(aro)ace culture is knowing that you desperately want to have a romantic partner, but having no idea WHO because you're not attracted to anyone, and then constantly questioning whether or not you're really a-spec because of it💀

The depictions of Aragorn as an unwashed, dirt-eating, off-the-grid backpacker become much better when you realize that he was raised by Elrond, by all accounts the most civilized, refined, and genteel person on the known continent.
The hobbits had just gotten used to seeing him eat uncooked rabbit and suddenly he’s sitting at Elrond’s table, speaking three kinds of Elvish and using the correct fork for every dish!

I’m having a really hard time coping, all of our plans are completely non-existent, we had planned to study abroad together and finally meet that way, maybe even share a little cabin in the woods for weekends. But now she plans on getting married instead.
we used rp constantly, pretending to be each other’s perfect spouses. Now she can’t, saying it feels like she’s cheating on her man.
It seems like she brings his name up every 10 minutes and I’m stuck with a reminder that I have no one else. I’m not even certain I’m capable of romantic love even though I desperately want to be.
does anyone have any advice on how to cope when your QPP suddenly a romantic partner of her dreams?

@cultivating-wildflowers has been rereading LOTR and mentioned that since Tom Bombadil had been around since forever, he was there before the firstborn elves.  He was basically their introduction to sentient beings.  Which is super funny but also super terrible because imagine being an elf, exploring and trying to learn about this new world you’ve found yourself in, and suddenly this strange, short man comes prancing by, singing nonsense, and you begin to question everything you’ve learned so far.

Hello, my friends! I'm starting a new thread! This time, create your elven oc, or just an elf, from LOTR or the Silmarillion, using this here lovely meiker by @findekane and tag your friends who have ocs! Or tag them if they like LOTR. (Keep in mind the meiker is in progress still, but I believe it deserves some love!)
I'll go first, with my LOTR oc, Elwing Perhedil, daughter of Elrond.

On a scale from Turgon to Elrond, how well did “raising your sibling’s offspring/descendant in your hidden valley and having them fall in love with your daughter” turn out

Oh no oh no my research into Khuzdul morphology lead me to a page on that brought up the connections between Khuzdul and Adûnaic, and the specific example it used was talking about how in Adûnaic, “gimlu-nîtir,” which means “kindler of a star,” incorporates the objective form, since “gimlu” is the objective of the word for star, which is “gimli”
And given that this is Tolkien and there is very little coincidence with his languages, and also that it’s canon that dwarves use names from the languages of Men instead of their Khuzdul ones when interacting with non-dwarves, that means Gimli is actually named “star” and I’m having some kind of feelings about it!

Thranduil being King includes:
Settling minor disputes between the Silvan chiefs
Making speeches and overseeing official festivals and events. He’s also down to party at a Silvan Celebration, but none of that at a Sindar event
Makes certain that trade runs smoothly between them and outside kingdoms
He leaves most of the rule making to the local leaders, but is sure that certain standards are met
If the people think their chief is abusing them or making unfair decisions, they go to him to have it set right.
In his mind, the council does nothing and are there to get in his way and to keep him from making swift and speedy decisions. But in actuality, they are there to safe guard him from making any horrid mistakes
His duties are actually rather chill compared to other kings since the Silvans are rather independent and would rather take care of themselves (except for when they can’t, or outsiders are involved)
BUT it is HIS job to protect and maintain their borders. He takes it vary seriously, and this is where you’ll see his intelligence and strength shine. As well as his knack for discipline
