UMINEKO X DRAWTECTIVES: OGALVY AND MARIA, YORK AND BATTLER

I have much to say, so sorry in advance for the length!

I was rewatching some of Drawtectives before attending one of the NezumiVA Umineko streams and I thought it would be fun to cross the two over! They're both mystery "games" but with vastly different tones and settings.

The first drawings I sketched aren't even the ones finished here but I'm sure I'll get to them soon enough. The one I started lining first was Ogalvy and Maria, or specifically Piss Boy and Sakutaro! They're cuddlie~ I even had my own Piss Boy plush next to me while drawing fo reference! I think Maria just deserves good things and she'd be such good friends with Ogalvy, I had them doing drawings together. The outfit swap was also fun, though a little tricky with how cartoony Ogalvy is. Maria's clothes were a bit tricky to put on him, but I like the way it turned out! Also proud of the facial expressions, hope I got the right kind of "enthusiastic to the point where you don't even smile, you're just totally focused and excited".

York and Battler got compared to each other a while back so I thought they'd be good to draw together, and I love the idea of Battler being a goofy bi disaster. Not only that but given how him being tall is mentioned repeatedly, I wanted to bring in the energy I feel whenever I see someone taller than me. I basically just hardcore projected onto Battler is what I'm saying.

The outfit swap part was a lil tricky but still fun, since York has two key design traits: he keeps on his armband with his outfits and he can't wear sleeves. "The technology just doesn't exist". I took off the sleeves of Battler's outfit, but I still decided to swap the armband around, mainly because the part of York's arm it would go on was geometrically confusing and I didn't want to draw attention to that. The hair was also fun to swap. Battler looks like that one rando from Overwatch and I'm not sorry, but I'm not proud either. It does still look nice to me.

OK! That's the process explained! And now: a call to action.

Hey, peeps on the YouTube stream and on the Umineko tag: you should watch Drawtectives! It's a fun and silly mystery series! There is murder in it but it's still lighthearted for the most part, it's got charming characters, and season 3 is on the horizon! You could catch up pretty easily in time for it to start and have a gay ol time!

Hey, peeps on the Drawtectives tag waiting for season 3: you should read Umineko! It's an incredibly engaging and emotional mystery series! It's got a massive cast with lots of character depth and many puzzles to solve! It's on Steam (but please don't use the new sprites they made they're so much worse than the OG sprites, switch to them), a few other places too, and I'm pretty sure there's even a Kindle Port, but I've been enjoying the readthrough by the delightful NezumiVA!

We've got a really nice community of people who've read it before and people like us who don't know what's going on there. It is a bit longer than Drawtectives I'm afraid but it may not take too long to get caught up on the playlist. Nezumi's also pretty good at warning for the more sensitive content in the Novel which is always a big help. Only thing I'd watch out for is some gorey stuff toward the end of episode 2, which isn't even visually depicted.

UMINEKO: BATTLER'S LOWTIERGOD MOMENT

Hey, check this out!!! I think I really knocked it out of the park with this one. It was a couple of streams back on the NezumiVA (tm) readthrough, during a particularly intense scene, Battler slapped Beatrice and told her to uhhh... well, you can read the speech bubbles! I thought this was really shocking, partly in a funny way because of the LowTierGod vibes and how little I was expecting it, but that really was an intense moment, and I wanted to depict it! Partly as a shitpost, partly because it's really powerful! This is one where I used harsh lighting, I love doing that, what with the swirling red magic stuff, the golden butterflies, the blue eyes, and the shadows!

While drawing this, I looked at the manga and anime versions of this scene. I think the manga's definitely better, the posing and animations of the anime were so so painfully stiff, but they both portray Battler's anger as a more cold and collected thing, I think that's a massive mistake. The VN has him crying here, I wanted to bring that energy in!

This piece is meant to convey equal parts an "awesome" intensity, the extreme emotional state of Battler, but I also wanted to portray him as a more threatening figure at the same time. In this scene, regardless of how "real" it was, Beato was seriously caught off guard and did not have the power in this scene. There's an emotional vulnerability, a fear and sadness to her that I wanted to maintain.

I also had a little help from my bestie @banmitbandit on this one! I wasn't posing the leg very dynamically so I got their help with it! Also got some text advice and the font I used from them! Thank you bestie!! <3

Anyway! I'm excited for Episode 4 this weekend! Apparently this is the longest one by far so a little scared but still excited! The end of episode 3 was really exciting! Things got shaken up to a level we haven't seen before, I've got no idea where things are headed. I remember someone suggesting drawing the drrrropp! at the end, I probably won't because this was involved enough (although you can make me do that if you like), but that really was some cool imagery, as well as that window shattering (even though that was actually illustrated). I can only assume there will be more wonderful moments in the future. Time to begin the next game!

