#'in a way that's also just really fun and will be perfect for her character and also really fun for jay to roleplay'
Ok! I watched Chaos Theory! I have a lot of thoughts! There were things I liked a lot and things I wasn’t a fan of. I generally liked it but came away slightly underwhelmed. If you haven’t watched it yet please go do so!!! Support the show and the wonderful crew that put it together!!!
SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT
WHAT I LIKED:
-MATEO!!! I literally loved him so much. A fantastic, simple character that doesn’t overstay his welcome or detract from our main characters. Great motivations and realistic backstory. Yeah. I really liked him. Yeah.
-Yasammy! Obviously they were amazing. They got to be cute and bubbly and gay but also their argument was so real and believable. Neither one of them is completely in the wrong. They are just two flawed people who’ve been through more than they can handle on their own. They need each other but not always in the way they might think. They were such a highlight this season. Can’t wait for more of them.
-This whole show just feels like a dramatic step up in visual storytelling from CC. The sets are beautiful and intricate, the lighting and textures are fantastic, and the directing is just really great. There are some really creative shots and transitions, and overall it just feels like more confident directing and storyboarding all around. (I specifically remember episode 7 being really great visually. Super fun stuff.)
-All the dinosaur action was great. Like next level shit. The way they keep finding creative ways to use these animals for action and suspense is very impressive. The raptors are genuinely scary. The Allosaurus and Pachyrhinosaurus were personal favs.
-Unlike Dominion, they actually showed what living in a world with dinosaurs is like- how people are adjusting to this new way of life, adapting to the presence of these animals, and keeping themselves safe. Totally what I wanted to see from Dominion, and Chaos Theory did it better within a single episode.
-There was some very well crafted suspense throughout this season. The mystery does a great job of constantly keeping you pulled in. Every time a question is answered, five more are asked.
-The darker tone is definitely welcome. The characters are older and they’ve experienced a terrible loss. The weight of the new world weighs on them and the audience in a very tangible way.
-This one isn’t really constructive but like. I just love Darius so much. He’s so perfect.
WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE:
-Unfortunately I thought the character writing was significantly weaker than any season of CC. It was genuinely impressive how they were able to make me not care much about these versions of Ben and Kenji, my absolute favorite characters in CC. Before the characters felt like real, living people. Now, they just feel like fictional characters to me. Really good characters, yes, but still just characters. Maybe I’ll go into further detail about this in a future post. But yeah, overall it felt like the characters took a backseat this time around.
-I’m so sorry but I absolutely could not stand the new VA for Kenji. I’m sure he’s trying his best but he sounded uninterested and half-assed most of the time. Brooklynn’s new actor was… fine? Didn’t care for her either but she didn’t bug me the way Kenji did. Let’s start a GoFundMe to pay for Ryan to come back.
-Ok. Yeah. Not a fan of Darius being in love with B. Like, ok. It makes sense and it fits the plot well. But it just seems unnecessary. Darius can be devastated by her loss without it. Ehhh maybe they’ll handle it well in future seasons but. No. Not for me.
-Also didn’t like Daniel Kon’s death. I liked that they brought him back, but killing him felt undeserved. Like, he was the main antagonist for the first show, but you just kill him off in a random episode six years later? I think he deserved a little more reverence rather than reintroducing him for one episode and then quickly killing him for shock value once he’s served his purpose.
-WHY DID THEY GIVE BEN A GIRLFRIEND THAT BOY IS GAY AS HELL NOOOOO

I wanna start with I love your blog sm and I’m not trying to jump on the train, in fact I don’t even mind if you just read this and don’t post or even just delete after you read, but I know where the “Rook gaslighter” thing comes from and wanted to explain (I also just LOVE talking about rook even if its negative). Im not explaining to change your mind but rather to inform!! Because I love spending hours analyzing the characters, pls don’t stop drawing rook!! Ever!!
