Do you start a lot of projects but don't finish most of them? How do you motivate yourself to actually finish a project or is that not something you struggle with?
Well
Sharing my art with others used to be my biggest motivator to keep going, make something as good as I can, finish a good idea, not give up, etc
Being able to show other fans my fanart and sharing my art with a community is super motivating
Actually that’s why I became an artist. Because I could share it.
Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut
Tumblr media
that’s become really difficult lately
It’s one thing to lose support, but to be actively pushed out and hurt for your art is a crazy mindfuck. So I’ve had to spend the last couple years reordering how I think about everything, why I make art, what my motivation is, where my community is
I’m used to failing. I’m used to practicing to achieve the things that scare me. I’ve seen myself fail, work through it, and succeed so many times, so the evidence is there, you know?
So I guess my motivation is me now
it’s not as strong as the motivation of sharing art with others. I need a lot more practice being enough for myself. But I think it will be worth it

To me, you aren't like most fangirls when people think of "fangirls"? Your views, such as to enjoy fandoms in a healthy way and seeing yourself as equal, are so powerfully feminist and empowering for young women. Not valuing yourself by a man (even a fictional one), refusing to compete with other women, and choosing women before men are all admirable standpoints. You set strong boundaries for yourself, and you say NO. You demand to be allowed to exist. You're an amazing role model.
Thank you!
I think “not like most girls” is a little problematic, though? A phrase like that implies that “most girls” are something less, or somehow bad. Especially when you mention not competing with other women—”not like most girls” actually establishes competition!
I think fandom communities are a good idea and can be safe spaces for women and minorities, but I think it’s the responsibility of especially white women in these communities to examine our internalized misogyny and internalized racism and actively tear them down and focus on inclusivity and equality in order to ensure that safety for ourselves and others. If we don’t, we are doing the very same thing to each other that straight white men do to us—the same gatekeeping, exclusionary silencing, invalidating, shaming, degrading, myth-stealing, hero-stealing, and othering—that made us seek these communities in the first place.

I wish I had the resources to speak up about this harassment situation in a way that was positive and could benefit and protect others, especially other women artists, and I wish I had the resources—emotionally, financially, medically—to use what I’ve been through to change fandom communities for the better and make online communities safer for queer and trans artists
but I just don’t

Fanworks are self-indulgence
It’s masturbation
it’s a form of masturbation to write and draw your fantasies
Do you have any idea how fucking subversive and brave it is
to be trans, queer, women, black, minority, disabled, etc
and share your fantasies and desires
and then call it real art and decide for yourself that it matters
as much as a Picasso?
Fuck you I’m outstanding. We’re outstanding. Fuck Picasso.

So as some of you may know, my spouse-in-crime, the infamous Mr. Gaslight, is a professional photographer.
He recently had a show upstate! He’s going to be on PBS at some point!
And thanks to that show, my apartment is now buried in GIANT FRAMED PRINTS and it’s kinda getting ridiculous.
So he’s rented a storage space, but he needs some help defraying the cost.
Do you enjoy:
Arty pictures of buildings?
Moody pictures of old grave and cemeteries?
Tasteful pictures of nekkid people contorting into various positions?
Also some cosplay photos?
Sweet! Here’s his website! (Landing page is SFW.) Tell him you love his work!
Are you able to help him with a small monthly donation? Awesome! Here’s his Patreon!
Are you financially unable but still want to help? Please reblog this!
Thank you and we love you. ♥

Lizzo by Elicia Donze, drawn in PS. Please do not remove caption.
Instagram | Twitter | Artstation | Ko-fi
[Caption: A realistic digital painting of Lizzo. Portrait is from the shoulders up. Lizzo is wearing a pink and white feather shawl. Her bright bubblegum pink hair is piled high in a beehive hairdo with sleek finger waves and pin curlicues across her hairline. Tiny diamonds decorate the finger waves and a large chrome and diamond hair pin rests above the waves. Her lips are pale pink and glossy, and she’s wearing feathery eyelashes and smoky eyeliner. The background is a soft, radiant sunburst of yellow.]

My neighbor spotted a bear & asked if I had a gun just in case like I haven’t been his neighbor for years
What the hell are you gonna do with a gun against a bear anyway Jim.
Just tell em to go. They’ll pout about it but they’ll go.

