Do you think Culling Game really that hard to understand? Cause I saw quite a llt got turned off to JJK since that arc....

⚠️ Content Warning (no real spoilers) for the Culling Games arc. Nothing in depth to warrant burying beneath a "Keep Reading" but fair to mention just in case.

I don't know how to say this without generalizing negatively but the sentiments very much sound like they came from a cishet dudebro. I've noticed that shonen series' that have a fanbase made up of vocal queer people and/or womxn fans are widely renowned for their "insufferable fans" and this specifically is applied to JJK and MHA across social media. I wonder why.

From the lack of sexualization of female characters/students, the immediate shutdown that Nobara was going to fall for Yuji or Megumi in typical shonen fashion, the cast of men being curated for the female gaze across the manga and anime adaptation (Gojo, Geto, Nanami, Toji, etc.), the overt queer coding and presence of canonically queer/trans characters... also, the simple fact that the canonically attractive and OP characters aren't insufferable assholes? Maybe that's just a me thing but it seems like these factors have been rubbing certain people the wrong way.

Re: the animation of Shibuya and the practices that delivered the work with such an insane timeline and not to the quality of the team of animators' liking... that's valid. But that is a Mappa shortcoming in an effort to snatch up all the prolific and iconic adaptations they can, not a JJK shortcoming. As such, throwing the baby out with the bathwater there doesn't seem like a particularly sound argument but just a means to pile on.

A/N: As it stands, Mappa held the reigns on AOT's final season (taking over from Wit Studio due to production schedule), S2 of Vinland Saga (taking over from Wit Studio due to production schedule), JJK S1, JJK 0 movie, CSM adaptation of S1, Hell's Paradise adaptation of S1, JJK S2, CSM movie adaptation for Reze Arc, Zom 100... all since 2020 and does not encompass other, smaller series'.

I'll concede, it makes sense that the culling games left a lot of readers lost in the forest, myself included. Not the point of the games since we know, to what end, Kenjaku!Geto hopes to achieve at this point.

I think readers were stymied by how much time was spent on developing unique characters who were offed like.. a chapter later. A necessary evil to maintain the living core cast of characters who would later have to take on the Big BadsTM while also moving along the point system for the Culling Games. It seems like Gege Akutami took their time to cultivate these mini-fights though it wasn't clear to what end from a plot standpoint... yet. Empirically, we've seen small details woven back into the story which didn't seem apparent at the time given the exposition style of the mangaka.

As a reader, I love guessing at the end of stories. You can see the crackpot theories that pepper the Manga With Me tag. But the Culling Game arc spans long enough to lose the plot and make it so much harder to forecast where the story is going. Especially when Gege Akutami generally seems like a troll of a person anyway.

I think the Culling Games happening immediately after the Shibuya arc was a choice. Based on anime only fan reactions to Shibuya, what's to come is not for the faint of heart fans. Especially when you consider the losses suffered in Shibuya are immediately eclipsed by the regular losses and disappointments within the Culling Games. However, as a fan, I'mma let Gege cook even if they're using my tears and angst as seasoning because we haven't seen enough of the story to determine the Culling Game's true place/meaning within it.

I think, story wise, they started off too strong with emphasizing Gojo's overpoweredness. Subsequently, they had to write in caveats and build ways to close the gaps between him and other characters to allow for the story to press forward with or without him. I still don't know how this story is going to end though I think I have a new hypothesis from the last time I guessed at who would survive.

At the end of the day, it's definitely that person's opinion to jump back in once more of the story has been fleshed out should they choose to do so because a lot of people don't like dealing in uncertainties. Whatever they decide, don't let it sway your enjoyment one way or another, anon. ❤️

Okay, another question. What if, Jack chose to try to distance MC and the former coworker/Actor but they end up talking to them about Sunny Day Jack and his past (After the Mc sees some evidence of them knowing about the show) What would happen when Jack finds out? How bad would the reprocussions be?

Hmm... I imagine it would probably be affected by how secure Jack feels in his relationship with MC and what they want to do with the information about his former identity. I did touch on the idea of how Jack might react to MC investigating his past here, here, and here, so I imagine that would apply to this situation as well.

It also probably would depend on the person giving the information and how they felt about Joseph. After all... I imagine it would hit Jack differently if the person was badmouthing Joseph... or calling him a good man.

Really, it might shock Jack to know that people who used to know him as Joseph remember him as a good person. I mean, he acts like the person he used to be wasn't clean. Is it because he didn't feel loved, or did he do something to warrant the feeling that he wasn't clean? Did he have a secret life he kept from even his friends back then that left him feeling dirty? Perhaps... an addiction to drugs? Dirty deals behind the scenes?

There's so much we don't know about what happened behind the scenes of the SunnyTime Crew Show, or the people who worked on it. At this point, we're left to speculate wildly based off the few clues we have.

I mean, heck, I'm still trying to hammer down details for Sunshine in Hell myself. There are just so many possibilities, and as you might have noticed from how many headcanon rambles I have in the tag, I have a lot of different ideas about the series. New teasers and different perspectives the others have come up with in the fandom have left me waffling on how exactly things went down at Lambswork.

I've long since accepted that my story is going to be an AU from the game's canon and that my headcanons have some divergence already with obviously even more to come, but it's still intimidating coming up with something that is no doubt going to be wildly off script from what'll be in the game. A part of me wants to wait and see for more info, but another part of me doesn't want to leave people waiting too long for the full story.

I'm starting to get off topic, sorry about that. But the point I'm trying to make is that a lot of it comes down to what happened during Joseph's time at Lambswork. How did he die? Who did it? Who was Joseph close to at that time? What did people think about him verses the character he portrayed? Who did he dislike or vice-versa? Why does he think of himself as unclean?

The best way to figure out how Jack might react is considering the answers to these questions for your own fic, I think. Until the game comes out and we get to see the full story, we're left to make up our own headcanons about what happened at Lambswork.

Sorry if I wasn't able to give a more concrete answer, but this is definitely a part of the story that's a big mystery, so it's hard to pin down what Jack might do or how far he'll go when it comes to his past. Only SnaccPop Studios knows for sure at this point.

MARI Headcanons

A/N: Another one from my Wattpad! I had a lot of fun with this one! Please enjoy! :)

Warnings: One mention of death at the very, very end.

Word Count: 1.1k

- My mom first of all.

- A big thing I believe for MARI is that she's on the autism spectrum. She's not on the severe side but is still on the spectrum.

- When she was younger she didn't really know what was considered to be the 'societal normal'. She was too honest, often not understanding why people would be upset at her if she told them something that was her just trying to help them.

- She didn't really know what was wrong with being completely, unfiltered, nor did she understand why people were mad at her when she didn't act like she cared for what they like if she didn't like it.

- Her parents tried to explain it to her but she didn't really understand.

- When she met HERO she immediately took interest in him as she saw him as perfect, he just seemed to do everything right, which wasn't necessarily a good thing, but she didn't know that!

- HERO helped her out with understanding what was considered right and wrong, telling her what was the best thing to do in certain situations.

- She definitely copied HERO's personality as best as she could, seeing him as who she wanted to be and since everyone liked him he had to be doing something right!

- HERO was one of MARI's biggest inspirations growing up, along with her dad!

- Whenever MARI needs help with anything she doesn't ask for that help often as she copied and grew up with HERO's perfectionist personality, making her hardly ever need help as she's just made herself good at everything.

- But if she really needs help she'll go to HERO or her dad! Though preferably HERO first, since she's just always felt closer to him.

- The life lessons she teaches mostly KEL and AUBREY, but sometimes SUNNY, and BASIL were all things her parents tried to teach her.

- She hates not being able to play that many sports and games with KEL and AUBREY, she really wants to. Her favorites are to play tag with KEL and catch with AUBREY.