ANYWAYS now that “please don’t hate me I have to uncontrollably explain everything about my favorite character(s) the second someone doesn’t know about one small detail 😭” is over, I will explain! During Vil’s lab wear vignette, Rook asks Vil when he’s going to start his new diet. Vil, confused, is like what??? Tf?? And rook is like “yeah :D you have put on 3 pounds exactly :)”. Vil is lowkey like wtf Rook I haven’t noticed shit and rook is like “okayyy but who do you believe? Me or literally anyone else?” And vil is like “yeah you’re right, I’ll adjust my diet, thank you rook”.
The ‘issue’ with the “rook is a gaslighter” is it’s SOLELY a fandom thing (and maybe with other characters, but still, like. Vil is a world class model he CANT put on weight like a normal person could because it’ll unfortunately affect his career. The beauty world is just like that, irl too. Plus, this is something he wants for himself, even if he admits to hating the diets during his overblot, it’s still a part of who he is). Vil, himself, views rook’s behavior as a helpful thing, he appreciates Rook’s supernaturally keen eye! He might be offended but ultimately he would not have Rook as his vice-prez if he didn’t respect or admire Rook in some way.
I adore the way you draw them together!! The one where vil is like “how dare you! Just because he’s strange doesn’t mean he’s like that!” And rook is behind him with blood on his face, he’s so cute! I recently found another blog that is similar to yours that I also wanted to see if you knew bc they draw rook out the same way you do! @/fadiesismin is so cool and I think you’d love their artwork!!! Also I’m very sorry for the long-winded ask, in my defense, I’m also a Sagittarius. Rook 🫶 Me, xoxoxoxoxo!!
Sagittarius Anon! I’m sorry it took this long to reply.
First of all, thank you for enjoying our stuff and for your support! I am very happy that you like the way we portray RookVil. Their relationship is very interesting and honestly quite nuanced; we don’t usually gravitate towards ships that have this strong of a “they’ve been dating for a while” vibe, but these two are just too charming. Probably because despite them deeply understanding each other and sharing a lot of values and passions, they really aren’t a perfect couple, and we get to see it in moments like the vignette you’ve mentioned, or Rook’s lab wear vignette, or on multiple other occasions. Rook isn’t the perfect boyfriend, in fact, he is quite a menace sometimes without really meaning harm (still, he technically made Vil cry at least once); but there also isn’t another person that would get Vil as deeply as Rook does and support him as well as Rook does. What they have is special, but isn’t perfect at all.
As you already know, we also love talking about characters a lot, so I even though I am late with this reply, I am happy to have an opportunity to talk about these two and Rook specifically. So thank you for sending this ask and waiting!
I’ve seen this vignette being used as an example of Rook being gaslighting/manipulative before, and to be honest, I don’t really get this argument. I understand that the reasoning is usually that Rook sounds similar to a man that lies to his girlfriend about her being fat because he wants her to be even skinnier or just to be an asshole about it, but here is the thing: this isn’t what Rook is doing though. Gaslighter always has ulterior motive behind their manipulations, even if it’s just to mess with someone else’s head for fun or to control this person. But with Rook (both in this vignette and in general), what you see is what you get: the man is brutally honest, sometimes even too honest. Vil himself is very aware of that and has mentioned it multiple times.
It’s just like you said! Vil never lets anyone forget that his looks are important to him (both because of his own standards and because he is a model), so of course Rook would comment on something that he noticed. This is the foundation of their relationship: Rook gives Vil his feedback because Rook sees things that other people don’t. Does it mean that this feedback is always 100% necessary and Vil should change things according to how Rook critiques him? Of course not. Maybe sometimes it would be better for Vil to just take it easy and relax instead of perfecting every single thing, but this isn’t what Vil wants for himself: he doesn’t want to be pampered, he wants to be appreciated for his hard work. Rook enables Vil’s perfectionism, but don’t forget that Rook is that force in Vil’s life that doesn’t let him forget what he is doing all that for (I’ve talked about Rook being protective of Vil’s “beauty” = love for art here). Vil having a toned body is something that Rook enjoys, but this is mainly something that Vil wants himself; I kind of think that as long as Vil’s passionate and unapologetic about things that he does, Rook would find beauty in him no matter how he looks. Remember him at the end of ch6 after Vil’s grandpafication? Yeah exactly.
