Who goes on a date with who at the Golden Saucer?

• After the Loveless performance that Genesis dragged them to, the sky wheel is giving out free rides to couples only, and Angeal will be damned if he lets them pass up something free.

Genesis: Come with me. It's not a big deal, it's just a gondola ride.

Sephiroth: Never. The idea of being publicly entwined with you romantically is nauseating.

Genesis: They're giving out free candy at the end.

*Sephiroth wraps an arm around him*

Sephiroth: Gay rights.

• Zack and Cloud go as buddies, but Zack is getting increasingly jealous at all the happy couples in line around them and feels left out.

Zack: Aww, that guy just kissed his girl on the cheek and held the gondola door open for her. Why don't you treat me like that?

Cloud: Because we're not dating??

Zack: So you're scared to commit. Coward.

Cloud: What about AERITH?

Zack: So you're scared of polycules. Coward.

• Angeal and Lazard have a nice time waiting in line together, making conversation about things they have in common. And then their turn to get on the gondola arrives.

Angeal: There's the nothing weird about this. We're just two colleagues riding the sky wheel together. Nothing romantic about it.

Lazard: I couldn't agree more.

*The door closes*

Angeal: I had no idea you felt this way about me.

Lazard: !?

• They have the opportunity to go again, so this time they all switch. Putting Zack and Genesis in the same gondola was a mistake.

Zack: I bet we can make this thing spin super fast!

Genesis: You're on!

• The Saucer police show up 10 minutes later to stop the ride because they were unscrewing the gondola from the wheel. Zack and Genesis are then banned from the sky wheel.

• Lazard tries his luck with Angeal again after Angeal assures him that he was only joking.

*They're waiting in line*

Angeal: When will you tell your wife about us?

*Everyone in line gasps and looks at them*

Lazard: THAT'S IT

*Lazard lunges at him and they have to be escorted out by security*

• Since everyone else in JAIL Cloud invites Sephiroth to come with him.

Cloud: I hope you understand that this is a normal, platonic activity.

Sephiroth: Absolutely.

Cloud: So you don't misinterpret my invitation as something more.

Sephiroth: Perish the thought.

*The gondola door closes*

Aerith says "shall we?" And holds out her hand on the Ferris wheel. Cloud takes it. She then pats the seat next to her as if to say "sit here". Cloud goes "uhh" and sits opposite.

The car shudders and Aerith falls into Cloud's arms and their faces are close. Intense staring like they'll kiss but they both let go and sit next to each other.

There were some fireworks and she starts opening up.

"You surprised me at first, you were just like him. Same clothes, the way you walked, the way you carried yourself. Whenever I looked at you...i saw him. But now I'm interested in you. I'm trying so hard to find you"

"I'm right here"

"Yeah you are but"

Long pause

"Hey did Tifa talk to you?"

Flashback to Tifa and Aerith talking

"Hey, Aerith, I talked to Cloud. He said he remembers Zack. How they were friends five years ago"

Back to the sky wheel

"I don't think so. At least not about anything important."

"oh."

Aerith comes close and wraps her hands around Cloud's arm and rests her head on his shoulder

"Aerith?"

"Just until the ride's over"

Cloud grabs her hand and holds it. They both smile and grip each other tight. Fireworks go off and the screen fades out.

CANON DATE FFVII REBIRTH (only for those who support Aerith) - no flames

I make this video below, took couple of days to finish it. I want to know if Tifa is canon, but no. AERITH is the one who is always canon.

Reason:

- FFVII Rebirth Ultimania, check it out guys! In Tifa section, the canon image showed they hugged NOT kiss. Also Nojima stated that not all dates have connection to canon story

- Rosa is always Aerith in Aerith, Barret, Red XIII, even Cid Cait Sith Vincent's date

- NPTK is for cloud. Regardless what Nojima or creator said, in NPTK Aerith date she looks at Cloud last time after singing to show that the song is for him. Why isnt she doing the same in other dates if NPTK is for all party members/plural?

- At Aerith's date NPTK song, she looks at cloud atleast 3 times. Other NPTK song, at the end she never looked at cloud and others. But cloud date is

- Her date is the only one whose connected to story after and only makes sense if they dated.

