My Invincible Review
Tumblr media
Well, this is a little late, but hey, better late than never. My dad and I started watching this show when we were done with Falcon and Winter Soldier, and we wanted other shows to watch. I kept hearing good things about this show, and I have heard about the comic before. Once I watched the first episode, I was hooked, and I really want the second show to come out soon.
The story is about Mark Grayson, a sixteen-year-old boy who just started to develop his own superpowers. He is the son of Omni Man. Basically, this world's Superman, and as the series goes on, Mark learns that well, great power comes great responsibility, sorry not sorry. Aside from that lousy joke, Mark goes through the trials and tribulations of being a superhero and dealing with family drama and teen drama. This review will be heavy spoilers, and so I will go over each character and a few of the story beats. I have not read the comics, so this is all about the TV show.
Let's start with the adults of this series, beginning with Omni Man, voiced by JK Simmons, and JK Simmons excels at this role. He is terrifying, and he is a fascinating antagonist. I say antagonist because no true hero would beat their son into a bloody pulp. Anyway, he is a perfect character, and I enjoyed him. I was terrified of him whenever Deborah was trying to investigate whether or not he was involved with the murder of the Guardians of the Globe as I didn't know what he would do. Knowing that he killed the Guardians while the other characters didn't develop a lot of suspense had me on the edge of my seat. He is a monster, and I wonder what will happen in season two. Overall, I like Omni Man as an antagonist of the series.
Let's talk about Cecil Steadman, and I like him as well. I do not have that much to say about him, except he kind of reminds me a lot of all the government agents from Marvel and DC. Despite him working with the heroes, I enjoy that he would still have some dark moments like recruiting that messed-up doctor who created the reanimen. I am seeing him coming to blows with Mark and other heroes soon.
Now let's get into Eve's parents. I hate her father as almost calling his own child a bitch is not cool. Also, did he cheat as well? I mainly wonder because he was like, forgive Rex as he made a mistake and did no wrong. If he did cheat, I have a lot of questions to ask the mother. Eve was right to leave that toxic household.
Now let's go to Robot Man, and he is an exciting creep. He had to deal with a lot considering what his natural body had to go through, but he often meant well. However, when he started to have this creepy fascination with Monster Girl, I was very uncomfortable with how he interacted with her. I am not a fan of Rexsplode, but he had every right to be freaked out when Robot introduced himself in a younger version of his body. Also, why hasn't he found something to help Monster Girl? He said that he was doing this for her, but Monster Girl needs more help than him just getting a new body.
Next is Black Samson, and I like him. I was pretty happy when he got his powers back, and I love his character. I loved his interaction with the New Guardians. I apologize that I don't have that much to say about him, but I do like his character.
Lastly, I'll talk about my favorite adult character is Deborah Grayson, the best mom ever. Also, fuck you, Nolan, for calling her a pet! She is amazing. She can keep Mark human and remind him how important it is for a hero to help people no matter what. She reminds him that she is a human. I love how she took a role when she notices that Nolan is very suspicious because she knows what her husband is capable of. The poor woman had to see her own son get beaten to the brink of death by her own husband after hearing said husband call compare her to a pet and realize that all their years married were a lie. Someone needs to give this woman a hug.
Now let's get into the New Guardians of the Globe. Let's start with Shrinking Ray, as there is not that much to say about her. I mean, I loved her introduction scene, but she didn't have that much screen time. I would like to see more of her; maybe she'll get more screen time in season two, perhaps she won't. I also want to see more from Dupli-Kate(I don't know if I spelled this correctly). The only scene that stands out to me is when she was involved with Rex, and that's not cool.
Now let's get into Rex Splode. He basically has Gambit-like powers but lacks the charm and charisma and is an overall douchebag. I really don't like him at all, and he is probably the weakest member. While his powers could be helpful but he is not the best person personality-wise.
