6. What do you like about your least favourite season?

Tbh I'm not sure what my absolute least favorites season is. I'm not a fan of Dabbernatural in general. That said, on rewatches it's always season 9 that I tend to stall out on. Even if it's not objectively the worst, I find it hardest to watch for a variety of reasons. So I'll go with season 9. I like Abaddon! She was a really cool antagonist!

7. What do you dislike about your favourite season?

My favorite is season 2, because it is uniformly excellent and also nostalgia :) It's actually really hard to think of something I don't like... Okay, Sam's thing with Madison the werewolf in Heart is just so awkward and forced and melodramatic, imo! When she folds her underwear in front of him? Who DOES that? 😂

Ok but slightly more serious answer--I guess they could have gotten more mileage out of the special children. Developed more of them as side characters, had a three-part finale instead of two-part :)

28. Cruelest things TFW has done to each other?

Oh man this one is so hard, and hard to talk about.

I guess I’ll start with Castiel. I think him taking down Sam’s wall was very shitty! That’s probably actually the cruelest things he’s done to /both/ of them, considering how much Dean cares about Sam, and that the aftermath had terrible repercussions for them both.

Cruelest thing Dean has done to Cass—I honestly don’t know, I don’t really keep track. But he’s pretty rude to him in general? Like when he kicks Cass out of the bunker in s9 because of Gadreel, he doesn’t even try to soften the blow. I know he’s not happy about it, but he could have tried to help him more, I guess.

Cruelest thing Sam has done to Cass—has Sam ever been mean to Cass? I can’t remember lol. So okay, sort of tongue-in-cheek answer: being Dean’s no.1 and relegating Cass to eternal third wheel status. 🙃

For Dean and Sam, I’m excluding Soulless and Demon states.

Cruelest thing Dean has ever done to Sam: I have two answers, can’t decide which is worse. Obviously, tricking Sam into accepting Gadreel is one. I have such complex feelings about that whole situation. While I’m not unsympathetic to Dean’s (admittedly impaired) reasoning in his moment of desperation, it’s probably the worst thing he’s done in terms of repercussions. Sam had to go through the terrifying experience of possession again, and being used to kill Kevin was especially traumatic. (I have so many more thoughts about this arc but this is not the place… basically I just wish the show let them have the big blow up confrontation they needed and then actually talk about it and have Dean apologize.)

The other is MOC Dean telling Sam he had to die and nearly killing him. I don’t hold MOC Dean’s actions against him because he was clearly under the corrupting influence of an external power—I read a good meta recently likening the MOC to brain damage that would impair a person’s capacity for empathy, and I think that’s accurate. In this case, there was hardly anything separating Dean from demon-hood, so maybe it’s not fair to count this. But I’m thinking of the cruelty of Sam having to go through that. Sam, who so badly needs his big brother’s approval, needs to hear that he thinks Sam is good. Dean, who has gone to such lengths to keep Sam alive this long, going back on this core tenet of their relationship and Sam’s very identity. After Sam got a second chance at life after the Cage, he has to hear his big brother tell him he needs to die again for the good of the universe, when all he’s been trying to do is save Dean. :C

Cruelest thing Sam has done to Dean: Two answers, again. The first relates to the post-Purgatory fallout. It’s /not/ ‘he didn’t look for Dean!’ because I get that he was lost and in mourning. But it’s Sam’s reaction to Dean’s hurt that I take issue with. Now, don’t get me wrong: mostly, I blame the writers. It’s just not a very well-handled arc which is why it seems OOC. But Sam doesn’t really acknowledge Dean’s feelings, which imo stem from a misunderstanding, a lack of communication on Sam’s end. In a way, Sam not standing up for himself is the most hurtful thing he could do to Dean here. He doesn’t seem to care to explain his mourning process or mental state—he just leaves it at “but we promised!” which honestly makes it sound like he didn’t miss Dean, didn’t want to bring him back, was perfectly happy with his woman and his dog. He lets Dean believe that he really doesn’t care as much about their bond. Which obviously isn’t the truth, but if I were Dean in this situation, I’d be shook up too.

