The Art of Friendship
Welcome! In this fic, Cato meets up with his friends Helena and Erika in the Hogwarts training grounds, where they end up having an important, constructive conversation about the values of friendship and teamwork. Happy reading! I hope you enjoy! 😊
Helena Durazzo belongs to my good friend @helenadurazzo
Tumblr media
Clear skies and a fair temperature overlooked the Hogwarts as Cato exited the hall and set foot on the tame grass of the training grounds. He had been to the library to return a book that was due and went outside to take in the weekend's morning weather. It was early November coming in from early October. The week after Halloween was marked by a pattern of warm days after much rain the previous month.
Cato noticed two witches, a Slytherin and a Ravenclaw, come from around the corner, Helena Durazzo and Erika Rath. Helena has been close friends with him since childhood. Rath was the beater from Slytherin's team that Helena introduced to Cato as a friend. While athletic and in good physical shape, Erika was quiet, stoic and seen as intimidating by most of her peers. She was often misunderstood and the target of rumors by Skye Parkin. The truth was that while Erika was a guarded and reserved person, behind the shell lay a strong, loyal and devoted heart who was watchful over the people she trusted.
The Ravenclaw boy was first approached by Helena. “Hey, Cato! I hope the morning is going well for you.” she happily greeted him.
“Hey, Lena!” Cato replied. “It is! I returned a library book on quick notice. Madam Pince is perhaps the most uptight librarian I’ve met.”
“Yep, she is. With her, due books are better off taken back to the library on time. I wouldn’t want to cause problems for her either.” Helena agreed.
Cato asked his best friend how she and Erika were doing. “What about you and Rath? How’s the day for you two turning out?”
Helena nodded. “Good, Cato. We were coming back from some Quidditch practice that me and Erika were doing one-on-one.”
The two witches began dating each other sometime after they became friends. Both were beaters of their respective Quidditch teams and bonded through their one-on-one training. Eventually romantic feelings developed between Erika and Helena.
“Hey, Erika.” He greeted the Slytherin beater. She was clad in her usual green athletic outfit. “Good day, Cato. I hope you have been taking care of yourself. Ravenclaws like you and Helena deserve a break as much as any student or quidditch player.”
He answered with a confident smile. “I’ve been trying my best. Aside from dropping off that book, which I can’t say counts, not much on my plate this weekend.”
“That’s good to hear, Cato.” Erika affirmed. “I hope you and Helena have been too.” he said.
While Erika nodded, the Ravenclaw girl commented “Her training has its challenges, but we look out for each other and rest a bit if we have to.”
The Slytherin beater often trained on her own away from the others. Perhaps before she was old enough to join the Quidditch team, she started honing her skills with the bat. They had gotten to the point where she had an impressive command over the bludger. Fortunately, the training dummies Erika repeatedly dealt punishment to were very sturdy and took a lot of beating. Anyone who didn’t know her and witnessed her practicing the role of a beater could immediately understand why she had a reputation as distant and unsettling.
Cato knew this as a regular member of the Ravenclaw quidditch team. He was also familiar with the rumors that Skye spread about Erika which attempted to label her as an imposing bully. He never believed rumors easily and specially took Skye with a grain of salt because of her hotshot, troublemaking behavior. Cato was slightly nervous when he and Erika first met, but he still gave her a chance because Helena introduced her to him. They were both protective of Helena. However Erika was more steadfast in this than Cato was. This sometimes got to her.
"Those bludgers are very unpredictable." Cato remarked. "I hope Helena doesn't end up in the hospital wing from being hit by one."
Erika took it a bit heavily. "Like I would ever let that happen, Cato. What makes you think I would let Helena get hurt on my watch?"
"Well it's a completely different story when a bludger strikes someone. Even with Skel-e-gro, they're still going to be out for a week." Cato replied.
"It is not necessary for you to tell me what I already know." Erika touted.
Cato squinted his eyes and looked, waving his hand. "I know how hard you hit those targets with those bludgers. What's not to say one of them hits some bloke just passing through?"
"We never practice around bystanders!" The Slytherin beater exclaimed with an annoyed look.
Helena crossed her arms as she witnessed the two argue with a mix of seriousness and concern in her face.
Cato put his hands on his hips. "I care about others around me when I practice. This is why Madam Hooch wants nice, clean games, Erika!"
"I do not hurt people during matches on purpose. Quidditch is a high action sport at a rapid pace. The referee does not want players to cheat or deliberately harm others. Most injuries happen during the matches because it's unpredictable." Erika explained in a somewhat heated tone.
Helena attempted to intervene. "Did we really come out here to argue over something not worth the headache? You two need to take deep breaths and calm down."
"Then what about when you struck a bludger that one time at-" Cato started in a heated tone before he caught himself. He shook his head before he cupped his hand over his face, realizing he had made a scene in front of his best friend and Erika's date.
"Look at you. You're in a mess." Erika told Cato with concern.
In a somber voice, he apologized. "I'm sorry, both of you. I carried it on."
"I must take some responsibility too for this." Erika stated. "My mistake was starting this. I shouldn't have treated your word too harshly."
Helena reassured her childhood friend. "Cato, it's okay. When Erika mentioned that we care a lot about safety when we train, she meant that first thing."
"Yeah." Erika affirmed with a nod and small smile. "For years I have been studying the art of a beater. The safety of the match is of equal precedence to winning, scoring points with the quaffle or catching the Golden Snitch.
Adding on, Helena agreed with her date's words. "Exactly, we care about the people up in the stands too. They are our fans who cheer our teams on and support us during the match."
"Both you and Erika are right. Some of our fans are our friends too. They may be players whose teams are not in the match, or don't play Quidditch at all. No matter what, they all deserve our equal respect."
“Exactly!” Helena exclaimed in response to Cato.
Erika put her hand on his shoulder. “Cato, I forgive you for keeping it on.”
“Same to you, Erika. I’m glad all of us are on the same page here.” he said as he shook hands with her.
In a satisfied voice, she remarked “Me too, Cato. No matter what, it’s unconditional - even if Slytherin is playing against Ravenclaw, my love for Helena will never drop at the toss of the quaffle to start the match.”
“That’s very true, Erika. It all comes down to the houses we were sorted into as first years. While the Sorting Hat allows us to have a say when sitting on the stool, most of the time he picks our house based on our personality and life experiences as kids.”
Cato nodded. “Quidditch is a sport too, it is meant to bring people together through athletic competition. One should not assume that the members of a team hold something against the rival team off the pitch. It is called being a good sport."
“I have always been a believer in good sportsmanship.” Erika related. “That is why I did not like Skye trying to spread rumors about me. I do not stand for players using the games as an excuse to talk rubbish and get at people they have problems with. Drama is not how I enjoy Quidditch."
“Me neither.” Cato agreed. “I prefer to stay away from that too. I will listen to rumors and anything going around, but it would be unwise for me to assume them to be true.”
Helena chimed in. “Fights and gossip are not my thing as well. When stuff stirs up, I like to go to the greenhouses and work with the plants to get a break from the hustle.”
Cato smiled and noted “We’re all in it for being a good team.”
“That’s right, Cato.” Erika said. “You can always count on me to keep both myself and Helena safe while training or in a match. I do my best.”
“Me and Cato have been friends since we were very little. Our parents get along well and we spend time at each other’s homes. We look out for each other like siblings.” The Ravenclaw witch explained.
Erika nodded “What I said also includes you, Cato. Both you and Helena are part of the team. I put my mates first above anything else.
He shared the sentiment. “The safety of my friends is also important to me, Erika. I would do anything I can for their well being.”
“That’s good, Cato. Remember though to be aware of your limits. Only do what you know. There is no need to make promises you can’t keep."
“She’s right.” Helena told her best friend. “We are not expected to take on everyone’s problems. There is only so much we can do. It’s important for everyone to understand.”
“Indeed.” said Cato. “As a Ravenclaw, I can say that there is no way we can know everything. A bloke can be knowledgeable on many subjects but not all of them. That’s just how the world works.”
Erika agreed. “Correct. That’s why teams exist. We specialize in different abilities and compliment each other to achieve our goals. Take quidditch as an example. There are different people who are good at chasing, beating, keeping and seeking. We all practice for our own roles on the team. However, communication, awareness and respect amongst the players are also essential to being successful on the pitch."
“Well spoken, Erika.” Helena said to her as she smiled.
“I feel we have reached a new understanding as friends.” Cato declared.
Erika felt the same. "I think so too."
"I'm with you both on this. We know that we can rely on and trust each other." finished Helena.
Cato was confident. "That's for sure!" He said happily. "If Sky or anyone else tries to push rumors about you, Erika, I'll debunk their codswallop."
"You will not have to do that." She assured me with a smile. "Both of you have my back so I will not listen to their rumors."
"For every enemy you make, there's always going to be a friend." said Helena. "There will always be some people who will take a dislike to us. Adding on to what me and Cato said before, their problems are not our own. We should place our own happiness first, ours and of those we care about."
They all nodded in agreement.
"I'm glad to have both of you as friends." a happy Cato remarked to Helena and Erika.
"Me too, always!" chimed the Ravenclaw witch.
"Glad to be with you, Cato." affirmed Erika.
Helena then had an idea. "Perhaps to celebrate, how about we all go as group to the Three Broomsticks for butterbeer the next time we go to Hogsmeade?"
"I'd love that, Lena!" Cato said excitedly. "Wish me luck trying to resist that." he laughed.
Erika was also in. "I would be all down for that. Sharing a butterbeer with my friends."
"You deserve it." Cato then told her.
Helena was eager in her tone. "So it's all settled then."
"I appreciate it. Thank you both. Really."
"Anytime!" returned Cato. "You're always welcome to join us, Erika."
As the trio started to walk back into the castle, Helena pleasantly said "You two are among the people I can always trust and confide in fully. For that alone, I'm grateful."
The small group of friends conversed together as they left the training grounds, looking forward to their get-together at the Three Broomsticks.

