But instead of being managing to be all sneaky and close the door hiding henry in your room like a naughty teen with her boyfriend Henry was up and awake.
"Aha! Gotcha! Who said you could sneak out of bed this morning baby? I was lonely with out you~" you screamed and just about jumped out of your skin as Henry wrapped himself around you from behind dragging you back into him, nuzzling into your neck pressing an open mouthed kiss to it. Your shout of surprize had silenced both of the women's chatter making them jump, even Kal came darting back in gruffing as he leapt up the stairs heckles and tail raised and growling on high alert. Fuck.
"now why cant i get a good morning like that?" Tee giggled crossing her arms at the both of you, your mother eyed you both with a knowing grin and hummed agreeing. Henry snapped his head up and gulped. Fuck. You and henry stood still for a few seconds far to shocked at being caught with your pants down so to speak. You shifted on your feet but henry held you still hands on your hips using you to shield his nude form from your guests he hadn't known were there.
"O-oh shit- err good morning ladies!" He said turning red his voice higher than usual as he shuffled backward taking you with him. As he tried saving his modesty, he didn't take the covers with him because- well he had thought it was only you on the bus!
"I err- shit i didn't see you there... Sorry about almost flashing you both like that..." he said with an uneven tone tip toeing back into the room, still holding you at his crotch hiding the once half hard- now softening cock.
Tumblr media
"Good girl, where's your mother? Hmm? Your not supposed to be out and about alone are you?" Henry spoke slowly digging his fingers into the dense soft fur managing to find and hold the collar below the thick fur, then he leant down scooping up the lead what was still attached to her. Kal grunted and sat on the floor leaning his weight on henry's leg. Henry looked down and patted Kal scratching his ears chuckling. Kal's eyes still wide taking in the larger dog in front of him, it was comical Kal was used to being the biggest bear... but he was a good four to five inches shorted then this magnificent grey floofer.
"Kal, you okay there bud?... year she really is big isn't she, you best behave don't want her telling you off do you?" He spoke slowly calming both pups... and gosh did Kal look like a pup compared to her. Slowly both dogs leaned towards one another sniffing the air then with a happy yip Amii began licking kal... like a pup. Henry burst out laughing it was too sweet watching Amii sniff around his bear, whilst Kal sent his human a look clearly pleading for help as this new huge female smothered him with affection. But henry wasn't falling for it, Kal was wagging his tail just as excited to make a new freind.
Honestly henry was glad, akitas were fickle. They either liked you or they didn't. He got the feeling Kal would like this gentle giant for now he was a little awe struck over being smaller then something.

"Clark? Clark come and help me- I cant reach the milk! Its at the back again!" Martha said quietly you smiled. It took a lot of coaxing but you had indeed tried what Clark had explained as 'cow juice' and had developed a taste for it. So Martha had promised you milk every day if you liked. Which you did like. A lot. Clark pressed another kiss to you and walked off towards the milk refrigerators expecting you to follow.
You made to follow but a sweet scent hit you and you stopped mid step. It was wonderful and ripe, sweet and succulent. You pivoted and followed without much thought. Your feet found there way twisting around the display of 'leafy greens' to a bright colourful isle. You salivated at the smells. There were so many intoxicating scents you didn't know what to look at first.
You pressed a hand on a small net package full of strange green fuzzy balls. Kiwi's? You read and scrunched your face up at the peculiar name. Then plucked the bag up and held it to your nose sniffing. They smelled divine, like a type of food from home. Okriin a small soury sweet treat given to children on their birthing date. You sniffed again and almost cried. It was so similar but so different sweeter and fuller in the scent. You cautiously sniffed again and closed your eyes before tentativly prodding it with your tongue wanting to see if it tasted the same.
"y/n? Y/n?!- oh god there you are? What are you doing? You almost gave me a heart attack" Clark said racing towards you his mother behind him with the cart. He slid to a stop and blinked at you. As you scrunched up your nose.
"the texture of these are... Not very nice?" you said naively moving for the fruit again sticking your tongue out once more trying to discern if it was edible like this. Clark moved quickly gasping holding your hands that had the.. Kiwi's in it.
"no no.. No we- you don't eat them like that... You peel them and eat the inside, and we don't lick things in the shop okay?" he explained plucking the fruit from you and placed them in the cart, Martha chuckled into her chest she couldn't help it, you were extremely cute.

Kal proped himself up on his side and smiled sadly nodding. He knew. He knew the state they found you in was their fault. Thats why he was so adamant to look after you now to... make amends in a way. You'd proved you could barely survive on your own. But Kal was also angry; angry that you'd been abandoned, he had thought Bruce would atleast put something in place to look after you but he hadn't. Bruce hadn't helped you, he to busy saving his own skin and trying to fight him and the new regime. But he was more angry at himself you had been alone, with no means to protect yourself or really survive. And he should have known! He should have realised you were scared, that you would stay away from the new citizen system he put in place. That you'd fear being caught and killed like many of the others.
"I know, but we have her now... its going to be better now, we are going to right the wrongs love... we can give her the best life  look after her and nothing will ever hurt our little one again" his voice was strained his face in firm lines, hard and stone like. He truly was a god, carved in marble. Perfect. Diana nodded laying back curling herself around you. Kal drew a deep breath and shuffled closer winding his arms around his family, holding both his girls.
He chuckled when you grunted pouting in your sleep when he sandwiched you between Diana and himself. Trying to wriggle fee from the group hug.  But once again you settled after a few moments relaxing as you were now being warmed from both sides a small smile graced your face. Kal grinned and nuzzled the back of your head pressing chaste kisses to your bed ridden hair, he felt at peace having you here with him. And he meant what he said no one will ever touch his little babygirl.