- She likes to tease HERO, she finds his reactions hilarious and adorable. But she also likes to protect him from teasing.

- Likes to tease BASIL, SUNNY, and KEL as well! But mostly HERO!

- Doesn't really get why SUNNY is so quiet but she doesn't really mind, she tries to encourage him to be more open with people!

- The same applies to BASIL, she doesn't really understand why he's so shy but she'll still encourage him to the best of her abilities!

- Really likes hanging out with KEL, she sees her younger self in him and is wanting to help him learn how to treat people nicely and respectfully!

- Took up baking and cooking because she wanted foods and sweets that her parents weren't making because she's a picky eater, it ended up becoming a hobby she enjoys!

- She's very creative! Not only does she enjoy music and the deeper meaning behind it but she also enjoys poetry and writing!

- MARI has a hyperfixation on music, mainly the piano but a few other instruments as well.

- KEL likes to make fun of her for this which is usually responded with HERO shushing KEL and apologising to MARI over and over again as he tells her "HE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND!"

- Helpless romantic, like, this girl loves herself a romantic novel and is always replacing the two love interests with her and HERO, she'd never tell him that though.

- This is also why she likes waltz! Love interests always seem to waltz in a ballroom together, and she hopes one day that'll be her and her love interest.

- She likes to waltz with MEWO. Though MEWO's usually very unimpressed.

- MARI likes to impress everyone with her piano playing skills, which is one of her main motivations for playing it.

- Very mischievous, loves to pull pranks. Will help KEL or AUBREY if they want to pull a prank on someone.

- Used to prank HERO and lot when they were younger just to see how he reacted as a learning experience. But ended up finding it funny and not learning from it at all.

- Likes to have girl talks with AUBREY, such as talking about boys. Encourages AUBREY to wait a little longer before getting into a relationship, saying that "You're too young."

- Paints her nails purple and paints AUBREY's nails pink. Will convince HERO to let her paint his nails too, though he won't act happy about it. She'll either paint his nails black or blue.

- Will also try to paint SUNNY, BASIL, and KEL's nails. SUNNY and BASIL don't really mind and will let her if she wants to, but KEL will put up a fight and argue that "It's for girls!"

- Leaves little sticky notes on HERO's side of his shared bedroom. Usually just words of encouragement or little poems she wrote about him.

- She also leaves snacks in HERO and KEL's room. But she hides them so that KEL doesn't find them.

- She's scared to mess up in front of anyone, but mostly HERO. She wants to impress him, not humiliate herself in front of him, HERO wouldn't really care though.

- When she does mess up she totally freaks, HERO always tries his best to comfort her, and he's usually able to.

- Tries to get SUNNY to eat more because he's not eating enough. Will try and sway him with rewards.

- MARI loves to read SUNNY stories before bed, since he's usually sleeping in her bed anyway. She also likes to read BASIL stories.

- She also likes to remind BASIL everyday about how important he is to her and everyone else!

- MARI is a little upset at the fact that they had to build a treehouse in their backyard as she doesn't like bringing HERO over because she's heard her dad talk about how he doesn't like HERO to her mom.

- She's tried to explain to him that HERO's a good guy who helped her learn, but wouldn't really get through to him.

- She's a totally neat freak, just like HERO.

- Hopes that one day she'll be able to completely understand why people are the way they are without HERO's help.

- MARI gets frustrated easily, though she's learned how to hide her anger and just smile through it.

- She was OVERJOYED when SUNNY said he wanted to play violin to play with her! She was practically bouncing on her toes.

- BASIL and MARI point out plants together when the group is walking somewhere, MARI is always interested in what BASIL has to say about plants. She learns so much from him!

- Always gives SUNNY a hug when they separate from each other, even though he doesn't really like to touch people.

- He'll make an exception for MARI.

- MARI wanted to be the one who dyed AUBREY's hair! She also wanted to teach KEL how to put his hair up!

- She never got the time to do so before her death...

Atari 2600 Chronicles 1980 #9 - Dragster

Dragster is interesting, it's a game whose legacy is far more significant than what the title actually has to offer. Todd Rodgers, anyone?

Yeah. The guy who claimed to have popped off hard and 'beat the simulations' back in '82, as he supposedly did with various other Activision games as well. That, he didn't do. As proven by a disassembly of the code that showed that Rodgers' claimed time was a whole 0.06 faster than what was legitemately possible. He was stripped of all his 'achievements' just a couple years back in 2018. Whoops!

The gameplay itself, I kid you not, is nothing more than accelerating, shifting gear on time and MAYBE steering if you have set it to the appropiate setting. That's IT. A round lasts no more than 10 seconds. However, I will maintain, that those 10 seconds are actually really quite fun to get a grasp off. It's immensely satisfying to follow a certain rhythm and shave off a couple more hundreds of a second. This is the kinda time trial I do seriously enjoy, even if it's only a fraction of it's potential that is being utilised here. Gives me memories of when I was trying to be seriously competitive on Mario Kart and F1 2021.

Still, this game was never worth it's original price tag. If you're only gonna make the gameplay loop shallow, at least add some confetti and sprinkles to it in the way of wacky extra modes. Multiplayer and a real-life patch can only get you so far.

The Verdict

Graphics (7): This is a weird one. It's hard to see what the drag racing car is supposed to be since it lacks any and all color, but damn, something about the color scheming otherwise and the subtle animation details is quite satisfying to me. I like it. Obviously, Activision bias applies here, the fonts are also significantly more polished than what Atari was doing.

Sound (7): Hmmm, this is a step up over other 2600 racing games I think. What I like the most about it has gotta be how realistic (for 1980 standards) it is to have to listen to the engine firing up gradually and shifting just as it sounds like it's gonna blow. Would be a little bit before we'd see that properly recreated on a home system once more, I reckon.

Fun Factor (8): As mentioned earlier, this may only be a small smidge of how expansive it could be, but this is a perfect example of how superb it is to learn how to get FAST at a game. Either via a time trial mode or straight up speedrunning. The essentials are all there. Learning the controls > completing a run > getting gradually faster > trying another mode. The controls are not even that easy, you wouldn't know how many times I blew the engine by putting on too much gas or popped the brakes too eary. Thankfully, you're not punished particularly severely if you lose out, so as long as you keep your console close to you. The game is very quick to reset with the flick of the switch, it doesn't hesitate in starting the countdown right as you do so.

As a little side tangent, man, the DualShock 2 feels amazing to use with this game. I know not everything is made equal on Activision Anthology, but this is one of those good ones. Clicky stick, solid X button to press down, the Select button is what functions as a game reset, it's bliss. Definitely a recommendation to play first and foremost if you nab a copy.

Longevity (5): Strictly, and I mean STRICTLY, for those with the patience of a monk and desire to join a site like Twin Galaxies. If you need elaborate mind games and/or external factors to make it worth playing for more than maybe an hour total, you already more or less lost this argument. If you do fit the criteria needed to enjoy the grind, this score can be a little higher. It's one of the very earliest speedrunning games after all. I'm personally quite happy with being in the low 6 seconds territory, but I could be persuaded to get below that milestone.

Re: your tags on those Haruka screenshots: You're so fucking right about the Sailor Moon Crystal art style, omg. I hate how flat it is, how little it emotes. Usagi always looks on the verge of tears even when happy, and there's no energy or life to anyone. They're all wispy willlowy looking into the distance, not acting like fucking teenage girls, and it drives me mad. They took all the wrong lessons from the manga's art, and kept NONE of the charm of the 90s anime, and it drives me mad. THEY DID MY GIRLS SO DIRTY.