TOUHOU TIME: YUUGI BEING ALL STRONG AND STUFF

This was finished a while back, I think towards the end of March (which now that I write it I have emotions about!) and I'm really proud of how it turned out! I think the initial inspiration back in February or January was just drawing a buffer woman. I think I can improve with that to some extent, but I wasn't trying to go for ripped, more swole, and I think I brought a nice energy to her.

I was initially just trying to draw Yuugi herself but I ended up finding a pic of the wrestler Rhea Ripley which I liked the pose of, and she was stepping on another woman in the photo so I decided to draw Marisa here too!

I also realised that since Yuugi had two major costumes this would be a great opportunity to flex my alt skills! I definitely think Yuugi looks better both in terms of her base looks and her alts, and it was really wonderful getting to design new alts for her. Some of the alts for her T-Shirt costume were based on her sprites in a MUGEN character pack, but all of the Robe alts were mine, I really like what I managed to do. I even had one alt representing Kasen Ibaraki! This was fun to do, and I hope to do more pieces with alts in future. The Umineko stuffs, I haven't really done that much, although I am gonna be posting a new piece based on that tomorrow so look alive!

I think after my uni course it was a little difficult to muster up any desire to draw, so it's nice looking back and seeing myself be able to draw at a pretty fast clip again! Part of that is cos that Umineko readthrough is motivating me to get pieces done faster but also it wouldn't work if I didn't already have the beans to do it. It's nice to remember why I'm doing this, why I love art.

Anywho! Upcoming is that Umineko piece I alluded to and I've also applied for that Seasons of Gensokyo zine so I'll hopefully have something in association with them soon! Comms open as usual, and I hope you have a wonderful day! <3

HAPPY 413 Y'ALL!!!! CHECK THIS SHIT OUT!!!

I was thinking a while back of what to do for this year's 4/13, and I was talking to my bestie Mit (you know what it's short for) and they brought up this "Switcharound Meme" where one person draws the sketch, another does the lineart, and another does the colours. I assembled myself, Mit, and another friend who has read Homestuck, Lara, and we got to work!!!

Mit is very partial to the Gemini boys so they drew Sollux, I recall talking to them about wanting to do a piece with Latula after seeing how much they simped for another piece with her, so I decided to execute on that here, and Lara was interested in doing something with either Davesprite or Roxy, and they landed on Roxy.

I flipped a coin to decide what order we'd go in and who'd do whose lineart and all that, and Mit would do the lineart for my piece with Lara following them with the colouring, and of course her doing the lineart for Mit's piece and all that.

I really enjoyed messing about with the colours and the lines here, especially with Lara's since their art style is so different from mine. It was so so fun working with other people, but I remember seeing Mit's lineart for my sketch and completely losing my mind. Seeing another person iterate on my idea and bring their own incredible magic to the table was an experience I don't think I'll soon forget. It affected me profoundly, and I really hope I get to do something like this in the future.

Happy 4/13. Homestuck kinda sucks in a lot of ways but I still really love it and I'm happy I got to share this with others who it's important to, and of course with all of you.

Readthrough with da NezumiVA crew is going strong, we're just nearing the end of episode 3 now, and I think at some point in the last stream I realised that in Umineko, all of the members of the Ushiromiya family are part of the nightmarish soul destroying inner family politics, and most of the servants have been so badly abused they don't even see themselves as human and don't realise something wrong has been done to them. Kumasawa is in a weird grey area because we don't really know her full deal other than in the magical version of events she's a gosh dang witch.

These two on the other hand?

Nanjo is just a doctor. He wants to do his job, and he has a friendship with Kinzo (even though Kinzo also sucks)

Gohda cooka da meatball.

They're simple. They're wonderful. They're just normal people! I made this kind of shitposty art to commemorate that. That in all of this magic fuckery and all this patriarchal bullshittery we have two rocks of normalcy.

(yes I know they might be the culprits/accomplices in one or more of the murders but they're still simple on paper don't ruin this!)

I'm excited to see the conclusion of episode 3 tonight/tomorrow morning/whatever! The plot's in a spot where I'm really not sure what's going to happen next, so it's very engaging. This art was made mid episode 2 and Beatrice has only gotten weirder about feet since then.

Folks, Umineko, as it turns out, is really good. Been super enjoying NezumiVA's readthrough of it, very excited to see how the story develops! Right now we're mid episode 3 and there's a handsome man, fun times!

I'm looking into getting more work as I search for a permanent job, I like drawing things for people, so it'd be so so cool if you wanted to get me to draw your favourite lil blorbos! My general outline is in the image here: a bust is £30, a halfbody is £40, a fullbody is £50 and shading is £10 extra! You can also get a detailed background for £10 and an extra character for £20!

I'm very comfortable going outside these strict perameters, I'm cool with drawing things like gore, NSFW (though I probably won't be posting those two!) and even some anthro and mecha stuff! if you have something you'd like me to draw that doesn't immediately fit into this stuff please let me know! I already know I'd be down for drawing alt costumes for not much extra.