Tumblr media
"what wrong? Whats going on?" you spoke quietly trying not to stare at the clearly sick monarch. You didn't want to see it, you didn't want to think of the implications of the illness he was clearly suffering.
"nothing gets past you does it my girl?" your father spoke jovially trying to lighten the mood but failed miserably, his chuckles dying off fairly quickly and he heaved a sigh. Your uncle broke the silence and your fathers hand slid to yours under the table and squeezed your fingers tightly trying to reassure you.
"I have summoned you here to discuss something that... Is very serious and the outcome will change the lives of many people. This is something.. I wished I could hold off but I'm afraid I cannot firefly" you bit your lip and braced yourself. This was bad news you could tell. A part of you thought for a moment of marriage, your gut churned at the thought and you felt sick all of a sudden. Where you being married off as a pawn? It was likely, it still happened even in this day and age it was just covered up with fairytale romance... Story book meetings and courtships, when in reality you were told that your to marry and that was the end of it.
"Y/n you are royalty. You were born in to a royal blood line that has ruled over this kingdom for nearly four centuries... And now it is time for you to take your place within it and do your duty" your father stated in his 'work' voice for the time being he was not your father, he was a prince. Heir to the throne and head of your family. And you were to listen and obey.
"You want to give me duties as a working royal?" you said sitting straighter only quivering slightly. You dreaded this, the publicity the duty and responsibility that you'd managed to avoid so far. But you knew one day you would have to take your place.
"yes dear. We need you. Now" your father said urgently, but there was something off. Like he was holding back, fearfull in a sense and it was not like him.
"Of course i will. Father I'm no fool I understand what my position requires of me and i will serve my country. You need only ask and I will obey. I only ask that i be given time to sort things out with the university security and such would need to be increased if they are having a working royal on campus-"
"I'm afraid its not as simple as that we... Are asking you to put your studying off" your uncle interrupted you making you frown. What? You furrowed your brow and made to shake your head but paused. It made sense... If you were to come and take on duties then the media may go wild and cause an uproar... They could cause issues on campus
"How long for?" you asked trying your hardest not to frown at your father and uncle
"Indefinitely.." the king replied holding your gaze firmly. it was then you knew this was serious, more so then anything you’d experienced before.

When the Time Comes - witcheress Ważka aka Dragonfly
The Witcher Lore (143/∞)
Gra Wyobraźni
Gra Wyobraźni, A Game of Imagination, is a pen-and-paper role-playing game published by MAG in 2001. There's no English translation of the system other than the ones created by fans, and even those are more focused on the mechanics of the game than the bits and pieces of lore. And there's surprising a lot of lore. Most of it obviously no longer applies to the versions of canon presented in the CDPR's games and Netflix show, but are still pretty interesting.
Gdy nadejdzie czas
On wiki the title is was translated to When the Time Comes. The story was published in polish rpg magazine Gwiezdny Pirat (issue 8 from 2004) written by Joanna and Maciej Szaleniec, writers involved in never published expansion about the Falka's Rebellion. Gdy nadejdzie czas was supposed to be one of the adventures leading up to that expansion, but unfortunately the publishing house MAG ceased to exist before it could be finished.
The adventure takes place in the 1160s in Gemmera, before the kingdom was conquered by Nilfgaard. The party should be composed of the Prince, heir to the throne, son of late prince Wodaryk and Dairida, who after 16 years returns to the homeland his mentor and other friends. The Prince had to fly from Gemmera when he was 12 - Wodaryk was killed by his own brother, Ponderyk. Ponderyk wanted to make it look like Dairida and her son were responsible for Wodaryk's death, so he could easily take the throne for himself. But the Prince managed to escape and only Dairida was imprisoned. The new prince of Gemmera locked her in a tower, Wieża Wiatrów [Tower of the Winds], from where she never escaped, lost her mind within the wall of her cell and eventually died. When the Prince and his party visit the tower they can't find anything that could have belonged to Dairida, no one other than her was held there, but it's just an abandoned place. Only the ones with really keen eyes can notice the traces of writing on walls, floors, and even the ceiling. All that can actually be read is a nursery rhyme:
Aa-a, kotki dwa, zaśnij już, córeczko ma, nie płacz, nie kwil, będziesz śpiewać, gdy nadejdzie czas.
My rough translation: Aha, two kittens / sleep my daughter now / don't cry, don't whine / you will sing one day / when the time comes.
[Also it seems to be to some extent based on the most popular polish lullaby Ach śpij kochanie that was first performed in the movie in 1938. So that's a fun fact.]
In this seemingly crazy rhyme, the Prince finds a clue that will help him fight Ponderyk - in her prison Dairida gave birth to Wodaryk's daughter and trusted Destiny to keep her safe.
As the Prince learns from common gemmerians, there was a legend about Wodaryk fighting a monster, just a few nights before he was killed. The seven-headed dragon lost most of its head to Wodaryk, but had the prince pinned to the ground, reading another attack, and then the vedymin from Stygga appeared. He proposed Wodaryk a deal, Vedymin will help with killing the dragon, and the prince will give him "what he already has at home, but doesn't expect". Wodaryk agreed and Vedymir cut off the seventh head of the monster. This story leads the Prince to believe that Dairida believed that her daughter will be safe in Stygga castle among the witchers of the school of the cat.
The party travels to Stygga, a grim, full of cruel mutants castle. The is plenty of gossips about the cat witchers and their experiments, who they change even the youngest ones, even the unborn ones. Cat witchers are fast and capable warriors and mages, with shattered minds - unable to coexist with the rest of society. But they greet the Prince and his companions and point out the child that was found years ago on a beach underneath the Tower of the Winds.
