The wounded man scrambles back, alarmed! Terrified! Hosea has never encountered somebody so gargantuan in all his life. He turns to bolt. But his body is still weakened from a gun shot he'd received a couple of days prior. The old man plummets to the ground- a shriek escaping him as he fumbles now for his custom revolvers.

....

Perhaps taking aim would have been a mistake- his inability to retrieve his weapons in time, a stroke of luck. For the voice that reaches out to him, is big, yes, but gentle and kind. Brown eyes stare up. Startled. 'Safe?' He looks unusually stupid as he stares at the giant man.

The dark circles surrounding his eyes give an indication...Its been a while. The mess in Saint Denis was weeks ago.  Yet Hosea struggles to move on . Arthur, John, Dutch, Abigail,  Jack, the people he cares for are missing from his life. He doesn't know where they've wound up, or if they even survived. But he has...Cole saw to it that he had. With his hand he applies pressure to that still aching wound.

'Rest?' He laughs bitterly. 'I haven't slept well for a long time.' Yeah, and clearly it's starting to burden him. 'Don't worry, don't fuss, I'm fine.' The way his body trembles and a fit of coughs take a hold, he is far from fine. Buy the old fella tries still. 'I think you've wasted enough time on me, Cole...' A hand absentmindedly plays with the bandages at his chest. 'I'm sure you have a life you want to get back to.  Not wasting your precious time on some beaten up old man.'

His nightly fits must have awoken her. Just like they wake Lenny most nights. Hunched over a crate, coughing it up like some creature, is not the image he would choose for himself...unfortunately its common place these days. Taking a deep breath, composing himself. 'Didn't mean to wake you.'  Hosea apologies. It's still very strange to him, the concern and care he's shown.

"When was the last time you got some rest?"

'Feels like an eternity.'  The last few night in particular have been insufferable. ' don't pity me.' He whines. 'You have enough troubles as is.' Sadie must have her own night terrors to deal with. Hosea doubts she needs his.

Hosea lowers his head immediately. Had it been anyone else, he might have told them to shut up; he can self-deprecate as much as he damn well likes. But, hearing Dutch seem genuinely upset... Something about knowing that Dutch, even now, still sees him as beautiful, its painful.

The elder refuses to see Dutch's eyes, instead choosing to stare at his boots. 'What do you want from me Dutch? I know my I'm a sorry sight, do you expect me to lie to myself?' A bitter laugh. 'I save the deceit for the idiots I intend to rob.'

"Now who among you is with me and who is betraying me?!"

'Dutch!' Hosea's voice calls out over the commotion. He cannot believe what he's seeing; Dutch with firearms aimed at their boys! Hosea is devastated. Dutch really has slipped. To chose Micah over the men they raised as sons. To question the loyalty of not only John, but Arthur. His sanity is undeniably broken.

Cattleman revolvers spin in his hands, one targeting Micah, the other, Dutch. 'You've lost your damn mind!' He stifles the urge to cough- a fit now would expose him to a shower of bullets.

'Stand down you moronic bastard!'