Next is Monster Girl, and I love her. I really hope that she would get her curse lifted. Aside from Mark and Eve, her story is probably the most compelling and pretty horrifying. If I noticed that I was slowly de-aging, I would be freaking out as well. I hope that she stays away from Robot.
Now let's get into the other characters that aren't really a part of a team. Let's start with William, and he is fantastic that Mark doesn't deserve some time. I would have been angry at Mark for being so obsessed with Amber and not helping find his crush, who was transformed into a horrifying cyborg-like man. Then again, I am not William, and he is a good friend.
Now let's get to Amber, and I love Amber; she is a great character and is not a bad guy. Amber wanted to break up with Mark as he was a terrible boyfriend. Also, I am glad that she didn't take Mark back when he revealed his identity. I mean, if William was okay with knowing Mark's identity, Mark should have stepped back and maybe talk to Amber about his superhero life. I feel that Amber knew about his superhero life during the college visit, and she had it with all the lies. That's just my headcanon, but she is a pretty cool person. I even loved her interactions with Eve and how she inspired Eve to go out on her own. She is not a terrible person. She is a teenage girl who is frustrated with being treated by a guy who would not leave her alone when she tried to enforce boundaries.
Now let's get into Eve, my all-time favorite character who is probably the most powerful being on earth. I know that Mark and Eve would get into a relationship soon thanks to some spoilers while surfing the web, but I am looking forward to the slow burn. She is the best character in the show, and her powers are fantastic. She is just the best; that all there is to it.
Now let's get into the main character himself, Mark. Now I just want to say is that I do love Mark. I love me, a character with flaws. I feel like he was spreading himself too thin, he wanted to date Amber and be a hero, but he was a terrible boyfriend. Mark, I love you, but when someone says that she wished to space give her space. The relationship was unhealthy, and I really wanted Mark to stop and let her go because he had so much to deal with. This is what always frustrated me. I mean, Mark caused a good majority of the relationship problems. I love him, but he had to stop.
The rant aside, I do love Mark as a character and a lead character as well. While he appears to be strong, he is a character who does not understand the responsibility of being a superhero. He has a robust power set, but he has no idea how to use it or what he is getting into. He does have the best qualities when it comes to being a hero. He is kind, always wants to help people with their problems, and just wants to be a good hero. He is an excellent lead, and the poor boy really has gone through a lot in a short amount of time. Still, he does have a great story, and his reactions to what has happened to him are pretty human. I mean, I would be happy if I learn that I have superheroes and then be a mess when I know that my father was insane.
Overall I loved this show, and when is the second season coming? I am not good at exercising patience! All of the characters are great, and the animation, from my limited knowledge, is fantastic. The plot is fantastic and fast-paced, and I cannot wait to see more of the show.

My Thoughts on the Original Star Wars Trilogy
A long time ago in a suburban area far far away(cue dramatic music)... A young Red head scribe saw a bunch of Stormtroopers gunning down rebels. Then once the fighting was over with the smoke clearing a tall imposing figure in black entered the scene with an obvious breathing problem. Okay my dad was flipping through channels and that scene came up as he watched Star Wars for a few more minutes but that scene always stuck in my head. It wasn't until I went to either my nana's or granny's house that I got hooked to Star Wars. Needless to say Star Wars was my first ever fandom and with a lot of the new shows coming out I thought I give my thoughts and feelings over all of them starting with the trilogy that started it all.
So the Original trilogy is great. There are a few moments of silliness hear and there but I don't care, the Star Wars movies are those movies that you just have a fun time watching no matter where you are and the beauty of the newer trilogies that it helps fans get introduced to Star Wars. While during my time as a kid I was in the era when the prequels were still around I think Revenge of the Sith didn't come out yet so I was introduced to the first trilogy and I fell in love with it.