Ważka is a 15 years old witcheress - she's the monster slayer, not a princess. Uncannily agile. The only thing that makes her look anything like Dairida is her strong and healthy golden hair, braided in a single thick braid. She doesn't care about her legacy, but she agrees to go with the Prince back to the Tower of the Winds and try to find some other clue their mother could have left behind.
[Ważka is a name of insect, dragonfly, but it can be also a feminine form of somewhat old-timey ważki, meaning important, crucial]
Before the party reaches the Tower of the Winds they are however met with forces of Ponderyk and the prince himself. Most of the people of Gemmera heard of the return of the Prince and they start to doubt the legitimacy of Ponderyk's claim to the throne. That's why Ponderyk is forced to meet with his nephew and speak with him. Ponderyk tries to persuade the Prince to join him, as the fight between the two of them would inevitably lead the country to ruin. Ponderyk's speech is so successful that the Prince is ready to agree to do whatever uncle wishes of him. But Ważka doesn't feel the same - she's immune to Ponderyk's magical words and without even climbing down from her horse, she simply kicks uncle right in the jaw. The party regains their senses and realizes that they were under the charm - Ponderyk wasn't really speaking, his mouth is empty. Years ago he gave his tongue away for the magical powers of persuasion. The party fights Ponderyk's forces.
After the battle, the Prince notices that Ważka's clothing was ripped revealing her naked back and a weird old tattoo on her skin. The shape is deformed but still resembles Gemmera's coat of arms. All her life Ważka believed that the mark is just an ugly deformation after the Changes she did undergo during her training. Instead, it's a clue Dairida left their children - she tattooed on newborn's skin a map of one of the provinces of the country, with a single dot marking a spot there.
It's deep in the mountains where people rarely wander, where the party finds a cave occupied by the same monster years ago fought Wodaryk. The monster was placed there by Ponderyk, to guar whatever is deeper in the cave. After the party kills the monster they go inside and discover the old abandoned shrine dedicated to Coram Agh Tera, The Cult of the Lionheaded Spider. Years ago the cultist convinced young and ambitious Ponderyk to join them. They promised him power and the throne, and Podaryk cut off his own tongue and offered it to the Spider, who gave him the power of manipulation. As long as the tongue is within the temple, Ponderyk can use his dark powers. Cultists planned to use the prince and blackmail him, but Ponderyk was smarter - he killed all of them but Strażniczka Bramy [Keeper of the Gate]. The old woman was imprisoned in her temple where for years she performed rituals preventing the Spider God from leaving the mountains.
Sixteen years ago, just a few days before Ponderyk killed Wodaryk, the priestess used her powers to give Wodaryk a dream - revealing to him the location of her cave as well as warn against the brother. Wodaryk went to investigate this, fought the monster, was saved by the witcher, and wounded returned to his castle where he was killed by Ponderyk. Now knowing everything the Prince can destroy Ponderyk's tongue, leaving him mute, decide what to do with the traitor, and take back his throne.
The story seemingly has seemingly a happy ending, but as it turns out while Ponderyk was a greedy dictator, his dark powers made him also a remarkable diplomat. It was he who negotiated Gemmera's independence from Nilfgaardian Empire... And soon after his dethronement, Nilfgaard once again begins to pose a threat to Gemmera.

since you dont know many german tales, how about the original story of rapunzel?
~~
There were once a man and a woman who had long in vain wished for a child. At length the woman hoped that God was about to grant her desire. These people had a little window at the back of their house from which a splendid garden could be seen, which was full of the most beautiful flowers and herbs. It was, however, surrounded by a high wall, and no one dared to go into it because it belonged to an enchantress, who had great power and was dreaded by all the world.
One day the woman was standing by this window and looking down into the garden, when she saw a bed which was planted with the most beautiful rampion - Rapunzel, and it looked so fresh and green that she longed for it, and had the greatest desire to eat some. This desire increased every day, and as she knew that she could not get any of it, she quite pined away, and began to look pale and miserable.
Then her husband was alarmed, and asked, "What ails you, dear wife?"
"Ah," she replied, "if I can't eat some of the rampion, which is in the garden behind our house, I shall die."
The man, who loved her, thought, sooner than let your wife die, bring her some of the rampion yourself, let it cost what it will. At twilight, he clambered down over the wall into the garden of the enchantress, hastily clutched a handful of rampion, and took it to his wife. She at once made herself a salad of it, and ate it greedily. It tasted so good to her - so very good, that the next day she longed for it three times as much as before. If he was to have any rest, her husband must once more descend into the garden. In the gloom of evening, therefore, he let himself down again. But when he had clambered down the wall he was terribly afraid, for he saw the enchantress standing before him.
"How can you dare," said she with angry look, "descend into my garden and steal my rampion like a thief? You shall suffer for it."
"Ah," answered he, "let mercy take the place of justice, I only made up my mind to do it out of necessity. My wife saw your rampion from the window, and felt such a longing for it that she would have died if she had not got some to eat."
Then the enchantress allowed her anger to be softened, and said to him, "If the case be as you say, I will allow you to take away with you as much rampion as you will, only I make one condition, you must give me the child which your wife will bring into the world. It shall be well treated, and I will care for it like a mother."
The man in his terror consented to everything, and when the woman was brought to bed, the enchantress appeared at once, gave the child the name of Rapunzel, and took it away with her.
Rapunzel grew into the most beautiful child under the sun. When she was twelve years old, the enchantress shut her into a tower, which lay in a forest, and had neither stairs nor door, but quite at the top was a little window. When the enchantress wanted to go in, she placed herself beneath it and cried,
"Rapunzel, Rapunzel, Let down your hair!"
Rapunzel had magnificent long hair, fine as spun gold, and when she heard the voice of the enchantress she unfastened her braided tresses, wound them round one of the hooks of the window above, and then the hair fell twenty ells down, and the enchantress climbed up by it.
