Chapter index
Summary : you've come to visit Japan to meet these two boys you met online. Though Satoru can't speak English and you can't speak Japanese, the two of you still fall in love. Very cute. Very cheesy. Oh no... wait is there a tension between you and his best friend, too? Oh boy...
Warnings : romantic tension with Suguru / potential love triangle, cat scratch
Note : i think of this fic a lot and i found the continuation hiding out in my drafts sooo here 👍
🍒 More from Jay : Gojo works / Gojo fave works / JJK works
Satoru blinks awake to see your face. His heart beats harder.
Yesterday was not a dream after all?
He's not an early bird at all, but from the first day of your visit he magically woke up early as if his soul was too excited to sleep when it knew you were right there, in the flesh. No screen. Just you.
When the first day starts, it feels like you've always been together. Was there ever a screen separating the two of you? And were you really going to disappear behind one again in just a month?
For now, she feels like she's here to stay. I think I'm going to cry like a baby at the airport when she leaves after her visit.
Morning routines are carried out. The sky is cloudy at first, threatening rain, and by the time you three cluster into the kitchen to make breakfast together, it starts raining.
You and Satoru banter like two cats. Suguru's morning rasp is very strong.
"Satoru... uh... sugar?" you ask, preparing to make yourself a second one and automatically making Satoru another one, since he looks still very bleary-eyed even after spending an hour freshening up in the bathroom.
"...? Yes?" he tilts his head, then you raise the sugar cube jar. "Yes. Uh... four. Thank you."
Suguru's blushing because of the cute tension between you and his best friend. It fills the whole kitchen, which already felt full with their two bodies and a third one now. Everyone keeps bumping elbows and yet not complaining about it, in fact it's enjoyable to be squished together. Maybe because you three waited so long to be together in person, you don't mind it. There's a silent, ever-present comedy in the air about the tight proximity.
You hum happily, tossing in one, two, three... four? That's a lot of sugar. "Suguru, tell Satoru he mustn't have so much sugar all the time. It's not good for his health."
Suguru laughs. "I try to tell him that every day. But his sweet tooth is incurable."
"His dentist must hate him." you smirk at Satoru, who's been looking at you blushingly after hearing his name mentioned.
I think her voice is my favorite sound now.
Please say my name again.
"Satoru? Coffee?" you interrupt his lovey-dovey thoughts and he suddenly reanimates himself, because for a moment there he zoned out and just stared at you with those pretty eyes.
"Mmm... thanks." he takes the coffee from you with a noticeable timidness that you can't quite explain. There's a lot about him that's indescribable, you're having a small internal crisis; aren't you supposed to be fluent in English? And yet you can't even begin to describe just how sweet and gentle Satoru behaves. The most you can do is use metaphors that barely justify him.
"Suguru, tell her... her voice is nice, and also sorry for cuddling you in my sleep (and that she can definitely kick me away at night if it bothers her.) Also!" (the three of you head into the living room, and Suguru habitually trips over the cat who stalks under his feet too quietly to notice) "Also tell her... if it rains today, does she still want to go out? Because if we go out in the rain, she might get sick. And I don't want her to get sick on her trip. Not that I'd mind taking care of you, Y/n, of course."
Suguru lets out a long sigh and pulls a funny face. You smile amusedly.
"...It's too early to be a translator..." he grumbles in English after Satoru overloads him.
"What? C'mon tell her everything I said!"
"Let me have my coffee first. How about the two of you write to each other?" he suggests, putting the rim of the cup to his lips and sipping languidly.
"Eh, fine." Satoru pouts, and stalks off into his bedroom to get his phone.
Then, when he's in his bedroom, his chest flutters for some reason when he sees your suitcase standing there opened and emptied into the free cupboard space. He takes his phone, smiles at the homely feeling of seeing your belongings in his room, and leaves.
"Oh..." he has a sudden idea, and remembers the magnetic drawing board that's hanging in the kitchen. He and Suguru usually use it for writing reminders to each other, like get milk or you're an idiot or sometimes it has doodles of Mint the cat with sunglasses on.
So he returns to you with this magnetic drawing board, and points at it meaningfully, then holds one finger up and bows his head as he begins writing very slowly.
Suguru's checking the weather forecast and muttering sour complaints under his breath to you. "Of course it would rain for three days just when you arrive... at least by the weekend it will be clear and sunny..."
"Mmm... it's alright. A little rain never hurt nobody." you respond.
"I like your optimism." Suguru compliments flippantly at first, but then continues; "It's really uplifting. I think Satoru said something about you being a joy once, he said it really poetically but I can't recall it now."
"Aw..." you dip your head beneath your coffee cup, hiding the bashful expression on your face, which Suguru chuckles at.
And then, for a long moment, you just stare and watch Satoru writing on the board. You're completely captured in this moment, completely captivated in his enveloping presence as he sits next to you. He has slow, meticulous wrist movements. His knees press together, like he's worried that he'll invade your personal space if he sits too comfortably close to you. Funny, considering he cuddled you all night and you had no complaints about it.
He's writing very simply and neatly, just like how he texts you. You're a bit baffled by the characters he's using, though he's trying his best to avoid using any kanji knowing that you don't know a lot of it. He's sure you can figure things out by slowly pronouncing each hiragana character, or at least he hopes.
"Here." he hands you the magnetic drawing board, and then raises from the couch to go feed the cat.
"Minto-Minto... " he calls after the cat and makes a small cute sound to lure her out.
You're trying to read each hiragana character, eyes squinting a bit.
Suguru leans in close to you. He just takes a look, but the proximity for some reason gives both of you butterflies.
"Ooh... that's cute." Suguru comments after reading what Satoru wrote. His voice reaches deep in your tummy.
"Hm... I'll spell it out and... figure it out... anyways, why did you name your cat Mint?"
"Oh... well. There's two reasons. So the first..." he sets down his coffee, like he's about to tell you a great story, "Is because Satoru watched this show called Tokyo Mew Mew growing up, and he liked the character Minto. So he calls her Minto. And then I agreed on calling her that, but I call her Mint, because I hate mint the herb."
"You — haha, wait what? You call her Mint because you hate mint?"
"Yes. I hate mint, both the herb and the cat. She hates me too, clearly." Suguru raises his hand to remind you of how the cat scratched him the night before.
"Such a cute Hello Kitty sticker..." you tease.
"Thank you. Only the manliest men wear Hello Kitty Bandaids."
"How did she scratch you anyways...?"
"Oh, she likes to hang out in the washing machine if Satoru accidentally leaves it open. And when I try take her out of her comfy spot, she scratches me."
You sympathize, "Poor thing."