I couldn't get through the first season. I know it also just has bad animation in season 1 and like not nearly the budget it should have had, but for a property as BELOVED and culturally important as BSSM, that just makes Toei's cost-cutting even more inexcusable. It was released in a sorry state, but a lot of the problems are baked into the style of the remake altogether.

I would kill someone with my TEETH to have a proper remake with the fun and life and wild takes of the 90s anime with the PLOTLINE of the manga, maybe tidied and tightened up a bit with the retrospect of Takeuchi not writing by the seat of her pants this time, since now she knows where it's going and where it's gonna end up.

THANK YOU I'm glad you see it the same way, it's just so boring and depressing to look at. Haruka lost all of her masculine edgy cool energy and just looks like an NPC in a romance phone game from 2015 sjejdjdbeje and usagi is normally so emotive and funny and silly and dorky and wonderfully annoying and just such a teenage girl, it didn't translate in the remake at ALL.

I also personally don't think they should have changed the style so much, original sailor moon anime Style was so beautiful and charming and aesthetically pleasing. It really shows that things don't automatically get better just because you apply new technologies (noodly, stiff 3D hair in the magical transformation BURN in hell)

I usually try to just pretend the remake doesn't exist. I'm lucky I was a kid when the original anime was on TV (and that I have the manga collection too hehehe!!)

So I consulted some of my friends who are the local pjo experts so I think I have a slightly better understanding of how things work

For Nene and her video games I have several ideas

1. If Sekai exists then Emu and Rui would build her a giant gaming room somewhere (fit with gaming consoles and all her favorite games) for her birthday

2. Rui would invent something idk what but he builds robots. Wait how would Robo Nene work if she's also a piece of technology? Or does it only apply to phones?

3. Rui would be the kind of person to discover by just downloading a VPN you could trick the monsters into thinking you're in the middle of the ocean or smth

I also found out that Annabeth actually owns a phone and uses it occasionally so maybe it doesn't apply in camp?

Akito - I finally have more ideas for him! two ideas 1. No drawbacks or 2. Like you suggested a personality swap where it's basically the opposite of Akito if he uses it too much for a few minutes. Imagine An and Kohane combined. I have no reason for this other then Akito would absolutely despise it. 1 makes 100x more sense but Akito hopping around saying wonderhoy is way funnier

For An Im thinking the ability to think really fast. Like it's only for a few seconds but she can make split second decisions really well. Maybe used during battle?

And for Sekai's I would personally add it. I feel like the VS at least sorta knows about the whole demigod thing (at least for the Sekai's that are formed by multiple people) like they would go up to Miku and tell her and she would be like "ohhh that explains the random training field here lol"

Oh yeah training areas in Sekai's except they're also themed. Like the wonderland Sekai has chocolate dummies and candy canes swords (I just want Emu to wield a giant candy cane).

For Sekai's made by one person I feel like the VS will have the slightest notion but still be surprised when they hear it from the others. And yes WXS knows about the training field in the world made by their friend who they think is not a demigod. No they have still not put two and two together

I also have 2 questions!

1. I think school runs in japan through summer so how do they go to camp? Do they just skip? Or maybe online classes

2. I remember you mentioned an OC in cohort 7 that didn't want to be claimed. Is there a reason why?

As for NeneRobo, I'm not sure how it worked with the electronics, but I feel like it was something related to the Internet. I do vividly remember a character mentioning a demigod being attacked by searching up a monster on Google for a school presentation. So I think it's something with the Internet. Whether or not NeneRobo is connected to the Internet or having any sort of cellular signal that could possibly attract monsters - I do not know.

Also VPN 😭😭😭

I feel like that's up to Rick Riordan himself to decide how VPNs work LMAO

As for the Annabeth phone - it's not like they CAN'T use phones, it's simply better they use them occassionally and in emergencies, since the signal makes them easier to track.

With the powers - I will still be considering them. I've been trying to use all my braindead walking around London as a leverage to think about their powers, but I only got Prima Vista blorbo thoughts to cope with the hell that this city is (hey at least I got these 4 covered...)

Training grounds in Sekais are definitely a really cute idea. I can imagine Empty Sekai having only shooting ranges, hidden somewhere, so the rest of them have to make do with whatever they find. Street Sekai could possibly have dummies dressed up in laser tag outfits or similar, think CGO armor.

I do have a strong need to make creepy stans dummies for the Stage Sekai, but is that too much LMAO

And uh, Leo/need

Anyways, Prima's Abandoned Castle Sekai would have a battlefield with barely functional dummies and stuff. Probably rusty weapons too. They're better off bringing their own.

1. There are two possible options methinks - Option A is that the gods moved from the US to Japan, since it's canon the gods move wherever they like at the moment the most. US was said to be an economical power or something and that's why they liked it so much. Option B is that there's some sort of reality distorting portal somewhere and satyrs/whoever is out on patrol guide lost halfbloods to the camps. Language barriers? Let's say they don't exist and they all speak Greek/Latin in camps or something. We can work around.

2. Hayato is a little weird, he's quirky like that. In Prima's stories, he actively hides who he is from the people in his daily life, making him live double. That's because he simply has issues with who he is and in this AU it's not that much different. He keeps doing thinks he thinks his godfather (he knows who he is due to his powers) would disapprove of, so he doesn't get claimed. He thinks it would cause a problem if people knew who he was, which probably would be a little confusing, but he's overexaggerating. The more he lies the more he digs himself in, so haha, that's fun.

I am coming back from my trip on a very early Monday, perhaps like 3am, so I may start making more AU content after I rest. The two first days really kicked my ass with all the walking, but now we've slowed down with the sightseeing, for various reasons. Definitely not the best vacations so far, but it's still a very nice break from my routine.

Walk Me Home - Georgebur ficlet

"Will you walk me home?"

In the dead of night, they left the pub and Wilbur took George's hand. They laughed merrily dancing their way down the streets, never letting go of the other. Rosy cheeks and goofy smiles made them forget George's words said earlier that night, '*I can't be alone with all that's on my mind.*'

When they reached his apartment door, their hands were still intertwined even when Wilbur needed to (but didn't want to) leave. Thoughts of leaving George after tonight's talk made his heart drop and he willed for George to speak, to say to him—

"—Will you stay with me tonight?"

"Are you reading my mind?"

"No, but I can see it in your face and in your eyes!" George laughed. It was...a happy and sad kind of laugh and George even went to rub the tears out of his eyes before inviting Wilbur inside. "Please, do come in. I'm... My thoughts are tired and there's so much wrong going on outside that I... Please, stay with me."

Wilbur smiled and trapped George in a hug, hesitating but eventually kissing the top of his head too. "Of course, George. I'll stay with you for as long as you need."

I am like, 12 hours into the game after playing it on and off for the past couple days and all I can say is that its meh. If you like it then all the power to you and I'd love to hear you're reasoning. This is just my little ol' opinion of the thing which I'm hoping will change as I get further into the game. Spoilers beware, you're in for a scare.

Honestly it's not worth the 60$ price tag or the 30$ dlc. Not the biggest fan of the character designs, the walking toothpaste commercial not withstanding just generally don't like any of the designs I've seen so far, especially whenever I need to talk to a character and I just see their hair clipping through their bodies or jiggle physics applied to hair/hair ornaments. Colorful looks aside a lot of them really do feel bland even when I do their support conversations. Feels like there could have been something there but so far its like drinking a flat soda filled with more melted ice than drink.

The boutique isn't for me either but I'm sure the people that want to dress up their characters in different designs are having a ball. Long as people are enjoying that feature I guess.

It is a bit weird that the possible marriage possibility that was introduced all the way back in Awakening but that may have been because the developers didn't want to turn the game into a dating sim. Or at least that's what I'm guessing but who knows, I stayed away from a lot of information regarding the game while it was in development so I wouldn't hype myself up. But with how watered down the characters are it really doesn't seem worth it to S rank anyone if it was available.

