Chapter 3: Our Memories
!!Written in Zhongli’s POV!!
Summary: Everyone you’ve had an unexpected encounter with has shown up in your quiet home. They all seem to want to tell you something... and with much care, Zhongli takes it upon himself to reveal the truth...
I wasn’t ready for this moment but prepared? yes. Y/n’s now cold stare chilled me to the bone. “Listen. Listen very carefully, y/n,” I found their gaze and stared right back in seriousness, “the men around you that are gathered here today are yōkai.”
“You’re joking,” y/n spun around with a disbelieving look, “no, you’re not serious-”
“It’s true, y/n.” Kazuha’s flaming red eyes sternly looked back at theirs. Ayato nodded in agreement and so did the others, following with solemn faces. Y/n turned back towards me with an astonished whisper, “...what?”
“Let’s get this over with already!” Tartaglia spoke up, “you, y/n, is the key to our home world!” he slithered an arm around them and leaned down, “and we require your blood in order to open the portal to our home. Anddd.... if you really want us to leave; you’ll help us, won’t you, cutie?”
“Enough, Tartaglia.” Diluc yanked him off and he fell to the floor dramatically. “Just telling them what you guys couldn’t! Don’t be so harsh.”
With eyes as wide as dinner plates, y/n breathed in deeply. “I... don’t believe you.”
“May I request something?” speaking up, Ayato walked closer towards y/n and I. “How about you show them the memoriae cor? It should prove our existence without a problem.”
“Y/n?” turning towards the now skeptical human in asking for consent. Only nodding, y/n turns towards me with obedience. “Tartaglia.”
The ginger raised his head quickly, “Yes, Mister Zhongli?” He skipped over towards us and grinned proudly. “What do you need?”
Slightly tense, I gave myself a minute. “Y/N. We need a drop of your blood. -Just a drop, won’t take long, okay? And I promise it won’t hurt. Yōkai blades don’t disturb the flesh of humans. You can trust me.”
Seeing Y/n uncomfortable and scared sent me into not continuing what I stated but Childe’s palm on my shoulder deterred me from my doubt. They narrowed their eyes, skepticism crossing their features. “How can I trust you? You’ve basically lied to me about...” they waved their hands in front of them, “well, this whole thing.”
“Y/n.” Itto said. His worried crimson eyes flared in agony. “We’re telling the truth... I’m sorry.”
“Okay...?” Y/n rolled their eyes, “Fine. I’ll feed into your delusions longer.”
Tartaglia perked up, “Alright, then!” he summoned a small blade, almost the size of a large needle. Greedily skipping over to Y/n, grabbing at their arm. “Just stay still or-”
“Tartaglia.” I said, motioning for the blade. He pouted, “What!? Why?” He was resisting. “It’s mine, I’m way better at using it than you. Plus, I forged this myself. I’m not gonna let you get your hands on it.”
Ayato stared at him quizzically, “It’s not the matter of if it’s yours or not, we just don’t trust your...” he thought for a moment, “well, you.”
“Unbelievable.” Tartaglia said. “My head is yours if I go too far. Promise.”
All the men gave a collective sigh in agreement. But some were hesitant as a flash of distrust flashed in a couple of their eyes. Tartaglia carefully took the blade and poked at y/n’s finger. Sure enough, the flesh wasn’t visible but a tiny drop of ruby floated at the surface, being sucked into the blade like a sponge in a few seconds.
Y/n was mind blown. They looked on in shock and maybe horror. “...what...”
Tartaglia ignored them and turned to me, directing the blade at me. “Well, a memoriae cor requires the blood of a human and a higher up yōkai. C’mon, mister Zhongli.”
“I’ll do it myself.” Taking the blade from the ginger haired yōkai, I pressed it on my thumb. The blade pierced my skin and soaked up the blood that oozed out excitedly. Sure enough, the wound was exposed. Everyone looked on in an uncomfortable manner, Y/n, however, was terrified. “What? How is this happening? I’ll get you a napkin or something-”
“No, thank you.” I said. “ Unlike human skin, yōkai blades are made to hurt yōkai. It’ll heal just like human injuries. Don’t worry about it.”
Holding the blade up, the two drops of scarlet merged and it glowed a bright orange, then yellow, then white, until the room was illuminated by a flashing light. Everyone shielded their eyes, some were in shocked by the memoriae cor’s raw power while others had stern expressions on their faces. Y/n’s eyes were shut tight and I felt my hands wrap around their head, further shielding them from the light. Then, everything was calm and the light source forced its way into a minimum.
There was a giant screen-like projection all around us, and I could see myself- past self- at a table working on paperwork. Memoriae cor work like a third person point of view. They project everything from outside of the body just like how the drops of blood from earlier were outside of the body. However, only wealthy and yōkai loyal to the ministers of the realm were allowed to use such power, such things are forbidden to use without the consent of the leaders. Y/n peered curiously in front of them, glancing up at me once in a while to make sure they were really seeing what they were experiencing. Some of the other men were curious and excited too while Scaramouche seemed almost bored.
“This is the day we were banished. Almost 20 years ago in the human world.” I explained, looking at y/n, who was gripping my arm. “What? 20 years ago? that’s long.”
“20 years for you is long. But in the yōkai realm, 20 years is 20 days for us.” Ayato said, adjusting his sleeves. He turned his attention back towards the projection. “I wonder if they miss me...” he absently mumbled.
”Minister Zhongli, the other higher ups are requesting your presence.” all of the focus was now on the screen. A man with black wings informed Zhongli, who sat busy at his desk still. Eyes focused on the papers in front of him. The man bowed his head. “Immediately, sir.”
Zhongli now glanced up from his paperwork. “I’ll be there.” His clothes, a brown hanfu were filled with various golden embroideries and he wore with such grace, he looked dignified and majestic. He got up and followed the man out, slowing his fast steps for the winged man to catch up.
They entered a chamber with gold and high ceilings with thrones at the very back. There were eight yōkai stationed in front of the thrones, some were slightly bruised and others were clean shaven and well groomed. Zhongli walked in, confusion in his features. He raised his mighty head at the six yōkai who sat at the thrones, “What’s this?”
A throne yōkai raised her head and her purple robes flowed freely from her sleeve. “Minister Morax of all geo yōkai, you are to be held responsible for your disobedience.” her voice cold, she glared with her purple irises. Zhongli stood in shock, taking the information in uneasiness. He turned towards her.
“Why have you brought the others here?” He said.
“They are here for punishment, as well.” She replied, taking him in with her eyes, “Crimes similar to yours. Are you aware of what you did?”
“Yes. I’ve entered and interfered with the human realm.” He hanged his head guiltily.
“Good. I’m happy you know what you are responsible for, Minister Morax.” She nodded in approval. “We yōkai cannot interfere with the human realm or humans whatsoever. It is even more strict on our ministers and you have full knowledge of that, yes?”
“Yes. I am aware.” Zhongli said.
“Then.” Another throne yōkai spoke, his hair a wisp of teal but his eyes were stern, almost strict. “I’ll start with the crimes for the others.” he said.
“Kaedehara Kazuha, a kiko. Guilty of falling in love with a human.” He showed a man with a battered body, only held up by the arms of two other yōkai. “Next is Kamisato Ayato, an Ikuchi. Guilty of repeatedly entering and exiting the human realm.” Ayato was knelt down, untouched and unbothered. “Next, Tartaglia, an Isonade. Guilty of attempted murder on one of the minister’s life.” He knelt with some scratches, and a faint hint of blood. He was held down by a man with wings.
“Next is Kaeya Alberich, snow spirit. Guilty of-” Diluc stood up from the side, interrupting the throne yōkai. “I’ll succeed my brother.” he boomed, standing defiantly before the ministers. “Know your place, furaribi.” the lavender throne yōkai yelled.
He ignored her, “I’ll go in place of my brother. Please, spare him. I’ll take on as much punishment as needed.” He bowed deeply towards the thrones which some were whispering in shock and some simply scoffed. However, the teal throne yōkai nodded. “Diluc Ragnvindr, a furaribi. Punishment switch.”
“Thank you, ministers.” He bowed again. The teal minister continued, “Shikanoin Heizou, a furi. Guilty of causing mischief in the human realm.” Heizou’s scoff made everyone pause for a bit before the minister brushed it off, “Arataki Itto, an Oni. Guilty of befriending humans. Next, Scaramouche, a hitobashira. Guilty of the death of three humans.” Scaramouche crossed his arms, he was standing up and had a no expression present on his cold face.
“Last is Xiao, a teratsutsuki. Punish for the disobedience and threat of the ministers.” Xiao was knelt down but he had on a terrifying scowl. Standing up, he glared at the throne ministers who looked back equally as angry. “Stand down, great general.”
Energy spiked around him, green orbs circled and exploded with ferocity. Unfortunately, it all ended once he was sedated by a silent green throne yōkai who forced him into his true form, making him sleep deeply.
“Xiao...” Y/n’s voice broke the silence. They were watching carefully and intensely, displeasure plastered on their lips. Xiao looked away, almost shyly. He stopped watching for a moment then glared up at the projection with determination. Everyone continued to watch.
At last, the crimes were called out and the nine men who were sentenced stood still, their occasion noises were mumbles and sneers. Zhongli glared up at the thones and lowered his head in defeat when he saw a familiar figure being brought in by guards with black wings.
“Kaedehara Kazuha. You’ve committed the worst sin to ever befall this whole realm. To love a human from a world beyond is unacceptable.” An Icy throne yōkai spoke. The man with white hair raised his eyes to catch the human woman in the arms of the guards. He quietly sobbed, “...forgive her. Please don’t harm her. She isn’t at fault.”
The woman was asleep, slightly bruised and had a trail of dried tears that decorated her face nicely. Shaking his head, Kazuha begged for mercy but it triggered the throned yōkais to act. The woman was lowered and laid on the cold stone floor in front of them. Then, light quickly blinded everyone. It faltered for a bit before the woman was gone and was in the form of a small ball of light, floating above the surface of the floor. Kazuha cried loudly, body too sore and beaten up to stand up himself. His bloody hand reached for the orb desperately, he gave up and dropped to the floor in a flood of tears, too distressed to think properly.
“Ei.” Zhongli said finally. The purple throned yōkai glared at him. “Minister Morax.” she coldly spat.
Zhongli pleaded for the mercy of Kazuha and ‘Ei’ gave him some consideration. “Very well. The memory of Kaedehara Kazuha will be erased. During his punishment, he will no longer remember the human. This will be my act of mercy for him.”

Chapter 2: Into the Past
!!Written in Scaramouche’s POV!!
Summary: While fleeing from your apartment, Itto and Scaramouche investigate your humble abode, finding evidence and the presence of yōkai in your home. After cooling your head, you come home to find an odd sight; Itto and Scaramouche getting along? Even more baffled when they know Xiao and eventually a whole group of familiar men crowed in your home. You’re left to wonder about the strange possibilities of these strange men...
“What a wreck.” feelig the cold air pooling out of the room as soon as y/n ran out of their door, footsteps fading quietly as they made their way down the stairs. The cat food in my arms crinkled in laughter as I steadied myself in front of their opened door. Closing it quietly, I could faintly make out the small taunting laughter of the yōkai in their room but the loud slam of my fist shut them up hastily.