"What, the cat or me?" Suguru laughs.
"The cat." you lie teasingly.
"Wow! And here I thought you were being sympathetic!" he raises his brows.
You giggle and look at him, eyes finally making contact — ooh no that's bad bad bad, better break it immediately. So the two of you look away like you've both just indulged in a taboo intimacy. His stomach flips.
"Minto has been fed. She gave me cuddles." Satoru comes back into the room, and you admire the feeling he brings with him.
"No scratches?" Suguru asks.
"No, obviously, she loves me more than you." Satoru cheeks.
"Fuck you, haha."
Satoru makes his voice lower and leans to Suguru, "(Did she figure out what I wrote yet?)"
"Y/n did you figure out what he wrote?" Suguru asks.
"I'm trying so hard. What does this part mean...?"
Suguru shakes his head and puts his hands up. "Like I said, I'm not Mr Translator in the mornings."
"But you've had your coffee! Please, just this part..." you beg, and he can't deny that sweet begging. He easily folds for it, just like when Satoru begs for anything.
"Okay, where — this? Uh... Satoru your handwriting isn't usually this neat, is it...? That part means... 'voice'."
"Oh... ohhh!" you suddenly realize, and then the boys swoon over you when you pronounce the characters out loud to yourself.
"Uh... I think I know what it means..." you feel your cheeks warm up from the crown to your jawline.
a-na-ta-no-ko-e-ga-su-ki.
"I like your voice, too." you respond to Satoru, and he half-gets it and gives you a thumbs up.
"Thanks."
You look at each other and then promptly look away with shy smiles.
"You two are cute." Suguru comments.
"Ahah... ahah shut up... hey, the sky has cleared up." you point out.
"Ooh... it cleared up 'cuz Satoru walked back into the room."
You awe at what he said.
"?"
"Nothing."
"Hey, Translator — (stop talking about me behind my back!)"
Suguru chuckles, "I wasn't! I was just — never mind. Let's get ready to head out."
And so you head into Satoru's bedroom to get ready, and Suguru heads into his bedroom, and Satoru himself goes into the cramped bathroom. Poor boy. He's really too tall for that archway, he bumped his head again.
Should I buy her flowers? Or is it a bit too much?
(Oh my god), why does this shirt have holes?
The door slides open, he steps out of the bathroom half-dressed, and intends to quickly slip into Suguru's bedroom to borrow a shirt instead of awkwardly knocking on his bedroom door and disturbing you.
But oh, you know what? The cheesiest possible thing happens instead. The universe likes making Satoru's life a little more fun in odd times. So the two of you encounter each other in the hallway; you're fully clothed and he's got just pants and socks on.
He stutters once, swallows awkwardly, and even more awkwardly places his hand on your head as if to say sorry for this inconvenience.
But you laugh in response to the funny situation.
Ah, that beautiful laugh again.
"Sorry." he mutters, and disappears to go get a shirt from Suguru.
"It's okay." you reply.
The image of your pretty smile is burned in his head.
You can hear him telling Suguru something in the other room, and then you hear Suguru's muffled laugh as a response.
"(Don't laugh! I'm embarrassed! She's seen me shirtless now! No one's seen me shirtless except you!)"
"(You're such a virgin.)"
"(Say that again, I dare you.)"
"(Sorry, I don't understand you. I don't speak virgin, only English and Japanese.)"
You're wondering why Satoru sounds so embarrassed and annoyed, and then he groans down the hallway. It feels like you're their roommate, it's funny.
"Hi."
"Hi."
The two of you encounter each other in the hall again. This time he has a shirt, yes. And this time Suguru is there, too, and he's holding back an amused smile. He fluffs Satoru's hair as a way of embarrassing him more.
So Satoru leaves, and he leaves in such a way that it's super comedic, making you and Suguru laugh. Ooh, what a laugh that boy has; his Addam's apple shifts up and down deliciously.
"Ah... Suguru? I need help with the washing machine..."
"Yes...?"
"...this kid on the plane who sat next to me, he spilled strawberry juice all over my shirt and now it's sticky."
"But at least it smells like strawberries, right?" he jokes. "You can put it in the washing machine, I'll be doing the laundry in a second anyways..." there is a small moment of eye contact shared, then Suguru looks down, and frowns at something he sees, "(SATORU YOU LEFT YOUR SOCK ON THE FLOOR AGAIN!)"
"(Haha, sorry.)" you hear Satoru half-heartedly apologize from the other room.
So Suguru picks up the sock like an annoyed mother and goes to lecture Satoru.
"(You're embarrassing me in front of our guest. For the love of god, don't leave your goofy ass socks on the floor. What if she slips on them?)"
"(You're such a mother, Suguru.)"
You're calmly and casually going to put your juice-stained shirt in the washing machine like Suguru said, but then...
(the boys are talking and there's just this hilariously dramatic scream from the laundry room)
"DID THE CAT SCRATCH YOU?"
"(Did the cat scratch her?)"
"Ow, y-yeah!" you whine.
Suguru's the first one at the crime scene, and he picks up the cat and proceeds to lecture the cat as if it understands Japanese. It licks its lips and nubby nose and has an evil stare. You giggle.
"I'm so sorry... come, uh — (Suguru, we still have Hello Kitty adhesives somewhere, right?)" Satoru instinctually holds your hand that got scratched.
And he holds it so tenderly and caringly that it makes your whole chest quake for him.
Although the wound on her hand was very small, I still felt my heart tingle.
He leads you to his bedroom, picking up some adhesives and antiseptic on the way, and sits with you on the unmade beds. You watch his fingers nimbly peeling the plastic off the adhesive, admiring how swiftly and perfectly he does even the littlest things. He has such a great attention to detail, it makes you self-conscious; is he thinking of you with the same attention to detail as everything else? Yes... he is.
He dabs some antiseptic on your small scratch, and then gently wraps and pats the Hello Kitty adhesive around it. You're pretty sure he's the one who bought them. Oh, if only you could ask him, but where even is your phone? Lost in a void somewhere, probably.
"Thank you, Satoru."
His eyes light up. His heart thumps. Why did those small, simple words have such a great effect on him?
"Mhm." he hums in acknowledgement. "You're welcome."
I want to kiss your wounds to make them better.
A second after thinking this and looking at your hand, he brings it to his lips and presses a very delicate kiss to the edge of your wrist, where the small cut spanned up to the base of your palm. Can you even call it a kiss? It's more like his lips graze your skin, hovering timidly.
And for some reason... the atmosphere becomes very intimate. Is it because of the place where he kissed you? The inner wrist has never occurred to you to be an intimate spot, and yet you're feeling as if he just kissed you on the lips.