The story doesn't grip at all. It is nice to see all the locations and the four different nations plus flying sky island do offer a nice hook that it sadly didn't catch. Wake up with amnesia, get told that you're the kindest bravest person ever to live, find your mom who's a divine god dragon who's also obviously the queen of this land, get a dark and evil vision of yourself grinning evilly, queen dies because she was giving you all her power to wake up and then you go from place to place getting the pieces to dear old dead mom's jewelry collection. All I know is that Alear is the best thing since sliced bread and I would not at all be surprised if the allies on the Somneil became some weird cult.

The fighting mechanics are one of my favorites with how smooth it is at times but even then for a while I still felt something was off. That 'something' being the weapon proficiency leveling up. It doesn't do that unless you get to a high bond level with a Emblem that specializes with that weapon. Or when you change class you can increase you're weapon proficiency a whole rank or even decrease it. It feels a bit clunky still so I don't have much to say.

Also a bit iffy on the decision to get rid of the durability of most items. On one hand now people don't have to worry about their weapons randomly breaking during battle. On the other hand it feels like if you can get your hands on powerful weapons you can cheese the fights cause now you don't have to strategize as much as you did before.

Aside from the battle UI the only other things I can find enjoyment in are Sommie and the animal adoption aspect. Both are adorable and I am so getting every animal I can get my grubby little hands on.

And the Alear and Ring!Marth interactions that make me think they were a couple. Can't help but let out a cackle every so often.

Altogether, I'm just really hoping that the game does get better as I continue playing it. I'm not so much as angry at the game as I am disappointed that there's seemingly feels like there wasn't much thought put into it since it is a Fire Emblem game so obviously there's going to be people who buy it for the name alone. Only time will tell I guess.

lol I haven't posted in this tag since may but here we go. long rambling thoughts about 2022:

2022 was a big year for me, which is weird because it doesn't really feel that way. I started the year in a very different mental and emotional place than where I am now, and a lot of the goals I set and things I expected to change just haven't been as relevant as I anticipated. for better and for worse, I'm at the same job and in the same apartment I was a year ago. it seems likely that will be the case at the end of 2023, too.

but under the surface, a lot of things have changed. I started a major solo project at work (as opposed to juggling half a dozen smaller projects), and I got some accommodations that mean I'm a lot less worn out in all the other areas of my life. I completed my conversion to judaism. I started applying to phd programs, then changed my mind, decided to pursue independent research, and started a new creative nonfiction project that may or may not be a book someday. I've also taken on some new responsibilities, not all of them totally planned - team leader for an organization I started volunteering with last january, committee member for a professional organization I'm active in. I've been gradually getting better at being consistent and following through on some of the side projects I say yes to.

having more energy outside of work (relatively speaking) means I've been able to be more intentional with my hobbies, which I'm starting to have rather a lot of. I kept up bouldering from last year, more or less, and in the summer started looking for a kung fu gym to get back into martial arts, which I haven't done for years but have missed a lot. I am really loving the school and style (mantis) where I landed. at this point I am probably in the best shape I've been since sophomore year of high school, though it strikes me that I had to find solutions for my chronic fatigue before I could make regular exercise happen. I do think it contributes to me having more energy, but there's no way I could have been this active last year and still worked full time.

I didn't write as much fiction as I'd hoped this year - only about 50,000 words total, and I haven't posted at all. on the other hand, I'm still happily working on the same projects I was at the beginning of the year, which is truly unprecedented. the goal is definitely to finish at least one of them this year.

I did reach a lot of my language-learning goals, including finishing the chinese tree on duolingo, getting comfortable with the hebrew alphabet, and finding ways to keep up my spanish. on the other hand, I haven't been cooking or practicing piano much - possibly because I haven't been trying much in the way of new things and am getting a little bored.

I've read 64 books this year and will probably finish another two or three before the end of the year, exceeding my (low, for me) goal of 60. a lot of those books were lengthy nonfiction, which may be why the overall number isn't as high as it was a few years ago. I have also been watching a lot more TV, though. 2022 was really the year of the cdrama for me, but there were several other fantastic shows: the sandman, reservation dogs, a league of their own, killing eve. musically, the mountain goats have unsurprisingly stayed my #1 band, but I listened to a wider range of stuff compared to last year (shoutout to my habibi and ibibio sound machine kick of the last couple months). I also tried a couple of new video games, hades and control. I am not good at the third-person shooter format, but it keeps me from destroying things.

the one neglected area of my 2022 goals that I would really like to pick back up in the new year is improvements to my living space, like getting enough shelf space for my books and making sure the kitchen/dining areas stay functional.

Harringrove social media AU (in a season 2 setting because that is my paradise land) where Billy makes surfing TikToks as a teenager, with a really good following and a promising career as a pro surfer. Until Neil moves the entire family to a landlocked state, and Billy knows it's to punish him.

There could be several reasons for this:

-Billy is becoming too independent from Neil;

-Someone questioned a bruise Billy didn't cover up well enough and now it's all over the internet;

-Billy was caught with a guy he was seeing;

-Billy's mom saw his TikToks and tried to get in touch, Neil had been keeping him from her;

And now Billy's in a town in the middle of nowhere, Indiana, two months into the school year, and everybody expects him to, what, be chill about it? Not care that Neil can just ruin his life and his career on a whim, and there's nothing he can do about it? Billy's raging, Billy's seething, Billy's hurt, and no one wants to or can help him. Susan won't lift a finger or say anything against Neil, looks down every time his dad raises his voice or his hand to hit Billy. And Max- Max is furious with him, blames him for the move like he was the one who decided to pack everything, like he was the one who sold his board and packed the cars and bought the ugly house on Cherry Lane.

What the hell is Billy supposed to do now? He's a senior and he had no plans of going to college, hasn't even thought of applying anywhere. His account is going to die out if he doesn't post anything, and who can guarantee he can raise it from the dead in a year if he makes it back to California once he's eighteen? He needs the TikTok money to make it back to California anyway. He's screwed. He's so screwed.

On the other side of this, is Steve. Steve is a gaming streamer and youtuber, or was- is. He's trying, okay? But ever since- everything, he can't play horror games anymore. He used to stream horror games pretty much exclusively, had whole events for it, charity streams, sponsorships, and then the whole Upside Down thing happened, and he knows his role in it was minor, okay, he knows he was there just for the tail end of it, but a seven-feet tall monster with a flower for a face coming out of the ceiling of the Byers house was both his starting and breaking point, apparently.

His channel was pretty good. Pretty stable. Then he tried to stream Blair Witch about a week after everything and had a panic attack on stream. Things didn't get better after that.

Nancy got him into Animal Crossing, because it's soothing, so he streams that now. And The Sims. Needless to say, his channel took a pretty big hit, as did his reputation. Like Tommy H. says, he turned bitch.

But it's fine, everything's fine. He's got Nancy, he's got a loyal online community that stayed after everything, even if it's small and no one's anywhere near Hawkins. He's got his SAD (Steve After Dark) Streams for when he can't sleep. Halloween is coming up and he's maybe sad he's not doing Spooktober this year, but. Maybe on the last week. Maybe on Halloween Day. If Nancy doesn't want to go to Tina's party.

Billy and Steve collide pretty much the same way. Steve is on edge and Billy is on edge, then the world's ugliest dogs are let out, and Maxine sneaks out, and Billy finds her in a house full of boys and an 18 year old washed out streamer who lies to him about it. Next thing Billy knows he's waking up in a half-destroyed kitchen with an empty syringe two feet from him, car gone, and not a single person in sight.