The only sounds that rang out through the building were the three pairs of feet that sped through the reception, a large open place with a few benches along the walls, and a large array of constellations and planets on display on the domed roof above them, as well as a large wall behind the stairs with a large carved logo of the moon and several stars, with the initials “TMF” carved next to it. Two of the three flashed passes of some kind to a receptionist as they beckoned the third to follow them. “C’mon!” Agent Terra said, panting, “We should be able to make it!”
Tumblr media
Matthew nodded, trying his best to keep pace with the twin agents as they darted down a corridor. However, they had the slight advantage over him in that they had not spent their night fighting for their lives and scrambling through a building full of people wanting him dead. The prize Matthew had won by doing so, in his hands, his other hand went down to clasp his hip. Of all the times he could have developed a stitch, he supposed it was once again his luck that it would occur at the final hurdle. Still, he gritted his teeth and sprinted towards the others as they went up the stairs and turned the corner, before slowing as they came to a door.
They had gone down a corridor labelled “Senior Astronomers’ Offices”, running past various cabinets filled with trophies with awards labelled with “The Midnight Foundation” for outstanding services, charity work, or other such endeavours. However, Matthew’s eyes only focused on those for a moment before turning to the door the Agents had stopped in front of, seemingly deciding which one of them would open the door. Eventually, Gaia relented and knocked thrice below the sign that read “Professor Helena Ravenclaw - Senior Astronomer” The three looked at each other, Matthew unable to risk looking down at his watch.
“Come in.” said a voice from within. Wiping the sweat from her brow, Agent Gaia opened the door, revealing a larger-than-expected room with a large window at the back, providing a view of several London landmarks along the river Thames. The other walls were adorned with various astronomical charts, as well as a projector screen, Matthew’s eyes widening when he saw it was showing camera footage from the Reflection building. Once again, however, his eyes were drawn to what was directly before him, namely the woman sitting at the silver desk.
Between a Newton’s cradle and a clock that read 7 minutes to midnight (Matthew had to force himself not to weep with joy when he saw that) sat a woman who looked to be in her thirties, with long black curly hair tied behind her back. She had a dark blue suit jacket on with a matching tie, and pale silver-blue eyes that glared at the group that had entered her office. Her eyes flitted between the twins, to Matthew, to the ID Machine he held. Her expression did not change as she leant forward, pressing a button on the keyboard in front of her.
“Agent Gaia. Agent Terra…Agent Moon.” she said finally. “What do you have to report?”
Gaia looked at her brother and gestured; clearly since she had knocked it was thus Terra’s turn to speak. “Agent Galileo, we are pleased to report that our mission was a success. Agent Moon was able to locate and secure the device used to identify and eliminate agents of MI6.”
Galileo (somehow the name already replaced Helena in Matthew’s mind) blinked, her expression unchanging. He was sure that she would address that technically two Agent Moons had been involved in this mission, but instead simply said. “Very good. Agent Moon, if you would allow me to examine the device?” she said, making it sound equal parts a request and an order. He stepped forward and held out the ID machine, and while he had hoped to do it silently, he couldn’t help but mutter the word he said more than any other. “Uh, here, ma’am, um, sorry-”
She stopped in her tracks, both their hands on the device. “Sorry? Whatever are you sorry for?”
He could feel Gaia and Terra glaring into the back of his head, unsure if they were angry at him or simply confused at why he’d apologised. To be honest, he wasn’t sure why he’d done it either. The adrenaline from the mission gone, he felt the memories of the previous night weighing upon him. “I just…well, there was the whole mess with the earpiece and me suddenly just becoming Agent Moon and the stuff with the sniper and-”
“Matthew.” Galileo said, slowly taking the machine. “I may call you that, yes? It is quite alright. Believe me, this was one of the cleaner missions we’ve had, especially for an unofficial one. And you don’t have to worry about the nature of your recruitment. I joined the Midnight Foundation in…a similar way.”
“You did?” Gaia and Terra asked simultaneously. Matthew merely nodded along, his mind still full of flashes of gunfire, the flashbang, the decision to use his bracelet as a knuckle duster, the consequences it had.
“You’ve been through a lot, tonight, but you’ve managed something incredible. Agents Gaia, Terra, Moon, your mission is accomplished at four minutes to midnight. And worry not, we’ve had many far closer calls than this.” Galileo reassured Matthew, sitting down at her desk once again, and gesturing for the others to take a seat. “Now then, I suppose we should move on to the debriefing, as long as Agent Moon is not too badly injured. Agent Moon?”
The question barely registered with him. The knuckle duster. The punch, the glazed, confused look, the stagger out of the lift shaft, the gunshot, the way the card fell from his bloodstained suit-
“Matt!” Terra said, finally causing him to look up. “You’re …”
He looked down, and saw that there were multiple cuts and scratches that had been made along his arms and chest. He must have got them when the Knight of Swords (the card in the guard’s pocket) had a hold of him and was trying to force him out of the shaft. “I…sorry, I didn’t…”
“Take him to the medical area.” Galileo ordered. “Once he’s ready, return here for debrief. And Matthew, you do not have to apologise. You had no warning whatsoever for this…your predecessor, however, did.”
Gaia and Terra helped Matthew out and back down the stairs, both of them seeming just as nervous as he was. When they were a fair distance away from the office, Gaia sighed. “Can’t believe her! Blaming M-, er, Bill like that!”
“Quiet! You know how she can listen in via camera.” Terra hissed. “Besides, it’s…not like she’s wrong, he even said it himself.”
Gaia rolled her eyes. “Still, it’s cruel, especially since he’s in the hospital. I dunno…how you holding up, Matty.”
Matthew simply shrugged, clutching the bruise that hurt the most. “S-Sorry, I just…never been good at describing pain and…all suddenly washed over me.”
“Don’t worry, we get it, Galileo’s pretty scary at times-” Terra admitted.
“No, it wasn’t her. She actually helped. She was nice.”
The twins looked at each other, a little confused. “If you say so…” Gaia said, sighing. “Here we are. These guys are the best at what they do, you’ll be fine.”
Matthew felt his stomach churn, and not just because of the bruises and cuts across it. “I…I just hope I’m not wasting their time, I’m sure they deal with far worse and to deal with someone who’s as much of a mess as m-”
On reflection, Matt felt that it was quite frankly embarrassing how quickly the feelings of dread vanished from his mind as he walked into the so-called medical area. Before him stood a woman who somehow seemed more than fine with being awake past midnight. She had silver-white hair and a lab coat over medical scrubs, and was taking a sip from her coffee when the group came in. She smiled softly as she got up, kicking her chair under her desk as she walked over. “Ah, hello! You must be the new Agent Moon! Galileo sent me a message in advance! I’m Agent Luna, why don’t you sit down and we’ll take a look at you?”
Matthew suddenly felt less like he was in a spy headquarters and more like he’d gone to the doctors for a check-up. Bewildered by this change in tension, he obeyed Luna’s instructions and scooted over to the bed/chair/seat that the room had. He tried to shake himself out of the state he was in and turned to Gaia and Terra. “Th-thank you, really, I…I don’t know what I’d be doing without you, especially with everything going on around here, I, um…”
“It’s alright.” Terra reassured him. “We’ll be waiting for you outside, too. Got to debrief after all. Just let yourself relax. That’s what this place is for.”
He and Gaia waved and left the room, but as they opened the door to leave Matthew saw someone short with black hair walking past. He was convinced he was seeing things, but they closed the door before he could see them properly, leaving Matthew feeling as alone as he had in the lift going down in the Reflection building. He remembered that Agent Luna was there, however, and turned to her.
“So, you just got recruited, is that right?” she asked, typing away at her computer (which actually seemed quite modern, which was new for computers in doctor’s offices that Matt was used to seeing). “Thrust straight into a mission? That certainly would explain the state you’re in, my word…how were the twins? They didn’t bicker too much, did they?”
Matthew shook his head, only now realising the earpiece was still in his ear. “Not really. I mean, sometimes, but it wasn’t too bad. They still helped me through everything, saved me a lot of times.”
“Mm, that sounds like them, yeah.” Luna chuckled. “So, what’s the damage?”
Matt looked down at himself, the suit which had looked brand new at the start of the night now dirty and bloodstained. He wasn’t sure if it made him more or less nervous that the blood seemed to be his and not the guard. “Well, I’ve got cuts and bruises across my stomach, that’s where most of the pain is, as well as across both my arms.”
“No bullet wounds or anything? Hmm, quite impressive for a rookie. You not had any formal training, then?” Luna asked, pushing her office chair over to him.
“Well, not really, just sort of the basic training they give everyone in MI6 but…not as intensive, seeing as I was in IT.”
“Ah, the classic downfall of the MI6 types. We never really saw the point of dividing things like that. Sure, people have different strengths, which is why they tend to take different roles, but we all had the same start and then specialised. Like you, right? You said you were an IT guy but then completed a successful field mission! The old Agent Moon definitely picked well, if you don’t mind me saying.” She said, before going a little pink. “Sorry, didn’t mean to ramble.”
“I-It’s ok, I…tend to ramble a lot too, goodness I was a mess in front of agent Galileo, um…”
“No, I totally get that. If you could roll up your sleeves and lift up your shirt?” she asked, examining each injury once Matt did so. “Nothing too major, but some of them will scar going into the next few days. Hey, Aquila! Can you bring the box of sprays out?!” she yelled, apologising when Matthew winced.
The other door in the office opened, and a woman with black hair and a chocolate bar in her mouth appeared from within an attached office. “De boffs dof sbrays?” she asked before removing the chocolate. “Sorry, the box of sprays, right? One sec. That the new guy? Glad to see he made it in one piece, ha!”
Luna sighed. “That’s Agent Aquila’s way of saying hello. Don’t worry, you’ll get used to it…eventually.”
Aquila returned with a box full of various containers, presumably with sprays within. “Here ya go! And don’t worry babygrill, if you end up sticking around, we’ll be sure to patch you up! And we give out free chocolate!”
“That was meant to be a surprise!” Luna said, exasperated. “S-Sorry-”
“Really, you don’t have to apologise, she seems nice.”
Luna nodded, pulling a few of the sprays out of the box. “Well, it’s lovely to meet someone so accepting. Hold still now, these might sting a little.”
After several sprays, and several winces from Matthew, Luna allowed him to put his shirt back down. “Now, I’d also say you need to get out of those dirty clothes, but since you don’t exactly have anything else that can wait for a while. Oh, and here’s your chocolate!” She got off the chair, inviting Matthew to do the same, and handed him a wrapped piece of circular chocolate. “It’s a moon! It’s even got little craters in it, which I suppose means you get less chocolate, but still, that means it’s healthier, right?”
Matthew laughed, and felt like a weight had released itself from his shoulders. “Thanks so much, Luna.”
“Don’t mention it, Moon! Welcome to the Midnight Foundation!” She said, waving. Aquila stuck her head out again and waved too, Matthew repeating the gesture as he left the room.
He found Gaia and Terra sitting just outside, the both of them immediately getting up from their seats. “You ok? Get some stuff for the injuries?” Terra asked, pausing to yawn. It had barely registered to Matthew that it was so late, he’d more or less been running off of adrenaline since sunset. Still, he nodded in return.
“Good, good.” Gaia said, looking just as tired as her brother. “Come on, let’s get back to Agent Galileo. I get the sense that this is going to be one hell of a debriefing.”
They made their way up the stairs once again, once again returning to the part of the building that looked like an astronomy society. “So, everyone’s got agent names based off of…well, space names?”
Terra nodded in reply as they once again passed the receptionist, climbing the stairs past the large wooden carving of the Midnight Foundation’s logo. As they walked, Matthew kept his eyes on a swivel, just in case he saw whoever it was he thought he’d seen earlier. “Yeah, so you’ve got me and Gaia, both old names for the Earth, you and Luna being names for the moon, Galileo being, well, Galileo, plus a lot of people named after constellations.”
“Oh yeah,” Matthew remembered, “I met Agent Aquila while I was with Luna, so that makes sense.”
