If she had her way, people would stop calling Theodore Nott controlling. Okay, maybe there had been times where he had lied to her and deceived to get his way, and sure, he was quick to rise to temper which often made her just agree with him, but it was just because he always knew what was best.
And that was what she kept repeating in her trembling mind the night that Theo had made the phone call.
She liked this side of him. She had said it to him explicitly that she liked it when he took control and she didn’t have to actively use her brain.
After a year of dating, she thought Theo would be used to her indecisiveness, and yet, she was sat on the edge of his bed, all dressed up, whilst he he towered over her, waiting for her to make up her mind.
“It cannot be this difficult of a decision.”
“I just don’t know what I feel like.” Her legs were swaying, the backs of her thighs hitting the blanket draped over the edge of her bed. She hummed in thought, noticing the way Theo’s jaw began to tick.
“What about that Mexican place?” This was the third place he had offered and even he noted the desperation in his voice.
“Do you want to go there?”
Theo had had enough. He knew the pretty girl sitting in front of him was hopeless at making decisions, but this was too far.
“We’re going to the pizza place you like, okay?” Before she could open her mouth he continued, “C’mon, get up, we’re going.” And his arm was shooting out towards her so she grabbed hold of it and kept her mouth shut.
And it was only after they left Hogwarts that she admitted to her pretty boyfriend that she liked when he ordered for her, because that was what he always did. And once he had this admission, Theo made sure his pretty girlfriend never had to make an order for whatever it was her heart desired.
“I don’t know what a feel like, maybe I’ll just get cheese.” She put the pizza menu down and looked at Theo who was already looking back at her.
“Sounds good.” He wasn’t too interested in the topic of the conversation, but he always made sure the pretty girl in front of him had his full attention.
“What are you getting?”
Theo knew what would happen the second he answered, and like clockwork, she immediately replied, “Ooh, maybe I’ll get that too.”
“You can have some of mine,” he offered.
“But yours sounds better.”
“We can have half of each.”
But she wasn’t listening, her attention was drawn back to the paper menu in front of her.
“I think I’m going to get vegetarian, instead,” she hummed.
“Whatever you want, princess.”
He watched her bit her bottom lip, and the skin above her nose crinkle.
“Nah, I’ll get cheese.” Before Theo could respond she continued, “No, vegetarian.” Theo didn’t respond. “No, definitely cheese.”
“You sure?”
“No.”
And Theo thought he really couldn’t be to blame for his control issues when his girlfriend was like this.
When the waiter came over and looked at her first, she gave them a polite smile, but then returned her attention to the pretty boy in front of her, undeterred by the waiters lack of attention and relaying their order in full confidence.
“-and a vegetarian pizza please,” he finished, making the decision for her.
She liked not having to worry about trivial things like this, and Theo liked making sure he could rid a worry as small as this. Because that was all he wanted. For her to receive the best.
Which was why, the night after her friends had called him controlling, he decided that he didn’t like the sound of these ‘work friends’.
And, no, it wasn’t just because they had caled him controlling. Merlin, most of his friends told him to his face that he was controlling. He already knew that.
It was because even though they had invited her to go out countless times since that night, he didn’t properly meet them until her birthday.
He had offered to bring them in when he brought her in, but she brushed him off.
“I offered, but they declined,” she shrugged her shoulders, looking at the mirror in the sun shade for the passenger seat, missing the way Theo kept glancing over to her.
When he picked her up he asked again if anyone needed a ride home, just like the good boyfriend he was.
“I offered, but they said they were fine.” Yet when the drover around the corner a small sound of surprise left her pretty lips.
“What’s wrong, princess?” Theo’s eyes kept flicking away from the road, trying to read her pretty face that was staring out of her window.
“Nothing,” she shrugged her shoulders and turned back to face him, giving him a faux reassuring look.
“Tell me,” he said in a tone that left no room for argument.
“They’re just in line for another club,” she gave another shrug as if this had no importance, but it did to Theo because he could tell, even though she tried to hide it, that it had importance to the pretty girl sitting next to him.
“I thought you were all going home,” he squinted his eyes slightly as he turned to look at her, but she wasn’t looking at him. When they drove past a light, he could see that she was chewing the edge of her lip.
“I thought so,” she shrugged, finally turning to him, “oh well, I was ready to go home anyway.” She gave him a smile and if Theo hadn’t spent three years of his life with her, he would be convinced she was fine.
It didn’t take long for Theo to decide that he didn’t like these so called friends. He didn’t explicitly tell his girlfriend this, but he didn’t hide his disdain either.
When they cancelled plans and she went over to his house instead he’d angrily ask, “Well did they tell you why?”
“One of them had other dinner plans.”
“But you had planned this a week ago.”
She shrugged, “something came up.”
The look he gave her was enough for her to know that he wasn’t happy so she changed the subject. “I really want to watch this new movie tonight, I don’t think you’ll love it, but I think you’ll tolerate it.”
When he got a phone call from her barely an hour after they had gone out, reassuring him that she was okay, but she wanted to go home, he’d demand, “It was them wasn’t it, what did they do?”
And even though he hadn’t said who ‘them’ were she’d still say, “no I’m just not feeling up to partying tonight.”
Even though she sheepishly admitted that they were more interested in hooking up with some random guys then staying out together for their girls night which she originally thought was the plan.
“That’s horrible.”
She shrugged. “It’s fine. Do you think we can stop for some ice cream on the way home though?”
The reality was, it was easy for her to say that Theo was just being his usual controlling herself. This was how normal friendships worked. And she didn’t have a lot of friends. She had her Hogwarts friends, but they were older now and weren’t in contact as much. And it was a much easier thought that this was what friendship was like rather than facing the fact that she didn’t really have any friends. Besides Theo of course.
But she wouldn’t tell him these thoughts because she knew he would go on a rampage unti she was happy, so she never expanded on it and made sure that Theo never got a chance to tell her he hated her friends, even if she was certain he despised them.
A few months later, just after they had been together for four years, Theo knew that it was time to make his lovely girlfriend his lovely wife, and he wasn’t going to let her friends come in the way of that, not when they had gotten this far.
They had a small engagement party with their friends from Hogwarts and a couple of their work friends. She had, of course, invited those two girl from work, even if Theo had rolled his eyes behind her back when she informed him.
It started when the two girls started fawning over her ring.
“I need to know how much this cost.”
Sure, Theo was the first to admit he had traditional values. She had teased him before about being old-fashioned. But he didn’t think discussing the price of his fiance’s engagement ring was an appropriate topic, especially in front of two girls he had maybe met twice, and didn’t exactly like.
“He refuses to tell me,” the pretty girl grabbing his hand had answered instead. “He’s too old fashioned.”
Her eyes flickered to him to let him know that she was joking and he gave her hand a itte squeeze to let her know that he knew.
“Oh come on,” one of them said, “I’m dying to know.”
The conversation lasted another couple of minutes with his pretty girl trying to swerve around the question while he remained silent. Which was unusual for Theodore Nott.
Sure, he was a man of little words. And he much preferred to sit and observe rather than get invovled in the action. But that was always the opposite when it came to the pretty girl next to him. But he thought that if he opened his mouth, none of the three girls around him would like what would come out.
But then it continued when one of them tried to flirt with Blaise albeit his polite refusal, not wanting to make a scene at one of his best mate’s engagements.
Theo didn’t think anything of it until she had the audacity to come over to him and ask him about it.
“You know your friend Blaise?”
“Obviously.”
“What’s his story?”
Theo refused to answer. They were in a private room and he was standing next to the bar, a drink in hand and he sipped it to avoid responding.
Unsprusingly, she continued anyway.
“Like, is he in a relationship? I didn’t think he was but then he refused me, but he is quite fit, I think, and he said this wasn’t the place for it, but I think he was just playing hard to get, what do you think?”
He was going to be drunk quite soon if she kept talking to him.
“I think I’ll try again. Merliln, I love being friends with someone who has hot friends.”
Theo downed the rest of his drink and promised himself that he was going to push the conversation out of his mind.
And he probably would have if his pretty girl didn’t come up to him with a nervous look in her eyes, less than thirty minutes later.
“What’s wrong?”
“Do you think we coud do cake now?”
Everyone had just finished eating and the volume of the music had increased to encourage people to start dancing. She was on her tippy toes, bringing her lips close to his ear so he could hear. Theo had his next drink in hand, but he was sipping it sowly after drinking the last so fast.
“We just finished eating darling, give it a minute.”
“I know but-” she gave herself away when she turned to look at the two girls Theo was trying to ignore the whole night. “They need to leave.”
“They need to?”
The way she biting her lip and swaying on the spot was all Theo needed to see to tell him that that his pretty girl was lying to him.
“Well, they got a call from one of their friends and-”
“I don’t want to hear it.”
“Theo,” she whined. She knew the exact tone she needed to use to make Theo do whatever she wanted. But this apparently only worked for frivolous things. Not something like this.
“No, we are doing cake later. If they need to leave, let them. But we are not doing it now just for them.”
“But-”
“I said no.”
He hated the way she practically deflated in front of him.
He hated that her bottom lip was trembling.
He hated that they were doing this on their engagement.
But she had to stop making excuses for these horrible people.
“Will you tell them no?” Her voice was so soft he wasn’t sure he would have understood her if he wasn’t watching her intently.
“I’ll tell them more than just no.”
“Theo,” she whined, but he had already put his drink down and was storming over to them.
“So you’re leaving?” Theo asked the two girls sitting down at one of the tabes. He had risen to his full height and she was immediately taken back to her Hogwarts days when rising to his full height meant nothing good and definitely something physical.