- The petals in NPTK flew, and only in her date it landed on Cloud

- Barret and Red XIII also mentioned about Aerith in their skywheel date. Many said that Barret talked about Tifa, but for Aerith it makes the most sense since hes going to lose her

- Rosa role is for Aerith, look at her staff and princess demeanor. Cait said that shes indomitable princess, the same phrase also in their costa del sol date

- No promises in LOVELESS is mirror to NPTK, makes no sense if Tifa and Yuffie is the one in it

- Alphreid protected Rosa is a mirror to Cloud and Aerith, no one else (he never protected Yuffie that way, also Tifa?) Also Rosa rescued Alphreid is a mirror to Clouds sentence: She rescue me, I rescue her, and on and on it goes or something like that

- Alphreid Cloud & Rosa Aerith is Jessie & Guy in Blue cape of loveless. See the hair resemblance?

friendship bracelets:

Zack makes them, obviously, because he’s a sentimental dork, and in Gongaga it’s considered a sign of great affection to give someone something like jewellery. I like to think there’s a Gongagan tradition/ holiday a bit like Valentine’s Day but it’s for showing appreciation to everyone. And on this day people swap hand made jewellery to signify their respect and love for a person.

Mostly Gongagan kids swap them, and it’s a big thing in school, but Adults do also observe the day with those closest to them -or someone who has done them a great service through the year!

Zack hasn’t really observed the holiday since he left home, but when he finally becomes FIRST he gets kind of sentimental and homesick for some reason. So he buys a bracelet making kit from a craft store and makes a bunch of bracelets for his fellow firsts and Cloud and Kunsel, he makes one for Aerith too!

Giving them to Kunsel is pretty easy. They’ve been friends for years and have talked a lot about Gongagan holidays before. Kunsel is pretty touched actually, and hugs Zack. It’s a nice little moment between them. Quality brotherly affection. Hense the reason the word “brother” is stamped on the bracelet.

Giving Cloud his is funny only because Cloud goes bright red in the face and stutters through accepting it. Zacks pretty smug throughout the entire encounter about making Cloud blush like that. But he’s also incredibly emotional when Cloud turns up at 12:00 PM the same night and pushes a bracelet into Zack’s hand. Zack hadn’t known what to stamp on Clouds “best friend” seemed too weak and and anything more then that felt presumptuous to the point of impertinence, considering he was still battling with how he felt about Cloud. In the end he’d gone with “legacy” which felt like a cop out but Cloud seemed to like it.

It’s only as he looks down at the word printed on his bracelet that he realises he needs to seriously get his act together with Cloud… the word that both brakes his heart and makes it soar “everything”.

Aerith is pretty happy with her bracelet, and as she does with most things, gives him a bunch of flowers for his efforts! He deliberated on what to put on hers too. “Girlfriend” made him feel guilty. He loves her, he does… but he knows, and she knows that they’re playing a game until Zack tells her about Cloud. Instead he stamps “soul” on hers because she will always know his soul better than anyone.

Giving Angeal his is nerve wracking because it makes Zack feel stupid. He knows Angeal wouldn’t make fun of his homes tradition, but still… in the end the worrying is for nothing. Zack gives Angeal the bracelet stamped “mentor” and Angeal is very touched and even a little emotional over it actually. He gives Zack a side hug and puts the bracelet on immediately.

Genesis is -if possible- even more nerve wracking, because Zacknis absolutely sure he’ll be made fun of. He positively shakes out of his skin giving the bracelet stamped “hero” to Genesis and for a second Gen does do his whole “shoot it down in flames” thing until he realises two things: 1. Zack had gone to extend a art lengths to match the colour red to Gens coat, and 2. he turns it over in his hand and runs his fingers over the letters stamped into soft leather.

Zack absolutely panics when Genesis starts to cry. Gens emotional sure, but Zacks never seen the man cry. Gen asks him “why would you spend time on this for me?” And Zack tells him the truth, “cause you are a hero Genesis, and I wanted you to know that people see you that way.”

Genesis is never taking the bracelet off. Ever.

Then the only person left to give a bracelet to is Sephiroth. It is exceptionally hard to pin the man down that day, and in the end Zack has to wait a week for him to come back from mission. And then it’s terrifying to hand it over.