“Did she call you babygrill? She tends to do that. A lot.” Gaia said, her face growing uneasy as she approached the door once again, gesturing for Terra to knock.
“Come in.” said Galileo, in an identical cadence to the first time. The three walked in and she gestured for them to sit down, not looking up from whatever she had in front of her, which included her computer, some papers, and of course the ID Machine. Once they had sat down, she finally turned her head to look at them. “Well…I think to say that this mission had some unexpected turns to it would be something of an understatement, wouldn’t you?” The other three agents nodded before she continued. “But let’s review this from the very beginning. Three weeks ago, I tasked Agents Gaia, Terra, and Moon…that is, the current Moon’s predecessor, with investigating MI6 from within to find a cause for the high number of casualties that were occuring. Now…” she said, turning to the twins, “When and how did your group first make contact with Matthew Luther?”
It was Gaia who spoke up. “W-We found that one of the people that MI6 had tasked with investigating the problem had discovered an actual connection, and so worried that they would squash it, as MI6 have been doing recently, the, uhm, former Agent Moon decided it would be best to intervene directly and work with that person to properly investigate the area that was triggering these incidents.”
Galileo simply nodded, her fingers still on the ID Machine. “Very good. Now, you are all on the same page, I feel comfortable informing you of certain developments. Namely regarding William Weasley. He’s currently being treated and is in a stable condition. You’ll be able to visit him tomorrow if you wish, as visiting hours are over for now.” She gestured to the time, 25 past midnight, before turning to Gaia and Terra. At last she held up the ID machine. “I’ll have you two take a look with it alongside Agent Scorpio and Agent Andromeda, but it seems a fascinating contraption based on my own investigation. Not to mention the fact that I found this.” She opened the machine up fully, both the screen and the case itself, and pried away some sort of drive. Underneath it was a card identical to the one Matthew had found on the guard. He pulled that one out of his pocket on instinct.
“You were informed that we had noticed a group using tarot cards as identifiers, yes?” Galileo asked, not waiting for a full answer before continuing, “It would appear that this group is far more dangerous than we first assumed. That card was the Knight of Swords…as for this one…”
She turned the card and laid it face up on the table. It depicted an angel-like figure with two goblets in hand, passing water between them, with the word “TEMPERANCE” written below in large lettering. “Temperance, meaning balance and moderation, or if reversed, an imbalance or excess, or in some cases re-alignment.” “Could it mean something?” Matthew asked, “Like, why would whatever this group is put that card out of all…however many cards are in a deck-” “78-” “Thank you, Terra. Out of 78 cards…maybe…”
“It’s certainly something to look into, as we will with the Knight of Swords as well as the High Priestess, just to be sure. It seems you’re starting to form something of a collection here, Moon.” she said, smiling for the first time as she collected the two cards together. “Now to deal with the elephant in the room: your agency.”
Matthew suddenly felt like that sniper was once again aiming at his chest. “Y-Yes?”
“Well, it’s certainly unorthodox. Most transfers of agency don’t come mid-mission, and certainly don’t result in a successful mission. Bill’s faith in you, it seems, was well-placed. Despite your current occupation as a member of the IT department, you showed initiative and skill that we expect from our field agents. You impressed a lot of people with your actions tonight. As did you two.” she pointed to Gaia and Terra, who both looked like they’d almost fallen out of their seats. “You guided a rookie through a dangerous mission and got him out of there with this.” she said, pointing to the open ID machine. “You all saved a lot of people’s lives, and prevented deaths from going unchecked. Well done. At the same time…”
She sighed, looking at Matthew, this time with a degree of empathy. “It’s clear that this experience has taken a toll on you. Which is why I want to emphasise that there is no pressure on you to remain part of our foundation. If you want, you can give up the agency, leaving it vacant, and return to your normal life. I’ve read your file and understand that you’ve had…difficulties…as a result of things that have happened in your past. And so…I imagine tonight has caused you a lot of mental anguish. Would that be an accurate assessment?”
Matthew nodded, not saying a word. Could he really just…leave? He’d blundered into a secret spy organisation that not even MI6 knew about, and was entrusted with a mission by someone who in a few short days had given him more support than anyone else ever had. Looking back at the “difficulties” Galileo had mentioned, it was as if they had far less impact on who he was. Tonight, it was like he’d seen more of himself than he had in the past several years.
“I understand this is a difficult decision, Matthew. And again, I want to emphasise that there is no imperative for either choice. We would be thrilled to have you join our organisation.”
Gaia and Terra nodded, the latter leaning forward. “Yeah, you were amazing out there! If you went through basic training too, you’d be one hell of a spy!”
Matthew went slightly pink. “W-Well, I mean…it was…” he paused, took a breath, and continued, the words almost painful to get out into the open. “...my brother was the one who went out in the field as an agent. He worked in British Intelligence too, so…guess it runs in the family?”
“In more ways than one, Matthew.” Galileo said cryptically, causing Gaia to raise her eyebrow in confusion. Galileo, meanwhile, pressed on what looked like an intercom system. “Send Agent Eclipse in, if you’d be so kind.” There were footsteps, the sound of the door opening, and a short man with black hair walked in. Matthew immediately got up off his seat in shock.
“Atticus?”
*** In that moment, an old memory emerged from years before this long, long night. It had been 3 weeks or so, maybe 4. Matthew had tried to keep count, but it just made him feel worse. His aunt and uncle were around, trying their best to help him and his Dad, but eventually they’d have to leave, and it would just be the two of them. To be honest, Matthew hadn’t even expected anyone from his mother’s side of the family to show up, it wasn’t like they ever did for anything else, after all. But after everyone else had gone out for some police questioning thing (it had all sort of gone in one ear and out the other when he heard it) there was a knock on the door. Quickly getting dressed, he’d left his room and approached the door. He opened it, and standing there looking a little uncomfortable in the warm weather was his cousin, Atticus.
“Ah, hello, Matthew. Are the others in?” he asked, his slightly German accent coming through.
Matthew shook his head. “N-No, they’re out, um…I’m not sure when they’ll be back, sorry-”
“I know, it’s ok, worry not. To be honest, I wanted to see how you were doing more than anything else.”
“Oh. I’ve…um…” he trailed off, unable to find the words. “It’s…been a lot.”
“I understand…I know I have not been around much, but…I wanted to see if there was anything I could do all the same. Especially since…your mother, my aunt is…somewhat unreachable.”
Matthew tried not to scowl at the mention of his mother. He was honestly surprised that she cared, after all, it was not as if she’d said anything. “Oh, ok…well…thanks for stopping by, ah…”
Atticus suddenly stepped forward, and yet did not move fully, stopping Matthew from shutting the door. “...I just wanted to say that…well…I understand that you were ready to take an entrance test for MI6, yes? In their computing department?”
“Yeah, but…now I don’t know…I mean, it’s where…”
“I understand, believe me. I’m not very good at all this condolences and grief stuff, but I think that at the end of the day…something like this might help you work through what’s happened. And…I think he’d want you to do it.”
Matthew blinked, his green eyes staring at Atticus’ identical ones. “You think I should still go through with it? What if I fail?”
“There is no shame in failure. Take it from someone who took years to learn that lesson.” Atticus said, his face softening. “...I should go. I…I’m sorry about what happened.”
***
“Ah, hello, Matthew.” Atticus, no, Agent Eclipse said, closing the door behind him. “I managed to catch glimpses of your exploits tonight, a lot of the agents were curious about just what the new Agent Moon was made of.”
Matthew couldn’t speak. Several times throughout the night, he’d wondered if he’d blink and wake up back in his bed, the names and events rapidly fading as his dreams tended to do. But this was the one that genuinely made him question himself. He stepped forward, looking him up and down. “...What the hell are you doing here?!” he exclaimed, blinking rapidly as he tried his hardest to process all of this.
“I work here, cousin.” Atticus chuckled. “...Maybe now wasn’t the best time to drop this on you, but…if anything would be the deciding factor in your choice to stay or leave, I figure it’d be this.”
“Eclipse, there’s no pressure for him to do so.” Galileo interjected. “From any of us.”
“Forgive me, but that’s clearly not the case.” Atticus pointed out. “Matthew, I am afraid that there is a fair bit of pressure on you. But has tonight not shown you are capable of dealing with it? Of not ignoring it, not ignoring that nagging part of you that wants to do something-”
“Lay off, Eclipse, for once in your life-” Terra began to say, Gaia turning around to protest as well. For Matthew, however, the argument around him just turned into white noise as he thought. He thought of his bedroom, where he’d sat so many times regretting and remembering. He thought of his desk at MI6, where so much of his work trying to make some small difference faded into nothingness. He thought of the building, the way he had scaled it like a knight climbing a tower to fight a dragon. He remembered the sheer joy he felt at sprinting across the reception, moonlight shining through the windows upon him and the bracelet. He turned to the large window, seeing that same moon. Tonight, unlike many other nights, he didn’t feel guilty for being up this late.
“I’ll do it.”
The argument stopped at once as the four other agents turned to look at Agent Moon. “You…will?” Terra asked.
“Really? I thought I’d screwed my argument over, thank goodness.” Atticus said, breathing a sigh of relief. “Good choice. You’ll make a fine agent.”
“We’ll be having words about this, Eclipse.” Galileo sighed, “Go on, here, take this to the tech group and see what they make of it. Gaia, Terra, you two go with him…and I’ll get Agent Moon home and explain what’ll happen from here.”
Gaia and Terra looked over at their new colleague. “Well, welcome I guess. Glad Eclipse didn’t scare you off.”
“I can’t believe you’re his cousin!” Gaia shook her head, looking between the two. “You’ve got the same eyes, but you’re so much nicer, friendlier, taller-”
“C’mon, let’s let them talk.” Atticus said bluntly, opening the door for the twins, who waved goodbye as they walked through it. “It is good to see you again, Matthew, or should I say, Moon. Welcome to Midnight.”
He closed the door, and Galileo sighed, switching off the projector and starting to move the chairs back. Matthew immediately moved to help, but she stopped him. “No, no, it’s alright…you’ve done enough helping for a night.” She yawned, suddenly looking a lot more casual than she’d done previously. “Oh, if you must, go on.”
They put the chairs away and rolled up the projector, closing the curtains as well. Galileo took a few items off of her desk and put them in her bag, the two cards included.
“S-So, uhm…” Matthew began, “what exactly happens now?”
“Now, we go down to my car while I explain the next four months for you. See, you are still Agent Moon, but I think you’d agree it’d be wise to put you through basic training just to be 100% sure. You’ll be fine, don’t worry-” she added, looking at Matthew’s worried face, “you can retake it as often as you’d like. The next round of training starts in two weeks, so really you’ve shown up just in time.”
Matthew followed her out of her office and down the stairs once again. “You’ll be in with a whole batch of recruits, who thankfully won’t know that you’re technically an agent, so it’ll be a level playing field.”
Before they could get out of the building, however, the receptionist stopped them. “Apologies.” they said, holding out a phone, “Call for Agent Moon.”
Galileo shrugged, gesturing to the phone, and so he took it. “H-Hello?” he asked, before hearing a coughing he’d heard at the very start of the night.
“Sorry, hey there, Matt!” Came the voice of Bill, “I hear you had one hell of a night, even by our standards. Don’t worry, this is a secure line, I’m at a Foundation Hospital. Oh, hang on, Herc, it’s ok-”
“What’s-” “Sorry, had a fellow agent visit and they fell asleep…me talking must have woken her up, that’s all.”
Matthew found himself chuckling as he heard this develop. “Glad you’re ok, Bill.”
“Oh never mind me, I’ll be lucky if they let me back in the building after this. You’re the one who finished the mission. Speaking of, how’d it go?”
Matthew looked at Galileo, who’d been listening in. She shrugged. “Take all the time you need. Most of my nights involve staying up like this.” Matthew nodded, finally letting himself relax, and Agent Moon proceeded to recount the successful mission.