You hear him audibly swallow, like he's conscious of this, too. The both of you become very aware of the tension in the atmosphere.
And then he looks apologetic, as if he overstepped a boundary. So you mutter a small, whispery "thanks..." which lifts his heart up into his throat and reassures him that you don't mind the intimacy.
"Mmm..." he blinks at you, pursing his lips.
His eyes linger on your lips for a moment, and it feels like he's about to... well you know his body just wants to... he sort of...
"Hey, how's the wounded patient?" Suguru interrupts, and you and Satoru spring apart like you're elastic bands that just got released after being stretched.
"Ahah, I'm okay. It's not a bad scratch." you lift your hand, "I'll cherish this Hello Kitty Bandaid forever, thank you."
"Yeah, Satoru bought 'em so you can thank him."
"I knewww he bought them, haha! So expected... cutiepie." you admire Satoru, and he's pretty sure that the last thing you said is some cute nickname, so he smirks.
"Okay, well... anyways, let's head out before the sun rises too high and it gets too hot to walk."

Y: To be honest, I was scared.
Because whenever he came close to me, my heart leapt and skipped a beat.
I wished that, if possible, he wouldn't come near me
because we lived in different worlds.
'I want him to like me' - I never had a thought like that.
It was just...
If he ended up hating me then I felt like I might die.
Just thinking about it made my stomach turn.
We've seen for awhile that Yoh's fear that Segasaki will one day come to disdain him is what keeps him from voicing his thoughts out loud - but it is in Ep 6 that we truly learn the intensity with which Yoh feels, and come to understand why that fear overwhelms him to the point that he is incapable of hearing Segasaki's love for him.
Or, Yoh sees Segasaki for the first time and literally starts spouting poetry in the way only a visual artist can. Get ready for a lot of interaction breakdowns - this episode tells us quite a lot about these two! Same translation disclaimer applies, Ep 6, let's go!
S: As usual, he walks so slowly
Y: You know... actually
Y: When I was leaving we got into an argument
M: Huh? What happened?
Y: I was told "I don't care at all about something like your work"
M: By Segasaki-san? He said something like that?
Y: "I don't care at all"... what's with that!
Y: To say that about something that someone is giving their all for...*
Y: He's the worst, that guy**
**Yoh uses あいつ (aitsu) to refer to Segasaki as "that guy". This is again considered rude, though is often used amongst male friends as well (like calling someone an asshole/bastard). He tends to use this word to refer to Segasaki in his head, especially when he's annoyed with him.
*Just like at the end of Ep 5, where Yoh emphasizes that he will become someone who can earn more as opposed to just earning more, here Yoh specifies that he is upset with Segasaki's response to his work, rather than being upset with the response being directed at himself, as the original subs imply. It's a small difference but I think it's important because it fits with his entire character. He has consistently only been triggered by comments about his work, not about him as a person. Yoh is self-conscious and sensitive about his work, because he sees competence as a measure of worth. It's precisely because he ties his self-worth to his work that he falls into such a deep depression in Ep 5, and it is the same reason why Yoh does not understand what good Segasaki could possibly see in him - after all, there is no merit in just being who he is, only in the work that he can do.
Atsuya:
Y: No, that's just over-interpreting it in my favor
Atsuya (Man-san's husband): Dayo-kun, they say that about 90% of the meaning words convey comes down to the way we interpret them, so
A: Depending on the way we feel, or our condition in that moment, that meaning can end up distorted and warped, even if the same words are used, you know?
A: If Dayo-kun you, had been in a happier mood, might it not have sounded a lot sweeter to you?
Y: Mm... No, it's not like that
Y: That person and I, well... that's not what it's like (between us), you see
Y: When I first saw that person
I thought that he might not be a living thing from this planet
At the very least, out of all the forms that I had ever seen on this Earth
I thought he had the most beautiful one.
The shape of his ears, the ridge of his nose,
The line of the angle of his jaw, the full contour of his lips
Even the structure of what could not be seen - the globe of his eyes -
I thought for sure that too must be beautiful.
Y: I had drawn manga as a hobby but
It was my first time drawing a real live person.
And,
It was also the first time that I thought "I want to draw a man"
In that moment, driven by impulse, I wanted to burn his image into my eyes, to capture his likeness down on paper.
Probably, it was because I was in the same space as that beauty.
It was because of that, that I began to go crazy.
At 06:44, when Segasaki's green shirt classmate comes in calling his name, you can see that Yoh mouth’s "Mizuki" after he hears it.
(Btw Green Shirt later wears a Red Jacket, and is played by Nishimoto Maiki, the leader of the group Acchan is in - GENIC. Cute shot of the 3 of them here)
S: Well it's not like he's doing anything to us directly... I think it's fine actually
Y: If it was a girl
Then maybe I would have clearly understood that this was love at first sight
But it was just very simply, a beautiful man so
My brain couldn't handle processing more than that
Most of this is not subtitled, and it’s a little muffled, but as the group walks over you can hear that Segasaki is the center of their conversation here, though he's not actually participating in it much. It speaks to the group dynamics, so I'm including it here (Segasaki is bolded):
Girl:
Red Jacket:
Girl
Red:
Girl:
Red:
Girl:
Red:
Boy:
Girl:
Girl: Whaat?
S: It wasn't
Red Jacket: It was (said to) Mizuki wasn't it, right? Just now?
Girl: I mean you're popular anyway!
S: No, I'm not
Red: Mizuki's popular
Girl: Whatever it is, that was a confession (you received)
Red: It was, it was
Girl: Oh hey! Why, isn't it Little Loner*?
Red: Oh snap, you're right! It is Little Loner!
Boy: The one who always sneaks looks at us
Girl: Come here a bit, we'll talk to you, ok?**
(Bocchi-kun) - Bocchi is slang for loner, and by adding the suffix "-kun" to it, they've turned this into a diminutive, like a nickname. It sounds cute and friendly, but is clearly meant as a casual sort of insult, so I've translated it as "Little" here.
**This is an interesting line to discuss. She tells Yoh to come over, using the phrase 来なよ (kina yo) - this is the same "na" that Segasaki uses in Ep 4 actually, when he tells a drunk Yoh to go sleep in the room. It's the exact same word form, but where it was tender when Segasaki said it, it's highly insulting here - and the reason is because of the context and their (non-existant) relationship. She may be Yoh's senior, but this is the first time they're meeting, and they are nowhere near close enough that this phrasing would ever be seen as appropriate. She then tells him "we'll talk to you", using the colloquial form of "~したあげる (shita ageru)" aka "to do for you" - in other words, she's framing the action of them talking to him as if it were a gift from them to him (this word form also implies they are above him in the hierarchy). She also adds the polite prefix "O" to the word for "talk", which in this context is meant to make her appear sweet and ladylike.