I was descending the stairs, determined to feed the alley cats as my morning routine but was stopped by a giant muscular man. Looking up, crazed blood red eyes stared down at me. It was Itto that foolish man had just missed y/n by a minute. I couldn’t help the satisfied smirk on my face as I watched him, sweaty and flushed, struggling to breathe in front of me.
“Little man-” Itto breathed, his form crouched down as he heaved great sighs.
I scowled, ‘who the hell does he think he is, calling me that?’  I walked around him but was stopped by a firm hand on my shoulder. Instantly swatting him away, I turned with a growl, “what?”
“y/n-” he breathed, “where are they?”
“In their apartment. Mourning, actually. They couldn’t believe their boyfriend hadn’t believe them. Too sad.”
It took all I have to not smile at his fearful expression, I clung to the bag of feed tightly when his eyebrows narrowed. Swiftly taking away the bag, Itto ran up the stairs which left me confused at the emptiness in my arms.
“Hey! You douche! Fucking shit!” I realized what was happening. That stupid oni had taken my bag and is running up the stairs with it, “Son of a bitch!” chasing him and earning distasteful looks from passersby.
“y/n?” frantic knocks on the door greeted me once I found that bastard. “y/n! Are you in there? Look, I’m sorry, okay? Can you please open the door?”
Itto’s stupidity doesn’t surprise me one bit. His knocking pausing once he spotted me. “Hey, are they really in there?” he asked, distressed and panicking. The look suited him quite well, actually. Snatching the cat feed from him, I glowered at him, “How about you unlock the door and find out, oni.”
I could see a flash of surprise in his eyes but it was quickly gone, opening the door to a dark abode.
I could smell the scent of yōkai in there and I was sure Itto smelled it as well. He bolted into the room, not bothering to turn on the light. Rolling my eyes, I was about to step away but my curiosity followed him like a lost kid.
The familiar scent of sandalwood and lilacs was stronger now, almost disgustingly familiar. My home world had the scent of sandalwood but the lilacs were new. It was like a party of yōkai is living here, dancing and singing their delight.
Snapping out of my thoughts, I noticed Itto was gone from my view only to find him in y/n’s bedroom. He came out with a hard look on his face, “they’re not here.”
   “Yeah, obviously.”
   “Where are they?”
I couldn’t help a sadistic smile forming on my lips, “I don’t know.” That was true, y/n ran out as quickly as they can without any explanation. I doubt low leveled yōkai could abduct them so it’s relatively safer to know that than not. However, that oni couldn’t stop trying to call out for y/n.
“It’s swarming in here,” Itto made a wry face, “last time I checked, there were two or three of those suckers in here.”
“yeah. Last time you were here.”
Itto gave me a hard look. Sighing, he looked away from me, “I know you’re here.”
Silence...
He’s talking to the yōkai, I thought. “Answer me!” Itto’s voice boomed, his anger shaking the bag in my arms.
“M-master Arataki!” a shadowy figure appeared before him, kneeling and crying in guilt. The kage onna bowed heavily, encouraging others to emerge as well, their bodies slowly sharpening into view. I could see five or six distinct yōkai at his feet now.
“What are you doing here?” Itto’s anger rose, I could feel the rage vibrating off his body and I knew they could feel it as well. “We... we were attracted to the energy the Sigl provided!” a Tenjō kudari spoke up quickly, her head pressed to the floor roughly.
“My, my,” I finally spoke, a mock in my voice, “so you were attracted to the Sigl, too?”
The weaker yōkai scrambled back as soon as I stepped into their line of sight. “Master Scaramouche!” they screamed, terrified of my presence. It was no different from back home yet the thrill of it excited me to my bones.
“Correct, my little puppets,” grabbing a braver one who sat closer to me by their disheveled hair, “Why in Ei’s name would you ever do such a thing?” the sarcasm in my voice hid my concern. Concern for y/n. Why was I concerned for y/n?
“Let them go, Scaramouche.” Itto firmly placed a hand on my shoulder.
I rolled my eyes and threw the weaker across the room with ease. “Why? They’re just gonna do it again. I’ll make an example of one.” Sinister flames licked my hands until Itto gave me a firm pat. Exhaling, I let go and turned towards the weaklings with a pseudo smile, “unbelievably lucky today, I believe our master oni has spared you all,” unkindly lowering my voice I continued viciously, “such a shame.”
The weaker scattered and dispersed into the air until I could no longer sense them. Itto was in deep thought, “poor y/n...”
I waved him off, “yeah, yeah ‘I should’ve been there for them’ blah blah blah.” In honesty, I was getting sick and tired of this sappy shit. I placed the cat food down near the broken phone with a huff. Unexpectedly, Itto ignored me and was picking up a shiny new phone while examining a broken one with concentration.
A flash of concentrated blue awoke from the screen of the new phone and it flashed a unnoticeable narwhal symbol before turning back off again. “Shit.”
Tartaglia has met them too. It was bad news for both Itto and me since that isonade was as dangerous and deadly as all yōkai combined. He was banished as a precaution to our home world but since he’s here, my guess was that he’s seeking to open our home world without us realizing.
That’s when the door slowly opened, Itto and I were ready for the worst but our fists were met with y/n’s surprised face. Standing a few feet from them was a familiar face but it was hidden by the slight jolt of his head.
“Y/n!” Itto embraced them while y/n was struggling to grasp the situation at hand. “Itto! What are you doing in my apartment?” obviously baffled by the giant man’s presence, they did not see me yet. However, the mysterious stranger detected me straight away and looked at me with amber eyes.
“Scaramouche.” he nodded in my direction. Y/n’s eyes flew to me from behind Itto’s broad shoulders. “Scaramouche? What are you doing here?” their voice perked me up right away.
“Spring cleaning.” I huffed, looking away from them defiantly.
   “It’s the middle of fall.”
   “Same thing.”
The stranger hacked uncomfortably, “well, see you, y/n.” he was taking a step back before Itto made a dash for him, “Xiao! Hey there, man!”
Xiao? It rung a bell. Searching for memories, I realized it was the same yōkai that was banished alongside Itto, me, and several others. Xiao surprisingly stopped and turned towards Itto then me.
“You know each other?” y/n finally spoke up after a couple of moments of silence.
Itto gave them a proud smirk, “Yeah! We go waaay back.” Wrapping his arms around the yōkai’s shoulders, he beckoned Xiao inside of the apartment and shut the door, enclosing all of us inside y/n’s humble abode.
“What is going on? Why are you hanging with Scaramouche in my apartment?” Y/n’s lips pressed in a firm line. I jeered at them in their naivety to comprehend the situation, “are you naturally that shallow or do you have a brain of your own?”
“Well, obviously they don’t know. Because you hadn’t told them? Have you not?” Xiao scolded. I looked back at him in displeasure, “Well, they would’ve known if somebody told them earlier.” I turned towards Itto, a slight jab at him.
Itto evaded our glares by pretending to observe y/n’s broken phone on the kitchen counter.
“Tell me what? Itto?” y/n snatched the broken phone from Itto’s prying eyes while looking up at him questionably.
   “We-”
Knock. Knock. Knock.
‘Damn. This was getting good.’  I couldn’t help the look of resentment towards the interruption, Itto gladly skipping to the door to answer.
   “What took you so long?”
“Heizou?” Y/n peaked through Itto’s body, “what-”
“Yes, it’s me!” Heizou looked up at Itto, “Why are you hiding Itto in your home?” the brat pushed his way into their apartment and found Xiao and I conspicuously looking at him with a frown.
“I see you have a party going? Where are the chicks?” Heizou teased, striding in nonchalantly and standing next to Xiao with a cheerful poke to his arm. Xiao brushed him away and moved closer to me to get away from the rascal.
“I see you haven’t changed at all from your banishment.” Xiao scoffed and closed his eyes to drown out the sight of the idiot still poking him.
“So have you.” Heizou replied, his mirthful gaze traveling to me next, “Hey, aren’t you the one who got banished by your own master for you know- killing- mmf!” his mouth was covered by my hand. I wouldn’t hear the end of it if he wouldn’t shut up about that.
“killing?” Y/n’s trembling voice reached my ears. I looked at them blankly and retracted my hand from Heizou’s smiling lips. “You haven’t told them yet?” Heizou’s smile didn’t each his eyes. It was almost sinister. “Well-”
Knock Knock Knock.
Another interference. It made Heizou pout, his eyes traveling to the door. However, the presence from the other side made me shiver and I could tell, the others aside from y/n could feel the low energy emitting from the door.
Itto shoved y/n aside and Xiao, Heizou, and I stood in front of the door with y/n behind us protectively. The door slowly opened and a body was quickly thrashed into my arms.
“Scara!” A childish voice rung in my ears with delight while crushing me in a hug.
I harshly threw the bastard off me and met with dull ocean eyes. “Tartaglia. Stop.”
Tartaglia gave me a mordant grunt of sadness before getting up from the floor, the door behind him was wide opened and his scene caused some passersby to gawk at the scene inside of the apartment. He shut the door, waved at them, and before turning back to me, “What, no ‘hello?’ C’mon comrade, Have some cheer!”
‘Bastard. You’re even worst than that stupid oni Itto.’ Rolling my eyes, I only glared at him in disapproval. However, his attention snapped to the ‘people’ behind me.
“Wow, you’re really throwing a party in here with my fellow comrades.” He nodded in approval. His eyes flew to y/n, who was concealed behind Itto, “Oh. It’s you, cutie.” He stepped closer towards y/n but was met with Itto’s intimidating frown.
“Fine, fine. I’ll let you with mama bird over here, cutie.” Tartaglia’s hands stuck up in mock surrender before facing both Xiao and Heizou’s equally cold stare.
“What’s going on, guys?” Y/n’s frail voice awoke up from the situation. Tartaglia looked at them pitifully, “What do you mean, little bird?”
“Childe. Do not start.” Xiao growled, his fists clenched in anger but his face had a neutrality of calmness.
“Start what?” the feigned confusion laced with irritation in his voice startled y/n.
But before Xiao and Childe could fist fight, the door knocked again. “What now!?”
Opening the door, I was met with lavender eyes and crimson eyes staring at me with confusion.
“Uh... is this really y/n’s room?” the crimson eyed one asked.
The lavender eyed one smirked at him reassuringly, “yes, I’m sure. Kazuha, you need to trust in my assistant’s work.”
“Can I help you?” I couldn’t help but interrupt them. Their faces familiar also.
“Scaramouche?” ‘Kazuha’ observed me carefully, “Why are you here?”
I opened my mouth to let out a sharp retort but was stopped by y/n pushing me aside and gasping when they saw the two visitors.
“Ayato! Kazuha! What brings you here?” they were smiling, a bounce in their step. Disgusted, I rolled my eyes and walked back towards the others with a giant pout on my face.
“Awww. Lover’s quarrel?” Childe’s face was pressed to my cheek teasingly.
   “Shut the fuck up.”
He was knocked back with a harsh punch to his jaw, a hand on his chest and in a whinny tone, he added, “ouch. So harsh.”
I felt hot anger rush up into my fist, Heizou and Itto batting me away from that stupid ginger with their body sandwiched between my glare and Tartaglia’s triumphant smirk.
“Calm down Scara-dude.” Itto looked me in the eyes, almost intimidated.
“Will you guys behave?” Y/n walked in on our banter, Ayato and Kazuha trailing behind them like body guards.