4/13 is approaching too, I wanna make some art for that! I've been holding off on posting art that I finish partly because that's just what I do and partly cos I've been scared of AI shtuff but honestly I'm OK taking the risk of getting scraped if it means I get to share my stuff.

Awawawawa! More Touhou art! And more palette swaps!!!

This is a fun piece. I haven't had a lot of spoons for drawing for a while but I've been whittling away at this over the span of over a month, and I'm proud of how it turned out!

This was partly inspired by this post, but funnily enough I only remembered it after I'd done a lot of work on this piece's sketch. Sakuya has learned what oxygen is at least twice throughout Touhou, and personally I think she's just fucking with people. Coupling that with Reimu's more surly attitude and overworkedness felt fundamentally right to me. They would totally do this.

My bestie @banmitbandit also helped me out when I couldn't figure out what to do with Reimu's head angle and facial expression so give them a thanks! Go into their askbox and say "thanks", do it now!

I also wanted to do palette swaps again! I freaking love palette swaps, I want to make that my whole brand at this point. The second image is based off of their alt costumes in Phantasmagoria of Flower View, the rest of Sakuya's are from Hisoutensoku, which I actually downloaded just so I could get a better look at the sprites. The pictures on the Touhou Wiki don't actually show Sakuya's braids or her eye colour so I had to go straight to the source. Her appearance is remeniscent of Remilia, Youmu, and maybe Flandre?

Reimu's appearance in the third image is more or less a straight translation of one of her alts from that game, it's very similar to Sanae, who I don't know that much about but seems to be something of a foil to Reimu. The other two alts of her I made myself! One is supposed to look like Marisa, the other is just that I saw a pink alt of Reimu from Antinomy of Common Flowers (by the way, I had no idea before that Sakuya wasn't in that game! That feels so weird!) and I wanted to do something cool with pink! I like pink, I think it's the best colour. I was thinking of doing more, but actually I kind of borked up the whole process with the coloured lines on Reimu's outfit, merged it with the regular lines layer, and also hit that layer with a gaussian blur making it *very* difficult to edit it and the lines. Marisa Reimu and Pink Reimu's lines were very involved, I had to make multiple correction layers to change the colours. If you notice, Reimu's eyebrow on the first image is different (and IMO better) than the others, that's also because I wasn't watching and holding onto my layers properly.

I'm still super proud of this piece! Art is inherently good to create, and though I can't do much at the moment but rest, I'm proud I could get this in there a little at a time.I hope you have a safe weekend! Much love! <3

Boo! Fishgirl Jumpscare!

This is Princess Ruto from the Zelda series, and all her alternate costumes from Hyrule Warriors, and a few extra ones, including one based on Mipha from BotW.

I wanted to experiment with stuff like palette swaps, since I really like that in media so it would be good to make that myself. It was surprisingly quite easy with this, but still took a while. I'm excited to use this in the future!

Made some fanart of Persona 5 with my buddy's OC for her birthday! I promise I do art for things that aren't people's birthdays (and hey if you wanna commission me then 📞 know what I'm sayin?)

This was really fun to draw, I like making Joker and all blank protags a lil fruity. The freckles on Sparky's boy were also fun. The background was fun to get ideas for but a pain to actually draw. I didn't need to do that by the way, I inflict this upon myself.

Idk if you can see the books at the back with the pic quality but I got some books I liked at first for books Ren/Akira might have, and then took from some in-game books and even a fun reference to "the Cake Knight Rises" movie you can see. Then got some books on cooking, parenting and the works for something Sojiro might own. Getting a shot of Café Leblanc (which I realised while researching is a reference to Maurice Leblanc, author of the Arséne Lupin books) was difficult. I got some angles from some fan made 3d models online.

Hey, check out this Zelda ship art I did for my buddy @mikey-hunter !!! It was his birthday recently so I drew him Link and Paya from Breath of the Wild. (In the context of him calming her down while she was spooked in The Stolen Heirloom quest)

I've just finished off basically all my work for uni (in fact I may post some of that on here) and it feels so refreshing to draw something that isn't uni-related, especially a gift for a friend! I'm not an active shipper myself (although I guess by creating this I am?) but I definitely enjoy Paya's head-over-heels crush on Link, it's so cute! I'm also a big fan of hurt/comfort so this prompt specifically was really enjoyable to draw for.

I'm going back home soon so idk where I'll be at with art or posting, I'm currently working on a piece for Touhou Project of all things so that'll be exciting. Hopefully see you soon!

Drew my buddy @dantelorde's DnD character, Shirley! She's a cowgirl and a Firbolg, so she's a cowgirl and a cow girl!

I've had a lot of fun playing with our kooky little group, and the DM makes very funny NPCs. This is a little dialogue exchange Shirley had with a shopkeeper, who is a mannequin. They hang out around Cartoon City, which is exactly what you think it is!
