of his deputy’s shirt open and slips a hand in, using his fingers to slowly tug the undershirt up so he can get to skin. “Sleep okay?”
Derek grunts.
“Aww, bed too cold and lonely?” he teases, then sets his hand on top of Derek’s arm and squeezes. “You did sleep, didn’t you?”
“Little bit,” Derek says. It’s been a long time since he had to sleep alone, and he’d lingered in his office working on translations until after midnight, and had fallen asleep reading in bed, trying to ignore how silent the house was.
“I’ll be off nights soon,” Stiles says. He tilts his head back and turns, catching Derek’s temple, kisses trailing across his cheek and nose until they find each other’s mouth. Stiles’ lips part after a moment, teeth grazing Derek’s bottom lip before his tongue slips inside—only to pull away with a muttered curse as he turns and yanks the pan with the now overdone omelet off the burner.
Derek dips his head to press a dry kiss against his neck, knowing the next step will involve him getting an elbow to the gut if he doesn’t move now. He rubs his eyes again on the way to the table and slumps down, pulling the warm mug close, breathing in the smell of espresso and caramel until a plate clatters down in front of him.
When Stiles turns around to grab his own coffee off the counter, Derek reaches out and trades their plates, gives himself the omelet that’s brown and a little crispy on the outside and takes a large bite.
“That neighborhood yard sale is going on today,” Stiles says, glancing at his plate and shaking his head, the barest smile on his face. “I know you say we don’t need other people’s junk in the house but one man’s junk is another man’s treasure, Derek, and I heard that Michigan flag guy down the street has a set of vintage encyclopedias he’s selling, and that the dude with all the stupid stickers on his car is getting rid of one of those beach cruiser bikes and if it’s the mint green one, we’re absolutely getting it. Parrish told me that—”
Stiles keeps talking as he eats, voice going muffled as he chews, a constant patter of words chasing the silence of the last night out of Derek’s head. It feels better with him there, the darkness lifting away to a new day, and by the time they’re finished eating and clearing away the plates, Derek’s finally free of the unease he’d felt all night.
--
Derek wakes up with both the people he loves in bed.
Allison’s tucked against him, smooth skin under the arm he has around her waist, hair spilling down the curve of her shoulder. Her hand is on Stiles’ chest, two fingers resting on skin and the others curled around the collar of his shirt like she wants to be ready to hold him in place if he moves. Stiles is flat on his back, mouth open in the way that means he’ll complain about his throat being scratchy later, the only concession to sharing a bed with two others made in the way he stretches his leg across their space to rest his foot on Derek’s ankle.
He drifts in and out of sleep until Allison moves against him, breath catching as she wakes. “Morning,” she whispers, and as soon as Derek kisses the dip in her shoulder, she wiggles out of his grasp and straddles Stiles’ hips.
“Let him sleep,” Derek says, half-heartedly, but can’t hide his smile when Allison leans down over Stiles and lets her hair fall around his face, swishing it back and forth as Stiles twitches in his sleep.
“Wake up, lazy,” she sing-songs, and shrieks when Stiles’ arms shoot up around her before he rolls them straight into Derek. “Help, help—get off—” she laughs, groping out one hand for Derek and using the other to dig into Stiles’ side.
“You’re on your own,” he says, and Stiles looks over at him with sleepy, honey brown eyes and grins, soft and gentle before he leans in. Derek kisses him, cups a hand around the back of his neck to hold him in place for a moment. “I’m going to start breakfast. We’re leaving for the market in an hour. You want pancakes or french toast?”
“French toast, have to use the—Jesus fuck, baby, watch the nails—uh, french toast,” he says, still swatting at Allison’s hands. Derek squeezes his neck gently in confirmation and slides out of bed; by the time he’s out of the bathroom, Stiles is stretched out on top of Allison, her hands threaded in his hair.
“An hour,” he reminds them, throwing a wadded up shirt in their direction, shaking his head when Allison raises one hand and gives him a thumbs up. He’s so sure he’ll have to drag them both out of bed when the food is ready that it surprises him when they come crashing into the kitchen just fifteen minutes later, Allison on Stiles’ back, his face contorted in faux-exertion as he deposits her onto the counter and fakes collapsing on the ground.
He leans over when Allison beckons for him and kisses her, letting the fork that was in his hand fall into the egg mixture, whipped and ready to soak the bread in. She scoots close and wraps her legs around his waist; he can feel her ankles cross behind him, pulling him in as she licks into his mouth, breaks away and tilts her head to allow him access to her neck. Her nails trace delicate patterns on his bare shoulder blades as he scrapes his teeth against her skin; Stiles’ hand slaps his ass a moment later and the sound of the fork against glass starts back up as he takes over Derek’s task.
“An hour,” he intones in a grumpy, serious voice, and Allison snorts right into Derek’s ear. “If I miss the organic, free-range eggs, I’ll rip your throat out.”
“With my teeth,” Allison adds in her own—poor—imitation of Derek’s voice, and Derek pinches her side before he kisses her cheek and lets her go.
“You two should take this show on the road,” Derek says, bumping Stiles out of the way. He tries, and Derek loves him for it, but his french toast is forever undercooked because of his lack of patience. “You could make a few pennies.”
“I’m hilarious,” Stiles says airily, “and she’s pretty. We’ll make a fortune.” He plucks a few blueberries out of the carton and holds one up, squinting one eye closed before he tosses it at Allison. She misses, but catches it in her hand and lobs it back, and Derek resigns himself to being hit at least five times before breakfast is ready. They engage in this little ritual every Saturday, and are somehow no better now than they were three years ago.
Eventually—three smashed blueberries and one nearly broken glass later—he pulls the last slice out of the pan as Allison slides off the counter, the three of them moving around each other easily to get everything to the table. Stiles slides a plate of bacon onto the table and Allison reaches out to keep it from knocking into Derek’s coffee, and he smiles sheepishly as he plops into the seat across from them, kicking his feet up to rest in Derek’s lap.
“So,” Stiles says, loading up a plate and handing it over to Allison, “farmer’s market, that awful place on Pine for Lydia’s birthday gift, bookstore so Derek can lord his intelligence over us—what else?”
“Nail salon,” Allison says, and Stiles mimes praising the lord before winking at Derek. “It’s opening night at the drive-in,” she says, shooting a hopeful look at Derek. “We promise not to get kicked out this time.”
“I do not promise that,” Stiles says, “but I still think we should go.”
Derek huffs out a breath and rolls his eyes, snagging the last of the bacon; they know he’ll go along with anything they want to do. Allison’s hand drops onto his thigh, brushing across Stiles’ ankle, and he lets their familiar, comforting voices become background noise as he reaches for his coffee and gets ready to start the day.