We eventually broke away from another and avoided eye contact out of pettiness. Y/n’s tiresome stare individually scanning each of us, sight mostly lingering on Tartaglia the most.
“Hey wait a minute-” they took a step closer, “you’re the guy who gave me that shitty phone!” I saw rage in their eyes and frankly, I felt pleased with their reaction until Tartaglia closed the distanced between him and y/n.
“You’re even more beautiful mad.” He laughed, pulling back and waved both of his hands in the air out of submission. Y/n’s face was comparable to a beet, their annoyed face brought a slight laugh to my chest.
“What are you all even doing here anyway? What? Should I start calling up all of my friends and have a party?” Y/n’s face was in their hand, fingers rubbing their temples in deep grievance, their voice hinting sarcasm.
Itto turned back towards Xiao, who was lounging on y/n’s couch with his eyes closed, “who else are we missing?”
Xiao opened his eyes and what I assumed was counting the obvious ‘guests’ in y/n’s apartment. “Two more; Zhongli and Diluc.”
Looking at Xiao in shock, y/n’s wide owl eyes focused in on the aloof yōkai in disbelief, “what!?”
Ignoring y/n, all of us began to discuss our situation to each other, “Do they know?” Ayato interrupted, worried eyes glistening with doubt.
“Know what?” Heizou countered, sitting on the kitchen counter, obviously swimming in confusion. Kazuha looked at him, “That we’re yōkai.”
Itto coughed obnoxiously loud, “W-well-” it made my blood boil, “no, because this stupid Oni hadn’t told them anything.” rolling my eyes, headache getting worst over this stupid situation that I had gotten myself in.
“Oh?” Tartaglia’s cheery voice paused my oncoming headache, he stepped closer towards Y/n before I stepped in between them, his face scrunched up into annoyance and peered over my shoulder hopefully, “Y/n? You haven’t had us figured out yet?”
Xiao spoke up, “Someone get in contact with Diluc, I’ve got Zhongli covered.” he reached to his phone and messed with it for a bit before shoving it back in his pocket and crossing his arms, “Lets wait for the two missing to show up before we tell y/n.”
Tartaglia shut his mouth but smiled defiantly, walking away to stand beside y/n’s television. He taps his foot repeatably out of impatience. Ayato made a whistling noise before showing us his phone screen, “Diluc will be here.”
“What!? No. You guys have to leave this is no place to hang out.” Y/n shook their head, “Itto tell your friends to leave.”
Itto only looked at y/n, his crimson eyes darted wildly, “sorry, no can do. This is a serious matter. I can’t help you.”
Y/n then turned to me, “Scaramouche, please.” my eyes stared back lifelessly, I had conflicting emotions about this but a part of me was stubborn about telling them the truth. “Can’t.”
Y/n looked betrayed, their eyes adjusted downwards before turning back to the others with insistence. Kazuha, who was looking away from them was then surprised by the closeness of y/n’s body against his.
   “Kazuha.”
His eyes darted towards y/n’s with desire but flicked back towards Ayato, who was quietly shaking his head sadly. “I’m sorry, y/n.”
knock knock knock.
Xiao got up to open the door but y/n stormed to it first, opening the door to a slightly disheveled Zhongli, “hello, y/n.”
“No. Leave. In fact, Zhongli, tell them all to leave.” y/n opened the door wider to expose all of us. The older man looked at y/n confusingly before a tap to his shoulder shook him of any thoughts. Red fiery hair bloomed from behind Zhongli’s shoulder.
“Excuse me, sir.” Diluc narrowed his eyes at Zhongli before his eyes widened in awe, “Master Zhongli?”
The two men gently bowed to each other, Zhongli smiling at him before turning back to y/n with a stoic look on his face, “Excuse our intruding, y/n.” He gently tugged them to his chest before stepping in, letting Diluc through the door, and closing it quietly while holding y/n comfortably in his arms.
“No, what is going on?” y/n pushed themselves off of Zhongli’s chest, “Is the party happening now? Is this all of the guests?”
“Have they been this annoying?” I muttered, earning a few scowls, mostly from Itto and Xiao.
“I see. Today is the day.” Zhongli placed a thoughtful finger to his chin, closing his eyes in deep thought.

✦ Haunting Love ✦

Chapter 1: Forgive but don’t Forget
Summary: While trying to turn the new phone on, you realized it was a scam. Going to bed angry, an unexpected roommate terrorizes your sleep and leaves you fleeing the halls until Scaramouche finds you and tells you to go back. Only after hastily telling you to get into his apartment after entering your apartment only to find the darkness himself.
You stay the night in his comfort and wake up to a slight change of heart. Though his wit is certainly there, his bizarre kindness leaves you baffled yet amused. You call up Itto later and explain your situation but only to leave in disbelief when he doesn’t believe you. You storm off into your apartment to find evidence of the shadow creature and leave in a blind panic.
While at Cinder Falls, a new park in your city, an unexpected person comforts you...
You returned to your apartment shortly after. In your left hand, a brand new phone and the other, a damaged phone. Upon reaching your door; letting a deep sigh of exhaustion, eyes closing from burnt out enthusiasm. The door knob clicked and opened, the darkness cascading down your spine slowly, shaking you to your core. Stepping inside hesitantly, the flick of the light switch aroused your living room in a blinding white light, everything popping into view once the light settled.
You took a long look at the brand new phone in your palm, resting the broken one on your kitchen counter. Making quick work of opening the box, your hands fiddled with the screen before turning it on. A vivid blue screen greeted blithely at you, seeming to wave and then turning black again. You tried to revive it a couple of times but it consistently cut off several times. The battery was full, you checked. You weren’t an idiot.
You scoffed and slammed the new phone next to your broken one. “What a scam...” your patience was running thin and you were agitated.
As you got in for bed, head hitting your pillow, you noticed a deep shadow standing at the corner of your room but brushed it off as poor lighting. However, paranoia gripped your lungs the longer you stayed. It seemed to move and contort weirdly. No matter the rate of your heart beat or the rapid blinking, the figure would never disappear. ’Must be my imagination’  you’d chant to yourself over and over again. However; the dark shadow seemed to taunt you, twisting and moving forward ever so slightly, approaching you with every blink.
You built enough courage to spring from your bed and fled out into the hallways, away from your apartment and away from that thing. You ran, not caring if you were loud or obnoxious; you ran because you were scared.
Finally caving in at the end of the hallway, your ears picked up the patter of feet.
You froze.
Clomp...
Clomp.
It’s getting louder.
And it stopped. Right behind you.
“The hell are you doing, idiot?” a familiar rude voice caught your attention immediately.
Your eyes fled to his face, Scaramouche, the signature frown he always wore plastered on his face. He had noticeable eye bags and his hair was slightly tangled. You chuckled in relief and collapsed to your knees in exhaustion, eyes misted and arms wrapped around your body in an attempt to not break down.
Scaramouche’s eyes flashed for a second, standing in front of you and silently panicking. His lithe form now crouching down to your level and looking into your eyes, “what happened?”
“I saw-” terrified eyes met his, “I saw something...in there...” your words choked you. Scaramouche’s eyebrow only raised in suspicion, “saw what?”
“Listen, if you don’t want to hear it- I know I sound fucking crazy but...” your eyes tightly closed, “there was this shadow...” it sounded stupid coming out of your mouth but continued anyway, “...I can’t place it but it wasn’t a shadow.”
Scaramouche rolled his eyes, “you sure it wasn’t your shadow?”
You scoffed, “No! Why would I-” you felt tears down your cheeks, “wh- why would i- lie?” you felt extremely betrayed at the fact that he didn’t believe you. Your breakdown appearing as soon as you were doubted though you tried holding it as long as possible. So much is happening to you and you just wanted it all to end as quickly as it came.
“Listen-” indigo eyes held your gaze, “let’s head back, okay?” he shyly wiped your tears away with a swipe of his thumb and grabbed your arm. You; however, protested by yanking your arm away, “No! I’m not going back there with that thing. It’s not human, I’ll promise you that.”
Scaramouche bantered your words, “riiiight. Your shadow is there. C’mon, idiot.” He held you up and forced you to walk with him back to your apartment. Grunting angrily each time you struggled in his grasp.
At your opened door, he peeked his head in and immediately froze. “Stay here, “ he strode in carelessly and turned around with a hard look on his face moments after, “my apartment. Now.”
Confused, you only stood there like a deer in headlights before being shoved aside. Your door clicked and Scaramouche was grabbing your shoulders quite forcefully, “did you not hear me!? Go!”
Your legs ushered you to the door next to you. Opening the door to his home, he studied you before locking both him and you in. Staring at him distrustfully, you opened your lips at last, “what’s going on in there?”
He muttered something before scrunching up his face in irritation, “Christ... y/n.” his fingers on his temples, “you got a couple of Yōkai in there.”
“What!?” your eyes widened in disbelief, mouth flopping up and down.
“Look, have your boyfriends ever told you?”
You glared at him, “They’re not my boyfriends!” you looked away before facing him again, “what do you mean have they ever told me?”
You could see a bit of him deadpan before walking away with an exasperated sigh, “...nothing.”
Baffling thoughts cursed your line of sight. Still standing at the door, you were caught by surprise with the slight hit on your head with a violet blanket. Indigo eyes now focused on you, “you wanna sleep in the doorway? Go ahead.” he wandered off into the living room and sat on his couch smugly.
Treading to where he sat, you placed yourself next to him to which he huffed but didn’t move away. Your arms clutched around the soft blanket he gave you gratefully. The noises of the TV and breathing slowly fading away as soon as your head hit the soft bundle.
Scaramouche held your figure in his gaze, “...it’s a miracle you’re still alive, you know?” he whispered, “ those low leveled yōkai... were constantly draining your happiness in there... and yet here you are: still oblivious to everything.” The dark haired man lowered his gaze, “that’s right. I did the same thing. But-”
Y/n ‘s clumsy attempt to befriend made his sinister goal falter for a moment. ‘this wasn’t a person to control,’ he thought, gingerly laying you down on the couch and covering you with the blanket. His cold resolve melted a little at the sight of a simple minded human trusting him enough to fall asleep in a wolf’s den. Little do you know he too was a yōkai, a Hitobashira, and one of the most respected yōkai in his home world.
You woke up, feeling of warmth engulfed you and the warm scent of coffee was fleeing for your nose. Rubbing your eyes deliriously, you stared at the unfamiliar room that you had rose up from. “where am I...?” your husky voice echoed and bounced back tauntingly.
“You awake? Good.” Scaramouche answered from the connected kitchen. His eyes pierced yours, “Brought you cookies.” You sat up quickly, “what?”
He rolled his eyes, you noticed, he seemed much healthier and... brighter? His eye bags has disappeared and his skin glowed overnight.
“Cookies.” he repeated, almost loudly and shaking a plastic container in his hands. "What's it for?" You were confused yet getting up and approaching him. He took a sip of his coffee, "breakfast for you, human."
"Human?" You questioned, "why are you talking that way?"
   "What way?"
Scaramouche's eyes narrowed pitifully, well, at least you thought; looking closer, he looked at you mockingly. Taking a cookie, you mirrored his expression to which he feigned surprise at. His mischievous eyes glittered sharply in your direction but only dulled when he pulled away from you unexpectedly.