The other one is actually sort of a similar issue, and it’s also related to Gadreel. It’s about Sam’s ‘I wouldn’t have done the same’ comment. Again, don’t get me wrong—I understand Sam perfectly here. I know why he wouldn’t do the same, and I’m not taking issue with his stance at all. I also get that he is extremely, validly pissed. But here, again, though I’m not blaming Sam, I’m thinking about how it affects Dean. It’s another part of the Gadreel fallout I really wish the writers had addressed. Because Dean needs to understand Sam’s anger, but with that comment, Sam isn’t really trying to make Dean understand anything. He’s not bothering to explain himself, and not caring that it hurts his brother (right now, can’t blame him given his anger. Down the line though, they should talk). All that Dean hears with that statement is “I wouldn’t save you”—a reiteration of the problem with communication in s8. So again, Dean is left believing that Sam really doesn’t love him as much, and it’s a terrible blow. His confidence in the one thing he cares most about is utterly shaken and it sets him on a dark path. Sam wasn’t wrong to say it, but I wish at some point he’d tried to clarify (which I think he was trying to do through his actions in s10, with his desperation to save Dean—but that still doesn’t clear up the misunderstanding! Grr writers)

Hm, interesting that Dean’s worsts are actions, and Sam’s worsts are words (or silences). Not sure what it means, take it as you will. And please don't hate me 🙃 I love both brothers so much!!

What are your thoughts on duplicates?

Yes please. Duplicates of Rowena, I am thrilled to see love for her, she deserves it. I’m down for interactions with another Rowena, plenty of ways to make that work in my book. With duplicates of other muses, I’m following some really brilliant people playing the same muses, some similar, some different. But there are so many possibilities for building plots that everything will be different and I’d love to explore that with different people too. Also, I’m open to threads with duplicates of same muses and Rowena. That said, I totally understand when people have anxiety or worries about duplicates. So if you are playing my muse and I followed and you’d rather I not, please let me know.

What’s your impression on blogs who are selective/private?

I don’t take any issue with it. I technically consider myself to be both. I know that sometimes that can read as snotty to others, sometimes people think they aren’t being given a chance at all. But I don’t think there is anything wrong with setting boundaries for yourself. I know that for me, I can’t always handle everything thrown my way at a certain point of rp. If you’ve had your blog for years, drawing the line is necessary. And the moment that you don’t enjoy something, you shouldn’t feel obligated to do it. Not everything is personal.

What do you expect from others when they want to roleplay?

Communication, ideas, and honesty. Willingness to make a starter, even if I am often down to make it maybe lol. I’m not saying people have to come with a full plot or anything. Lord knows I don’t always have a whole idea lol. But I like to write with people that can give me some ideas, even just streams of thought on the characters, and a basic starting idea. And then are able to give ideas throughout an ongoing plot as we work towards ideas we both like. And ideally the ability to just say what they are thinking ooc if they have a need that isn’t being met or a worry, etc. This doesn’t mean I require explanations for anything. Not everything will be any of my business.

What are your thoughts on people who goes all out on the aesthetic for their blogs? Do you think they’re have the right to express their creativity however they want?

I have a love hate relationship with aesthetics. I love pretty blogs. But I also struggle with vision on occasion. (I’m old okay lol) And I often have to highlight text and increase font size in my browser to read things. Hidden buttons are a pain. It’s their blog, they should do whatever they like to it. But if it’s really hard to read or find links, for me, it may be off putting enough to not bother with.

What’s the one thing you want to try the most on your blog?

I think most of all, I just want to expand relationships with other canon characters, fill out more backstory for Rowena, and write the things that I want out of fanfiction that didn’t exist when I went looking for them. Romantic connections, poly shipping, friendships, found family, more of Rowena as the Queen of Hell but still checking in on Sam, giving up her throne, living a real life, giving up immortality, various AUs, idk. There are a lot of things. I clearly can’t pick one here lmao.

Give us a headcanon about your muse that you never shared to anyone else or wanting to explore deeper.

Rowena never tried to sell Fergus for three pigs as a child. She just made him think that because she was so very frustrated with everything going on in their lives. It’s easier to let him believe what he wanted because she needed him to hate her as much as needed to hate him.

Is there someone you admire on here?

@buggeredson is amazing and I’m keeping them 100%. Mine now. Everyone who has taken the time to reach out and write with me, and everyone following back. Honestly, there are so many amazing people that I’ve met on here. Many that I haven’t gotten to write with yet and I cannot wait to do so.

OKAY SO I've just spent the best part of an hour scrolling through your blog and reading a bunch of your destiel meta and I HAD to message you... I was one of the many people who STRONGLY believed destiel had a chance of being canon after season 8 (more like season gr8 am i right), but throughout the years I slowly lost all hope. However, S14 has made me 110% invested in the show again and YOUR META IS GIVING ME HOPE FOR DESTIEL, which is TERRIFYING. Your writing is wonderful and I'm STRESSED.

Got back from Washington late last night!