Alright, I digress. The point I am trying to make is that Rook is very direct with Vil, sometimes even too direct, and this is the opposite of gaslighting. Even when he suggests things “lightly”, he is still upfront about them: he doesn’t try to plant any ideas in Vil’s head.
Rook sounds and acts like a jerk sometimes, but he means well, and it’s not an excuse, just a fact. In Rook’s head, Vil always takes his direct remarks and observations very well, what’s so different this time? Even if you’ve been with someone for years, fuckups are unavoidable, especially for someone who has problems with tact.
To reiterate: could this scene be triggering or upsetting? Absolutely. Are there people who comment on other’s weight to make them insecure or make them doubt themselves? Absolutely. Is this what Rook does? Absolutely not. It just isn’t true to his character: he wouldn’t gain anything if Vil started doubting himself, in fact, he would have hated it. He doesn’t want Vil to be insecure or unsure, this is literally what he confronted him about at the end of Ch5. He also doesn’t need to do anything for Vil to trust him more than others: Vil already does. When he was saying that he knew better than anyone or anything else, he stated the truth, and this is what so fucked up about Rook: he really does know better.
It’s very important to remember that these characters have their own circumstances and their own writing, and we are fucking blessed to have a cast of characters this interesting and complex.
By the way, I am saying all of this as someone who wouldn’t mind Rook being a gaslighter and could see fanon scenarios where it could work, but those need to be very well-written not to ruin his character, because honesty is an integral part of Rook Hunt. For better or worse.
Also, I know you haven’t mentioned Jade, Anon, but since this entire discussion started with comparing the two, I wanted to note that Jade’s Dorm Uniform vignette exists. Vil literally looked at him man and decided not to trust him for one moment, even scolded Rook for even humouring the idea that Jade was telling the truth. And this is just one instance; we are constantly being reminded by everyone in cast about the fact that Jade is shady and we shouldn’t take seriously the majority of things that he says (pretty much verbatim to what Floyd said about him in the Playful Land event). Jade doesn’t care about honesty, he doesn’t care about lying either: all he cares about is what to say to make the others react in the most interesting way possible. He loves messing with people, and the world is his playground….
(I am also pretty sure that he comments on Azul’s diet; this has nothing to do with gaslighting either, just thought I’d mention that since we’re talking about this)
Anyways, thank you again for your ask, Anon! I hope this wasn’t an exhausting read. I always feel like I haven’t said everything that I wanted to say, but fortunately I still have tons of replies to write, so I’ll have my chance..! Probably.
PS. @/fadiesismin’s works are very good!!

A room never changes
Character: Theo Raeken x male reader
Universe: Somewhere in Teen Wolf
Warnings: Sad, mentioned death
With a heavy breath stuck in your throat, you slowly opened your boyfriend's bedroom door. It hadn't been long since you were there last, but this time was different. His mother stood behind you, her aura heavy and her features tired. She doesn't seem to have slept in days, maybe weeks. How could you blame her? You didn't have either. The two of you had searched for your boyfriend for days without sleeping, only to find him in a way neither expected. No one else wanted to help find him because he hadn't been the nicest to many people.
His mother and you stood in the open doorway, looking into Theo's bedroom. His bed was immaculately made, just the way he liked it. His room was perfectly organized. When you first saw him in the middle school hallways, you thought he was a typical boy who was disorganized and lived in filth. But he was a neat freak, not to a problematic extent, but he did use your dirty clothes to sleep once, just to make his point clear. You wouldn't say it helped really, but even in a moment like this, it could bring a smile to your face since it was the first time you'd seen dirty clothes on his floor.