I loved all of the characters, Luke Skywalker was an amazing protagonist, Leia was amazing and is the best Skywalker in my humble opinion. Han is great, but who doesn't love Han Solo and Chewbacca. The story of the first trilogy has the outline of Joseph Campbell's heroes journey but puts a nice spin to some of the elements. First, saving the princess while both Han and Luke go out to save Leia it is Leia that saves them. The mentor giving the blade to the hero, in other words lightsabers are AMAZING! Then there is the hero confronting the dark lord and the quote is "no, I am your father," not "Luke I am your father." Needless to say this story used the heroes journey outline effectively.
The characters are great and each have their own arc or hints to a story that people would like to know more about. The world is pretty awesome as well and of course the Galaxy of Star Wars is fantastic. The whole setting looks lived in and each background character looks like they have a story to tell. Also the villains are pretty great too but people and fans already know that as Darth Vader and the Emperor are pretty amazing.
In conclusion I love this trilogy and now let's go dive into the goofy, memeable but still fun prequel series.

My Top 10 Favorite Star Wars Characters
Ah Star Wars, my first ever fandom. I remember getting hooked the minute I saw Vader walk in making his entrance in a New Hope. This is going to be a short post and then I am going to be bold and go over each trilogy giving my own personal thoughts and feelings and later I will go over the TV shows. Right now I am going to list my top 10 Star Wars characters.
1. Leia Organa AKA: The best Skywalker.
2. Luke Skywalker- He is still amazing don't get me wrong I just prefer Leia overall.
3. Ahsoka Tano- Like Leia she is also the best and I
4. Din Djarin AKA The Mandalorian AKA Mando AKA Space Dad
5. Obi-Wan Kenobi- I cannot wait for the TV show.
6. Han Solo & Chewbacca- They are the definition of a true bromance and I love them both the same.
7. Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader- it's thanks to him as Vader I got into Star Wars
8. Padme Amidala- She is way to good for Anakin to be honest.
9. Captian Rex- he is amazing and I love him!
10. Dr. Aphra- Give this character a TV show I don't care if it's live action or animated Dr. Aphra needs a TV show now!
A few honorable mentions.
Asaaj Ventress- She is just really cool and I wanted to see more of her, maybe I should pick up the book starring Quinlan Vos(if I spelled that correctly).
Poe Dameron- The only sequel character that wasn't ruined.
Boba Fett- At first I thought that he was just overrated, I didn't read any of the old expanded material mainly because I was unaware that there were books as I was just a child when the Legends continuity was canon. After the Mandalorian I really liked his character.
Kylo Ren: Aside from Poe he was one of the characters that I actually found interesting and for the first two movies I really enjoyed his story then like they did with Rey and Finn they ruined him.
Grogu: He is in his own special category, mainly he is in the I must protect at all costs category.
Emperor Palpatine: He did not need to come back at all!! Ignoring the Rise of Skywalker and if I hadn't made it abundantly clear that is the worst Star Wars movie in my humble opinion. Needless to say he was a fun villain during the eras of the first two trilogies.
Also some of the new characters introduced in the Mandalorian, Fennec Shand, Greef Karga, Peli Motto, and I feel like there also needs to be a spin off with Bo-Katan and her group. Needless to say Star Wars has a vast array of characters that people grew up with and love and here are just a few of my personal favorites.

Six of Crows Duology Review
Tumblr media
Time to get into the best installment in the Grishaverse Six of Crows. The Six of Crows series is AMAZING and one of my favorite series that I like to reread. The series takes place a few years after the Shadow and Bone trilogy and it takes place in Ketterdam a city that is filled with slums and crime lords. Kaz Brekker is then offered a chance to get rich by pulling off an impossible heist. But he needs a crew and that is where Jesper, Inej(who is the best and deserves everything and even Kaz knows it too), Wylan, Matthias, Nina. All of them are outcast in their own right but these unlikely group of characters could possibly pull off the most risky heist.
I don't have that much to say about the book except for the fact that I love this series. The plot is an excellent character driven series. I loved all of the characters and I cried when spoilers from Crooked Kingdom happened. I just loved everything about this series and it made me a fan of Leigh Bardugo. Also a side note but who does the cover art for Leigh Bardugo's books because he or she or they knock them out of the park with each design.