After a year or two, it came to pass that the king's son rode through the forest and passed by the tower. Then he heard a song, which was so charming that he stood still and listened. This was Rapunzel, who in her solitude passed her time in letting her sweet voice resound. The king's son wanted to climb up to her, and looked for the door of the tower, but none was to be found. He rode home, but the singing had so deeply touched his heart, that every day he went out into the forest and listened to it. Once when he was thus standing behind a tree, he saw that an enchantress came there, and he heard how she cried,
"Rapunzel, Rapunzel, Let down your hair!"
Then Rapunzel let down the braids of her hair, and the enchantress climbed up to her. "If that is the ladder by which one mounts, I too will try my fortune," said he, and the next day when it began to grow dark, he went to the tower and cried,
"Rapunzel, Rapunzel, Let down your hair!"
Immediately the hair fell down and the king's son climbed up. At first Rapunzel was terribly frightened when a man, such as her eyes had never yet beheld, came to her. But the king's son began to talk to her quite like a friend, and told her that his heart had been so stirred that it had let him have no rest, and he had been forced to see her. Then Rapunzel lost her fear, and when he asked her if she would take him for her husband, and she saw that he was young and handsome, she thought, he will love me more than old dame gothel does. And she said yes, and laid her hand in his.
She said, "I will willingly go away with you, but I do not know how to get down. Bring with you a skein of silk every time that you come, and I will weave a ladder with it, and when that is ready I will descend, and you will take me on your horse."
They agreed that until that time he should come to her every evening, for the old woman came by day.
The enchantress remarked nothing of this, until once Rapunzel said to her, "Tell me, Dame Gothel, how it happens that you are so much heavier for me to draw up than the young king's son - he is with me in a moment."
"Ah! You wicked child," cried the enchantress. "What do I hear you say. I thought I had separated you from all the world, and yet you have deceived me."
In her anger she clutched Rapunzel's beautiful tresses, wrapped them twice round her left hand, seized a pair of scissors with the right, and snip, snap, they were cut off, and the lovely braids lay on the ground. And she was so pitiless that she took poor Rapunzel into a desert where she had to live in great grief and misery.
On the same day that she cast out Rapunzel, however, the enchantress fastened the braids of hair, which she had cut off, to the hook of the window, and when the king's son came and cried,
"Rapunzel, Rapunzel, Let down your hair!"
she let the hair down. The king's son ascended, but instead of finding his dearest Rapunzel, he found the enchantress, who gazed at him with wicked and venomous looks.
"Aha," she cried mockingly, "you would fetch your dearest, but the beautiful bird sits no longer singing in the nest. The cat has got it, and will scratch out your eyes as well. Rapunzel is lost to you. You will never see her again."
The king's son was beside himself with pain, and in his despair he leapt down from the tower. He escaped with his life, but the thorns into which he fell pierced his eyes. Then he wandered quite blind about the forest, ate nothing but roots and berries, and did naught but lament and weep over the loss of his dearest wife.
Thus he roamed about in misery for some years, and at length came to the desert where Rapunzel, with the twins to which she had given birth, a boy and a girl, lived in wretchedness. He heard a voice, and it seemed so familiar to him that he went towards it, and when he approached, Rapunzel knew him and fell on his neck and wept. Two of her tears wetted his eyes and they grew clear again, and he could see with them as before. He led her to his kingdom where he was joyfully received, and they lived for a long time afterwards, happy and contented.
~~
so i have been taught a version that is a little easier on children, where rapunzel was basically safed by her prince and they lived happily ever after. and no birthing twins either. BUT this version has been the one read to children for decades since it was written.
i liked the disney movie, but as usual it glossed over the original everywhere. thats fine tho, it was fiction in the first place and an accurate verion might be more of a thriller, or horror movie... or just a very sad one. it just saddens me sometimes when so much detail is lost. just like malificent wasnt called by her original german name (malefiz) in the german dub of her movie. that irked me greatly.
(also if this is starting to get annoying, tell me!! i just really enjoy revisiting fairytales and telling people about them uwu)
Its not annoying at all. Again, i always appreciate this so much. Plus you're sharing part of your culture, for folklore and fairytales, even those with more wider known adaptations, are still important to people's culture. So even if you tell me a Grimm or something that i do know, i still appreciate it so much.
I know a lot of fairytales have gentler adaptations for the kiddos but ive never seen the traditional one for rapunzel so thank you sm!

WINTERNIGHT - Chapter 11 - Something New
Tumblr media
Warnings: Fighting, arguing, vampires, Lycans, ETC
Pairings: Bucky Barnes X Vampire Reader ; Selene X Michael
(A/N) wow this has been a long time coming. Things have been pretty hectic and crazy this past year. Not only was i pregnant but i was also hospitalized for pancreatitis. between comstant hospital visits and morning sickness i didn’t have that much inspiration for energy to write. i’d open a word document and just stare at it which only resulted in overwhelming myself and fucking with my depression. Now that I’ve given birth to a beautiful baby boy and i’ve had some epiphanies and eye openers i feel like i can jump back into this crazy world and finally start to finish some of the open ended stories i have. wish me luck guys!!
If you want the rest of the parts they are located in my Master-list since Tumblr hates Links now.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I followed Kraven to Lucian’s den and I wasn’t surprised. What did surprise me was that there was a familiar scent on the air. Was Bucky here? I follow the scent but get distracted when I spot Lucian coming my way. I feel myself frozen in place as he neared me. Some of the Lycans I didn’t know started to growl and run toward me but I just stayed still. Before they reach me, Lucian yells out stopping them in their tracks. He slowly walks towards me and I feel my heart clench. The only father figure I had was walking towards me and I couldn’t help myself.
“I wasn’t expecting you, but given your Lycan is here-” Lucian starts.