Oh my gosh @alovelikecas, your message really made my day and I’m SO glad you enjoy my meta xox (even when most of my meta looks like, to me, sloppy-ass writing, haha! I’ll probably make an end-season meta post after 14x20 — if I have the time — that touches upon SPN’s current and repeating themes since Season New Beginnings S12/Dabb Era, not to mention I have, like, some more unfinished meta in my drafts >.>)

Yeah I mean, I didn’t join Destiel land until Summer 2016, and before that, I was late to the Season 11 party, so I basically had no narrative context for anything, and I’ll copy-paste what I said here:

Looking back, one significant thing I recall? S11 gave me a sense of Destiel’s true narrative validity (as not a ‘fanon’ ship but organically developed in the canon) when I perceived it as a season that was ‘missing something’. Keep in mind I had no idea about Destiel yet while watching S11 at the time.

I was literally asking myself — repeatedly — why Dean/Amara seemed to contain odd narrative holes, considering A. Dean explicitly said that the non-consensual attraction he felt for Amara was NOT love and “it scares him”, B. Amara told Dean that ‘something stops you - keeps you from having it all’, C. Djinn!Amara stated that she can: ‘feel the love [Dean] feels, except it’s cloaked in shame,’ and D. Mildred’s iconic ‘You’re pining for someone’ —> which did not logically correlate with A and C, meaning: since Dean doesn’t freely love Amara and thus isn’t possibly pining for her — with female love interests as currently non-existent (I remember crossing off the dead/gone girls on a piece of paper lol) — who the hell was he pining for, then?

Obviously, without writing long-ass paragraphs of meta about it again in this post, S11 made sense as soon as I watched it within the Destiel context (especially after I read up on some grandiose pieces of Destiel meta (@charlie-minion was the very first person who inspired me to write meta; I followed her once I joined the fandom Oh my god, here we go, holy crap this subtext – I’m invested in this godforsaken ship because they’re in love with each other and I’m not getting off any time soon. I’m aware that I do come off as positive (and I’m still Destiel-positive; whatever happens in 14x20 this week may or may not change that), but I hope you don’t mind if I use your lovely ask as an additional opportunity to clarify my meta standpoint: no one’s saying Destiel WILL become text.

The general Destiel meta community (all subfactions: Destiel-positive, -negative, -neutral, and in-between) is not the Most Holy Canon Word, and we aren’t SPN writers, and again, we can’t actually speak to the veracity of Destiel as guaranteed-gonna-go-textual, but we — a diverse pool of critical thinkers from all walks of life: particularly those who have some degree of experience in literary academia/English literature studies (fun fact: I was actually pursuing a Minor’s in English until I changed my mind - my first love’s Health Science/Biology, which I stuck with, but here I am doing lit-crit analysis on the side *wink*) — can speak to the veracity of Destiel as a real, palpable, and ever-substantial long-running romance narrative aka the love story between Dean and Cas IS THERE. I see it. We all see it. We didn’t pluck it out of the random ether one day. It naturally evolved across the show’s overarching narrative like some vast spiderweb, linked together by numerous character arc amalgamations of Dean Winchester and Castiel as separate individuals who were then brought together — who brought themselves together, by the sheer force of free will and choice — and are now inherent parts of the other’s story (and respective character progression).

I say this too many times to count: the entire point of writing meta? Personally, it enables me to appreciate the literary gorgeousness of Dean and Cas’ relationship as, first and foremost, a tentative alliance offset by the very moment Cas raised Dean from perdition (it’s a poetic beginning). Their alliance then inevitably proliferated into a rocky — at times, necessarily turbulent — friendship, then a deep profound bond…one that crossed platonic boundaries since S7/8 and is, ultimately, indelibly rooted in romance. Together, Dean and Cas build up each other’s strengths, complement each other’s flaws, and narratively motivate the other to self-introspect — to become the best version of themselves that they were always meant to be: self-actualized entities who let go of their painful, horrifying, psychologically/emotionally destitute pasts.

These above reasons and more are why I think Destiel belongs right up there on the shelf of Ye Olde Classics, similar to epics by John Milton, Shakespearian tragic dramas, Homeric characteristic cruxes, and the great Odyssey journey: a legendary journey, fraught with circumstance, that finally ended with Odysseus (now an enlightened man) returning to Penelope, the love of his life.

Channeling the scope of Homer’s Odyssey, Destiel is an incredible storytelling feat of obstacles, both internal and external, romance tropes, mirroring, foreshadowing, and visual cadence/emotion, enhancing SPN’s already character-driven main plot in that Dean and Cas try to make it back to one another; like Penelope, their love holds true despite everything. If Destiel were an M/F couple, we all know their love story would be absolutely undeniable to the GA.

