im not even GOOD at the fucking game like probably i suck Ass at it actually. i havent watched anyone play it so i cant say for sure but jesus fucking christ i am dying a lot and my coordination is like. not even NEARLY good enough for these fucking climbing & air navigation combo moves. im talking like, “i just retried probably 20 times to get across some fucking long spiky hole in greenpath and then had to just decide it was time to give up and go to bed bc i couldnt get it to work” bad. but somehow i also think that fucking. intensifies the hyperfixation, purely because I am also stubborn as a Bitch and if theres so much as a glimmer of hope for getting the thing to work I am GOING to do it if it so takes me several Hours. difficulty fuels determination through stubbornness and then that determination fuels the hyperfixation. but anyway yea i suck at the game and it scares me to death. unashamedly

fuck it games i played update post
tonight was just Chicory? i think? yeah
i wanted to play mc as well but i got so into chicory that i didnt have time
anyway spoilers for Chicory under cut
(also storytime and screenshots; at the end a little analysis about parallels between chicory and hollow knight)
ok so screenshots first(there's a lot of them)
Tumblr media
ok so first of all i managed to diagnose the bug that made it so my cursor would randomly snap to the bottom-right for a single frame. playing in windowed mode seems to solve it. not ideal, but at least drawing isnt as frustrating
Tumblr media
^ thanks for the reddit gold trash kind stranger!
Tumblr media
^ hullo! ^-^
Tumblr media
^ it's shit but i wanted to show off the holey design i made
Tumblr media
^ the facial expressions of everyone lmao
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ still dont really know who the vandal is. anyway butts ehehe
Tumblr media
^ I'm sorry but Nintendon't won't show mercy for that
Tumblr media
^ her face expression (again) lmao
Tumblr media
^ ace icon? or gay icon? queer icon nonetheless (yes that there is a very crude attempt at drawing little ghost)

Tumblr media
^ POTATO
Tumblr media
^ Horn't shirt
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ ok fuck you game given the tools given and my skill level im actually kinda proud of what i managed to do fuck you (<2)
Tumblr media
^ I forgot to make screenshots with the other lines related to this but... fuck i relate to chicory so much. The impostor syndrome. the self-hatred. except that im actually shit compared to what she canonically does but like. That only made what she did to Cupcake (idk i named my character like that. They asked for food it's not my fault) hit even harder on me. I am talentless. I do have no experience. But fuck you (<2) for being so relatable to me specifically and for making me see myself in both characters
Tumblr media
^ why, hello there
Ok now i shorter analysis of connections between Chicory and Hollow Knight (maybe also Celeste?) cause it's 1AM and I'm kinda tired
(spoilers for both games)
(also have in mind that i still havent finished chicory)
Ok i first of all find really interesting the theme and the title of both chicory and hk. The title represents a character. Not hte playable character like in other games, but the final Boss, or at least the (apparent) source of Bad in the world. Granted i do no know for sure the final boss of chicory. and technically hk isnt the final boss of hk. I wouldnt be surprised if the final boss in chicory is my own depression. But that's beside the point.
Both characters, Chicory and Hollow, were left with immense responsibilities upon their shoulders. And both of them failed due to mental roadblocks. Because there was nobody to help them. Because they were supposed to be the best. And while they were extremely skilled, they became their own enemy. This caused in both cases, Corruption. Now, in one case it's the manifestation of a literal god that acts like a hivemind. In the other it's the negative thoughts of someone wielding a tool with pretty much godly powers. Same thing really.
Moreover, this Corruption manifests itself onto the entire land (we do not take into account the exceptions in HK and the possible exceptions in Ch. once again, i havent finished the latter). And it is in the hands of the player, representing somebody that was cast out, rejected by the ones they looked up to, but in the end becoming the best out of everyone, to fix it all.
The point is i dont know. But im excited to see how the plot of Ch unfolds
(also the idea i had about celeste was how Madeline and Chicory are in similar situations with their mental health. But unlike Madeline, Chicory does not accept any outside help, nor does she seek help herself (at least not yet)) (yeah this idea has even less sense now. disregard it if you will)

okay so. im like. idk ANY music theory. like. at all apart from when i played the piano for a couple years when i was like 7. so. this is definitely the ramblings of a guy who is being very autistic about bug video game. and nothing more. (and also has been done before i am purely doing this for @exnihilo-comic bc they asked me on my thoughts) BUT. i am sooooo fucking insane about the hollow knight ost. (LONGGGG post below the cut)
SO LIKE. theres OBVIOSULY the like. main theme yknow. thats in enter hallownest and the title screen song. the one that goes likeeee errr. (wait i gotta look up smth rq)
OKAY SO THERES THIS. (just taken from here) :
Tumblr media
anddd theres this :
Tumblr media Tumblr media
WHICH is like. yknow. the whole Big leitmotif of. Everything. BUT. the thing is. i was wondering which songs specifically it is in. bc like. im hoping its not just. hallownest’s motif. and more for smth specifically. BUT YEA. so so far theres obviously the title screen and enter hallownest (which is the trailer music im p sure ?)(ok yea it was the ferocious foes trailer music). BUT. im gonna go thru all the songs n see which ones have this in (i will not be accurate as im going by ear since errrrr. im not the best at reading sheet music)
okay well dirtmouth (taken from here) IMMEDIATELY has the theme in it (with the bit in red missing)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it is clearly slower n in a dif key but like. the same theme
and pretty much most of the melody of dirtmouth is like. essentially this same theme. just a loaddd slower. and in a dif key. im not gonna screenshot each comparison and try to pinpoint each difference bc. like ive said, idk music theory. i just like video game osts.
okay so crossroads is a little more difficult but to me it sounds like it possibly has the same chord progression ? but i may be speaking out my arse so someone who actually knows what theyre talking abt could draw comparisons.
altho i DO want to talk abt the crossroads track. this is the part where i start bullshitting FULLY. so like smth i LOVE abt it is how very drawn out each note is. like it sets the scene of hk PERFECTLY. its like. the track feels a lot more loose ? i suppose ? than the other songs you wouldve heard by now. which ig feels like it rlly shows how sorta. abandoned and like. i mean “forgotten” the “forgotten” crossroads rlly r. like they have no sorta form left but its clear that crossroads was once a place w a lot more life in it besides the handful of npcs u meet there (well like. yknow. uninfected life). but the one thing abt the crossroads track is that it sounds. calm yknow. which does reflect the crossroads compared 2 the other locations. the enemies there r simple enough to defeat and theres plenty of safe spots. its right under dirtmouth so its (before its infected) the safest area a player will explore for a whileeee. anyways ye the crossroads track is cool.
okay w the false knight battle theme i wasnt RLLY gonna say anything abt it BUT. it does actually have the main theme in it.
(link)
Tumblr media
sooo yea so far the only connection ive made is Almost Every Song Has This Theme In It.
oh also in the false knight theme there is this ONE bit that sounded a little like the very beginning of the mantis lords theme to me but idk theyre not the CLOSEST just similar.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
anyways next song: greenpath. so i THINK its happened again and THE WHOLE BIG LEITMOTIF IS ONCE AGAIN HERE.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
like dirtmouth it is slower and in a different key but thats definitely it. which honestly was unexpected i didnt think it was in any area music. so once again, i think this is in literally almost EVERY track so thats making me more wonder abt the tracks its NOT in. but ill come to that later maybe. what i do want to know is if theres anything else in greenpaths track thats in another song. what im thinking is perhaps therell be a similarity between greenpath and hornets battle music ?
okay this sorta call and response thing here is interesting to me because it sounds veryyyy familiar to me. (everytime i have heard it tho it just sounds like either hornets voice at some point or when sly says gibolen mas sooo take this as u will. i am however listening 2 a couple of hornets lines and the closest i think there is is when she says la fe nuva nido or whatever that gibberish is) anyways the call and response interests me.
Tumblr media
anyways more abt greenpaths song in general terms, i do love how this one feels a lot more full of life than crossroads, because crossroads felt very barren w the blue and the brick(?) whereas greenpath is full of life, just in the sense of scenery. its (obviously) a lot greener and full of plant life which already feels loads more alive. and the enemies there also arent simply just husks (AND EVIL SAP MONSTERS) theres like. theres moss creatures and fucking squits and those shooty wall things and just a whole lot more life, and that is reflected very well in the track bc it sounds a lot more full and like it has actual emotion. and even the battle theme (like where u fight the moss knight) is a lotttt more emotional and tense than crossroads’ - which feels a lot more like just sorta. primal fear what with a beat that sounds almost like a heartbeat and the repetitive drums. but greenpaths battle theme is a LOT more lively and dance-like and it has DEPTH. idk i thinkkk im rambling a little but i do love greenpaths contrast with crossroads
OKAY. hornets battle theme. smth obviously noticed a lot before is her theme is comprised of only string instruments (yknow bc. shes a spider n uses a needle and will star in SILKsong so like. yeah. string) ONCE AGAIN. the main motif is in this song surprise surprise. (link)
Tumblr media
altho smth interesting abt it is how it changes depending on which half of the theme is playing. for the first half the er. whatever u call the top bit i forgot. is playing it (and im prettyyy sure its a violin or viola or smth similar). but then it switches to the er. bottom line. and is played by a perhaps cello ??? smth lower than the first instrument. and different. which i think is a nice little thing AND is similar to the call and response from greenpath.
thats p much all i can say in terms of “technical” stuff BUT. in terms of vibes. I love how perfect this is for hornets fight. it definitely reflects how shes a lot more agile than the false knight and depends less on pure strength and more on her movement in the arena. i love how very fast paced it is AND HOW HAPPY IT IS. it is a VERY happy piece because hornet is ENJOYING HERSELF. bc yes her and ghost r fighting but she never wants to HURT it (even if i DIED to her like. a million times.) and WE never hurt her, we just beat her (and if ur a speedrunner, bully her in a corner) but she laughs during the fight, she has silly little battle cries, shes having a FUN TIME. which is shown in the music bc its CONSISTENTLY HAPPY. also the very sharp and sorta staccato (see i know SOME music terminology) notes throughout r veryyy fitting for the fights pacing and hornets attacks.
Okay this has been sitting in mt drafts for a bit and idk i might rb w add ons but j think i was just on smth else that night bc ive never been like. In the Mindset(tm) to do more of this. Ok. Have fun exnihilo person. Yea.