“Yeah, but we’ll wait until you do cake.” One of them responded as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
She was squeezing his hand so hard Theo was convinced she’d leave bruises. Not that he minded. But her nervous energy was rubbing off on him and he wanted to send her away, just like he’d do back in Hogwarts when he’d rise to his full height.
“Well we just ate, so we probably won’t do cake until later.”
“Oh,” one of the girls said, “but we’re leaving now.”
“Well, thank you for coming.”
“Ok,” the other said, standing up. “But I tought you said you’d do cake now?” She asked, turning to the small girl hiding behind her fiance.
“I-”
“I said it was too early.” Theo cut her off.
And that was the end of that conversation. After a very awkward goodbye hug, the two girls had left.
She didn’t know what to say to Theo. In once instance, she was glad that he had dealt with it. She didn’t really want to do the cake now, it was too early. But she also didn’t want to confront the two girls, she had to see them at work every day!
So even though Theo wanted to let out some sarcastic remark about how nice her friends were. He refrained when he saw the confused look on his pretty girls face.
Upon reflection, this was the night everything turned messy.
The next Monday the two girls had confided in their friend.
“Don’t you think he’s a bit controlling?” One of them asked, trying to make their voice unaccusing but failing horribly.
She shrugged as she said, “he means well. And, yeah, he is, but I don’t mind.”
She didn’t dare tell Theo this, who, the night after the engagement, had decided he could bring up how much he hated her friends.
“I don’t like them.” He had brought up after they had finished opening all of their well wishes.
She already knew who he was talking about.
“They mean well.”
“Do they?” He was sitting on the lounge and she had gotten up from her place on the floor to sit next to him.
“Most of the time,” she laughed, even though he didn’t think it was funny. “They’re just different to us.”
“Well I don’t like them.”
She bit her lip.
“I’m sorry.” Theodore gave her a look. Of course it wasn’t her fault. She couldn’t control who she worked with.
“I just wish they treated you better.” She thought that if they continued with this conversation she’d start crying so she changed the conversation.
“We have to thank Draco for his very generous gift.”
Theo wanted to tell her that if he had his way, she would never see them again. He’d help her find a new job, or better yet, she wouldn’t have to work. His family were part of the Sacred 28, she didn’t need to work.
But even with his controlling streak, he knew that might be a bit too far.
That was until a couple of months later when it was her birthday. Theo had surprised her with a little trip that required her to take a couple of weeks off work. Which he had already organised.
The two girls were bummed when she said this would mean she wouldn’t be having a birthday party.
“But we can still party when I get back!” She had exclaimed.
“So I won’t get to see Blaise again? I really thought I had a shot.” She had gotten in response.
Theo had organised for her to have a week off before they actually left and on the night before he could finally have her all to himself she was sitting with her head against the back of their bed, biting her lip and staring at her phone.
“What’s wrong princess?” Theo had asked, lying down next to her.
“Nothing.”
“Nothing?” He repeated.
“I just, it’s stupid.” She said, turning her phone off and letting her head rest on the pillow next to his.
“If it makes you look that stressed I’m sure it’s not.”
“It’s just, they haven’t messaged me all week.”
Theo already knew who they were.
Theo wasn’t sure why this frivolous thing was his tipping point but for some reason it was.
She wasn’t sure why she was telling him this, but it felt good to get off her chest.
“I messaged them on Monday to say I’d miss them and hoped work wasn’t too boring without me, but they haven’t replied.” Her voice broke at the end of the sentence and Theo was convinced that was why he had chosen now to tip.
“Don’t message them.”
“What?” She turned her head to face him.
“Don’t message them, see how long it takes for them to reach out.”
“Theo, you’re being ridiculous.” He gave her a look to let her know he didn’t like the words that left her pretty mouth. “We’re going away, I want to enjoy my time with you, don’t do this.”
Much to his annoyance, Theo did as she said, trying to put it to the back of his mind so they could enjoy the trip he had been planning for months.
But a part of her thought back to what Theo had said many years ago in his car when they were going home from Draco’s.
“I know what’s best.”
And she had spent so many years with Theo and there was a reason for this. She trusted him. So even though she made no commitment to it, a piece of her thought that she would listen to his advice.
For the actual day of her birthday, Theo had planned a special dinner for her. He had gone to extreme lengths to make sure her day was perfect, which was why he couldn’t understand why his girl had a sad aura around her as she got ready for dinner.
“What’s wrong, princess?”
“Nothing, Theo,” she said, trying to look up at him with sincerity. They were both dressed and ready, standing in their hotel room with their hands intertwined.
“Princess.”
“I’m just-” she looked at the ground, “they haven’t messaged me.”
“Since we left?”
She nodded.
“Not even today?”
She shook her head.
Theo was ready to apparate back home and give them a piece of his mind, but instead he grabbed her chin and made her look up at him.
“Please don’t worry your pretty little head about this, they don’t deserve you.”
She was shocked with his response. She was sure he was going to apparate home and give them a piece of his mind. But he didn’t. And he was a calm in a very un-Theo like manner. And she liked it. So she trusted him.
So he took her out for dinner and he made her feel like the most special girl in the world. And he did the same for the rest of their trip.
On the last day they were both on their backs, lying in bed. The bedside lamp was on and Theo turned to see her eyes closed, but a pretty smile gracing her lips that told him she was awake.
“Darling,” she opened her eyes and turned to him, humming in acknowledgement. “I called work today, told them to give you an extra week off.”
Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion for a fraction of a second before she pieced the pieces together and nodded.
“Thank you.”
Theo had also taken a week off work to be with herand he became aware that her mood was quick to fluctuate.
After her birthday, Theo distracted her and she was happy. But the day before he could sense the nervous energy radiating from her being which magically disappeared the second he told her he had told work to give her another week.
Similarly, he noticed she was okay when she was distracted during that extra week off. Until the weekend came.
It was Saturday night and she was in the shower and Theo had been thinking about this for a while. He knew it was wrong. Knew it was crossing so many lines. But he couldn’t let his fiance suffer like this.
He grabbed her phone from the bedside table and put in her password. He scrolled through her messages. Many of the last messages being from her, thanking various people for the kind birthday messages. When he found the groupchat he was looking for, he didn’t hesitate.
The last message had been from her, the week before they left. Theo swore at them in his head.
This is Theo, I think it’s best you delete her number from your phone. She won’t be coming back to work and she deserves better than the shit you’ve given her.
Theo almost found it humorous that within seconds he got a reply.
What the fuck?
Look who’s talking
He scoffed at both of their replies and waited unti they stopped typing.
You literally control everything she does
Maybe if she didn’t have such a controlling boyfriend we’d be able to have more fun with her
Theo debated blocking their number, but he just couldn’t resist.
Right, like the fun you had with her on our engagement? Before you left after barely an hour for some random guy
It was silent for a minute.
Before you practically kicked us out
Theo let out a quiet laugh
We love her and just want what’s best for her
Theo heard the shower turn off and his heart dropped.
Yeah, and that’s why you never wished her happy birthday. Fuck off
And with that he blocked both numbers, deleted the group chat from her history, turned her phone off and put it where he found it.
That was the easy part. Now he just had to convince her not to go to work.
She came out of the shower, only a towel wrapped around her body, loose strands of hair falling from her bun.
He could sense an unspoken sadness and he wondered if she could sense his unspoken annoyance.
“Darling, “ he began, sitting on the edge of the bed as she made her way over to him. If he didn’t have a job to complete, he would’ve taken more time to appreciate the way she instinctively sat on his lap. “I’ve been thinking,” he cleared his throat as she looked up at him. The image of innocence on her pretty face. “Do you really want to work?”
Apparently it wasn’t too hard to convince her to give it up. He had started explaining, “You know, you’re marrying into the Sacred 28 and I don’t want you to feel like I’m making you give it up-” which he totally was, “but I just want what’s best for you and-”
“Theo,” she interrupted. “I’d like that.” And she gave him a swift kiss before getting up and getting changed into her pyjamas.
When she came back and joined him in bed he turned to her and said, “I’ll ring them tomorrow,” and pressed a soft kiss to her forehead.
She wasn’t stupid. She had been waiting weeks for a message from them and when she couldn’t even find the groupchat she knew something had happened. Knew that Theo was somehow involved. She debated asking him about it, but did she really want to know? She knew it must have happened while she was in the shower. She could practically hear Theo’s heart beating when she was sitting on his lap, but she was happy to live in denial. Her boyfriend was protective and he liked to look out for her, even if it sometimes crossed the line. But she was happy to put the blame on her two friends, and she fell asleep easy that night knowing that the boy who had his arm around her would always have her back.

“I swear I was trying to say babe, I would never call you something like that, you know that right?”
“Just give it up, Draco, I know you were trying to be funny, but it wasn’t.” She pouted, hoping he would be able to hear it through the phone.
“I wasn’t trying to be funny!” She knew he was running a hand through his hair, making the tips flick up in a weird way that made her wish she was there to fix it.
“Your phone can’t just change the words you type.”
“Princess, I swear I will leave work right now just to show you.”
The issue was, she knew he would if she didn’t put it to rest and as much as she loved teasing him, she didn’t want to make such a fuss.
“Please say something.” She sighed at his words, pretending to think about the situation.
“I’m sorry,” she giggled out nervously.
“What? Why?”
“I thought it would be funny to change the settings on your phone and-”
“You did this?”
“Yes.” She bit the corner of her lip nervously.
“You’re the worst.”
She let out a small giggle as she said, “but I’m hilarious.”
“Debatable.” She could hear him sigh.
“So,” she hummed, dragging out the end of her word, “will you still pick me up tonight?”
“You’re lucky you’re cute.”
“I love you lots,” she blew a bunch of kisses into the microphone.