On Monday, Harrington's face looks bad. It's been a while since Billy's felt this guilty about putting a bruise on someone's face, but he knows he lost it a little, that night. Went too far. He doesn't remember most of it, and Billy doesn't know if that's from whatever drugs Maxine shot him with or from just- anger. Remorse just clogs his throat and he can't breathe. He decides to stay the fuck away from Harrington.

And then Tommy H. just has to take pictures of them, make a damn video, post it to Instagram and TikTok and tag them both. Of course it goes viral.

Billy spends a full week in a state of panic. He fully expects Harrington to press charges now.

(Steve, similarly, is panicking. He streams family friendly content now. He can't just get into fights. He can't stream until his face heals as it is.)

Billy feels even more like shit when his follower count goes up and his account sees more activity than it has since the move. Like it's a reward for beating up Harrington, or something. It's not right.

(The same happens to Steve.)

So Billy has an idea. He wants to apologize to Harrington. Wants to make it up to him. Maybe he can help him get his popularity back, get his channel to how it used to be, somehow. And if it keeps his own account alive, well.

It takes a little convincing, but Steve agrees. Dustin is trying to get him into his nerdy games, but Steve isn't sure he likes them. Steve's been having a hard time, since the second round with the Upside Down. He can't sleep, can't focus, Nancy went off with Jonathan. So maybe he wants a distraction, okay? Maybe he wants something that isn't life or death.

So Billy and Steve start a partnership of sorts. Steve films a couple of youtube videos playing co-op games with Billy. Branches out to TikTok, maybe. Starts bringing Billy to his streams, at first just to hang out and then to take over and play some stuff. Billy manages to burn down Steve's entire 9th generation legacy mansion on The Sims in 30 minutes. Billy and Steve play Dead By Daylight together, and Steve feels increasingly comfortable playing horror games with Billy around.

It's working so well for Steve, he decides he wants to pay it back. So he teaches Billy to ice skate so they can make content for Billy's TikTok. Steve takes Billy sledding when it snows. Billy films Steve falling asleep in unlikely places during the day and not waking up when Billy piles things on him.

Steve hunts down and finds Billy's old surfing board that Neil sold and buys it back.

At some point, Steve becomes Billy's best friend. If he could- If they could, Billy would- They could be more, Billy thinks. But they're all over the internet, and Billy doesn't think Neil watches their content, but word can get back to him really easily. People like to speculate as it is. It's a small fucking town.

The climax would be, of course, getting Billy out of Neil's house. Getting Neil arrested. So Billy can be free.

Billy tried not to, is the thing. But it’s like his body has a mind of its own. It’s often like that when it comes to Harrington.

It was an accident at first. Harrington tripped just as Billy had been walking by, and his chest had crashed straight into Billy’s. The surprise of it had nearly sent them both to the ground, but Billy had managed to hold them both up somehow, grip tight on Harrington’s elbows.

He was so warm.

Billy had shoved him off, barked out a “Watch it, Harrington!” and walked away.

A month later, Billy can’t call it an accident anymore.

If Billy times it just right, he’s walking back from the nook where the vending machines are hidden just as Harrington’s walking towards them. More often than not, Harrington will trip on the uneven tile or be distracted with conversation. More often than not, he’ll bump into Billy.

Billy’s started to count down the minutes to this accidental touch everyday. He tries not to. But when the hands of the clock start inching closer to their lunch period he starts remembering it: the warmth of Harrington’s skin through his clothes. The hair on his arms when his sleeves are rolled up. The hardness of his bicep when Billy grips it to hold them both up. If he’s lucky, Steve might steady himself with a hand on Billy’s chest, right where his buttons are undone.

Billy shifts in his seat.

He didn’t use to be like this, during basketball season. Now that that’s over he finds himself looking for Harrington everywhere, hungry for a glimpse of his mop of brown hair, craving accidental touches.

Not so accidental, on Billy’s part.

Ms. Garret’s still talking about homework, at the front of the class. The clock hands are ticking, always closer to lunch, but never fast enough.

Billy’s leg bounces under his desk. The teacher’s going on about exercise sheets Billy’s not gonna turn in. He leans back in his chair, looks out the window. Casual. He’s not antsy. He’s not.

The bell rings.

Billy’s out of his seat like a shot. Harrington’s classroom is closer to the cafeteria. Billy takes large strides to the cafeteria, doesn’t stop by his locker on the way.

When he crosses the wide cafeteria doors, he slows. Tries to pinpoint where Harrington is. Like a sixth sense, he sees him a few feet behind him out the corner of his eye.

Harrington’s wearing the red sweater today, sleeves rolled up. His hair looks extra floppy. He’s talking to Wheeler, pointing to the vending machines.

Billy sets off.

It’s quick work. Shove coins in. Get soda. Watch out the corner of his eye for Harrington.

Here he comes.

Billy turns around.

One step. Two. Harrington’s sneaker catches on the broken tile of the cafeteria floor, and he crashes into Billy, a quiet “shit” murmured under his breath. Billy grabs onto him, one hand on a lean bicep, the other on a hairy forearm. Harrington gets his feet under him, but they’re still pressed close, hips nearly touching. Harrington’s hand is splayed on his chest, fingers wide, nudging under his open shirt.

“Watch it, Harrington,” Billy says. Not barks, not yells. Just says. His voice is rough, like he gargled glass. Their faces are close.

“Sorry,” Harrington mumbles, face going pink. He’s just an inch or two taller than Billy, but it feels like nothing. They’re so close. Harrington’s eyes flicker to Billy’s mouth, so quickly Billy might’ve missed it if he hadn’t been watching Harrington’s face so intently.

Without his permission, his thumb strokes Harrington’s forearm. Steve breathes in sharply.

Somewhere beyond them, someone drops their lunch tray, and the clatter lurches them apart. Like they’d never touched at all, Billy heads to the cafeteria doors, Steve continues to the vending machines.

At the threshold, Billy glances over his shoulder. He can’t help it.

Harrington’s heading back to Wheeler, Coke in hand. He sidesteps the broken tile expertly.

When Billy looks up at Harrington’s face, he’s looking back at him, with a little smirk on his face. It can’t be- Can it?

Billy shakes his head. Nah. No way Harrington would go out of his way just to bump into Billy.

He goes to his car to smoke it off.

It takes a while for Billy to notice, but there’s something to the warm feeling that spreads across his chest whenever he sees Steve.

He knows he can’t get enough of Steve. Can’t get enough of how he looks at Billy from under his lashes when he’s flirting, of how he tosses his head back when he laughs, of the long line of his neck, of his moles.

But there’s something else to how their eyes meet across a room, a light to Steve’s eyes when they land on Billy, like-

It takes Billy a while to put his finger on it. It’s been a long time since someone’s looked happy to see him.

Every time Steve looks at him, it’s there. That glint in his eyes like, hey, there you are. It’s different than looking at Billy like he’s hot, Billy knows he’s smoking, but Steve looks at him like… Like his presence is something good. Like he wants him there.

Billy’s not used to that.

Steve’s sitting with Robin and Dustin in the corner booth at the diner when Billy comes in with Max, and he’s laughing at something they’re saying, but when his eyes land on Billy his whole face changes. His smile looks like it… grows, somehow.

He leans his whole body towards Billy and says,

“Billy, hey!” In that bright voice he gets when he’s happy, Steve’s happy.

Happy to see Billy walk in the door.

Billy’s sure his face is doing the goofiest, sappiest expression, looking back at Steve. Just grinning at each other like fools in the middle of the diner.

Just happy to be there, where the other is.

Billy’s just put his jacket back on. His boots go on next. His earring dangles in his ear with the movement, and his back and ass ache when he rises back up. Sore.

It’s dark in the entryway of Harrington’s house at three in the morning, quiet and still hours before the sun rises. Billy hadn’t meant to fall asleep. But Steve had barely rolled off of him, one leg tangled between his, nose in his hair, and Billy was so warm and comfortable- He hadn’t meant to. It was a mistake.