“I followed Kraven.” I say interrupting him.
“You didn’t follow your wolf?” He asks and I shake my head. “That might disappoint him.”
“He’s a big boy, he’ll get over it.” I say my brow furrowing.
“Your face doesn’t match your words.” He replies cocking an eyebrow at me.
“I-” I start walking toward him a pained expression filing my face before I instantly throw myself in his arms and bury my face in his chest. “I’m sorry,”
“I told you long ago, we wouldn’t hold a grudge against you.” He reminds me as he gently rubs circles on my back.
“Aren’t you mad that I decided to stay with the Vampires?” I ask my eyes not meeting his.
“I am rather peeved, but I am sure you have your reasons.”
“I couldn’t leave her there alone. I owed it to her to stay.”
“Ah yes, her name is Selene, right?” He asks and I nod. “Seems she’s someone special indeed.”
“Viktor’s awake, I have no place there now.” I say making him tense slightly his hands gripping tightly to me. “And I feel I am unwelcome here as well.”
“You are always welcome here child.” He says as he lifts my chin to look up at him. “Now I don’t mean to be rude but like you said, Kraven is here.”
“I’m coming with you.”
“I would have settled for nothing less; as I expect you wouldn’t have taken no for an answer.” He says and I nod. “Then shall we?” He asks before he gently pats my shoulder and walks past me. As his wolves pass me they let out low growls of warning that I gladly return as I bare my teeth. I was on their turf, Lucian’s blessing or not; I was an unwanted guest. I catch another whiff of Bucky’s scent and my heart pulls towards him. I shake my head as I pull myself in the other direction and follow Lucian.
“I thought we had a deal.” Kraven says and I grit my teeth as I stand silently behind one of the wolves and listen in to his and Lucian’s conversation.
“Patience… Kraven.” Lucian replies distaste filling his voice. “These are matters to be discussed in private.” Kraven nods and Lucian adds, “Please, escort our guest’s downstairs.” I hear the cocking of a shotgun only seconds before the vampires walk past me and the rest of the Lycans leave with them leaving only myself, Lucian, and Kraven. When he spots me, his eyes narrow angrily as he says, “What are you doing here?”
“She is not your concern.” Lucian warns.
“I thought this was to be private.” Kraven retorts.
“Would you like to try to make her leave?” Lucian asks his eyes narrowing at Kraven who thinks for a moment before shaking his head. “Very well, the council has been destroyed. Soon, you will have it all.” Lucian says and I narrow my eyes at him in anger. “Both great covens, and an iron-clad peace treaty with the Lycans.” So, this was what Kraven wanted, everything. I grind my teeth as I know deep down what Lucian offered would never be enough to Kraven. He would always want more.  “Who I trust will not be forgotten when the spoils are tabulated.”
“I’m sure she’s told you, but how do you expect me to assume control now that Viktor’s been awakened? There’s no defeating him, he grows stronger as we speak.”
“And that is precisely why I need Michael.” Lucian says as he walks past Kraven to a table behind him. “If Viktor were so easy to dispatch, you’d have done it yourself, centuries ago.” Before Kraven has the chance to argue gunshots are heard in the distance and my heart drops.
“It’s Selene,” I say as I look at Lucian my eyes pleading with him in a silent protest.
Suddenly a glass window shatters behind Kraven’s head and a bell is sounded making me reach into my coat to pull out my guns. “It’s Viktor,” Kraven adds and I roll my eyes.
“Yes, and if you had done your job he’d still be in hibernation.” Lucian says before he moves to look through a hole in the wall. I narrow my eyes but follow his gaze to see Michael chained to a surgical table. Then seconds later I see a familiar metal arm and my heart jumps in my chest. “Where the hell is Raze?” Lucian asks before moving over to a table to grab some weapons.
“Is there another way out?” Kraven asks panic filling his voice.
“I guess it never occurred to you that you might actually have to bleed to pull off this little coup.” Lucian loads his gun with new UV bullets and as he moves toward the door adds, “Don’t even think about leaving.” I turn back just in time to see Kraven pull a gun out from behind his back. My body moves on its own as I rush forward right as Kraven pulls the trigger shooting me in the chest and stomach with the new silver nitrate rounds.  I let out a wince of pain as I look down to see the silver pouring out of the bullet holes.
I hear Lucian yell something out but my mind doesn’t register until I look up to see his rage filled eyes looking down at me. It surprisingly hurt. It wasn’t the first time I had been shot before, but it was the first time I stepped in front a bullet to save someone. “(Name), look at me.” Lucian says and I growl at him as I say, “That’s not my name anymore.”
“Now’s not the time to argue.” He argues and I chuckle slightly as I wince at the pain. “You need to feed.”
“Aha, do you see a blood bank anywhere?” I ask trying to lighten the mood. I look around to notice that Kraven had made his escape and my blood starts to boil. “I’m going to kill him.”
“Get in line (Name),” Lucian adds as a familiar scent fills the room. I follow it to see a rage filled Bucky walking over to us.
“What happened to her?” Bucky asks his eyes filled with fire as he kneels next to us.
“Kraven shot me, it’s no big deal, silver won’t hurt me.” I say making him grit his teeth.
“No but the bullet’s will.” Bucky adds and I narrow my eyes at him.
“I’m not a child James.”
“I know,” Bucky adds reaching out to gently move a strand of hair from my face. “What does she need?” He asks Lucian his eyes never leaving mine.
“She needs to feed.”
“Can she drink my blood?”
“What? NO!” I cry out fear filling my voice. “If I bite you, you will die.”
“I’m not saying to bite me, I can cut myself just enough to give you what you need.”
“NO!” I say as I force myself into a sitting position.
“Why not?” Bucky asks anger filling his voice.