“Yeah, yeah,” he grumbled, “I love you too, see you tonight, babe.”
Tumblr media
As soon as she opened the door she put her palm out flat.
“Give it to me?”
Draco laughed as he took his shoes off and made his way into her house.
“Give you what?” She scoffed as she stepped aside to let him in, moving her hands to her hips.
“Your phone.”
“Why?”
He moved over to the dining table, pulling a seat out to sit on it, noticing her bare feet and purse half empty resting next to him.
“So I can change it back,” she whined walking over to him and pouting.
“Change what back?” He was wearing a faux innocent look that made her roll her eyes, much to her boyfriend’s amusement.
“Draco,” she said, “I miss when you were begging for my forgiveness.”
“You know what I want to know?” He asked, ignoring her last statement and looking up at her as she raised an eyebrow, her fingers digging into the flesh on her hips. “How did you get my phone in the first place?”
She shrugged her shoulders, copying his innocent act. “I don’t know, maybe you shouldn’t leave your phone on the bedside table when you shower.”
“Wow,” he chuckled, “too bad if I had something private on there.” He was trying to act offended but the way the corner of his lip quirked up told her otherwise.
She snorted, moving her hands to fold them across her chest. “What do you have to hide from me?”
“What if I was planning a surprise for you?” He retaliated knowing she had a point.
“For what?” There was no special event coming up for months and even if her boyfriend always made an effort for her, there was no way he was this organised.
“Just because I love you.”
She giggled, leaning down over him to press a soft kiss on his pretty lips.
“I love you too.”
When she pulled away she put her palm out flat again and this time Draco handed it over, sighing as he leant to his side to get the device out of his pocket.
“I assume you don’t need my password.” She rolled her eyes, as if he hadn’t proudly told her that his password was her birthday the second he changed it over.
She tapped furiously on his phone, feeling his gaze on her as she changed it back.
He shuffled to his side when she handed it back to him, a beaming smile gracing her pretty features.
“Alright, now finish getting ready, we have a reservation.”

“I’d say,” she tapped her finger to her lip, noticing the blonde boy hanging on her every word, “annoying,” she said with a confident finality.
“What?” She had to stop the amused expression she would normally wear, trying to convince her astounded husband that she was being serious. “You’re so full of shit.”
She gasped.
“You’re literally proving my point.” He rolled his eyes and manoeuvred his body to grab onto her hips and pull her towards him.
“Take it back.” He was peppering kisses all over her neck making her let out a traitorous giggle. But she refused to deny it.
It had started less than five minutes earlier. It was well past eleven at night and the young, newly wed couple were still in that stage where neither necessarily wanted to sleep, still fascinated with the idea of being married and wondering what differences came with it.
Draco was reading a new book that she had bought because the blurb sounded like something he would like and she was writing something down in her notebook, being extra careful not to get ink in the bed. Again.
When she suddenly put her quill down, a thump eliciting from the force of it landing on the paper, Draco didn’t even finish the sentence he was on before he dogeared the page he was on and put the novel on his lap to look at the pretty girl slouched next to him.
“If you could describe me in one word, what would it be?”
“Beautiful,” he replied without an ounce of hesitation. She rolled her eyes, copying his actions with her own notebook and placing it on the bedside table with the quill that managed to keep its ink where it was meant to be.
“You’re flattering me,” she turned her head back towards, “tell me the truth.”
“I am,” he insisted, also placing his book on his side so he could reposition himself to look at her properly. Her pyjamas were hanging loosely over her body and she had various strands falling out of her ponytail framing her face that was ever so slightly starting to puff up due to the late hour. But Draco was telling the truth.
“Alright, well give me another.”
Draco thought about this one for a second, trying to find a word that suited her but would also appease her interest.
She stared up at him as he hummed to himself. His hair was dishevelled and his t-shirt clung onto his biceps in a way that forced her to focus on the words leaving his pretty lips.
“Strong-willed.”
“Interesting,” she hummed, having a feeling that he was trying to say something to get a reaction out of her. Well, a reaction was what he was going to get.
“Well, if I had to describe you in one word,” she paused noticing how he quirked up slightly at that, “I’d say…” and that was how she ended up being trapped by his arms, victim to his kisses and fingertips digging into the flesh on her sides.
“I’m not annoying, love.” He said, finally loosening his grip on her, but when she made no effort to move he kept his arm draped loosely over her hips, keeping her back pushed against his chest.
“Lies,” she basically hissed the word at him leaving him with a cocky smirk that she had to strain her neck to see.
Because he was annoying.
It was literally just this morning that he had annoyed her.
“Draco,” her voice echoed throughout the house and Draco put down his spoon to yell back, “What?”
He was at the dining table, eating a second breakfast, and he swallowed his cereal as he heard her footsteps thundering down the stairs.
“Did I leave my lip balm down there?” Her voice was slightly less loud as she made her way to him, confident she had left it on the table when they ate breakfast together. Or, Draco’s first breakfast together.
Draco’s eyes didn’t take long to land on the cylinder, stood up right in front of where his pretty wife had been sitting minutes ago. He quickly snatched it into his hand, securing it in his palm before she appeared in front of him.
“Haven’t seen it,” he mumbled, grabbing his spoon in his free hand to shove more cereal in his mouth, hoping it would prevent him from giving himself away.
“Really?” She asked, making her way over to the kitchen, “I could’ve sworn I left it here.” He could hear her moving around various objects and sighing when she gave up and moved to the living room.
“It’s literally just a white cylinder, are you sure you haven’t seen it?” She made her voice louder to reach him from the other room where he could hear her rummaging around the lounge, no doubt seeing if it had fallen into one of the many crevices. Why? He wasn’t sure. She hadn’t been there this morning.
“I know what your lip balm looks like,” he replied moodily. He heard her huff and when he looked back up from his bowl she was standing in front of him. Good to see she could be quiet when she wanted to be.
“You have it.”
“What?” Draco dropped his spoon again, said lip balm burning a hole through his palm.
“You have it.” And within seconds she was directly in front of him. But Draco was quicker and he had risen to his full height, putting his traitorous hand behind him as his chair made a loud scraping noise against their floor.
“Show me your hand.” She moved to grab his hand hiding behind his back but he turned so she couldn’t reach.
“You need to work on your reflexes, babe.”
“You need to stop acting like a child, babe,” she mimicked.
She had her hands folded across her chest, hoping to catch him by surprise when she made to move again.
He was looking down at her with a horrid smirk, her squinted eyes and downward curve of her lips only serving to make it stronger.
“Give it to me,” she whined, suddenly making a move to grab it. Draco had let his guard down ever so slightly, distracted by her pretty face and this time when she went to grab it, her fingers brushed his knuckle.
But Draco needed to make sure she couldn’t reach it so this time, his arm went above his head and he knew it was the right move when she whined once more, “Draco.” She dragged out the last vowel of his name and made a slight movement that looked like her stamping her foot in the ground in annoyance.
“Why are you like this?”
Draco only shrugged his shoulders, making her huff as she brought her arms around her chest once more.
When he didn’t say anything, she continued.
“I’m not going to beg for it.”
“But you sound so pretty when you do.” She scoffed at him and his stupid smirk and his stupid lanky height that meant there was no way for her to reach it without jumping. And even that would be a stretch.
“Draco Malfoy, I swear-“ but she never finished because he got an awful twinkle in his eye when she said his full name and she wasn’t having it. She took a step towards him and reached to the very tip of her toes to try and grab it.
Her hand only reached his wrist.
“You’re such a child.” She groaned, straining to reach even further. Draco brought his head back slightly to look at her determined face trying to and grab the lip balm, still secure in his palm.
She gave up trying to reach and instead wrapped her fingers around his wrist and tried with all her might to drag it down.
She let out a soft groan that made Draco chuckle.
“Maybe if you’d ask nicely I’d give it to you.”
Draco was sure the devil himself had taken the place of his pretty wife with the dirty look he was on the receiving end of.
“Draco,” she said, dropping her hold on his wrist and taking the tiniest of steps back.
“Yes, my love.”
“Can I please have my lip balm?” Her voice was steady and Draco knew that she was fighting her own mind not to scream and shout until she got her way.
“Well, because you asked so nicely.” He dropped his hand, but still put it behind his back as he lent down to press a soft kiss to her pouting lips.
When he pulled back she was giving him an impatient look, her palm out, waiting for him to give it back to her.
Still smirking, he put it in her hand, quickly pulling his hand away when her fingers wrapped around it and she snatched it away. Huffing as she made her way back up the stairs.
“A thank you would be nice,” Draco yelled out, going back to his soggy cereal and chuckling when a string of profanities floated all the way to his ears.
She was quick to remind him of this incident now that they were in bed and Draco still stood by the fact that he was not annoying.
“Well, I wouldn’t say that was annoying,” he argued, with her back still against his chest. She rolled her eyes, grateful that he couldn’t see.
“I would.”
“I was just teasing,” he insisted and she scoffed. “You know I would’ve given it back to you.”
He was partially right, he did like to tease her, but teasing her was annoying.
It was only that weekend that that had gone to a house party with some friends from high school. Everyone was taking advantage of the summer months, and most of them were sitting outside, enjoying the warmth of the late afternoon without the sun blaring down on them.
She had been inside for the last hour or so, trying to avoid any red flesh and catching up with some old friends, but when the noticed the guilty star had left the sky, they started to make their way out.
She noticed immediately that there weren’t going to be enough chairs, so she happily made her way over to Draco and sat on his lap.
He was halfway through a conversation with someone and even though he didn’t explicitly acknowledge her presence, he still manoeuvred his body so she could make herself comfortable. And once she stopped wriggling all over him, he wrapped his arms around her waist.