sigh. i am cursed to have thoughts and connections to mediocre media
descendants, fe3h, and bnha are by far the most Mediocre but that makes them so easy to fixate on... i could FIX THEM!!!!! i havent had descendants thoughts in a while, but the other two are EMBEDDED INTO MY BRAIN
claude is my best friend i adore him beyond belief but the story DOES NOT CARE ABOUT HIM... wc should have been more route-focused regardless, but vw should have ABSOLUTELY been more unique. i have so many Concepts in my brain about this. the heart of it will always be making almyra matter more + having claude assist the kingdom forces properly. there is truly no reason for the alliance and kingdom NOT to team up aside from miscommunications that literally could have been settled on the battlefield without any bloodshed. i think a kingdom assist mission in early VW is very compelling, i would have loved to make use of the fhirdiad map in the VW route.
like, claude's whole thing is Fundamentally about uniting people. it's why he's the king of unification! and it's SUCH a waste that he can't start with the kingdom+the alliance.
i don't even bat that hard for dmcl but i could... i just claude so much and dmcl is a popular claude ship so i like it because i like claude...
and bnha........................i am always fixing bnha in my brain. it had so much potential. but frankly i think its downfalls are trying to make bkg matter to the plot and also not letting OFA's weirdness be more central. part of that is that i think hk didnt plan for OFA to be so weird at first. but oh well.
like the sports festival showed us those ghosts, and then the story waited WAY TOO LONG to shoot chekov's gun! danger sense should have gone off during the hosu arc and then we have ANOTHER awakening at the final exam (float, maybe, since all might would recognize it and he can start researching now. bkg doesn't see it though. only toshi) and then another at the summer camp (fa jin, perhaps, since then izuku could try doing his faux-higher percentages and not break himself so badly). i don't mind izuku not getting a reveal during the eri stuff since that arc is more about "WHY izuku" than anything else.
and then the joint training can still be blackwhip. its by far the most destructive awakening, even compared to fa jin during the fight against muscular... smokescreen is also pretty obvious (i mean, so is float, but izuku was already super mobile so i think it's a little more conceptually acceptable than smokescreen). like, i think blackwhip and smokescreen are THE hardest quirks to explain away. danger sense is invisible, izuku was already super mobile with the stockpile so floating/using it to fly is super easy to accept, and then fa jin is just another strength quirk but different since its storing up kinetic energy. smokescreen could maybe be during the provisional license after toga tries to attack him actually...
the point is! there was SUCH a better way to introduce another quirk into OFA but instead we got canon.
isn't is so annoying that my brain is so hellbent on mediocre media. i want to be free so bad. but alas. here i am.

Old Stuff is good stuff.
Yes I spend a lot of time reading. I seek out other opinions and hope to learn things. Yesterday I was on a site which is an index of audiophile sites all over the English speaking planet. A heading in there caught my eye about used equipment.
Here it is:
It is rather strange. Perspective is an old guy with decades of experience downsizing his stuff. If there is a bottom line there it may have been buying used is physically dangerous, economically questionable and not worth it. He even includes stories of armed robbery.
Aside from felony he touches on reliability and a few legitimate service issues. I mean he went way past reasonable, but he was very thorough. Overall you have to think WTF? He had lots of old stuff and he gave it away to family and or sold it. Was it dumb for those people to take his stuff cuz it was old?
So read it and learn another perspective. BUT I assure you there is treasure out there.
My entire system is OLD. There is a thriving market for used equipment. There are inherent risks to buying stuff built by companies that no longer exist. For the most part that justifies the cost savings in the price. The other side is that most old stuff is very serviceable. Just big easy to get parts. I have one piece with probably irreplaceable ICs, but tiny chip things tend to fail when new, or never. I also have schematics and even service manuals for ALL my stuff.
Here is a great source for that.
I use the local Craigslist and Canuck Audio Mart. There are audio marts in the US and the UK as well. My preamp, and two Turntables were purchased through that. Two of my old turntables, and my old preamp were sold the same way. I am a bit ahead cash wise and I am happy with my purchases and my buyers reached out to say how happy they were with theirs.
As far as buying old audiophile stuff, it is the best way into the hobby. New high end stuff is stupid expensive. It is not very much better than 40 or 50 year old stuff in working condition. Yes it takes some knowledge and experience. I think the risks are not significant compared to the rewards. Yes watch for scams they are out there.
My last set of ads had scammers respond. One asked incoherent questions the other was super low-balling me.
My most expensive purchase was the ARC SP-14. If it fails I have two repair options. There is a very respectable Classic Audio dealer that does repairs near me. They are so good people come from great distances. Downside is there is a long wait list. The second option is ARC is still thriving and will service almost everything they ever built.
My Boss TT is a bit exotic, but there are two TT repair places in the Metro area, and there is a guy in Florida that specializes in linear tracking Japanese direct drive turntables. I think I am covered. I also have a backup TT which aint bad.
One thing that guy touches on is electronic stuff tends to fail early on or not for a long time. I concur. There is a weakness in electrolytic capacitors. They do age and can fail. Sometimes then leak. It is relatively easy to replace them with new and usually far superior parts.
I had two things need serious service. My Harmon Kardon Citation 12 needed new power supply capacitors as two of the four shit the bed. I replaced them. A couple of years later I found a strange noise and measured a bad voltage on the board. (Those schematics are handy.) I took it to the repair guys who rebuilt the boards with new in-line capacitors and a few transistors. It is better than new now.
My old Tube Amp had one channel go out. It was a failed tube, but it was caused by something else. The power supply diodes where going. Fixed and again better than new. I think both repairs were around $200 bucks.
The HK was vintage 1970s the Preamp 1980s. Good for another 40 years. It is interesting that some HK Citation 12s are now for sale on CAM ranging from 600s to over 1000 bucks. They were once the best there was, and now still pretty damn good.
If the idea of on-line or classified ads or shipping goods long distances intimidates there are brick and mortar shops. There are two near me. I have bought stuff from one, the other I just found. They will cost a bit more as they are businesses. Recently there have been some Pawn Shops putting up ads. That is a bit risky as there is no assurance of condition, they just want cash. I was tempted for one Amplifier which was a good buy even if I added the cost of a repair tech into it.
There are a couple of guys around here that buy broken or dead electronics and fix them up and sell them for good prices. One is listing a QUAD 405 for $600 bucks. Not Bad at all.
So check ads, identify things of interest and then do some research. If you find a 30 year old review from Stereophile or the like it is probably worthy of the risk.
Way cheaper than otherwise.