He shouldn’t be there when Harrington wakes up, Steve would regret it for sure.

Steve wouldn’t want anything serious with a guy. With Billy.

He’s got his keys out of his jacket pocket when he hears it,

“Where are you going?” Steve’s voice comes from the stairs, hoarse with sleep, making Billy jump.

Steve’s in the middle of the steps with only his underwear on, the line of hickeys down his chest and halfway to his stomach that Billy put there fully exposed, a grumpy confused frown on his face. Arms crossed like he’s cold.

“I’m just heading out,” Billy says softly, unwilling to break the cover of the dark. It feels like they’re inside a dome, here in the entryway, close together but far apart.

Steve comes down the steps slowly, and his feet barely make any noise on the carpet. Billy doesn’t look away from his eyes. They’re not clouded with sleep, anymore, and they’re honed in on Billy like lasers.

“It’s the middle of the night, man,” He says, like Billy hasn’t left in the dead of night countless times before. Like they’re not used to hookups in their cars.

“Yeah,” Billy steps back, because Steve just keeps coming closer. “I’ll get out of your hair, princess. Go back to bed.”

He means to say it mean, but it comes out- soft. Like a whisper.

“Billy,” Steve says, and he’s smiling. Why is he smiling.

Steve’s hand touches his chest where Billy didn’t bother to button his shirt, his pinky nudges a nipple on purpose. Billy’s breath hitches.

Billy knows his eyes are wide, his mouth is open. He looks up from Steve’s hand to his face, and Steve looks so fond, so- He’s looking from Billy’s eyes to his mouth like he wants to kiss him.

He does kiss him.

Billy drops his keys. The need to get his hands on Steve’s face is sudden, urgent, like he has to hold on to him or he’ll fade away, or change his mind. He needs to hold Steve’s face to his or he’ll lose the press of Steve’s soft lips, lose the tongue pressing in to curl against his own.

Steve’s hands are clutching at his jacket tightly, pulling Billy in at the same time his body wants to press Billy into the door. It takes Billy a minute to realize Steve is trying to yank off his jacket, pulling roughly at his shoulders. He has to let go of Steve’s face to take it off, but he does it one hand at a time, and he trades it for pressing biting kisses into Steve’s mouth at the same time. He’ll hold on with his teeth if he has to.

Distantly, he hears his keys jangle against the floor, like they’ve been kicked away.

“Stay,” Steve pulls back to pant into his mouth. His eyes look right into Billy’s. There’s a look to them, half-scared, half-shy. Steve’s hands are tight on Billy’s waist. “Stay with me.”

He presses a kiss to the corner of Billy’s mouth, licks between his lips. Billy surges up, catches his bottom lip in his teeth, bruises a kiss on his mouth so intense Steve’s head moves with his nod.

“Yeah,” He says, and rests his forehead on Steve’s. Their noses brush together. “Okay.”

My #1 post of 2022

Billy doesn’t know it yet, but a lot of things in his life change because of Steve Harrington.

Billy’s hiding in the library when he overhears it. He’s ditching calculus because he can’t stand Mr. Hermann’s voice on a good day, the way the old man talks like he’s shouting, and Billy’s head is still ringing from where Neil hit it on a shelf last night because he was late getting Maxine home for dinner.

Billy would normally spend his voluntary free period smoking outside, but it’s fucking snowing today- just one more thing to be grateful about December in goddamn Hawkins, Indiana.

That’s why he’s sitting at a table that’s kind of out of the way in the library, hidden behind the biology section. He yanked out a book about the ocean to look at the pictures to distract himself until next period.

That’s when he hears them talking. Harrington and Wheeler.

“Mike says Dustin’s driving him crazy,” Wheeler’s saying softly, from across the shelves hiding Billy. “He won’t shut up about you.”

“We’ve been hanging out,” Harrington says, just as quietly, and his voice sounds like it’s coming out through a smile. Billy tries not to picture it in his mind. “He’s cool, you know, for a middle schooler.”

Harrington says it like he’s annoyed, but his tone can’t be anything but fond. It’s ridiculous. Billy’s seen Harrington driving around the dweebs Maxine’s friends with, has seen them at the arcade and at the diner, so he knows Harrington’s been hanging around them like an overgrown mother hen. Billy can’t make sense of it.

“You seem better,” Wheeler says, after a moment of silence, and there’s something hesitant about it. “Lately, I mean. Lighter.”

Harrington doesn’t answer, and Billy wishes he could see what his face looks like. He’d noticed Harrington had been looking rough since November, even after the bruising had faded, with bags under his eyes and hollow cheeks. A blank stare, like he was somewhere else in his head.

“Dustin’s a great kid,” Harrington repeats, kind of distantly. Then in a rush he says, like the words will disappear if he doesn’t get them out, “He’s been calling me in the walkie some nights. He can’t sleep either.”

“Oh, Steve…”

“So we talk a lot. About, you know… Being there for him, it helps.”

They go silent. It’s clear something happened to the kid, and to Harrington, and Billy doesn’t care- except something happened to Max, too. She’s been quiet, and spooked, since That Night. Billy wonders if whatever happened to them happened then, after they left him drugged on the floor.

“I always wanted a little brother,” Harrington cuts through the silence. Wheeler makes a soft noise like she’s listening. “I hated being alone all the time. I thought it would be like having a friend for life, you know. Then I got older, and my dad… I don’t think… I think that if I had a brother, my dad would make us resent each other,” He says, like a confession, and it sits like a stone in Billy’s stomach.

“You can’t know that, Steve…” Wheeler says softly.

“No, I know. It’s just a feeling,” Billy hears Harrington shift, then the shelf wobbles, like he’s leaning on it. “You know what my dad’s like, with me. I keep thinking, if I had a brother… He’d be comparing us all the time. Pitting us against each other. Makes us tell on each other. To make sure we were alone. I don’t know,” He huffs, and mocks himself with a little laugh. “Like you said, it’s stupid.”

Billy has to swallow past a lump in his throat. His hands are clenched into fists. It sounds a little too familiar, Harrington’s feelings about his father. Neil knows how to be an asshole too, especially about Maxine, and being a good big brother. Makes a point of disciplining Billy about it. Except all it does is make him hate Max.

“Maybe it’s not,” Wheeler says, and her voice is firm this time. Maybe she’s holding Harrington’s hand, even. “He really is an asshole.”

Harrington snorts, but it’s still a little sad, “Thanks, Nance.”

Billy sinks lower in his seat, careful not to make noise. He feels suddenly exhausted. The ringing in his head feels worse than ever.

“This is better, with Dustin,” Harrington says. “He’s awesome. And the other kids too.”

And my dad can’t touch him, he doesn’t say, but Billy hears it all the same.

Eventually, Harrington and Wheeler leave and Billy’s alone again behind his bookshelves, with the marine biology book he hasn’t looked at in half an hour. Harrington’s words don’t leave him though.

Billy knows his resentment of Max mostly comes from how his dad treats her, he’s aware enough of that. He hates that she never suffers the consequences of the shit the does, that she can do no wrong in Neil’s eyes, that she and Susan make up Neil’s idea of a perfect family and Billy doesn’t.

It hadn’t occurred to Billy that Neil could be doing all of it deliberately. This whole time he thought his dad wanted him to like Max - wanted him to be a good big brother. He never thought it could be all a part of a different game, to make him hate Max and make Max hate him.

What was it that Harrington said? To make sure we were alone.

Easy to control.

That’s what Neil likes, isn’t it.