This is a must read for anyone who is interested in the Grishaverse after watching the Netflix show. It has fun characters, a found family, angsty romance and heists, and who doesn't love a heist? This book is a five out of five starts. I will recommend this to everyone.

Something that's catching my attention while I'm rereading Siege and Storm is Mal's relationship with Alina's Summoner abilities. Because yes, Mal was super off-put when adjusting to Alina being Grisha, but there's this large misconception that he didn't want to accept her as Grisha when, in reality, he accepted that kinda quick! What he struggled with later into the series was Alina wanting to use more amplifiers which makes complete sense because these amplifiers meant a more equal power to the Darkling which meant a higher chance of Alina being corrupted and sent down the same painful path Aleksander has gone down. And the more absurd thing is, Mal barely even held Alina back!!!! He often expressed his discomfort when he saw the power start to control her (s&s pg. 103 cries) but he always let her have the final say and almost always backed her up all devoted and whipped.

My Shadow and Bone Trilogy Review
Tumblr media
Well with Shadow and Bone doing great on Netflix I thought it would be a great time to give my thoughts and feelings on the book. Shadow and Bone is a series written by Leigh Bardugo set in what is now known as the Grishaverse. Grisha are people who are able to to practice the small sciences, basically they can do magic but I guess this sounded cooler. The setting that it mostly takes place in is Ravka which is heavily based on Russia and other Slavic mythology. There is this thing called the Shadow Fold a great mass of darkness filled with a lot of horrifying creatures that is dividing the country. Not only do the Ravkan's have to deal with that but they also have to deal with war surrounding both of their borders.
All of that changes when a young cartographer Alina Starkov then discovers that she is the chosen one and has the potential to destroy the Shadow Fold. This is a chosen one story line and while at first I thought that it was just going to be a run of the mill storyline but, after I reread this series in preparation for the TV show I realized that Leigh was trying something different with the chosen one narrative. Did it stick the landing? Not really but this is where the Netflix TV show greatly improves on some aspects of the show.
Lets start with Alina Starkov are dearly beloved sun summoner. Alina is an overall fine character and I definitely don't hate her or anything but she was really passive. Throughout the majority of the series it is usually supporting characters that tell Alina that she needs to this or that or do cartwheels while juggling fireballs. Okay that last part I made up but you can see where I am getting with this. Most of the time Alina surrounds herself with people that only really need her because of her powers like Nikolai and the Darkling(at least Nikolai is a decent person). However looking back it does kind of show how often chosen ones loose their agency as they have to make personal sacrifices to make sure that the rest of the world is okay.
A perfect example of this chosen one narrative is She-Ra. Adora is chosen to wield this immense power and near the end where she believes that sacrificing herself would save the world it is shown that this isn't what she wanted. She wanted to live, she wanted to hang out with her friends and be with Catra. At the end though she is able to get her happy ending though after sacrificing all of her powers to be with her loved ones.
This is almost like Alina's story too. However in my opinion She-Ra did this type of chosen one story better. Mainly because we are constantly in Alina's head and she is a really wishy washi character who doesn't know what she wants. She says she wants Mal, but she is constantly pushing him away and then being like "oh woes me why isn't Mal talking to me what happen to our friendship?" Maybe if Alina was more communicative with Mal Seige and Storm would've been cut in half and I wouldn't have to deal with that unnecessary drama.
I actually do like her ending in Ruin and Rising. I feel that while she does miss her powers this is what she wanted. She was finally with Mal and she along with him were able to reopen the orphanage and helped orphan children which is still a very heroic and kind thing to do. I do enjoy the fact that while Alina can be a bit indecisive about many things she is a pretty kind person. She is forgiving Genya and David and is always helping out people and that is nice to see in a protagonist. In conclusion, Alina is a fine character and I think I like her character a lot more in the Netflix show as Jessie Mei Li did a fantastic job with making the character more enjoyable than the book.