She was happy sitting there, sipping her drink, laughing at whatever her friends said, and enjoying the way the scent of her boyfriend overtook her senses.
Halfway through one of their stories she felt something crawling on her arm and with a quiet groan she twitched in Draco’s lap, flicking the intruder away.
“What’s wrong, lovey?” Draco bent down to whisper in her ear so as not to disrupt the conversation and draw attention to them.
“The bugs are eating me alive,” she huffed, repositioning herself so she was half draped over his lap.
“Can’t blame them,” he pressed a soft kiss to her shoulder, “you taste so good.”
She gave him an unimpressed look and the edge of his lips quirked up in a familiar smirk before their attentions went back to the conversation.
Every now and then she’d twitch whenever a crawling trespasser appeared on her skin. Each instance followed by a huff and a sigh from the pretty girl resting on Draco’s lap.
Draco was trying his best to defend his girlfriend, removing his hand from her waist to wave it around anytime a bug even dared to look at her and keeping a loose arm around her so she could wriggle and swat away whenever she pleased. But for some reason, the bugs had chosen his pretty girl to annoy tonight, and no one was as in tune with her annoyance as he was.
That’s why he thought what he was about to do was risky. She was already annoyed, but it wasn’t at the hands of him, so he figured he’d do it anyway.
When the conversation had started to die down and people turned to the others around them, starting their own private conversations, Draco turned down to his wife and started a conversation with her.
She was happily chatting away, and Draco was listening intently. He promised. But when she got towards the end of her sentence and took a breath, Draco purposefully furrowed his eyebrows together.
He noticed immediately the increase of diameter of her pretty eyes and the way she froze ever so slightly in his lap.
“What’s that?” He asked, flicking his head up in the direction of her own.
“What’s what?” Her voice had risen an octave and Draco was glad the rest of the group were talking over each other loud enough to drown her out.
“That,” Draco said again, subtly taking his hand away from the valley of her spine. “I think,” he paused and got the desired effect with the look of fright she was giving him, “there’s a,” she was frozen on his lap, “a bug on you.” And as he finished the world’s longest sentence his fingertips found her neck and a tiny squeal left her lips as she contorted her body into his, naive to think she’d find safety with him.
She could feel his whole body shake as he let out a strong laugh, his arms returning around her waist and locking her into his grasp as he pressed a kiss to the top of her head.
“I hate you so much.”
Draco could feel her pulse and he almost felt bad for causing her such annoyance, but when she strained her neck to frown at him, a hard crease between her pretty eyes, he couldn’t help the boyish smirk that enveloped his face.
“Liar,” he retorted, not missing the way she clung to him when she thought there was danger.
“I apologised for that,” Draco whined, now in bed. Similarly pressing a kiss to the top of her head as she recalled just how annoying his teasing was.
He did feel bad for it. He didn’t think it would upset her that much. He just wanted to upset her slightly.
“Still annoying,” she grumbled, refusing to look back up at him.
“C’mon,” Draco continued, a tinge of a whine tainting his tone, “you love being teased.”
She rolled her eyes at his poor attempt of a double entendre.
But this time he was telling the truth.
It was only last week when this had occurred.
They had only been married for a couple of months after almost a year of being engaged, but their house was in the works the second Draco proposed to her so they would have somewhere to go when a permanent gold band rested where their fourth finger on their left hand came in contact with the knuckle.
Draco was at her house, going over the plans to ensure she was happy with anything. She was listening. Partly. She trusted Draco.
"Oh," he added as well, knowing that he didn't have her complete attention, "we also have to decide if we want a pool."
"Obviously," she scoffed, knowing by the way that the corner of his mouth tugged upward that he was just trying to get her involved.
Because Draco knew he wanted a pool, and he was glad for it when they woke up to the sun peaking through their window, waking them up and inviting them to join it outside while they played in the pool.
Draco was already in, unbothered by the wait of his pretty wife who took slightly longer to get ready. And the wait was worth it when she came out in a two-piece which Draco really thought was an overstatement considering how little of her was covered.
She swayed her hips on purpose, noticing the slight part in her husband's pretty lips, doing a faux pose when she reached the pool that made Draco clear his throat.
"You look good."
"I know," she beamed at him cheekily, throwing her towel on the chair next to his and tying her hair up in a high bun. "I'm not in the mood to get my hair wet today, I'm too lazy to wash it."
Draco didn't say anything, but she didn't give it a second thought knowing that his eyes were preoccupied.
Draco floated over to the stairs as she made her way in, letting out a little squeal as her feet touched the first step.
"It's so cold!"
"You can't be serious." Draco let out a small chuckle as she placed her weight from one foot to the other.
"I'm very serious, Draco," she whined, finding the courage to go to the next step.
It was up to her calves, and she was going against the water as she kicked her legs out, trying to acclimatise to the new temperature.
Draco, already knowing he consequences of his actions, placed his hands in the water and flicked it over at her.
"Draco!" She had put her hands out in a poor attempt to save herself from his attack and bent a leg up towards herself in some sort of defence.
He laughed.
"Stop being such a baby." She gave him a pout that very much reminded him of a baby.
But she took no note of her husband’s rude comments and instead put her hands in the water to splash him back.
“C’mon, yours was much bigger than mine.” Draco rolled his eyes, running a hand through his now wet hair and putting his hands back in the water.
“Draco Malfoy if you dare-”
She was already folding in on herself, but she never felt the splash or got to finish her statement because Draco had cut her off.
“C’mon darling, I promise I won’t splash you if you just get in.”
She put her hands down slowly, not sure how much she should trust the blonde haired boy giving her a sly grin.
“I don’t trust you,” she said, her actions betraying her words as she took another step down. It reached just above her bottom piece and Draco heard her take a sharp breath in as a couple of goosebumps erupted on her lotioned skin.
One more step to go.
“I promise I won’t splash you.” He had an odd look of sincerity on his face, but she made sure to keep eye contact with him as she placed her hands in the water and brought them to the tops of her shoulders in an attempt to let her body become familiar with the cool liquid.
She went to the next step. She took in a shaky breath, moving on the spot in a hurried motion to try to bring some warmth to her body.
“One more step, love, c’mon.” Draco opened his arms in an attempt to get her into his embrace.
“I swear, Draco, if you splash me,” she trailed off, letting her foot fall off the last step and pushing her body towards his arms.
He grabbed onto her, his hands roaming around her hips as he bent his head down to press a kiss to her pretty lips.
“Yeah,” he said, pulling away with a slight breathlessness, “you’ll what?” He lent back to kiss her, unashamed, he knew he was in trouble the second he saw her enter the backyard in her little bikini that didn’t leave a lot to his imagination.
“I-I’ll,” she forced herself to pull away even though she wanted nothing more than to kiss her pretty husband until their skin shrivelled from the water. But Draco had other plans, because when she was looking at him, a soft look in her eyes from the way he had kissed her, he decided this was the perfect time.
His fingers locked around her waist and the last thing he saw was her pretty eyes widen as he pulled her under the water with him.
He knew he’d never hear the end of it the second he brought them to the surface and she let out a couple of dramatic coughs.
“Are you trying to kill me?” She shrieked, blinking the water out of her eyes and pushing his shoulders ever so slightly with the butt of her palm. His arms were still locked around her waist and he had no intention of letting go.
All he did was laugh in response, flicking his blonde hair out of his eyes and leaning down to pepper kisses all over her slimey face. All he could taste was her sunscreen and she kept twisting in his grasp and trying to pull her face away from him, but he continued his attack bravely.
“Hey,” he said, letting out a chuckle despite the grumpy look on her pretty face, “I only promised not to splash you.”
She wanted to scream. Instead, she splashed him back.
“Well, I never promised not to splash you.” She said indignantly in a way that reminded Draco of a child.
“Ah,” he said, much too arrogantly for her taste, “is that how you want to play?” He removed his hands around her waist to splash at her, but even though she knew what was coming, she didn’t step away from him.
“Nuh uh,” she whined, turning her head to avoid the water coming into contact with her face, “you promised you wouldn’t splash me.”
“Well, I take it back.” It was then she decided that she hated Draco’s height. She used to admire it, loved how he towered over almost anyone in any room. But now, she came to realise that his arms were much too long, because before she even got the chance to splash him back he had reached out and grabbed onto her hips, pulling her closer to him and bringing her with him under the water once more.
This time she gave him a good shove on the shoulder while they were under the water, but she wondered if Draco even noticed with the way his hands were squeezing her hips and grabbing at her flesh.
It was only when he brought them to the surface that she realised he was trying to find the string keeping her bikini bottom up and once again, she cursed his long fingers for quickly untying the double knot.
“Draco!” Her hands left his shoulders to grab onto her swimmers before Draco got any other ideas, but Draco was quick and in one swift movement he grabbed both of her hands in his.
She wriggled against him, but movement only made the swimmers pull away from her skin so instead she gave him a defeated look.
He was laughing manically, his chest rumbling at her predicament and the pretty pout that was gracing her pretty lips.
In another swift movement he turned her around so her back was against his chest and her hands were still locked up in Draco’s large hand jail, but the movement was not her friend because with his other free hand, Draco had grabbed the traitorous bottom and thrown it out of the pool, quick to bring it to the front and give her top the same treatment.
He was taking his time, kissing all over her neck, trying to get her to succumb to his pleasures, but she was strong-willed and it was only the way her voice gave a slight tremble at the end of her sentence that gave her away.
“You’re so annoying.”
Draco was now kissing her neck in a similar fashion, but she wasn’t going to give in.
“Thought you liked it then?” He teased, his voice low from the late hour and soft due to their proximity.
“I mean it was alright.” Draco could tell by the slight quiver of her voice and lack of comeback that his little neck kisses were getting to her.
