I swear you would get along super with my previous evolutionary biol prof (Dr. Bulte) from Canada (CU). He loves turtles and I remember him as a kind, humble dude who resembled a french lumberjack of sorts. Does that sound Canadian enough?
Keep up the great blog! 🐸
I am sure we would get on swimmingly! Who doesn't love a good turtle—or a french lumberjack, for that matter‽ I spent some of my afternoon today reorganising a bit in our turtle shell collection at the museum, after returning a specimen that was recently used for a talk. Such fascinating and beautiful animals.

I don't wanna further hijack that poor poll, but the thing about Harrow's schizophrenia is that it's canon. The author has confirmed it, and shared that it's based on her own experience.
It's a pretty obscure bit of canon, so of course there's no shame in not already knowing, but that's why I'm so obnoxiously persistent about letting people know.
Whatever else is up with Harrow, autism or cptsd or any number of likely headcanons, she is also schizophrenic. I feel like that's too important to be handwaved away as a difference of opinion.

Going insane over the way AFO lifts the sword out of his shoulder because it’s so. He doesn’t even use his hand, his palm, to grab it. He uses the back of his hand to lift it up and away
For someone like AFO who we know has a Big Thing with his hands - not just with his quirk but the way he uses them, the way he Offers and gestures, the way they trap and cover - seeing him not even care to properly lift the sword but, instead, lift it with the back of his hand; it’s so clear the attack is nothing to him. The object is nothing to him. By extension, Hawks’ efforts are nothing to him
And the thing is like. This is such a specific gesture. It means so much body language-wise for a character like AFO, but ESPECIALLY because it was drawn by Horikoshi, who has said that “hands are the body part most capable of showing expression and character”
Personally I would have been talking about stuff like this anyway but what gives it more weight and appeal for me is that I know Hori likes drawing hands. That means he puts a lot of care into how hands are drawn. So the fact that I can look at this panel and know that this gesture was drawn with care for how and why the character would do it, that it FITS the character so well, is just really good

i KNOW that oda is aware he's drawn some extremely gorgeous ladies since he obviously does that on purpose (though i believe he's unaware of just how beautiful some ladies he's drawn that stray too far from his usual model are), but I'm, like, pretty much convinced he has absolutely no clue he's also drawn some of the most good looking manga dudes out there. I'm sure he has no idea. He puts down lines and then he's like "???? why are people so obsessed with this guy he has barely shown up ever????" while we're all sitting here going heart eyes or whatever. It's been twenty-six years maybe it's time for him to get on with the program. It's like his experience with benn and ace in the very beginning taught him absolutely nothing

So, in honor of AO3 going live again, and in recognition of @magicalgirlmindcrank being bold enough to post her very good story publicly, I'm going to post my own fics where people may peruse at their leisure.
(Links aren't embedding right for some reason? Sorry)
L'Art et L'Artifice
When giant plant aliens invade in the middle of a heist, Geneviève Diamant, aka the infamous thief La Grenouille, finds herself caught in the act.
Rhapsody in Green
Millie has lived in an isolated life-pod her entire life. She is treated little better than an unintelligent AI by most humans, and is currently serving as a science vessel's navigation computer. What happens when the one human that treats her like a person turns her and the rest of the ship over to the giant plant aliens?
These are both set in the Human Domestication Guide setting, where giant, benevolent, plant aliens conquer humanity for their own good and make the belligerent ones into happy adorable pets.
Read the original story by GlitchyRobo here, and more stuff can be found on the wiki here.

i guess the reason so many books featuring trans characters have them able to go stealth and make it so other characters don't know they're trans unless they say something is because that's an escapist fantasy for many trans authors who don't get that and want to imagine what it's like to live in a world where you don't get misgendered on sight every single day, and because they don't want to write about the latter (very fair)
but also when these are YA books it depends on the characters being able to medically transition at like 14 and i have literally never in my life met a single person who was able to do that (partly because I live in the UK where you can't and also I am old enough that for people my age, coming out as a preteen would've been way harder and rarer than it would be for current teen-aged protagonists)
so idk. i would like to read a book with trans characters who feel like real people living in the real world occasionally. it's hard to walk a path when you never get to see other people do it first and never get to witness it safely in fiction before you experience it IRL, and only ever seeing people walk roads that don't even exist in your reality doesn't really help at all tbh

I told my mom my friend is trans and the next day she was like "I'm confused she is a boy who is a girl who likes boys so she's gay or likes girls" or something I'm not sure she confused me and I'm like sexuality and gender are completely different things, she's bisexual I don't know what the fuck you're asking me it doesn't matter
She said some dump shit like oh bisexual, cool shit if the one doesn't work out they go to the other (yeah bc I am such a player I have bfs and gfs here and there😎)(she doesn't know about me)
And then she's like "oh that means you have a friend who could like you and you're friends 😱" MOM I AM NOT A STRAIGHT GIRL MY REACTION IS NOT OH SO YOU LIKE ME
"I had bisexual friends before, remember T who has a girlfriend? She didn't like me, she has a girlfriend"
"She's bi so she goes with boys too?"
"Well not currently she has a gf😐"
Like. Mom ffs I have like one straight friend. And like even some of my "straight friends" had a gay crush at some point, even if they still identify as straight and this might have been an excitement or something idk I'm not labeling people