“I’ve never drank from someone before.” I say my eyes looking away from him. “Given my ability, I don’t think I could stop once I started. I would drink you dry. Plus, your blood isn’t exactly normal anymore.”
“Will Lycan blood hurt her?”
“No,” Lucian says causing my attention to snap to him in confusion.
“What? Of course, it will, it could kill me.” I add through the confusion.
“It will not,” Lucian says a memory crossing his eyes. “You’ve tasted it before, long ago.”
“You… you fed me Lycan blood?”
“No, your mother did.” Lucian adds, and my eyes fall to the floor. Why would she do that? “Times were tough and if she had gone after human blood the coven would have taken her.”
“But they did take her.” I add, and he nods.
“Your mother could only hold the thirst off for so long.” Lucian adds, and I nod.
“So, she can drink my blood?” Bucky asks and Lucian nods.
“Whatever you two are going to do, you need to do it now.” Lucian says as he hands me off to Bucky and walking to the door turns back to Bucky and says, “I leave her in your hands Barnes. Do not make me regret it.”
“I won’t.” Is all that is said as Lucian runs off down the hall.
“I don’t want to hurt you.” I say as I slowly look back at Bucky.
“You won’t.” He says as he leans into me and grips tightly to my back. “You got it?”
“I’m sorry,” I say as I sink my teeth into his collar making him clench tightly to me as he winces in pain. My mouth is suddenly filled with his sweet taste causing some darker part of myself to take over as I dig my teeth in deeper drawing out more blood. As I drink my mind fills with his memories. From the moment, he is born, to just seconds before I bit him. He had been through so much. His life instantly reminds me of my own and tears fill my eyes. I feel him tap my shoulder and I clench my fists tightly as I force myself to pull away from him.
I hear footsteps and I turn right as a gunshot goes off near us making my heart sink. “Lucian!” I yell out pushing myself to my feet and racing out the door only to see Lucian fall to the ground the silver nitrate filling his body. I look for the gunman but see no one. Rage fills my body as I walk back into the room where Bucky sat trying to regain his strength and I grab my guns. Bucky instantly grabs my wrist holding me back.
“Let me go, I have to avenge him.” I say anger filling my body.
“You’re not an avenger (Name),” He says, and I instantly jerk my wrist out of his grasp as I yell, “DON’T CALL ME THAT!”
“It’s your name! You have to own it!”
“I have no right too.” I say tears threatening to fall again. “I don’t know what will happen to you now that I’ve bitten you, but you need to stay near Michael. If possible, you must get him out of here. If I know Viktor like I do he will not stop until yours and Michael’s heads are on a platter.” He gulps down a breath of air as he pushes himself to his feet and walks over to me. “Please stay alive James,” I add as I reach up and pulling the back of his neck down place a kiss on his lips.
Then without a chance for him to argue I race off toward the gunfire. If I got to Selene, I could be able to get her on my side. I just had to get to her. I take a deep breath as I try to find her scent. I hear Raze’s angry howl and I knew he was finding his own sense of revenge for Lucian. I close my eyes and tilt my head as I search her out. It felt like my mind was moving everywhere until I found her.
I smile as I instantly run off towards her location. It takes me no time at all to make it to her. When I reach her, she swings towards me about to fire her weapon but stops at the sight of me. “What are you doing here?” She asks her eyes piercing mine.
“I followed Kraven,” I answer honestly making her nod. “Selene, you know you cannot kill Michael.” I say making her narrow her eyes at me.
“I do not know that; I only know that Viktor wants him dead.”
“All the more reason to keep him alive. I know where he is, if I take you to him, you must promise me you will not hurt him; him or James.”
“Your Lycan is here?!” She asks anger filling her voice as her eyes narrow at me.
“He is,” I reply before taking a deep breath and continuing, “I will not let anyone harm him.”
“If Viktor sees him, he will kill him.” Selene states.
“Not if I have anything to say about it.” I reply my eyes turning a solid white in anger. “Promise me Selene; I would hate to have to hurt you.”
“Just take me to him first. Then I will decide what to do.” Selene says, and I sense the concern in her voice. I say nothing but nod in agreement and lead her toward them. Before reaching them, Selene spots a Lycan and goes to shoot it but I stop her. Shaking my head at her the Lycan runs past us towards the fray not even glancing back towards us. She eyes me curiously before stepping into the room that held Michael and Bucky. Bucky instantly frees Michael as Selene rushes over to him and says, “I have to get you out of here. Viktor’s coming, and he won’t stop until every Lycan is dead.”
“They’ll kill you too, just for helping me.” Michael adds voicing the severity of our crimes.
“I know,” Selene adds, and I sense her emotions before they even show on her face.
“I know what started the war,” Michael starts, and I feel myself being pulled away by Bucky whose temperature rose about ten degrees.
“Are you alright?” I ask as his grip tightens on my arm.
“It hurts.” Bucky says, and my eyes widen. He was turning.
“I have to get you out of here.” I add worry filling my body.
“We can’t leave them.” Bucky interjects causing me to roll my eyes.
“We won’t, but you’re my main concern right now. We don’t know if you’re dying or if you’re going to become something entirely different, something new.”
“We have to go.” Selene insists and I grip tightly to Bucky’s hand as I turn toward her and say, “You have to go without us.”
“I’m not leaving you here.” Selene says worry filling her voice.
“I can’t leave him, and he won’t make it anywhere safe in time. Go, I’ll be fine here.” I implore giving her a reluctant smile.
“Find me when you’re out.” She concedes a concerned look on her face.
“I will.” I reply as she reluctantly turns and leaves. When she and Michael are gone, I turn back to Bucky right as he falls to his knees and digs his hands into the dirt as his ribs break and reset themselves. I wince in sympathy as I reach out to hold his head to my chest. He tries to push me away, but I hold tight.