“Do you want to try another word, darling?”
But while the kisses may have softened her, she was still able to respond with, “romantic.”
Because he was.
The only reason she was looking for her lip balm was because he was taking her out for lunch.
And when she came down, all dressed up for him, she twirled on the spot, loving the soft look in his eyes compared to the mischievous twinkle he had worn trying to get a reaction out of her.
They were sitting across from each other and when she rested her hand on the table, Draco took it in his own and neither arm was strong enough to move from its position.
While they waited for the server to come over, she used her free hand to rifle through her bag and when she found the desired lipstick and started putting it on, Draco squinted his eyes at her.
“What?”
“I want to ask you a question.” She gave a seconds pause before putting her lipstick away and facing her pretty husband.
“I’m scared.”
He disregarded her comment and asked, “what’s in your bag?”
“My bag?” She gave him a confused look, losing the warmth of his palm as she grabbed her bag for a second time. The very expensive bag Draco had bought for her only a month or so ago because she had made a trivial comment about how pretty it was when they first walked past it.
She opened it and showed it to him, he was her husband, she had nothing to hide.
Draco liked what he saw. Lipstick, a little mirror, the perfume she usually wore in a small cylindrical glass, and the lip balm he had teased her about this morning.
“What if I forgot the card at home?” he chuckled, his smile only intensifying at the confused look on his pretty girl’s face.
“The credit card?”
“What other card, darling?” The smirk on his face told her he was telling a fib, but she still asked, “did you?”
She never got her response though as the server politely interrupted the conversation, causing her to close her bag back up and listen to Draco repeat what she had told him she wanted from the menu.
The fact that he was ordering told her all she needed to know about the card situation, but she still continued the conversation as if there had been no interruption.
“In all honesty, I stopped bringing money with me after, like, our second month of going out.”
This made Draco let out a laugh that was an inappropriate volume given their surroundings, but the couple didn’t notice.
When Draco calmed down, he put his hand back on the table and she reached out to hold onto it.
“Good,” he said, bringing their intertwined hands towards him to press a row of soft kisses along her knuckles.
When he had frightened her over the bug situation, he kissed and doted on her the rest of the afternoon, feeling bad that he had upset her so greatly.
When her cup was empty he placed her on his seat and went inside to fill it back up for her. Lifting her back onto his lap when he returned.
When they arrived home he had her silk robe waiting for her the second her foot stepped out of the shower and he happily had her sit on the edge of the bathtub as he completed her skincare.
“You know,” she said, giving him the saddest look she could muster, “I was so scared when you pretended there was a bug on me, it really tired me out, I don’t think I can do my skincare.” He let out a large scoff, even though she was still frowning, giving him a faux innocent look with her silk robe wrapped tightly around her.
“C’mere,” he was sitting on the edge of the bathtub but reached out to grab her fingertips, bringing her closer to him so he could sit her on the edge next to him, “you big baby.”
And even after he played with her pretty hair until she fell asleep, he still felt bad. He let out a sigh as he begrudgingly got out of the comfortable bed and once he was outside of their room he called for the house elf and instructed him to get a bunch of her favourite flowers before they woke up.
Draco found that he fell asleep quite easily after he had settled that matter and his arms were wrapped around the waist of his pretty wife.
But he was disgruntled when he woke up hours later to find said pretty wife sitting on the edge of the bed, a small white card in her hand that he assumed belonged to the bunch of her favourite flowers that the house elf had delivered.
He lazily trailed his fingertips down her spine, enjoying the way she jolted at his touch.
“Come back to bed, lovey.” When she put the card down and turned around she found Draco’s arm sprawled out to the side from where he had let it linger on her skin. His eyes were still closed and his hair was sticking on his forehead.
She leant over to smooth it away from his pretty face and when he brought his arm back up she gingerly found her way back to him, his arm coming back down the second he was satisfied she was comfortable.
And it was after they christened the pool that she started to whine about her wet hair.
“I told you I didn’t want to wash it.” Draco wished he had a couple more minutes before her attitude came back, but was quick to remember he was the reason she was in a mood and so he kept that thought to himself.
She was behind him while Draco swam to the edge to receive the two pieces he had meanly thrown out of reach.
“I’m not getting them,” she had scoffed at his reply when she said she needed her swimmers back to which Draco pointed to the edge of the pool where they were sprawled haphazardly. “I’m naked,” she whispered as if it was a sin worse than what had just occurred in their own swimming pool.
“I’ll wash it for you,” he grumbled throwing her swimmers at her. She wasn’t quick enough to grab them so they floated on the surface of the water. She picked up the bottoms and started tying the knots in the appropriate places.
“Really?” She asked, Draco already swimming back to her, picking her top up and redoing the knots he had cruelly untied moments before.
“Of course my love.”
And that was how she found herself sitting in between his legs, warm water filling their bathtub with rose petals tickling her calves and the smoke of a coconut candle making its way into her nose.
She let out a hum as Draco’s fingertips circled her scalp. She let her head fall back so she could look up at him and he was quick to place a quick kiss on her forehead before gently pushing her head up so he could continue his service.
“You spoil me.” Draco liked when she whined and pouted and screeched whenever he found a new way to annoy her, but more than anything he loved the content in her tone knowing that he would always look after her. No matter how much he annoyed her.
“Romantic sounds better,” Draco hummed, leaning down to press some more kisses along her jaw.
But she was brave and she pulled away so she could turn around and face her lovely husband.
She ran a hand through his hair, making it stick up in a way that brought a grin to what Draco thought was her precious face.
How lucky she was, really, to have such a beautiful husband. Who, despite his teasing, made sure that she was treated like royalty. Who would never let her worry about a single thing if he had his way and who made sure she knew he loved her, even if he liked to annoy her. Who called her beautiful even when she called him annoying.
“And handsome,” she whispered, bringing her hand to his soft cheek, not missing the way he leaned into her touch, “so handsome.”

*i literally cannot find it but please refer to that scene where timothee chalamet pulls that girls hair in lady bird*
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
The first time Regulus pulled her hair she was barely five years old. He was of similar age and their mothers were friends and they were no stranger to the occasional playdate.
And most times they got along, but like all children, sometimes neither of them knew how to deal with the big emotions they were feeling.
That was why, when she snatched the ball Regulus was playing with out of his hands and exclaimed it was her turn, the only way Regulus knew how to deal with the hot feeling rising up to his cheeks was by walking over to her and letting his thoughts take over.
He pulled her hair
He’d never pulled a girl’s hair before. His clammy palms wrapped around the loose ends swaying around her shoulder and he tugged until she let out a scream and then he immediately let go.
Of course, the mothers rushed out to console the red cheeked little girl and scold the shamed little boy and Regulus was forced to apologise. He felt bad. He really did. He didn’t mean to make her cry. He just wanted the ball back.
So Regulus learnt that day that pulling someone’s hair was wrong. And fortunately, they remained friends.
They were both sorted into Slytherin and they were both part of the same friend group. But everyone knew that their friendship was different to the bond they shared with everyone else in the group.
They were kids when the hair pulling accident happened, and honestly, neither of them had thought about it since.
Until their sixth year. She was sitting in the library with her friends, waiting for Regulus and Evan to make an appearance. It was a cold Saturday morning and she was so enthralled in the conversation she was having with the girl sitting next to her that she didn’t even notice Evan and Regulus walk in until Regulus walked behind her.
And pulled her hair.
It was tied up in a ponytail and he yanked it so her neck fell back, mainly due to the surprise of the movement. She let out a noise of shock as his nimble fingers wrapped around the soft strands and gave it a quick tug.
She squinted her eyes at him as she quickly undid her hair and combed through it with her fingers, putting it back in place after it had been messed up.
“You’re an ass,” she said, but Regulus only smirked at her in response, quickly changing the subject, but letting his eyes linger on her for a moment more before turning to Evan sitting next to him.
So it really was no wonder that the next year they started dating.
It was their last day at Hogwarts and they were sitting out by the Black Lake, trying to take everything in before it all became a fuzzy memory.
Regulus was sitting against a tree, his legs sprawled around the pretty girl sitting cross legged in front of him.
The rest of their friends were sprawled out under the shade of the tree, laughing and reminiscing, and promising that they would remain friends after they left the gates of Hogwarts.
There was a small lull in the conversation as their laughs died out and when Evan went to start it back up again with a random story from their third year, Regulus was overcome with the urge to kiss her.
So he pulled her hair.
He tugged at the roots so her head would fall back and hit his shoulder and before she could let out a noise of surprise, he brought his lips to hers.
She was uncomfortable, turning her neck to reach his soft lips, but she didn’t mind. Besides, this was one of the rare times their friends weren’t commenting on their PDA, so she took the opportunity to enjoy the kiss.
When Regulus slowly pulled away, she turned back around and ran her hands through her hair, putting it back in place.
“You could have just asked,” she grumbled so only Regulus could hear. But she had turned around and couldn’t see the stupid smirk he was wearing.
It wasn’t until they were both pushing nineteen though that Regulus pulled her hair and she enjoyed it.
Her arms were about to give way on the soft mattress as Regulus pushed his hips relentlessly inside of her.  She buried her face into the thin sheet, letting out a low groan as her arms continued to shake even without the weight she was holding.
Regulus was grunting behind her, his pace steady before he let his thoughts take over and reached a hand out.
To pull her hair.
Before she could even think about it a low groan left her lips as she moaned out Regulus’ name. She could hear him chuckle from behind her.
It was only a gentle tug, but she squeezed around him when he stopped his movements to bring his head closer to hers, his hands still tugging tightly at the roots of her hair from the back of her head to bring her face closer to his.