I do understand the bitterness S14’s fostered in some viewers, though. I do understand that Dean and Cas seem distant (and yeah, it’s a noticeable difference compared to S12/S13), but I believe the Destiel subtext is still heavy and holds steady.

Right now, at this point, there remains multiple personal issues for the characters to solve, you know? Dean and Cas aren’t talking properly; their love languages stay mistranslated, although we’re persistently shown that they still understand each other on a certain level that no one else can, and the visual narrative keeps framing them as on-the-nose solid counterparts: a domestic-spousal romantic unit independent of Sam.

They want to be there for the other. They need to quash the final remnants of their respective internal loathing (Dean’s self-worthiness, Cas’ self-expendability) before they’re able to give the other 100% of their time, efforts, attention, and love (as flawed and complicated but compellingly beautiful as it can possibly be). During the times Dean and Cas do try to talk shit out, extraneous issues continue to get between them.

As other friends/meta pals discussed with me, S14 is like S10 in that it’s confusing the cast/audiences. And exactly: S8, besides S11/S12/early S13, also belongs in the close-to-canon serious Destiel narrative transition! I can discuss the showrunning/writer problem of SBL (Singer + Bucklemming; @occamshipper hits the nail on the head) that tugs subtext – especially subtext linked to Destiel – back and forth, sometimes in the weirdest nonsensical ways, but I won’t go too far into it here. I agree, however, with the recent idea that Jensen does seem a bit confused as to where he should bring Dean emotionally this season (don’t get me wrong, I do NOT believe Dean is OOC; OOC is a completely different concept vs expected character behaviour). And if Dean’s consistently romance-coded past interactions with Cas are any indication, Jensen would also — in the same vein as all of us — want Dean and Cas to start getting their shit together. Long-running fictional characters like Dean and Cas, conceived over 10 years, are so well-written to the point where you, the author, can predict what they’ll do even if you just plop both of them inside a room and give them no direction, and I personally feel that nowadays Jensen is prevented from achieving Dean’s further internal growth/unsure how to act in the moment because of some dumb SBL scripts saying one thing while his character’s heart says another. Wank aside—

Season 15 should hopefully convey a much more logical subtextual perspective e.g. unbelievably amazingly cohesive Season Destiel 11 that aired after choppy S10. Not all hope is lost!! I also want to clarify that I personally LOVED Season 14 in general. It’s been mostly Emotion-centric constant, with Yockey, Berens, Perez, and Dabb usually making my top-rank SPN writer list.

Currently the narrative’s still allowing pretty significant (imho) wiggle room for the lovers to fracture apart and get back together, where their miscommunication comes to a dramatic head. We just saw Dean and Cas argue over Jack’s well-being in 14x18 and 19. Dean — besides putting Cas at the top of his You’re-Dead-to-Me-Because-You-Lied-but-I-Still-Love-You-Goddammit hitlist (for clear spousal-coded reasons) and taking Cas’ actions to heart (he’s the person he trusted the most who lied to him) — no doubt blamed himself for what happened, and Sam was, like I said, the mouthpiece of truth. TFW were all culpable. They all failed Jack in some way, shape, or form.

I’m not expecting anything for 14x20, but I’m nervous either way! Thanks for sticking with my long answer

How season 7 should have gone...

...if they wanted a believable Dany/Jon love story.

Even the most dedicated of JonxDany fan must admit that there love story lacks finesse at best and at worst is not a love story at all. As a storyteller and watcher of way too much television, I decided to put together this little re-write of season 7 with an actual Dany x Jon romance. Mostly to demonstrate how easy it could have been done with this was the actual aim of the writers/ producers.

Let’s jump right in.

We’ll assume everything starts off the same. So we have 7x03 with Jon arriving and being stripped of his weapons. Because Dany is careful and so even though this is an impolite way to act towards someone you’ve invited as a guest, we’ll keep it

1# First meeting.

If I was writing it the first meeting would take place pretty much anywhere but a cold and mostly empty throne room. Maybe over a shared meal, where Dany could talk like equals (which they as Queen / King are at this point). Even her small council / the war room would have made it feel better. But let’s keep the setting the same because Dany of the Many titles likes set-up like this.

So yeah. It goes pretty similarly only this time, during their first meet, Dany tells him of the Red Woman’s visit and is a tiny bit more open-minded about the prospect of the White Walkers and the speech about how Dany managed it all because she had faith in herself gets taken out.