“I don’t want to hurt you.” He cries out in a mixture of pain and anger.
“You won’t, I’m here for you James. I’m not leaving you behind.” I say as I grip tighter to him.
Bucky’s body starts to morph in my hands turning him into a new species entirely. He grew in height as well as size. His hair was now longer reaching down to his middle in a cascade of deep chocolate. However, his metal arm remained the same shimmery metal. If you had lost a limb before you were turned that limb never grew back. I marveled at how he looked super human. His eyes look up into mine and I feel my heart start to race at the familiar pale white. “How bad is it?” He asks through ragged breaths and I stare at him in awe.
“You look beautiful.” I say honestly making him chuckle.
“Not something you wanna tell a guy.” Bucky adds as he stands up to his full seven-foot hybrid height. I am about to say something when the sound of a gunshot pulls my attention away from him and toward the direction Selene and Michael had gone. Without thinking I rush after the sound just in time to see Lucian lying inches away from Selene and Michael, who had been shot with a silver nitrate bullet. I rush to Lucian’s side as I yell out, “Uncle!”
“She needs to bite him.” Lucian says his eyes never looking away from Selene and Michael until Bucky walks in behind me in all his hybrid glory. “You bit him.”
“I didn’t want too, but I was given little choice.” I say not looking away from my uncle. He smiles halfheartedly as he reaches up to gently cup my cheek.
“Your mother would have been proud of you.” He says, and I bite my lip as I try not to cry.
“Take my blood Uncle, it can help you.” I say as I pull my wrist up to my lips to bite it only to have him grab it and pull it away from my mouth.
“No (Name), I’ve lived without Sonja for long enough. I wish to be with my love.”
“But what about me? What do I do?” I ask trying my hardest not to cry.
“You have your Lycan,” Lucian says looking past me to where Bucky stood looking down at us. “Protect her with your life.”
“I will,” Bucky replies, and I bury my face into my uncle’s chest.
“Don’t leave me, please.” I beg gripping tightly to him.
“Don’t cry little one,” Is all he says before I feel the life slip from his body causing the tears to pour from my eyes. I stay there until I hear a loud grunt and look up to see Viktor grab Selene and ripping her away from Michael severing her bite. Bucky instantly moves to stand protectively in front of both Selene and I as Viktor picks Michael up and tosses him through the cement wall into the next room. He then turns his attention back to Bucky as a rage filled expression fills his eyes. Sensing his motives, I gently give Lucian’s hand one last grip before I stand up and place myself between Bucky and Viktor.
“What have you done?!” Viktor yells out accusingly at me and I bare my teeth at him. “You dare bare your half breed fangs at me?”
“I will not let you hurt anyone else I care about.” I warn my eyes turning pale white.
“You are not strong enough to kill me.” Viktor warns making me clench my fists.
“I don’t have to be strong enough to kill you,” I say as Michael appears behind him fully morphed into his own version of the hybrid. “I just have to be strong enough to protect those I care about.” Then without a second thought Michael grabs Viktor and tosses him into the other room before he follows him. I instantly rush over to Selene and reaching out quickly help her to her feet.
“He killed them,” Selene says pain filling her eyes. “Viktor killed them all.”
“I am sorry; but there is nothing we can do for the dead. The living however,” I pause as Bucky rushes into the room where Michael and Viktor had gone. “The living, need our help.”
Sapphire Flames Snippets
Little Snippet:
The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences occupied a nine-story building on Old Spanish Trail. Its blocky lines, rectangular windows, and orange brick practically screamed that it housed some sort of government agency.
I maneuvered our Honda Element into the parking lot. It used to be our surveillance vehicle, but last year Grandma Frida decided to rebuild it from wheels up.  Now the Element sported a new engine, a reinforced suspension, and custom dampers for enhanced shock absorption. The windows were bulletproof, and the new glass had both the safety glazing and a polycarbonate layer on the inside, so if someone did shoot at us, the windows would crack but hold together. And most importantly, the Element was now equipped with B5 level armor, which meant it would stop most handguns and shotgun blasts.  It could have been armored enough to withstand a sniper shot; however, Grandma Frida reasoned that our best chance of survival was getting away fast, and armor was heavy, so she stopped at B5 and added a reinforced floor and run-flat tires.
Unfortunately, even Grandma Frida had her limits, and steering was a bit sluggish.  I was used to it by now and I aimed for a parking spot in the middle row.
“So, what’s with you and Alessandro Sagredo?”  Runa asked.
The steering was sluggish, but the brakes worked perfectly.  I jerked forward, and my seat belt slammed me back.
“Nothing.”
“Aha.”  Runa pulled on her own seat belt.  “That’s why we screeched to a stop halfway into the parking space?”
“My foot slipped.”  I gently eased forward and brought the Element to a smooth stop.
Last night, after Bern carried Rutger into the guest bedroom and Runa settled in on inflatable mattress next to him, I went back to my office, rescued Alessandro’s picture from my desk drawer, and brought it upstairs to my bedroom. He looked so carefree, caught in a magic moment somewhere sunny and warm.  When I looked at the picture, a disquieting, unpleasant feeling squeezed my chest, not pain exactly, but a kind of discomfort. I stood in my bedroom and wished with everything I had that I was there, in the sun, with a backdrop of green mountains and Alessandro and I were going somewhere.  Together.
It was stupid, and childish, and it would never be.  I hid it all inside, put the picture on my nightstand, and went to bed.
“So, you’re just going to go with ‘nothing?’” Runa asked.
“That’s right.”
“Your sister said you met during your trials.”
Sistercide was not a word, but it would be after today. “Yes.”
“Yes what?  Is there a story behind that?”
No. He didn’t follow me on Instagram, and he didn’t take my breath away during the trials.  And he definitely didn’t show up under my window after trying to convince me to go for a drive.
