TMNT Rant Ahead: You've been warned.

I am officially going to rant for a moment. Why is it okay for girls to swoon over toxic stalker vampires, overly possessive werewolves, demons who demand their souls, angsty emo fallen angels, and a host of unhealthy nonhuman lovers, and yet I'M somehow creepy and weird for liking Ninja Turtles?

The original TMNT comics were gritty, dark, and absolutely not for children. The first movies had cursing and violence. The 2013 series had incredibly heavy themes. The Rise of the TMNT movie had actual body horror, some cursing, and I'd feel incredibly uncomfortable letting a young kid watch it.

Don't even get me started on the Michael Bay movies. We don't talk about those. Not for kids.

The argument I get is "it's creepy that you like characters from a kid's show." Bro, did you watch only the goofy 1984 show? Or have you taken literally any time to read the comics or watch any of the deeper stuff?

You may judge me for wanting Donatello to carry me away to the lair for snuggles, but is it really any unhealthier than wanting a vampire to assault you?

this is inspired by a reply @bebopbabyy left on this post about Steve getting a kick out of his daughters' post-shopping fashion shows. I thought about it literally all weekend, so thank you <3

Steve absolutely loves a good fashion show. I can't decide how much his own taste in clothing has changed since high school (probably not that much, but he did go to a liberal arts college annnnd that shit changes the wiring of your brain I'm pretty sure so who knows), but he definitely has *opinions* on clothing and updates his own wardrobe accordingly. He loves dressing the girls up all cute when they’re little, and he’s completely thrilled when they start forming their own sense of style.

The one thing he doesn’t usually do is go shopping with them – purely because his migraines really don’t improve as he gets older (if anything, they’re getting worse) and the mall is a surefire trigger ( and he’s overjoyed when they lose interest in Justice because the colors alone weren’t helping his headaches one bit). This means that when Eddie and their daughters return home still riding the high of a day of shopping, Steve gets to sit on the couch and watch a fashion show, complete with music and commentary.

Eddie: And here’s Miss Robbie, modeling a jacket that nearly caused actual bloodshed in the fitting room. 

Steve: Why?

Eddie: Hazy wanted it too.

Steve: And they couldn’t each get one?

Eddie: Don’t even get me started, Steve.

Like most spontaneous and child-facilitated events, it starts out strong and crashes almost immediately.

Moe, so loud they can hear her from the "dressing room" (downstairs bathroom): Robbie, that's mine!

because i am very very obsessed with versions of the turtles meeting each other i couldn't stop thinking about the utter angst that would ensue but also the softness and slow found family vibes

specifically the 2012 turtles meeting versions of themselves where tang shen doesn't exist, where splinter's entire world is the turtles + april

the 2012 turtles meeting, say, the rise!tmnt, the bayverse!tmnt, or the mutant mayhem!tmnt?? versions of the turtles whose splinters never had a serious love interest prior to their creation, whose love and attention was always solely focused on them?

i'm thinking about bayverse!splinter, who sacrificed himself for his boys without a second thought, who finds out about another version of himself who has all but pushed the turtles away, the precious turtles who are the light of splinter's life

mm!splinter, who literally was desperate to keep his beloved sons protected from possible dangers, who faced his greatest fear in order to help his boys, seeing how broken, how tired they are.

rise!splinter, who, despite how it seems, can and will put his boys above everything else, who cannot even fathom the idea of not wanting his sons around, of falling back into his life before the boys, seeing these versions of his sons be so easily abandoned

just... the 2012!turtles meeting different versions of themselves, and meeting different versions of splinter, and being so fully prepared to recieve that same cold shoulder, only to be gathered into warm embraces, and have gentle, fatherly reassurances whispered to them.

and they're rightfully hesitant, they're unsure, because having your father immediately turn to his original family without a second thought leaves some lasting trauma and pain, but they can't resist falling into the different splinters' arms, pouring their hearts out as they cry and listen to advice that only splinter can give.

and somehow, idk maybe the donnies make dimensional transport watches bc that's definitely a thing that would happen, so visiting the different dimensions, and hanging out with the different versions of themselves + splinter becomes a weekly thing. and slowly, the 2012!tmnt bring the other versions to their own world, introduce them to xever, and chris, and april, and casey, and the mutanimals, and it slowly spirals into all of them getting together and hanging out.

and the 2012 boys slowly start to realize that they do have a family. it may not be the one they thought they had, but it's even better, and full of people who truly love them.