You stretched your hand out to take the clothes far into the room but found yourself unable to step inside as you realized that wholesome moments like him making such a stupid point wouldn't happen again. Not because you suddenly became a neat freak though.
To your surprise, his mother encouraged you by gently placing her hand on your shoulder. You looked at her and placed your hand on hers. You always had a silent understanding with each other. However, she was initially disappointed that her only son was more interested in boys than girls, or rather, more interested in you than girls. She changed her mind when she met you and not only saw how fantastic a fit you were for her son but also brought out the best in him.
With the woman's encouragement, you finally exhaled. You had no idea how long you had been holding your breath, but it felt like you had released a chain holding you in place. With a single step into the room, you were immediately confronted with Theo's strong scent, deep as wood and sweet as a rose. Tears formed in the corners of your eyes.
As soon as you stood in the room, you heard the door close behind you and an almost silent sob that distanced itself from it.
There were so many memories in this room, the posters on the walls, of cars, and the collage of pictures of your best moments with your boyfriend. You still fondly remember making fun of him because of it. At school he played the big bad boy, sometimes flirting with people just to piss you off, and yet in private he was a total sucker for you. Everything he did was about you. Whether it was about the songs he wrote in his little book or the pictures he took with his camera. Everything was about you as if you were the center of his universe.
You walk towards the single bed and place a hand on it. It's as soft as ever. Endless days of cuddling will never fade from your memory. The times you wordlessly placed your books on his muscular torso and lay between his legs while you worked on your homework you will always remember fondly. The first few times he was so confused about it looking at you like a beaten puppy, but you never told him why you did it. Maybe he realized that you could concentrate better when you touched him when you suddenly started becoming a perfect student, not getting a grade below an "A" since you started studying like that.
Theo was always your safe place. You knew, as long as he was close, nothing could hurt you. He had learned several martial arts since childhood but was best at boxing and kickboxing; his punches were hard enough to knock down veterans in the sport, and he was agile enough to rarely get hit.
Sitting on the bed, you let yourself get lost in the memories of his fights and how powerful he looked while fighting. His face was always contorted in concentration, while his entire body was tense. Even at a time like this, when sadness was overwhelming you, your body couldn't contain itself, remembering his wonderful body.
But the illusion of that memory shattered as the image of that day returned to your mind. All the subtle happiness disappeared. You remembered his empty hazel eyes that once could have illuminated any moment at any time of the day or night, full of life, love, and mischief.
Your body felt heavy, as did your soul. The salvation of both of them was no longer there, gone like the leaves of a tree in autumn, only he would never come back. His life was pointlessly wasted.
The tears you managed to hold back finally broke free from their bonds, followed by quiet sobs. At that moment, your eyes turned back to the clothes on the floor. He had been wearing one of these items, a black hoodie, late in the afternoon when you last saw him. When you picked it up, you thought you could still feel his lingering warmth, but you knew it was just wishful thinking. You took it in both arms and pressed it to you, Theo's intense scent wafting straight into your nose. You were astonished to find the origin of his heavy scent in such a small object. It overwhelmed you so much that you fell onto the bed, as all energy had left you.
Lying there, all you could do was cling to Theo's hoodie. Even though you tried to stay quiet as you mourned the love of your life that you lost in such a freaky accident, you couldn't. As you remember all those good times, sobs broke through your lips like water cascading down a cliff and breaking loudly on the ground. You sobbed and cried into the only part of him you had left, and when that wasn't even enough anymore, you screamed. you yelled and screamed some more. Until your voice failed and your body collapsed, right on the single bed, you and Theo had your first time on, your first kiss, and even your first fight, which was nothing more than a disagreement over whether or not Theo looked hot boxing. He was perfect for you and you for him. His loudest cheerleader and most loyal companion, while Theo was your protector, loyal lover, and idol.
You felt yourself falling asleep after exhausting yourself, only to be woken up by a rough but warm hand. The same one that had awakened you many times before. You didn't want to admit that it was probably just an illusion, but you refused to open your eyes because you didn't want it to end. But you could still hear a small, deep chuckle, the same one Theo let out every time you pretended you were still asleep even when you had already met his eyes.