Helena takes part in a selected few classes. Headmaster Dumbledore, after talking to the Professors, gave her permission to attend classes at her own will, and Helena was quite enthusiastic at being given such an opportunity; However, being a ghost does not let her take part in the classes as she would like to and, thus, some she attends to learn their theory, rather than their practice ( especially if, in the case of Charms, they require the use of a wand ). The classes where it is more likely to spot the misty figure of House Ravenclaw’s own ghost are: Astronomy, History of Magic, Potions and Transfiguration.

Hello and welcome to my blog!
It’s dedicated mostly to Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery. I’m caught up with the main story, and I do commentary for new chapters pretty regularly. From time to time, I do bigger, more in-depth analyses as well. In the latter case, I usually try to make it clear what part of the story it concerns, but keep in mind that there are spoilers here, and I won’t be warning about them every single time.
On top of that, while I rather don’t post NSFW content, it is not a “family-friendly” blog. There might be some tasteful nudity, adult humour, or mentions of violence etc. Also, I personally swear quite a lot. So, if it’s something that troubles you - you’ve been warned.
And what exactly you can expect to find here?
Tumblr media
First things first. In this house, we stan Patricia Rakepick, and here’s a detailed explanation why. Of course, I’m not saying that you have to like her too. Absolutely not. However, if you hate her guts to the point that you can’t be bothered to read what I have to say and consider the possibility that her role in the story might be different than it seems – I just can’t guarantee you’re gonna have a good time here since most of my content is based on this idea.
Another important concept I use in my posts is that Jacob we found in the Portrait Vault is not real. You can find the most important information about that in The Fugly Slut Masterpost.
If you’re interested in the lore behind the Cursed Vaults and ideas about how they work, I recommend checking The Cursed Vaults Lore Masterpost.
And if you have a bit more time and want to dig even deeper into Hogwarts Mystery, you can find some vast analyses gathered in The “HPHM Explained” Masterpost.
These are the most important things, meaning that it’s obviously not all. Whenever I write a more detailed post, I’m using one of the tags:
theory – these are usually longer posts with more evidence and more developed conclusions.
analysis post – here we have pretty much anything collecting information from various points of the story. It could be close to theory, semi-theory, or simply pointing out Jam City’s stupid writing decisions… It’s a pretty broad group.
about characters – these are basically analysis posts focused more on characters (than just the story itself).
Sometimes, I’m a bit more creative, too. My MC’s name is Helena Ellis, and she’s a Ravenclaw. You can find the basic information about her and my Jacob below:
HPHM Character Profile: Helena Ellis
HPHM Character Profile: Jacob Ellis
Now, the most important thing for me is my beloved child which is the series called “Secrets and Riddles”. It focuses on the relationship between Jacob Ellis and Patricia Rakepick, but I plan to eventually turn it into a re-write, starting from Y4. You can check its masterpost, and if you look into the tag alone, you’ll also find some moodboards, headcanons, updates etc.
If you’re interested in more of my creative stuff, go ahead and check the tags:
my writing – it includes all of my creative writing, though they’re usually one-shots.
my art – self-explanatory.
my creation – here we have whatever doesn’t fit two previous categories. There are mostly moodbords, but not only.
If you enjoy my content, you can support me on my Ko-fi:
☕ ko-fi.com/missnight0wl
That being said, all kind of feedback is always very appreciated – whether it’s through likes, reblogs, or comments! 💖
My inbox is open, so feel free to ask me anything. It might be about HP, HPHM, my characters, other things I sometimes post about, or we can simply gush over Hozier!

Hufflepuff was criminally underrated and underused
I just want to take the opportunity to appreciate this house and talk about how they could have been used more.
First Newt Scamander is cool with his awesome water dragons and all that.
Second of all, these Hufflepuff students must have been a complete vibe. Imagine working together to make a defense mechanism that drenches an impostor in vinegar. The other houses could never. Do you think they would have this cleverness? This creativity? This hilarity?
Third, their work was severely underappreciated? Like, who built Hogsmeade? A Hufflepuff. Who established the Department of International Magical Cooperation? A Hufflepuff. Who created Being, Beast and Spirit Divisions for the Department of Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures? Who established the Department of Magical Games and Sports? A Hufflepuff.
Don’t get me started on the random students. Who was the best Duellist? Diego, a Hufflepuff (1984-91). Who was a werewolf student? Chiara Lobosca (1984-91). We see you Nymphadora Tonks (1984-91). Who was the Leader of the Duelling Club? Karl Limpley (Harry’s time).
Yeah I may be here for A:tLa purposes but you know I do my research. Now let me say my actual points.
1.Hufflepuff’s values
Hufflepuff was the most inclusive house, valuing hard work, loyalty, patience, dedication and fair play. People have said that anyone can get in, rather than the other houses where you have to be special in a certain way.
But I think it’s inclusivity is what puts this house on a great advantage because you have a variety of people coming in. There are athletes, herbology people, clever people, tricksters, and all other types, that make up this house. (in theory, of course, there was little proof of this in the movie series and i genuinely wish they expounded on it a bit more because that would’ve added dimension to Hufflepuff)
And the values that a Hufflepuff is required to have does not hinder any of the students at all, unlike the other Houses. In fact, the boundaries set by Hufflepuff’s values encourage students to find loopholes and develop into better people. And this  was a prime opportunity to show that, with a character that was sneaky but followed the rules, or an athletic, brave person, with the most dedication to their house (Cedric doesn’t count) . In fact, they could have used the entire populace to show that when the Triwizard tournament was going on, with the House competing with Cedric in the fairest yet sneakiest way (it could also showcase the familial bond in terms of supporting Cedric).
The values that Hufflepuff had ensured a moral code but did not limit any students in any way. And I love that.
2. Lack of an aptitude
Slytherins are known for their cunning, Gryffindors are known for their bravery, Ravenclaws for their wisdom and Hufflepuffs for their loyalty. You can be loyal and cunning. You can be loyal and brave. You can be loyal and wise. Hufflepuff’s lack of an aptitude welcomed any personality and there weren’t certain restraints put on skillset or personality either, like the shaming of a Gryffindor for being into Herbology (Neville Longbottom), or an unconventionally smart Ravenclaw (Luna Lovegood), or a very morally upright, uptight Slytherin (im sure there was one, cant remember).
Not only did Hufflepuff encourage individuality, it also inadvertently discouraged immorality and arrogance, which was more likely in other houses. The fragile ego of the Ravenclaws could push them to unwise decisions  Quirrel and Helena Ravenclaw) and the Slytherins and Gryffindors had unlimited arrogance and felt the constant need to win, clouding their sense of judgement and minds (Draco and Harry).
Hufflepuffs don’t need all that glory. They practiced humility, and all these other values they had made them seem of clearer mind than the other Houses (except when it came to Cedric). This gave them an opportunity to focus on other things and build, solve and work.
R.I.P Narcissa, btw.

Ben Copper and Merula Snyde for Helena 😊
Thanks for the ask!
As always, send me an ask with one of HPHM or HPHL OCs and a canon character from the respective game and I will tell you what they think of each other.
Ben Copper and Helena Durazzo
Tumblr media
Ben’s Opinion of Helena
As a muggle born, Ben was afraid of most everything magical and his new surroundings. He was often a victim of bullying, especially to Merula Snyde. In a charms class, he befriended two Ravenclaws in his year named Rowan Khanna and Helena Durazzo, and the three formed a trio of friends. He started to gain confidence with his new friends and with Helena, even went to conquer some cursed vaults or if he didn’t go into any, help with the necessary preparations. The portrait vault in his fifth year and Rowan’s death in his sixth year caused his friendship with Helena to be tested with a number of rough patches. However, while they did have their disagreements, neither developed any hatred for the other and they simply just grew a part as they pursued their own careers, with Ben working for the ministry as an unspeakable and Helena working as a herbologist.
Helena’s Opinion of Ben
Helena, especially in her earlier years at Hogwarts, tended to have an easier time befriending her classmates if they were quieter or introverts. One of the first people she befriend that wasn’t a Ravenclaw was Ben Cooper, with whom she was good friends with alongside Rowan Khanna. However, stress started to build up in her fifth year as the portrait curse took hold. She and Ben went into the portrait vault with the rest of their team, only to be betrayed by their defense against the dark arts teacher. They disagreed on what to think of the betrayal but eventually gained a bit more of an understanding for each other’s stress after the death of Rowan. Still, while they occasionally saw each other after Hogwarts, the two eventually lost the close connection they had at Hogwarts and moved on to new chapters in their lives.
Merula Snyde and Helena Durazzo
Tumblr media
Merula’s Opinion of Helena
Merula’s mother never talked fondly of Helena’s mother’s family, the Hearsts, and in extension, the Durazzos as she had a friendship turned bad with Helena’s aunt. Merula learned quickly from her mother that the family was nothing but trouble and a disgrace. Merula was ready to prove her magical strength and was not going to be outshined by anyway, especially not someone like Helena Durazzo, who she challenged despite Helena having no interest in taking her spotlight. Merula joined R believing it was her last connection to her family and her name and did not think to much of it. However, she started to think otherwise after Helena angrily confronted her about it saying that she betrayed all they had done since their fifth year. Merula and Helena did not talk at all after their graduation and only saw each other again during the second wizarding war, when Merula decided to right her wrong and not join the death eaters and her parents.
Helena’s Opinion of Merula
Helena tried to stay away from Merula and her negativity, it was the last thing she needed after combatting already persistent rumors of her brother being dead or perhaps even joining the death eaters. As much as Helena wanted to avoid Merula, she kept crossing paths with her and engaged in a duel with her during their first year. Helena started to get along slightly better with Merula in her fifth year when the two were required to work together to get into the portrait vault, however that progress was reversed when Helena learned Merula chose R over Hogwarts. They didn’t talk much after that, although they did compete over who would be head girl. While Helena admired the fact that Merula finally turned away from the death eaters during the second wizarding war, to Helena it meant they were only allies and not friends, something both of them were fine with.