Please do talk about the Eudora Patch theory
thank you and also the three anons who sent me this question; y’all saved my life. I’ve been dying to talk about this for like a week but all anyone wanted to hear about was Diego’s hypothetical nipple ring, which knocked several years off my life and nearly rendered me catatonic, but now we’re back, babey!
SO
this is a theory that springs entirely from this exchange, transcribed for anyone who can’t see the gifs or doesn’t want to bother clicking that link:
Eudora, referring to Diego’s outfit: Coming from the guy dressed in spandex.
Diego: It’s not spandex, it’s leather. And you used to like that. At lot, if I recall.
E: God, please, unremember that.
D: Etched into the data bank, Eudora.
now, first off, let’s acknowledge the obvious: they’re clearly meant to be referring to their previous sexual relationship. I know that, you know that, we’re all adults here. Diego and Eudora used to fuck and there was some leather involved.
BUT.
faced with such blatant subtext my goblin brain presented an alternative option, which went something along the lines of “lmao, what if we willfully misinterpret this to mean Eudora also used to be a vigilante?”
obviously there’s not a lick of text in-universe to support it, but it’s… kind of a fun thought exercise to watch the series and read every reference to Diego and Eudora’s relationship through this lens. it adds a lot of extra heft to their disagreements about effective crime fighting methods, for one, because it would mean that they’ve both been on both sides - Diego got tossed out of the police academy, and Eudora actively chose to give up vigilantism at some point.
if you flip the entire series to Eudora’s perspective, her four episode arc follows a familiar narrative in the more gritty/realistic superheroes: a former vigilante getting gradually lured back into old habits by somebody close to them who’s still in the life and needs the help. it’s season 2 of Daredevil where Eudora is Matt Murdock and Diego is Elektra, except the woman is still the one who ends up dying.
there’s also that line where Eudora’s partner drops that VERY exploitably vague “I can’t believe you two used to…” because, hello? how much funnier is that if he does, in fact, mean “I can’t believe you two used to run around in matching domino masks fighting muggers with your bare hands and the entire precinct knows about it.”
it also makes for a HELL of a backstory if you’re a Eudora fan. her and Diego are both driven by helping people; the only real difference is what they think works. so picture young and less disciplined Eudora, impatient with the police academy and eager to make a real difference, absolutely fascinated by her disaster classmate who was, fairly recently, an actual superhero? intrigued by the possibilities of helping people directly, outside the law? both of them furious about some case that went wrong, some evidence that got bungled, some victim who didn’t get justice, deciding to take things into their own hands and realizing holy fuck we could do this. this is a thing we can do.
they’re spending their days helping each other study to help people and their nights running around getting in scraps actually helping people and it’s not that new for Diego, not really, but Eudora is flying on the adrenaline. it’s the most tangible difference she’s ever made. it’s the most exciting thing she’s ever done. it’s, honestly, kind of hot. I know I said this started out substituting vigilante antics for sex but I think the really galaxy brain option is absolutely both.
(there’s this mental image that’s haunting me of the two of them wearing matching black masks and sweaters sitting on a roof, swinging their feet because they’re new at this and aren’t good at finding crimes yet, arguing about which one of them is the sidekick until Eudora kisses him and Diego “I didn’t hang out with any nonrelated women until I was 18″ Hargreeves almost falls off the dingdang roof) (listen… I know some of my followers can art… if you ever need an idea… this one is free)
and then obviously for maximum drama Something goes wrong and maybe it’s a single incident that gets Diego kicked out of the police academy and makes Eudora renounce vigilante antics for good (although it does not make her give up boning vigilantes, those two are comfortable in a way that says, to me, that they were on and off for y e a r s and always assume they’ll end up together again) (that’s not what this post is about but g o d)
tl;dr Eudora Patch briefly dabbled in costumed vigilantism and it’s like 25% a shippy thing and 75% “if this show won’t give Eudora a rich past and inner life I’ll do it myself”

Just because our fandom experience is a happy, positive one, and we never see wank or cause drama, and we and our friends have a good time, and we have the actual word “positive” on our sidebar or whatthefuckever, and we ship everything, and all we do on our blog is reblog gifs and meta
we are not excused for our fandom’s sexism and racism and the harm caused to women, queer fans, and fans of color
If you consume fandom content, share fandom content, publish fandom content, you are part of the fandom. You contribute to the fandom and therefore enable fandom patterns of behavior
Minding your business ≠ exempt from criticism

I’m white, and I have come to be disgusted by fandom behavior in general. It’s extraordinarily harmful to women and women of color.
I used to defend it. I still defend fangirls and the right for women to indulge in fantasy. I’ll defend fantasy to my last breath. But not at the expense of those who lack privilege to be heard.
The community aspect of fandom is a white women’s club that I used to be a part of, and I’m ashamed daily by its hypocritical, violent, sexist, racist, opportunistic patterns of behavior—however internalized and unrealized it is—and most white women will try to destroy you if you say that, which they are doing.