In other words, with just one line, she has insulted Yoh not only by talking down to him as if he were a small child or a pet, but also by insinuating that she's a sweet, lovely person who has been so kind as to deign to speak to him.
Y: あの。。。
Y: Um... I*... will go and buy it.
Y: That's definitely 100 million times better than getting harassed by them
*Yoh still uses the masculine pronoun 俺 (ore) for "I" here (the same one he's used in every episode) which is remarkable for the fact that he doesn't switch to the more polite form 僕 (boku). Nowadays, it isn't really expected per se that a junior make this switch - especially since "ore" is usually the go-to pronoun for most male university students - but the switch wouldn't be surprising either, given that they are his seniors. Yoh does acknowledge their seniority when he uses the formal -masu form of the word "to buy" - but in the context of them bullying him, the choice to stick with the more masculine pronoun "ore" suggests that he isn't intimidated by them.
Red:
Girl:
Red: He automatically offered to be an errand boy! Isn’t that crazy?
Girl: It’s nuts!
パシリ(pashiri) - to be made to run errands - is slang, and it is used specifically to refer to cases where someone with more social power orders another around. It’s almost always linked to bullying or misuse of social power – so by using this word, these guys - they know exactly what they are doing.
Y: Those bastards*… they’re trash
*Yoh uses the same word あいつ (aitsu) to refer to the gang that he did at the beginning of this episode to refer to Segasaki - once again it is the context that changes the meaning of this word. With Segasaki, it is proof that they share a close relationship. With these upper classmen that he's just met - it's definitely rude.
This is a very common form of bullying in school, and evidently, Yoh recognizes it immediately. The fact that he jumps so quickly to cooperating with it tells us sadly that this is something he's familiar with - he's likely been bullied before. This is unfortunately, unsurprising, because Yoh doesn't adhere to social norms very much. He eats alone, he stares at people, he doesn't greet his seniors properly (that slight bow is not enough, there should at least be a verbal greeting of some sort).
In my post on amae, I talked about how the interdependent self-construal means that one's ability to assimilate is seen as a value. In the same vein, people who do not fit in with the group, or who do not conform, are not looked upon favorably in Japan, because it is often assumed that they simply do not want to. It is not that they are unable to assimilate, it is that they are refusing to make an effort to be part of the group, and thus the fault and blame lies with them. Ostracization of those different therefore, is the expected consequence and punishment that the group metes out. All of us have to do our part to adhere to the rules of the group - what makes you so special that you can do your own thing? If you just did your job of fitting in like the rest of us have, well, then you wouldn't be in this position in the first place, now would you? - This sort of justification is the reason why bullying in Japan can become very, very extreme, and why despite efforts, has been so difficult to eradicate.
S: I thought all of that was probably going to be too much for one person to carry
S: Pass it over
Y: Thank you very much*
S: Let's go
*Yoh uses the full, polite version of "thank you" here, and he will, for the most part, continue to use desu/masu forms with Segasaki, and answer him politely, in recognition of their senior/junior relationship. Similarly, Segasaki uses informal forms with Yoh, though he maintains a friendly demeanor and does not drop to rude forms at all, because they aren't that close yet. Note how he says 行こう (ikou) for "let's go" here - different from his present day "we're going", which leaves no room for argument.
(Also, he took the heavier bag of drinks (´ ▽`).。o♡)
Let's break this down to look at some social cues and nuances:
S: You walk quite leisurely, don't you?
Y: I've... been told that a lot
This is more than just a callback to the beginning of the episode (or a chance to contrast how much more polite and sweet Segasaki sounds here 😂) - This is another way in which we see Yoh does not fit in. Segasaki is his senior, who has gone out of his way to come help him (never mind that Yoh's being bullied), and he should at the very least, be trying to match Segasaki's pace, not making him wait like Yoh does here. Segasaki's comment should be taken as much as an expression of surprise, as it should a cue to catch up - Yoh glances briefly at Segasaki after this line (which seems to amuse the latter) but he doesn't actually apologize outright or walk any faster. He does admit that he's been told this often - which sometimes can work as a concession, because you sort of validate what the other person is saying, but at the same time you aren't quite agreeing either. That said, it can backfire, because it means you've been made aware of your habit and yet have done nothing to change it. Segasaki doesn't seem to mind though, and actually matches Yoh's pace here.
Speaking of "pace" - "マイペース" or "my pace" is a loan word from English, and is a term used to describe someone who tends to do things, well, at their own pace, or in their own way, and who isn't bother by the people or goings-on around them. Usually meant as a benign, sometimes affectionate comment on someone's personality, it often brings to mind the image of someone who appears to drift during conversations, who might be a little "slow" in social interactions, or who physically lags behind the group. It can have negative connotations, because it means the group needs to make concessions for this person (like looking for them when they've wondered off). Yoh is the epitome of someone who is "my pace", and I'm very sure that the emphasis on his slow walking is not just a peculiar quirk of his character, it's an intentional part of the character design to show how Yoh is different.
S: *You... what's your name?
Y: Ah, I'm called Yoh. Um... written with the character for "leaf"
S: Hmm~ Yoh-kun huh..
Y: Yes
*Segasaki uses the polite pronoun 君 (kimi) to refer to Yoh here, as opposed to the rougher お前 (omae) that he now uses in the present day.
That little action Yoh does whilst saying "leaf" is him drawing out the kanji character for his name. It's quite common to tell someone which character is used to write your name, because the characters usually mean something, and it helps others to remember. Strictly speaking, Yoh really should be introducing his full name here, but judging by how he's been fiddling with the plastic bag, he's probably just too nervous to realize.
S: I'm
Y: Mizuki...san
S: Why do you know that?
Y: Ah... that's what.. you were called (by them) so...
S: You listen closely don't you
Y: Ahh.. yea...
Nice save 😂First of all, it's extremely unusual to jump straight to using someone's first name instead of their family name (unless you're still a kid), let alone doing it to an upper classman, though Yoh does manage to tack on the polite suffix "-san" at the back. It's the verbal equivalent of stepping right into someone's personal space and touching their bag or something and then being all "er there was something there...". It's just weird and borderline inappropriate 😂 The fact that Segasaki doesn't scold him for taking such a liberty, or show any sign that he appears weirded out by it (in fact, he actually goes along with it!) tells us that Segasaki is a very kind (yasashii would be the right term here, the same term that appears at the end of this episode) or at least a very tolerant individual though I'd also like to think he just finds Yoh's strange ways a little cute too.
