Being the wife of a prince, a prince-regent no less, always felt like an honor. People would bow at you in the corridors, maids would bring you your favorite sweets without asking, courtiers would invite you to countless luncheons and extravagant events. It made you wonder, though– was it out of respect for your station– or out of fear for your husband?
He was constantly your shadow now, insisting on being with you at every waking moment ever since the maesters confirmed your pregnancy. His hand would constantly be guiding you on the middle of your back, towards whatever destination you were off to. He would insist you eat more for the babe, would rub your feet and prop pillows behind your back when you both retired for the day.
As he shepherded you into the throne room, he glanced at the courtesans and sworn lords alike– he had worn the crown since his brother fell from the sky in flames, burnt and scarred. He melded into the role like he was meant for it, as you so told him.
‘It looks better on you than it ever did on him, husband.’
‘Careful now, dear wife. That sounds treasonous, does it not?’
It wasn’t hard to spur him on into a feral state of being lately, as he adored your body filling out, belly stretching, breasts growing as you carried his child. His, his. He was still cold, in his way, of course– that would be something you would never pull him out of.
‘Husband?’ you had mewled softly as you came back from the maester’s chambers after receiving the news.
Aemond was sitting on the loveseat in front of the fire, one hand parting the pages of a book. He looked deep in thought, bristling slightly at being interrupted. ‘What?’
‘I’ve just come from the maester’s chambers,’ you started, walking slowly towards him like a skittish animal.
‘Why? Are you hurt?’ he closed his book with a loud snap and set it aside. ‘Come.’ he prostrated himself on the couch, legs spread slightly as an indication.
You lifted your skirts and sat upon his lap, as you do– as he commands, usually. It was easy to know what he wanted without words. He inspected your face carefully, turning you from side to side, skin taut between thumb and forefinger. Then, the back of his hand felt your forehead. ‘You aren’t running a temperature. You aren’t sick, are you, little wife?’
‘N-No… I had thought so with… the issues of late.’
‘Issues? What issues?’ he pressed, his lone eye boring into you with intensity.
‘I… ehm… have had an upset stomach– and… my…’ you blushed as you spoke. ‘My breasts have been tender.’
‘... hm.’
‘The maesters– they… inspected, thoroughly. They say I am with child… two moons.’
‘Pregnant. You’re… pregnant?’
‘Y-yes.’
Aemond stared at you for a long moment, not blinking. You had feared his reaction, you weren’t sure why, though. You knew your husband… liked you, didn’t he? In his own, special way. The way that he loved to call you stupid and bite you and choke you and never tell you that he loves you, except when lost in the throes of pleasure.
‘Husband?’ you squeaked out, anxiety swirling in the pit of your stomach at his lack of reaction. Aemond was good at concealing his emotions– but you could see the pupil of his violet eye dilating like a creature in the dark.
‘Good,’ he said simply, a hand on your waist, squeezing slightly. Then, a moment of recollection came over his face and he stopped squeezing, letting his hand laze on the curve of your body.
‘... good?’
‘Yes. Good. Do you wish praise for doing your duty?’ he grunted, already beginning to unlace your bodice. He wriggled it down your chemise and pawed one of your breasts. ‘Hm.’
‘W-what?’
‘They do seem… larger.’
He was gentle to you that night and every night after that. In touch and act alone– his words still left much to be desired.
As you both perused the throne room, approaching the iron throne, Aemond’s jaw clenched in irritation. You were well along in your pregnancy now, eight moons, and were quite round and stout, feeling all the part of a plump trout carrying eggs, trying to swim upstream–
“Where is the chair?” Aemond barked suddenly, causing you to jump.
“T-the chair, your grace?” one of the servants mumbled.
“The chair for my lady wife, you fool. Do you expect her to stand?” He thoroughly scared the daylights out of the poor servant, who rushed off to find a chair. “Incompetent.”
“... I pray he returns soon– my ankles are protesting this walk.” you murmured.
“If all of these prying eyes weren’t here,” Aemond whispered in your ear. “Mayhaps I’d have you sit with me on the throne.”
The thought of it sent a thrill through you, tingling all the way to the base of your spine and beyond. It was a wonderful fantasy, but you couldn’t get the logistics of it out of your head– you would certainly impale yourself on one of the unruly swords. “Mayhaps we can arrange something in our chambers after this, husband?”