The illusionary Theo didn't mention anything about it, just like the real one had. Instead, the same voice that proclaimed his undying love for you many times did it again, almost making you open your eyes. But knowing there was no way for him to be there, you held back, not wanting to wake up.
It wasn't until he mentioned loving his truck and asked what someone does when they love an object too much.
You suddenly woke up, bathed in sweat, and a shiver running down your spine. Glancing at the window, you saw that it was night and the moon was helplessly trying to shed some light in your dark thoughts, but all you could do was run your hands over your face, sighing heavily. You sat back up on his bed. As you placed your feet on the ground, you felt something strange. Looking down, you found a piece of paper you were sure wasn't there before. To your shock, it looked like a password. Your eyes subtly wandered to Theo's computer and wondered if that could be the case. You stood up and activated it. As you typed the words on the paper, the computer opened.
As the dream was fresh, you searched for anything related to his truck. You searched through all of his folders but couldn't find anything. It wasn't until you accidentally found a steamy folder of him and your activities in his truck that you saw something you'd never thought of before. Zooming in, you could read a name on the small object. When you typed it into the search machine, you realized it was a small camera, and as you investigated further, you found out it had a shared cloud. You didn't think you would get access, but you tried anyway. When it opened with the same password though, you could only roll your eyes, since Theo was always preaching cybersecurity but was doing stuff like that.
But that wasn't the point. Instead, you watched the videos. You saw him driving around with a big smile and singing along to one of your favorite songs. It was wholesome until he stopped the car at the side of the road, why you couldn't see, until he stumbled back into the car, fear and desperation in his eyes, as blood was all over him. A gasp escaped you as you watched what happened next. Thanks to your endless crying, it was too quiet for anyone else to hear.
“Those motherfuckers,” you muttered so angrily that a plan quickly molded in your head. “I will avenge you, Theo, my love. Even if it costs me my life, these bastards won't get away with it!" You swore to yourself and your love if he was there. "I will kill them all!"
You made as many copies as possible, sending some to your email address and others on USB sticks Theo had lying around that were empty or filled with useless junk. You chose not to show it to his grieving parents for now because you wanted to enact your revenge before anyone else knew about it.
They should never have fucked with you or your love. If they really thought Theo was the dangerous one, they've never known you.
A sinister grin grew on your lips. As you licked your upper teeth, you felt your mind slipping. No one but Theo knew about your dark side - he helped you calm your murderous tendencies. One day - a few weeks after you started dating him - you just snapped and killed your bully in a nearby forest. Somehow he was there. Theo, instead of snitching on you, helped you get rid of the body; no one had found it until today. A few months later, you found out why, as he showed you his dark side. It was true; he tried to kill Scott through Liam and even instigated Stiles to kill someone even if it was in self-defense, but in your opinion, that didn't give them the right to take your love away, especially since there was no evidence that Theo tried or helped with any of this. He was too clever for this.
But you will ensure that they regret it, including their families. They will all see!

I just think it’s silly that so many people complain about Villain Amaya as “wasted potential” and that “we were robbed” like-
My pals, post canon fan fiction is right there. The desire to free her husband is right there. Either by touching an evil book while being too eager to remember the obsidian oil, or being possessed by contact (ie what she believes is true loves kiss) when trying to reason with him in the dungeon.
We don’t need a rewrite, we can have a continuation. Both can be true. Amaya is a complex character, she can handle it.

I’m a sucker for musical parallels and referencing an old song in a new song but I feel like this TTPD lead up is not just a “this is how I used to feel and now I’m using those themes to show how I feel now” and more of a “those feelings were never real and actually those love songs that were so beautiful before are actually about a bad relationship and full of red flags” cuz it’s honestly ruining my feelings on those old songs. Like Taylor’s whole thing is letting us interrupt the songs and apply them to our own lives and now it’s like even she is encouraging us to only see them through the lens of her most recent breakup and it really sucks tbh

“IT IS SHE WHO DECIDES WHO STEADILY SLEEPS IN DEATH AND WHO RISES TO WALK THE EARTH AGAIN.”