Jon x Dany would meet and talk and rather than having Tyrion tell her to give Jon the Dragon Glass, she would come to this decision on her own and while perhaps still a little doubtful (not sure why the girl who has three dragons isn’t willing to believe in magic, but I digress). Perhaps here, she’d ask him to bend the knee again (because she sure likes doing that) Jon would point out he’s been named king and can be unnamed(very true). The only way for her to win the north is for her to show the north she’ll fight for them. That if she truly believes herself the true ruler of all of Westeros seven kingdoms, isn’t it her duty to protect all of them? She’d come away from this talk a little unsure.

Next episode we have Jon finding the cave paintings as they mine for dragon glass. Dany agrees that this is something and rather than asking to bend the knee, she suggests he show her the army of the dead. He’d asks, “How? The Wall is hundreds of miles away.” She’d smile and say something like “Do you forget so easily? I have three dragons. I can go anywhere.” But as they exit the cave, Dany learns her forces have been defeated and that the Lanisters army is on the move with food and gold. This is where she gets annoyed with Tyrion and asks Jon’s advice. This time the advice would maybe be more like, “Send your army to handle this, but let us fly north and I’ll show you the true enemy.” She’d agree, because who wouldn’t want to spend hours cuddling with Jon Snow on the back of a dragon?

So this is where things would change majorly. Dany would not take part of the field of fire, but if the desired/ needed outcome here is to have both Sam’s brother and father dead (so he can be lord at some point maybe?) then having the Dothraki kill them would be just as effective. The coolness of a dragon battle would, of course, be lost and so would one of the defining Dark!Dany (bend the knee or die is pretty dark, an executing prisoners of war is a war crime) moments but if DxJ is going to have a happy ending this would just be a good thing.

So, now we have Dany X Jon, off on an adventure together. Possibly Dany just misses her reunion with Jorah, because that would just be for the best. Or it could be included and we’d have some much clearer parallels on how both Jon and Jorah has the hots for Dany but Dany only has eyes for Jon.

Anyways, JXD are off to see the WW’s army. So many chances for bonding and bantering and maybe some talk of succession. Maybe how they both can’t see much further than the wars. Maybe they’d still stop off at the wall and meet up with the Brotherhood + hound. Maybe not.

Back south the gang left behind could still be attempting to negotiate some sort of peace treaty with the most amazing royal bitch of them all (Cersei) which would be a chance for the Jamie / Tyrion reunion as well as Gendry’s reintroduction. Maybe this meeting could be set up to discuss possible terms for the return of the remaining Sand Snakes / Theon’s sister (which show!!Dany seems to just have forgotten were her allies since it’s no longer convient for her).

In the north, perhaps Dany’s dragons aren’t faring quite as well as she’d hoped. This could serve as a sort of reason to why they suddenly are super easy to kill. Let’s say they do a fly over and Dany sees the Night’s King’s army and is actually horrified by it and the implications.

This is the second big change. Because in order for Dany X Jon to work out, they need to get on the same page about who the real enemy are. Canon!Dany refuses to do this even after seeing the White Walkers and having lost one of her dragons to them.

Let’s say now Dany or Jon together come up with the crazy idea of getting a wight back south. Maybe to get Cersei’s army to help them. Maybe to just show everyone that the danger is real. Not just Cersei (my sweet darling Queen of evil) but the whole realm (because let’s face it, at this point no one really believes in dead men walking). Jon agrees, a little reluctant because he knows that Cersei is not to be trusted. But he tells Dany she can’t come on this mission and instead the Brotherhood without Banners tags along. Before leaving, Jon and Dany would share a romantic kiss and she’d tell him he had to come back to her safe.

Wight hunt goes the same as the show and they end up with one they can bring along. Gendry runs back to Eastwatch but instead of having to send a raven across a whole bloody country, all he has to do is tell Dany and she’s off to save her new boy toy friend. When she shows up, she gets to play the hero, one of the dragons still dies, and instead of being a heroic fool Jon actually takes her hand and get on the dragon. The “awwaaws” in the audience is deafening.

Still wanting to return home, Jon asks Dany to come with him to Winterfell, because even though he’s falling for her he still wants to see Arya and Bran who he hasn’t seen in ages (and maybe first now learn have returned to WF). Maybe at this point, we could have some Jon X Rhaegal bonding? Maybe jokingly suggest Jon could almost fly home himself. She would tell him she can’t leave with the dragons for fear of being attacked by Cersei’s fleat but that she’ll let him return home if that is what he wishes. He chooses to stay with her to go to KL to try to gather more support and awareness.

Yet another quite OoC move, as I believe Cannon!Jon would have gone home. But alas, he’s in love with Dany or at least getting there (because he’s a guy and all guy must fall in love with Dany) and wants to stay with her.