“Don’t tell me my sweet girl likes it when I pull her hair?” He asked, making her whine at his condescending tone. He tsked. “Answer me, pretty girl.”
She paused before her mouth finally caught up to her brain and she answered his question. “I do,” she exclaimed, “I like it when you pull my hair.”
Regulus kissed the top of her forehead before letting her hair go gently and continuing his movements.
“Good girl.”
Now, Regulus’ hands were often found in her hair.
She liked when he played with ends or when he tried to braid it, and she liked when he tugged at it.
It was a few years into their relationship when they were getting ready for a party with their old friends from Hogwarts. Regulus had gone over to her house to get ready and when she came out wearing his favourite dress he found himself walking over to her.
“Do you like it?” She asked, her tone dripping in faux innocence.
“I think you already know the answer, my love.”
In a few quick strides Regulus was already standing in front of her. She knew what she was doing when she put this dress on which was why she didn't mind her nervous tick of swaying on the spot under Regulus’ intense gaze.
“You know what you’re doing,” Regulus pouted, making her giggle.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” she shrugged.
“Do you really have to look this good all the time, darling? You know I don’t like people thinking they can have what’s mine.”
She rolled her eyes at his speech, but stood still in front of him. Mainly because she was forced to.
Regulus had pulled her hair.
She was forced to look up at him, her breath caught in her throat as she stared up into his grey eyes.
“Don’t be bratty,” he tsked, his long fingers entwined in her hair.
“What’s the fun in being good?” She asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
He laughed, his eyes squinting down at her, but his lips tugging upward in an amused nature.
“You’re going to be the death of me.”

♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
If Theodore Nott had his way, people would stop calling him controlling. Okay, maybe there had been times where he had lied and deceived to get his way, and sure, he was quick to rise to temper which often made people just agree with him, but it was just because he always knew what was best.
He had first said this thought outloud to the pretty girl he had been dating during their seventh year at Hogwarts and after two years of being with him, she felt comfortable enough to scoff at his words.
“Because you know what’s best?” They had just left Draco Malfoy’s and Theo was driving her home.
His eyes flickered to hers and back to the road, astounded that she had the audacity to scoff at him.
“Well, yeah.” The only reason they were having this conversation was because of something stupid Draco had said.
“You need another drink,” Draco had said as soon as he noticed the girl sitting on Theo’s lap had an empty cup in her hand.
“Ooh, yes please.”
“No, she doesn’t.”
She turned to look at her frowning boyfriend and gave him a look to match his.
“Theo,” she had whined.
“You’ve already drank enough, if you drink something else, you’ll get sick.” He had sat up to whisper in her ear and there was a piece of her deep down that knew he was right. She was currently happy and drunk and she had drunk that last drink quite fast. Another would probably move her to the next level of drunk that she did not want nor need for a casual get together with friends.
“I might have one a bit later, Draco, thank you.” Theo slouched back down, happy with the compromise.
“Merlin, Nott,” Draco scoffed, “you keep her on a tight leash.”
Theo suddenly wasn’t slouching anymore nor was she sitting on his lap.
“You were happy and drunk, another drink only would have made you feel worse.”
She took a deep breath and bit her tongue as they came to a red light. It casted a shadow on Theo’s face as he turned to look at her. He kept one hand on the steering wheel but brought the other to give the flesh of the thigh closest to him a squeeze. He left it there as she sighed.
“I’m not saying you’re wrong, I’m just saying you’re controlling.”
His gaze wasn’t harsh, but it still let her know that he wasn’t happy with her response.
She did her best to change her face in a way that would please the boy who had a small tick in his jaw. She widened her eyes and wet her lips, sinking into her seat slightly and glancing at the large hand still sprawled over the top of her thigh.
“I didn’t say I didn’t like it.”
That made his gaze soften.
It was true.
She had been in the same house as Theo for seven years when she first started dating him and had been in the same circle for the same time.
She had seen him yell at first years to get out of their spot, she had seen him lead all of their group projects and she had seen him get angry with new people on the Quidditch team because they couldn’t understand his new formation.
But she had only really realised this in their sixth year during the Sytherin’s annual end of year celebration. There was a bottle of firewhiskey and a deck of cards that Theo was currently dealing.
She had known amost since their first day that Theodore Nott was attractive, but it wasn’t until a couple of months ago that she had decided that she was going to do something about it. And doing her best to make sure she was in his line of site at all times, she had somehow ended up next to him in the circle, trying to keep up with the rules he was currently explaining to her.
“-and if you don’t, you drink. Does that make sense?” She was nodding even though she was still caught up on the first rule he had started with.
He had finished dealing and was looking down at her in a way that told her he knew she was lying.
She didn’t mind.
Nor did she mind when he said, “how about I help you for the first round?”
And she wasn’t surprised either when it was her second turn and she had been staring at her cards for less than thirty seconds before he grabbed them out of her hands and said, “here, let me have a look.”
It reminded her of how he’d grab the parchment out of anyone’s hands whenever he didn’t trust them to write in enough detail for their group tasks.
“Play this one,” he had said, already throwing down her card before he handed her deal back to her.
She didn’t really mind this. She still chose to date him halfway through their last year and it wasn’t until the next year’s celebration that she came to the realisation that she even kinda liked it.
She was sitting in his lap and he had a cigarette in his mouth. He tried to blow it away from her but sometimes it would waft back and she would try to stop her nose from scrunching up. Their relationship was still too new for that.
She blamed the red plastic cup in her hand for the reason she asked, “Can I have a go?”
Theodore had been laughing at something Blaise said, but in the second he had turned down to look at her, Blaise had turned to Pansy and she took his opportunity to nod at the cigarette in the hand that wasn’t gripping her waist.
The chucke lines on his pretty face smoothed out and he let his hand drop as he immediately said, “No.”
She pouted at him.
“Why not?” She was giggling and she wasn’t entirely sure why, it did nothing to change the harsh angles of his jawline nor the serious look she was now on the receiving end of.
“They’re not good for you.”
“You do it.”
“That’s different.”
She giggled again, giving him a faux confused look at his contradiction.
“Please,” she whined. She really had no desire to smoke said cigarette, she just wanted to see where this would go.
“No,” he said, “end of discussion.”
There was a fluttering in her tummy and Theodore wasn’t entirely sure what it meant, but he didn’t miss the way her body gave a slight twitch at his words.
And in his defence, after seeing that boy with a cigarette in his hand almost everyday for the last couple of years, she could count the times she had seen smoke blow from his pretty mouth on one hand since that incident even if his clothes stil smet like smoke.
But it wasn’t until that night that they had spoken about it. And it was hard to tell whether that small confession in Theo’s car had changed the amount of control he usually used over her.
As shown by the events that had led up to that conversation, Theo had always kept her on a tight leash at parties.
“I just care about you, s’all,” he’d shrug when she gave him a pout everytime he cut off her drinking.
“Come straight back though,” he’d instruct when she’d get up from her designated seat (his lap) and go with Pansy to the bathroom.
“Stay where I can see you,” he’d whisper when she went to go join Pansy on the dance floor.
And he was even worse when he wasn’t at said party.
It had been three years since they started dating, over a year since the conversation in his car and a few of her friends from her work had convinced her to join them in testing the new club that had opened in Diagon Alley.
When she came out in a tight back dress that rested just below the flesh of her bum, she didn’t even react when she saw the muscle jump in her boyfriends jaw. He had come over to hers to annoy her while she was getting ready.
“I’m not annoying,” he had scowled when she said this to him.
He was driving her in and he only came early so he could make sure he knew exactly what the night would entail.
“You don’t like it?” He was sitting on her bed and she made her way over to him, nudging his knees with her own so she could stand in between his legs. His hands rested happily on her hips, rubbing the fabric of her dress he wished wasn’t covering her pretty skin.
When she let out a playful giggle he tore his hands away, only to bring them back to make a loud slapping noise as he brought them down on the flesh of her bum. She squealed as he continued to give it a tight squeeze making her body draw closer to his.
“You know I love this dress,” he whispered over her small gigges, “and I don’t care when I’m there, people know not to mess with me.” She wanted to roll her eyes at his corny words, but refrained knowing she was already pushing his buttons by wanting to wear this dress. “But I won’t be there tonight, baby.”
His voice was soft and she was letting herself melt into his touch. His hands were now rubbing the fabric covering the flesh he had tortured and she was feeling content.
Which was why she was sure she had gotten whiplash when he said, “So go change.”
He was using the same tone he had used when he told her that he wasn’t going to let her smoke. She could almost hear him say, ‘end of discussion.’
She turned her head to look at him, her mouth slightly agape in shock at the change in her boyfriend but he kept his gaze firm and she was quite dumbfounded at what had just happened so she kissed the top of his head and moved herself out of his embrace to go change.
She hadn’t thought too much about what she was wearing. She had only been out without Theo a handful of times and she had never had to worry about what she wore, only ever choosing what she felt best in at that moment in time.
She came out in another black dress, but this time it was longer.
“How’s this?” She had asked when she came out to show Theo again.
“Better.” He stood up this time to walk over to her.
When he was standing in front of her he placed the palm of his hands under her jaw, his thumbs resting on her cheeks. His palms were soft and warm and she let her head sink into his touch.
“If anyone bothers you, you know I’ll be there straight away.”
“I know,” she said, going on her tippy toes to place a gentle kiss on his lips. And she was truly grateful for that.
In the car, Theo continued.
“Message me as soon you’re ready, I’ll be there straight away. Cover your drink. If you feel even sightly off, just let me know. Trust your intuition. If you go anywhere else, let me know as well. And if anyone-”
“Gives me trouble I’ll let you know.” They were parked outside the club, but the car was still on. Theo turned his head to raise a questioning eyebrow at her.
