Billy is aggressive. Just not in the way Steve thought.
They're on the couch, a little tipsy after a few cans of beer. Billy's close and his mullet's a mess. Steve can't resist, just lets his hand wander. He's stroking Billy's hair, slowly scratching his scalp. Holding his breath the whole time.
Billy moves. Steve stops. Billy knocks his head back against Steve's hand. He makes a noise, almost a growl.
"Don't you dare to fucking stop," he grumbles.
Steve hides his grin and does as he's told. He knows Billy will deny it all in the morning.
It's a pattern, Steve notices. He shows Billy affection, Billy demands it and then pretends it never happens.
Steve likes to cuddle. Billy does, too, but of course he can't just ask for it.
"Stop tossing around," Billy groans, when they're in bed for like two minutes and Steve was just getting comfortable.
He doesn't complain though, because there are Billy's arms around him, pulling him closer. Billy snores into his ear and it's somehow easier to fall asleep.
When he's at Dustin's and his cat rubs against his leg, demanding ear scratches until she gets bored and fucks off, Steve can't help to see the similarity.
"You're a cat," he tells Billy, when his boyfriend sits on the kitchen counter and waits for him to finish making dinner. Steve never thought he would get bullied into making spaghetti with meatballs, because Billy can't say he likes it like a normal person.
Billy scrunches his nose. "I'm not a pet."
Steve rolls his eyes. "Sure, you're way too dangerous for that. Get down, you know the rules."
Billy scoffs at him, but gets from the counter.
Later, when they're in bed and Billy's draped all over him, Steve scratches him behind his ears. Billy's chest rumbles. He purrs.
Steve grins. He's so right.

I wanted to do a Billy piece. I thought what if he survived and moved back to California? And, what if they met him at the Skater Rink that Eleven clobbered that bully at? So I did a sort of pin up of him, because why not? lol 😍

There’s a particular attitude I often see on the internet that goes something like “If you aren’t part of a particular marginalized group, then you could never understand their experience, so don’t pretend to relate.” And while obviously you’re never going to relate to every aspect of that identity unless you are also of that identity, I feel like this attitude really diminishes opportunities for finding kinship and bonding in similar experiences even if those experiences aren’t exactly the same and/or are the result of different identities.
For example, I’m white and neurodivergent, and I was talking to a Black neurotypical friend about masking, and how I feel like I have to change the entire way I present myself in order to not be considered weird in public. She responded with “Oh, some of that sounds kind of like code-switching— how I have to switch away from using AAVE in white-dominated settings in order to be accepted.” And then we bonded over how frustrating and ridiculous it is that AAVE and stimming are both considered unacceptable in “professional” settings.
Another time, a straight Jewish friend was telling me about a book she had just finished reading, which was written by a Jewish author and had a Jewish main character. She was saying that it was really nice to read a book written by a Jewish author, because even when gentile authors do their research and write a pretty accurate Jewish character, they never quite feel Jewish— you can always tell the author was a gentile. And I said “Oh that sounds kind of like when I read queer characters written by straight authors— you can always tell the author was straight even if they do their research and get things fairly right. So even though I’m happy when any book features queer characters, it’s really especially nice to read queer characters written by queer authors.” And we bonded over this similar experience, and we were both excited that the other understood even if we were coming to this experience from different angles, and then we swapped book recommendations. This conversation is also a great example of when that internet attitude DOES apply— when someone outside of a particular group is trying to understand that group’s entire experience well enough to accurately write the world as seen through their eyes. They’re never quite going to get it right, and that’s ok! It just means it’s important to also have Own Voices authors writing those types of stories also.
Sometimes it seems like people who have been in internet circles exhibiting this attitude for too long are afraid to ever try to relate to the experiences of anyone in any groups other than their own for fear of causing offense, which is honestly pretty counterproductive. Understanding each other and bonding across groups should be the goal! Relating to each other is not a bad thing!

Wow wtf HIV/AIDS was discovered by Flossie Wong-Staal, an Chinese-American woman, and she’s the reason the HIV test even exists. AND THEN she invented the molecular knife that lead to treatments for HIV/AIDS. And she’s STILL ALIVE. We don’t hear about the contributions of Women of Color enough, my word. Madness.

The whole thing is heartbreaking of course and I understand why and how Anakin lost the fight, but it is at least on SOME level REALLY FUNNY TO ME that Anakin gets his ass handed to him by Obi-Wan on Mustafar.
Like. The Chosen One. Full Darksider, Full Rage Mode, peak of his power and youth and physical prowess. He’s all-in, he’s outright sold his soul to Satan and killed a bunch of people AND now even Padme told him to get bent. He’s got every reason in the world to put 1000% Force Rage Power into this fight. And yet. He loses. Against a dude who doesn’t even wanna be there, who is soul-crushingly sad about everything, and who spends most of the fight not even actively trying to kill him because he really doesn’t want to. Like, the last thing Obi-Wan says to him before lopping off his limbs is basically a plea to NOT MAKE HIM DO IT. I know Obi-Wan is amazing (do I even need to say this) so it’s not like I’m SHOCKED that he could kick someone’s ass, but the whole thing is still hilarious to me even if it also makes me so very sad.
All that, and Anakin still loses the fight. Way to go, Anakin. Way to go. Now everyone’s still dead and Obi-Wan is even sadder and you lost like 65% of your body and got yourself set on fucking fire. What a week of excellent choice-making this has been for you, buddy. Nothing but home runs.
It gets better when you realize that their final fight, in which Obi-Wan literally dies, isn’t even a slam dunk for Vader. Obes basically LETS him kill him, and then to top it off he up and disappears, leaving Vader standing there awkwardly all ??????? I love it. I LOVE IT. There’s Anakin out there, being the Supreme Force God and trying to figure out how to cheat death for like 20 years and Obi-Wan physically disappears into the Force itself right in front of his face, and Vader likely has zero fucking clue what just happened. I laugh every time I think about this because there is absolutely a nonzero chance that Vader didn’t even think Obi-Wan had died just then. For all he knows the guy could have just teleported somewhere. (Honestly? It’s Vader and so by that point it’s entirely possible that he becomes concerned that he hallucinated the whole encounter on account of his chronic and worsening Kenobi Madness.) I love that Obi-Wan is my forever fave and yet the part of the series where he DIES is practically a HIGH POINT for me, because WHAT A WAY TO GO; BRAVO.

Just so you all realize and see it in action:
This fic was finished in 2015 and the author hadn't had a comment since 2016. They appreciated the comment even though it was just emoji hearts, they were happy and surprised to receive love on their older fic.
Don't stop commenting just because it's an old piece or because you think you can't come up with something smart, witty or thoughtful to say.
Just say anything. Just put an emoji. Just let them know you appreciate their work.

Was anyone going to tell me that the guy from Shogun is the same guy that made the Gay Pirates song that went viral in 2013 or was I supposed to find it out for myself?