Aemond uttered a sound between a growl and a quiet moan before guiding you further to your seat, now properly prepared. You leaned back on the chair, adorned with a pillow, putting a hand over your swollen belly.
As much as you appreciated Aemond’s… concern and vigilance with having you everywhere with him, you wished you could skip the tedious things. Your mind wondered the entirety of the session, tuning out the droning voices of the lords and only focusing on your husband’s. He sounded so powerful, commanding his lessers as if they were the sheep and he the shepherd. You didn’t lie when you thought the crown looked better on him than Aegon– Aemond was more suited towards this life.
You know he wanted it all– the title, the crown, but not at the expense of his brother, never at his expense– so he would have to be content with what he could make for himself. That included you and your unborn child. You wished so dearly that it would be a son, a son for him to continue his bloodline, his legacy.
Finally, the meeting ended and Aemond all but swept you off your aching feet to your rooms. He set you down on the bed and undressed you without much ceremony. “I couldn’t keep my mind off of you that entire time– if I were a lesser man… I may have not waited until our chambers to succumb to you.” he whispered, dragging kisses up from your knees, to your thighs and then your belly.
A gentle, but calloused, hand wrought over the stretched skin. He loved touching your belly, he couldn’t get enough of it– he was a scholarly man in all accounts, secretly in wonder of the machinations of the human body and how it could vessel something like another person. He would never admit this, of course, but you could tell just by how his eye roved your form, how he took in every detail. He parted your legs, swiping a finger between your already soaked folds– as it didn’t take much for you to become feral these days, either. You had been since he suggested the idea of the throne, forced to squeeze your thighs together through the duration of the hearing to relieve some of the ache.
“So wet for me already, are you?” he hummed, gathering your slick with two fingers this time and kissing your thigh, so close, so close to your aching center.
“... y-yes, husband– you kept me waiting,” you murmured. In your pregnancy, you’d become indignant and spoiled– and he let you. “So cruel.”
“Cruel?” Aemond questioned, a brow raised. “Cruel– you know me cruel, my dear wife,” he growled, parting your folds and licking a line from bottom to top. “Cruel would be… letting you sit for hours longer on the edge and not giving it to you,” he anointed his point by roving his tongue over your pearl, eliciting a keening whine from you. “Or mayhaps, not giving it to you at all. Shall I be cruel, wife?”
You shook your head fervently. “P-please, Aemond,” you panted, the heat of the moment and your out-of-whack hormones already making you perspire, sweat beading at your forehead. You felt like a bitch in heat, every touch of him on you was like a thousand sparks from a flint, trying to light your pleasure, trying, trying– but then dying, but it was always so close, on the precipice. “Touch me– don’t tease me.”
“Hm,” he roved it over in his mind for a faux moment. “You are doing so well carrying my child, aren’t you?”
“Y-yes, please!”
“Mayhaps I will reward you for being a good wife, a good mother.”
“Please, my king,” you whimpered, using his title only reserved for bedplay. You wanted it bad, and he knew.
Once again, his pupil waxed and waned like the moon phases, like the ebbing and flowing tide– and then he began to feast upon you like the animal he truly was. His tongue roved over your sensitive core, suckling and nipping. Your hand flew to his hair, clenching it into your fist. He had become so expert in pleasing you with his mouth, something he only started after you became pregnant– you hoped this would stay.
“A-Aemond, f-fuck,” you cursed, throwing your head back on the pillow, clutching his silky strands between your fingers. “M-more, your grace–”
He lavished you like he was starved, not letting up at any point to even let you breathe– it was a constant assault on your clit, with only a few moments of relief when he caught his breath, looking up at you like the cat who got the cream, a smug grin on his face, the glisten of your essence on him. His thumb finished what his tongue started, kneading over your sensitive bud as you babbled and cried, fluttering around nothing as you came.
You heard the sound of his belt undoing, and his hand was in yours, guiding you to his rock hard member. “Don’t you see what you do to me, hm? I quite like you round, so full of my child,” he said as he lined up with your entrance, sliding in with no resistance. “Mayhaps I shall keep you like this and we will have an entire castle full of children.” he stayed upright, hands on your thighs. You still ached for his hand around your throat, so badly– but it wasn’t good for the babe.