Billy ends up ditching the rest of the day. He can’t stomach the thought of sitting in a classroom listening to teachers droning on about shit while his head’s buzzing with memories trying to reorganize themselves. This can’t be right. He can’t have gotten it this wrong. Billy’s too old to be this dumb, to fall for this shit.

a headcanon: pre-ATWQ, in her search for her father, Ellington briefly interacted with a rather terrible violinist playing on the streets. Ellington gave him a penny though, because he was attempting to play a violin cover of a song she listened to before with her father.

color(s) i associate them with: Purple, Green, and Orange.

platonic ship: I'm thinking of Ellington and Moxie at the moment. Post-ASOUE, because that's when they properly meet again in my headcanon. Ellington stayed with Moxie for a week due to a burning question that only Moxie could 'answer', and such stay had the two women parting on terms that has each other keeping in contact (sporadic letters and phone calls announcing visits; no surprise visits because that's how Ellington showed herself to Moxie since the last time they saw each other and Moxie nearly smash her typewriter over Ellington thinking she was an intruder.)

romantic ship: Ellington/Lemony, kind of also in an analysis way. Both parties like one another because hey, kids do get crushes. But the crush is clearly view through a 'filter' that also has each other not trusting each other fully. I think that Ellington herself as an adult is puzzle by whatever she had with Lemony, trying to figure out what were her feelings for the boy once upon a time.

a ship that i could be sway into liking as romantic, but circumstances has to be ‘right’ and/or you make a case of it for me: Kit/Ellington, in a case of 'right' circumstances. I personally can't see them together in my headcanon. However, I will read fics of this ship though, as well as enjoy seeing fanart of said ship, because other people explore it in their headcanons very well.

whether i think they got done right or not in an adaptation, if there was an adaptation of the source material they are in: I sort of fear what an adaptation would do to Ellington.

a headcanon that applies to them in the adaptation, if the above is applicable. if not, another headcanon: Ellington post-ATWQ doesn't keep a set address. She's always traveling on the road, making a living by doing temp jobs. The longest time she stays put in a location was two years, and that was only because she was living under an alias (not an anagram of her name; Ellington isn't risking people figuring out her true identity) in a city (far away from the City and Land of Districts) where a local coffee shop made really damn good coffee. She left because it got close up due to the owners entering retirement and no one bought the location, leaving it all boarded up and close.

AU 01 : THE WITCHER - VERSE

Applies to: any Witcher media setting (show / books / games / etc)

Ability Changes: - strongest in Air magic / aeromancy - able to reliably / repeatedly cast Alzur's Thunder - can perform Song of the Sky, but rarely ever has

Backstory Changes: - born in ~1140 (aging slowed by magical ability) in a milling town in Redania, to a grain merchant and a baker - a Source, tested and taken when he was 7-8 years old - taught in Mirthe for his first 2-3 years after being tested / taken, narrowly escaped the attack on it during Falka's Rebellion - transferred to Ban Ard Academy for the rest of his tutelage - decided against becoming any advisor for any ruler to go his own way - came to Skellige, learned from the druids & took on their teachings about living in greater harmony with the land, sheltering those in need/tending to the wounded, etc... as well as the difficulty in applying some of those teachings to the present world - also began learning swordsmanship, as well as various shipwright skills, the former to defend himself and the latter for his own personal interest - adopted his daughter in ~1245; she didn't have magical capability, but he taught her other things he knew; she has since taken to studying ship carpentry / design - he has a good friend in Oxenfurt look after Midadol and their house, since he's usually out traveling; also has a few hideaways across the Northern Kingdoms - spends his time aiding/protecting those he meets who need it... which lately has been including more and more elves

Other Changes: - doesn't own a horse, but has learned horseback riding - sometimes mistaken for a Witcher by some, due to his carrying dual swords (though both are steel) - the languages he can speak are: Common Speech, Skellige jargon, & Elder Speech

I've already finished the game + post-game, so luckily this does not apply to me now, but I would like to make a psa

I managed to go into Pokémon Violet COMPLETELY BLIND save for the first two official trailers that were released by Nintendo themselves. I couldn't afford the game when it launched, so I had to wait until Christmas where I would receive it as a gift, and took an insane amount of precautions to avoid spoilers. This was an incredible feat that I am shocked I managed to do with how much people exploded the internet with content.

Most of my successful avoidance of spoilers came from tumblr's tag filter system. However, I had to block a RIDICULOUS number of tags due to how strangely people referred to the names of the Gen IX games. The games are abbreviated as SV, and have been pretty much since they gave us a date. Thus, I expect all posts regarding them to be blocked when I filter out tags like "sv" "pokemon sv" or the full names like "pokemon scarlet and violet."

Aside from the fact that most people straight up did not tag their SV-specific spoiler posts with any tags at all (likely believing a month and a half was more than enough time to get it yourself), I saw plenty that were instead tagged with:

"violet" (which blocked plenty of normal posts about the actual color or flower) or "scarlet" by themselves, with no mention of pokemon whatsoever

"pokemon" by itself, with no mention of the Gen IX games, forcing me to block that extremely broad tag and then scroll through half a day's worth of consecutive blocked posts on my dash that didn't even have anything to do with Gen IX

"scarvio" (this sounds like a disease)

and even when people did tag it as a spoiler, they preceded it with whatever the hell this is

how in god's green earth was I supposed to account for this one singular person using the very specific and weirdly-shortened "pkmn scvi" as a tag?? Luckily I saw the post in question after I was mostly finished with the game, so it was nothing I hadn't seen at that point. Still, tacking on "spoilers" does nothing to help me (or anyone else) avoid spoilers if you don't write the name of the thing correctly.

I had probably about 4 screenshots worth of blocked tags specifically for these games, because I had to wrack my brain for every conceivable and bizarre way that people shortened it.

IN SHORT! please tag your spoilers correctly. just because it's been a month and a half or two months doesn't mean everyone has had the opportunity to play the game by now. and for the love of baby jesus don't make up some weird shorthand for it when there's an official abbreviation right there because then the tag filtering does fuck-all

NAME : Robert Edward Orville Speedwagon

NICKNAME : Boss, aniki, “bastard!”/"that son of a bitch!” (usually from rival gang members, so the insult varies sometimes lol), Rob (used by a few friends), derivatives of his last name −Speebs, Speeds, Speeb, Speedy, etc− but these he will only accept them from certain people, otherwise he will do his best not to cringe on the spot or will do it inwardly. Uncle Speedy and etc later on (as in once George and the rest of the children come into his life, more specifically~).

AGE : 25 in the main verse (may vary depending on the verse)

SPECIES : Human/Stand user in the main/time-travel verse | Vampire in the vamp!verse | Werefox in the monster!verse

MORALITY : lawful / chaotic / good / neutral / evil / true .

RELIGION : Non-practising catholic (was raised as Catholic, like most other Victorians, believes in God, but that’s pretty much about it)

VIRTUES : chastity / charity / diligence / humility / kindness / patience / justice.

KNOWN LANGUAGES : English is his first language. Conversational Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese, German and some more. Some conversational Mandarin Chinese as well (this one thanks to Li −canonly known as Kenpo, his Ogre Street friend−) and bits of Irish (this one thanks to Tattoo, his other Ogre Street friend). He can read and understand some Japanese (kana and some okurigana/kanji) but can’t really speak or write it. Same case for some other languages that he can also recognize and more or less understand bits of them but can’t really speak them. As you probably guessed, he’s learned most of these through his many journeys around the world.

SECRETS : All of the stuff in regards to the stone mask and all the events and incidents that came out from that (it was stated that the only ones who know everything about it from start to end are Jonathan and Speedwagon, the others who might know a great deal of it would be Straizo and Master Tonpety). He also tries to keep a low profile in regards to his homosexuality whenever he’s out of the slums to save himself some trouble due to the stigma at the time and the potential legal consequences, going only for the gay codes of the time (long hair, cleanly shaven face, colorful accessories, etc) so I guess that could count? Other than that, and in the verses that it applies, his stand mayhaps?? That’s what allows him to leap through timelines in the time travel verses (it possesses other abilities and skills but, since Robert doesn’t even know about his stand’s existence yet, he hasn’t trained with it and thus he doesn’t know about any of it’s abilities, not even about the time travel oof).