What’s even more terrifying is that Sephiroth kind of stops breathing for a second when Zack gives it to him. He sits on the edge of his desk heavily and stares at the inscribed bracelet in his hand. Zack says his name at least three times before Seph responds to him. When he does it’s with a shaking “why?” And Zack can only hug him and whisper back “because you are,”

The stamp simply reads “best friend” but it’s enough to bring the great general sephiroth to his knees.

So, Chain of Memories was fun

Not exactly fun to play, but fun. Fun stuff

Ultimately, especially in the latter half/quarter of the story, the game goes above and beyond to stress how everything that Sora goes through ties back to Kairi, who is (understandably) presented as the key to his memories, but. *Elton John voice* it's a little bit funny that-

Naminé messes with Sora's memories so that "Me, Riku and Kairi" turns into "Me, Riku, Kairi and Naminé", then into "Me, Riku, and Naminé", and eventually into "Me and Naminé". Kairi is the first one to be "taken out" out his memories. (But Kairi now is also back home, safe. Which is possibly why the memories of her were modified first? No worries about her, easier access?)

Sora's reason for being in Castle Oblivion in the first place, though? For being so eager and desperate to keep going? The hook, line and sinker? Riku

(The person he promised to protect when he was little?

... ͡• ͡• )

Replica Riku really jumped into the game with the steel chair. Immediately he acts as a source of insight into the real Riku's feelings and insecurities, but funnily enough what he says is also kind of a meta comment on the whole game itself. Sora did come here for him... and then halfway through the game he loses sight of his primary objective to focus on Naminé (and by proxy, implicitly, on Kairi)

Kairi's function as a truly important person and as a light in the darkness carries over from KH1 into the end of CoM, after Marluxia & Co are defeated and Sora tells Naminé to restore his memories. And at the same time... ah

The beginning of the game, with yet another steel chair. And it's especially telling that this dialogue with Aerith and the one with Axel happen almost back to back...

... because at this point most of Sora's memories are intact: he remembers everyone, he doesn't think that he has have Naminé "in his heart", and he's perfectly conscious of why and for who he's here. Riku is presented as a truly important person and a light in the darkness as well. Directly in one case ("I'm the good fairy and I'm warning you to not lose your way"), indirectly in the other ("I'm the evil fairy and I'm inciting you to do just that").

Fun stuff :')

Somebody who's good at writing please write a ff7r crossover with KH. I need to see Sora interacting with Remake Cloud and wondering if his memory loss is a Castle Oblivion situation or a Rinzler situation.

First meeting just has him running past him after the reactor bombing, shouting as he sprints past "Hey Cloud, no time to talk saving people bye!" Cloud is confused because he has never seen this kid in his life and he's... running up walls, using water magic (he's never seen water materia what the hell) to put out fires, and doing his best to save people.

Cloud puts it out of his mind and leaves.

Sora catches up with him when he meets Aerith, and the Whispers take one look at him and decide that they Cannot have a Keyblade Wielder fucking up the timeline. Swarm him and just take the teenager away, leaving behind a very confused Cloud and Aerith.

I just think it'd be funny for Sora to be running around im the bg taking out Whispers and inevitably Heartless, talking to everybody he Knows and wondering why they don't remember him. Aerith is the exception, because spoilers, and he keeps asking where Leon is. Tifa is in the same situation as cloud, wondering why this teenager looks familiar and how he knows her. Yuffie tries to rob him only for him to insist he doesn't know what Materia is. He hands her some synthesis materials and she yells at him. He overhears Cloud say 'Sephiroth' once and goes full fight or flight, hair trigger, ready to beat his ass a third time.

However, if you do feel comfortable and tell him how you got it, he'd listen intently. He knows that sharing this can require a lot of courage and might be painful to talk about.

Even once he knows the full story behind it, he loves you just the same.

In private, he loves planting sweet kisses to your scarred cheeks.

Cloud may not always be the best at expressing his feelings with words, but he'll make sure of it to show it through his actions.

So when you're at the train cemetery and he immediately notices your demeanor change when Aerith and Tifa grabbed his arms, he comes up to you wanting to communicate with you about it.

Calmly asking about it and checking in with you to see if you're okay.

When you tell him that you had been feeling insecure when they grabbed his arms and how he probably thinks they're prettier than you.