Now let's get onto Mal, and I like him, I actually like Mal. What I don't understand is how people always say that Mal is abusive and doesn't deserve Alina and he is so toxic. Uhm, while he did get uneccessarily jealous he is definitely way better than the Darkling and I am sick of all this team Mal or team Darkling that is such a boring thing to do in fandoms and I am sick of it. I really hope that there is no Team Darkling, Team Mal or Team Nikolai shirts in the future. Back to Mal, I believe that Mal is a great character the problem is, is that most of the story is told in Alina's perspective and we never get an idea of how Mal is feeling or what he is doing during all of this. Do I believe that he had a right to get jealous of Alina and the Darkling, no especially since they weren't even in a relationship.
He was a little frustrating in Seige and Storm but both him and Alina were very frustrating in that book. If your best friend that you have more than platonic feelings for pushes you away, does not tell you what is going on half of the time and just says that you are just a body guard wouldn't you be frustrated too? He was definitely a interesting character and I believe he is way better than the Darkling.
Let's get into the Darkling himself and he is lucky he is being played by Ben Barnes who definitely gives him a more nuanced portrayal. Let's start with saying this he does NOT LOVE ALINA. She and him might have a connection as with the whole light and dark motif thing but what he feels for is not love, he just has a strong need to control her. I can't find the pages but, he isolates her from Mal, one of her only surviving friends, tries to make her dependent on him and PUTS A COLLAR ON HER SO HE CAN TAKE CONTROL OF HER POWERS. Not to mention the fact that he threatens Alina with violence whenever Alina does her own thing and tortured Mal in order to make Alina cooperate.
Lets not forget the fact that he sold Genya in which knowing that the King would do unspeakable things to her, and mutilated her leaving her with lots of trauma. Maimed his own mother and well it's all well and good because he is hot. Spoilers for later books he is not even redeemable and doesn't regret the actions he took. He wasn't even morally grey like Kaz but it's okay because since the Darkling is physically attractive that makes it okay that he did horrific things. After the first book he became a Saturday morning cartoon villain. Why do people excuse problematic behavior for people who are pretty? Just because someone is attractive doesn't mean that they are good people or should rug sweep their issues.
This was something I wanted to get off of my chest for awhile and while I'll go over this when I do the book to tv show adaptation I'll just say the show did it better for trying to show why people follow him. Either way he is an average YA villain and I just don't like him. If you ship the Darkling that's fine if you dislike Mal that's fine but don't come saying that the Darkling is misunderstood sad boy and reread the books because he isn't a redeemable character.
Now let's get to the supporting characters. I love all of them and I found them way more interesting than the Alina, the Darkling and Mal. Zoya was a fine character, at first just your standard mean girl that got better later on and better in King of Scars. Genya, I love her and she deserves all the love and happiness in the world and she and David are adorable. Nikolai is definitely an interesting character and I did enjoy his snarkiness. Tolya and Tamar are fine as well and Bagrha is my favorite grumpy old lady.
The setting is pretty awesome too as it has a gothic steampunk feel to it and I am a sucker for gothic aesthetics. I also am digging the whole gun fantasy setting too as I often do get tired of the medieval fantasy setting. I also like that it takes some influence from Imperial Russia.
Overall this is a fine series but Six of Crows is way better. I did enjoy a few moments in the trilogy but this hasn't been a series that I've been wanting to reread over and over again. Still I do enjoy Leigh Bardugo's writing style and she has become one of the authors that is a must buy. I give this book an three out of five stars.

Winx Club Opinions and Hot Takes
So after my review of Fate:Winx Saga I feel I need to acknowledge that while I do love the cartoon, it too has it flaws but it is leagues better than Fate. Still here are few of my scattered thoughts.