Segasaki's tone changes here to a more serious one - all he does is stress the final syllables of the word "fun" to indicate he's asking a question, instead of adding any end particles that might give more context, or that might soften the tone. The topic switch is a little sudden, which is why Yoh seems a bit confused. It doesn't help that the words are a little ambiguous - it literally translates to "now, fun?" - except the Japanese word for "now" is often used to mean "just now" as well, because the Japanese concept of time is not quite as linear as it is in West. "Now" doesn't just refer to "this current exact second we are in", it extends from whenever the "current activity" began right up to "this current exact second" - the key is figuring out what the current activity is 😅. Because Segasaki jumps into this topic so suddenly, and without much contextual cues, Yoh can't quite tell whether he means now, as in them walking together, or now, as in, the whole being sent on an errand thing, which is why Segasaki clarifies in the next sentence:
S: Being hassled, and sent on errands?
Y: Oh...
S: So?
Y: No, it... isn't fun.
Segasaki watches Yoh closely whilst he waits for the answer to his question. This is Segasaki checking that Yoh knows he's being bullied, and it's also permission to talk about the topic. Once he confirms that Yoh does know what's happening, he looks away again.
The exchange tells us a lot about Segasaki's character, because often, the reason why bullying goes on for so long is that no one is willing to talk about it. Everyone knows what's going on, but no one acknowledges it. The fact that Segasaki jumps straight into it hints to Yoh that he doesn't agree with what his "friends" are doing (whether Yoh catches that hint or not is a different story). It also tells us, the audience, that he isn't afraid to speak up about things he disagrees with (similar to how he spoke up for Yoh when Yoh was sketching in the cafeteria) - but not to the extent that he'll do something which threatens the harmony of the group outright. This is tatemae/honne, which I talked about briefly in the amae post as well, and linked to this street interview video for real life examples. In short, tatemae is your ability to avoid conflict and smooth over group interactions, and is seen as an essential and positive trait. Segasaki is very good at this, even at this stage in his life, which is part of why he is so well-liked.
Y: What about Mizuki-san?
S: Me?
Y: Yes
S: I'm not having fun at all
S: It's a secret, yea?
Y: Yes
This is cute, and tells us about Yoh's character too. Firstly, he's still persisting in his use of "Mizuki-san", though he's being really tentative about it, like he's testing whether or not it's okay. Secondly, he's actually asking Segasaki directly to confirm his stand on what his "friends" are doing. Is this Yoh being daring, or just his slightly awkward, somewhat tactless self? I couldn't tell you 🤣 It's likely a bit of both.
In response, you can hear the surprise in Segasaki's voice, but he doesn't hesitate to detach himself from the actions of the group. The way he invites Yoh into his group here, by acting as if he's let Yoh in on a secret, is very charming obviously, and reminds me somewhat of how in Ep 4, he suddenly drops to "Kanami-san" when talking to Man-san too. This again fits with how his "public mode" has been consistently portrayed thus far - nice, charming, polite, good-looking, and obviously popular (Ep 3, the girls in the cafe at the back, Ep 4, the way he talks to Man-san, this Ep, where he's even been proposed to).
Guy:
Red:
Guy:
Girl:
Red:
Girl:
Guy: Is my water coming?
Red: Will that guy remember?
Guy: Good point, he's really made us wait
S: Sorry! Yoh says he's got a stomachache, so I'm gonna take him home. Here!
Girl: Huh? But it's not like Mizuki you have to go too right?
S: Leaving him all by himself right when he's having a hard time - wouldn't you feel bad for him?*
S: So, see you guys later, 'kay! Bye!
S: Let's go
Red: Mizuki's really kind** isn't he?
Girl: But, he's leaving you know!
*Segasaki does a very small switch up to the polite form here, as he takes the moral high ground by reminding the girl that as Yoh's senior, they have an obligation to take care of him when he's unwell. He's still friendly about it though.
**優しい (yasashii) - kind. This word pops up a lot to describe Segasaki, we'll talk about it at the end of this episode.
Y: Um... is this okay?
S: You wanted to go back there?
Y: No
Y: This person, whose friends were always surrounding him...
I just couldn't understand why he'd walk together with me like this
It was a mystery to me.
Y: That face was... so close to me I could scarcely believe it
And it dawned on me then
How wonderfully pleasing
Even the notes of his voice drifting pass my ears sounded
The scene in the library I've included right at the top, but I'm going to add the conversation that happens during Yoh's monologue, since the subs have them sort of mixed in.
S: Yoh
S: What're you doing?
Y: Eh! Um, ah.. I'm looking for a book... (inaudible)
S: This book is interesting
Y: Eh?
Y: Thank you very much
S: Tell me your thoughts on it next time
Y: Yes
Segasaki's already dropped the polite suffix "-kun" behind Yoh's name here, and doesn't actually bother to let Yoh finish saying thank you before he tells him to report back about the book. Yoh on the other hand, is still using the full, formal and polite version of thank you, and answers him properly. Segasaki's taken the initiative to get closer to Yoh - he's already speaking to him like how he does in the present day (just, not roughly), but Yoh hasn't gotten comfortable enough yet to drop the formalities - or, he simply may not be sure if he can.
Navigating formalities and when to drop them is tricky, and requires some degree of social intuition. Generally speaking, Segasaki dropping a speech level should be a sign that it might be okay for Yoh to drop as well (not to the same level of course, just a little less formal) - but given how Yoh sees them as living in different worlds, and how fearful he is of being hated, it's unlikely that he'd want to touch the status quo.
Y: That person's feelings?
Yoh's pretty much stuck to the phrase "that person" when referring to Segasaki this whole episode, even during his flashback. He tends to do this when he's feeling some distance between them (like in Ep 2).
On screen messages:
Y: What is Kintsuba?
S: You don't even know what Kintsuba is?
Y: I'm sorry
[Yesterday]
S: I'll be back late today
Y: Understood
[Today]
(unread)
S: Just give the editor some kind of excuse, and come back right now
A: You've pretty much been cornered, huh?*
Y: Putting feelings into words and all... I've never really done that myself...
Y: Let alone (doing that for) another person's feelings.
*This is in reference to Man-san asking Yoh to write out Segasaki's feelings
A: Gonna mess you up, mess you up... x 10
Yes, this does sound like a line straight out of a bad Jp AV 🤣🤣. I mean, we're talking about scenes from Man-san's manga right? That they had to mosaic out? 🤣🤣
Now you know why Segasaki is pissed.
S: Kanami-san, are you also doing your work together with him?