“I’ll be gone for a minute.” he stalked off to his bedroom, waving his hand lazily in the air.
Looking down at the cookies, you noticed, they were the same brand you’d bought since you went to try and talk to him but he’d quickly shut the door when approached.
“Pfft...” you couldn’t help but laugh, a smile grew on your face, “that man has such civilized tastes.”
   “...what...?”
You turned and realized your silent teasing had Scaramouche’s face wither into something between being flustered and irritation. Stuffing your mouth with a cookie you looked at him innocently before muttering a “nothing.”
“Don’t you have work today?” he’d finally asked. In his arms were a bag of cat food, presumably for the cats out in the alleyway. You shook your head, “I don’t work on Fridays.”
His nose scrunched up, “what? you’re gonna hang around in my apartment for the rest of the day?”
   “What!? No!”
It was obvious you’d refuse; he wasn’t such a good neighbor for his biting words but what caused you to shiver was the thought of living with him.
“I’ll call up Itto or something. I’ll find a way. Thanks for your hospitality, Scaramouche.” You walked away from the counter, almost begrudgingly. Your thoughts snapped to the strange shadow figure and paused, “...do...you have a phone I can use?”
“y/n! What happened?” Itto’s voice beamed through the speaker, “why did you call me twenty times?”
“Itto,” you looked over at Scaramouche, who was rolling his eyes in disgust, “listen to me...”
As you proceeded to tell him everything that’s happened, he stayed awfully quiet through it all. He listened intently, his eyebrows furrowing in concern on the other side as you worriedly tell him of your supposedly ‘haunted’ apartment.
“Maybe it was just your imagination, y/n. Remember, ghosts don’t exist and so do monsters.” he’d closely focus on the words before you hung up on him, frustrated he didn’t take you seriously.
“A little fight?” Scaramouche raised a brow teasingly. You only scoffed and stormed out in anger, your blood boiling from the fact that Itto first hadn’t been there for you and second; he didn’t believe you.
Your feet took you to your dark apartment, mind reeling from sadness and Scaramouche only stared after you when you disappeared inside.
Striding to your bedroom to collect any evidence of the shadow. Any proof that you weren’t just a stupid and silly kid that no one takes seriously. Fortunately; you found a dark and slimy patch on your bedroom floor, it looked like it corroded the soft carpet and gurgled with speech. You felt goosebumps when you stepped closer, the smell of a musty acid making its way to your nose and tongue.
Run.
You were paralyzed yet you can hear the little thoughts in the back of your mind to get out of there as fast as possible.
And so you ran. You ran out of your room and out of your apartment, past a confused Scaramouche. You ran out of the building and ran until you couldn’t feel that thing anymore.
And here you were; at a bench at the new park called Cinder Falls. A sour look was firmly plastered on your face as you raked your foot against the orange and red leaves that embellished the floor. You didn’t quite care for its beauty in the moment. You looked up at the morning clouds to hold back your oncoming tears of frustration but quickly removed them when you felt a presence next to you.
In your peripheral vision, you can make out ebony and teal hair and a concerned looking Xiao. Turning, you gave him a strangled smile, your heart breaking in two when he frowned deeper.
Continuing to not look at each other, silence consumed both of your worlds. He looked away, you noticed. “...tough day?”
Your eyes darted towards him but softened immediately, “yeah... I did.” relaxing, you leaned back but hastily curled up again. Thoughts of Itto overpowered your mind and it made you extremely uneasy. Itto made you mad, sad, and happy but why was it bothering you so much at the thought of him making you sad? Scaramouche hadn’t bothered to believe you but when it came to Itto, his opinion seemed to matter the most. Were you perhaps-
   “...y/n?”
Xiao.
You turned towards the man and gave him a confused look. He tried again, “You want something to drink? I can get you something from Moth Cafe.”
“I uh-” thinking to yourself, unsure of his offer. ‘I haven’t known him for long-’ the little voice reminded but there was another voice that was louder, ‘I can trust him’
“Maybe not-” Xiao looked away but jumped when you noisily spat out a yes.
And there you were, sitting alone on the bench again, zoning out into Cinder Falls by yourself. Xiao was only just a few buildings away buying you a cold drink that you had asked for prior to scaring him half to death.
Your drink was now in front of you. Looking up, amber eyes darted away from you and you skeptically took the drink. Hesitation biting you, the small voice beckoning you to think of your own safety.
“It’s not drugged,” Xiao sat next to you, “promise.”
Your face heated up at how expertly he read your mind, “sorry for doubting you...”
“No, don’t apologize. I’ll be suspicious if a random stranger bought me a drink, too.”
Taking a tiny sip, you looked at Xiao. He stared off into the sunlit horizon with a furrow in his brow.
“You’re not what I expected.” You admired his profile, then his eyes which inspected yours questionably.
“What?” he sulked, “what do you mean by that?”
“Well, you’re always hard to interact with,” pointing out, you teasingly smiled at him, “I’ve always assumed you were in a phase and you never escaped it.”
“What phase?” he got closer, his breath almost fanning your own.
“Well...” keeping a distance, you continued boldly, “your emo phase...”
That gave Xiao a silent smile. It wasn’t wide but it was enough to show his amusement, “what gave it away?”
You both laughed, your heart fluttering weirdly in your chest. The walls were silently breaking, Xiao and you were chatting away like you were old friends. A hint of deja vu rushing at both of you like a side effect of bitter sweet medicine.

☾ Genshin in Stranger Things ☽
✤ My opinion on them in stranger things. I will be analyzing their qualities and their roles as well as if themselves. This will not be a comparison to the actual characters in stranger things!
✤ Warnings! Spoilers to the show, blood mention, slight ramblings, slight crack
✤ Characters: Albedo, Ayato, Beidou, Childe, Chongyun, Diluc, Kaeya, Ningguang, Thoma, Xiao, Xingqiu, Zhongli ✤
~
✣  Albedo ✣
Role: Scientist, Helper
Qualities:
-Big advantage to solving puzzles. The first one to get an solution; always. Even if the problems are confusing, he’d find a way
- He also makes deadlier weapons for when the group needs protection
- If the group is in trouble, he aids them in everything. Need ammunition for your gun? He’s got it prepared. He’ll also notice small scrapes and will mentally note to bring first aid for later
- He’s powerful because he uses his environment to fight for him. Being chased by a demodog? He’ll slow their path by dropping an entire book case in their way
Disadvantage :
- Though quick and smart, he’s not good at shooting a gun or brute strength
- I feel like his main disability is not getting in touch with reality. His head is always in the cloud whenever he’s thinking harshly and no one can really tell him no because he’s persistent in his idea
- If he’s ever in a situation where he’s cornered by a demogorgon by himself, he’d freeze up immediately
Summary: Albedo is a very lucky recruit if he were on your team. Though he would not believe that there was evil creatures lurking around at first, he’d immediately accept that there’s a possibility. He’s a big help when giving helpful suggestions and answers when the team is losing enthusiasm. He’ll go into almost every situation willingly if it means keeping his group safe and saving the world. Even if he’s cornered, you know he’ll fight his way out.
~
✣ Ayato ✣
Role: Logical, Planner
Qualities:
- Was a prodigy as a kid and it grew once he’s older
- Tells the group “no” if they ever came up with something risky like self sacrificing or baiting.
- He’s the mind of the group, steering them away from getting themselves killed but also putting himself between his teammates and demodogs if they surround him and his group
- He plans the route and the plans. He always have everything prepared beforehand. His routines are strict and precise.
- Also a charmer. Need to get into private property? Bring him along with you
Disadvantage :
- Even though he’s logical, he gets annoyed easily and often resulting in him glaring at his teammates in silence
- EXTREMELY quick metabolism. He’d wander off to look for food. He can’t help it. Running from demodogs and demogorgons make him hungry
- Can’t use weapons for the life of him. He’ll smash a demodog’s face with a plate, though
Summary: A lovely addition to your group, if you need a non dying plan. However, his charisma can get into places that people aren't usually allowed to go. The fact that he can plan things ahead of time? Yes, duh, you need a plan if you are to survive. If one or two of his teammate is cornered, he’ll jump in and save them. He’s the fight kind of guy.
~
✣ Beidou ✣
Role: Babysitter figure, team leader
Qualities:
- no one questions her if she decides for herself. She needs to keep her group safe at all cost
- Will jump into a fight bare handed if a demogorgon decides that it wants to snack on her beloved teammates
- She enforces the plans and will give honest opinions on Albedo’s rambling
- Brings the group together when they start to fall apart
- Brute force. She crushes two demodogs with her hands?
- Everyone loves her and she equally loves them. She will fight with her last breath if it means saving her lovely kids from danger
Disadvantage:
- Gets too emotional and scolds her teammates harshly if they were trying to self sacrifice.
- Has no filter when fighting. Will stick her fist down the demogorgon’s throat and will come out victorious
- fakes her smile when she’s in pain. :( please stop putting up a mask Beidou
- Self sacrifice :( hypocrite
Summary: She puts others first. Always thoughtful and considerate of her group and strangers. She’ll shield her teammates with her body and die fighting for their safety.
~
✣ Childe ✣
Role: Exterminator, Helper
Qualities:
- Obviously he’d be excited to kill something. Spine chilling for when he turns back to his group-mates with a wide smile after demolishing a demodog.
- You don’t have to worry because he’ll find the monsters before they find him.
- He makes sure his group sleeps peacefully.
- He’s very skilled with knives but an amateur with guns. Always carrying a pocket knife for protection
- Selfish at first but turns selfless when the group shows kindness towards him
- Extremely loyal. He’ll save you from a demogorgon if you take a bite from a demodog that was meant for him
- the group will be wide eyed when they see him bandaging up a group member’s wound without them asking
- He’s itching to fight but if he’s needed to aid the group, he’s willing to do it
Disadvantage:
- Acts before thinking
- Annoying most of the time (mostly to Ayato)
- Takes the deadliest risks, often almost self sacrificing himself before Beidou stops him
- Often scolded because of his bloodthirsty behavior and because of that, he’ll run off somewhere and return with a few bruises, him often beating a tree because of his irritation
- loud, will attract the monsters to your location quicker
Summary: Childe is a fierce warrior. His combat and brute force helps with surprise attacks from random monsters. Though he often scares some of his fellow teammates, he’ll protect them with his life even if they don’t feel the same.
~
✣ Chongyun ✣
Role: supernatural abilities (Telepathy), main communicator
Qualities:
- He has superpowers “but it’s not as cool as telekinesis” he’d say
- The main communication between when the group splits up. He can talk to them and hear them talk back (in his mind of course)
- doesn’t know why but the monsters seem to avoid him
- Safest way to survive is being near him but he’s also prone to danger when brave demodogs try to bite at him
- Extremely brave and can face the monsters head on. Can use a gun, thankfully. He can aim and shoot.
- One of the most doted members in the group. Especially by Beidou
Disabilities:
- Skittish when around new people. He needs comfort or else he’d die
- Fight or flight? He’d run to a more powerful group-mate, presumably Childe or Beidou, for help
- Nothing triggers him more than being out in the scolding hot sun for hours so he’d have to wear a sun blocking hat for hours which can leave him blinded if he’s fighting a demogorgon or a demodog.