At first, he's silent for a moment, processing your words. But that quickly changes. His usually stoic face melts away.

Reassures you that he has no feelings for Tifa and Aerith, and your scar doesn't change the way he sees you in the slightest.

It isn't easy for him to show his feelings, but Cloud loves you. And he finds every part of you absolutely breathtaking.

"..It's not often that I feel this way about just anyone, and I'm sorry if I'm not the best with words. But, do you realize what you do to me? You mean everything to me. And I mean that. It doesn't matter to me if you have scars or not, you are beautiful. Inside and out. Never forget that."

Why do you think SE celebrated other ff couples like Zidane and Garnet on ,for example, their website, but not Cloud and Tifa. In fact other ff couples have been confirmed as exactly that but not Cloud and Tifa. Why do you think that is?

Well, there are a bunch of ways to answer this since the question is very vague to me, so first I gotta ask: What makes you think Cloud and Tifa aren't celebrated?

FFIX is my favorite game of all time but I can't think of a single time where Garnet and Zidane got "celebrated". I'm sure you can find times if you go out and look, but the same goes for Cloud and Tifa. When I think about them I can remember countless times they got "celebrated" in a multitude of ways. For instance, we have SE consistently liking Cloti posts:

Or bringing up things like "words aren't the only thing that tell people what you're thinking".

Or giving them matching outfits:

Hell, I could argue that the very existence of Advent children is a "celebration" of Cloti, seeing as it was originally envisioned as just a short story about Cloud, Tifa, and the kids.

How is Traces of two pasts talking about how Tifa fell in love with Cloud not a celebration? How is "2,000 Gil Leading to a Hero" talking about Cloud wanting to become Tifas "special existence" not a celebration?

And this is ignoring of course that essentially the entire Remake has felt like a celebration of Cloud and Tifas romance to the point where it has been more central to the story than even the romance of Squall and Rinoa was in FFVIII. So when you say they're not celebrated, what do you mean? Do you mean that they're usually described as childhood friends in relationship charts and descriptions and the like when characters like Zidane and Garnet are not?

Because if so it makes me wonder why Zidane and Garnet are described as "important person" rather than "favors" (the same term often used to describe Tifa btw). It also makes me wonder why Beatrix and Steiner are merely described as "friendly", why Beatrix is described as "loyal to Brahne", and a bunch of different things. Fact is that often times these relationship charts merely describe the predominantly occurring relationship DYNAMIC during the story AS it is essential to the story, rather than exactly describing the nature of the relationships at the conclusion of the story for the sake of shippers. Which is why we have stuff like this:

Even though Wakka and Lulu literally end up raising a baby. This is also why the relationship chart for Advent Children only lists Aerith in relationship to Cloud as "sense of guilt", because while obviously Aerith is more than just an object of guilt, the fact that Cloud feels guilt towards her is what's actually important to understanding the events of the movie.

So when we have stuff like this it doesn't tell us that three girls favor Cloud, but Cloud doesn't favor any of them, or that all three girls are equal, or that the game doesn't confirm anything. It just means that the predominant dynamic we see played out in the story is of them favoring him. The actual objective confirmation of Clouds feelings then come from the myriad of quotes we have where it's stated that in the lifestream it is revealed that Cloud and Tifas feelings....are mutual. So even if it were the case that Garnet and Zidane were described as mutually favoring each other. That would not be something that's to be wondered at. Zidane and Garnets main dynamic right from the start is that of a girl and a boy who has a crush on her. It's neither a reveal not a change of dynamic, but what matters FOR THE STORY is that they're important to each other. With Cloud and Tifa the fact that Cloud has always been in love with her has historically always been presented as a twist, even in Rebirth while it's clear that Cloud is in love with Tifa the notion that this has gone on since childhood, along with the depth and the fact that it's the primary cause of Clouds internal strife, is still something of a reveal, and you generally avoid revealing important twists in books that essentially discus the state of a games story as it is during the game itself. The remake Ultimania doesn't spoil the exact nature of all the different Sephiroths, nor the exact nature of Aeriths knowledge, those are for part 3 to reveal. But even if none of that were true, and Square-enix absolutely refuses to "celebrate cloti", whatever that means, it is still kind of a moot point, because the unwillingness to explicitly confirm a ship is not the same as no ship being canon. The reason they might not want to be too explicit about any specific ship might simply be that they don't want to deprive people of the pleasure of having their own interpretations. That doesn't mean that things aren't canon. After all: " The staff has their own answers to all the scenes". A sentiment that is again reflected in the following interview.