8, 9,13,14,18 and 24 Helena
Thank you for sending an Ask!!! tbh these questions??? gonna take me a while to answer 😂
8. Answered
9. Would MC/Jacob fight at the battle of Hogwarts or go into hiding/avoid the conflict? Would they survive?
Originally, I planned Helene to die after 7th year but that's been scrapped (or is it)-- Helene will fight, but El will be in hiding; because he's still not okay even after all those years after the Vaults' fiasco.
Both will live (or will they?) :)
13. Can MC see thestrals? Who did Mc see die in order to see them?
Helene has seen thestrals all her life. Maybe it was the from the first mark of her death, maybe it was part of the Family curse-- but honestly? Even if it wasn't from those things, she'd see them still because she watched her Aunt Marie die in front of her, because of her Cyrus; and watched on as the light faded from his eyes when she killed him in return.
14. How does MC/Jacob feel about muggles and muggle relations? Do they understand muggle culture and clothing? Do they use muggle technology?
Shortly after the elder Adler twins' demise, Erika swoops in to lock her memories of the traumatic events-- and takes her while doing her job, leaving a semi-amnesiac Helene to re-orient herself as Erika plays ambassador to the European, American, and Asian Magical & No-Maj enclaves; so she's grown quite comfortable straddling the two worlds... with the added benefit of seeing several political sides. As for technology, Helene recieves a rune-powered walkman a year before she goes back to London to stay indefinitely and attend Hogwarts, and has a collection of cassettes from several bands like AC/DC, Queen, and Aerosmith.
El, on the other hand, was a Chameleon. He has no care about the muggle relations, as long as his family is safe, then it's fine. As for Muggle culture/clothing, he fakes it if he's uncomfortable, but will drop the act if it's just him and Erika, and then Helene... but as far as it goes, Muggle Fashion are better lounge-wear, and owns a wardrobe full of it. On technology-- he treats them like a puzzle, much like Marie. They were the ones to develop the correct rune array for the walkman, and has long since experimented with other things.
18. If MC became a professor, what subject would they teach? Would they teach at Hogwarts or at a different wizarding school (perhaps in a subject not covered at Hogwarts)?
If Helene ever became a professor of something in the magical world, it would either be on Runes, Technomancy, or DADA, and honestly has no preference where she'll teach.
But technically she holds lectures on ancient and dead languages in the muggle world in her future, so... yeah.
24. If your MC could be friends with someone else’s MC, who would it be? What would their dynamic be like?
GOD HELENE HAS SO MANY???? MC FRIENDS???? YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO LIMIT MYSELF,,,,
I guess I'll start with the members of the HPHM discord, specifically the most Helene-vibeable:
Letha Shacklebolt ( @shacklebolt-girl ) - like Lera and I talked about, Helene and Letha have big Meridith Grey/Christina Yang energies and both would die for the other. Kinda soulmates, totally the other's person. Solid and first to reach a level 9 with her.
Anastasia Madison ( @chrisception13 ) - they've got a flirty and an agressively sweet friendship going on; a lot of their interactions start AND end with BCE (big crackhead energy). Absolutely in a firm level 9 friendship level with her.
Lilian Le'Reau ( @ravenclaw-craftsgirl ) - fellow academic, inventor, and perpetualy sleep-deprived gremlin-- Lilian and Helene hit off as v fast friends! Often will have to be seperated bc they can and will create SO. MUCH. CHAOS. the last of the Level 9 inside the discord.
Ana Díaz ( @alsogolden-ana ) - The first MC Helene had actually befriended, Ana simutaneously knows and doesn't the entirety of Helene. They,,, are supportive..... A solid level 8.
Alexandra Avery ( @helgship ) - 😶😶😶 they're also on a solid level 8,,, Helene was intimidated at first, but eventually they both wore down on each other's walls. Helene's maybe first crush, if I had to pick a gal.
Christian Ocacio ( @chrisception13 ) - trades tips and tricks, occasionally found conspiring together during detention. Absolutely supportive with each other :) and another solid level 7.
Kyril Vasiley ( @kyril-hphm ) - Now dubbed thee as knife buds, More BCE (big Clown Energy); probably will have a I'm-pissed-with-your-actions-so-I'm-retaliating-to-piss-you-off-too-(no-one-wins)-but-if-shit-goes-down-you-can-bet-your-ass-i'm-here-for-you relationship. A solid level 7 because honestly, I love them.
Kathryn Alice ( @kathrynalicemc ) & Jason Novak ( @death-or-sleep )- Parent friend, and some of the only people that can rein in Helene. Solid level 6 and 5 respectively.
Shay Maryanne ( @lowtoleranceforyou ) - absolutely Crack headed, HPHM Shay was reported to be one of OG Helene's protection squad. On level 5, nearly 6.

Harry Potter for the Ask Game 😂
Thanks for playing, let’s see how much I can fill for this one... xD
Top 5 favourite characters: LUNA LOVEGOOD, Hermione Granger, Draco Malfoy, Fred Weasley, George Weasley
Other characters you like: Cho Chang, Cedric Diggory, Sirius Black
Least favourite characters:the Dursleys, DOBBY, Dumbledore
Otps: Harry/Draco/Luna, Fred/Harry/George, Neville/Ginny, Luna/Ginny, Cedric/Harry, Remus/Sirius
Notps: Harry/Ginny, if we’re gonna stretch to the prequels then definitely Newt/Tina, honestly probably a lot more but I can’t think of any right now
Favourite friendships: Harry & Luna are legit my favorite dynamic, Harry & Hermione and damn I wish I would have gotten to see that Ron & Harry friendship book-readers keep claiming but the movies really didn’t sell it much...?
Favourite family:the Weasleys
Favourite episodes: doesn’t have episodes xD
Favourite season/book/movie: The Order of the Phoenix
Favourite quotes:uuuh I got none
Best musical moment: FINALLY SOMETHING WITH AN ACTUAL MUSICAL. *^* Okay, so, quite clearly one can not pick just one. But maybe Harry Freaking Potter? I just, I love A Very Potter Musical and A Very Potter Sequel a whole lot *^*
Moment that made you fangirl/boy the hardest: mmh, honestly, when rewatching, every time I fangirl the hardest when I first get to see Luna ^-^ (can’t believe she only joins the plot in the FIFTH movie >_
When it really disappointed you:that Luna only joins in the fifth movie like seriously :D”““ also every time I hear how Ron is actually a far more likable character in the books??
Saddest moment: WHEN THEY KILL SIRIUS. THOSE BASTARDS ;-;
Most well done character death:uuuhm yeah no. I got nothing, I don’t find the deaths very... convincing or well done and honestly, most make me actively angry because of the avoidability
Favourite guest star: David Tennant! Does that count as a guest star??
Favourite cast member: Helena Bonham Carter
Character you wish was still alive: SIRIUS BLACK. Seriously, JKR beat Harry down in so many different ways. It... It really wasn’t necessary to give him his godfather and then kill him off. The series would have worked just fine if Harry had gotten to live with Sirius past book/movie five :D”““
One thing you hope really happens: I’d love a TV show remake, to be honest? A season per book, fixing the things that they screwed up, including more character development - seriously, Luna joins in the fifth book, but what’s nearly worse is that Harry’s endgame love interest who was in it since movie 1 has had less interactions with Harry in FIVE movies than Luna did in that one movie, like c’mon. A TV show would give so many opportunity to flesh dynamics and friendships and characters out better
Most shocking twist: uuuuh that they tried to sell Snape off as a good guy?? That was shocking because I still don’t find it very convincing :D”““
When did you start watching/reading?: I started reading the series back when the first book was first released ^^
Best animal/creature: Hedwig
Favourite location: I mean Hogwarts?
Trope you wish they would stop using: beat-down protagonist :D Seriously, the double-dead parents was already a lot, the evil overlord trying to constantly murder him, the abusive aunt and uncle, the bullying cousin, the CONTINUOUS abuse like seriously they could have gotten him out of there after he joined Hogwarts, then the bullying from a teacher like what the fuq and good gods when it finally looks as though he could catch a break... Harry’s new godfather gets killed off... it’s just... so... much
One thing this show/book/film does better than others: I mean, there clearly has to be something, otherwise it wouldn’t be so... all-consuming...? But... personally, I genuinely can’t put my finger on it; it never sucked me in the same way it did with others from my generation ^^°
Funniest moments: most things the twins do :D
Couple you would like to see: I was very pleased when the movies changed things to Neville/Luna in the end, but like... I don’t really have any ships I’d WANT to see, aside from “gay it up”, because seriously
Actor/Actress you want to join the cast: uuuh I got nothing
Favourite outfit: the outfits are kind of all rather ridiculous? Probably Hermione’s Yule Ball dress??
Favourite item: the map or the cloak
Do you own anything related to this show/book/film?: no, I don’t
What house/team/group/friendship group/family/race etc would you be in?: Ravenclaw
Most boring plotline: THE FUCKING CAMPING TRIP. I swear there was no need to split that final book into two movies you coulda cut two hours of camping trip out of it, that is such a boring-ass drag it was mind-numbing
Most laughably bad moment:I... can’t think of one right now
Best flashback/flashfoward if any: were... were there flashbacks? Beyond the “look at how Harry’s parents got killed” and “look at Snape getting bullied”? Because I don’t think so and I don’t really dig either of these
Most layered character: Hermione?
Most one dimensional character: I mean thanks to the movies not really taking time to flesh most characters out... the majority, really...? Let’s say Vernon, because I think he was just as flat an abusive bully in the books
Scariest moment: okay so for me, as a smol child reading those books, absolutely Chamber of Secrets with the voices in the walls. I had nightmares and was scared of fucking WALLS for MONTHS
Grossest moment: can’t think of one?
Best looking male: Draco?
Best looking female: Luna?
Who you’re crushing on (if any): not really, no
Favourite cast moment: I don’t really care for these things ^^°
Favourite transportation: mmmh the teleportation through fireplaces probably?
Most beautiful scene (scenery/shot wise): I really don’t know
Unanswered question/continuity issue/plot error that bugs you:HOW THE EVER LOVING FUCK DOES FANTASTIC BEASTS FIT INTO ALL THIS SHIT. The first one was still fun, but then we get fashionable young Dumbledore to join the plot and suddenly there is ANOTHER Dumbledore who was never mentioned before and got to pose as Creepy Kid From The First One?? And why would kind, sweet Queenie mind-rape Jacob and join the bad guys and also wait did the bad wizards predict WWII was going to happen and like the bad guys yeah? Becaus ehonestly WWII is a solid call-out for humanity and where the ever-loving fuck is all of this going I have a headache, I just wanted to see a sheepish ginger collecting Pokémon magical creatures, not this hot mess
Best promo: I really don’t pay attention to these things
At what point did you fall in love with this show/book: never. I mean, I don’t dislike it - I regularly rewatch the movies, am literally right now rewatching them with my adorable Draco-fangirl girlfriend - but I never fell in love with this franchise

1st Wand: Blackthorn Wood; Unicorn Hair Core; 11 3/4 Inches
“Blackthorn wands, which is a very unusual wand wood, has the reputation, in Garrick Ollivander's well-merited opinion, of being best suited to a warrior. These wands appear to need to pass through danger or hardship with their owners to become truly bonded. Given this condition, the blackthorn wand will become as loyal and faithful a servant as one could wish.”
2nd Wand: Ebony Wood; Dragon Heart String Core; 11 1/4 Inches
“Ebony wands have an impressive appearance and reputation, being highly suited to all manner of combative magic, and to Transfiguration. Ebony is happiest in the hand of those with the courage to be themselves. Frequently non-conformist, highly individual or comfortable with the status of outsider. In the experience of Garrick Ollivander, the ebony wand’s perfect match is one who will hold fast to his or her beliefs, no matter what the external pressure, and will not be swayed lightly from their purpose.”