- Pulls out his weapon a little too late since he’s frozen in fear
Summary: Reliable communicator and your own personal charm. You can’t help the feeling of over-protectiveness washing over you when you look at him. He’s just so adorable. It’ll also leave people sacrificing themselves for him if he’s ever in danger but he’ll cry and you wouldn’t want to upset him, do you?
~
✣ Diluc ✣
Role: Protector, Exterminator
Qualities:
- mainly keeps the group together
- Boosts moral amongst the group members, assuring that they will survive and it’ll be okay
- Also becomes a protector if necessary. I see him throwing a giant rock at a demodog cause it was chasing after Chongyun or something
- Experienced with any kinds of weapons unlike Childe
- No spare demodogs will leave alive if he’s with you. He’ll protect with his life, often exhausting himself when trying to kill those suckers
- If the group is hungry, he whips up something to eat even if food is scarce. He uses his environment to his advantage like Albedo.
- Acts and thinks when he’s in a fight. He’s not careless.
Disabilities:
- Has favorites. He’s just more prone to protecting the ones he likes more but will protect nonetheless
- Unfeeling in his answers. His teammates think he hates them but he doesn’t
- Feelings contradicts his actions. He’s also a slight hypocrite, “Stop trying to die.” sir you ran head first into the upside down
Summary: Diluc is a good teammate if you’re caught in a life or death situation. He also wouldn’t believe you at first but if you can show him real evidence, he’ll believe you without a problem. He’s a silent protector, always protecting others without expecting anything back. His lies harsh but it’s only if it’s for the benefit of the group. He’ll fight his way out, not dying if something kills him.
~
✣ Kaeya ✣
Role: Enthusiast, Planner
Qualities:
- Once he decides to help, he is loyal to helping
- Plans and maps things out in his mind. Also protects the group dodge deadly traps
- The quickest to think of a plan. Caught in a corner with a demogorgon? He smashes it in the face with a book from a shelf in a second.
- Also keeps the cheer in the group. After all, everything is going to get gloomy and sad after a few wounds and deaths
- His presence can drag a person back from depression. It’s just a natural charm that he has
Disabilities:
- Has a rivalry with his brother Diluc. He can’t help but compare his skills to him
- Might get caught up in the head once in a while and slack off
- A planner but the logic isn’t there. Kind of chaotic when he fights, sometimes accidentally injuring his teammates.
- No medical skills, he watches at a corner when one of his teammates patches up the injured one
- Kinda selfish :( He runs first to the exit when he’s in danger
Summary: Like his brother Diluc, he doesn’t believe that monsters from an alternate dimension exist but will amuse you instead of saying he doesn’t believe in you. Spoiler; he gets attacked by a demodog one day and you and the others have to save him. He almost pissed his pants but he acted cocky, saying that he already knew. His loyalty is unquestionably there. If he is fighting a demogorgon with someone, he’ll distract it so his teammate can run first.
~
✣ Ningguang ✣
Role: Role model, Logical
Qualities:
- Very intelligent. Knows more than 15 languages and can decipher codes
- She also puts her teammates in suitable groups based on their skills and she’s good at it
- No one questions her because she has a slightly intimidating aura. People just follow her lead
- kind of a power struggle with Beidou but they respect each other
- Can use a gun and aim. Seriously, she’s really skilled
- Also a charmer, she’s very pretty and it makes it VERY easy to get into restricted areas
Disabilities:
- People assume she’s had a very carefree life and some mock her for it
- She can’t use melee weapons for the life of her. If she’s task to slice a demodog in half, she’ll miss
- Her biggest weakness is gore and blood. Can’t stand it. Especially the smell
- Most likely to freeze when being cornered, staring in fear
Summary: Ningguang is a natural charmer. Her background doesn’t hold her back from fighting monsters. She’s also a natural leader and a role model for her teammates. Her skills in archery and guns are a must have if you’re being stalked by demodogs at a distance. She can even aim in the dark and keep an eye on her group mates while doing so!
~
✣ Thoma ✣
Role: Babysitter figure, Medic
Qualities:
- Can stand the sight of blood and gore only because he got used to it over time :(
- The best medic in the group. Instantly knows what to do. The team always bring the injured to Thoma for help
- Gets along with everyone. Always ignores rumors and dislike towards him but will defend with all his heart if one insults his group mates
- Watches his team carefully if Beidou or Ningguang tells him to
- Also has the best music taste? It doesn’t matter the genre, he’ll calm everyone down with a radio he carries or he just hums the tune
- Takes very good care of his group with precision. Not a single sad look will escape his watch
Disabilities:
- He can’t use guns. Only melee weapons; close range is better for him
- Off field most of the time. If he’s actually fighting, it’d be sporadic, like he’s dancing wildly instead
- Vulnerable when caring for someone injured or unconscious. Will need someone to cover for his back
Summary: He’s always reliable and prepared for the worst. He’s respectful towards the dead and knows the scent of blood very well. He takes care, that’s his role. He’s also very fast and a good sprinter if he were to tag along on missions.
~
✣ Xiao ✣
Role: Exterminator, Protector
Qualities:
- Protecting always comes first in his mind. He’s silent about it.
- Like Diluc, he will defend with his last breath but knows his limits
- His harsh words reflect his feelings
- His calm demeanor also slightly calms everyone down when being cornered by demodogs or a demogorgon
- Can use both melee weapons and guns but prefers close ranged weapons and whatever he can find
Disabilities:
- Oh and if you tell him no, he’ll distance himself from you until you’re being attacked
- Scary but calm. His teammates are intimidated by him to a degree but feel safe when he’s fighting with them
- Doesn’t listen to orders or directions. Always runs off to fight on his own
- Will self sacrifice or be bait willingly if the group is in terrible danger
Summary: Xiao is an interesting case; he’s the group most fierce warrior and the ones who thinks about their safety the best. He’ll scoff and roll his eyes until proven wrong about there being monsters from an alternative universe. He also can ignore the gore and blood because of his past he won’t tell about. Quiet and introverted, you can’t get past his walls but he’ll protect you without hesitation.
~
✣ Xingqiu ✣
Role: Logical, Code fanatic
Qualities:
- A total nerd. He’d get the hang of patterns and cryptic messages real quick
- Often with Albedo discussing answers and explanations
- Also a comfort to Chongyun. He doesn’t know it but Chongyun mostly communicates telepathically with him the most
- Also a huge help when he’s needed
- A good temper. Doesn’t get mad quickly and resolves confrontation with ease
Disabilities:
- Has a hard time because no one believes him at first
- The type to freeze and run.
- Also kinda noisy so he’ll attract the monsters faster. Its unintentional only because some of his teammates suggests to use Chongyun for selfish purposes
- Sometimes jumps at the slightest thing

Prologue(5): Seduction in the Dark
Summary: The once bright and healthy maple leaf crumbled into ashes on your kitchen counter which left you unreasonably terrified. In your fear, you try calling Itto but he doesn’t pick up, finally resorting to call Zhongli. In your relief, he answers and comforts you at your apartment. However, you find yourself in an intimate situation with him! Work calls and you’re running out of the door only to run into someone; literally!
At work; Xiao, a regular at your workplace, finally becomes aware of you! Through your cheering, someone then runs into you, causing a strange exchange and a brand new phone in your hands...
“You’ve reached the powerful Itto! I’m VERY busy at this time so leave your message after the beep!”  beep. Your phone clicked and you groaned in annoyance, “Itto! C’mon just pick up already! This is extremely important!”
You were crouched on the floor with your knees up to your chest. You’ve never felt this terrified before. ‘can’t call Kazuha.’ you cussed, “dammit. Why didn’t I ask for his contact information?!” your phone clutched tightly in your shaking hands.
Scrolling through the contact information, your eyes landed on Zhongli’s name tag. “Please... pick up, Li.”
Ring, Ring, Ring. Click.
“Hello? Y/n?” your friend’s deep voice spoke from deep within your device. You were sweating and shaking, “...yeah.”
   “What’s wrong?”
You took in a breath, “I- uh. There’s something... I don’t know what but I’m scared...”
Rattle.
Your heart jumped, “there’s something here,” you whispered. The phone cackled and glitched for a moment, “Where are you right now?”
The door knocked minutes later and you found yourself in Zhongli’s arms at your door. You cried, that night out of fear. The man’s arms slowly brushed your back in a comforting manner and your puffy face never left his chest.
“What happened?” Zhongli questioned, “are you sure it wasn’t a burglar? A petty thief?”
“No! It’s not possible! I locked the door and live on the fourth floor! They would’ve died trying to climb up or down.” Protesting, you pulled away and clung to your arms protectively.
Zhongli’s eyes heed in response, “y/n, I need you to calm down for a minute.” He gingerly led you to your couch, hand gingerly pressed behind your back, encouraging you. “Please...” you looked at him, tears blurring your vision, “please don’t leave me here alone...”
He smiled reassuringly, “I won’t.”
The feeling of hair tickled your cheeks. Peeking up from your slumber, you caught a picture of Zhongli’s sleeping face. Your ears catching the beating of his gentle heart. You noticed you were laying on top of him on your couch, limbs sporadically spread out on the man. Basically using him as a body pillow and he’d even allow it.
You quickly jump up in surprise, pushing on Zhongli which grunted in his sleep. He’d finally opened his eyes and squinted at you confusingly before he himself got up and stretched. “What’s wrong, y/n?”
   “I- what happened last night?”
He stared at you, baffled, “you don’t remember?”
You couldn’t help the fire on your cheeks and neck, “... did we do something?”
Zhongli’s eyes closed mirthfully, “no, silly. You called because you were scared,” he paused, “you fell asleep after crying.” His gaze darted towards the kitchen, “while you were out, I put away your groceries and checked the apartment.”
He shook his head, “fortunately, there was no one in your home so rest assured.” patting your head soothingly, he hummed in joy.
But to save you from your bashfulness, he never told you about how he and you came to cuddle on the couch together. You scoured through your apartment; the air seemed to be much safer. You were still anxious although it was quickly chased away by the feeling of tenderness. “y/n?” Zhongli looked at you curiously. Snapping out of your strange trance, you smile warmly at him, “I don’t know how you did it but I feel safe and...happy.”
“it’s fine, y/n.” Zhongli rubbed your temples, delighted at your bright smile.
After Zhongli had left, you rushed to prepare for your job. You exited your apartment room in a blind hurry and tackled someone to the floor, eyes blurring from the impact.
Olive eyes emerged into your view as soon as you focused in. “Geez you have a way to greet someone, don’t cha?” the owner of the eyes called up from under you.
“wha-?” you were quickly but gently shoved off of a guy with silky maroon hair, his eyes closed from the pain.
You scrambled up, and offered a hand to the guy to which he glared at before carefully taking. He got up and dusted his clothes, “What’s up with you? Don’t cha know not to run in the hallways?” he frowned.
“I’m deeply sorry!” you bowed your head apologetically, “I’ll make it up to you, later Mr...?”
“Shikanoin.” he crossed his arms, “Shikanoin Heizou.”
“Mr. Shikanoin! I’m sorry! Let me give you my contact information!” you rushed to your bag, pulling out a note pad and pen, “I’ll make it up to you after my job, promise!”
His hand took your note and he scrunched his nose. You waved at him before disappearing into the elevator, your head hung in shame.
You were acutely aware of the stares people on the streets gave you. Speed walking to your work place, you shut the glass door behind you and rushed behind the counter. Kazuha wasn’t here today, it was his time off and it was bothering you for some reason.