Merry Christmas, tabbytabbytabby!
For @tabbytabbytabby, who wanted alive Hale pack and anything alternative universe. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND I HOPE YOU ENJOY IT!!!! I decided to go with a rock band AU because let's face it, they're all stupid hot and would look so good doing it. My headcanon for alive Laura Hale is the incomparable Katie McGrath if you want a visual. Those eyes, man. They make my little bisexual heart very happy.
Also everyone here is somewhere in the Kinsey Scale :)))) There will be smut and idiocy. Idiots in love has become one of my favourite tags!
The underage occurs when Derek and Stiles are in high school. Derek is a senior and Stiles is a sophomore.
Band line up is as follows:
Laura - lead vocals Derek - lead guitar Boyd - bass Erica - acoustic guitar and backing vocals Isaac - keyboard and backing vocals Cora - drums and backing vocals

Edge Of Seventeen
Chapter 1 - Say What Now?
‘Do you want to?’
It took Stiles a few moments to focus on the words, electricity buzzing under his skin and his mouth bruised and still wet with Derek’s spit. Two warm broad hands settled either side of his face and gently redirected his attention. In the dark of the Camaro’s back seat, Derek’s pale eyes glittered.
‘We can.’ His voice was low and rough, his breathing out of kilter. ‘If you want to.’
Stiles looked at him, his heart racing a thousand miles a minute.
I want to.’ he said and fell into another kiss.
The alarm woke Stiles with a start. He swore and leaned over to slide a finger across the screen and turn it off. He’d forgotten when he’d arrived the night before, still a little jet lagged and not quite with everything when he’d collapsed into bed and been asleep in what was probably a record time.
He lay still, looking up at the ceiling and getting his breath back. He hadn’t had a dream about Derek Hale in a very long time and he was chalking it up to being back in his childhood bed. Independence Day had been the one holiday he’d won in the field office lottery, and so Stiles had packed up and gone home for the long weekend, four blissful days off. He’d known going into the FBI would be hard, but he’d had no idea just how hard it would be. Noah was delighted. The last time they’d seen each other had been Christmas and Stiles had been morose after yet another break up. He’d spent an afternoon wandering around the preserve, ending up staring at the Hale house, still closed up and looking a little worse for wear, with nary a Hale in sight.
This time it was summer, the heat already making his room uncomfortable. Stiles grimaced and plucked his damp t-shirt away from his skin, sitting up and dragging a hand over his face as he tried to wake up properly, manfully ignoring his dream-induced erection that made him feel like he was a teenager all over again.
‘Stiles?’ Noah yelled from downstairs. ‘You up, kiddo?’
‘I’m twenty-six, Dad,’ Stiles muttered, standing up and stretching. ‘Not a kid anymore.’
He was feeling it too, the crashing realisation that those carefree days were far behind him. He had a job and an apartment in Sacramento, cacti that he had managed not to kill. All the cool stuff. It wasn’t hard to feel like something was missing but Stiles would never admit that the string of failed relationships he had accumulated were anything to do with what Lydia referred to as ‘the one who got away’.
Noah was in the kitchen as he predicted, sleep rumpled and unshaven in sweat pants and an old BHPD t-shirt. He’d been taking it a bit easier, giving Parrish more and more responsibility. Stiles was pleased and Parrish was both smart and sensible, a combination that Lydia had found irresistible. Their senior year fling had evolved into a long term relationship until Lydia had come home to buy them a small clapboard Victorian near the preserve and commute to the research lab every day where she had her associate professorship. Parrish had presented her with a simple solitaire ring at Christmas and she was very happy.
‘Are you going to see Mom?’ he asked and Stiles nodded, grabbing the orange juice from the ridge and pouring himself a glass, sniffing hopefully at the eggs Noah was scrambling. He noticed Stiles’ meaningful look and grinned.
‘I thought I would go after breakfast,’ He beamed at his father when he was presented with a plate full of eggs and bacon.
‘It’s turkey before you get on your high horse,’ Noah told him. ‘Get your own coffee if you want some.’
‘Not yet.’ Stiles made space for him to sit down and they ate in comfortable silence. Once finished, he did get up to make two cups. Noah accepted his gratefully and smiled at his son, grey eyes twinkling.
‘So…,’ he started and Stiles held up a finger.
‘No,’ he said. ‘I don’t care who it is you want to set me up with, it’s not happening.’ His parents had a terrible habit of matchmaking.
Noah held up both hands in supplication.
‘Not setting you up,’ he protested. ‘Just thought I’d mention that when your mother went into the shop yesterday, she saw a ghost from the past. Several, actually.’
Stiles cursed internally. His dad knew he couldn’t resist a good mystery.
‘Okay, I’ll bite,’ he replied, starting to get up.
‘The Hales.’ Noah replied with all the smugness of a man who knew he had the scoop of the year.
‘Oh fuck.’ Stiles blurted and tripped over his chair.
-
It was the sneezing that woke Derek up.
‘Jesus fuck!’ Laura roared a floor below him. ‘How much fucking shit is in this place?’
‘Oh good, she’s awake.’ Cora muttered and turned over. They were in what had been the twins’ bedroom, each of them crammed into a single that was a little on the small side. The top storey of the house was still a burned out wreck and the furniture had been largely taken away over the years and so the pickings had been slim, with their merry threesome taking the scorched master bedroom and Laura camping out on the sagging couch downstairs. As Alpha, she always preferred to be on watch as it were.
‘This was such a bad idea.’ Derek borrowed deeper into his comforter. ‘We should have brought the bus.’
‘That would have given the game away.’ Laura replied, hearing them both perfectly even though she was now in the kitchen. ‘Which part of low profile are you two having trouble with?’
‘We could have always stayed in a hotel. Sleeping int the burned out remains of our family home is precisely the opposite of low profile. Lo.’ Derek pointed out, sitting up. There was no way he’d be going back to sleep. Not with his alpha on a mission.
‘Discretion is our watchword, Derek.’ Laura hissed and started banging pots and pans around with a maximum of noise. Derek looked over at Cora. Her dark eyes were just visible under the pillow she had over her head.
‘You’re her second.’ She bared her teeth at him. ‘You go deal with her.’
‘I hate you.’ Derek said flatly, rolling out of bed and onto his feet. He stumbled a little on the stairs, still half asleep. Laura had her head buried in a blackened cupboard when he got to the kitchen. It hadn’t been as badly affected as the rest of the house but it was still a health hazard as far as he was concerned.
‘Where the hell is the waffle iron?’ she demanded. ‘Mom said she left it here.’
‘Who the fuck knows?’ Derek yawned and went to the fridge. There was nothing inside except for a gallon of milk and the leftover Chinese take out from the night before. He sniffed a carton of lemon chicken, grabbing some disposable chopsticks from the small pile on the kitchen table, and started eating. Laura eyed him, one fang just visible.
‘We need proper food.’ She glared at the ceiling. ‘Everybody up! We’re going grocery shopping!’
‘Christ.’ Derek grumbled. ‘You think that’s low profile too?’
‘Shut up.’ Laura swept past him, nose in the air. ‘I’m the Alpha now.’
Derek sniggered and let her go, enjoying his leftovers while he listened to her rouse the threesome. There was a lot of complaining, and he couldn’t really blame them. Their schedule had been hectic, even for wolves, and they were all tired and the house wasn’t exactly welcoming. Laura’s plans to come home and reclaim their territory now she was an Alpha in her own right had seen them finish the final leg of their international tour in New York, a quick catch up with their pack and then flying down to Sacramento and driving the three hours to Beacon Hills all in twenty-four hours. They had barely had time to stop in at the small coffee shop near the Sheriff's station before coming out to the house, which had been shut up for the past ten years. Peter had intended to join them, but had been delayed in New York. As their manager, he was the one who took care of all the dealings with their record company. If it was left to him and Laura, they probably would have eaten every executive by now. He was worth every penny they paid him, even if the meeting had probably been manufactured as a way to get out of cleaning up the house.
-
Stiles pulled up at the cemetery, parking the Jeep behind the old truck that had parked off centre and across two spaces. Grinning, he got out and made his way through the iron gates, remembering Isaac Lahey, who’d been a couple of years above him at school. His father had been the groundskeeper before there had been an incident at their house and Coach Lahey had been found dead. He remembered Isaac being taken in by social services and a whole sordid story of child abuse and alcoholicism coming out. Isaac had stayed off school for a week and then simply vanished off the face of the earth. There had been a lot of theories as to where he’d gone, but the truth was he wasn’t the first person to do that in 2011.
Stiles got lost in thought as he meandered between the headstones, finally coming to a stop in front of one made of white marble and embossed with angels.
‘That’s new.’ he remarked. ‘Not sure about the daffodils.’
‘They’re so gaudy.’ The dark haired woman kneeling at the grave grinned over her shoulder at him, her eyes the same warm whiskey brown as her son’s. ‘I’m glad to see you made it out of bed. I was starting to think you’d spend the whole weekend hibernating.’
‘Funny.’ Stiles helped Claudia up and gave her a long hug. When she let him go, she stepped back and looked him up and down.
‘You look good.’ she said. ‘Dare I say, professional.’
‘Mom.’ Stiles settled his hands on her shoulders. ‘Dad said you saw the Hales yesterday.’
‘Oh.’ Claudia’s look of faux innocence was belied by the mischievous twinkle in her eyes. ‘Is that why you came to see me. No ‘I’ve missed you terribly Mother’, but ‘You saw the fucking Hales’.’
‘Mom.’ Stiles narrowed his eyes at her. ‘Did you see him?’
‘Who?’ Claudia crinkled her nose in amusement. ‘The boy you’ve been literally pining for, for almost a decade?’
‘I’m sure he’s not a boy anymore.’ Stiles snorted. ‘And yes. Stop playing dumb.’
‘I might have.’ Claudia tilted her head. ‘What’s it worth?’
‘A double chocolate muffin and all the lattes you can drink.’ Stiles replied and she cackled and linked her arm through his.
‘Done.’ she declared. ‘And you’re right. He’s definitely not a boy anymore.’