Professor Trelawney--She’s a wack-job, but not in a fun way like Kettleburn. Because of her involvement with the cursed vaults, Alex became that one kid in every year that Trelawney foresaw would die a heinous death by the end of the year (but she never does, so the cycle repeats at the beginning of each year, much to Alex’s displeasure).
Family
Marcus Tiberius Aurelius:
Born: August 12, 1945
Hogwarts House: Slytherin
Pureblood
The Aurelius family is an ancient and noble pure-blood family that was said to be descended from Roman wizards who migrated to Britain in the first century BC.
Strangely, every male born into the family is gifted with legilimency. Every male... and Marcus’s daughter, Alex.
The Aurelius’ weren’t originally blood prejudiced, often marrying half-bloods and muggle-borns. But after they were excluded from the Sacred Twenty-Eight, that all changed. The Aurelius family began to arrange marriages to traditionally pure-blooded families in hopes of restoring their reputation as a noble and prestigious pureblood family.
Marcus Aurelius, Alex and Jacob’s father, was the oldest of three boys and grew up to be extremely prejudiced against muggles and muggle-borns.
When Marcus was twelve, his youngest brother, Jacob, died in an accident involving a muggle motor vehicle which only reaffirmed Marcus’s prejudice against muggles.
Marcus’ middle brother, William, married a muggle-born witch in 1968. This would put a huge strain on the relationship between the two brothers to the point where they would become estranged. William, his wife, and his children would be killed by Death Eaters during the first wizarding war in 1980.
Marcus was the very definition of “tall, dark, and handsome.” He had shaggy dark hair and deep set brown eyes. He is described as ambitious, handsome, and charismatic.
At Hogwarts, he was a member of the Slug Club and was a chaser and captain of the Slytherin quidditch team.
There he met his future wife, Helena Blackthorn, the only daughter of a prestigious pureblood family from America.
Marcus was the strongest and most talented legilimens to be born into the Aurelius family in centuries.
This gift got him a job at the Ministry of Magic working as an interrogator. It was during his work at the ministry that Marcus developed his ultimate technique.
Marcus was an extremely gifted legilimens--proabably the greatest behind only You-Know-Who himself. He could not only see into a person’s mind without the use of a wand, but he could sense the thoughts of all those around him up to a one-mile radius. Marcus subconsciously sees into the minds of those around him without even trying. His legilimency is so strong that he often finds it harder to NOT use his ability. He is extremely proud of his power and used his job as a way to further develop his abilities beyond the average legilimens.
“Yeah, but you were so preoccupied with whether or not you could, you didn't stop to think if you should.”
While working as an interrogator, Marcus discovered that he could use his legilimency to send his own thoughts or visions into another person’s mind, driving them insane. From there, Marcus was able to deduce that if he was able to create and relay his thoughts into another person’s mind, he could force his will onto another person and control their body.
Marcus kept his technique a secret from the world. Any one who ever had the misfortune of being controlled by Marcus Aurelius never lived to tell the tale.
During the war, Marcus used his new abilities to not only interrogate Death Eaters, but to kill them as well. He developed a reputation as “The Inquisitor” for his ruthlessness.
When his son Jacob turned six, Jacob showed signs of being a legilimens. This made Marcus incredibly happy that he would have an heir to continue not only the Aurelius name, but his work as a legilimens as well.
When his daughter Alex turned three, she also showed signs of being a legilimens. This was a great shock to Marcus not only because up until that point, only the men of his family were born legilimens, but that she was able to use legilimency even earlier (and better) then his son.
Marcus started to train her along side Jacob. Marcus, overall, favored his son as his one true heir and secretly hoped that his power as a legilimens would continue to grow, but found that it was actually his daughter who had a true talent for legilimency, easily outclassing her older brother even at her young age.
However, after a certain incident when Alex was four and Jacob was eleven, Marcus stopped teaching his kids, fearing that they were growing more powerful then him.
Towards the end of the war, Claudius Aurelius, Marcus’s father and a known Death Eater, tried to recruit his son for Voldemort’s army.
Marcus idealized his father, but he refused to join on account that his wife was secretly a muggle-born and his own children were half-bloods.
Enraged, Claudius attacked Marcus. Marcus, using his mind control technique, killed his own father in self-defense.
After his son was expelled and went missing, he became extremely over protective and controlling over Alex because she the only remaining heir to the Aurelius family name.
Helena Rose Aurelius (née Blackthorn)--Mother
Born: April 2, 1947
Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw
Muggle-Born.
The Blackthorn family is prestigious pureblood family from the United States of America.
Helena Blackthorn was orphaned as an infant after both of her biological parents died from pneumonia. She was adopted by the Blackthorns when she was six years old after she accidentally used magic to defend herself against the abusive matron of the orphanage.
Helena has thin blonde hair and bright, icy blue eyes. Helena is very smart and compassionate and carries a strong love of muggle literature which she then passed on to her own children. However, she is also very insecure and needy--mostly due to her abusive experience at the muggle orphanage.
She met Marcus Aurelius (a seventh year) in her fifth year at Hogwarts and fell madly in love with him. However, when she discovered that Marcus was blood prejudiced, she couldn’t bring herself to tell him the truth about her blood status in fear of losing him. She continued to let Marcus believe that she was a pureblood and the two of them got married after Helena graduated from Hogwarts in 1965.
Jacob, their first child, was born a year later in 1966.
Alex was born in 1973, seven years after her older brother Jacob.
Ten years into their marriage, Marcus discovered that Helena was adopted and a muggle-born, not a pureblood as he had originally thought.
Marcus was furious with Helena for lying to him, but Britain was in the midst of the first wizarding war and Marcus feared that if word got out that his wife was actually a muggle-born and not a pureblood, she not only would be killed by Death Eaters (not that he would care, knowing the truth of her heritage), but their children as well.
Marcus couldn’t afford to lose his children. After the death of his brother and his children, Alex and Jacob were the last of Aurelius family line. The discovery that both Jacob and Alex were legilimens only made Marcus even more protective of his two children, and so he kept quiet about his wife’s blood statues and joined the Order of the Phoenix to fight against You-Know-Who in order to ensure the survival of his children.
Helena’s relationship with her husband deteriorated, but they were both horrendously protective of their children (especially during the war).
After the the truth came out, she fell into a deep depression and became very distant from her children.
When Jacob disappeared, that seemed to be the breaking point in her sanity.
Jacob Julius Aurelius--Brother
Born: September 30, 1966
Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw
Half-blood
Jacob was a boisterous child but often preferred to keep his own company rather then socialize with others, often adventuring on his own around town.
He is described as clever, mischievous, charming, and rebellious. His fatal character flaws are his narcissism and selfishness.
When Jacob turned six years old, he began to show signs of being a legilimens like his father. Jacob trained relentlessly with his father every day to hone his skills and practice his father’s special mind-control technique. By the age of seven, Jacob could successfully control and create realistic visions in another person’s mind.
While learning to control people, he found that the process was horredously painful on the recieving end (they often practiced on muggles and then obliviated them afterwards). Jacob found that he didn’t really care about the pain he inflicted on his victims and even took pleasure in knowing it was he who had the power to create such pain.
This was only one the earlier signs of Jacob’s sociopathic tendencies.
After his sister was born, he had no intention at first of becoming the “big brother” type. But as Alex got older and started to idealize him as her hero, he had a change of heart.
Alex became the most important person in his life... and the only person in the world he could truly love.
Between his parents tense relationship and his mother’s growing depression, Jacob took it upon himself to be Alex’s protector, mentor, and role-model.
When Alex turned three, she started to train along side him in legilimency.
Right before Jacob went off to Hogwarts (when he was eleven and Alex was three), during one of their training sessions, Marcus forced his children to use their legilimency to control one another.
Jacob went first. He stopped once Alex started to scream.
Marcus then ordered Alex to do the same to Jacob but she refused because she didn’t want to hurt Jacob.
Angered by his daughter’s insolence, Marcus attempted to hit Alex as punishment. But before he could, Jacob steps up to his sister’s defense and uses mind-control to stop his father from hurting Alex.
Jacob then threatens his father that if he ever tried to hit Alex again, he would use the training his father gave him to drive Marcus insane.
Jacob left for Hogwarts one tense month later.
Jacob, similarly to his father, became fascinated with furthering his magical abilities which led to his search for the cursed vaults and his involvement with R.
Claudius Nero Aurelius--Paternal Grandfather
Born: November 12, 1921
Died: October 1, 1981
Hogwarts House: Slytherin

Claudius was a beater for the Slytherin quidditch team.
Claudius was apart of an arranged marriage with the respected Carrow family. He married Elizabeth Carrow in 1944.
Claudius became a Death Eater at the beginning of the first wizarding war in 1970.
He disowned his second son, Antoninus, when he married a muggle-born. In 1980, Claudius ordered Death Eaters to murder Antoninus and is family.
Claudius attempted to recruit his eldest son to Voldemort’s army, but when Tiberius refused and told his father the truth about his wife’s wizarding heritage, Claudius tried to kill his own son and threaded to do the same to his “filthy half-breed” children.
Claudius was killed by his own son.