Your coworkers were too busy to notice a particular grumpy face show up at the counter. “Good morning, Xiao. The regular?” you asked, tying your apron rigorously. Xiao only nodded and went to sit at his usual table, far from the other customers and away from view.
Once done with his drink, you carefully placed it on his table, his eyes never looking up from his phone but he silently thanked you by the slight nod of his head. You smiled genially, accepting the money he left on the table for you. He was silent and never bothered anyone much so he got away with staying longer than usual. You’d often find his sharp glances when you left the cafe but always made sure to smile politely as you headed out.
Today, however; he approached you with a shy look. “May I get a refill...?” his eyes are dancing away and towards you and his fingers fidgeting with his sides.
“Of course!” You gladly took his offer and pranced around the station. ‘What a surprise! He actually spoke to me!’ your excited thoughts were proudly displayed on your face. Turning to Xiao, you noticed his gaze became softer but he darted away when you scanned his figure closely.
“Here you go!” his drink was passed to him gently. Money was already on the counter and a flustered Xiao admiring you quietly. It was kind of nerve wracking to look into his eyes. With him being a regular here, you never interacted with him for too long and had never noticed how handsome he looked up close.
“...thanks.” He took his drink, leaving you at the counter quickly and staring at his back in a daze. Your reply came a little late, “...you’re welcome...”
At the end of your job at Moth Cafe, you walked out of the glass doors with exhaustion. You glanced at Xiao at his usual table and smiled softly when he noticed your gaze on him. He unexpectedly waved at you and returned to his phone seconds later.
Once out of the building and a few steps away, your phone was out of your pocket and panicked at the amount of notifications from an unknown number. “Hey. Are you out of work?” one of the messages read. Furiously blinking, you opened the chat and came face to face with Heizou’s angry messages. “Christ...” your head was spinning from the amount of spam he plagued your device with.
Your headache worsened when a tall and lithe figure ran into you, face meeting a hard chest. Next thing you know, you were on the ground with your phone cracked open. “So sorry!” a male voice caught your attention.
Dull ocean blue eyes studied you from above, “Oh my. You’re a cute little thing, aren’t you?”
“The hell’s your problem!?” you grunted, gripping his outstretched hand tightly to boost yourself up but only for a slight limp to catch you by surprise.
The stranger tilted his head at your phone, “sorry for your phone, cutie.” his hands reached into his small bag he carried prior to ramming into you, “lucky for you, I accidentally bought this phone today. Please accept it for damaging your old one.”
Your eyebrows quirked up, “How do you accidentally buy a phone!?”
“Haha. Here.” a box was shoved into your hands, “Goodbye, cutie! Hope we’ll meet again!” you were bewildered at the strange man. His orange locks of hair contrasted the dark jacket he wore as he jogged away quickly.
It was then you noticed a crowd of people were staring at you, some snapping pictures and some had envious looks on their faces. Your neck flushed and it almost felt too uncomfortable for the hoodie that you were wearing for the cold air.

Prologue(4): King of Wine
Summary: As tomorrow comes, you come across a maple leaf Kazuha had given you since you two had visited Maple Hill together. Curiously, the leaf was still fresh and it seemed to glow over the days that passed being removed from its tree. While at work you encountered Diluc, the stranger that slammed into you without apologizing with his heart, at your work ordering from you. You become irritated until you learn that he’s the owner of Dionysus, a popular beverage store. After your encounter, you come home to something...strange...
Luckily, the coffee incident with Ayato had made it possible to bond with him. You were at least a bit self conscious when the customers stared at you for too long but their line of sight was quickly cut off by Ayato’s body shielding you protectively. After work, you gratefully thank him and he smoothly smiled at you. “You’re the most welcome, y/n. I’m sorry for startling you.” You brushed it off and headed back to your home in the calm night.
Beep. Beep. Beep. Your alarm sang wildly. Wednesday, another work day. You pushed yourself off your bed, feet touching the cold carpet of your bedroom. Beep. Beep. Beep. You turned off your alarm and opened your eyes. Sleep clung tightly to your fatigued body. Sitting up with a huff, you stretched, “Mmgh.”
Auto piloting your body, you got ready for the day, your hand unconsciously reaching to your coat pocket and discerning a maple leaf in your hand. But it hasn’t dried or looked brittle; it looked bright and healthy. “The hell...?”  You brought it up to your eyes for closer examination. The maple leaf flickered and blinked like a light bulb prettily. Strangely, a feeling of contempt washes over you like waves.
You carefully placed the vivid orange leaf down on the kitchen counter, deciding to face the situation further when you got home from work. Locking your apartment door behind you and took your usual route to work, passing by bustling buildings and chatting people.
Walking in, you took off your heavy coat and met Kazuha’s friendly smile with your own. Your apron, perfectly washed and pressed, hanging next to your name tag. “Ayato insisted on washing your apron after the incident.” Kazuha spoke from your shoulder.
You felt a warm sensation bubbling up from deep inside you, which made you almost cry at the feeling. “If you see him again can you thank him for me, Kazuha?” your lips pressed into a squirming smile, unable to contain the warm feeling inside you.
   “Of course, y/n.”
The cafe was busier than yesterday, lots of women asking for a “handsome blue haired man” which you assumed they were talking about Ayato. Rumors started when a couple of women had seem the beauty at Moth Cafe and spread the message to their friends. “Sorry, he’s unfortunately on night duty.” you’d calmly tell them which they responded with pouts and walked out of the cafe with bitter steps.
“Iced cappuccino with double the sweetener to go, please.” a low voice bellowed from above your head. You perked up and made eye contact with familiar vermilion eyes which looked back at you blankly. Nodding unwittingly with surprised eyes, you stared a bit longer before getting to work. “What’s your name, sir?” you asked, carefully pouring and mixing the drink.
He stayed silent as if he’s searching for a random name from his mouth, “...Diluc.”
“Well, Diluc. Nice to see you... again.” your eyebrows raised before falling down sarcastically, “I take it you’ve never been here before?”
“I’m a regular here. I just...don’t come here during the day.” He licked his lips uncomfortably. You looked at him, slightly amused, and gave him his drink before taking the money he offered. His hands brushed against yours which sent a jolt of electricity down your spine. You retracted your hand quickly and gave him a lop sided smile, “Have a good day, Diluc.”
He nodded politely and walked out of the shop, his awkward face hidden from your view, and made his way down the street to disappear into a large crowd.
You felt irked by the presence of the fiery red haired man that raided the cafe. Your annoyance was breaking through the sun shine and rainbows as Kazuha had to drag you into the back room to calm you down. Your other coworkers glanced at you worriedly before returning back to their work with focus.
Next thing you know work was finished and you headed out to buy groceries instead of heading home to your apartment. Your feet wandered into Dionysus, a beverage store, mostly filled with alcohol.
The store was neat; checkered floor boards and oak wood decorated the place. You’ve never been to the store before but the first impression astonished and left your mouth agape. It felt like being sucked into a wine cellar by force but it was quite pleasant.
You walked around, examining the bottles upon bottles of wine carefully. You weren’t a total alcoholic but decided to drown yourself of your anger by drinking. For tonight only.
“Do you need any help?” A familiar voice from behind you sent you spiraling to exasperation. You know who that was immediately. You spun around, reluctantly, and gave him a fake smile. “No thank you, Diluc.”
Diluc’s deep red eyes trained on you carefully, “I’m...sorry for bumping into you at Hell’s Chicken.” Your skepticism showed when he quickly added, “I’m not the best at communicating but I’m truly sorry for causing you any discomfort.” he lowered his eyes in a gentlemanly bow.
You were bewildered, cheeks flushed and stepping back carefully, “It’s... alright. I’m sorry for running into you.”
His eyes locked into yours but you both looked away sheepishly. “I- uh recommend the grape wine if you were looking for an alcoholic beverage.”
“Oh. Of course.” you nodded timidly. Your fingers twirl helplessly at the uncomfortable atmosphere. “So uh... you drink alcohol?”
Red eyes widen slightly, “oh, no I-” he relaxed, “-I actually own this place.”
“W-what!?” you stepped back in shock, “own this place? Are you- bluffing?”
Diluc gave a tense smile and nodded, “I actually came here to check up on this place.” You somewhat doubted him but there was a truthful glow to his words. ‘did I just get catty at a WINE OWNER!?’ you mentally cursed yourself and nervously laughed, “...Sorry...”
“What are you doing here anyways? You don’t look like a person who drinks.” He remarked, his focus was now at a the shelf behind you, fingers grazing the wine bottles carefully. “To tell you the truth, I was going to... drink my anger away...” you replied hesitantly which earned a soft laugh from him, “Sounds unhealthy.”
You were home with a bottle of grape wine and a bagfuls of groceries. You didn’t need it now since the shock overwrote your irritation. Diluc had offered to accompany you to your home but refused the offer, leaving him halfway to your apartment. As soon as you stepped inside, the air felt heavy and alarming. You dropped the groceries off quickly and glanced at a withering maple leaf on your kitchen counter.
   “What the...”

Prologue(3): Wild Encounters
<< Previous
Summary: Life’s gotten a bit wild. Your home feels a bit more comfortable when you’re alone. On your day off, Itto invites you to a restaurant known for the spiciest dishes in the world! When enjoying your time, you unexpectedly bumped into a stranger which made Itto distance himself from you. It wasn’t the only unlucky encounter, though. At work the next day, Kazuha introduces you to Ayato, a Moth Cafe employee who only works night shifts. You suddenly found yourself alone in a room with Ayato, embarrassed.
It was midnight when you got home from the visit to Maple Hill with Kazuha. He told you to keep the maple leaf as a reminder of the place. You never bat an eye to his suggestion just only tucking the leaf away in your coat pocket safely. ‘He was nice.’  you thought, slipping your coat off and relaxing into the couch. Your reflection taunted you in the black screen of your TV.
It was already morning; Tuesday. On Tuesdays, you didn’t have work so you continued on your mundane tasks with an extra bounce to your step. Always, you left your home during your time off but today felt different. It was a huge impact from the gloomy and cold atmosphere you were used to. The air felt sweet, almost. You couldn’t quite place the feeling but it was more than comforting, the feeling of being hugged by a soft blanket.
A series of knocks on the door made your heart pound lightly. “y/n? ya home?” Itto’s voice was suppressed by the door. You were surprised, “Uh- yeah! Be right there!”
The door opened to Itto, his boyish grin oh so very excited to see you. “Sup, sucker!” he ruffled your hair playfully yet his grin faltered slightly. “What’s wrong, Itto?”
“-Oh! Er, nothing! Nothing at all!” It made you concerned but you pretended not to notice his growing paranoia.
“You wanna head down to Hell’s Chicken? Heard they’ll give the first sixty customers a free meal WITH their signature hell chicken wings!” His face peered into yours with childish thrill.
You snickered, “Sure, whatever. But if I get sent to the hospital for the chicken, you’re paying my bills!”
“Whaaat? It’s not my fault you can’t handle chili peppers!”
“Itto, they use reaper chili peppers!”
   “Same difference!” he huffed.
The restaurant smelled like hell fire. Typical for a place that serves spicy food. They even made a extremely fiery drink for the spice fanatics which you stayed clear from. “May I take your order?” A lithe waiter walked up to a table Itto and you were stationed at.