The Trix got much needed character development in Season 8. Well, at least Icy did but still an improvement. We see The Trix being actual sisters in some of season eight and let me say that pre-season 8 they were almost like the Team Rocket of the Winx Club, except none of the development or charm and season 5-7 they were rather annoying. If they are going to keep giving The Trix the spotlight as the villain give them some much needed development.
Instead of Pop Pixie why didn't Rainbow do a spin-off show of Roxy and her time at Alfea while also giving some development to the Alfea students. Or why not have Roxy attend the school at Tir Nan Og? That way she could learn more about earth fairies and be closer to her family and spending time with her mother after being separated from her. This would have given her some time to shine on her own and becoming a more fully realized character.
What are the point of the Pixies, fairy animals, fairy pets, selkies? I mean they are cute but they really serve no purpose. I do like the pixies and all but they served no purpose to the plot at all.
The show is too black and white. There are the good guys which are the fairies and the specialist, and the bad guys which are the witches. The villains don't exactly have goood motivations. The Trix wanted to steal the Dragon Flame and take over the Magic World. Lord Darkar wants to take over the world(I think?). Valtor wants to be the most powerful wizard and take over the world. Tritanus wants to take over the infinite ocean, I don't even want to talk about Selina or random book wizard. Cheetah Chick and whatever her brother is want to create a army with magical fairy animals. Then they ran out of world conquering villains they had to bring Valtor back.
Can I also say that maybe Darkar should have been saved for a final villain. It is said that he is the master of the ancestral witches, Valtor and all that is evil, so he has all of the makings for a final villain. Like The Trix for season 1, maybe the ancestral witches for season two and the fortress that Darkar has can just be reworked for their hideout as they are biding their time to regain their strength then have the Trix be serving them. While the Winx stops the witches they retreat to report back to Darkar. Then we have Valtor and the Trix do not appear as Valtor will use his lackeys Chimera, Cassandra and others from the girls home planets to make it personal. Lastly will be Darkar as Valtor claims I am not the last or something along those lines. Then if we must can add the other villains or have Tritanus be a mini boss of sorts as he can be one of Valtor's servants and we can have him be a mini boss that Aisha has to defeat or something. Well that wen't longer than expected.
Side Note: It has been awhile since I watched the whole show so feel free to correct me if I missed anything.
Also the Specialist are really boring. They don't really serve any other purpose than to be the girls love interest. I mean in World of Winx they are hardly mention in that series and the show does not loose anything from it.
The antagonist are the supporting villains are nothing to write home about either. Diaspro was fine for at least the first three seasons but that is it. She should have been done afterwards or if they did they should've put her back on a path where she wants to make up for all of her horrible deeds. I never understood what was the deal with Chimera and Cassandra but I did like their looks, same with Diaspro. My point is, is that they are just mean for meanness sake and are just the stereotypical mean girls.
The only good thing about Sirenix is it's song and that is it. Sirenix just looks ugly with the Daphne's look being the exception.
Bloomix could've been called anything else. Maybe Neo-Enchantix as the girls loose their power and Faragonda sends them on a quests to show why they deserve to get their powers back. I do have to say that their designs were great though.
Rainbow made the mistake for calling Enchantix final fairy form. Seriously when you call it that just stick to it and I don't know repackaged the dolls for merchandising or something.
What was the point of charmix? No seriously that is something I am not understanding. All that happens is that they get a nice little broach and a pouch bag. And some don't even look good. The best one being Musa.
The romances are so boring too. I don't mind some of them but they are so dull.
Season 1-3 Bloom is not the same as season 5-7 Bloom. Season four was okay but you can definitely see where her development was going. Also they should've added more of Bloom showing her dark side before we were introduced to Dark Bloom.
Well that was a long ramble but it goes to show that no show whether it be live-action or animated is perfect. I love Winx, always will but this is the last I'll ever speak of this. Next I'll be tackling the Grishaverse starting with the Shadow and Bone book review, Six of Crows, and then King of Scars duology. Then lastly I'll talk about the TV show.