 Maximinius Gaius Aurelius--Paternal Uncle
Born: September 15, 1950

Jonathon Henry Blackthorn--Maternal Grandfather

Ilvermorny House: Horned Serpent
Pureblood
Jonathon was born into a wealthy and prestigious pure blood family in New York City. He became the sole heir to his family’s fortune when his older brother died from Dragon Pox.
Jonathon met his wife Catherine at Ilvermorny and married her shortly after they both graduated from school.
Unable to have children of there own, the two of them decided to adopt a child.
After hearing rumors about an incident at an orphanage where a little girl miraculously flung the head matron across the room, the couple suspected that the little girl in question was actually a muggle-born witch.
They met and adopted Helena in 1953.
A few months later, Jonathon is offered an editor’s position at the Daily Prophet and they moved to London.
Inadvertently tells his son-in-law that Helena was actually adopted.
After the end of the first wizarding war, he and his wife move back to New York and retire.
Catherine Marie Blackthorn (née Solomon)--Maternal Grandmother
Born: March 5, 1923

Background/History
Alex was born on August 31st, 1973.
Her parents were very distant for most of her childhood so grew a strong attachment to her older brother, Jacob.
When she was three years old, she used legilimency for the first time to read her brothers mind to see where he hid her stuffed toy.
She began to train with her brother and father to hone her abilities. At the time, she thought of it as more or a game then training.
After the incident where her father tried to make her use mind-control on her brother, her father stops her lessons, fearing that one day she could grow even more powerful then Jacob, and forbids her from ever using legilimency again.
Alex tries to obey her father’s wishes, but finds that she can’t suppress her ability no matter how hard she tries.
She kept her ability a secret from everyone until her fifth year when Dumbledore figured out what she was and arranged for Professor Snape to teach her how to control her ability.
When her brother goes missing, she was devastated. Jacob was her hero. And because of that, she always tries to make sure that he portrayed in the best light, often ignoring the parts of him that are less then ideal. Alex’s mind is very fixed when it comes to Jacob. She often refuses to believe or talk about anything that doesn’t correspond to the hero image she has of her big brother.
Her relationship only got more tense with her parents after Jacob’s disappearance. Her father became extremely controlling and over protective of her.
Her parents became very concerned when she started searching for the cursed-vaults (they even try to keep her from returning to Hogwarts in her third year) but secretly hope that her search will find answers about Jacob.
After graduating from Hogwarts, Alex joins Bill at Gringotts as a curse-breaker. With her experience with the cursed vaults, she easily becomes the best in her field and rises quickly among the ranks.
When the second wizarding war breaks out, Alex joins the Order of the Phoenix. She becomes one of the order’s top leaders, leading the rebellion along side other leaders such as Kingsley Shacklebolt and Aberforth Dumbledore.
After the war, she finally marries Charlie Weasley after dating since their fifth year and moves to Romania.
Personality
Intelligent, witty, and clever. Alex prefers using her brain rather then her wand to solve her problems. She’s very cool headed for the most part, but if she’s pushed beyond a breaking point, her emotions will get the better of her. Witty comebacks and sarcastic remarks are a must with this girl.
Compassionate. She loves her friends and family deeply and will do anything to help and protect them. She’s very empathetic so she's often the person her friends come to when they need advice or comfort.
Ambitious. Nothing will stand in her way once she sets her mind to something. That being said, she has a tendency to become self-absorbed and obsessed with her task, often neglecting herself and others.
Mischievous and cunning. Alex enjoys messing with people (especially one certain potions master) and gets a huge kick out of all the trouble she can get up to with Tulip and Tonks.
Brave. Alex is especially courageous and brave in the face of danger. She never backs down from a fight and will always stand up for what she believes is right.
Guarded. Alex guards her hearts like a Dragon guards its egg: ferociously. She fears letting anyone get too close her after her brother disappeared. However, if you can get through her defense mechanisms (usually some snarky comment), she is a true friend till the bitter end.
Misc
Her favorite book is a Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. Alex and Jacob used to read together before bed time. Their favorite bed time stories included Dickens, Dumas, and the Bronte Sisters.
She and her brother learned how to read and write Latin from their father.
Special thanks to @hogwartsmysterystory for the template and for inspiring me to do my own Hogwarts Mystery re-write. I used to think that doing a re-write would be stupid, but after seeing so many people having fun writing for their amazing MCs, I decided that I might as well join in on the fun.
I already have a draft done for year one, but I have some editing and minor planning to do before I move on. Hopefully I’ll be able to post the first chapter soon.

Interactive ghosts emit a particular scent to let those in the same room as them know of their presence; Helena’s is akin to wilted roses — pungent and saccharine, with a just a coppery hint in its mellow notes.
Poised and taciturn, Helena always had a preference for secluded places and thus her presence is stronger outside the castle, where she can hide among the shadows of the trees in the Forbidden Forest, never to be seen by Hogwarts’ inhabitants unless she wants to. And while it is feeble in comparison, there are some rooms inside the castle where she likes to spend time in — her own room, for example, classrooms ( preferably empty ) and the library. Over the years, many have taken note of a ‘‘ sweet scent ’’ in the air of these rooms but it was too faint for them to link back to Helena, to them known only as the Grey Lady of House Ravenclaw.

Nachtwacht Sorting
The past... eight months or so, I’ve spent quite a few trips to and fro work amusing myself by figuring out a Sorting for the Nachtwacht characters. Some were easy, some took most of those eight months. And since I’ve missed writing meta, I’m now sharing it with all three of you who care about this show.
A word on the Sorting Hat Chats sorting method
The method I’m using is the Sorting Hat Chats method: based on the Harry Potter houses, but quite a bit more developed.
This method gives people a primary and a secondary house. Your primary is your why, your reasons, what drives you to take certain actions. Your secondary is the how: how you go about reaching your goals, how you react to things.
This might not be the kind of sorting you’re used to from the Harry Potter books. No house is intrinsically good or bad, it’s all about how your traits manifest and how you react to things.
The full explanation is too long for this meta, but you can read it here (and I highly recommend doing so!). All definitions below are taken from that link.
With that said, let’s sort the Nachtwacht characters.
Tl;dr:
Wilko: Slytherin/Gryffindor Vlad: Hufflepuff/Slytherin Keelin: Ravenclaw/Ravenclaw
WILKO
Primary: Slytherin
Secondary: Gryffindor
Slytherin Primaries are fiercely loyal to the people they care for most. Slytherin is the place where “you’ll make your real friends”– they prioritize individual loyalties and find their moral core in protecting and caring for the people they are closest to.
Gryffindor Secondaries charge. They meet the world head-on and challenge it to do its worst. Gryffindor Secondaries are honest, brash, and bold in pursuit of things they care about. Known for their bravery, it is almost a moral matter to stay true to themselves in any situation that they’re in.
Of all the characters, Wilko was by far the easiest to sort. He is stubborn, he is brash, he charges straight at danger with no regard for his own safety. These are all the traits of a textbook Gryffindor secondary.
The Gryffindor primary would be exceptionally ill-suited to him, though. Lofty ideals are wasted on him. Doing the Right Thing is never as important as doing right by the people he cares about. And Wilko cares a whole lot; he is an open and guiltless Slytherin primary. Unlike Vlad, Wilko’s circle of people is limited: Vlad and Keelin and Vega, Sacha and Helena and Cooper, and the rest of the village as a distant third. These are the people he will prioritize.
Nowhere is his Slytherin primary clearer than in The Domovoi (2X4). His worst fear is losing the people he loves. It is a very Slytherin kind of fear and one that is bad enough to break him at the sight of Vlad and Keelin (supposedly) dead.
Tumblr media
His primary also makes Wilko the person who cares the least about the Night Watch as a concept. He cares about Vlad and Keelin. If the Night Watch is somehow detrimental to them, all ideals about protecting the earth go straight out of the window; when Vlad is forced to leave the Night Watch, Wilko quits on the spot (The Gate of Souls). No doubt, no hesitation.
Tumblr media
At his best, he is caring, willing to go the extra mile for the people he loves and ready to charge in so they don’t have to. At his worst, he is paranoid about any strangers and prone to taking decisions without informing or involving others.
‘Impulsive’ is a word that often gets bandied around with regards to Wilko. It’s how he expresses his (very loud) Secondary. Yet we are faced with an interesting paradox: Wilko may be impulsive, but his control over his werewolf side is exceptional. Whereas newly-turned werewolf Fran practically gets turned inside-out trying to resist the transformation once the moon rises, Wilko barely seems to notice it (2X10 The She-Wolf). Entire episodes take place during a full moon without Wilko ever mentioning it (4X4 The Protector). Only a super moon seems to have any effect on him (1X5 The Werewolf).
Wilko was born a werewolf, yet even among werewolves his control is remarkable (and remarked-upon by Vega in The She-Wolf). This lends an extra dimension to his impulsiveness: Wilko acts impulsive if and only if the situation presents a danger to the people he cares about. Giving in to his werewolf side would make him a danger to the people around him.
Tl;dr: Wilko is a loud and unapologetic Slytherin/Gryffindor: he prioritizes the people he cares about above all else and charges straight at danger in order to keep said danger from reaching them.
VLAD
Primary: Hufflepuff
Secondary: Slytherin
Hufflepuff Primaries value people–all people. They value community, they bond to groups (rather than solely individuals), and they make their decisions off of who is in the most need and who is the most vulnerable and who they can help. They value fairness because every person is a person and feel best when they give everyone that fair chance. Even directly wronged, a Hufflepuff will often give someone a second (or fifth) chance.
Slytherin Secondaries improvise. They are the most adaptive secondary, finding their strength in responding quickly to whatever a situation throws at them. They improvise differently than the Gryffindor Secondary, far more likely to try coming at situations from different angles than to try strong-arming them. They might describe themselves as having different “faces” for different people and different situations, dropping them and being just themselves only when they’re relaxing or feel safe.
Like Wilko, Vlad is motivated by people. Unlike Wilko, his loyalties are broader, extending to the community he lives in and to people in general. Vlad likes people. He’s willing to help those in need even if he doesn’t know them and/or they appear to be a threat initially (3x1 Het Monster). Befitting his Hufflepuff primary, he gives second chances and believes the best of people. This is equally likely to work out well for him as it is to backfire (4x10 Reika).
Less present in the actual show but very clear in the movie is his traditionalist and socially-conforming side. He has followed in his father’s footsteps as a member of the Night Watch, something that was long a goal for him (4X10 Reika). He is duty-bound and puts aside his own personal needs to keep the peace. Vlad, knowing he has to leave the Night Watch, argues within the framework of the rules the Council set up. He states his case, he tries to change their mind — but when it comes down to it, he professes that he has no choice. He has to obey. If the High Council says he needs to quit, he will quit (The Gate of Souls).
Tumblr media
His tendency to see the best in people makes him somewhat vulnerable to manipulation, especially from people close to him (4X10 Reika). This is, however, tempered by his Slytherin secondary.
Supplementary materials tend to describe Vlad as the strategist who has a plan ready to go before they go out to face the monsters. While there is truth in this, it’s not the whole truth: Vlad comes up with plans on the fly and changes them rapidly when the situation demands it. He likes to go out with a plan in mind, true, but he feels no need to stick to that plan. He is a quick thinker even when caught unawares (coming up with a plan right after shaking off brainwashing — 2X6 The Master Vampire). He is versatile and ready to make use of unconventional resources, such as bringing Sacha in the loop when Keelin and Wilko are taken out of commission (1X5 The Siren). On top of that, he has a bit of a manipulative streak if it serves his plans well (2X4 The Domovoi, both in his cheating at the start of the episode and his plan to use Wilko to draw in the monster. Jury’s out on how effective either of those instances were, but he did it anyway.)
Tl;dr: Vlad is a Hufflepuff/Slytherin: he attaches value to people and community, and is willing to give even those he doesn’t know the chances he feels they deserve. He is a versatile planner who can easily improvise and switch plans on the fly, using all resources available to him.
KEELIN
Primary: Ravenclaw
Secondary: Ravenclaw
Ravenclaw Primaries have a constructed system that they test their decisions against before they feel comfortable calling something right. This system might be constructed by them, or it might have been taught to them as children, or it might have been discovered by them some point later in life. But it gives them a way to frame the world and a confidence in their ability to interact with it morally.
Ravenclaw Secondaries plan. They collect information, they strategize. They have tools. They run hypotheticals and try to plan ahead for things that might come up. They build things (of varying degrees of practicality and actual usefulness) that they can use later– whether that’s an emergency supply pack, a vast knowledge of Renaissance artistic techniques and supplies, or a series of lists and contingency plans. They feel less at home in improvisation and more comfortable planning ahead and taking the time to be prepared.
Keelin took by far the most time to pin down. I have my suspicions as to why that is, but that would result in an entirely different essay (with a much higher salt content).
Here’s the thing about Keelin: depending on the episode, she switches viewpoints. Whereas Wilko and Vlad are usually very consistent in what drives them, Keelin will switch from a Hufflepuff’s care for people to a Gryffindor’s concern with what is Right seemingly without rhyme or reason. (It’s mainly those two. She doesn’t emulate Slytherin all that often.)
She is no Slytherin, that’s for sure. I debated Hufflepuff but she does not have the same instinctive concern for people that someone like Vlad (or Sacha, another Puff primary) has. She doesn’t share the steadfast conviction of a Gryffindor. In the end, it is the constructed, thought-out morality of a Ravenclaw primary that shines through.
Supplementary materials tend to describe Keelin as the emotional heart of the team. I… disagree. Strenuously. This may have been how her character was initially conceived, but Keelin doesn’t gravitate towards people, she gravitates towards knowledge, planning, preset rules and the things she’s already learned in the past. There are two examples of this I find most emblematic.
The first is The Time Thief (2X12): when finally breaking free of the time loop that takes up most of the first half of the episode, Keelin’s first instinct… is to plan. It’s to find out what’s going on and who’s behind their problems. Vega has to remind her to find Vlad and Wilko and inform them that something’s wrong.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second occurs in Cerberus, The Gatekeeper (4X5): when Keelin and Wilko get dragged off to be burned at the stake, Wilko begs Keelin to use her magic. Keelin replies as follows (emphasis mine):
Tumblr media
“I can’t! I swore to defend people and never hurt them!” (NL: “Ik kan het niet. Ik heb gezworen mensen te beschermen en hen nooit pijn te doen.”)
It’s not because she doesn’t want to hurt her friends (Slytherin). Not because she doesn’t want to hurt anyone (Hufflepuff). Or because hurting people is wrong (Gryffindor). No, she can’t because she swore an oath, a binding contract. She has built her morality through consideration, by weighing what is good and what isn’t and then sticking to that unless more compelling arguments are presented to her. (What does she accuse Vega of when Vlad needs to quit in the movie? Short-sightedness.)
Tumblr media
It explains why Keelin seems to switch motivations. I believe she is still very much in the process of constructing her Truth. A number of things she has taken from her upbringing (Black magic is bad, white magic is good — even if the latter is used to hurt people). In daily life she borrows from Vlad’s Hufflepuff most often, but it never comes as naturally to her as it does to him.
Left to her own devices, Keelin falls back on knowledge and things she has previously incorporated as truth, not on people.
Many of those traits bleed into her Ravenclaw secondary. Keelin’s default method of facing a problem is researching it. She collects information. She reads up on potions and spells. She falls back on all the things she’s learned in the past. She wants to have a plan all ready to go before she steps outside and when that plan falls apart, she has a hard time recalibrating (this is what sets apart her Ravenclaw secondary from Vlad’s Slytherin secondary).
Tl;dr: Keelin is a full Ravenclaw: her morality system is constructed and still a work in progress. She tends to draw on Hufflepuff traits when among other people, but left to her own devices she falls back on knowledge.