“Yeah, I would like a hell salad with your signature hell chicken wings,” Itto smiled, “Oh and something more softer for them” he looked at you. You rolled your eyes, “Something less spicy, please.”
   The waiter nodded, “Anything else?”
   “Hm... maybe the fettuccine pasta.”
“Excellent choice,” the waiter turned to Itto, “The hell chicken wings will be free since you’re the fifty-ninth customer to order it.”
You could see the excitement flicker in his eyes. His internal scream of happiness exposed on his face with a simper. “Thank you, sir!”
Your food arrived in minutes. The smell in the air becoming less intoxicating as you chatted away. You can sniff the large amount of chili peppers that dusted Itto’s crimson chicken wings and the spicy salad he’s order for himself. “Good luck, Itto.” you consider watching him before cringing at the sight of him biting down on the drowned wing.
   “How is it?”
   He looked up, “Sweet and-”
Your face contorted to a smile, “and?”
“Shit! This is hot as fuck!” his face flamed, flapping his hands wildly trying to calm the fire in his taste buds and throat. Glazed red eyes stared at you, a few tears escaping down his eyes. His fingers glide to wipe the tears away before you stopped him with a hand on his wrist. “What-? oh.”
You reached some napkins and handed them to Itto with a laugh.
“You okay?” Itto’s eyes glanced down at you, his tears staining his cheeks, jacket lightly drenched in sweat. “Feel fantastic.” he huffed almost proudly.
You playfully punched his side, “Obviously. You attacked those wings like a champ.”
“Well duh!” he sniffed dramatically, “I am the great Itto, after all.”
Him and you were preparing to leave. You stood up and someone had crashed into you, leaving you to stumble back in a recoil. “What the-?”
“...sorry.” a monotone voice rumbled from the crown of your head. You goggled a pair of vermilion eyes. The stranger turned slightly to avoid eye contact. His hands, that you never noticed, leaving your waist quickly and speeding away from you.
“Wow. Okay.” you felt disappointed, not because you wanted him to stay there a little longer but because you never felt a sincere apology from him. You stared at the man’s back, his fiery red hair was in a high pony tail which swayed back and forth slightly as he walked. You turned back to Itto, who has been unusually quiet.
Your hand rested on the table, “Let’s go.”
It was strangely quiet when walking to your apartment. Itto’s tears never stopped cascading down his cheeks. His left hand was clutched around a damp paper napkin that was falling apart with every step he took. “Itto. What’s the matter?” you both were at your apartment door now. Itto hummed in response, “Nothing.”
Breathing out, you opened the door and stepped inside. “You coming?”
“I- er no worries, y/n. I’ll crash at my place. See ya.” He released himself from your stare and rushed down the hall. Dejected, you hesitatingly shut the door, your feelings lightly scarred from the behavior your best friend is giving you. You took a look at your living room, a deep sigh leaving you. The feeling of comfort quickly rushing at your nerves that calmed you almost instantly. Your home felt empty but at the same time, you can smell the sweet scent of bliss.
Wednesday rushed at you the following morning. Work was calling for you and you obligated groggily, leaving your apartment and into the soft smell of caffeine at the Moth Cafe. “Good morning, y/n.” Kazuha smiled gently at you. He was softly scrubbing away at a table near the glass pane doors. You smiled back, pleasantly surprised at the greeting. A pair of eyes biting at the back of your head. You turned to the counter where a man with light blue hair was looking at you curiously. “Hi?” confusion spiked your facial features.
Kazuha turned to the blue haired man and nodded, “That’s Ayato, he does night shifts here. However, due to things, he’s on day shift for today.”
“That’s right.” Ayato walked in front of you, a graceful grin danced on his handsome features. He took out his hands and hung them in front of you. “Pleasure to meet you, y/n” he took your hand readily and placed a peck on them. His eyes made you blush furiously, “Um! Yeah! Thank you... I mean you too!”
Pulling away, you adverted your eyes. Kazuha gave a small entertained laugh, “Always the charmer.”
You couldn’t help the nervousness that tailed after you. Ayato’s gaze never left you. Even if he’s caught staring at you, he’ll give you the most heart melting smile. Sometimes, you’ll take a peak at his profile for your own but would glance away the second he moves. Kazuha found the exchange hilarious, often winking at you more than once. You couldn’t focus with the two constantly making you a giant nerve ball.
“y/n.” Ayato’s voice spooked you. Your hands, which were intently focused on brewing a coffee had jolted sharply, spilling the beverage on your apron, the hot drink seeping into your shirt. “Oh. Shit.” Ayato dropped everything he was doing and rushed towards you, his hands quickly untying your soaked apron and throwing it on the floor. He rushed you into the back rooms and grabbed a couple of paper towels and napkins.
you sat down on a chair as he closed the door from the prying eyes of the customers. “I’m so sorry, y/n” He pressed the napkins to your shirt.
You couldn’t help a few tears that pricked your eyes. You were remarkably embarrassed. Ashamed of your mistake but the worry in Ayato’s eyes cushioned the strike of humiliation that burned at your core.
“Are you hurt at all? Any burns?” He gently pried.
“N-no. I’m okay.” your voice shook with a shudder, “I’m okay. Promise.”
His violet eyes narrowed slightly, “...alright.” he pretended not to notice. You felt comforted by his consideration but also felt bad. It wasn’t directly his fault but you could see the hurt and self blame in his eyes. You giggled softly, “you look almost like a lost puppy.”
Ayato looked at you in disbelief, “..huh?”
“You know- like a baby dog?”
“I know what a puppy is but-” he continued with an awkward smile, “sure, y/n.” Chuckling breathlessly, he added, “no one’s compared me to a puppy before. I’m... aghasted to say the least.” raking a hand through his hair, he stood up straight which made you notice the distance his face from yours. The scent of soft cologne dispersing delicately.
“Ayato, I need you up at the counter. I can’t handle this much people by myself.” Kazuha peeped from the door. His eyes viewed the room and he smiled at you with tenderness before disappearing again, the door shutting quietly in his absence. Ayato stared at you for a bit longer before waving goodbye. You were left in the room contemplating the situation.

Prologue(2): Comfort
<< Previous
Summary: Scaramouche and you ended on bad terms ever since he had stormed up to your door and gave you a piece of his mind. Conflicted; you confine in Zhongli, your friend, who tells you to talk to him. Excitedly, you do just that but only to be hit with rejection when you extend your hand towards him. At work, Kazuha, your coworker notices your gloomy state and offers to cheer you up...
Ever since the incident with Scaramouche, you’ve noticed he kept his distance with you. Every time you’d head out of your apartment at the same time as him, he’d groggily step back inside and shut the door loudly. It was confusing but you were grateful for the avoidance. Every time Itto slept over every Saturday, you’ll always make sure to keep it mellow. Even if he made courageous attempts to ‘put the little guy in his place’.
As the days fleeted, you were aware of the scowls and irritated puffs he threw your way. It was getting kind of nerve wracking and felt your resolve slowly cracking. It was then your phone pinged; a message from Zhongli, “tea?”
Of course you accepted. He was a very good listener and a good friend of yours. Maybe he can give you advice about your current situation on the grumpy next door neighbor.
Zhongli gave you a silent chuckle as you trauma dumped on him. Both of you were at a small table at Moth Cafe, away from the passing eyes from strangers. “Your neighbor,” his eyes slightly flashed golden, “is avoiding you?”
“Yes!” you put your drink down, “that was the whole point of my rambling!” fatigue you never known was there evoked a low sigh from you. Zhongli’s eyes seemed to pity you, “would you like some advice?”
   “give it to me.”
The man’s eyes lowered, “I know you apologized but it seems this guy is beyond forgiving but try to create a comforting distance until he’s less skittish. Try to understand his perspective-”
“Zhongli. This is Scaramouche that we are talking about. He’s not going to listen to what I have to say!” you retorted. You never understood that man, your neighbor, essentially your next door roommate. Taking a sip of your drink, you merely made a weary face. “Use force, then.”
“What?” your ears surged up in interest. You looked at the gentleman with wide eyes, “use force?” you repeated. Zhongli nodded, “yes, some people just need to be pushed a little for words to fall on their ears.”
“Wow, Mr. Zhongli, I never expected you to speak that way, “ your lips quirked up in a teasing smile, “what other things are to be learned by the gentleman in front of me?” Zhongli stared at you for a while longer before his eyebrow raised slightly, “y/n, I’m certain your mood swings are to blame. First, you’re groggy and now you are teasing me.”
You smiled at him, “sorry, Zhongli. Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it, really!” you jumped out of your seat, “also, you can order as many as you like,” you pointed to the drinks and deserts at the table, “my treat for your words of advice!”
He mirrored your smile, “no problem, y/n”
You darted out of the cafe and sped-walk to the local supermarket in excitement but fear soon took over when you were at the front door of the dreaded Scaramouche. He was home, you could tell, small noises of his TV was suppressed by the door. “I can’t do this!” you were panicking and the loud beating of your heart made you scramble back in worry.
Scaramouche’s perfect scowl was now at the opened door. “...what?” you stared at him, blankly. “What is it?” his voice hammered at your heart. “Crap. Uh- yeah so- I’m sorry for the noise and-” you hoisted up the bag in your hand, “cookies...?”
He gave you an alienated look, “the fuck? I’m not buying this shit. Leave me alone.” a slam of a door was all that was left before you were standing alone in the hallway again. You huffed, “...well more for me, then.” you couldn’t help the feeling of rejection gnaw at your heart.
Monday came, you were at the Moth Cafe for your regular shift but you were a sight for sore eyes. Dark eye bags made their appearance on your lovely face and Kazuha couldn’t help but be concerned. “What’s the matter, y/n?” your coworker inquired gently. His crimson eyes bore into yours like a drill, searching deep.
“No sleep. Sorry for worrying you, Kazuha.” you rubbed at your eyes gently hoping to make them disappear but to your disappointment; they didn’t. “Care to join me after work?” Kazuha asked politely. In agreement, you nodded without thinking much about it. Somehow the weight on your shoulder seemed lighter, almost.
It was getting dark, your footsteps are the only comforting sounds that flutter in your ears. People’s chatting drowned out when Kazuha appears in front of you, wearing a soft smile, “Let’s go.”
“Sure,” you glanced at him, “where are we going, exactly?”
   “Maple Hill.”
It never occurred to you that Maple Hill was THAT far. He had made you walk an entire kilometer stating happily that “it’s good exercise!” And of course the entire walk up the hill was atrocious. However, the walk was worth it. The glitter of the stars and the night sky was unimaginable. You closed your eyes and took in a breath, feeling the scent of sweet maple leaves on your tongue.
Kazuha chuckled mirthfully beside you, “I often wander up here when I’m battling my thoughts and hoped you could win your battle too.” You peeked at his profile, he was stunning. His eyes never wandered from the twinkling of the stars but for only a brief moment before plucking a maple leaf off its branch to hand it to you.
You accepted his offer with frozen hands, his equally as cold as yours. “...maple leaves symbolize strength and endurance. There are many symbolisms but I like the idea of strength,” he grinned faintly, “emotional strength, and physical.”
You couldn’t help the blush creeping from your neck. “Thank you, Kazuha.” It was silent from there on. The comforting silence as the two of you stood watching the stars.