BUILD : scrawny / bony / slender / fit / athletic / curvy / herculean / pudgy / average .

HEIGHT : 5’11”, close to the 6’ mark (181 cms)

SCARS / BIRTHMARKS : The most recognizable one is the scar marring the left side of his face (going from the top of his nose to his jaw), but he has plenty more scattered all over his body, some more visible than others, some larger than others. Most of them come from fights and his general criminal lifestyle, some of them even come from some of the torture sessions he’s endured as part of that (so it isn’t surprising that they were either caused by knives, gunshots, burns, shards of glass and etc). Most of his scars are located on his chest and arms, some more on his hands/wrists and fingers (hands/wrists and fingers mainly from when he was learning to use his buzzsaw hat), though he has a few more on his legs/thighs, lower abdomen, and a couple more on his back. In the main verse (usually set in the late stages of PB), he will have a few more from the events in PB −burn scars on his hands from the fire at the Joestar mansion, one on his shoulder from the attack he received from Jack the Ripper, an ice burn across his abdomen from thawing Zeppeli’s arm, and a couple more and not so visible ones on his arms from minor injuries (cuts) he got while fighting and fending off zombies−. Most of the “PB scars” aren’t too visible thanks to Jonathan (he used his hamon to heal Speedwagon’s injuries shortly after).

ABILITIES / POWERS : He’s able to tell an evil person from a good one by their smell alone. He’s a resilient man and quite a strong one, too (stronger than the average guy, as he was shown killing zombies using his brute force only and a sledgehammer). He's good at hand to hand combat, he’s also good at using knives and guns, and at wrecking shit with a sledgehammer. I also hc that he's capable of creating veeeeeery small amounts of hamon (this as a result of Zepp's "accidental" slip) if he really puts his mind into it. Due to his current limitations with it, his hamon can’t be used for fighting, but it does enhance his healing process, making it slightly faster than that of an average human (with some proper training, chances are he might be able to do more with it, tho). His stand, in the verses where he has it, can perform time travel, which happens at random at first (he gradually gains control on his stand once he learns about it and starts training with it). Due to stands being a reflection of sorts of their user and their fighting spirit, and as an extension of Robert’s own hamon healing abilities, his stand also possesses healing abilities that can be used both on himself and on others, though this requires some training prior, as the healing relies entirely on Speedwagon’s own life force and can be fatal for him if used carelessly at first (once properly trained, it won’t represent a real danger for him to use). Much like Robert himself, his stand is also capable of packing some punches and causing serious damage on it’s opponent despite his stand being more of a “support” stand rather than a fully combat based one.

RESTRICTIONS : He's mostly a regular human in the main verse, so he’s at a great disadvantage against stronger supernatural beings such as vampires and pillarmen, for example. As stated above, the amounts of hamon he can currently create are small and, thus are difficult −almost impossible− to use for combat (again, this can change if he gets some proper training). His lack of knowledge on his stand’s existence can also count as a restriction for the time being, as he doesn’t know about it or it’s abilities and, thus, can’t use it at his will for now (it operates mostly in an “unconscious” level at first, usually after getting triggered). He also tends to wear his heart in his sleeve when it comes to the few people he truly holds dear and considers special to him, so that can be used against him if he’s not careful enough.

—— Likes / Scents! ♡

FOOD : He isn’t really picky with food since he grew up in absolute poverty and sometimes went for days without a single bite of food or eating stale (sometimes even moldy) food so like… he’s cool with pretty much anything nowadays. He’s also an adventurous man, so he’s always open to trying new and even “exotic” stuff. Other than that, pastries are one of his top fave things ever (creamy ones mainly but not exclusively).

DRINK : Tea −citrusy/fresh types mainly like lemongrass, same with berry teas−. He doesn’t mind sweeter teas but, since he usually has them with the pastries, he prefers something more “sour” to balance things out. He also likes coffee, liking it strong, kind of sweet, and hot (just how he likes his men lol). As for alcoholic drinks, he’s all for beer and gin. He also enjoys some of the sweeter ‘posh’ wines Jonathan normally has at his home.

PIZZA TOPPING : As far as I know, pizza toppings weren’t as creative and “crazy” in the 19th century as they have been over the last few decades, so he’s only used to more ‘traditional’ stuff like variants of Pizza Margherita, for example. However, in the time travel verses/modern!AUs he will definitely try all kinds of pizza toppings (yes, this includes pineapple pizza as well as entirely sweet pizza toppings and so on) and actually likes some of them.

COLOUR : Purple (shades like those of his waistcoats i.e.), pink, greeeeeeenvert, black.

MUSIC GENRE : More than a genre itself, he enjoys and appreciates music that can make him feel something. Toss some pub songs there for obvious reasons lol.

BOOK GENRE : General fiction mostly. He also enjoys reading some romance novels every now and then whenever he gets the chance to get his hands on a gay romance one, either featuring two males or two females (he doesn’t find the appeal in “traditional” ones for a variety of reasons).

MOVIE GENRE : Non-applicable in the main verse. Time travel verses −if he even gets the chance to watch a movie− and even in a modern!AU, his go to genres would probs be similar to his book genres, lol, just add some comedy there but like, not the ‘cheapest’ and cringey kind of comedy.

SEASON : Autumn and Winter (harsh winters are a pain in the ass in Ogre Street, but he can handle them fairly well overall)

CURSE WORD : Fuck / Shit / Bloody and variants of it (like Bloody Hell) / Arsehole / Wanker / Damnit / Bollocks, Ballocks and all of it’s variants / Bastard / Motherfucker / Zounderkite (victorian for “idiot” but with even harsher and ruder connotations than just using “idiot” lol) / Beardsplitter (one of the victorian words for “penis” xd). There are plenty, plenty, more but those are the ones I can think of rn. He comes from the darkest pits of the slums after all, so yeah... Lots of cussing can be expected.

SCENT ( S ) : Sweet and masculine musky scent, mainly, with an occasional subtle note of gunpowder and/or tobacco depending on whatever tf he’s been doing. Maybe a vague note of blood if he just got out of a fight. Some vague vanilla too but that one only around the time when he lands a temporary job in a bakery in London.

—— Fun Facts! ♡

BOTTOM OR TOP : Top leaning verse. He only bottoms occasionally for serious/long term boyfriends that he genuinely trusts, partly due to how being a bottom was (wrongly) perceived as being submissive by most people, and how dangerous being seen as such can be in a place like Ogre Street if the word gets out (not to mention that there’s been people there who have given him shit just for being gay), and partly because he also prefers to top and likes it better, lol.

SINGS IN THE SHOWER : Yeah. He started doing it as a child as a way to keep his mind distracted from how cold as fuck the water he’d wash himself with was (he usually bathed in rivers or washed himself with buckets of water some maid forgot outside of a household and that he managed to steal). He’s become a lot more used to cold baths over the years so a distraction is not necessary anymore, however, he still sings or hums sometimes whenever he has a song stuck in his head or if he’s particularly happy about something (this continues later on in life as well,even after cold baths are no longer part of his life, so it’s a habit that he never actually leaves).

LIKES PUNS : He loves them! Lame ones, good ones, cheesy ones, silly ones, witty ones, dirty/vulgar ones, etc. Heck, even dad jokes can be found in his repertoire! Chances are that, if you come to him with a pun or joke, he will give you one or two (maybe even more) in return.