M: I apologize! We ended up moving forward without even alerting you about it!
S: No, it's not your fault, Kanami-san
You can tell Segasaki has misunderstood here - he thinks Man-san has also been called to work at this Editor's place, and is completely not listening to what she has said, hence her ?? reaction 🤣
S: Ah, I apologize
An urgent matter arose, and so I've come to pick Yoh up.
Segasaki's being quite formal here, but this is not the way to be polite. The "proper" way to request leave to go home early on behalf of someone else would be to first, apologize specifically for the disruption, introduce yourself and your relation to that person, apologize that an urgent matter has come up, regrettably but firmly insist that said person must return home immediately on pain of death, apologize again for all the trouble caused, promise to make up for it, humbly ask for understanding, and then apologize your way out the door.
So yes, despite the polite word forms this is quite rude, and is so far removed from Segasaki's usual "public mode" that it cracks me up. Segasaki's composure is unravelling by the second in these next few scenes - he is pissed and absolutely does.not.give.a.shit. 🤣
From right to left:
S: So, this bastard is the famed Editor huh...
S: Don't you dare try to deceive and pull tricks on Yoh!
S: The hell you doing touching him like that so freely!!
A: Who (is this)?
The language gets progressively ruder the more the speech bubbles get pointy and the larger the font gets🤣🤣
M: Segasaki-san really has a strong presence after all~
Y: I'm sorry for keeping this from you!*
S: Tell me
Y: Yes
S: Is that what you like?
Y: Huh?
S: Compared to me, just how is that guy better?
*Yoh uses the full but informal version of "sorry" here - gomen nasai. Making a note of this here so I can come back to it in one of the analysis posts.
Y: Um, no...
Y: I don't think it's something that can be compared...
S: There is something, isn't there? Some way in which he's better than me
S: Though, unless you give me something I think is reasonable I won't accept it
Y: Well if I had to say something then... maybe, he's kind?*
Y: I mean, he listens carefully and attentively to what someone has to say...
*優しい (yasashii) - often translated as "kind", it encompasses the ideas of "caring", "tenderness", "thoughtful/considerate", "warm/gentle". It's often a trait people say they look for in their significant other.
This word has come up often to describe Segasaki - in Ep 2, Segasaki uses it to describe himself, in Ep 3, Yoh uses it to describe Segasaki's voice, and of course here in Ep 6, red shirt uses it to describe Segasaki again. Even when the word isn't said out loud, a lot of Segasaki's actions would fit this word - In Ep 2, when he picks up after Yoh and comforts him during their not-argument. In Ep 3, when he passes Yoh his gift, and implies there's nothing to be sorry for. In Ep 4, the way he coaxes Yoh. In Ep 5, when he takes care of Yoh. In Ep 6, he speaks up for Yoh in the cafeteria when he doesn't have to, when he goes to help Yoh. The irony of this moment is that Segasaki puts in a lot of effort and probably does pride himself in being yasashii, and he listens to Yoh better than Yoh listens to himself, and yet he hears from Yoh that he isn't yasashii or attentive, which explains the pained expression on his face.
S: Oh, is that so?
S: I'm going ahead then*
*わ (wa) - this ending particle puts emphasizes one's statement, but is not one that Segasaki usually uses. It's less forceful that his usual speech, because he's quite hurt by Yoh's statements.
Y: The thing that was inside my bag, I put it back so...
The way Yoh ends this sentence leaves room for a follow up - it's an invitation to continue the conversation, which we actually have not seen him do with Segasaki, and that's why he looks so dejected when Segasaki rejects that invitation by walking away.
Though it's been hinted at throughout the show, Ep 6 is where we get confirmation that Yoh's just never quite fit in with the crowd, and that Segasaki has always been in the center of it. The stark difference explains why Yoh is so afraid that one day he will do something to make Segasaki hate him, and why he reflexively rejects the idea that Segasaki could possibly love him.
This episode is painful, for both of them. For Yoh, because from the intensity of his monologues, we finally get a sense of how big a presence Segasaki is to him, and therefore, how devastating it would be to lose him. For Segasaki, because for all that he can read Yoh, for all that he has done to try and reassure Yoh of his love, he still cannot make Yoh see, cannot make Yoh hear.
"If he ended up hating me then I felt like I might die."
It is precisely Yoh's love for Segasaki that makes Yoh fear the possibility of losing him, and it is that fear that blinds, deafens and mutes Yoh to the very thing he hopes for. And it is in trying to protect himself, that he inadvertently hurts the very person he loves so much.
In seventh place, Mysterious Lotus Casebook!
May Li Lianhua live a long life [to be a hundred years old].
Mysterious Lotus Casebook was consistent both within and outside the drama. It broadcasted for only 18 days, a length as short as Li Lianhua’s lifespan. It is also as good as Li Lianhua, even now still not leaving lianluoren’s memory for a long time! In fact, its impact has continued to last even after the end of its broadcast: its iQiyi heat broke ten thousand; on Douban, it received a high score of 8.5 from 580,000 ratings; main and supporting roles gained fame [beyond fan circles] one after another; and it created all sorts of popular “lian-style” punchlines.
To summarize in a one-word poem: excellent!
As a mystery/wuxia/crime-solving drama, Mysterious Lotus Casebook has a lot of merits, but what has left the deepest impression upon viewers must still be its characters!
Within the jianghu alone, we have seen too many pleasant surprises.
Jiao Liqiao went insane to the point of completion, and also loved to the point of infatuated obsession.
Qiao Wanmian no longer waited for someone to return, and instead picked up and drew her own sword.
Di Feisheng recognized one person as his well-matched adversary and thus, in this lifetime, would not let him go.
Fang Duobing was naive and inexperienced, yet also ardently righteous and utterly sincere [wholly devoted].
And from the Li Xiangyi who was number one beneath the heavens to the Li Lianhua who had set everything down, his arrival was on a small boat, and his departure was carried away by the currents of the river. After experiencing a splendorous farewell to the entirety of the jianghu, he chose an ending that he himself liked.
That the drama’s after-effects were so great has to do with how it made viewers feel after they finished watching.
Within the hurried bustle of the human world, it told a story of setting things down; of bidding goodbye; of sudden enlightenment in a moment’s time; of no what-if’s and no need to look back; of “How it was in the past, was good; how it is now, is also good.”
So it turns out that with a single thought, the heart attains peace; and lotus flowers truly can bloom all around.

Kishibe Cafe has arranged various exciting live performances and art exhibitions throughout the year of 2023. Towards the end of the year, we invite artists and musicians who have participated in our previous events to collaborate and perform in newly formed group sets.