A straight forward path has Cloud ending up with Tifa, and there are no branching paths here. The game allows you leeway to project your own feelings onto it, but it doesn't actually change the story. The developers have their own interpretation, and that's the interpretation that's guiding the story. If YOU want to believe Cloud actually loves Barret, you can, there is nothing or no one stopping you......but they'll never get a kiss. Additionally, if we are to agree with the premise that Cloud and Tifa (and by extension Cloud and Aerith) aren't celebrated, then there is a corollary question to yours that should be asked as well. If both ships are valid, then why aren't they just both celebrated? Rather than not celebrating either ship....why not celebrate both? Make it explicit that that his a "choose your own waifu" game and Cloud genuinely loves whichever girl you want. Quintessential quintuplets probably is the most famous anime "love war" of the last few years, and it has 5 women vying for the same man, with one unambiguous winner. And yet, rather than the other 4 not getting any "celebration" the 5 are almost always portrayed as equal, all 5 of them often even wearing bridal gowns.

So why not Cloti and Clerith? Why doesn't Square enix celebrate Cloud and Aerith by putting both Cloud and Tifa, AND Cloud and Aerith on some official Couple page? Or hell, I'll do you one simpler.....why doesn't Square-enix celebrate both Cloti and Clerith by giving BOTH an optional Kissing scene? Answer? Because they're not both valid, because this is not a game with branching paths, it's a game where you end up with Tifa, but has in the past given you leeway to project your own incorrect interpretations onto it. But the interpretations are still incorrect, even if not outright corrected. And when telling the story properly requires those incorrect interpretations to be overruled, they will be, as shown by the following quote by Nojima.

"in FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE, there will be much less room for player imagination. This fact will probably change the feel of the story considerably. People who know the original might not know quite how to take it. Such is the fear that I have. But I also have conviction. It should be possible to feel a much deeper connection to Cloud as you join alongside him"

He let you go. That was the first blow--that he let you go. They didn’t come rescue you in some big, bold, world-altering mission, guns and blades at the ready. He simply let you go in the right place at the right time, and you stumbled back into the group, dazed and bruised.

It wasn’t like they didn’t make a fuss over you. There were tears and smiles and hugs that made you wince. You were healed up, Aerith’s soft hands and soft smile did as much as they could.

But something in their eyes keeps all of your nerves on edge. It wasn’t anything overt, nothing you could call out bold and square and get to the bottom with no frills and fuss.

It was the way they didn’t quite meet your eyes when they spoke to you; the way that Aerith kept looking at you with a painfully concerned expression; the way that Cloud avoided you most of all.

Finally, the tension snaps and you spit out the question while you’re all sitting inside an abandoned tavern-turned-hideout-for-the-moment. “What did I do? Why are you all acting like this?” 

Everyone looks at each other until Aerith puts a hand on Cloud’s shoulder and approaches you. Tifa moves to stop her, and you almost hope she does--but she steps back, allowing Aerith to crouch in front of you. 

“You’re pregnant,” Aerith says, voice even and calm, even though her eyes betray a sense of worry and fear. You can’t blame her, but it hurts, all the same. 

You say nothing. What could you say? What should you say? 

She stares at you for a moment, until her eyes widen and it’s not until Cloud speaks that you realize why her expression changed. 

“You knew,” he says. “You knew you were pregnant this whole time.”

He turns around and leaves. No one goes after him. 

It’s even worse, after that--the avoidance. The soft words. The glances. The whispers at night that you can only get in snatches--what are they going to do with you? 

As you lie awake on your sleeping bag, his words echo in your head, and you can’t tell if you’re actually hearing them or if they’re just a memory.

“Do you think you can belong to anyone but me now?”

!!MAJOR REBIRTH SPOILERS!!