We all know how the rest goes. We’d have the silly dragon pit meet, Cersei would find some other excuse to not accept the treaty other than Jon having bent the knee to Dany. We’d still get the shady exchange between Cersei and Tyrion, which we still don’t know what he promised her to get her to agree.

We can still have everyone reuniting at once (because that was such a great idea) and have Dany x Jon talk about the dying of the dragons and her not being able to have babies. Only she’s as determined as him to fight the NK even if Cersei tells them she won’t help. The stakes are lower, but the still need Cersei’s men to fight for them.

Having gotten their peace treaty, Jon and Dany decide to sail to Winterfell together.

We can have something similar to boat!sex the original with Bran letting us all know just how doomed this love story is in the voice over (only let’s assume they’d have skipped that if JonxDany were endgame. because it made so freaking creepy)!

Thada!

We’ve almost everything happening the same way they did, except for a small few changes in the character’s choices and settings. This way we get Dany actually believing in Jon, Dany X Jon spending private time together, an emotional first kiss, a rescue of lover and we totally eliminate the whole “I am your prisoner” aspect (if she offers to let him leave) and we still end up with creepy boat sex. Jamie can still betray Cersei, Sansa and Arya can still cut LF’s throat and Theon hopefully would have gone to rescue his sister without a Jon Snow pep talk.

So yeah. That’s my take on how Jonerys should have been done if they were actually being portrayed as a romance. But clearly, they weren’t, because there were so many chances to actually add it and make it more believable.

Dany sharing about her brothers should have led to a bonding conversation. The cave scene looks pretty romantic but Dany ruins it by asking him to bend the knee again. Rather than share why he got the scars, Dany figures it out by peeking at him as he sleeps and then deduces from what Davos said about taking a knife in the heart. Jon fails to tell her he saw his Ucel Benjen out there and that he saved him. No first kiss before the sex scene. No emotional commitment/ admission beforehand. No marriage proposal. The list goes on and on.

Point is,DXD and their whole team didn't just completely forget how to write romance. Which means Jonersy is not the endgame romance we’ve all been waiting for. Jon might very well be attracted to her and in the commentary and in interviews they can tell us DanyXJon are in love as much as they like. But their story, what actually happened on the show was not portrayed as a romance and without changing much else in season 7 probably quite easily could have, begging all viewers to ask, why?

I'm so tired of seeing people blame Sam for not looking for Dean when he was in purgatory but then turning around and saying Sam is stupid for having hope that Mary is alive. WELL WHICH IS IT?

I’ve gotten so many questions about this, I’m going to consolidate my answer here because I’m tired of rehashing the same arguments against s8!Sam every damn season. Not even because it was 5 seasons ago and objectively worse grievances have been perpetrated against Sam since without even an ounce of the same outcry as s8 warrants from fandom, but because it’s so obvious in canon that Sam is not at fault for thinking Dean was dead at the end of season 7. So one last time with feeling, here we go.

Even if you take out the factor of where Sam was mentally at the end of s7, it is absurd to think Sam’s a horrible brother for not thinking to look for Dean in Purgatory. Or hell, for not thinking to look for Dean at all because Sam had no reason to think Dean was alive. Sam plainly stated in 8.01 that he thought Dean was dead, which should have ended the blame game then and there, but instead it’s brought up seasons later as something Sam still needs to ~atone~ to Dean for.

Think about it logically for a minute. Chuck created Purgatory to contain the leviathan, and it later became the final resting place for monsters when they die. In 7.23, Dean stabbed Dick Roman in the neck with that bone thing, effectively killing him when he exploded into black goo. It makes sense that Dick went back to Purgatory. If the explosion killed Castiel, logistically we know now that he’d end up in the Empty, the final resting place for angels and demons (a concept which did not exist until s11). If the explosion killed Dean, it would make sense to think he was in Heaven. Unless Dean was a monster, why would Sam think he was there? Same goes for Castiel.

There is no precedence for Sam to think “Dick died in an explosion of black goo, clearly that means he took my brother and my friend with him back to Purgatory.” Killing ghosts, or werewolves, or poltergeists, or Azazel, or vampires, or hellhounds, or gods, or Lilith, or angels, or Abaddon never resulted in also sucking any persons in the vicinity at the time to whatever realm the creature got sent back to. Saying Sam should have known that Dean was alive in a different realm is like saying Sam & Dean should have known Bobby was trapped in Hell ever since he walked into the light, or that Cas was really living as a married amnesiac healer after Leviastiel in Jimmy Novak’s rapidly deteriorating vessel walked into a lake, or that Purgatory is a backdoor to Hell. These plot points aren’t known to the boys or the audience until the narrative chooses to make them clear bc lazy writing.