Derek leaned heavily on the cart, eyelids at half mast and his senses muted. The store was fairly empty, the early hour on a Saturday meaning that most shoppers were yet to make an appearance. Next to him Boyd yawned and shifted on his feet, hands sunk deep in the pockets of his leather jacket.
They’d been best friends a long time, playing basketball and baseball and getting into shit when they were teenagers and when things had turned bad and they’d had to leave, Boyd had been dogged in his refusal to cut ties and turned up at the pack house in New York a week after graduation with Erica in tow. They had walked right in and asked Talia for the bite and she’d given it gladly. Derek knew she was going to do it for Erica even before they had had to flee their territory and they’d settled in like they’d always been pack. Isaac had, of course, already joined them earlier and his delight at having them back had turned into a deep and abiding love that saw them forming their triad and becoming mates.
Erica was leaning on Isaac, her blond curls dragged into a messy ponytail and Cora was trailing Laura a few feet ahead. It always grated that she had inherited their mother’s early rising nature while the rest of them would have happily slept in and threw her weight around to get them out of bed when they most definitely didn’t want to. Even the fact that Derek was her twin didn’t let him get out of doing what she wanted.
‘Toilet paper.’ Laura turned and they all tried to avoid her eyes. ‘Derek. Take Boyd and grab some.’
‘But I’m minding the cart,’ he whined, clinging to it like a drowning man to a life preserver.
‘Go!’ Laura’s eyes flared red for just a second and Derek had to resist the urge to snarl back at her like he’d always used to. The whole alpha thing was new, the result of an overambitious alpha that had come into their territory planning to challenge Talia and ending up facing her daughter instead when they tried to take Cora with the intention of forcibly mating her and claiming rights. Talia had always taught them to solve their problems with diplomacy but Laura was headstrong and fiercely protective of her siblings, ever since Kate Argent had tried to use her to get close enough to kill them all. She’d almost succeeded too, that night of the party to celebrate the basketball teams’ victory for nationals providing the perfect distraction for them to be off their guard. Kate had struck in the early hours of the morning and she’d had them trapped, the beginnings of an arson that would have killed them all if Derek hadn’t come back and caught her. He’d ripped her throat out with his teeth, calling Deaton in a panic to come and break the circle of mountain ash that kept them trapped and they’d all watched their family home burn until the police and emergency services had arrived.
Talia had decided that it was too dangerous to stay, knowing the Argents would come for Derek, getting them all packed in a matter of twenty-four hours and away from what was left of their home. They’d gone to their father’s pack in New York State, leaving no sign of them behind. It was the way with wolves, always having a back-up in case something went wrong. The Argents were a large and powerful hunting clan and there would be retribution for the death of Gerard’s golden child, but when they came for the Hales they would find the place empty. Deaton stayed, both to protect the territory and report back to Talia about hunters coming in and not a month after it had happened, they had come. Thankfully the wards on the Hale land had kept the territory claim in place and the hunters had left with no satisfaction.
The rest had been a long and bloody fight between their respective Councils. Gerard had wanted Derek’s head for killing Kate and Talia had countered with the evidence that Kate had planned to kill a pack of law-abiding wolves along with their children. The matter had finally been settled when Gerard died of cancer and his granddaughter, by all accounts a level headed and honourable young woman about the same age as Derek, had taken over.
The music had started as a way to keep them all sane while this was happening, Talia more or less forcing them into music therapy as a way to deal with what had happened. It had been a bit of a shock to realise they were actually very good at it and they’d formed the band. Some minor success saw them moving steadily up the indie charts until it became their lives. Laura had named them Hale Pack 2.0 and Talia had laughed so hard when they’d told her that she’d shifted and clawed right through the cushion she was holding, feathers flying around them like a small snowstorm.
Derek hadn’t minded at first. The music was what he loved, the fame and money secondary. The Hales were already rich, but Peter had jumped at the chance to do something different and he drove their commercial success. They were in that comfortable zone of being middle of the road, not so successful enough that they were household names but it became hard in New York to go anywhere without being recognised.
Derek didn’t enjoy that part much. He was solitary and quietly sarcastic by nature, but unfortunately that just seemed to translate into brooding and mysterious in interviews and so he was plagued by a long line of would-be groupies that tagged along after him like a cloud of midges. Laura found it hilarious and basked in her own popularity. As an out lesbian, she had her choice of pretty girls to shack up with. Cora kept her asexuality to herself, just as surly as Derek was. The other three were not exactly open about their polyamorous arrangegment, but they didn’t hide it either. They were lucky, having found each other and being able to keep each other.
He often thought about that night, the one where the reason he’d been able to save his family was because he’d been in the back seat of his father’s illicitly borrowed Camaro with the boy he’d loved pretty much forever and indulging in a bit of mutual deflowering. Then he’d had to pack up and leave said boy without even saying goodbye or telling him where he was going. It had hurt more than he’d thought possible and if part of why Derek was so keen to come back to Beacon Hills was to try and track down that boy, then who was to know. The only people who knew what he’d been up to were Boyd (because Derek told him everything) and Laura (because she’d sat on him and tickled him until he’d confessed and then had to hold her while she cried, guilt and shame coming off her in waves). Derek hadn’t had the heart to complain when their very survival had been at stake because he’d killed Kate Argent, no matter whose fault it had been. Talia had said to make a clean break with the town and while she’d made allowances for their friends who were already in the know, that was as far as she was willing to push her luck.
Derek and Laura had finished out their schooling at home, Cora had gone to boarding school in South America with her Argentinian grandmother’s pack and the twins were still too young to be a problem so that was, as they said, that. Then had come college, followed by the band and the success and the travelling and before Derek knew it, it had been almost ten years and he was twenty-eight and still hung up on Stiles fucking Stilinski.
‘Hey.’ Boyd bumped him with his shoulder. ‘You alive in there?’
‘Not really.’ Derek surveyed the toilet paper and grabbed a couple of twenty-four packs. ‘Just thinking.’