Any tips on how to grow your own blog by chance?
Aah man I've written a response to this kind of question many times but I always delete it because I'm afraid of coming off as self centered or arrogant, but I definitely have some tips on what works and doesn't work (on tumblr.)
I will say that I never believed I would get to the "Big Fandom Artist" stage. I've seen people drop my name in conversations or descriptions and just assume other people know who I am and that's still incredibly wild to me. I never really pushed to get a big blog it really just happened.
But! I do have rules and personal guidelines that might help if you are thinking of actively building your blog!
1: Keep personal information and vent posts to a minimum
It should go without saying that its not a good thing for your personal information to be on the internet. Once its out there its near impossible to erase. This is for your own safety.
Vent posts give out more information than you might think, but also some people who are following you may be going through difficult times themselves. I go on the internet to get away from my stressors and problems and i've specifically catered my dashboard to reflect my desires. I have no doubt others are the same.
I've unfollowed mutuals because they vented too frequently. I enjoyed what they made! But it stressed me out to read their vent posts because I couldn't help. I realized it was taking a toll on my mental health and I made the tough decision to unfollow.
It is very tempting to vagueblog because its nice getting out all the angry feelings, but a blog with thousands of people following it is not the place to do it.
2: Shitpost vs Quality Foley
I could go into a massive essay on this alone (ive even written out an outline already) but i'll keep it as brief as I can.
Throughout my time on Tumblr I’ve seen a number of posts of artists complaining about the lack of notes on their serious work compared to the abundance of notes on their shitposts.
This is because Tumblr IS a place of shitposts. It's like squeezing a clown nose and expecting it not to honk.
However! It's more complicated than that and i've broken it up into four parts organized by importance.
A. Relevance/Meta: Is it something that people are already familiar with? Is it something that's currently going on?
People want to enjoy things they're already familiar with. For example, people getting into Hollow Knight are more likely to follow a blog that posts HK content regularly over a HK blog that posted a picture of Grimm once and then is full of original content. It's not that people don't like your original stuff, its just not what they're looking for.
If you like striking while the iron is hot, meta jokes are the way to go. Making references to games like Among Us during the height of its popularity for example would get you lots of notes.
B. Hilarity
Is it funny? Does it subvert expectations?
Shitposts will always be more popular than a well drawn post. People like to laugh and share things that laugh. A cool, well drawn post is more often than not met with a "hm, cool. scrolls down."
This is a polished comic I made 10 months ago. I'm very proud of it and i'm pleased with the amount of attention it got. It took me 2 days to finish.
This is a shitpost I made 3 years ago that I still haven't been able to top. It took me 30 minutes to make.
That's not to say a well drawn post can get popular! It's just that people enjoy a good laugh over something shiny. This is a factor of knowing your audience. Some things land better than others and you'll be better off if you just roll with what you get.
I will say tho I appreciate the people who reblog my oc posts 200x more than people who reblog my shitposts and fanart. Those are quality followers and you must cherish them.
C. Appeal
Is it cute? Is it fluffy? Is the design easy to understand? Does it make people emotional? Is it angsty? Is it relatable?
People like cute shit. People like things that make them hurt (albeit not too much). People like things that they can see themselves in.
D. Skill
There is some merit in being good at what you do. People do like funny things more than shiny things, but shiny things are cool too.
If you post things that are funny? You're normal horoscopes.
If you post things that are well drawn? (its really telling that I can't think of someone right off the top of my head)
If you post things that are funny AND well drawn? Well then you're iguanamouth
3: Know your boundaries.
There's a difference between being understanding/tagging things correctly and catering to people who want you to be someone else.
I know that many people get upset with others who gender the vessels in Hollow Knight. While it doesn't bother me, I can recognize the misgendering of vessels as a source of dysphoria and I tag accordingly.
If someone comes into my inbox and tells me to stop drawing a character because they're "problematic," I'm just going to block them and go about my day.
4: This is your blog, its your rules.
I'm apologetically myself on my blog. I post what I want and what inspires me. The reason why I have so many AUs is because its my blog and I like AUs. If a large portion of the fandom doesn't like my AUs, its their loss, I make great AUs.
In fact, its just a good mindset in general to have. If some people don't like what you make, its not your problem. It makes you happy and it makes hundreds of others happy then continue to do what you do. It's impossible to have a large following and not have someone who dislikes you purely out of spite.
Make stuff for yourself, not because you want numbers.
5: Don't feed the trolls.
If someone sends you hate, take a picture of it, share it with your friends, laugh, block the person, delete message, move on with your life.
It's really fun to feed the trolls, but feeding trolls attracts more trolls and soon its not fun anymore. Just laugh when you get your first anon hate, maybe frame it in your room, and don't even acknowledge them with a "fuck you."
6: Recognize your position.
This is more advice for when you do get a big blog. You get to a point when you realize you have a portion of your audience who value much more than a regular human being and are willing to take up arms for you.
Do. Not. Weaponize. Your audience.
It's incredibly shitty and can ruin peoples lives.
7: Post Frequency/Schedule
Now this is one I can't do. It's normal for me to become incredibly active for 2 weeks and then end up posting nothing for a month. I don't have the patience to build up a queue of new things.
However! If you have more discipline than me, posting daily or twice a week builds up anticipation for your next post. You're dependable and people have the chance to look forward to seeing something from you on their dash on Friday.
Thats all I can think of so far.
There's no TL;DR you'll miss my important advice within these tips.

you know what we've been robbed of? aizawa interactions with baku and todo. this hospital stay could've been such a perfect chance. they have a mentor right there who can be there for both of them, shouto especially, who aizawa is already shown to be very attentive to.
ive wanted a mentorship for shouto that wasn't endeavor for the longest time and you calling it what it is, basically constant exposure to his abuser trying to fix problems he put there in the first place, is such a gut punching way of saying it and displaying what my exact problem with it is. shouto deserves better fr
bkg's relationship with bj is surface at best, and while i do think baku respects jeanist, i always read him wanting to declare god explosion murder dynamight to bj first and foremost as bakugou being petty. like "im going to be the best and im going to change sure but im never gonna fit your standards and you're gonna have to deal with it". endeavor helped baku with some self-reflection but ive never felt their mentorship the way i felt endeavor's with deku. they were always kinda at odds i think.
as for all might, he flip flops between trying to be inclusive of bakugou and being willing to sell him for a pack of chips if deku was hungry and it's both funny and sad lol.
Well, we have been robbed of the entire my hospital academia arc. Luckily fandom filled the hole a bit.
I think Shouto being stuck with Endeavor all the time is a curse that comes from him being the link between UA and the pro-hero world until the last arc basically.  It also ensured that his story-line would stay important, but it was a bit cannibalized by Endeavor (and HK being partial to writing pro-heroes...)
I think Shouto’s growing bond with Aizawa is kind of implied between the lines. I think it was after the Provisional Licensing exam that Aizawa realized that Shouto was this quiet kind of trouble that just completely slips under the radar until it’s too late. So even though Aizawa never reacted to his top students failing, I think there was the unspoken recognition that the problem wasn’t their ability, but emotional issues that went unnoticed and he started to pay more attention.
I’ve always loved this scene where Aizawa seeing the fight on TV - and his absolute first thought is Shouto. (Compare that with AM’s reaction which is fully about AFO/hero society/his loss of power/whether Endeavor can do it)...
Tumblr media
Aizawa also personally drove Shouto to his family dinner and back. So there is a lot of off-screened stuff happening there.
But still, I think it would have been nice for Shouto to work together with a pro who is not Endeavor to try to learn from someone with some distance of the Todoroki-family - who sees Shouto’s quirk and ability without any baggage.
As for Bakugou’s mentors, it’s true that none of his mentors have this surrogate parent relationship with him, but Bakugou’s entire character is that of self-sufficiency. He’s not shackled by legacy or a master or a family. So he learns from each of his mentors without idolizing them (he’s even able to look at All Might critically, as much as he was the inspiration). And at the end of the day, that’s what a mentorship is about. Being able to learn from more experienced people, take what’s useful, discard what doesn’t fit - and move on.
But it is true that the way All Might relates to Bakugou can be quite confusing - on some days, it’s like he treats him and Deku on the same level, while sometimes it really feels like his purpose is to ensure Bakugou’s support for Deku (helping his training, making him an ally for Deku).