He began a slow, almost lazy pace, staring down at you now as he loomed like a shadow, picking up his speed. As he sped up, he reached up and tore off his eyepatch, throwing it aside. The sapphire in his eye socket gleamed at you and you swore you could see yourself reflected into it–
It didn’t take long for him to reach his own peak, grunting and growling, balls tightening. His hand also itched so desperately to lace around your throat like a necklace, but his hand just twitched and clawed into the sheets as he emptied himself into you. He, regrettably to both of you, pulled out and encircled himself around you, arms resting on your ribs as you were lulled to sleep by his breathing and closeness.
You awoke, not knowing how many hours later, to him speaking. “Nyke jaelagon ao emagon aōha muñnykeā's pungos.” I hope you have your mother’s nose. “Ao'll rhaenagon gūrēñare lēda iā egros rȳ izula. Iā kostilus tōma. Aōha muña kessa daor hae ziry, nyke gīmigon.” You'll start training with a sword at age four. Or perhaps five. Your mother will not like it, I know.
His head was laid near your belly, faced away from you, his hand draped over it softly. He didn’t know you were awake– he was… speaking to the baby. You could only catch bits and pieces of what he was saying– but it didn’t matter. It wasn’t a conversation for you to know. You closed your eyes once more.
“M-may the mother… guide me… and bless me with a son,” you murmured. “Bless us with a son, please.” you groaned as you tried to get up, your knees bruised and sore. You had been praying every day for the last fortnight as your delivery loomed closer. You feared to give him a daughter– as accompanying as he’d been during your pregnancy, you knew… you knew what he wanted. And you knew it was a coin flip to give him what he wanted.
You felt heavier than usual, finding it difficult to get back up after being down for so long– you felt a strain in your lower back, then an acute pop. A gush of wetness flowed down your legs. “A-ah– ser!” you called to your sworn sword, a member of the Kingsguard picked by Aemond specifically to be with you at all times when he wasn’t around. Presently, Aemond was taking a ride upon Vhagar. “Ser!”
“My lady?” the Kingsguard rushed in, eyes wide. “Are you alright?”
“T-the… the babe–”
“Why wasn’t I notified?” Aemond growled, stalking through the corridors as he paced to the maester’s quarters.
“Y-You were in the sky, your grace– we didn’t know how to reach you–”
“Fuck’s sake– is she alright, then?”
“Yes– uhm…”
“Uhm? What? Is my wife alright or not?!”
“Yes– she and the babe are alright.”
Aemond fumed as he opened the doors, eye zeroing in on the maester, then you. You were mortified, crying, holding a little bundle against your breast.
“A-Aemond,” you croaked. You were shaking like a leaf.
“Congratulations, your grace,” the maester spoke. “It is a healthy baby girl.”
Girl.
Girl.
Girl.
You couldn’t stop sobbing as you watched his face, impassive, turn to confusion, to longing, to grief, to anger, to…. Nothing. He stared at you blankly then.
“Aemond– please– I- I prayed to the Gods every day for a son, I’m sorry,” you blubbered. “I’m so sorry–”
“Don’t.” Aemond’s voice snapped like a whip as he walked closer. “Let me see the babe.”
You offered the bundle to him– a baby girl. She had curls of red hair like you and lavender eyes like her father. Sensing movement and a change of presence, the baby sneezed, staring up at her father. He stared back, his expression unreadable. “Vaella. Her name is Vaella.” he didn’t ask, nor suggest. He declared. Glancing back at you, he spoke quietly. “We will just have to try again, won’t we, wife?” His tone was like a fog upon you– it was proposed like a thinly veiled threat, a promise– but then his gaze softened almost imperceptibly. You wonder if you imagined it. “Kirimvose, ñuha dōna ābrazȳrys.” Thank you, sweet wife. “Ñuha hūra,” My moon. He turned back to Vaella, whispering. “Se ñuha qēlossās.” And my stars.
Aemond ended up getting his heir and then some, a year and a half later. You gave birth to triplets. All boys.
Maegon, Vaelar, and Rhaelor.

the ghost of your bloodline
you were doomed from the start, weren’t you? born to bend yourself to the will of a bloodline that sneers at every effort you take towards betterment. you are stained by the hand of your father, your mother, perhaps a family member that looms over your weary shoulders. the first grave is the childhood home, after all. you can escape all you wish. your body can leave the home, the state, the country, but you will always be haunted by what raised you. when chelsea dingman wrote, “i have been trying to go home my entire life.” when graham greene wrote, “from childhood i had never believed in permanence, and yet i had longed for it.” when oscar wilde wrote, “a burnt child loves the fire.”