The mix-and-match sets are as follows. Kozma Philo Liu from Dope Purple will join up with Sun Jenga from World Synth Records. The representative of Berlin-school in Taipei, Golden Jade, will collaborate with contemporary sound artist Immanuel Dannenbring. Further, A.P.R.A from Scattered Purgatory and choreographer Eileen Tu will transform music and dance into a crossover interplay. The final set belongs to the cooperation between two cafe owners— Silent Jeff and Eri Huang.
To celebrate our anniversary, a 2023 retrospective exhibit entitled “In a Cafe,” curated by Claire Yun-wei Huang, will be held in Kishibe Cafe. The exhibition conjures the notion of “element reconstruction” by way of tracing the past and archiving transitory moments. On the day of the opening party, the key and temporal theme of “element reconstruction” will be represented through various approaches to sound and visual display. Different kinds of performances will be interwoven in the same space yet different temporal realms. Difference and repetition are, thus, re-contextualized as a form of practice and reflection: the daily-life experience of staying in a cafe shares similar features with the repeated attempts at appreciating a piece of artwork.
In addition to the exhibition and live performances presented at the opening party, we organize book/artist fairs and invite rare-book coordinator Old Zingy Zines, independent publisher Passepartout, and artist June Ying Hsien Lee to showcase their books and artworks. Don’t miss out on all the fun and excitement in Kishibe Cafe, and we wish you a joyous end to 2023.
Zhang Shuohang (Sean) is the sunny, cheerful and energetic Year 4 university student He Bowei. He’s a delivery rider and somehow time travels from the year 2000 to 2022 and become delivery dispatch rider Dai Zheni. The first order he receives is from a customer Hai Yi, played by Wang Zhaowei. This fated meeting is the beginning of the Dahai (meaning Big Sea) CP’s fated love story. Interestingly, Zhang Shuohang was only 5 years old in the year 2000 (born 1995) and to immerse himself in the background and time, he went around to look for 40 year olds to chat with, like taxi drivers, restaurant helpers, neighbours etc., to ask them what was popular at that time. He also observed many different types of dispatch riders for his role. He laughed, “Whether you’re a person who rushes about or not, all dispatch riders have one thing in common, which is to rush to deliver their next order!”
Cool and handsome Wang Zhaowei’s (Linus) character Hai Yi is a demanding rich heir who’s spent most of his years overseas. To immerse himself in his character, he also did plenty of homework before the shoot began, including how to speak and how to walk to reflect that demanding part of him. He said, “It’s more difficult to train for the way of speaking (like that). He’s not fierce or just loud, he needs to pair the tone with emotion and let others feel it in their conversations.”
With his great physique, he trained even more for the show as Hai Yi is a Qinna (Chin Na) expert, so he needed to train a lot with regards to the martial art actions.
The handsome Chen Xi’an (Anson) is an actor who has a lot of acting experience but this is his first time doing a BL drama. His character is Liang Wensen, the aloof superior who’s cold on the outside but gentle on the inside. To match the image of an elite manager in a professional setting, aside from reading books, he also had to consult with some of his friends who are in high managerial positions to ask them how they think or feel about their work and also to observe their work. He also planned for some microexpressions to be used for his emotionally introverted character. Aside from that, he also trained/worked out a lot for a better look overall.
It is the second time that thick-browed, young and youthful Xu Tao (Jason Tau) is doing a BL drama, acting as Lin Huai’en, who grew up in an orphanage. He is a newbie in his workplace who is constantly ordered around and will get into a relationship with his supervisor, acted by Chen Xi’an (Senlin Forest CP). Xu Tao said that his own personality is aligned with the character, he is overall more gentle and warm and during his time as a student he spoke to himself a lot as well, so he can understand how lonely a person gets. In contrast to Chen Xi’an who had to build on muscle, he had to become even skinnier. And for him, who has a very healthy skin colour (on the tanner side), his challenge was definitely putting on sunscreen repeatedly!
Today's guests are a couple from Sweden who came the day before yesterday. After the perfect sunny weather the other day, today's mountain weather was winter for the first time in a long time. They are quite impressed by the scenery, so I wanted to show them the view.
Thanks to this, we were able to show them a view like this. They were happy that they could not see such a sea of clouds because there are no high mountains in Sweden.

It's clear where we are skiing, while it's cloudy in the other areas. Lucky!
The lower the elevation, the softer the substrate, the wider the tree spacing, and the gentler the slope, the more she seemed to enjoy it.
And him, of course.
Here, that was nice. Do you want to climb back up and go for another one? I'd love to!
While climbing back up, the plant biologist was intrigued by the beech.
Wow. Amazing patterns. Beautiful.
Look at this moss. I've never seen anything like this. Take a picture.
Certainly the pattern of the beech is interesting.
By the time we skied the second run, it was foggy. Well, it's a forest, so it's not a problem.
As we skied further down, the substrate became even softer and the snow was heavy but fun.
We finished a little early, so We went to eat ramen. Even though it was a weekday, all the restaurants were so crowded that I almost became a refugee from lunch, as they say. The ramen I finally ate was delicious.
Translation: Eula and Collei in Secret Summer Paradise (Part 1, quest 1)
Game: Genshin Impact
Developer: HoYoverse
Fan Localization: Dusk
Specifically when Eula gets embarrassed over running into fellow knights Kaeya and Klee in Gandharva Ville, Sumeru.
Fan Translation
Kaeya: I didn’t think going on this trip would make me run into the Captain of the Guerilla Company on vacation. What a coincidence.
Eula: …Why’s everyone here? Tch…*
Paimon: Didn’t she look kind of embarrassed just now…
Traveler: Don’t mind her so much.
Traveler: Anyone up for some afternoon tea?**
Collei: Ah, right, right! Yeah, let’s go!***
Eula: No need to do this even if you’re considering my feelings. You guys misunderstood. I’m not embarrassed about it.
Collei: If you say so…****
Official Translation
Kaeya: What a coincidence. I didn't expect to run into a fellow Favonian captain this far from Mondstadt. How's the vacation going?
Eula: ...Seriously? Bring the whole crew, why don't you? Tsk...
Paimon: Is it just Paimon, or does Eula not look particularly thrilled right now...
Traveler: Well since we're all here...
Traveler: ...Who's up for some afternoon tea?
Collei: Oh, cool! Great idea! Let's go.
Eula: If you're trying to accommodate me, there must be some misunderstanding. I'm fine. There's nothing embarrassing about running into colleagues in the wild.
Collei: Uh, but earlier you were…
Translation Notes: Official translation provides some context for Eula’s embarrassment but also gives a different vibe with just a few minor changes (again). Eula’s company is the Guerilla Company in Chinese. The vacation part in Kaeya’s line is localized well though.
