A Fleeting Visitor

To the anonymous mofo that requested a lee! Airy Ler! Anyone ticklefic:

I regret to inform you that I couldn't complete your request. Believe me I tried, I really did. But I just couldn't do it. I wrote the story as normal planning to fit it in at some point, but then I realized that it just wouldn't fit.

Honestly it might have been mistake to put ONE on the list and I may or may not take it off. 😅

Maybe next time I should use AUs to make this easier on me.

But I put WAY to much energy into this damn story for me to just not post it , so I am. Even though it doesn't fit my blog's theme.

Something I don't understand why people complain about:

Something that people seem to complain about quite a lot in fandom culture is when characters in a piece of media or even the piece of media itself gets wildly misrepresented.

"I hate it when a character drinks coffee and people act like it's their only personality trait!"

"Just because she's forgetful doesn't mean she's stupid!"

"Why does everyone think that because she's a lesbian she worships the ground that other women walk on?"

Like listen, I get it, we all love all these characters and we want to see them done right.

But as a writer... Writing a bunch of characters that aren't your to be as accurate and nuanced as physically possible is a very difficult skill to cultivate. A deep frying experience for the brain. And I only write one shots that are 700 to 1700 words long.

If someone doesn't want to deep fry their brain every time they wanted to write a fic or make and art piece or make any generic Tumblr post talking about the characters, than you know what:

That's fair. And I don't think they should be clowned on so hard for not wanting to go through the effort if they don't want to for what ever reason.

I've read comments from people saying that they wanted to become better writers specifically because they didn't want to be flamed for their lack of nuance. IMO that's a pretty sad motivation to be a better writer.

Becoming a better artist shouldn't be tied to the fear of getting clowned on.

That's the main reason I have a problem with this trend in fandoms.

You know what my favorite Tumblr blogs are? 😊

The Tumblr blogs that are basically an ENTIRE fanfiction universe that is a canon divergent AU to whatever original canon it's based on!

I also love the fact that they are usually ask blogs! Like a bunch of fans coming together to encourage the chaos, which just ends in the Tumblr blog fanfic/fan comic becoming it's own sub fandom within the original fandom!

To the people who say stuff like:

"Your characters don't have a mind of their own!"

"They don't talk to you, they aren't real.."

"They don't control the story, take responsibility for what you write."

So it's ok for the audience to treat the characters the characters like they're real but not the author? 🤨

I'm fairly certain that if someone told me they cried at Titanic and a responded with "Why were you crying? the actors are still alive."

They'd prolly call me a buzzkill or jackass.

So why are we throwing that energy at the people who write all these characters?

Literally the whole point of reading stories is to get invested in the characters and/or the situation. If it's ok for the audience to do that, why do some people look down on authors for doing the same thing?