‘Yeah.’ Boyd grinned, lighting up his usually serious face. ‘I can guess what about too.’
‘Not a goddamned word.’ Derek growled and then froze, his nose twitching madly.
It wasn’t exactly the same, a little deeper and a little thicker but he’d recognise that scent anywhere with his nose stuffed up and people throwing peppermint oil in his face. He shoved the toilet paper at Boyd and charged through the aisle, needing to find the source and skidding to a halt in the aisle with the candy and stared at the Sheriff, who looked like a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar. In fact, as it was he had cookies in his hands which he quickly put back.
‘Derek?’ He looked pleasantly surprised. ‘Claudia said she’d seen you.’ He came over and Derek couldn’t help taking in a deep breath. The scent of Stiles was all over the Sheriff and it made his heart start thumping like a drum.
‘Sheriff Stilinski.’ He took the offered hand and shook it, gleeful when he could smell a little bit of Stiles on his own skin. ‘Yeah, we’re back. Laura said she was going to stop by and talk to you about the house. She’s actually around here somewhere.’ He couldn’t stop smiling. ‘I’m glad you’re still here.’
‘Where else would we be?’ The Sheriff raised an eyebrow at him. ‘To be honest, we never thought you’d come back. Any of you. The last we heard, you mom and dad had skipped town and taken you all with them after the fire and then five years later, you and your sisters pop up playing gigs in New York with the Lahey kid, Vernon Boyd’s son and Erica Reyes and since you hit the big times, you’ve been entirely responsible for provisioning this town with 90% of its salacious gossip.’
‘How did you know that? I mean, New York.’ Derek was completely bemused. They had started out small, playing tiny venues, still wary of being recognised. It had only been in the last couple of years that they’d made it big enough to be known internationally.
‘I kept track.’ The Sheriff replied. ‘The fact that you all pretty much disappeared overnight hit this town like a slap in the face. I called in a lot of favours.’ There was something in his voice though that had Derek frowning. ‘I had my reasons, son.’
Derek was about to ask him what those were exactly when Laura came barreling down the aisle.
‘There you are.’ She came up short when she saw who he was talking to. ‘Sheriff Stilinski?’
‘The one and only.’ The Sheriff tipped an invisible hat at her. ‘It’s good to see you, Laura. Derek and I were just catching up.’
‘Well, I have to steal him. Excuse us.’ Laura gave him a toothy grin that was not her usual smile and Derek wondered just what was happening. She caught his arm and practically dragged him away.
‘What the hell?’ he protested, trying to wriggle out of her iron grip.
‘Hunters.’ she hissed and Derek’s blood ran cold.
‘Are you sure?’ he asked and she nodded, her face grim.
‘The others are doing the check out.’ she said. ‘We need to go.’
-
Stiles parked on the kerb and got out. Claudia already had the front door open and was looking down the street.
‘Visitor.’ she announced and went inside, leaving him to stand and wait for the car to stop. He bounced in excitement, barely waiting for the driver to get out before grabbing her and squeezing her hard enough to make her squeak.
‘Lydia, my strawberry blonde goddess.’ He kissed her cheek soundly. ‘I was wondering when you’d show up.’
‘Stiles.’ Lydia had softened since high school, growing into her intellect and losing the hard veneer of extreme fashion that had been her armour in high school. She was still elegant, but the tan leather boots she wore under her long floral skirt were flat and her face was less determinedly made up, her hair a mass of loose fronds that framed her face. She was also as beautiful as she had always been but Stiles loved her for more than that. They had grown close in junior year when Jackson had moved to the UK and she’d been left bereft. Scott had been dating Kira that year and he’d had little time for Stiles so they’d drifted together and never really drifted apart, in spite of their physical distance. Now Scott and Kira were engaged, with Scott working for Deaton full time and Kira teaching martial arts with their first baby on the way and Stiles felt even more like he was lagging behind. Lydia kept him tied to Beacon Hills as much as his parents did.
‘So what are you doing here?’ He escorted her to the house. Lydia went in first, saying hello to Claudia as they went into the kitchen.
‘I have some news you might want to hear.’ she said, her eyes dancing.
‘’If it’s that the Hales are back, I already know.’ Stiles was smug when she pouted. He so seldom got one over on her so it was fun when he did.
‘Sorry.’ Claudia grinned at Lydia. ‘That was my fault.’
‘Dammit.’ Lydia folded her arms. ‘Well that may be, but I bet you don’t know that they’re going to be playing the Jungle tonight.’
‘No, that I did not know.’ Stiles was immediately hooked. He’d always wanted to go watch them, ever since they’d first popped back up on his radar after years of radio silence, courtesy of a discarded music magazine in the field office. He’d fantasised about meeting Derek’s eyes across a crowded venue but he knew that in reality, Derek probably didn’t even remember the boy he fucked in the back of his sister’s car and probably also had his pick of beautiful people to spend his time with. It hadn’t stopped him from following the band’s progress almost obsessively though.
He’d been distraught when Derek had gone, trying to find any trace of him online, but there had been nothing at all in the years just after the fire. Noah had been cagey about what he’d known and Stiles had been at a loose end, trying to fill in the gaps. When he’d rediscovered them, Stiles had followed them on every form of social media he could and tracked down every article about them. Derek still didn’t have any online presence apart from that and the music videos his band put out. Stiles had jealously hoarded every single tiny piece of information and downloaded every picture and video of him, seeing how handsome Derek had become, growing into himself in a way Stiles envied. He’d jerked off many a night, watching the stylised black and white videos that the Hale Pack 2.0 preferred. Derek was always dressed in black jeans and tight white t-shirts, the sleeves of his trademark leather jacket pushed up to his elbows and his broad hands drawing Stiles’ gaze in as he played his guitar, all precision and power that had Stiles breath coming short at the thought of them on him.
‘Danny told me this morning. He’s practically beside himself at getting them on his books at such short notice.’ Lydia smirked, knowing she had his full attention. Danny had made a ton of money in apps and bought his old stomping ground. It had had a makeover and was now a very stylish LGBTQ+ venue that he ruled along with Jackson as his partner in business and life, once he’d had his gay crisis while he was gone. Stiles knew from the Hales’ publicity that Laura was a lesbian and he was pretty sure Isaac, Erica and Boyd were involved in something that looked pretty polyamorous but Derek and Cora were notoriously private and there was never any suggestion as to who they might be seeing. It seemed the kind of place they would be playing.
‘Okay.’ He moved to the coffee maker, preparing for a long sit down. ‘Tell me everything.’