“Don’t be a brat.”
“I’m sorry,” she sighed, “I know you’re just looking out for me, I promise I’ll keep you updated the whole night.”
“Good girl,” he mumbled as she leaned over to kiss him.
“I love you.”
“I love you pretty girl, have fun.” And what that, she slammed the door.
He watched her walk over to her friends and then began his drive back home.
The whole drive home his mind was full of worry for the pretty girl he had just left barely seconds ago.
What if something happened to her? Whenever he was there he made sure she could let her guard down and of course, he trusted her and knew she was more than capable, but he couldn’t help himself.
When he got home he sent her a message.
‘home x’
‘did you get in okay?’
He stared down at the two bubbles that had come from his phone. He tried to get his mind off it.
He got out a book, but all he was doing was looking at words, he wasn’t comprehending anything.
Five minutes had passed.
‘my love’
‘please answer’
He tried to make himself a snack. But he found he wasn’t actuay hungry.
Ten minutes.
This wasn’t good enough. She needed to answer him. Did she not know that he was going crazy wondering about all the horrible things that could have happened to her?
He pulled out his phone and rang her number.
She didn’t answer.
He was seconds away from going there himself. He knew it was crazy, but there was a part of him that wanted to go in with her. Sit at a tabel by himself so she could have her fun and he could still keep an eye on her. But even he thought that might be going to far. Except now he knew that that was what he should have done all along.
He was twirling his keys in his hand, seconds away from going there himself when her pretty picture filled up his screen.
“Theo?”His heart started beating again when he heard her voice.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah, we were just on the dancefloor. I’m sorry.” And he could just imagine the sheepish look that was overtaking her pretty face.
“It’s okay my love, please just keep your phone on you, yeah?”
“Ok Theo,” she said, “I will, I promise. I love you.”
“I love you my girl.”
He waited until she hung up the phone and put his keys back down.
Now that he knew she was okay, he feared he may have been a bit dramatic. But he coudn’t help it.
He was sure that it had come from his father. His father who was quick to temper and was aways the leader in his group of friends. It wasn’t a trait he was proud of, but the pretty girl he called his girlfriend claimed not to mind and he had to trust her on that.
It was later that night that the discussion had been brought up once more since that night in his car after Draco’s party.
Theo had picked her up and she was tipsy in his bathroom taking her makeup off with the makeup wipes he had bought for her after a night out when she didn’t have anything to take her make up off and had whined the whole night.
“Be quiet, I’lll buy you some tomorrow.” He had grumbled when they were in bed and all he wanted to do was sleep after hearing her moan and groan for the last forty-five minutes.
“My friends thought it was weird when you rang me.” He wasn’t sure she really knew what she was saying, but her words still made him sit up in his bed where he was waiting for her to join.
“What do you mean?” Her eyes were closed as she stumbled back into the bathroom to put the wipes away. Theo had already dressed her in her pyjamas and he watched her stumble back to the bed to join him.
As she pulled the blanket up she giggled out, “They think it’s controlling.”
“What did you say?” He asked, turning to his side and putting his weight on his elbow so he was looking down at the pretty girl with her head on the pillow.
“I said,” her eyes were closed and she finally opened them to meet his, “you have no idea.”
Theo frowned and before he could move to turn the other way, her hand shot up and grabbed his jaw.
“You know I love it.”

It wasn’t until they first moved into their house that Draco realised she had a minor obsession with calling her father.
They had barely spent two nights in the new house when he was lying on their couch, The Daily Prophet in his hand as he tried to focus on the words printed in front of him. It was late at night so it took him a moment to realise that she was mumbling something from the kitchen.
Knowing she still wasn’t convinced about having a house elf, he couldn’t imagine that was who she would be talking to so he quickly put The Daily Prophet aside to see who she could be talking to at this hour.
“I think it might have something to do with the plumbing, but I’m not entirely sure.” He moved around the boxes they were still yet to unpack to find her sending a patronus.
“Dad,” she said, “I don’t know what to do.” She sent the patronus and when she turned around to find Draco watching her she smiled, making her way over to him and forcing herself into his arms.
“What’s up, my love?” He asked, immediately wrapping his arms around her and bringing her closer to him. She could smell the mint on his breath as she looked up at him, resting her chin on his chest as she did so.
“The hot water isn’t working,” she pouted.
“Can’t the house elf fix it?” It was a genuine question which was why he was mildly offended when she scoffed.
“The house elf is sleeping, I don’t want to wake him up.” She took a step back, the muscles in her neck tensing up at the awkward position.
“But waking your dad up is fine?”
She scoffed again, folding her arms over her chest.
“Do we even know if the house elf knows how to fix this? I know my dad does and he doesn’t go to sleep until later anyway.”
Draco had an amused look on his face that only made her frown deepen.
“Besides,” she said, feeling the need to continue, “you act as if my dad doesn’t love hearing from me.” She stuck her chin out at him in a childish manner making him playfully shake his head as he reached out to squeeze at the flesh on her hips. If there was one thing he knew to be true it was that James Potter would never complain about hearing from his daughter, no matter what time it was.
James didn’t come until the next morning. Much too early for Draco’s liking - not that he would ever admit that - but he thought this was all pretty normal. It was no surprise to him that he was at his daughter’s beck and call and he wasn’t at all shocked that she had chosen the help of her father over the help of a house elf knowing that she had not grown up with one and still wasn’t convinced they needed one.
And he wasn’t with his wife at every hour of the day, so he had no clue how often these calls to her father took place.
It wasn’t until a couple of months later that he heard her call her father again.
“Dad,” she said, not too quietly in the middle of the shop, “how much is too much for floo powder?” Draco was glad that she sent the patronus before he let out a snort.
Her head snapped towards him.
“What?”
“Are you serious?” He asked, knowing that she most definitely was.
“I don’t know what’s an appropriate price for floo powder.” They were standing in front of a bunch of different floo powders, with a large price range. If Draco was being honest, he too didn’t know the appropriate price for floo powder, but he just wanted to tease his wife about how reliant she was on her father, sue him.
“You could have asked me,” he teased.
“Please,” she scoffed, turning around to look back at the different types of floo powder. “We both know your house elf did that stuff.”
She was right and Draco didn’t have anything to say back, but fortunately, James Potter was quick to get back to his youngest child and he was saved by his patronus.
“The more expensive stuff will give you a smoother ride, but really, you’re just paying for the brand name. The cheaper stuff though often gets stuck in your throat so I’d go somewhere in the middle. Usually about a galleon a pound is pretty average, we always use Floo-Pow and it’s usually on special. Let me know if you need anything else, I love you lots.”
Draco couldn’t help the snigger that had escaped him which earnt him a mean glare from the pretty girl picking up a container of Floo-Pow.
Before she could put it in the basket, Draco snatched it out of her hand. She let out a sigh that Draco ignored and looked at him expectantly as he analysed the container.
“I don’t think we buy this one.”
“Well which one did you buy?”
Draco shrugged, “probably the most expensive one.” He put Floo-Pow back on the shelf and reached over her to grab one at the end of the shelf. “Wildsmith sounds familiar,” he muttered, putting it in the basket she was carrying.
“Hey,” she wined, “we don’t need the most expensive one.”
“Well I don’t know about you my love, but I want a smoother ride with nothing getting stuck in my throat.”
“But you’re just paying for the brand name,” she whined, as if this was something she had always known and had stood by her entire life.
“You’re literally just repeating what your dad said.” He couldn’t understand why she cared about the price of this anyway, it was not like she had to pay for it nor was money ever an issue in their relationship.
She shrugged her shoulders, taking out the container Draco had put in her basket and replacing it with the one her dad had recommended.
“Because he knows these things,” she explained, as if it was obvious. Draco knew that if he rolled his eyes he may not be able to call anyone his wife anymore so he refrained from doing so.
“Fine,” he grumbled, reaching back over her to grab the container she had put back in the wrong spot, “we get both and then decide which is better.”
“Deal.”
It was also no surprise to Draco that his wife thought that anything her father said was fact. Nor was he really surprised that she had sent a patronus to him for this. She valued his opinion and even if he loved to tease her about it, he knew what it was like to value the opinion of your father even for something as simple as floo powder.
But it was only later that day when she called for her father again. They were unpacking everything they had bought, placing both of their preferred floo powders on top of the mantle. Draco didn’t say anything when she didn’t call for the house elf to unpack the bags he had carried in and had asked him to help her unpack. But he had naturally assumed that she would be happy to let the house elf make them dinner.
But when he had suggested it her head had snapped towards him and suddenly she was taking long strides towards him and raking her fingernails up and down his chest, pouting up at him and whining that, “it would be so romantic if we cooked together though don’t you think so baby?”
James Potter’s daughter wasn’t used to hearing the word ‘no’ and Draco understood why. It was why he was listening to her tell the story about how her grandmother, James’ mother, always used to make this pasta dish that was ‘just her absolute favourite!’ and how she always made it whenever she new her son and his family were coming over because she knew that her granddaughter loved it.
“So you’ve been spoiled your whole life then?” Draco liked to tease her, but he genuinely liked the story. Pasta was her favourite food, and now he knew why.
She was cutting up a carrot and Draco had snaked his arms around her waist, letting his head fall into the nape of her neck.
“I can’t help that I was her only granddaughter.” She knew Draco was teasing, but she couldn’t help but grumble it out. “Besides,” she continued, a confident look on her face, “you’re one to talk.”
And he knew she was right.
Draco was happy to stay like this. Not only could he smell his favourite perfume that he always bought her, but she had just washed her hair and the ends were tickling the tips of his nose. And he knew that when she finished cutting the carrot, he would move and start helping her again, but he really just wanted a few more seconds in this position.