Fate Winx Saga Review
Tumblr media
This is the Winx Club
Tumblr media
This isn't
Ah Winx Club, I remembering waking up early in the morning to watch it on Saturday, I thought that it was a cool show and my favorite character was Bloom during the first three seasons when it was under 4Kids. I thought that the characters were cool, the setting was pretty awesome as well and overall it was fun. Years later I was pretty shocked that it is still going on though from what I heard it has lost a lot of it’s quality with season eight being a mixed bag and an okay art style. Now Netflix has acquired the rights and there were two separate shows that they produce.
The first being World of Winx, an animated spin off show showing the girls hiding out on earth helping people and dealing with an evil version of Tinkerbell? In all honesty I was a little confused like how was this a spin off? Was it a spin off from season four as Roxy is a supporting character in this universe? That part confused me but overall it was a pretty good show but at this point I don’t think Winx Club fans wouldn’t mind a reboot that got the She-Ra treatment. Needless to say Winx Club is a popular show that was big in Italy and other countries but it is not what it used to be. Especially when we have this show to talk about Fate: A Winx Saga.
When I first saw the trailer I was pretty confused because none of the shots in the trailer reminded me of Winx Club. Also none of the characters were recognizable as they white washed and replaced Flora, and also white washed Musa. The only three characters that were recognizable were Bloom, Stella and Aisha. However there personalities have changed so much that I can’t even say that this is a faithful adaptation. I know in adaptations there has to be certain changes that you have to make because either to budget or they can’t fit it in and some stuff has to be cut. The least the show could do was get the fashion right, I mean the only one who should be wearing red is Musa while Bloom is the one that wears different shades of blue. Then again the fashion overall is a big joke and they really should fire the costume designer as I looked and she has had no experience dressing up teenagers. Rants out of the way lets see how they butchered the characters.
Let’s start with the leading Pyromaniac herself, Bloom. What the hell did they do to my girl? As a fellow redhead myself it is safe to say Bloom was the one I lean towards to the most even though I did see myself in Tecna, and Flora. Bloom is a stuck up bitch in this show and has to make it all about her, which was one of the problems in some of season four and later on. She is also unbelievably gullible and really stupid. She basically believes anything that Beatrix, a psychopath and a known liar about the whole Not Domino city, yeah I don’t care about the name of this said city in other world. She is a problematic Pyromaniac something that cartoon Bloom season 1-3 would be horrified about, and surprisingly bland.
Now, this Bloom could have worked if there were either more episodes or just better writers. Think about it, she is a girl who discovers that she has these unknown powers and when her emotions get the better of her and harm her family she could be a little distant and closed off. She is angry and confused because she doesn’t understand what is happening which can lead her to feeling a lot of emotions. Though I do hate the fact that they ruined Mike and Vanessa but I forgot that this is a teen drama and as a teen drama parents are assholes, it is the law of teen television. There could have been a nice arc of Bloom dealing with the fact that she has been lied to her entire life, feeling angry and betrayed but then going back to the Bloom we love from the first three seasons as she realized that she was the same person, she just now has a place where she can feel at home while also having awesome fire powers. However we got the worst of Bloom that is shown post season five.
Now lets get to Stella, and I will try my best to contain my rage when I am writing this. Did a person who worked on this show really thought that it would be a great idea to change Stella and make her Diaspro? You know we could’ve added Diaspro and Stella in the same show, she and Stella could’ve been friends due to the two girls being royalty, but then both Stella and Sky would realize that she is a toxic person and break away from her. This is not Stella and the cartoon Stella wouldn’t be caught dead in some of the outfits that she was wearing, maybe the last episode outfit but thats about it. They could’ve done something with her wardrobe, they could have her dress up as a old woman when her mother was around trying to impress her, and then dress up in clothes that the original Stella is known to wear. Stella is a stereotypical mean girl and there is nothing nuanced about her portrayal. This is not Stella this is Diaspro with Stella’s name.