REVIEW
The Hate Project by Kris Ripper
The Love Study #2
Adored this Carina Adores romance! It had me smiling, caring, chuckling, and hoping for the best for two rather prickly characters. I will say that the story grew on me and I was not enamored at all by the end of the first chapter BUT by the end of the second chapter I was invested and wanted to know what would happen.
 What I liked:
* The slow build of the relationship
* That the two men were not “easy” to love from the first moment you met them
* The group of friends that go by a name that would be censored if I typed it in her…they are there for one another no matter what.
* Being able to read and understand this book without having read book one in the series first
* Stepping into a world that is not my own
* Oscar: anxiety plagued, quirky, caring, organized, interesting, a person that as explained helped me understand better someone I know.
* Jack: bright, cautious, caring, loves his grandmother, a person with potential that is tapped in this story.
* That both characters became more and more real as I read, I was invested in them and their HEA was something I truly wanted them to achieve.
* Evelyn: Jack’s grandmother is a character and oh so lovable!
* The way the hoarding aspect of the story was handled
* Finding out what “The Secret” was
* All of it really except…
 What I didn’t like:
* Having to say goodbye to the characters when the book ended…
Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin-Carina Adores for the ARC – This is my honest review.

  BOOK DESCRIPTION
This arrangement is either exactly what they need--or a total disaster
 Oscar is a grouch.
That’s a well-established fact among his tight-knit friend group, and they love him anyway.
 Jack is an ass.
Jack, who’s always ready with a sly insult, who can’t have a conversation without arguing, and who Oscar may or may not have hooked up with on a strict no-commitment, one-time-only basis. Even if it was extremely hot.
Together, they’re a bickering, combative mess.
When Oscar is fired (answering phones is not for the anxiety-ridden), he somehow ends up working for Jack. Maybe while cleaning out Jack’s grandmother’s house they can stop fighting long enough to turn a one-night stand into a frenemies-with-benefits situation.
The house is an archaeological dig of love and dysfunction, and while Oscar thought he was prepared, he wasn’t. It’s impossible to delve so deeply into someone’s past without coming to understand them at least a little, but Oscar has boundaries for a reason—even if sometimes Jack makes him want to break them all down.
After all, hating Jack is less of a risk than loving him…

   EXCERPT
I’d never had friends until college. And even then, I wouldn’t have had friends except that Ronnie and I were freshman year roommates (before she transitioned, obviously), and she was friends with Dec and Mase and Mia, and they came around a lot and just sort of looped me in. It happened slowly over that first year and suddenly I had…friends.
What’s that thing with snake poison, where you take it in small doses every day to grow your immunity to it? That’s what happened with the Motherfuckers. Eventually I built up a tolerance to their, like, happiness and friendliness and optimism. Now my brain just recognizes them as a part of me. The same thing probably happened to them: eventually they built up a tolerance to my moods and freak-outs.
The most important thing you need to know about my friends is that they’re all way better people than I am. You can tell because they threw me a pity party. There’s the aforementioned Declan and Sidney, who got together during the commission of a video series called The Love Study on Sidney’s YouTube channel. Then there’s Mia and Ronnie, disgustingly married to each other. And the last of the official Motherfuckers is Mason, who once tried to get married (to Dec) and was left at the altar (by Dec). Which was awkward for a while, but now it’s fine. Though of all of us Mase is the one who wants a white picket fence and 2.5 kids.
Sounds fucking awful to me, but to each his own, I don’t judge, whatever floats your life raft, et cetera.
Since I didn’t want to get my impotent rage-slash-panic germs on anyone, I took up a seat in the corner and didn’t leave it except to use the bathroom and acquire victuals. By which I mean vegan, gluten-free, cauliflower-based pizza that turned out to be delicious. It used to be that my friends had an informal rotation for who’d sit with me, trading off for the duration of the social event, but that was before Jack. Jack was new to the group. Dec had collected him from work, and for reasons I didn’t understand (I would have suspected sexual favors if I didn’t know better), he kept mostly showing up to drinks with the Motherfuckers. And was now also on the invite list for ad hoc gatherings to celebrate catastrophic job loss.
Jack and I had no other setting with each other than arguing. Since neither of us was all that nice (and everyone else in the Motherfuckers was very nice), it worked out. He thinks he knows everything, I definitely know everything, and even though for the most part we would arrive at the same point from different angles, we spent most of our fights poking at each other’s angles to prove they were incorrect.
I probably shouldn’t have been surprised when it turned out bickering was actually foreplay.
Since the party was in my honor I was obligated to stay through dinner, and I did. In my corner. Weathering the well-intended reassurances of my friends was hard enough, but when Dec brought out one of those quirky adult card games where kittens exploded I had to get the hell out of there. Too much goodness on a bad day.
Jack apparently had a similar thought. It wasn’t the first time we’d made our escape at the same moment. This time, instead of parting ways on the sidewalk with a lukewarm we know each other through friends wave, both of us stopped.
He stopped a second before I did, which I immediately decided made him more desperate. It wasn’t charitable, but I believe in keeping track of who has the advantage in any encounter. Even a one-off.
“I live ten minutes away,” he said.
“Good for you.”
His lips twisted a little, from not-smile to not-impressed. “This is a pity fuck, Oscar. Take it or leave it.” With that he turned and made for a black two-door something-something on the other side of the street.
I hesitated. For about five seconds. But following up a pity party with a pity fuck sounded about right. “Just to clarify,” I called as I caught up with him, “I don’t do relationships.”
He hit a button that unlocked his car. “Just to clarify, I’m not offering one.”

SMUT BOMB: APRIL 2020
Honestly, I’ve been creatively stuck for a while. It was getting hard to write fanfiction and feel satisfied with the end product. And in an effort to get myself hyped, I decided to create this thing called a “SMUT BOMB”. Basically, I made it my mission to write at least 5 brand new fics and then drop them ALL on Ao3 at the same time.
This ended up being so much fun to do that I want to try to do this every month. Considering the fact that I was able to finish this first one before the end of April, I hope to do it again in May. Of course, we’ll see what happens. I’m very flaky when it comes to finishing things. But for now, it’s fun.
Enjoy!