Perfect day to reveal this character I made for Bliss a while back considering it’s literally the autumnal equinox! A very important figure in the world’s lore, The Equinox is the “Mother Cryptid”, basically what God (or what’s called “Numen” in this universe) is to humans/angels. Humans usually worship both deities— Numen for prosperity in life and Equinox for peace in death.
The Equinox is also the cause of one other thing: equinoxal cryptids. These are the cryptids that are born after death. When a living thing on the Overworld, like a human or animal, meets an untimely demise (which basically just means their time was cut short abruptly, one example being murder) their soul remains dormant for a little while and is placed into a “ballot-type system” in the Equinox’s care. Usually most souls will eventually pass this system and move on into proper afterlife. But sometimes these souls get pulled from said ballot system and are chosen to be reincarnated as a cryptid. Usually these equinoxal cryptids are one of a kind— they don’t follow any already existing species. They’re just them— no other cryptid quite like they are. These forms are often drawn to resemble something in their past life, which can be as mundane or representative as Equinox chooses. Their memories are also usually clouded after the process. Little details can often be recalled, but some are shrouded away. Some remember their deaths, others do not, or at the very least remember basic details of it. But some are left with vivid memories of it. There’s not really much telling why she does this— it’s a mystery left unknown. Perhaps it’s like doll making… crafting something you can love and tend to and hopefully pass on to the next person who will take care of it.
Equinox doesn’t really look too much into the lives of who she reanimates— not that she really can at all. It’s pretty much at random chance whatever soul she pulls out to recreate, regardless of what kind of person they were. Does she sometimes do this to the wrong people? Well… It’s not like it would be her fault if it ever came to that.
During the first day of Autumn, it is considered a celebratory holiday for Cryptids, but not a lot of actual celebrating gets to happen this day. It’s said that The Equinox’s connection with cryptickind is closer and stronger than ever as she roams around the overworld to spread autumnal joy, but this actually causes the Cryptids to become “overwhelmed” with the sensation and become very sluggish/sleepy/sickly. Despite that, it is still a happy holiday for them, equinoxal or not.

i thought too hard about insect motifs got a little silly and made... a lot lmao
these versions of the characters are from @sm-baby's amazing digital carnival au!!
full images and rambling about insect choices are gonna get stuck under the cut... it'll be a bit long and i will be putting photos of real bugs down there so be mindful
pomni: "butterfly"
inspirational species are black swallowtails mostly for the shape, and malay red harlequins mostly for the pattern
carnival pomni's actually the one that kickstarted this whole set... i drew her hat in a way that reminded me of butterflies, went "wait...", then i fully leaned into it :)
jax: "centipede"
there was no specific species for jax. without being able to use color, they were too similar to pick any out... i have included a giant centipede just for reference though since it was mainly larger centipedes i used for inspiration
anddd there's a little bonus sketch for how pre-sentience jax might've looked with a centipede outfit... he gets a bug scarf and some goggles!
ragatha: "ladybug"
inspirational species was the twice-stabbed ladybug chosen because the inverted color scheme looked the best out of all the ones i tried, and also because it's a metal name and we know ragatha's good with a knife... stabby stab... i did add more than two spots to the dress though, it just looks cooler lol
gangle: "spider"
inspiration was the spinybacked orb weaver which i was absolutely ecstatic to find because come on that is the perfect spider for gangle like look at it!! it looks like her mask, it's got red, it's got gold on the limbs, literally twinning
zooble: "mantis"
inspiration was the spiny flower mantis which, like with gangle, i feel is pretty much perfect for zooble... they come in many colors (including pink), have abstract patterns, and it gave me the excuse to cover zooble in spikes :D fun
and no kaufmo because i'm lazy and he's dead (sorry kaufmo fans but am i wrong), and the rest don't have bug names that i know of?
i still want to draw the carnival characters in their regular looks sometime, i just got really really inspired by the idea of secret skins and bug-themed outfits and went a liiittle haywire :P
anyways if you read all that you're a real one and you've got too much time on your hands... if you didn't, i understand, i get wordy, sorry :'D okay i think that's all byeee

Here's the thing. I'm a girl, and as a girl, I really like it when girls are portrayed in fiction. Especially fantasy.