— with fire in his veins, and steel armor beneath his skin ⸻ he is the fiery blade itself, vowing an oath to always protect those who's nearest and dearest to his heart. born on the seventh month of the year, during the fire nation's most blistering summers, yoon jaewon's birth was celebrated by his parents and his aunt as another addition to the joyous family and being the first son in the yoon's family current lineage. jaewon had been known to be a very energetic but volatile child due to his affinity of burning things down during his many tantrums in the past, having been noted to be an early bloomer as he displayed powers of firebending at the early age of only 3 years old ( what was once a source of pride became a source of headaches for his parents and aunt ) — being the eldest son of the yoon family, as well as the avatar's eldest nephew ; it'd been expected of him to lead his family as the next heir and head of the family, taking charge of the family business. but jaewon who always been one to rebel his parents's expectations, sought out to improve his firebending and had taken up sword-fighting during his primary schooling years, decided to instead join the military and advance through the ranks. — with his prominent relations with the avatar yuha herself and his prodigal firebending skills, jaewon definitely flourished in his military official career and had been advancing through the ranks in rapid pace ( though, not as quick as the rest of the nobles ).
— undoubtedly the bane of his parents' ( and aunt's ) existence for his constant defiance and rebellious attitude towards them, has been often seen arguing with them as they couldn't agree on anything ; not even the simplest of things. despite his strained relationship with the elders of the family, jaewon does truly love them with all his heart — it's just can't be helped that he is so incredibly frustrated with them, and them with him. — he is his siblings' most fiercest defender and protector : being the eldest son of the family, jaewon had deemed its his duty to always protect them from any harm. has been known to have the tendency to be overprotective over them but it is without a doubt, that jaewon was very devoted to his siblings and they always have known that he is the big brother that can be trusted to defend them against anything, especially if its their own parents. — when the fire lord suddenly announced his eldest sister's engagement and the sudden elevation of his family among the nobility, jaewon feels extremely conflicted with this new developments — especially him suddenly being a noble in overnight. — as he couldn't bear the idea of his eldest sister on possibly facing the court alone and couldn't trust the royal family to have his sister's best interests, jaewon made an extremely impulsive decision to resign from his military career and instead join the royal guards, once again defying his parents on their expectations and their attempts to train him to be the family's heir. — and frankly, it'd been quite easy for him to join the royal guards due to his past career as a military official and his affinity with swords ( not to mention, his familial relations with the avatar yuha and the crown prince's newly engaged betrothal ) — whilst he's known to be more impulsive and hot tempered than the rest of his family, jaewon often display a rather charming and friendly facade in social settings — and has been regarded as the light of the parties many times due to how sociable he is. ( however, his lack of rigid noble etiquettes often make him seemed rude and mannerless in the eyes of the nobility. but frankly, he doesn't quite care. ) — has been known to be quite the charmer to the ladies. with his suave, flirtatious persona and chivalrous attitude, it's easy to see why he'd become a popular fixture amongst them. unfortunately, these characteristics of his spark unsavory rumors of him being some sort of player which is infinitely far from the truth. — because despite his tough exterior, jaewon is actually a big romantic who wears his heart on his sleeves and he often dreamed of meeting one true love. — but for now, he rather protect his siblings from harm's ways with all his might ; being the shield and sword for his eldest sister in the treacherous royal court as well perhaps her one trusted ally.
WANTED CONNECTIONS — some nobles he had met before moving into the capital and joining as one of them. friends he had made during celebrations and festivities, former military colleagues! new royal guard colleagues! and even royals he's been stationed to guard ( time to get to know the in laws i guess- ), ex lovers or flings! I'm open to any dynamics and any plots between our muses!