Even if by some chance Sam had a logical reason to think Dean was in Purgatory, he would still have had numerous ethical reasons for not pursuing that lead:

1. Sam just saw the after-effects of his friend opening up the portal to Purgatory. Aside from the whole power-hungry-wrathful-godstiel-that-broke-Sam’s-brain-as-a-diversion thing, it unleashed creatures onto the earth that Death said in 7.01 that Chuck was afraid would “chomp the entire Petri dish,” the entire reason he locked them up in the first place. These are the same monsters that already killed two of the only people in the world Sam had after his brother: Bobby and (albeit temporarily) Cas.

2. After what Sam has been put through both in-show and in-fandom for breaking the last seal of the Apocalypse by killing Lilith, something Dean & Bobby both also wanted to do and didn’t know the true effects of until Cas came clean to them at the last minute, it is frankly fucking hypocritical to claim that Sam should have thrown reason & morality to the wind and risked the fate of the world to get Dean back. Historically, things don’t go well when the brothers go to any lengths to bring each other back. Especially considering the deal Sam and Dean made to prevent them from repeating history. A deal it’s unfair to expect Sam to go back on, especially since Sam does not want Dean to go back on his word when Sam dies. [It’s not OOC for Sam not to renege on the deal either because while Sam will put himself on the line, he never intentionally puts Dean’s autonomy on the line against Dean’s wishes. Sam backed off with his zombie solution in 3.15 and he said he wouldn’t let Dean be possessed against his will in 9.13. Unselfishly respecting his brother’s wishes doesn’t mean Sam doesn’t love Dean or is a bad brother. Just the opposite, in fact.]

3. I hate thinking of it this way as much as the next person, but if Sam even had reason to think Dean was in Purgatory with all the monsters that ever died, it makes sense that eventually Dean would die there and go on to Heaven, the final resting place Joshua promised Sam and Dean in 5.16 they would end up in once they died. So it would be painful for Sam to know Dean was there, but the best solution would have been to let him be. Similar to when Sam jumped in the Cage to stop Lucifer and Michael. It was painful for Dean, but the best solution for the good of everyone was to let Sam be.

I’m going to skip right over the fact that Dean knew/repressed the fact that Cas was still alive in Purgatory when he told Sam that there was no chance he wasn’t dead (are you seeing a parallel here? because you should be) and move right on to the Mary situation. Here’s what Sam, Dean, and the audience know at the start of season 13:

1. Mary pushed Lucifer back into the rift to the alternate universe, but he dragged her with him in 12.23.

2. The brothers saw neither their mother nor Lucifer die or explode into black goo or get stabbed in the neck with a bone. They saw 2 resourceful people get sucked into an alternate universe.

3. Lucifer has had multiple opportunities to kill Dean, Sam, and Castiel since mid-season 11. But he didn’t, even when he has threatened to do so. Hell, Lucifer was even allied with Team Chuck and lived in the bunker with the brothers for a period and Sam was actively terrified of him with good reason, but Lucifer still didn’t physically try to kill any of them when he needed or wanted something from them.

4. Lucifer wants Jack and knows the brothers have him. The boys want Mary and know she was with Lucifer the last time they saw her.

To conclude, Sam and Dean have more reason to believe that Mary is alive somewhere in the alternate universe than Sam ever did to believe that Dean was alive in Purgatory. And if Dean’s mental state is an excuse for him thinking Mary was dead, please consider Sam’s as well at the end of both seasons 7 and 12. Sam’s grief and trauma is, outside of rare occasions, never as explicitly shone as Dean’s is, but that doesn’t mean it canonically doesn’t exist. Dean has always been the emotional lens of the show, but that does not make him a reliable narrator. His feelings of betrayal or hurt aren’t the word of God, and they don’t mean you can’t discern Sam’s from what we are shown in canon. I say this as someone who would give a kidney to see more of Sam’s emotional POV, you can discern where Sam is coming from in season 8, you just have to pay attention.

That’s not to say Dean deserves blame for thinking Mary is dead because 1) I’m not trying to assign blame, just defend Sam and 2) there is certainly a chance that she could have been! But I assure you that when the brothers are reunited with her, Mary (and the fandom) will not blame Dean for believing she was dead and trying to move on rather than look for her. All I’m asking is that the same courtesy be afforded to Sam post-season 7.