Okay, so I finally managed to calm down and spared some time thinking over the ending, I've come to make some conclusions (totally mo!):

1) There are definitely Aerith 0 and Sephiroth 0, probably from OG/AC timeline which know the whole story, and Sephiroth 0 is on the hunt for Aerith 0 who hides from him between worlds. Well, did hide since we saw in the Church scene that Sephiroth found her ("So that's where you've been hiding"). Sephiroth 0 knows that killing Aerith will only bring her to Lifestfeam and give her opportunity to interfere his plans again (same goes for alive Aerith), so his best option is probably to just keep her locked between worlds. Aerith 0 knows she can't hide from him forever so with last attempt before being caught she puts her last hopes into Cloud 1 (the Cloud from Remake timeline). Both Aerith 0 and Sephiroth 0 can obviously travel between worlds and in Aerith case (I suppose with help of Lifestteam) she can also move others between them (she dragged Zack into Cloud 1 reality and Biggs to Zack's and so on).

2) Cloud 1 isn't hallucinating or goes crazy in the end. He's the one present in two (at least) worlds at the same time, and as in one of them (my guess what we saw was OG timeline because we see but not hear Cloud says something and it's probably his famous lines "Aerith won't laugh again"). but then he sees Aerith calming him down with "Cloud, it's okay" which could be pointing at that Aerith 0 not only gave him her mageria but also told him what to do, so Cloud remembers that and calms down, because he now does really know what to do and how to save her. Remember last scene before he gets on Highwind and leaves Aerith? NO WAY Cloud would do that to any of his friends and especially to Aerith since we saw dozens scenes when he's worried for her in even light situations, not speaking of leaving the girl alone in the field lol. It's not even OOC for Cloud, it's just not him completely. which I believe also points that Cloud knows exactly what he sees and what he has to do (or maybe feels it, since Cloud 1 is not fully awaken yet). anyway this leads us to Marlene's words "only Cloud can save her". because only Cloud recieved those insights from Aerith and he is indeed the one who can save her;

3) As for the future which was left to us to guess for now... Well, along with all said above and taking in the fact that AC timeline is totally fckd up (where Sephiroth will just keep coming back again and again until there's no one left to stop him), and whole Remake point was to "Make things right", and with main themes of Remake - Hollow with its "I will never let you go again", and of Rebirth - NPTK with "We can be together forever evermore", my bet is on they're gonna mix all the realities including OG (as ai said, I think it's already happening in Aerith d-h scene), and come up with one whole new one where things settled in "right" way and no place left for any other timelines or else;

4) Aerith's fate... It's up to decide, I suppose. I believe Zack had high chance of survival since there's only one Zack for all timelines, but I'm afraid there's a high possibility that the only Aerith to live will be the original one, or rather her consciousness kept by Sephiroth between worlds. Also I see a possibility (of fanservice, additionally...) of leaving two Clouds: one in coma from Zack world, who might be left to live with those who he knows: Zack and Tifa, and Cloud 1 from Remake main timeline, who might leave with Aerith for their Promised Land he was searching so hard for in OG and AC. Or maybe I'm just scared to believe in NORMAL happy end with Aerith alive and happy in normal world. But I guess we'll see in 3 or 4 years on the last part of our journey...

I’m slowly inching my way forward in Rebirth, and I have to say I am actually really delighted with Cait Sith so far. It’s not like I know yet how he works in this canon, but still… lol I see you Reeve. “It feels good to do good”? Hanging his head in shame at the sight of the Avalanche wanted poster? Giving an impromptu lecture on the history of Corel Prison and lamenting that it’s not living up to its potential? I see you Reeve.

Also, Cait Sith is friggin adorable, singing a meow song to guests with his little Scottish voice and having to jump to reach elevator buttons.

Progressed a little further and OMG they showed us Reeve doing his thing. He appears to indeed be doing both genuinely joining Avalanche and spying for Shinra at the same time, if enjoying himself too much and showing too much of himself is anything to go by. Plus, Tseng is clearly aware of what he’s doing and went from him to Rufus to report on Aerith’s position… although it’s not clear yet whether anybody but Tseng knows this, and we DO know the Turks have some mixed feelings about lots of things, so it’ll be interesting to see where this goes. I’m pleased they managed to keep “Cait Sith invites himself to join the party” while also making it more plausible, ie he joined up by being aggressively helpful.