*Based on voice, dialogue, and expression, Eula seems embarrassed in Chinese (and Paimon also points out she seems embarrassed). But in the official English location she downright sounds hostile in words and voice (despite her expression) so Paimon says she doesn’t look “particularly thrilled”.
**Directly it’s “Everyone, let’s drink afternoon tea together” but the idea is that it’s a suggestion instead of request.
***Collei sounds kind of embarrassed in a “I don’t know what to do so thanks for getting me out of this awkward situation by suggesting we drink tea” way. Also, since it’s in Gandharva Ville, that’d imply she’s a host scrambling to please her visitors.
****This line is really vague because it’s not a full sentence. Directly speaking, it’s closer to “That’d better be the case for you…” but Collei looks away and mutters this to herself in a sad musing way while looking unconfident. Eula is rather straightforward in saying the Knights misread her being embarrassed, so Collei is probably thinking something like, “I’m trying to lessen the tension by offering to make afternoon tea for everyone but Eula declined my offer, which feels embarrassing, like I’ve done something wrong.”
-- Would you tell us more about what you've experienced in the world outside show business?
Sato Masaki: I've realized that there are so many different kinds of people in the world. There're people who work too hard and that makes them end up crying or quaffing liquor to escape from the stressful reality. I had never heard of such things before. One day I went to a restaurant by myself, and when I got up from my seat, I bumped into a woman sitting at the table next to mine. She got really angry with me. But she didn't seem like the type of person who would usually say such a thing, so I asked her back "What's wrong with you? Are you in any trouble?"
-- I didn't expect the situation to develop that way (laughs).
Sato Masaki: Then the woman suddenly bursted into tears. I asked "Are you all right? How old are you?" She said "I'm 21, soon to be 22". As I replied "I bet we're in the same grade!", we started a lively conversation. According to what she had told me, her job was pretty hard and she didn't get paid enough for it. And then, to make matters worse, her house caught fire. So she was left with even less money.
-- She didn't notice that you are Sato Masaki during the conversation?
Sato Masaki: No, she didn't. But as we kept talking, I told her a bit about myself. Of course, I didn't say anything about Morning Musume. Then she wondered and asked "Why do you have so many unusual stories? You seem being kind of solitary. Didn't you ever have a boyfriend?" I said "I've never had a boyfriend so far". she responded "That's too sad!" and got sympathetic to me just like our roles got reversed. In the first place, I had never got yelled at just by bumping into someone. But as I looked into her anger, I understood that the emotion "sad" could lead to "anger". I've learned it thanks to her, and I also realized that everybody lives worrying about others, which I've never paid much attention to throughout my life so far.
-- Now you've learned about the real world through your own experience.
Sato Masaki: You can say that. In the middle of our conversation her boyfriend came to pick her up, and I expected it would help her to calm her anger. But she got even angrier telling him "You're coming too late!" I was shocked once again. Still I I've learned many things by listening to their conversation, such as, she gets angry because she loves him, you need to get rid of your own values to build up a common values between you and your partner, and something like that.

The commitment to beauty when standing on stage
1) An honest heart
Since a person’s conditions – good or bad – can be revealed on stage, my feelings and mentality are very important. No matter how healthy I am physically, if I’m not feeling good psychologically, then I can’t do a good performance, so firstly I want my mental health to be good. That’s my wish (laugh).
It’s also important that my point of view and my heart is aligned. No matter if it’s for acting, dancing or singing, I’m wary of the creation process: the presentation of how to deliver and portray the performance to the audience. As a stage performer, it’s not exploring places I feel good about, but rather thinking it from what’s the best perspective that the audience would enjoy. Also, people have greater impression of the performance on greater things rather than small details like makeup, so I also think it’s important to think of the overall framework. How I dress up and how I make my face look sharper are some focus points too.
The stage is not created by one person, but formed with the first time with the performers, the staff, and the audience. I feel so grateful to the audience’s presence in the corona pandemic, and because there are more days where I spend the day alone, I can only feel myself breathing on stage. Unlike the cheerful vibe in the rehearsal room, but the vibe created because of the audience’s presence. That’s what makes this world so enjoyable for me.
When I see the underclassmen just practising and keenly pursuing to do better, it really moves me and I can see that they really have a direct sense of love to the stage when they rehearse and I find that very beautiful indeed.
Since I entered Takarazuka because I was fascinated with its stage, when I performed in the stage of the Flower Troupe 100th anniversary at that time, while inheriting from the traditions, I think it’s beautiful to see how there are irreplaceable things even if my style is continuously updating and changing. Be it the new things in every performance and stage I create together with the people I regard greater than family, the things upperclassmen teach underclassmen, the lessons I learnt from upperclassmen I admire...that point about Takarazuka is really amazing.
I want to have something healing (LOL). When I receive a phone call from my niece or nephew, or see videos or photos of my dog, or breathing the nice air and looking at the scenery on a drive...In order to have a healthy heart on stage, I’ll relax at once when I’m offstage, and I think it’s necessary to spend some time when you don’t have to think of anything. I’d really want to go to the hotsprings or the sea or somewhere I like, but since most of them are closed, I’d have to find something healing to spend the time.
Isn't there a saying that if your heart is frustrated then your surroundings show it? If I return home to a messy house, I’d think “Ah, I was so tired before” (LOL). That’s why I can’t let that happen. I like to be surrounded by good scents, and there’s the after-shower aroma spreading in the house and I’d feel so happy when I smell the aroma from the fragrant pouch when I sleep. I’d open the window in the morning to let the air circulate a bit, and thought of different things so that the house won’t be stuffy. If I have time, I’d also decorate (the house) with some flowers.
When I’m contacting my friends and mutuals, or watching a comedy and laughing along with it, I think it’s important to have a time to laugh unlike the time when I’m on stage. I laugh when I watch the telvision...maybe because I’m from Kansai (LOL). Because I have a time to have a heartfelt laugh, I could continue doing better again tomorrow.
The pose when dancing the kuroenbi dance. When I wear the white shirt contrasted with the black swallowtail, and you can see the white within the black together, I love that it's the most quintessential essence of an otokoyaku in an otokoyaku kuroenbi dance. For this beautiful pose...it doesn’t turn out good right now so I’m sorry (LOL).
They experience the same happiness and sadness and go through the same cycle during performances with me...I’m cleansed by this profound love and their warm thoughts and this is my source of working hard. Alternatively, there’s also times when I wanted to show this side of myself to the audience. Their existence is already indispensable.
youtube