vii.  THE EYE. googling something you shouldn’t have. eureka moments.  the unforgiving lens of a camera.  witness reports.   hidden libraries.  eyes of different colors.  feeling of being watched.  a death recorded in tape.  a tragedy you can’t look away from.   endangering yourself for knowledge.  truth. analog records.  a symbol of an eye. a watch tower.  compulsion to document. turning on recording devices without thinking about it.  saving the evidence before the person. extracting information. truth or dare, without the dare. a thirst for knowledge. books that speak to you. coordinated shelves.  cataloguing systems.  voyeurism.  police report you can’t put down. reasoning your way out.  smell of old papers.  books that read you back.
viii.  THE HUNT. sharp canines.  sore calves after a run.  the scent of blood.  an adventure for the journey’s sake.  the adrenaline right before the kill.  a whistle’s echo. the woods.  the doe eyes of a prey animal.  your own breath in the air.  sharpened claws.  being tracked.  fear of someone knowing your every movement.  hunting down monsters.  hide & seek.  running away only to end up where you started.  staying alive purely because the enemy enjoys seeing you run.  a set of footsteps behind you.  blood dripping from bare hands.  barks & growls.  focused eyes.  a victim going limp under your hands.  a mouth full of fresh blood.  catching the scent of something monstrous.  perfecting your craft.  peering into the dark & running after it.
ix.  THE LONELY. an apartment too small for a double bed.  completely vacant streets.  waking up to see everyone gone.  fog.  point nemo.  a house too big to hear your family members in.  alone in a faceless crowd.  a mask with nothing behind it.  separated cubicles.  a deafening silence where joy should be.  a blinding spotlight.  the least missed in your friend group.  streets without lights in the windows.  isolation.  not truly knowing your friends. your friends not truly knowing you.  need for silence.  fear of crowds.  staring into space knowing nothing is looking back at you.  a ship alone at sea.  depression.  knowing your friends are better off without you.  talking to someone only to realize they’re gone.  a family too large to notice you there.  safety in being alone.
x.  THE SLAUGHTER a game of tag.   senseless violence.  a true crime hobby.   improvised weapons.  blinding rage.  intent to kill.   a horrific day in a quiet community.  a medal of bravery.  holding on to what validates your anger.   history books that spare no details.  an injury you want revenge for.  war.  counting kills.  songs of soldiers.  a knife block on the counter.  a pool of blood.  shellshock.  unspeakable horrors.  anger pushing you forward.  unimaginable pain.  not seeing who will hurt you but knowing the pain is coming.  a fully human monster.  an authority sending its lessers to their deaths.  kill or be killed.  unedited wartime memoirs.  a weapons collection.  not knowing the names of who you kill.  too many to remember.  loss of hope.  there’s no heroes in war.
xi.  THE SPIRAL sleep deprivation.  corridors you can get lost in.  maze puzzles that loop back on themselves.  losing possessions.   losing people.  losing your sanity.  corkscew curls.  rows of funhouse mirrors.  optical illusions.  a separate reality.  walking through the wrong door.   delusions.  not knowing what your hands are doing.  blank spaces in documents.   hallucinations.  wrong proportions.  a nameless thing.  a place that has never existed.  doubting your own mind.  blind faith. losing track of names,  labels, categories.  distorted sound.  an imperfection in a glass that twists the view.  loss of time.  a garish color.  doors that open to nowhere. lies. an unnatural laugh.  jokes & tricks.  illusions.  a doorway.  a sculptor with a wild imagination. limbs in impossible angles.  doing what’s fun, not what’s sensible.  fractals you can get lost in.

xiii.  THE VAST. open spaces.  carnival rides going up & down.  fear of heights.  endless infinity around you.  your insignificance in an universe.  stomach turning at a drop.  fear of not the crash down but the moment you slip.  the sway of a cable car.  an adventure holiday.  losing track of where the surface is.  miles & miles of nothing around you.  staring at the sky & feeling like you may fall into it.  loss of control.  a fall that doesn’t end in death.  glass floor to the view below.  terminal velocity.  the sound of wind in your ears.  a reach over the railing.  a jump from the top of the building. falling into nothing.  feeling your feet let go of the ground.  a leap of faith. motion sickness.

OCs as aesthetics for the entities
Thank you to @inafieldofdaisies, @socially-awkward-skeleton, and @simplegenius042 for this tag! 😘 And apologies now, because this is gonna be a loooooong post! I sucked it up and did all 3 of my babes 😳Feel free to skip on by if you want!
aesthetics for the entities, part i. bold what applies to your muse, italics what applies situationally or only in certain verses. this is based on a horror podcast; potentially triggering and / or upsetting content ahead!