Also, everybody knows that Cait Sith is being controlled by somebody and is something resembling a robot, like without even questioning it. L O L. Of course, they lightly questioned him and he immediately jumped to I AM NOBODY IMPORTANT JUST A LOW LEVEL SHINRA EMPLOYEE WORKING A JOB DON’T WORRY ABOUT IT, so maybe they assumed he was an autonomous robot not unlike Chadley until that moment, who knows. The excess of magic and whimsy in Rebirth has made me realize that these people do indeed live in a world of magic that is sometimes very silly, they’re not gonna question the existence of a sentient magic cat robot person, it’ll only be a shock when they realize one of the Shinra directors was expressing himself by helping them and singing a silly meow song. And also reporting on their movement to Tseng, because if he doesn’t prove his loyalty to Rufus his job could be in danger. So what if he helps them a little too enthusiastically and has an absolute blast doing it?

(Hahahaaaaa my fanfic Reeve is much better at and more concerned with hiding this than canon Reeve, I can’t even tell if he’s actually hiding it from people who aren’t Tseng or not. He’s at least hiding it from his assistant, probably. Oh dear I knew I should have finished my fanfics before Rebirth, even though they aren’t supposed to be fully based on the remake trilogy I am definitely gonna feel obliged to do some rewrites.)

(It does please me to note that there is so far zero reason to see Cait Sith as a separate person from Reeve, very clearly he just basically is Reeve, and we were also shown that he was using his computer to photoshop the wanted posters at a time he also should be actively controlling Cait Sith. Yayyyyy headcanon accurate so far!)

It really does delight me that Reeve is having way too much fun doing this. Of course he is, the man’s horribly repressed.

And Cait Sith is indeed fun to play!

Look, there has been so much else incredibly good and fun and interesting about Rebirth, but Reeve is, still, my favorite, and he’s undoubtedly not as common to talk about as, say, Zack, so I am just gonna commit to being a person who just rambles about Reeve on tumblr periodically because I love him.

I’m just at the desert sidequests section after completing all the Good Saucer/Corel Prison plot—fantastic job with Barret’s character development, by the way—and I am so psyched for the 1000% more Reeve content this game is bestowing upon me. I’m just gonna state for the record real quick that as of right now, I think:

-he controls Cait Sith with his mind, with a magic ability, and Cait Sith is also largely a robot

-he is playing both sides, attempting to mitigate his guilt and the evil things Shinra does by helping Avalanche, while also passing information on them to Tseng (who passes it on to Rufus) probably to prove his loyalty and keep his position

-I haven’t totally decided whether this was all his own idea or if somebody told him to go spy on them, but he is clearly way too into the Join Avalanche part of the plan and is going above and beyond on his own initiative

-because we were directly shown Tseng’s involvement, if the Marlene kidnapping happens, I think it will 100% be something Tseng sets up as insurance. It wouldn’t be Reeve’s idea, not with how sympathetic he is towards Avalanche, and Tseng has some history there and knows where Marlene is and how much she means to them.

Okay, I suspect I started repeating myself at a few points in there so I’m gonna stop. Prepare yourselves for me to just lose my mind and ramble every time Cait Sith and/or Reeve do anything remotely important.

Hello. in the OG, did Cloud ever goes wreck over Aerith's death after his mind was fixed? I dunno because CA keep saying this thing.

You mean does he have a breakdown? No. He's fine. He kills Sephiroth and is happy to start his new life with Tifa. He's enthusiastic about helping out and rebuilding the bar and even makes sure Barret's commands to the builders aren't causing a problem. He follows behind whispering corrections 🤣

Once the bar is built he helps out until he starts taking deliveries, and then he gets a bike and Tifa suggests he make a business out of it.

That goes on for about 18 months until Elmyra makes him take a bouquet to the forgotten city and he starts getting depressed and guilty for being happy while other people are dead. Then he finds Denzel and that acts as a crutch to help him pull himself together. He starts confiding in Tifa again, but that same night he contracts geostigma and instead of telling Tifa, he runs away and becomes a hobo living at the church because of its healing properties in the flowers and water running under the foundations.

That goes on for about 7-10 days and then AC happens, which takes place over 3 days and then he goes home the evening of the third day with Tifa all happy again.