My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: adam and declan would make a good team, i love him and opal bc it’s all very cute and pure, him and chainsaw is very adorable too, i like his friendship with the crying club and i hope that gets developed more
My unpopular opinion about this character: didn’t like that he went back to his parental home even though i understand maggie’s explanation for why he did ajshdjd (also he has freckles and brown eyes in my headcanon)
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: that the homie goes to therapy ajsdhjsd like honestly, i said this before but you cannot undergo years of abuse and be perfectly okay after. like he obviously has some deep lying trauma’s and self-worth issues and he would benefit from seeking out a therapist!
Favorite friendship for this character: him and blue i think after the relationship stuff happened or him and persephone
My crossover ship: thought about this for a long time but i’ve come up with kaz and inej from soc (they would both do well), piper from hoo, i think alex from ninth house?, friendshipwise him and penny from carry on???? honestly that’s all i can come up with but i hope it suffices ajshdsjd

Adam Parrish stood on the front porch, fully wet from head to toe. His dusty hair soaked and sticking to his forehead, a few strands of it poking his eyes. Ronan tucked the loose strands away from Adam's eyes and Adam stared at him, before Ronan realized what he was doing and pulled away.
Neil had just come face to face with Andrew Minyard himself, three years after he'd broken up with Neil because they wouldn't make it anyway. Because what they had was nothing, too little to mean something to Andrew and too much to mean to Neil.
A story about learning to love, again.

6. Darling, don't let my love slip.
Fandom: Raven Cycle-Maggie Stiefvater

Ronan had decided to leave Henrietta after Aglionby had ended to join his mother in Ireland as Aurora had decided to move there a few years back after Niall's death. The Lynch family owned a large property and from what Adam had heard, Aurora now owned a large farming business. Ronan had never been one for colleges and degrees and jobs, so Adam really wasn't surprised when Ronan had told him. And anyways, the farmer lifestyle suited Ronan more, with cows and crops. Adam had seen him tend to his secret garden patch as if the plants were little children. It was not the fact that Ronan was leaving, Adam would never stop him; loving him or him from leaving.
It was just the fact that he was heartbroken.
Because he had been falling for Ronan Lynch, and now his love was slipping away.

"Fuck Parrish, we don't have mistletoe to kiss under", Ronan replied and grinned.

Fandom: Raven Cycle-Maggie Stiefvater
Word count: 57k+
Summary:
Eight years, it has been eight long years since that one trip to Manali and that break-up that left both Adam Parrish and Ronan Lynch in search of something they didn't know they already had. For Ronan, choosing between breaking his own heart and Adam's dreams, it wasn't much of a choice. For Adam, choosing between his dreams and dreamer, it wasn't much of a choice either.
It has been eight years and now Blue and Gansey are getting married at Ronan's farms in Ireland and the gang is getting together for one intimate wedding of their best friends and Adam is here, to everybody's surprise. feelings and wounds resurface as Adam and Ronan revolve in each other's orbits again.
Do you chase your dreams or do you chase love? What happens when both of them clash and collide? Sometimes, for your heart, you let them.

9. What are these fates that we share?
Fandom: Raven Cycle-Maggie Stiefvater
Word count: 35k+
Summary:
Fifteen years later, the Parrish-Lynch and Minyard-Josten household is thriving and happy as Adam-Ronan and Noah & Neil-Andrew and Henry live through everyday life. Little do they know, it's a small world and about to get smaller as their lives run into each other. Don't worry, it's all good.
In all honesty, Noah Parrish-Lynch and Henry Minyard-Josten shouldn't be friends, Noah is loud, bright and a big nerd while Henry is quiet, not as bright and not as much as a nerd (ew). Noah is scared of losing people so he pulls them closer, Henry is scared of losing people so he pushes them away. Their friendship has a rocky start and Henry hates Noah, right? So then why does pushing Noah away feel different? Noah thinks Henry doesn't care about him, but is that really the case? What happens when feelings get involved?
We'll just find out. (So will everybody).

10. All this time you were mine.
Fandom: Raven Cycle-Maggie Stiefvater
Word count: 33k+
Summary:
What happens when a very frustrated and not to mention, recently broken up Ronan Lynch steals his car and drives off in an unfamiliar city and ends up at Hollywood Boulevard? He meets Adam Parrish, of course. Ronan Lynch is not somebody who engages in a night of casual sex but there is something different about Adam Parrish that he cannot resist. Little does he know that there is more to Adam Parrish than what meets the eye.
Adam Parrish is what he describes himself as- A runway hooker with big dreams of learning everything about art. What happens when a runaway hooker meets wealthy but an asshole Ronan Lynch? He gets into his car, of course. Little does he know that his life is about to get just a bit interesting. A lot interesting actually.
A night of casual something turns into a week of a whirlwind of emotions, a lot of fashion and art, of course. What happens when they go their separate ways after their week, their deal, Ronan's business trip ends? Sometimes we don't know what we want is already ours.

Completion status: Complete
11. Why does it have to end with you?
Fandom: Raven Cycle-Maggie Stiefvater
Word count: 26k+
Summary:
Everything is a story. So is this. This is a story about magic, ancient energies and folklore and about the people who are tangled with the same. This is a story about ley lines and the people tied to them. About cyclus corvorum. The cycle of the ravens. When the magic slumbers to rejuvenate and replenish itself so it can run anew.
It had been twelve years. Since Ronan and Adam parted ways, not circling around each other's orbit anymore. Ronan is content with his life at the Barns with an honorary roommate named Henry Cheng. He isn't necessarily the happiest, but life has been good. From what he knows, Adam Parrish is an architect living his charmed life in Ireland. Ronan seemingly doesn't care, or so he thinks.
But what happens when he finds out about the phenomenon of the Cycle of the Ravens? What happens when he finds out that Adam has strayed too far away? What happens when Adam goes a little too far away from what was once home? Ronan races against time to save what was once his before it gets taken away for good.
Sometimes you know the answers, but you don't ask the right questions. This is a story about asking the right questions.

Fandom: All For The Game-Nora Sakavic

Eight years after the world found out about Nathaniel Wesninski, he disappeared from it, leaving no traces behind. Some said he couldn't be found, some said he died. But what remained in the ashes was Neil Josten. Or as the world knew him, Nicholas John.
Eight years ago, Andrew Minyard felt the pang of loneliness for the first time in his left when the only boy that made him feel left him. He moved on, or at least tried to. If only he could know how to forget him. So he moved on, and Alan James Martin was born.

When a meeting is scheduled for professional work, neither know that they're about to uncover the ghosts of their past. When Neil discovers what Andrew's life has become, he can't help but think about the life he's missed out on. When Andrew discovers that Neil is back, alive and well, he realises that some feelings were not quite gone. Griffin just wants Andrew to be happy.
Some things rarely fall into place easily, especially when it's the cracked pieces of your heart.