NO ONE IS HAPPY WITH THIS: Leitmotif & Sound Palette In “Sealed Vessel”
whats UP hk fandom i am back with—“more picante takes?” WOW YES HOW DID YOU KNOW!!!
CONTENT WARNING FOR TONIGHTS PROGRAM: today we are discussing the hollow knight boss fight, and all that entails for all the characters involved. relatedly this post does not have anything nice to say about the pale king, so if you’re very protective of his character, you may want to skip it.
FURTHERMORE, i would like to iterate that this essay is working from a place of compassion for ghost, hollow, radiance, AND hornet, because every single one of them is miserable at this point in the game and doesn’t want the events of this boss fight to be happening at all. this post is not an appropriate place to dunk on ANY of them. if you want to do that, please do it elsewhere.
thanks for your understanding.
ALSO, AS USUAL: if youre from a christian cultural upbringing (whether currently practicing, agnostic/secular, or atheist now), understand that some of what i’m discussing here may challenge you. if thinking thru the implications of radiance and the moth tribe’s backstory is distressing for you, PLEASE only approach this essay when youre in a safe mindset & open to listening, and ask the help of a therapist or anti-racism teacher/mentor to help you process your thoughts & feelings. just like keep in mind that youre listening to an ethnoreligiously marginalized person and please be respectful here or wherever else youre discussing this dang essay, ty
NO ONE IS HAPPY WITH THIS: Leitmotif & Sound Palette In “Sealed Vessel”
A while back @grimmradiance made a lovely essay about comparing and contrasting Hollow’s moveset in their Hollow Knight and Pure Vessel boss fights and using what can be gleaned from the differences to speculate about their psychology. (This essay is currently their pinned, but I’ll attach a link in a reblog.) It is extremely good, and it made me want to look at the Hollow Knight boss fight my own self through one of my own areas of expertise, meaning music!
As we are all well aware, Christopher Larkin's soundtrack to Hollow Knight rules ass. There are two specific ways in which it rules ass that are relevant to this essay: Leitmotif, and sound palette.
Quick rundown for folks who aren’t familiar with these terms: A leitmotif is a melody associated with a character or event or mood that's incorporated into songs in different ways based on what's happening in the story. Undertale is an example of a game with an incredibly strong use of leitmotif that’s really only possible because Toby Fox is both the composer and the game creator, so he can synchronize the subtleties of the writing with music and scene scripting too.
The phrase “sound palette” can have a lot of meanings, but in this case I’m using it to refer to specific instruments or groups of instruments that are associated with certain characters. If you’ve watched Steven Universe and seen interviews/production commentary by its composer team Aivi & Surasshu, you’ll hear them talking about part of their approach to scoring episodes being how each main character is represented by certain instruments: Steven with the triangle wave, Pearl with jazz piano, and so on.
Hollow Knight is a small team project rather than a one-person show, so Christopher Larkin can’t go quite AS over-the-top with leitmotif integration as Toby Fox can on simple virtue of Team Cherry having to communicate what they want to him. But Larkin is Hollow Knight's sound designer as well as its composer, so he folds leitmotif and character sound palette together with striking use of stems to create a very immersive and cinematic musical experience that enhances HK’s story and gameplay.
This brings us back to the track Sealed Vessel, which has EXTREMELY tight and cinematic sound design and uses leitmotif and sound palette to not just sock players in the feelings during a charged and dramatic boss fight, but also tell us a lot about what Hollow and Radiance are experiencing emotionally, especially with the gameplay in mind.
So, let’s play the soundtrack version of Sealed Vessel (and some other stuff) and talk about what’s going on in the game during it!
You may want to get out your copy of the OST or visit Christopher Larkin’s Bandcamp page so that you can listen along.
LEITMOTIF & SOUND PALETTE
Before we actually get into analyzing Sealed Vessel, let’s talk about the involved characters’ leitmotifs/sound palettes so we know what we’re listening for.
Both of these things are easiest to identify when characters have a distinct theme song. Ghost does not. However, the main theme of Hollow Knight (see: the title track, Hollow Knight) is used as a leitmotif for the vessels as a whole. Most pieces involved with a vessel character include this leitmotif somewhere. For instance, you can find this leitmotif and variations on it in Broken Vessel’s boss theme. The Vessel leitmotif is led by a cello solo here, so we can identify that the cello is the central part of Broken Vessel’s personal sound palette.
When the Vessel theme is associated with Ghost in specific, it tends to be performed by viola and/or piano, as it is on the title track and in other places like the opening cinematic.
Moving on to Hollow, their specific sound palette is established not in Sealed Vessel but in Pure Vessel, their pantheon boss theme. (Sealed Vessel was composed first, since the Godmaster DLC didn’t drop until over a year after HK’s initial release, meaning Pure Vessel was reverse-engineered/extrapolated from relevant parts of Sealed Vessel. But we’ll get into that later!)
The major instrumental fixtures in Pure Vessel are choir and tubular bells (i.e., those dramatic vertical fellas that sound like church bells or a carillon), with some soft background instrumentation: bass drum, woodwinds (appropriately led by flute in the main melody’s “falling motion” - flute is the centerpiece of TPK’s sound palette), strings, and high/mid brass. Hollow’s overall sound palette has a very Christian choir-esque sound (in the Pure Vessel theme this is very idealized and saintly: soft and slow and tragic) and the beginning of their leitmotif has a very distinctive climbing melody that mirrors their ascent from the Abyss. The Unbearable Vesselness Of Being leitmotif is absent from the Pure Vessel track.
Meanwhile, Radiance’s boss theme is a very fun expression of her character upon which Larkin evidently went ham. Her sound palette is expressed through full orchestra (plus choir and pipe organ) that has a special emphasis on the bass part of the brass section, which does not see much use in the HK soundtrack. Her leitmotif has also got cute and distinctive touches: It’s full of triplets to match her tiara-looking antennae, and also has a repeated “fluttery” pattern of background sixteenth notes as countermelody, often spiraling downwards.
The majority of the piece is loud and bombastic and in a minor key to play up the “resplendent and terrible” wrathful aspect of herself Radi is pushing during this section of gameplay, a very quintessentially moth intimidation tactic: Try to look as scary as possible to keep your enemies from messing with you, since you’re not built for fighting. These blasts of intensity from the brass section match Radiance’s strategy of Overwhelm You With Bullet Hell Spam To Make Up For Lack Of Battle Experience/Poor Aim. But in between said intensity spikes you can hear traces of softer instrumentation and major key, little glimpses of a gentle warmth we can otherwise only infer from her backstory and the implications of Moth Tribe lore.
0:00 - 0:41 - OPENING AMBIANCE
The Sealed Vessel track begins with the ambiance of the Black Egg Temple’s interior: The faint tones of the glowing seals we hear when we pass by them, the only light in a pitch-black world besides the floor lighting up under Ghost’s feet.
Then a slow string tremolo fades in, slowly growing louder. In the track new notes join the tremolo progressively, while in-game a violin joins the anticipatory chord every time you snap one of Hollow’s chains. Which, may I say: A+++++++ sound design!!!!!! Rules ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The tremolo reaches a peak in dynamics - all three characters present are extremely tense - and then cuts off to allow for Hollow’s boss battle opening, i.e. Radiance screaming. Team Cherry kindly demarcates each phase of the battle with a Radi yell.
0:43 - 1:39 - PHASE 1: HOLLOW ON AUTOPILOT
Phase 1 opens immediately with Hollow’s leitmotif in bells, but with brass, piano, and percussion backing them up; grand and tragic. In the background the bass section of the orchestra's strings flutter in a repetitive pattern of 16th notes, i.e. Panicky Radi Noises. The violins harmonize with Hollow's leitmotif as it climbs, but then join the rest of the string section in fluttering 16th notes, transmuting what in Pure Vessel is the flute leading Hollow back down (8th notes) to a slightly louder “a” from the backseat.
In actual gameplay, the only attacks Hollow uses are their basic nail skills. Building on grimmradiance’s analysis of the window their attacks provide to their psychology, and pairing that with the Pure Vessel leitmotif booming over the metaphorical loudspeakers, we can tell that this is Hollow reacting automatically to a threat the way that their father trained them to. Their conscious mind might still be making dialup noises at Ghost’s sudden reappearance jumpscaring them with murky childhood guilt and trauma, but that’s only let muscle memory take over. Slash, parry, charge and thrust. Their time spent at bee bootcamp (which we can assume because Hornet was trained at the Hive and Hollow’s form while nail fighting is identical to hers on their shared moves) has served them well.
Radiance, meanwhile, has frozen completely for this combat phase, and contributes nothing here except the anxiety of the string section.
As the strings continue to go “a” the piano (Ghost) and woodwinds harmonize on something between Hollow’s personal leitmotif and the Vessel leitmotif in the backdrop.
However at around 1:29ish, the key changes, building into an overall color change for the Sealed Vessel piece.
1:39 - 2:15 - PHASE 2: SHE’S AS SCARED OF YOU AS YOU ARE OF HER
In actual gameplay, the part of Sealed Vessel used for phases 1 and 2 of the Hollow Knight fight is the Entirety of 0:43 - 2:15, possibly because there’s no easy transition spot like there is between phase 2 and phase 3. But the changes to Hollow’s moveset are clearly tied to this specific part of the piece.
Phase 2 is where Radiance pushes herself past her freeze response and starts trying to hit Ghost. Hollow gains two attacks here, which we can tell are Radi because they’re often accompanied by her crying (a softer and more abbreviated sound than her full scream): These two attacks are the Infection blob blast and the Light/Void pillar attack that hits for a full 2 masks damage (which appear to be Radi’s take on Hollow’s Pure Vessel-exclusive moves, their grabby tentacles & silver knife pillars respectively).
In the Sealed Vessel track, this part of the piece is almost entirely Radiance’s fluttering. The strings start by following the descending motion of Hollow’s leitmotif but in 16th notes, then ratchet up to start spiraling down again while straying further from Hollow’s leitmotif. This section ends in a back and forth between hard blasts in a one-two-(rest)-one-two-three pattern and gasps of fluttering between, with piano and low brass building behind it. Eventually the nervous fluttering of the strings becomes less frequent between the blasts: Radiance is inexperienced with fighting and very very afraid, but she’s also FUCKING PISSED and prepared to defend herself.
The OST version of the piece punctuates the break between the first half of the piece and the second with Radiance’s scream.
2:16 - 4:04 - PHASE 3: “I’M HELPING! :)” SAID HOLLOW; “HOLY SHIT PLEASE DON’T,” SAID LITERALLY EVERYONE
Phase 3 opens with Hollow stabbing themself repeatedly, a movement pattern they repeat throughout the phase. It is shocking the first time you see it, and never stops being horrible and sad no matter how many times you do this part of the fight.
Here, Hollow’s mind has finally come back online after their own freeze response, and they choose to destroy themself and bequeath the duty of sealing Radiance to Ghost. Even if they can’t be the one to make their father proud, they can still make sure their directive gets carried out.
Radiance knows exactly what they’re up to and why, and she reacts to this by completely losing her head and mashing buttons in a panic. This is something we see out of her at the ends of her boss fights too, where she’s feeling too threatened and afraid to do anything but spam optic blasts. In the Hollow Knight boss fight this manifests in two horrifying-looking but easy-to-avoid new attacks: The Infection blob sprinkler and the ragdoll.
Ghost does not react visibly because we're in gameplay, but their horror and grief at their sibling’s choice is echoed in the BGM. The Sealed Vessel piece goes soft and sad, with Ghost’s associated viola leading the bass strings in the Unbearable Vesselness of Being leitmotif. At 2:51 the violin comes in with Hollow’s leitmotif, and gradually the choir appears in the backdrop. The ensemble’s overall dynamics build in a slow crescendo, and at the very end of this segment the other instruments begin to join in.
This segment of the piece is also used in phase 4, which occurs if you don't have Hornet’s help or miss your cue to Dream Nail Hollow. Phase 3 ends when Hollow reaches 0 HP; in phase 4 they are for all purposes already dead. But Radiance manifests an extra 250 HP out of terrified, unadulterated FUCK YOU FUCK THIS!!! even though all she can do is get Hollow to fall on their face trying to slash and ragdoll them around. The BGM continues to play as Ghost absorbs Radiance from Hollow and Hollow’s body loses its shape and dissolves into liquid Void.
And there’s one other place in gameplay Sealed Vessel (Unbearable Vesselness of Being) is used: The Path of Pain, the completely evil kaizo-level obstacle course which presumably featured in Hollow’s childhood training, and behind which the Pale King has hidden his last and most terrible secret—that he had realized on some level that Hollow was a kid with feelings who loved him and wanted to make him proud, and condemned them to death despite it all by using them to imprison and torture Radiance as he’d always planned.
The OST version of Sealed Vessel includes the music for both normal ending cinematics, so we’ll be looking at them too.
4:05 - 4:35: ENDINGS 1/2: NO ONE IS HAPPY WITH THIS
In the BGM for The Hollow Knight and Sealed Siblings endings, the Vessel leitmotif is played by violin, viola, and choir while the cellos and contrabasses—and then the brass bass section too—play a slower version of Radiance’s downward spiral. But once Ghost is pierced by the Black Egg’s chains and Radiance’s struggle to free herself ends in failure, the soprano and bass sections harmonize. The animation zooms out of the temple and the seal reforms. They are stuck together now until the end of Ghost’s life. Hooray.
The OST version of the track immediately segues into the BGM for Dream No More.
4:36 - 5:45: ENDING 3: THANKS, I HATE IT
Here, Hornet’s associated instrument, the violin, plays one long sustained note with a few notes of Ghost’s piano alongside as she wakes up.
TPK’s goddamn flute comes in at 5:00 with his leitmotif overpowering the backdrop Vessel leitmotif on piano while Hornet surveys the carnage: The temple has been destroyed, Radiance is dead, and what’s left of Ghost’s corpse is smeared across the floor. The Void may have taken umbrage with his horseshit and unceremoniously vored him, but the motherfucker still got what he wanted in the end; the Pale King has ended the Infection by completing his genocide of the moths, using the children he abused and abandoned as his proxies, and wasting two of their lives. Can I get a hearty THIS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in the chat.
Given that Hornet herself is canonically unsure if bringing the fight to Radiance is really a just course of action, one can only imagine how she must feel when she sees the cost of that decision.
Our only real moment of catharsis is in this shit situation comes in at 5:13, where the flute gives way to a solo from Ghost’s associated viola, playing the Vessel leitmotif as the Siblings curl up and sink back into the mountain of their corpses. Goodnight, kiddos. You deserved better, and so did literally everyone involved in this whole stupid boss fight.
This is where the OST version of Sealed Vessel ends. Even without the gameplay and story context it slaps, but now that we’ve taken a look at how this 5:45 piece is wall to wall misery and fear on the part of literally every involved character, hopefully it will have even more impact!