But so much fiction/fantasy mixes up 'girls' with 'unstoppable forces of female badass' and there's not necessarily anything wrong with having a character who is an 'unstoppable forces of female badass'. But it gets old real quick. And it is not the same as portraying normal girls, or having good female characters.
And that's one of the many reasons I love Avatar the Last Airbender.
Because all the girl characters have flaws and weaknesses and sometimes act like idiots or jerks. They get emotional and make mistakes. They lose fights or arguments or are just wrong sometimes. Some of them are amazing warriors, and some aren't. Some are powerful or special and some are normal, with nothing special about them.
And I Love that.
I was around the same age as Katara when I first watched Atla. And I instantly connected with her as a character. I loved her optimistic attitude and her fighting spirit. And I could relate with her anger, and with her maternal instinct. I admired her fighting skills of course, but I loved how the show portrayed her compassion and kindness, the way she could both beat up a bunch of bullies AND enjoy a relaxing day at the spa. She was a baddass warrior that should never be crossed. But she was also a normal teenage girl who had a lot of the same internal struggles and problems that I did.
(I never connected to Toph on the same level, but I did relate to her on a few things. She's an adorable trash gremlin who would commit any crime for fun and I love that. But she struggles with being both independent and letting people help her, and I still struggle with that sometimes. I've learned that sometimes, you can help others by letting them help you.)
Yue is, in my opinion, a perfect example of a type of hero that seems to be disappearing. She is not a warrior. She is not a fighter. She's not even a bender.
Yue is a perfect princess, a perfect daughter. She is extremely feminine in a rather older sense.
And she was the only one who could save the world. She gave up everything for her people. She saved everything, everyone, the entire world. Without ever becoming a fighter.
Yue is a perfect example of a girl who was never more than a girl, and how that's okay. Not every girl has to be rough and tumble and fight for her rights in order to change everything. Sometimes it's okay to just be a quiet obedient girly girl. Sometimes that's all it takes to be a hero.
And I love that. Yue is strong in her own way. She is unique and interesting. She appears in only a few episodes and yet manages to be one of my favorite characters.
Song is another great example of this. Song is a healer in a small town. We don't see much of her but we see her compassion and empathy. She is gentle and generous. A healer not a fighter.
She watches Zuko steal her ostrich horse and does nothing.
Is that because she's kind and generous and knows he needs it more? Or is it because she's a healer girl who knows she can't actually stop those two from taking the horse? Maybe neither, maybe both. I have always thought that the scene where Zuko steals the horse and only the audience knows she saw it is one of the most thought-provoking in the series.
Suki is a badass warrior woman who is an awesome fighter and good leader. She is one of the best non bender fighter we see in the entire show. She was one of the smartest, most efficient, and powerful characters we ever saw.
She kissed a boy she had just met because she thought he was cute.
Now don't get me wrong I love SokkaxSuki. Its one of the best couples in the show.
But Suki totally did the old 'love at first sight' thing. And that is awesome. Because when she kisses him she delivers one of the best lines, not only from her, but, I think, in the entire show.
"I AM a warrior, but I'm a girl too."
Being a warrior doesn't mean that she isn't also a teenage girl. She might be a fighter, but she still gets crushes and likes to flirt with cute boys. And hey, she picked a good one. Not every boy is going to come break you out of prison.
Anyways, let's have more realistic girls in fiction. And please enjoy the next 24 hours.