HPHM Character Profile: Helena Ellis
Thank you for tagging @callmederok ! 😊
I’m tagging anyone who reads this and would like to organise information about their MC. Please, let me know if you do it!
Created by: @cynicaljapanophile
General Information.
Name: Helena Sarah Ellis Age: Currently 15 Gender: Female Nickname(s): Majority of people, including her friends, call her simply Helena or Helen. During the fifth year, Charlie started calling her Nell. For family members though, she’s Ellie. Date of Birth: 23rd of June, 1973 Astrological/Zodiac Sign: Cancer Ethnicity: Welsh (father’s side), English (mother), American, possibly Jewish (maternal grandmother), Polish (maternal grandfather). Nationality: She was actually born in Cardiff, Wales, so technically she’s Welsh – even though she never lived there, only visited her aunt. Species: Human Blood Type: AB Rh- Blood Status: Half-blood Family:
Christopher Ellis, Helena’s father. A Muggle with a scientific mind who’s fascinated by the wizarding world (sometimes also terrified, especially after Jacob’s disappearance). He is is a Physics teacher in secondary school. Christopher had an older sister, Margaret, but unfortunately, she died of cancer when Helena was eight. His parents passed away as well, even before Chris met his future wife.
Alice Ellis (née Kowalski), Helena’s mother. The only daughter of Queenie Goldstein and Jacob Kowalski. True Hufflepuff, kind and hard-working. She works at the Department of International Magical Cooperation in the Ministry of Magic. Way more powerful than it seems.
Both Queenie and Jacob are a big part of their grandchildren’s life. They’re also close with Tina and Newt. Now, I didn’t spend much time on developing the Scamander family, however, I had a problem with Rolf’s existence in general as he probably should have overlapping years with Jacob and/or Helena. So I decided that Newt and Tina’s son moved to the USA, and that’s actually the relatives from the Christmas SQ. At first, it felt like a stretch, but then I decided that it’s even cute – you know, Tina went to England for Newt, and their son went back to America for his love. Affiliation(s)/Organization(s):
The Ellis family
The Kowalski family
The Scamander family
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry: Ravenclaw House
Occupation(s): Student
Magical Characteristics.
Form of Boggart: Her loved ones telling her it’s her fault. Helena blames herself for many things that hurt her friends, and she fears that deep inside, they think so too. She’s afraid that everything that’s happening with the Cursed Vaults is her fault, no matter of her actions. And that Jacob might be dead because she didn’t prevent it in time. Form of Riddikulus: Probably the same people in some light-hearted situations. Like Ben thanking her for believing in him instead of blaming for everything he had gone through. That is assuming she’d be able to cast Riddikulus at all (she probably wouldn’t if she saw Jacob). Form of Patronus:  A Spotted Hare. What do they see in the Mirror of Erised?  Helena wants the most to have a normal life. Not only for the Cursed Vaults shenanigans to be over, but so they never happened. Therefore, she’d probably see herself, her hair in a neat plait, her parents not being overtired, her brother holding his cat, her diary having entries starting with “Dear diary,” instead of “Dear Jacob,”… Just an average girl with the average family. Wand(s):
First wand:
Length: Twelve inches.
Flexibility: Pliable.
Wood: Acacia.
Core: Unicorn hair.
Description: Given by the game. It is said that Acacia wands often refuse to produce magic for any but their owner, and also withhold their best effects from all but those most gifted. Unicorn hair wands produce the most consistent magic, are the most difficult to turn to the Dark Arts and the most faithful. I feel like it’s something Helena needed at that time – something unique and powerful that chose her and will stay loyal to her.
Second wand:
Length: Eleven-and-a-quarter inch.
Flexibility: Fairly flexible.
Wood: Ebony.
Core: Dragon Heartstring.
Description: Given by the game. Highly suited to all manner of combative magic and to transfiguration. Ebony is happiest in the hand of those with the courage to be themselves and hold fast to their beliefs. Frequently non-conformist, highly individual or comfortable with the status of outsider – something that Helena has learnt over the years.
Animagus: A doggo! Pretty similar to the model in the game – just a light brown scrub. Amortentia: Her grandparents' bakery, petrichor, honeysuckle, grass, popcorn.
Appearance.
Height: Currently 163 cm (5’4”). She won’t be much taller by the end of school – pretty average 165 cm. Weight: I don’t know… About 50 kg (110 lbs)? She’s a rather slim girl. She loves to eat but she easily loses weight due to stress. Complexion (skin tone/conditions): Quite fair, probably with some acne every now and then. I mean, she’s a teenager under a lot of stress. Hair Color/Style: Her natural hair is light brown and wavy. In the fifth year, she made it darker – similar to Jacob’s shade. She usually keeps it medium length. Eye Color: Green.
Hogwarts Information.
Worst Class(es): Probably History of Magic. Not necessarily because of the subject (she actually likes to study it with Rowan, and she enjoyed study session with Ismelda), but because of Binns - as the teacher’s role is quite important to her in overall opinion. Also, she’s surprisingly not very good at Care of Magical Creatures. She’s a bit too confident due to everything she learnt at home and from grandpa Newt. She has the knowledge, but it’s not really structured. Luckily, she’s good at improvising and connecting facts. Best Class(es): Charms. Again, for a big part because of the teacher. She also likes how universal it is. Least Favourite Teacher(s): Binns. She respects his knowledge, but she hates his absolute lack of teaching skills. She also didn’t like Snape for quite a long time, but she grew weirdly fond of him. She even learnt to laugh at his jokes. Unfortunately, they’re usually not meant to be jokes… Favourite Teacher(s): Flitwick. She loves his passion, his dedication, his approach to students. She never attended any of her dad’s class, but she often imagines that Christopher and Flitwick are similar kind of teachers: infecting people with love for their subject, sprinkling it with a healthy dose of puns.
Honourable mention: Rakepick. They have their ups and downs on the personal level, but Helena admires her as an educator and a mentor. Quidditch: Meh. She doesn’t play herself. She’s pretty good on a broom, she understands the rules well, but when all the balls start flying around her, she feels lost. She cheers very loudly whenever Charlie or Andre play, but the social aspect of those events is more important to her than the game itself. Favourite Spell(s): Protego and Expecto Patronum.
Trivia.
(random facts about them, future job, face claim, theme song, etc.)
Helena has a piercing in her ear done by Tonks. At some point of the fourth year, Tonks wanted to convince Helena, Tulip, and Rowan to get matching tattoos. You know, because she was always hanging out with Helena and Rowan, she started getting closer with Tulip, and most importantly, she joined the team when they went to the Cursed Vault. Surprisingly, no one wanted a tattoo, but they agreed for piercing. And Helena was stupid enough to go first… The end result is really nice, but the process itself didn’t go as well as planned, making other girls withdrawing from their decision. Also, nobody wanted to pierce Tonks’s ear, and they stopped her from doing it herself.