ah well my frustrations didn't translate well. It's just shigaraki's just one of the best written characters and he's like one of he characters who feels tangible. And deku in comparison well falls short, the narrative he had as a quirkless outcast was slated out and it maybe brought back but who knows. We're in the final stretch. Him saving shigaraki would feel hollow bcuz well if he couldn't even empathize with dabi who he actually does know about - the overburdening, abusive father, the weight of legacy, the indirect killing - well it's just raises doubts whether it would feel satisfactory when he does save shiggy. And well I'm more of the crowd that can actually see shigaraki saving deku because both tenko and shigaraki empathize with outcasts - I'm not against villains being saved but deku has never been like oh yeah maybe this society is screwed and I don't want villains losing their radical and legit criticism of the society and heroics.
Oh, OH! You’re the anon from before - so I got you partly right. I had the feeling you were more arguing because of the failings of Izuku rather than Shigaraki, so I absolute agree. Actually a lot of people (me included) would like to see a Quirkless Deku at the end of the manga, because indeed it would bring some sort of closure to the circle and because there would be no reason for the existence of OfA anymore (if AfO is gone) - so his character will definitely stay in the works until the last bit of the manga, which is why I get your criticism, especially if compared to Horikoshi’s most accomplished and best written character (Shigaraki).
I think your ‘society is screwed and I don’t want villains losing their radical and legit criticism’ is very much my point to. That’s the defect Deku has as a character since the beginning, and while I already talked about this in the previous answer it does feel half baked in its realisation (especially if we consider how poorly he related to Dabi even though he bared himself for everyone to see) but at the same time I think this stems from the fact that Horikoshi’s goal is to have only ONE hero parallel and empathise with only ONE villain. I say this because it might not make sense otherwise, but what HK is building is an exclusive relationship in which only that hero might relate and empathise with that villain, putting the base for Deku saving Shigaraki because only he can. You get what I am pointing at? It’s still a loophole, because usually if you relate to a victim, then you should not relate only to one in particular, but I guess that in this case, HK thought it would fail the purpose of having Shouto/Touya as narrative foils, same as Ochako/Toga. When Deku saves Shigaraki, because he will, it will feel satisfactory exactly because of the exclusive relation each of them has to the other, not because Izuku’s character is an accomplished one. But that’s my opinion, really. I am trying to put myself into the writer’s perspective and while I do see his failings, I am trying also to think through the steps that HK might have made while writing the plot line. This still does not negate the fact that Izuku’s obsession with heroes and the inexistent potential will to actually understand that what the villains are trying to do is exactly to rupture the status quo he is inadvertently both keeping in place and destroying is what makes his character sometimes a Mary Sue who has no narrative flavour. But I guess that in order to accomplish his mission he would have to get there at some point, it is (just as @/haleigh-sloth pointed out in this post) taking a damn lot of time.
However, let’s try to be positive and enjoy the narrative. We will get there. Or die trying. So let the odds be in our favour.

3. favorite line/scene you wrote this year?
24. favorite fic you read this year?
25. a fic you read this year you would recommend everyone read?
3. 100% Hypno's part of One Hundred Thousand Worlds Away. Never have I ever captured the feeling of being low-key suffocated by the smell of flowers while suffering in the heat so well. Also the fact that I also managed to make his narration trail off and zone out, mmm I'm so proud of that snippet of the fic despite it taking up less than a quarter of just that chapter. Considering I 1. have been to some flower farms/flower shops in the malaysian heat before 2. am a student who cannot concentrate in class to save my life, I think I combined those two pretty well
24. *pulls out my bookmarks*
Candid Melody by BastardBin. This shit is tooth-rottingly sweet and holy shit it's so soft and adorable. Also very gay. This is the fic that single-handedly pulled me into liking scarian in the first place. Did I mention it was scarian? Anyways if you're a scarian fan (or even just a hermitshipping type of guy) I highly recommend it. 10/10.
The White Tree by TheManOfManyFandoms. This fic actually has a part 2 in the collections called Timeless that is more focused on the fiances rather than just Karl himself, but I absolutely love the first one. This series is incredibly well written and I love how it's narrated I can't point out why I love it so much but oh my god go read the fic drop kudos and send the author lots of love this fic is so underrated compared to most fics in this fandom. Also should mention this fic is about timetraveler!Karl Jacobs lol
Freefall by SylverFletcher. This one is like the others where it's a short one chapter fic but this one in particular is very short and sweet. This is mostly just describing Grian flying and doing tricks in the air with no dialogue at all, which is something I love about fics sometimes. Gives me light, carefree vibes that I love!
25. Aside from the ones up top... *pulls out even more bookmarks*
Tommy Runs by WitchesCatOnABroomstick. If you like hermit!Tommy stuff this one is a short read about how Tommy got to Hermitcraft. The writing style fits incredibly well with the story and gives it a really impactful feeling overall
A Watcher's Duty by Nym_P_Seudo. Sadly this one is unfinished and probably won't update for the foreseeable future but if you're the type that doesn't mind a half-finished fic this one is a lovely read. Hollow Knight fic of Lurien being forced to babysit a very young Hornet and a very awkward Pure Vessel. This one is pretty popular within the fandom if I remember correctly and the characters are very charming
There are Hallowed Beings in Pharloom by FangirlOfPower. Yet another HK fic, this one is a pretty interesting take of the story of Hollow Knight, namely if Silksong is a prequel to the main game. Absolutely amazing writing, I wish I could give more than one kudo
Passerine by blujamas and thcscus. Yes, groan if you're getting sick of this fic, but I'm telling you: this fic made me cry thrice in the span on one (1) chapter. It's heartbreaking. It's amazing. Go read it. It's great. (for people not into dsmp and are confused this is a royalty AU fic where people die a lot and it hurts like a bitch every time)
There's a lot more but I actually went ahead and pulled out all the fics I absolutely recommend people to read we'd be here for an hour ^^;