What are the important bisexual characters that you said helped you? I am having a hard time finding good bi representation in which they aren’t considered promiscuous or unstable
Hiya anon ! What a quality question, thank you ! Here’s another mini essay about bi rep lmao.  If there are some that I forgot please tell me ! And to everyone, tell me about the bi characters who made an impact on your life, I’d love to know !!!!
Okay so.
-  When I answered the anon and talked about the characters that helped me come to terms with my sexuality, I talked about two in particular. Jack Harkness from Torchwood is depicted as very promiscuous, and somewhat instable. He still meant a lot to me because a) him sleeping around was never that much of a problem, it was because he was from the future, where things were different, which I thought was refreshing and b) his instability was because of the weight of being an immortal hero. Also fanon!Dean Winchester from SPN, as an older, more macho, emotionally witholding, badass dude written as bi meant a lot to me, but he doesn’t really avoid that stereotype either. But at least they were heroes.  However, I can understand wanting bi characters that actually don’t fit that stereotype, because bi people irl aren’t all like that, even if there is nothing wrong per se about sleeping with a lot of different people, or having mental issues to struggle with. And that was a while ago and now we have more and more cool characters ! Such as :
- Rosa Diaz from Brooklyn Nine-Nine. One of the best portrayals of bisexuality on TV imho. She didn’t start out as bi, she was this tough, cool, scary but with a heart of gold cop who had a lot of other plotlines before. But then, since they saw that a lot of wlw got this vibe from her, were really into her, and the actress came out as bi herself, they decided to use this. So it was super organic, and the way they introduced the subject was true to Rosa herself ; she’s a super private person, she doesn’t like anybody knowing about her life (it’s actually a running joke and Rosa Diaz has been implied to not even be her real name). But then she is dating a woman, and struggles with her parents not understanding and her coworkers find out, help her and support her. Her gay captain is there for her in his typical stoic but hilarious way. They organize game night with her when her parents won’t anymore. We see her crushing on women and dating, but it is treated exactly as the other character’s love life, they never make a big deal out of it. She isn’t the token queer character. She says outright she is bisexual and there is a specific point about her mom not understanding it’s not a phase and thinking she’ll end up with a man anyway, which #relatable. The focus is on the team as found family. Also right now she’s dating a butch woman, which is awesome since they are so underrepresented on TV and I hope we see more of her. That show really is my comfort show, it’s still bloodly hilarious and it really transcends the format to say some really deep woke stuff too, but never in a way that feels on the nose. Everyone should watch it tbh.
- Korrasami ! Oh my god, I was so blown away when they got together. They’re two characters from the animated series Legend of Korra, they start out as rivals in love who have feelings for the same guy, but as they have to fight baddies together, they become bestest of friends, and both fall out of love with the guy. Then in season 3 and 4, their relationship becomes central to the show, as Asami stands by Korra through some really tough shit. Also, they’re both ultra badass and fight really well together. A lot of fans started reading their chemistry as romantic, but we’d never thought they’d actually go there. But the show ends with them walking into the ‘sunset’ (well, the spirit lands) together, holding hands. Now, it was never completely explicit on the show BUT they were dealing with a lot of censure from the networks and you have to be willingly obtuse not to read it as romantic. And after that the creators drew them on dates, and there is a comic series in which they are shown kissing, talking about their feelings, introducing each other to their families, etc. It made me feel so validated when it happened, and I just adore the whole ‘love triangle ditches the middle one and fall in gay love with each other’ trope. (is it a trope yet ? it should be.) It’s still a kids show at its core, but it has amazing depth and deals with some very deep shit. Korra starts off as a bit annoying but she has a really cool development, she’s a girl character we need more of - brave, dynamic but also brash and reckless and action driven in ways that are almost always exclusively shown for boys. And Asami is a more typical girly girl but she’s also a brilliant engineer and has a spine of steel and she’s also very slyly funny. They’re amazing. And the comics are super cute.
- Now there are a lot of characters who are bi/pan that I love, and are good characters in themselves, but their arcs do intersect in some ways with promiscuity and mental instability. I’m thinking about Even from Skam and all his remake variants, Magnus Bane from Shadowhunters, several characters from Black Sails, Sarah Lance and Constantine from Legends of Tomorrow, Eleanor Shellstrop from the Good Place, Bo from Lost Girl, Ilana from Broad City, Joe McMillan from Halt and Catch Fire, God/Chuck from Supernatural (lmaooooo), several characters on Penny Dreadful, or in a totally different category, Vilanelle from Killing Eve or Hannibal from the series (who are hella bad guys but it’s never linked to their sexuality, and are also incredibly compelling to watch.)
And even though these characters taken individually, I would argue, are good rep because they’re complex and layered and interesting and never one-dimensional (and watching them feels incredibly empowering at times)....it’s still a trend. I feel like when writing a character that is attracted to multiple genders, there is always this sort of...tangle of tropes that writers default to, unconsciously. Some negative and some positive. It used to be this trope of bis being villainous, instable, jealous, flaky, immature, perverted, manipulative, cheaters, amoral, greey, etc...and then it evolved into something of a reclaiming and subverting this trope. So now you feel like the Bi Character kind of has to be badass, glamorous, seductive, often superpowered or extraordinary in other ways.. And they also for multiple reasons (they’re immortal, they’re sensitive artist souls, they’re from the future, they’re psycho, they’re exccentric comic relief, they’re daring adventurers and pioneers) don’t care about social norms which allows them to sleep and fall in love with whomever. And so they tend to have those super busy romantic/sexual histories and very troubled backstories. In the past it was a bad thing, now it’s often presented as this positive, enlightened or at least fun and badass thing. They’re heroic, with big hearts, a tremendous lust for life and a cool rebellious attitude. They’re complex, dramatic, tortured. Which can be super cool, too.
But it would be nice to have more ‘normal’ bi characters. I mean, boring bisexuals need to see themselves represented too ! Our sexualities don’t give us super powers. At the same time, it is true that bisexual ppl have higher rates of mental illness, which deserves to be explored, but it would be nice if it was actually articulated and not just part of this trope.  But still. We need rep, I think, that is more grounded and varied. So I think that’s also why I read a lot of fanfic. (I was really into the idea of bi Steve Rogers for a long time, partly also because he’s both very mentally resilient, kinda boring in a good way, and very unexperienced in terms of sex/romance, which is pretty much the opposite of the trope)
- I think books, and YA in general, are a good place to find these ‘normal bis’ characters. I’m thinking in particular of Leah from Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli (from the same book series that gave us the ‘Love, Simon’ movie) which is a super sweet coming of age/romance story about a super normal teenager who just happens to be also into girls (esp her best friend) and is loud and funny and very lovable and has zero doubts about being bi. You also have Adam Parrish from the Raven Cycle, another one of my forever faves ; he has an abusive family so PTSD from that but it never feels tropey, and it’s completely detached from his sexuality. He has magic powers, too. But his character feels completely opposite to the trope. He’s hardworking, somewhat withholding, prickly (and sometimes awkward), ambitious, determined, down to earth, and has a beautiful love story with another boy. And also Jane, from Jane Unlimited by Kristin Cashore, also really cool ; she’s a nerdy, smart girl who is actually inspired by Jane Eyre who has cool adventures in a weird house where we can follow her on different paths depending on the choices she makes, several of which are love stories. And finally the main character from The Seven Husbands from Evelyn Hugo, kinda fits the trope yeahhh since she’s a super glam actress who well, has seven husbands but it’s a pretty clever deconstruction since it turns out (slight spoilers) that Evelyn is actually through most of her life faithful in heart to the same person and the rest is mostly out of necessity, and her story feels very real and raw and down to earth.
- I don’t go there yet but I really want to check out Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Schitt’s Creek which I have read have very good bi rep. And I want to catch up on Orphan Black (Cosima and Delphine both don’t have exact labels but they’re multi-gender attracted and they’re this cool couple of scientists in a relationship that gets a happy ending). I will never forgive what they did to Lexa so I stopped watching but I do think that Clarke Griffin from The 100 is very good bi rep. Alexia from Skam France, meanwhile, is a bit of a boundary case for me because, even though she’s presented as the ‘weird one’ from the group, very colorful and liberated and exccentric, she’s still a very normal teen who’s happy and comfortable in her own skin, which is awesome.
- Disclaimer, I included characters in here that are also pan/omnisexual or don’t have a label but are attracted to several genders, for the purpose of this discussion i don’t think the difference is all that relevant at least to me (i mostly identify as bi for the sake of simplicity but tbh i could also fit under pan so i feel represented by all those characters). But I understand the importance of characters that state their identities more clearly and with pride.
- So in conclusion : there is nothing wrong with having a sexually active life or struggling mentally (even tho that one is not fun). And I do love all my badass casanova time travelling super powered bis.
But we need more bi characters that don’t fit that trope. We need bi characters in children’s shows, or that don’t have more than one relationship, or that don’t have a relationship at all, to break the tendency to always show bisexual ppl as overly sexual. We need bi characters in committed relationships to break this idea that bi characters are bound to cheat or can’t be satisified with only one person. We need bi characters that are mentally stable and successful and happy, to show that it’s possible. We need bi characters that are boring, bookish, nerdy, ordinary, clumsy, not particularly seductive, socially awkward, rule-sticklers, etc...to show that bi people are not all party animals, or doing it for attention, or to be wild, rebellious and socially progressive. It’s just a sexuality, it doesn’t say anything about your personality. Even though there are some correlations with MI or being bi might bring you in contact with more progressive ideas and to see life a bit differently, there is nothing automatic about it.
- In conclusion, reading testimonies from real people also helped me a lot. It’s a very dated but I got the book “ Bi Any Other Name: Bisexual People Speak Out “ when I was struggling with my own sexuality and it helped a lot, to read that even back then (1991) you had all sorts of regular ppl claiming to be bi and that it was not a phase or a fad or whatever.