WHAT’S YOUR OTP FOR YOUR MUSE?: It is currently a tie between Sastiel and Casifer :3

WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO RP WHEN IT COMES TO SHIPPING?: If I’m comfortable with you, I will literally rp anything with you (even things I normally wouldn’t). As long as the mun and muse are of age, I will write anything from abusive/destructive relationships to the fluffiest fluff to have ever fluffed. I’m up for gore, violence, humiliation, abuse and any other twisted relationship you can fathom within realistic limits. At the same time, I also love rping fluff and domestic threads. The only limits I have are with certain kinks (such as watersport, scat, vomit) and anything involving minors. Another thing to keep in mind is that hate ships don’t usually work with Cas. If he hates a muse, he hates them and if they insult him, he won’t like them. Unless your muse can force him to stay (physically or through other means), he’ll likely leave assholes. HOW LARGE DOES THE AGE GAP HAVE TO BE TO MAKE IT UNCOMFORTABLE?: The muse can never be under the age of 21 for nsfw threads that aren’t smut. This is not up for debate as it is for my own comfort. Otherwise, Castiel’s vessel is currently in his 40s so I typically look to ship with characters within 10 years of that age range. I usually rp Cas in season 4 if the muse is in their 20s since big age gaps creep me out. Yes, I know he’s technically an angel and old as dirt, but I’m talking more about his vessel than anything else.

ARE YOU SELECTIVE WHEN SHIPPING?: Not gonna lie, it depends on the muse and mun. I will say that I don’t ship destiel, but would be happy to point Deans to Castiels that love this ship. I’m big on certain ships and more willing to ship right away (sastiel/casifer), while other ships usually have me needing more development and time to see if they’re possible with Cas. It’s a big help if we talk ooc a lot since I can learn better about the mun and know what they want from the ship. If it’s something I can get behind, I’ll go for it. Otherwise, they can have a friendship to start and see where it goes. I will say that if the mun just wants a big, strong angel to sleep with their muse, it’s better to look somewhere else. Cas only has sex willingly with those he knows and cares for. No amount of ‘seducing’ will change that.

HOW FAR DO STEAMY MOMENTS HAVE TO GO BEFORE THEY’RE CONSIDERED NSFW?: I usually start tagging it when one of them is blushing or one of them is doing the dirty talking. I set the bar low since I’m sometimes at school or work so I have to be careful. That being said, I never specify why a thread is labelled as nsfw so anything from sex to violence may be tagged as nsfw.

WHO ARE OTHER MUSES YOU SHIP YOUR MUSE WITH?: I will ship him with most of the guys in Supernatural, but I strongly lean towards Sam or any of the angels. While I can totally ship with females, the mun has to accept that I don’t do anything close to steamy with m/f ships as I feel awkward writing it; insisting on writing m/f smut will end badly. I am also open to ship with other characters from other fandoms if the chemistry works between our characters. OCs are ones I rarely ship with, mainly since it takes much longer to form a relationship with a complete stranger for Cas. The only exception is usually ooc friends.

DOES ONE HAVE TO ASK TO SHIP WITH YOU?: Yes, please. If your muse tries to make a move on Cas and he doesn’t know them, chances are it will not end well for your muse (unless they’re somehow stronger than Cas, but then that goes into noncon territory which should be discussed first). If he does know them, then it really depends on the character. Cas is dense when it comes to flirting so that’ll fly over his head unless the other muse is really blunt (aka ‘hey, you’re sexy and I want to fuck you’). But again, there’s no guarantee Cas will react positively to that, regardless of who your character might be. So, yes, please tell me you want to ship so we can work it out and you can tell me what you want from said ship.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU LIKE TO SHIP?: Always. I’m a slut for shipping XP That being said, while I’m always up for developing the ship and doing fluff, I’m not always up for smut since it’s not my strong point. Threads of the smut variety get dropped fairly quickly by me unfortunately.

ARE YOU MULTISHIP?: Of course :3 I also ship with multiples of the same character and even with other Castiels.

ARE YOU SHIP OBSESSED OR SHIP MORE-OR-LESS?: I mean I love shipping, but it’s not the first thing I want or ask for when I follow someone. I like for it to develop and see if there is potential in the two. If I see it, I’ll be sure to come and tell you.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SHIP IN YOUR CURRENT FANDOM?: Isn’t this similar to the first question o.o;

FINALLY, HOW DOES ONE SHIP WITH YOU?: Throw a message my way saying ‘HEY WANNA SHIP’ and then be prepared for a barrage of questions ._. Developing a ship with me is tricky because if it becomes obvious that your muse is just trying to cause havoc or use Cas, he and I’ll likely lose interest in the ship. Cas is a romantic at heart and wants to have a strong bond beyond just sex. Also Cas often pushes aside his own problems and prioritizes his partner’s which isn’t healthy. A strong ship has both the characters working together to overcome problems either of them have.