My Thoughts on Jedi Fallen Order
So after upgrading to a new, stronger laptop (pretty sure my stupidity in attempting to run this game on my old laptop hastened its tragic, untimely demise), I finally finished Jedi Fallen Order last night. I had mixed feelings going into this game, as I have some friends who said it was amazing while others said it was a mediocre story with decent gameplay.
Now after playing, was it the greatest Star Wars game I’ve ever experienced? No, but it was very good. Some minor gripes here and there, but overall I had a blast playing the game.
Warning: Some spoilers will be included, I’ll try to keep them as minor as possible though.
Story:
So I’m not gonna go overly deep into the story as I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who still hasn’t played the game, but to be honest I found the plot of Fallen Order to be a bit generic at first. It’s a classic light side vs dark side narrative with a redemption arc or two sprinkled in. In fact, I found the plot of Fallen Order to be quite similar in structure to the Disney Trilogy. Both have MacGuffin hunts (holocron and wayfinder), both include journeys to different planets following the trail of someone else (Eno Cordova and that one assassin dude mentioned in IX), both have mentors who have distanced themselves from the Force (Cere and Luke), and both have antagonists who were failed by their masters (Trilla and Kylo).
Fallen Order splits off from this more generic route after returning to Dathomir and does it’s own thing, but I found myself asking why I enjoyed the first 75% or so of Fallen Order when I absolutely hated the DT. I found the answer to lie mainly in two things: the characters and the world they found themselves in.
Characters:
Cal Kestis: I absolutely loved Cal’s character arc. He has his own deep personal struggles with his past, feeling responsible for the death of his master. He faces those fears and comes to terms with his past, determined to make a better future. Cal not only comes out of his journey a Jedi Knight, but as a stronger person. Compare this to Rey, who had no meaningful flaws or personal struggles. Plus Cal’s the first ginger Jedi! Score one for diversity!
BD-1: My fourth favorite Star Wars droid, only behind HK-47, KOTOR 2′s T3-M4, and K-2SO. He’s cute, adorable, and loyal to a fault. What more could you ask for in a droid? (Other than a tibanna-powered blaster rifle and a bloodthirsty, anti-meatbag personality of course!) Plus there’s a revelation about his history towards the end that only makes him better and better.
Cere Junda: Star Wars has always had its mentor characters, but in all honesty I found Cere to be pretty generic. A Jedi Master who failed her Padawan and touched the dark side, only to be horrified by it and renounce the Force. Throughout learning her story, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I had already seen something like this before. Her arc isn’t bad, it’s well done and feels natural to her character, it was just rather generic.
Greez Dritus: Gotta say Greez grew on me as the game went on. He has his flaw in his gambling problem which bites Cal in the ass a couple times, but towards the end I really felt the connection between him and the others grow. He’s also the source of a good deal of humor.
Nightsister Merrin: Sadly, Merrin being an eventual ally was spoiled for me, but I love the subversion because it was built up that she would be an eventual boss fight. Merrin might be my favorite character besides Cal, I wish there were more interactions with her in game! She’s hot, has a great accent, a wicked sense of humor, and is powerful with Nightsister magick. But beyond all that, she’s a parallel to Cal. Both are survivors, the last of their kind, and I’m hoping that if a sequel is made, it goes deeper into their relationship because Merrin and Cal have great chemistry. I also love how Merrin challenges Cal and Cere’s plan to train the next gen of Jedi using the holocron, putting that idea in a more realistic, less idealistic light.
Prauf: I really feel bad for him. I liked him and you could feel the camaraderie between him and Cal, how he wanted Cal to succeed and do great things. He didn’t deserve what happened to him.
Oggdo Bogdo: Fuck this frog! He killed me so many times!
Trilla Suduri (Second Sister): The Jedi Padawan that felt betrayed by her master and became an inquisitor. I always love it when antagonists have a personal connection to the protagonists in some way, shape, or form. Trilla shakes Cal’s faith in Cere, and plants seeds of doubt in him. She wants revenge and the Emperor’s favor, and therefore we know why she chases Cal across the galaxy. She has motivations for all her actions, which is something that Kylo lacked in the DT.
Taron Malicos: I knew something was off about this guy the second I met him. I quite enjoyed the clash of beliefs between him, Merrin, and Cal. Malicos proposes a way forward, a new Jedi Order, but one founded on darker teachings. He offers Cal that power, but Cal proves his stature as a Jedi in refusing it.
Ninth Sister (Masana Tide): Probably the weakest of the villain characters for me. Ninth barely has any presence in the game at all other than the start and to serve as a boss battle on Kashyyyk. I honestly just don’t think she fits into the story as is. Perhaps if they tweaked it so that Ninth and Cal knew each other back before Order 66 she would have fit better. Ninth just doesn’t have any personal connection to Cal and the Mantis crew (like Trilla does) and doesn’t really serve as a trial like Malicos does. Remove her from the story and not much changes.
(If you somehow haven’t had this next one spoiled yet, I’m impressed. Please skip to ‘World’ if so)
Darth Vader: I absolutely loved how he was portrayed. A terrifying, unstoppable force. You won’t last in a fight with him, your can only hope you can outrun him.
World:
Fallen Order’s worldbuilding was on point. Cal’s ability to sense Force Echoes lets you get a more detailed understanding of the environment around you. It’s a small-scale Star Wars story, but the planets all feel lived in if you take the time to explore them. It’s the small details like the probe droid witnessing your initial use of the Force on Bracca or the side-stories you can discover like the tragic tale of the family running from the Empire on Zeffo or Malicos’ corruption and manipulation of Merrin that really flesh out the world. Compare this to the galactic-scale story the DT told, which somehow made the galaxy feel extremely small and uninteresting.
My only complaint with the world-building is the Zeffo. They’re just... there. Very little is explained about them. Who were they? Why were they important? What happened to them? Why did they disappear? Perhaps this was to leave room for a sequel but to me the Zeffo just felt like discount Rakata. I wish the devs had gone with the Rakata instead, but maybe that’s just me.
Also the wildlife on every world is more than capable of killing you if you aren’t careful so you almost always have to be on your toes for them, which rolls us into the next part...
Gameplay:
The gameplay was great fun in Fallen Order. Leveling up and unlocking new abilities was exciting and once I got the hang of them all, it was so much fun just cutting through your enemies. I played on Jedi Master difficulty (died approximately 75 times, give or take a few I may have missed) and it felt really well balanced. It forced me to study my opponent’s moves and adapt to them instead of being a hack-and-slash type of game. Combos are fluid and fun to pull off, parrying opponents leaves an opening to attack, and you can experiment with different fighting styles.
Customizing your lightsaber and appearance was also great fun. So many different options and combinations for everything! Plus you got rewarded for exploration with these extra customization options, so it adds incentive to do that if you care about appearances and whatnot. You can become the General Grievous of ponchos!
Overall Rating: 8.5/10
Overall Fallen Order was a great game that could have been even better. Of course I have to admit I’m looking at this through the nostalgia of games like KOTOR 2, which flipped Star Wars completely on its head. I would have preferred if Cere’s story had been a bit more nuanced, the Ninth Sister had more reason for being in the story, or if the game had Cal seriously question the use and role of Jedi in the galaxy (he does a couple times to BD-1, but it’s never really built on).
And then there’s my overall gripe about this type of story set after Order 66. It sets up questions like... where was Cal during the OT? Was he dead? Somewhere in the Unknown Regions doing something else? I know the ending of the game sets up the opening for Cal’s story to continue, but still, these types of stories usually end in death for the Jedi protagonist, so I am a bit nervous for his future.
Despite that though, I am super happy I finally decided to play this and am eagerly awaiting a sequel to continue this story.

Thank you for standing with Hong Kong, it's awful but what started the HK protests was Chan Tong Kai, a two-time m*rderer whose jury started the extradition bill which started the protestors defending a criminal! And he did his crime in TAIWAN(democracy) not mainland China! So the root cause was not china invaders or c*ops suddenly going crazy 1st, it was CHAN TONG KAI crimes! Google it! Fucked, so pressed on defending a bunch of criminal-defenders! And they were trump supporters Google it too
Hello anon! I have never put anything relating to the current situation in Hong Kong on my blog, which leads me to believe you are a troll or you have the wrong person. However, I am going to use this as an opportunity to say yes, I do stand with Hong Kong. I am going to explain why.
Your point about Chan Tong-kai is irrelevant. The real issue that started the protests was the extradition bill introduced in April 2019, which would have allowed for criminal suspects to be extradited to mainland China under certain circumstances. This of course would undoubtedly lead to exposing Hongkongers to unfair trials and violent treatment. It’s also possible that the bill would give China greater influence over Hong Kong and could be used to target activists and journalists. The thing to remember here is that mainland China is currently governed by the CCP. This government is well known for the censorship, brutality, and abuse of its citizens. However, Hong Kong is a former British Colony that was handed back to China in 1997, so they have their own judiciary and a separate legal system from mainland China. Under this system, they have rights that citizens in mainland China don’t, like freedom of speech. The extradition bill that was proposed would have given Beijing more power over Hong Kong, and could have been used to undermine the rights of Hongkongers. This is what sparked the protests. Chan Tong-kai just happened to be a prisoner who was going to be extradited at the same time. But even if the protests had been started strictly because of this one person, they have expanded far beyond that, to things like democratic reform and an inquiry into police brutality. If you cannot support a movement for citizen’s rights and safety against an oppressive government simply because you don’t agree with what you believe to be the starting point, I don’t know what to tell you.
Of course, this is just a very basic explanation of the protests in Hong Kong and I encourage everyone who sees this to do more research and learn more about this crisis. Dig deep and form your own opinions. I will link the sources for this post right here: (X)   (X)   (X)   (X)
And of course, I live in the United States, so my knowledge of what is going on will always be limited compared to those who are experiencing it. If there is anyone reading this who is closer to the situation or has more knowledge you’d like to share, please add to this and help educate others. If I’ve put something in here that isn’t true, let me know and I will immediately fix it. My goal is not to spread misinformation. So thanks for the ask, anon.

5. four fandoms that have peaked your interest.
Tbh the fandoms I actively participate in and the ones I am emotionally attached to arent really the same lol but I think bnha, hq, Fleabag (does this even count but I think about that show 24/7 lmao) andddddd tua
6. how has the pandemic been treating you?
Not that badly ngl. I think people here kinda have their lives returned to normal for the most parts, we started being alerted by covid way earlier than other places so as a result things definitely fell into routine by now. We’ve never really had a official “quarantine” period so I was still able to see my friends and online classes definitely gave me a lot more free time.
7. a song you can’t stop listening to right now?
Everyday A Little Death from A Little Night Music
8. recommend a movie.
Big Fish, the absolute best
9. how old are you?
I was born in 02 so you do the maths lmao
10. school, university, occupation, other?

11. do you prefer heat or cold?
Cold, hk is pretty hot and humid most times and even our “cold” is warm compared to most places so I absolutely prefer cold weather
12. name one fact others may not know about you.
I play the electric guitar, not very well, but I do know how to play
13. are you shy?
Ask me this 3 months ago I would say yes, but recently I’ve discovered that I’m not as shy or bad at talking to new people as I’ve convinced myself that I am the past years? I’m still not that keen on it but it seems like I can naturally channel that type of “outgoing” energy when I need to.
14. preferred pronouns?
She/her
15. biggest pet peeves?
When people make decisions without thinking abo consequences, or just a lack of common knowledge in general
16. what is your favorite “dere” type?
Tsunderes I guess?