Harley Jane ❤️
i. THE BURIED. weighted blankets. drowning. the comfort of a loved one’s weight. soil & sand piling on top of you. hugging so hard it hurts a little. cramped hiding spots. letting out air underwater to sink to the bottom of the pool. walls pressing in on you. not moving from a position even though you’re cramping a little. dragging the last second before you have to inhale. lonely subways. feeling like one with the earth. a layer of dirt on you. looking for something below. cardboard boxes & tiny pillow forts. hands calloused from digging. knowing that your purpose is just below the surface. entering your final resting place before it kills you. a storm drowning you out. dust & sand speaking to you.
ii. THE CORRUPTION. insects. a close imitation of the natural course of life. an illness in a community. a rag that dirties more than it cleans. an untreated wound. containment. breaching containment. unbreathable air. fungi. one with that you love. one with what loves you. a corpse unfit for a glass case. hearing a song in the sound of tiny wings & legs. honeycomb patterns. an ecosystem within a person. a curse passed on. the hubris of a scientist. an ugly death where a glorious one is owed. blood on a handkerchief. parasites. something pushing up the sewer. a mask to keep something out. trypophobia. knowing you belong. death weeks after impact. fever. food that’s gone off. pandora’s box. death behind a glass.
iii. THE DARK. shadows. lights that turn off by themselves. the feel of cold marble. a beaked creature in the night. the difference between seeing darkness & seeing nothing. touch of something you can’t see. hiding under a blanket. white, clouded eyes. months without going outside during sunlight. pouring dark. unscrewing lightbulbs. black matter. light sensitivity. a starless night. time before light was created. a shadow on the wall without a body to attach to. withering plants. a world without a sun. footfalls in an empty house in the night. a light that doesn’t reach as far as it should. desperate reach for a flashlight. clothes that hide your shape. staying unperceivable. winter months in the north. an empty church.
iv. THE DESOLATION. senseless pain. warmth of faith. wax where skin should be. a blazing fire. heat without a source. the third or fourth tragedy in the family. losing everything you’ve ever held dear. so much to live for, gone so soon. the smell of gasoline. touch that scars. coffee cup that never goes cold. scorch marks on wood. inescapably warm air. a child born in fire. death of a loved one. a candle without a flame. an altar in the middle of the woods. animals with burnt fur. plastic explosives. burning hot metal. sweating in an interrogation room. never touching a loved one. disfigurement. kiss that ruins you. the scent of burning fat. a tattoo that terrifies its viewer. the agony of hellfire displayed as art. auburn hair. little clothing in cold weather. a ripple in the air. trying to cool down in vain.
v. THE FLESH. body horror. factories. a hunger for something more filling. never quite happy with how you look. the terror of an animal waiting for slaughter. a very good meal. the liquid of a perfect steak. fighting your worst survival instincts. a twisted bone. long nights working out. more than one heart. appearance that shapes like clay. a bag of bones. bone broth in a pot. knowing to fear pigs. the butcher’s shop. plastic surgery. something alien inside your body. a hunger in the gaze laid upon you. unwitting cannibalism. forgetting what you used to look like. being admired for your appearance & appearance only. teeth marks on skin. scars from wounds that should’ve killed you. cooking in scarcity. fenced in with one way to go.

Old Friend, Old Love ( L.L x Reader)
Chapter 1
Masterlist
“No!” I beg, tears streaming down my face as I frantically try and get out of the ropes that bind me as sobs wrack my body. My tears dripped on the firewood at my feet and around my torso. I had broken the rules. I had touched the devil’s color. I had not simply done that either, but I had worn it. I wore a red flower in my hair.
Red.
The color of Satan himself. We’re supposed to burn any red we see and kill anyone with any red. Of course, blood is an exception. Our blood is red and represents how sin is engraved in our very being, which is why we bloodlet when we fall ill.
Those who wear red, adorn their homes with red, or bring red into churches are all burnt. So here I am, tied to a charred wooden pole, covered in red flowers, dirt, and firewood, with the elders standing before me.
“ People of God, let this be a warning,” the elderly woman said, voice worn, “ for you and your kids. Satan has infiltrated us and taken one of our youth. Today, we get rid of him. Join us in prayer for this corrupted soul.” As the town kneels in prayer, the priest’s sons set light to the wood.
“No!” I pleaded, “N- no, please! I'll never wear red again, just please!” I beg, panic drenching my voice, my throat sore and raw. The flames spread, their heat lapping at my skin.
“Goodbye, my child.” my mother says teary-eyed.