✦ Haunting Love ✦
Prologue: Comfy Home
Summary: You return home from work and find your dearest friend Itto waiting for you. He often has his ritual of sleeping over at your apartment every Saturday. You never mind it, whenever he’s over, the cold and haunting sensation of your home fades into a quiet peaceful abode. However, you’re met with Scaramouche from the apartment next door and leaves a bitter yet confusing taste in your mouth.
There was nothing better than a home to walk into after a job. The smell of sandalwood and lilacs flew at your face when you opened the door to your apartment. You weren’t always a neat freak but neither a slacker either. Your home was a perfect balance of dust and feather duster.
The audible noises of your newly purchased TV, the rustle of a grocery bag you were carrying, and the familiar chuckle of Itto in your living room made it obvious it was the weekend. Every Saturday, Itto would welcome you back from your job as a barista by barging in your home and watch some comedy shows. He would, of course, spend the night to your surprise and leave in the afternoon. You never spoken up about his odd behavior because you already knew what would come out of his frivolous lips; “trynna protect the sleepyhead from any monsters!” he would blabber about topics that would make you listless.
“Hey, the great and powerful Itto, you up for some dinner?” you locked the door behind you. It was the start of fall and the air was getting a nip at your fingertips. The door handle felt like ice.
“Oh, hey y/n! You’re back!” Itto’s cheery voice echoed off the walls. His presence made everything somewhat warm. You couldn’t explain the feeling. It was like walking into a childhood dream.
You haven’t noticed the man was towering over you until you looked up. He was smiling down at you expectantly and gave you a crushing hug. His body was warm, not too hot nor cold. Playfully, you pushed him away and gave him a friendly pat on the arm. You and Itto were just friends. It was genuinely what made you talk to him in the first place. You were lost in a world without much and he was your escape artist. You weren’t ready for a relationship yet.
Itto puckered his lips joyfully which earned him a soft slap to his face. He pouted and crossed his arms, “I can NOT believe you just denied me of my hug.”
You chuckled, “Well, the almighty Itto, I apologize severely for my crimes. Please, let me serve your majesty with some almond delights.”
“Hmm. I suppose. As long as you ain’t poisoning me with beans.” he rubbed his chin and accepted with a close eyed smile. He happily took the bag in your hand and sped to the living room. It was these moments that made you happy and the small details he appreciated the most. You joined him on the couch and plucked a couple of the almond snacks you’ve snatched up after your shift at work.
It was beyond late into the night. Itto was passed out on the couch and the TV was still running. You looked over at him and smiled, “...always a snorer, huh?” he grunted in response. Getting up from your spot on the couch and finding a blanket or two to drape over his unconscious form and turned off your TV with a sigh.
Steadily making your way to your bedroom, you attentively got ready for bed. As you tucked yourself into bed, sighing contently at the blankets. You closed your eyes and drifted to sleep once time had let go of you.
It was early in the morning as light assailed your eyes. The morning brought you lazy tears. A loud commotion woke you up lightly. It was muffled screaming and complaints from beyond your door. Irritated and fatigued, you tread lightly to the door to examine the birth of the noise and found yourself staring at Itto verbally assaulting Scaramouche which he rebounded back with some harsh words of his own.
“You.” Scaramouche hissed, his vivid navy blue eyes flashed towards you. His bed hair slightly tangled and his face was contorted to anger. “Kill the fucking noise. I swear, if you and your boyfriend over here won’t shut up, I will have you kicked out of here in the blink of an eye.”
“Woah, hey, you do not talk to y/n like that, little guy.” Itto’s face changed to anger, which is out of character for someone like him.
“I’m sorry, sir. I’ll keep the noise level low from now on. I promise.” your voice was hoarse but it showed respect. However, it didn’t deject Scaramouche at all, “Listen to me, you little shit, this might be the first warning but if you dare break that silly promise of yours, I will leave you homeless.” He stormed off without another word.
Visibly frustrated, Itto slammed the door after throwing the finger behind Scaramouche’s back. “What is that guy’s problem!?” he uttered furiously, his eyes glared at the door for a couple of minutes before staring at you. It was surprising that you haven’t shed tears by now. You looked on in bewilderment than anything. “Y/n, aren’t you upset?” Itto shook your shoulder.
   “Hm? Oh, no.”
“Why? He had the balls to yell at you. No one insults my best friend while I’m alive!” He punched his chest, determine to make it up to you. However, you stared changelessly at the door. Scaramouche? The one who you see feeding the stay cats behind the apartment every morning? Threatening you?

★Their reactions to a deez nuts joke★
!!Obviously this is a head cannon pls don’t hit me ok!! trying my best ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
☆characters: Ayato, Diluc, Kaeya, Kazuha, Thoma, Zhongli☆ x GN Reader(separate)
☆Warnings: Crack, Fluff
Ayato: Ok this man will look you straight in the eyes while smiling. SMILING? why are you smiling, sir? I just told you fitness wiener in your mouth. Please give us another reaction. You’re no fun at all.
Ayato stares at you for a couple of minutes, “Ah. I see.” he turns away from you and stares off into the distance as if he’s trying to process the joke. He, of course, gets it but it never occurred to him that it’ll come out of your mouth like that.
You stare at his neck in disbelief, opening your lips to let out a retort but he turns back to you and beat you to it, “you’re aware telling these kinds of jokes to the Yashiro commissioner is beyond rude, right?” he lets out a mirthful chuckle when he sees you crumble. Your face beet red and your mouth hanging in astonishment.
“I-I’m sorry-” you try to apologize but he playfully messes up your hair in a rough head pat. His eyes soften when he sees your eyes dart around embarrassingly. He absolutely loves seeing you squirm around uncomfortably while he toys with you.
“You know.” he taps his chin, “you can make it up for me by buying me boba for two weeks.”
Oh lord your pockets are going to be diminished by the third day.
______________________________________________________________
Diluc: He will look like a kid lost in the supermarket. Where is he and what happened to his precious y/n?? Will ask you many questions regarding Kaeya. Did he influence you? What do you mean Deez nuts?? Is this normal behavior? You will have to calm him down cause he will get deathly worried.
Your redhead is obviously distressed. You have been bombarded with questions like, “what happened while I was gone?” and “It’s Kaeya. It’s Kaeya, isn’t it?” his deadpan face lightly crinkles with worry as you stare innocently back up at him. A small sinister smile painted on your face as your arms are wrapped around him to support his emotional state.
“It’s okay, Diluc. It’s not the end of the world,” your head sat neatly on his chest. He lets out a deep sigh and clutches your body tightly. Of course you’re a total crackhead but you presented yourself as an innocent and lovable significant other to Diluc as to not scare him away.
Diluc’s worry subsided when he pulls away and stares at your face while observing you intensely.
“y/n” his voice hardened, “if Kaeya didn’t influence you then...” suddenly he realized:
His deadpan face is back while you smiled innocently at him. It’s going to take a while to adjust to this new life style.
______________________________________________________________
Kaeya: Oh man this guy would be SO proud. Just imagining him and you going around pulling dick jokes at random people would have him howling in laughter. He would absolutely attack you with kisses after deez nutting his CD collection. But your laugh after pulling the joke has him on cloud nine.
Kaeya smiled brightly as he tackled you to the ground while in a laughing fit with you. Desperately stopping his laugh but yours made him want to laugh some more. He’d never known you had such a...side to you.
His arms slung around your body as your head rested on his heaving chest. Your bodies tightly clung together while happy sighs replace your roaring laughter.
“Heh...nice one, y/n.” Kaeya looked down at you lovingly. His eye shone with happiness and content while yours reflected back the same emotions. His gloved hands reaching to stroke your warm cheeks, moving to your hair. “Mm.” you managed to mumble out a reply while your eyes closed, comforted by the slight massage in your scalp as Kaeya carefully combed his fingers through.
“I’ve never been this happy before.” He breathed out quietly.
You, still in his arms, nuzzled into his chest to taste his warmth. You’ve never been this happy either.
______________________________________________________________
Kazuha: He stares at you and lets out a tiny “huh?”  This is out of character for you. Perhaps you’ve eaten something suspicious or have been so sea sick and this is the way to cope? He’ll get to the bottom of this somehow.
“Mm-hm.” was all he gave you. You visibly pouted which made him chuckle, “what’s wrong, y/n? You offered me pizza.”  Your face scrunched up in confusion, “What? no, I said did you want a pizza deez nuts.” Kazuha looked at you knowingly and nodded his head, “sure.”
“Do you...do you get the joke...?” you looked on in awe at this man’s nonchalant reply. You couldn’t help the feeling of dread nip at you as his eyes never left yours. His hands gently flew to your shoulders, “of course.”
in confusion, you looked away from his gaze and gave a strangled giggle. You couldn’t help it. It was a really strange reaction for a deez nuts joke. He looked calm but almost...concerned...?
“Hey.” Kazuha’s voice is suddenly in your ear, “I would absolutely love some pizza.”
Your panicked face had him dying of laughter inside. It shows a little when his shoulders start to tremble.
______________________________________________________________
Thoma: Mm. He can multitask. He’ll be sweeping the floors while you walk up and tell the joke. He’ll laugh a little at first but began to process it while you stand there with a smile on your face. Blushing a little, he will finish his chores faster in order to interrogate you. You? a person who looks like a pure cinnamon roll into deez nuts jokes? Unlike Diluc, he doesn’t have a mental breakdown but gets quite worried.
Thoma rushes over to you once he’s done his cleaning, “y/n!” he practically runs into you at the speed he’s going. He quickly sits you down and starts throwing questions at you. After his session, he looks at you intensely while you manage to throw out a “it was a joke.”
His face fell and you had to contain your laughter behind your hands. He starts nervously laughing until it grew into genuine laughter. Of course he’d been teased by Ayato, the head Yashiro commissioner on numerous occasions. But; when you do it, it felt like you were bullying him.
You cradle his face in your hands and give him butterfly kisses for the joke and he blew up in a crimson red. He silently exchange kisses with you with a quick hug before getting up to prepare lunch.
“See you soon, y/n! I’ll make sure to cook your favorite!” He smiled.
Little do you know, he would absolutely love to hear your deez nuts jokes again.
______________________________________________________________
Zhongli: Deadpans you. Obviously what do you expect he’s old enough to be your great great great great- you get the joke- grandpa. He’s heard enough deez nuts joke cause ‘these young un’s’ keep blasting it everywhere. But for your sake, he’ll give you a little smile and pat your head lovingly. I’d rather it be “I heard that one” than this. If he hadn’t heard the deez nuts joke before he will chuckle a little.
Zhongli gives you a blank stare but his lips quirk up a bit in a smile. “y/n, dear, are you inviting me to something?” your face flushed red at the thought, “What? No...” your unconscious fidgeting of your fingers told him otherwise.
Nothing escapes his watchful eyes. “Hm. perhaps you are.” You two were sitting down for some tea and you made a playful conversation about Kenya. He asked about Kenya and you blurted out “Kenya fit deez nuts in your mouth?”  Now, regretting your moment, you shrunk back and let out a soft sigh.
Zhongli’s hard expression soften, you looked very out of place and vulnerable. He decided to throw in a deez nuts joke of his own in order to make you smile.
“y/n.”
“...yeah?”
“Do you want candy?”
“sure, I guess-”
“Can-deez nuts hit your face?”
DJSHFCUCSEHCNF WHAT.