Now let’s get on to Aisha, she is a fine characters but this isn’t Aisha as she has none of Aisha’s personality she is not even a princess of Andros and well she has no story outside of helping her white friend. Aisha was a standout of season two and had one of the best character entrances in the series. She doesn’t get a story of her own and she is relegated to just being the best friend that get’s Bloom out of trouble. The actress Precious Mustapha deserves way better than what they are giving her.
Now it is time for everybody’s favorite white-washed duo Terra/Flora and Musa. There have been videos and posts that are going over how stupid Netflix and Rainbow for doing this. Just to give everybody context, Musa’s appearance is based off of Lucy Liu and Flora is based off of Jennifer Lopez. I think that speaks for itself in how Netflix and Rainbow screwed this up especially when there are plus size Latinix actresses they could have casted. Now let’s get into their character, weirdly enough they are the ones that have the most interesting friendship dynamic, Terra is a fine character but she is not Flora and Musa is a lot more cold hearted and instead of being a fairy of music she is a mind fairy who is an empath. Now music in a way can evoke emotions and connect people on a deep level but her empathic powers are so undefined. Terra is a fine enough character and her family is pretty interesting.
Now lets get into the boys, Sky, Riven, Dane, and Sam. If there is one thing that I could applaud the show is that anyone can be a fairy or a specialist, it’s just a pity that they excluded the witches. Then again the witches do get the short end of the stick even in the cartoon. Sky is bland, and the actor only ever had one expression throughout the whole show. Riven is, well Riven has always been a jerk but cartoon Riven had some more well likable features than TV show Riven. Dane, he’s fine I would have liked him more if he wasn’t taking so many stupid pills when it came to Riven and Beatrix, boy he needs to find a better man to crush on becuase, Riven is not worth it at all, even if I didn’t like his performance I could definitely see him crushing on Sky way more than Riven. Sam is a fun character and I was glad to see a male fairy added to the school but that’s all I can say about him the boys are okay. If there was one thing that I enjoyed about World of Winx is that they didn’t include the boys and there was nothing lost from it, it was just the girls kicking ass and taking names.
There is not much to say about the school staff and Dowling is a fine character that is a lot like Faragonda, only really ever helps Bloom and reassuring her she is special. I wish there was more done with Terra’s father and all but nope any positive family interaction is bad in a teen show. Overall the school staff, I don’t think that we can even call them a school staff they were a joke.
Now let’s get into the villains, if there is one thing that fans of the first four season can agree on is that the villains were always a standout for each season one. That being said the only effective villain is Beatrix, even though they could have just done the Trix. Let me just say this, The Trix were a great villain for the first season and well they went downhill like the whole cartoon show. Also what is the deal with Rosalind and Sky’s father. To be fair Sky’s dad in the cartoon show has always been a jerk but a jerk that raised a psychopath like Beatrix is too much. I am a little nervous about how they will do if they actually introduce The Trix, Lord Darkar, and Valtor or even the Wizard’s of the Black Circle. Needless to say the villains were just bland.
That is if they actually even use the villains from the cartoon show because so far we have the rather bland Rosalind, I just don’t care for her and there is no need for her to be in the show, Daphne does not deserve this. Then there is Sky’s father and I don’t care and Luna and wow does every teen show have to have terrible parents. How is a cartoon show from the early 2000s is more diverse and interesting than this? I just don’t care at all about the villains except for Beatrix.
There is also the fact that the show is only six episodes and that really does hinder the show as the show could’ve used more episodes to flesh things out then maybe just maybe this show would’ve been interesting. I also see that there are some writers and producers from the Vampire Diaries that are attached to this project and well that explains why some aspects of the show seems dated. Overall Fate, is a bland show that definitely does have better writing than Riverdale but that is not saying much. The characters are bad, and the fashion is terrible something that was a main aspect of the show. The world is generic getting rid of the epic sci-fi fantasy world and Rainbow should’ve just rebooted the animated show.