She let this happen to me. She didn't even try to stop them. Hatred seeping from my glare, I spit out my parting words to this monster.
“ I fucking hate you!” I yell, the flames fully engulfing my feet now. Pain floods my senses, and I let out a guttural scream. I say the only words I can think of.
“Hail Satan!”
I know the priest’s family heard me, a sense of pride washing over me, quickly overcome by the smell of burning flesh. My burning flesh. The fire reaches my abdomen, and the pain is excruciating. The overwhelming heat fills my lungs as I inhale the smoke, accepting my fate as my world goes black, numbness flooding over me, and I barely register the screaming of the townspeople.
            About 450 years later
Everything hurts.
Wait.
Hurts? I'm dead.
Right?
In August 1547, I was burned alive for breaking a church rule.
So why can I feel?
It is dark.
No, my eyes are closed.
As I open my eyes, I see red everywhere. Strands of light that almost look like powder.
I reach out, gasping as the red substance seeps into my skin, filling me with energy. It feels amazing. I can feel it pumping in my veins. Suddenly, the surroundings fade into a room full of light. I look around as my heart races.
“Where am I?” I questioned, although there was no one to answer.
“Avengers tower, Miss Doe”
Doe? My Surname is not doe. It is Alden. My name is Y/N Alden. I looked around the cold room, wondering where the voice had come from. “Where are you, devil!” I threaten with a shaky voice. “I said, show yours-” I am stopped by shouting, one of the voices strikingly similar to my old lover.
Loki.
                                -     Loki's POV -
“Let me see her, Stark!” I demand. When Stark told me they might have found an enhanced from the Renaissance, I didn’t care. But when she came in, I saw a face I thought I wouldn't see again. I saw her.
My old friend. My old lover.
Y/N.
“No. “Stark said. No? What does he mean, No? This mortal has no idea who he is talking to.
“I said,” I threaten, my temper boiling over into my speech, “let me see her!”
He held me back as I lunged to the door. “Unhand me at once!” Stark opens his mouth to say something but is interrupted by the door opening. Then I saw her.
First, I saw her hand, then her leg, then her hospital gown, then her face. She looked shocked, although I could assume my face had the same expression etched on it.
“Loki?” She whispered, hesitantly walking over to me.” I- How are you even alive?” She mused under her breath. I could sense the power radiating from her. “Loki?” she asked me, worried.
“Yes, my Edelweiss?” I respond, the pet name slipping out by habit. I saw three things flash over her face. First, shock. Then, realization. Lastly, anger. Her face contorted into the coldest, most bitter expression he had ever seen.
“You…” she seethed. “You let them burn me!” My stomach dropped to my feet. Her upper lip twisted into an angered scowl. “ You weren’t even there. I bet you ran off with that slut, Annaliese,” she growled, glaring at me. She was distraught and angry. She had a powerful red glow in her dark brown eyes.
“What?”  I ask, not expecting this.
“You… heard me.” Her speech became slurred. Her eyes drooped as she spoke. Before I knew it, she had collapsed.

What ghost haunts you?
Tumblr media
the ghost of rotting truth
you are an actor. you are a performer. you bow to an audience of none but yourself and the gods that know you are a liar. this pain and this longing once drowned you, but time has passed. you were congratulated for your healing. but grief’s icy hands remain inside of your chest, cupping your heart. grief is hooking its fingers under the ridges of your ribcage. with time, it will tear you open. you are meant to bleed slowly. the agony will softly devour you from the back of your memory, and you will smile through it all like it doesn’t hurt, taking your bow when the performance is over. but when the curtains close, do you crumble to your knees? who reaches for you? when the healer falls, who checks to make sure they are alright? silas melvin wrote, “you’re so polite with your sadness. you don’t want to ruin this for anyone.”
Tumblr media
the ghost of your bloodline
you were doomed from the start, weren’t you? born to bend yourself to the will of a bloodline that sneers at every effort you take towards betterment. you are stained by the hand of your father, your mother, perhaps a family member that looms over your weary shoulders. the first grave is the childhood home, after all. you can escape all you wish. your body can leave the home, the state, the country, but you will always be haunted by what raised you. when chelsea dingman wrote, “i have been trying to go home my entire life.” when graham greene wrote, “from childhood i had never believed in permanence, and yet i had longed for it.” when oscar wilde wrote, “a burnt child loves the fire.”