TRC: Road Map to Home
@ganseyweek Day 3: Road Trip on ao3
He let his mouth create the widest smile it could muster as he waited outside Adam’s dorm at Harvard.
His fingers tapped out the rhythm inside his head as the bright, Cambridge sun beat down on The Pig, making the orange paint glow more than usual.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
Tap. Tap.
Tap.
The forest part of his soul bubbled in excitement.
The car rocked for a moment before the slamming of the door.  Gansey grinned and turned his head towards the other passenger.
“So violent toward her.”
Adam rolled his eyes, smiling back, as he gripped the top of the door, “You look excited.”
The Pig roared to life as he turned the key, sputtering her exhaust to the wind, and shrugged his broad shoulders.
As they passed through the Harvard gates, he answered, “Why wouldn’t I be?  I’m going home with the people I love.”
--
As The Pig tumbled down Massachusetts' Route 20 and crossed into Connecticut, he belted out the lyrics of Helter Skelter as Adam cackled, nearly spitting his Coke onto the already sticky dashboard.
Adam snorted as he started the beginning of Penny Lane, “Gans, you suck. And how the hell did I forget you liked The Beatles when we hang out almost every day?”
Gansey snorted as he shoved his hand into the fast food bag to pull out fries, “Parrish, you insult the greatness that was the British Invasion.  Terribly rude of you.”
Adam unwrapped a burger and crunched the paper into a ball, “You’re lucky that you’re driving otherwise I would throw this at your head, Gansey. You’re that bad.”
--
After over six hours in the car, Adam reminded Gansey that despite having insomnia, he should stop at a motel or hotel and attempt to sleep for the night.
They ended up in a Holiday Inn Express in New York with Adam insisting on paying for himself. The room was small and smelled faintly of cheap air fresheners, but the beds were soft and comfortable. He trusted his friend when he said that Gansey would might be interested in the pancake machine.
Adam had long fallen asleep as it approached 2am, snoring quietly in the bed next to him. Gansey had paused in his required reading for History 1155, holding the book to his chest in the dim light.
He gripped his phone tightly in his left hand as it charged near the side table.  He glanced at the clock display: 1:58.
As if he willed it to happen, the phone buzzed and vibrated in his hand, and a wonderful young woman’s face appeared on screen, unruly hair covered in clips.
The caller ID simply read, ‘❤️❤️❤️.’
He slid off the bed, went into the small bathroom and played with the tiny bottles of soap and shampoo as he answered, “Jane.”
The other voice came through as clear as day, “Gansey. What are you reading about tonight?”
He smiled for the millionth time that day.
“What do you know about the Rise of Absolutism?”
--
The next day, they piled into the Camaro with Gansey’s intent of driving through Pennsylvania in one day. He promised Adam it should only take five hours, give or take to make it into Maryland.
Promises meant nothing to traffic jams, Pig Problems, and accidents, which held the young men up for an hour or two. Gansey wasn’t sure if he wanted to go to central Pennsylvania again.
When Adam suggested taking a detour to Gettysburg as a chance to stretch their legs, Gansey couldn’t be happier.
(Despite never being completely  interested in American History, he enjoyed his tour around Gettysburg and spent the night in a local Bed and Breakfast. He woke Adam early in the morning, bought himself a frappuccino and they went on their merry way.)
--
After making his way out of Gettysburg and driving another four hours, Gansey gladly pulled into the University of Virginia campus. His heart sung as he weaved through the academic buildings and dorms, eager to see another familiar face.
Knowing Blue’s course schedule by heart, he drove to the Environmental Thought and Practice Building. Adam raised a pale eyebrow at him as he parked the Camaro right in front of the main entrance.
“Don’t you think she’ll be angry?” He asked, throwing one of their coffee cups into their designated trash bag. It was nearly overflowing with fast food containers and soda bottles.
Gansey shrugged and stared longingly at the double doors. It would be any minute now. He tapped the steering wheel in rhythm.
Tap.
Tap. Tap.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
He and Adam craned their necks to watch the mass of students exit the building, trying to find her.  It took another twenty minutes before it did.
His heart burst when he finally saw her in the crowd that towered over her.
She hadn’t changed much in the months apart. Her hair was longer, but still full of colorful clips. Her shirts were still layered and artistically shredded, but not as excessive. It was still his Jane.
“Blue.”
“Well, look at y’all,” she smiled as she leaned on the open door window. “My own personal chauffeurs.”
As Adam got out of The Pig to let her in, she threw her colorful bag into the seat, her person following shortly after.
--
Gansey let out a sigh of relief as he pulled into the long, winding driveway that brought him to The Barns. He could feel Adam and Blue sigh and smile with him.
As always, The Barns didn’t change. They were homey and magical and all Lynch.
He brought The Pig to a gentle stop and the car protested, exhaust sputtering.
Gansey could feel the tension leave his body as he opened the door of his Camaro, leading the others in exiting the car and helping them unload the trunk.
Almost on cue, the front door of farmhouse slammed open. A streak of jet black flew from the door and a small body with blonde hair covered by a knit cap dashed immediately towards Adam, burying her head into his T-shirt.
Ronan Lynch came soon after to make his rounds.
Ronan kissed Adam on the lips, pulling him in an intimate embrace. He lovingly insulted Blue before pulling her into a noogie.
He then turned to his best friend, “Dick.”
“Ronan.”
The other boy’s mouth morphed into a wide grin and he pulled Gansey into a hug, tight and difficult to get out of.
That was okay, though. It was one of Gansey’s favorite things, that hug.
They were home.