 “We met during the trials, and my sisters haven’t stopped trolling me about it for the last three years.  There is absolutely nothing between me and Alessandro Sagredo.”
Strictly speaking, there was 5,561 miles between our warehouse and the Sagredo estate near Venice, Italy.  A commercial flight with one stop could get me to Venice in thirteen hours.
“Your cheeks are turning pink,” Runa said.  “Are you imagining there being nothing between you and Alessandro?”
On Rants, Well Deserved Nature Of:
As I’ve pointed out four times now, this entire incident has been recorded by security cameras. The footage will show that Ms. Etterson and I were attacked without provocation and we defended ourselves as is our right under Article 3 paragraph 1 through 4 of the House Protection Act.”
“Is that so?” Sgt. Munoz’s eyebrows crept up a quarter of an inch.
“You have no cause to detain either me or Runa Etterson.  We have cooperated, and we have given our statements.”
“Ms. Baylor.”  He frowned.  “You wouldn’t happen to have an older sister, would you?”
That was just too much. “When Nevada encountered you, she was under a great deal of stress trying to keep us alive and save Houston.  She didn’t have a chance to note that every time there was an incident requiring a law enforcement response, you mysteriously appeared on the scene.  But I did.”
He watched me, impassive.   I kept going.
“You are attached to the House Response Unit of Houston PD, tasked specifically with handling incidents involving Houses.  Every member of this unit is assigned a number of families, in which he becomes expert. So, you know perfectly well that I have an older sister and that she is currently out of the country.  You know the names of every person in our family, their birth dates, and their magic. You probably know the exact nature of my powers, despite the fact that my records are sealed.  You are here because my last name popped up in your system. So please don’t insult my intelligence.”
When English Language Is Just Not Enough:
Warning: hilariously odd bad language ahead. Poor Catalina.
Bug served as Rogan’s surveillance specialist. Magically altered, he processed visual information at an astonishing rate. If anybody could find [Redacted], Bug could. He was also fanatically loyal to Rogan.
The moment we involved Bug, Rogan would know every detail of what we asked and why. Then Nevada would know, and, considering the usual colorful way Bug made his reports, there was a strong possibility that she would freak out. Bug found the vast array of curses available to an average English speaker completely inadequate and used every opportunity to add his own, which often amounted to a random collection of expletives that left you befuddled. I could just imagine the way that report would go.
“Hey, so you’ll never believe this dick fart thing: they want me to find [Redacted]. Isn’t that just pork balls? The gnome molester apparently stabbed somebody. Whore dimwit shit brain dungarees!”
A Simple Menu:
Since it was my turn to cook breakfast anyway, I headed to the kitchen.  Cooking was basically my and Mom’s job.  When Nevada lived with us, she was too busy keeping us fed and clothed. Bern and Leon usually made meat, preferably, steak, and they served it charred on top and raw in the middle. Grandma Frida came from the generation when things weren’t cooked unless they were slightly burned, and my younger sister, who was actually a decent cook, when she had to be, couldn’t be trusted to stay in the kitchen for the duration of the cooking process.  She’d start something and then end up outside texting to her friends or in the media room laughing at some show, while we raced to save the meal.
I decided on a simple menu. I put two packs of bacon into two baking pans and popped them in the oven, mixed the batter for the blueberry pancakes, and called Nevada while chopping mushrooms for the egg, mushroom, and cheese scramble.
Just You Wait:
My cell rang. An unlisted number. Oh good. Ten to one, somebody wanted to sell me super-special medical insurance or inform me that the IRS was about to arrest me unless I dropped everything and bought an armful of gift cards at Wal-Mart.
I answered it. “What is it?”
“You’re tracking me,” Alessandro said.
Runa’s eyes went big.
“I am not tracking you,” I told him. Technically, it wasn’t even a lie.
“You’re having me tracked. I understand that I’m irresistible. It’s a cross I bear. But do try to have some self-control, Catalina. I’m embarrassed for you.”
He… Argh. “As I recall, I never had a problem resisting you.”
“I thought we agreed that you would drop this.”
“I didn’t agree to anything.”
“Catalina, listen to me. This is serious, the people involved are dangerous, and your well-being is important to me.”
Since when? “Why don’t you tell me more about it? Maybe if I fully understand the danger, I’ll stay out of it.”
“No, you won’t. You have no sense.”
“I have all kinds of sense.”
“This is your last warning, Catalina.”
“Or what?”
“Trust me, you don’t want to find out.”
He hung up.
“I have all kinds of sense?” Runa quoted.
“I was too mad to think of a snappy comeback.”
I glared at the phone. Insufferable ass. When I got my hands on him, I would pry his mind open like a tin can.  And then I would make him do a little dance, record it, and play it for him on a loop after I drained my magic off. Irresistible. I’ll show you irresistible. Just you wait.
A Pithivier:
Steps sounded behind me. I turned. Runa caught up with us. “Matilda said you would be out here. That child is odd.”
More like unsettling, until you got to know her. “She’s an animal mage. They are unique. Did something bad happen?”
“You mean in addition to everything else?  No.”
We both watched Shadow sniffing at cracks in the asphalt.
 “Whatever is cooking in the kitchen smells amazing.  What are we having?”
“Lemon roasted chicken with rosemary baked potatoes, chive butter, kale and brussels sprout salad with tahini maple dressing, and an apple pithivier.”
Runa gave me a long look.
“I cook when I’m stressed out. It sounds more complicated than it is. In reality, it’s mostly season things, dump them in a baking pan, and stick them in the oven.”
“What’s a P.T.V.A.?”
“It’s a French pie-cake made with puff pastry.  The traditional version uses rum and almonds, but nobody likes rum, so I make mine with apples.”