But all of a sudden she stopped moving and Draco pulled his head up to see what was wrong.
“Huh.” Was the only word that left her pretty lips before she was moving out of Draco’s grasp to go to the fire place.
Part of Draco was curious to see what she doing and the other part of him had nothing better to do but follow her, so that was what he did.
Without uttering a word to him, she knelt down on the ground and putting some of her floo powder in the fire, she quickly stuck her head in.
Draco was standing behind her. He couldn’t help but admire the curve of her back in her bent position, but the thought was quickly put to the back of his mind when she said, “Dad, finally, it took you long enough to answer.”
Draco was glad that her back was towards him so she couldn’t see the way his eyes rolled at her impatience. It had barely been a minute in James Potter’s defence.
“Sorry princess,” he could hear James say, “what’s up?”
“Dad,” she repeated as if this was an urgent matter, and Draco couldnt help thinking that given her sudden need to call her father, it was. “What wine did Gradma have with that pasta she always made me?”
Draco couldn’t believe it. She didn’t even like wine! Sure, she drank it when there was nothing else available, but he had never seen her drink wine willingly and he knew that she was not going to be drinking any wine tonight. Was this really that urgent?
He was so caught up in his thoughts that he didn’t even hear James reply, but he did hear them say goodbye and watch her stand back up, a beaming smile on her face.
“I can’t believe I forgot that!”
Draco, like the good husband he was, prompted her to tell him more about her experiences with her grandmother, but really, he was just trying to understand why it was so important she just had to call her father for a question that could have been answered at any time.
Draco had seen his wife call or complain to her father about very frivolous things. When they were just boyfriend and girlfriend and Draco would spend dinner at their house in Godric’s Hollow, he once made a joke to her that if he drank everytime the word, Dad!’ left her mouth, he wouldn’t be able to walk straight for a month.
They were sitting on the family lounge, just the two of them after she had made her father make Harry move. ‘Dad! Harry’s being annoying and won’t leave us alone.”
He was sitting with his back leant against the back of the lounge and she was sitting crosslegged, facing him, playing with the tips of his fingers. But when he got out his ‘joke’ she dropped his hand and stared at him dumbfounded for a solid five seconds before she yelled out, ‘Dad!’ She kept eye contact with him. ‘Draco’s being mean to me.’
But he thought that when they moved out together she would grow independent. Or that she would at least start to rely on him rather than her father, but he quickly learnt that that was not going to happen anytime soon.
It was only a couple days later when their owl brought their mail. She had taken it from the owl, given it a little treat and was now giving Draco a run down of the letters they had received.
“This one’s from your mum,” she said, passing him a letter. “This one’s from your work.” She gave him another. “This one is for me.” She put it to the side. Draco was watching her go through the letters and his eyebrows furrowed together when she paused at the next one. He watched her open it and read it intently. And then he watched her send a patronus to her father. “Dad,” she said, “do we really need floo insurance?”
Draco knew that now that they had their own floo network, they would have to get floo insurance, but he bit his tongue, not wanting to start a fight on their one morning this week together. But really, if she had just taken two seconds to tell him what the letter was about he would have told her that he was already in talk with the insurance company and they only needed the paperwork to be processed before the insurance was finalised. Sure, Draco could have told her this before but he didn’t think it was something she was interested in and he didn’t want her to worry about it.
No, he was going to tell her. They could talk about this. They were adults.
Draco went to open his mouth to tell her that he needed to start trusting him more than her dad because he had already sorted it out, but he was cut off by the one and only James Potter. Well, his patronus.
“Good morning princess, yes, you should have floo insurance. Draco should know what to do, but if he isn’t sure let me know and I’ll help you set it up. I love you lots.”
“Do you know what to do?”
Draco didn’t mean for his spoon to clank so loudly against his bowl, but it did and he couldn’t take it back.
“Does it matter? I’m sure you’d feel better if your dad did it anyway.”
She frowned at his words.
“What do you mean?”
“Nothing,” he sighed, “I’m sorry I shouldn’t have snapped. I’ve already dealt with the floo insurance, it should all be processed by Tuesday.”
“Who did you go with? Were they cheap? What does it cover? Should I ask my dad to see who they are with?”
“No,” he said a bit too quickly, cutting her off slightly and making her frown once more.
“I feel like something’s wrong.”
“There’s nothing wrong, I just,” Draco sighed, running a hand through his already messy morning hair, “sometimes I get jealous about how much you rely on your dad still.”
She softened at his confession, immediately getting up out of her chair to go and sit on his lap. He welcomed her in his arms, wrapping them around her hips as she held his face in the palm of his hands.
“I’m sorry I made you feel that way. I’ve just always relied on my dad and I know he will never be bothered by me no matter how stupid my questions are.”
“You could never bother me either, you know that right? Even when I’m at work. No matter what, you come first.”
She did know because Draco had never made her feel stupid. Of course, he teased her relentlessly, but not once had he ever made her feel inferior and always gave genuine responses to whatever she said or asked. But hearing Draco actually say it made her feel even better and she made a silent promise to start making her beautiful husband feel relied on.
She still called her dad almost everyday. It was often Draco would come home to find her sending a patronus to him. ‘Dad, you haven’t answered me all day.” “Dad, where’s mum?” “Dad, Harry is being a literal child. Tell him to grow up.”
Draco was happy for James to sort that one out. And he didn’t mind that she still spent lots of time talking to her dad through the fire place.
“Dad, you’ll never guess what happened to me today when I was making lunch.” “Dad, you’ll never guess who I saw at Flourish and Botts today.” “Dad, what did Sirius tell you the other day/.”
Because she kept to her promise and now, Draco was also receiving various patronus messages from her.
“Draco, the floo insurance people are saying that we are late for a payment, but that’s not a thing, right?”
“Draco, can you please pick up some more Sleekeazy’s hair potion on your way home. I’d send the house elf but he said he wasn’t feeling well and I feel bad.” “Draco, Gringrotts are trying to charge me for entering our vault, that’s not normal right?”
Draco loved it. He loved seeing her patronus make it’s way into his office for everyone to see that he had a wife who he loved and who loved him and trusted him.
It was a normal Wednesday afternoon when her patronus entered his office and he already had a dumb smile on his face, wondering what question his pretty wife had for him today.
“Draco,” instantly, he could tell that this wasn’t one of her usual patronus messages, her voice was small and in pain, “I think I splinched myself and I don’t know what to do.”
Draco was up and trying not to curse her for not sending her location in the message. He was quick to send one back, saying that she was going to be okay, she just needed to tell him where she was right now.
She was in Diagon Alley, just outside Ollivander’s. Draco didn’t bother to tell anyone he was leaving, he was the boss and he didn’t have time to tell them he had to go. His girl needed him.
He took long strides to get to her and when he was in ear shot she said, “I’m sorry, I know I could have asked someone else but I wanted you.” She wasn’t crying which was a good sign, but Draco wasn’t convinced he wasn’t going to start at her words.
“Where’d you splinch yourself my love?”
“My pinky.” She held up her left pinky finger and found that the top part had been cut off. Nothing that a quick regrowth potion couldn’t fix, but still, Draco could sympathise, quite scary.
He grabbed it in is own hand and he gave it a kiss just under the little specks of blood.
“C’mon my love, lets get you to St Mungo’s.”
She held onto him as he apparated her and they were happy to give her a quick regrowth potion and make her sit for fifteen minutes to ensure she was okay.
“I’m sorry,” she frowned as Draco sat down next to her in the waiting area.
“Why?” He wrapped her arm around her and she rested her head on his chest.
“I feel like I’m always bugging you with quesitons at work and now you had to leave because of me.”
“Don’t be,” he pushed his head down to press a kiss to the top of her head. “I told you, you always come first.”
After fifteen minutes she was given the okay to leave.
“Draco,” she said, “will you please apparate me back home first?” She had such a sad look on her face that he couldn’t say no. Not that he was going to anyway.
But even after they arrived home, she still had such a sad look on her face that Draco would have done anything to make it go away.
“Have fun back at work.” She was already burying herself in his chest, hugging him goodbye.
“Don’t be ridiculous my love.” She pulled back instantly, giving him a quizzical look. “You’re injured, I can’t leave you.”
“No, Draco,” she sighed, “I can’t make you stay home to look after me, it was only a small cut and I promise I’m fine.”
“I don’t care, I can’t leave my girl injured.”
She smiled at that and Draco was happy to lead her over to the lounge where he made her sit while he made her a cup of tea.
That night, they had been invited to Godric’s Hollow for their weekly dinner as James and Lily missed their children.
“Do you think you’ll be okay to go?” Draco teased.
“I’ll try to be brave.”
But Draco didn’t even suggest apparating and instead made his way over to the fireplace, getting her floo powder ready for her as she wrapped her coat around herself.
She went first and even though Draco followed immediately after, she was still about halfway through her splinching story by the time he got there.
“Are you okay dear?” Her mum asked, coming over to inspect where the splinching had occurred.
“Yeah, lucky it was just my pinky finger,” she said, pointing it up to show them.
“You should’ve called me!” James scolded and Draco had only seen this emotion on his wife once or twice before, but he knew that she was embarrassed.
“Oh, well, I mean,” she stuttered a bit more before she finally got it out. “I called Draco.”
“Oh,” James said, taking a small step back.
“He took really good care of me though,” she said very quickly, taking his hand into hers as he took a step closer to her, “he even stayed home from work to make sure I was really okay.”
Draco was relieved to see a genuine happy look on James Potter’s face.
“Good,” he said, bringing a hand to pat Draco on the back, “I’m glad you have someone you can rely on.”