7, would have been higher if it wasn’t for all the deadlines I have coming up this week lol
18. what’s your main blog?
@secondhand-trash
19. list your side blogs and what they’re used for.
@secondhand-eats , it’s my new side blog for food logging purposes
20. is there something people need to know about you before becoming friends?
I rely heavily on other people reaching out because I hate the feeling of being annoying or making other people feel like they have to talk to me😌if you message me at any time while I’m still awake and not at work there’s a very high chance that I’ll reply quickly because I’m on my phone 24/7 lol I’m not the most empathetic person because I’m mostly logic driven and I don’t really do verbal expressions of affection (same with confrontation, I hate confrontation), the way I talk online is pretty much the same as how I act irl lmao

Hello! I just recently got HK and I wanted to pick your brain about something. The point of the Knight coming to seal the Radiance is that they're truly hollow enough to do it. That they had no will, no desires, etc. But they clearly display a will and a desire to explore and help the citizens of Hallownest. Even before they see their past and gain the voidheart. Is it just player-game dissonance or does the Knight posses a mind that's not understandable by PK, Radiance, and White Lady?
There’s, a lot of bits to this (and I am about to go to bed for the night so I don’t have time to dig them up) but my longstanding contention, put simply, has always been that PK is an unreliable narrator on the “emptiness” of vessels.
Because the character of the Abyss is not truly empty. If anything, it is abundant, overflowing.
You can, through the game, direct Ghost to behave as something who genuinely has nothing in their mind but PK’s objective. You can ignore everyone who doesn’t physically stop you, disregard anything that you can’t proceed without. There are programmed reactions to this- Elderbug trying vainly to get your attention, Hornet not opening up to you by Herrah’s bedside- and it locks you into the worst ending. You also, taking that run, are given the least information about what’s going on. You basically won’t even know the significance of what you’re doing, but you will be warned of its futility.
To get the better endings- to actually affect any sort of meaningful long-term change in the world, and specifically to better harness and wield the Abyss’s power, you have to direct Ghost to not act like a robot with no feelings. You have to poke around, you have to investigate things, you have to pry deeply into the world and the things that live there. You have to not only express curiosity about the game world, but be stubborn and aggressive about it.
This is not only conflated with more content, more lore- but this is what unlocks the Abyss and renders it onto Ghost’s use. Allegedly, the Abyss is “perfect emptiness”.
But what does that mean to be truly hollow? PK thought it meant a total absence of emotion- and I think in that sense, PK’s the last narrator we should trust. Why? Because, well, PK ruined basically everything- including himself- over his basic inability to understand emotions. PK and feelings are not on speaking terms. PK basically died because he can’t manage his emotions worth jack nor shit.
And it’s Hollow- the, arguably, “failed” vessel- who has strong themes of emotional suppression, of trying to truly Feel Nothing. Hollow, whose void-affinity is relatively weak, but, who, compared to Ghost, has a way better affinity for gleaming, silvery light as exemplified with the Pure Vessel boss fight- silvery light much like the Pale King, mister Terrible At Feelings himself. The exchange at the end of the Path of Pain, to me, is damning evidence that not only did PK know full well Hollow wasn’t emotionless, but he wasn’t emotionless himself; he thought both of them would be fine as long as they personally committed to denying their feelings. It didn’t work for either of them.
Ghost- who, the further you go into the game, is increasingly drummed as Abyss Incarnate, the Lord of Shades? Ghost has feelings. They have regrets. It’s not just player projection- the fact that Ghost produces a shade on death, that they have to grapple and contend with, is in-universe called attention to as that Ghost has regrets- intense, dark, violent regrets- that they are grappling with.
The Void Heart- mastery of the Abyss- does not destroy the Shade. It instead stabilizes the Shade. Arguably, the more “void regalia” Ghost gathers to themselves- the Shade cloak, the void-tinted spells- the more that they actually leak their shade through the controlling, fettering, “have no feelings” mask.
Getting the better endings requires awakening the Dream Nail to its full potential- which the Seer states happens because you are literally gathering others’ dreams to yourself.
I think the true nature of the Abyss’s “hollowness” is not actually lacking feelings, but accepting feelings. Because in a completionist run of the game, rather than a minimalist speed run that the game canonizes to better condemn- Ghost effectively acts as a medium to Hallownest’s restless spirits.
Throughout the game, even as you hone your strength and skills and gain power to affect more and more of the world, you are called upon to listen. To accept. To behold that which people want to show you, want to say, want to confess to someone. Even your enemies; the Failed Champion and Soul Tyrant don’t yield their crop of essence just to being defeated. Rather, you have to hear out what reads very much like their last regrets. They want to clarify themselves, they want to cry out- even into the darkness- that they were alive, that they cared, that they wanted something, that they tried.
This is not a dispassionate act. Being a confessor (and Jiji literally holds that title, being a very void-aligned individual who’s able to call your Shade to you and is very impressed by the Void Heart) is an act of active empathy.
But effective empathy does require not being preoccupied with yourself. You can’t be filled with your own thoughts and feelings if you are letting others’ flow through you cleanly.
Ghost clearly is themselves. They have a part of themselves that they don’t give to anyone, and don’t let anyone else define. Throughout the game, lots of people question Ghost- interrogate or simply remark on their silence, wonder what it’s like to be them, what they feel, what they think.
The message we get heavily throughout the dialogue is that Ghost has opinions and personality- they make decisions we as the player don’t. For example, listening to Hornet in Beast’s Den, she clearly reacts to Ghost giving her a look.
You can talk to everyone holding a delicate flower in your inventory, but Ghost will only show it to some people, and that’s clearly not a decision based only in who asks for it, since you can offer it to people who don’t want it. It’s not player-directed either, outside of the ultimate yes/no prompt and getting the flower there in the first place.
So I think true or “perfect emptiness” in Hollow Knight isn’t the absence of emotion, but accepting it; and basically the idea of being a ‘perfect vessel’ or a true heir to the Abyss’s power is basically a question of how effective of a medium or empath you are. Because that’s not a stripe you earn by Avoiding Attachment or refusing to act in a sentimental manner to people, and actually doing that locks you out of abyssal apotheosis. Instead, the “True path” that empowers Ghost requires an amount of dawdling, poking around, investigating, and above all else engaging emotionally with people that cannot be explained in a being that doesn’t have any thought or desire of their own.
Especially since the Void Heart itself is only accessible if Ghost actually seeks out answers for their own past. White Lady doesn’t tell you that you should or that you must go seek out the place you were born- she just says it’s an option, if Ghost wills it, now that they have the Kingsoul. And while she remarks afterwards that she’s not sure if you feel anything anymore, to me, that suggests that Ghost has transcended, the way White Lady is aware of you using the Dream Nail on her and basically makes sure you don’t get at anything she doesn’t want you to. (and, it’s further confirmation that before the Void Heart, she was picking up feelings from Ghost)
TL;DR I think the Pale King is an unreliable narrator about the true nature of the Abyss because of his own issues with emotional suppression; the true nature of the Abyss is not Without Emotion as much as it is accepting and reaching a state of peace with one’s own emotions and the emotions of others.

A fellow user who wishes to remain anonymous sent me these pictures.
Tumblr media
For the first one, the very middle banner (red on left, teal on right, white words) says "I went to the marches and gatherings. Cathay Pacific can fire me now." This is in reference to the fourteen (plus) employees who lost their jobs at Cathay Pacific (HK'S flagship airline) because of their differing political allegiances a while back (for the record, the former CEO did not appear to be a Blue Ribbon, but the new one definitely is).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second and third are aimed at the Americans and the French, respectively. The Second Amendment of the US Constitution protects the people's right to keep and bear arms. Although I support strong gun control policies, it is somewhat reasonable that this be brought up, considering how the police have arrested people for the possession of "offensive weapons", i.e. laser pointers, as well as snuck weapons into their bags and then arrested them for the charge. The third one references the French Revolution, comparing the LegCo (Legislative Council) with the Bastille and Mainland China with the tyranny of the king, the clergy and the nobility (the First and Second Estates General, respectively).
Tumblr media
This banner (which can be read in both English and Traditional Chinese) refers to the fact that the cops allegedly killed some protesters during the Skirmishes at the MTR stations in the past week or so, and that the government has not yet addressed the issue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first piece of artwork shows a girl in a helmet and a gas mask. The words on the helmet mean "please do not shoot in the direction of protesters' heads", addressing the problem that some cops have been aiming at the heads of the protesters, of whom have been injured by the shots.
The second one shows text meaning "God bless Hong Kong", and the third means "Hongkongers, Add Oil". 'Add oil' is literally translated from a Cantonese/Chinese slang phrase meaning 'go' and 'keep it up' in an encouraging manner. It was added to the Oxford Dictionary about a year ago.
Tumblr media
This poster refers to the Mass Transit Railway as the "Most Terrible Railway", and in Chinese, 港鐵 (pronounced "gong teet", lit. HK railway) as 黨鐵 (pronounced "dong teet", lit. gang/triad/ally - often used derogatorily - railway). This is because skirmishes have been occurring quite regularly in MTR stations, from Prince Edward to Sha Tin, last night. On top of this, the actions of the MTR company, e.g. closing down stations, may indicate support for the police force - which owns over half of the MTR in the first place.
(Also, the translations above are what they symbolize, not really their literal meanings, because Chinese doesn't create new words often - we combine pre-existing logograms to form new concepts, like how 'computer' is literally 'electricity brain' and 'notes' - as in notebook - means 'pen record'.)
For the record, the skirmish at Sha Tin was recorded live. I saw it on (CC)TVB last night, and without context, you would think they protesters were the crazy ones (exactly what they want the 'uneducated' public to think) - some were throwing (thankfully empty) trash bins, mooncake tins and umbrellas at the cops, who had to wrestle down a protester to handcuff him.
Meanwhile, this morning, an associate (not same person as above) sent me this picture from University Station of the East Rail Line:
Tumblr media
The words spray-painted onto the wall by the station entrance/exit says 'jump (over the) gates', essentially telling any supporters not to pay for their subway fees (so that the "anti-protest" MTR earns less money and thus receives less support). They also spray-painted the University Station sign outside the station to say "Gang Railway" as well but my informant did not get a good picture of it. Although I am not happy about the alleged MTR support for the government either, I am disappointed in how whoever that did this spray-painted on the walls and signs. Though I am anti-government myself, I do not condone lawbreaking to this extent, i.e. vandalism.
Tumblr media
This final picture from my initial informant states a message that translates to "By the power of the truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe". I do hope that the truth will set us free, but alas, we will have to continue our uphill battle to take back the night.

You both know me inside and out ahhhh
@alartes-draws @midoriyaizukustan
This is under a read more bc it’s so long alfajfalk
Shouto
favorite thing about them
GOD he’s my absolute favorite so like everything is my favorite thing about him. But my #1 thing that I absolutely adore is that he is very willing and open to grow and to like accept criticism. I know for a fact I don’t like receiving criticism. But him? Izuku has yelled at him to like basically get him to see that he had to make the fire quirk he had his own rather than associate it with his father. That’s TOUGH to do. That’s YEARS of self-hatred and abuse and repressing his power and just looking at it as a way to see his father. But he took Izuku’s words to heart, that he could do with his fire quirk what he wanted because it was his. And he grew so much because he accepted his words. I would have been like “You don’t know me! You don’t know what I’ve gone through! You have no right to tell me that!” But not Shouto. Shouto has taken other types of criticism from Aizawa as well, telling him he depends on his quirk and that’s why he went after him first during his final exam. And then he was able to realize “Huh, I really should have given Momo a chance to tell me her plan, she had something to say.” And then he has her tell him her plan. And then during Kamino, (yes, Tenya got on his case, but he was like “we aren’t gonna fight, we’re gonna sneak around, my dude”) when they were against the wall and Izuku is like “I have a plan!!!” He’s like “TELL US YOUR PLAN”. Like he is not the only one who gets to take charge and share his plans. Also when in*sa was being very passive aggressive towards him, Shouto went up to him and asked if he’d’ done something to him and when he told him about their past, Shouto was like ah fuck I fucked up, but I liked that he was willing to confront this very large guy to resolve this issue. He is like very accepting and open to new ideas and he makes mistakes and still goes off on his own (provisional license exam where you at), but he is still able to take these like criticisms and examples and learn from them. He’s a great character and his growth has been so progressive and amazing and I am so thankful to Horikoshi for this character holy shit.
least favorite thing about them
I hate that he calls k*tsuki his friend despite k*tsuki being a God awful character. Shouto, sweetie, you deserve better friends. k*tsuki has been compared to endeav*r, your abusive father. Please please, you have the whole izucrew and class 1A (except m*neta) right there. You can have Momo and Izuku and Tenya and Ochako and Eijirou as your bffs. Please honey, please, I’m begging you. Please stop calling him your friend. He is not a friend, he is bitch ass gremlin.
favorite line
[softly] “Midoriya”
brOTP
OOF I love him with Momo (rich kids bitching about shit), OCHAKO (brother/sister dynamic where they bicker and talk in code, thank you Redd and C), Tenya (such a wholesome friendship), Izuku (they would be super close best friends come on), and of course him with Fuyumi and Natsuo having a nice sibling relationship with a hilarious group chat to boot (have you read make this feel like home by carolinaa? If you haven’t, go read it, it’s so good and the group chat they have, that is what I’m talking about, that’s the good stuff.) I like him with class 1A in general (except k*tsuki and m*neta ew gross).
OTP
TodoDeku!!!! This has got to be my favorite ship I’ve had thus far in my fandom experience. Like I’ve had OTPs where I’m absolutely wild for them (fr//–//uk, haru//–//michi, ever//–//lark, ed//–//win) and I’ve given my 110% like I am giving this ship, but like….this ship……..is so damn SOFT. And it gives me the warm fuzzies and it makes me so incredibly stupidly happy and I want them to be happy and they’re just so precious WOW.
nOTP
Mmmm every other ship BUT SPECIFICALLY todoyikes (aka todonono aka todo//–//momo), todo//–//baku, ina//–//todo. These three ships really give me the Stroke^TM feeling like I need a squeeze toy and happy messages when I come across them. Big No Nos. Never mention them to me unless you want to hate on them with me. I would say every other todo ship is my notp, but I can tolerate them, like I’ve seen ships like iida//–//todo and shou//–//chako (went into the tag bc I’m not a fucking coward *five minutes later* haha lmfao never mind), and they’re okay.
random headcanon
I have so many, but one of my favorites is that as a pro hero, he has so much Dad^TM energy and adopts all of his interns and treats them so kindly. He is supportive of their education and growth and basically just wants to see them succeed in life. He loves his interns. they’re all his children.
Another random headcanon is that Shouto has a beautiful singing voice and he got it from his mother. He sings when he feels particularly sad or when he wants to cheer up (himself and his friends and siblings), and he also writes lyrics at times. He is also good at playing guitar, but is shy about expressing these talents, until the izucrew catches him singing in the kitchen while he was cooking one time.
unpopular opinion
I like that he’s oblivious, but also I believe that once he gets older, he is not as dense anymore and learns to pick up on social cues. BUT he likes to pretend to be dense and fuck with people.
song i associate with them
I listen to the OST more often than not and I really like Nevertheless, Go Beyond. That song comes out when he arrives at the battle vs. HKS. It gets me hyped. As for a song with lyrics, I like the song Weak by AJR. It’s really good. There’s an AMV that I’m just like bruh…yes.
favorite picture of them
Tumblr media
I love whenever he is on screen because he is so pretty, so basically all of the series is my favorite picture of him.
BUT ALSO
Tumblr media
AND THERE’S MORE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
DO IT FOR HIM
Tenya
favorite thing about them
HE’S SO EARNEST AND REALLY INTO THINGS LIKE HE GETS ME TO DO THINGS. HE’S ALSO REALLY PROPER??? I LOVE THIS SQUARE BOY. Also his dedication to everything he does, absolutely everything he has ever done has had so much enthusiasm, he’s so passionate. Also him standing up for the girls when m*neta wants to harass them. We stan an icon.
least favorite thing about them
I don’t like that he punched Izuku in that one episode when k*tsuki gets kidnapped and the kids are like “We’re gonna go save him yeet”. I understand where he was coming from, but I still didn’t like that.
favorite line
[To Izuku, holding him back from leaping into danger against AFO] “I will…protect you!”
brOTP
Izuku, Shouto, Momo, Ochako, Aoyama, everyone in class 1A can be in a bromance with him (except k*tsuki and m*neta bc he deserves better).
OTP
Iichako! I love love love them so much. He really cares about her!!! And she really cares about him!!!! I also like him with Momo!!! And Mei!!! And Aoyama!!!
nOTP
With Izuku and Shouto. I just cannot. I think he sees them as brothers more than anything.
random headcanon
He helps his classmates train to improve on their speed and he gives them tips as well as stretching exercises and routines since he knows what to do with speed.
Also when he’s a pro hero, he owns an agency with his brother and they are both the bosses and he takes care of a lot of administrative things, so he may not get to do a lot of hero work like the heroes that work for them, but he does get to go out into the field often and trains interns.
unpopular opinion
Tenya with long hair and an undercut is good. Give it a chance.
song i associate with them
Runnin’ by Adam Lambert is a great song!!!
favorite picture of them
Tumblr media
Look at how precious he is!
Ochako
favorite thing about them
I like that she is figuring out how to be her own kind of hero. She also is into self-improvement and I admire that she went to intern under someone like Gun Head to learn hand-to-hand combat! That’s really rad! She’s here to kick all of our asses!
least favorite thing about them
I hate how everyone tells her she has a crush on Izuku instead of her figuring it out on her own without prompting. Like please let her have her character arc without it including her feelings for a guy. Let her have her character development. Let her shine without this coming up for God’s sake. She is such an amazing character and I love her so much. Please I am begging. She deserves her own background and history. I don’t want it to focus on just her feelings. That’s just ugh. it leaves such a bad taste in my mouth, it’s really personal.
favorite line
I can’t remember the lines exactly, but when she’s talking to her dad, that scene really hits me in the heart. That entire conversation, I really felt that. Thanks for the feels, Horikoshi.
brOTP
MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE IS SHOUTO AND HER AND I THINK WE ALL KNOW THIS, BUT LET ME JUST SCREAM ABOUT IT FOR A LITTLE MORE. I LOVE THESE TWO SO MUCH WHAT THE FUCK. THEY HAVE THAT DYNAMIC I DESCRIBED ON MY SHOUTO BROTPS AND LIKE JUST PICTURE THEM HAVING REALLY FUNNY, AGGRESSIVELY FRIENDLY CONVERSATIONS, PLEASE OPEN YOUR 3RD EYE AND UNDERSTAND WHAT I’M SAYING HERE, THEY ARE A GOOD BROTP, THEY ARE BFFS, THEY WOULD LEGIT TAKE A HIT FOR EACH OTHER. I’M ASCENDING I LOVE THEM SO MUCH.
I also love her with Izuku, Tenya, Eijirou, Tsu, Momo, the rest of the girls, Mei, Aoyama, Tokoyami, pretty much everyone except those two characters I keep mentioning that I don’t like.
OTP
Iichako! But I also like her with Tsu and Momo.
nOTP
Izu//–//Ocha (I have talked about this on my blog and it rings a personal chord with me so I cannot bring myself to like it, plus it feels so forced and I just can’t get into it and I don’t care for it), k*c//–//chako (just no, she deserves so much better than that)
random headcanon
She becomes the combat specialist for the agency she works for in the future. She is very skilled in hand-to-hand combat and trains the heroes and sidekicks. Nobody can beat her. She is the best fighter in the agency. RIP villains and anyone that takes her on. She can even beat Izuku, Shouto, and Tenya, who are arguably super strong and big burly men. She is not smol though. When she’s a pro, she’s ripped, she’s muscular and very agile and quick. Beware of her. Once she enters a fight, she comes out victorious. She will come for your kneecaps.
unpopular opinion
Ochako is fucking feral. Did you see her fight k*tsuki??? She really came for his throat. She should have won. But Horikoshi is a fucking coward. What a shame.
song i associate with them
I like Fight Song by Rachel Platten for her.
