Your laughter filled the night air, as Bucky started tickling you mercilessly. Swatting his hands away was of no use; he was much quicker than you anyway.
He took a step back, breathless from laughter as well. There he stood, tall and proud in his uniform.
'The 107th', he had said with a smile. There was determination in his voice - and sadness. He was proud to be a part of the army; yet at the same time he didn't want to leave you behind. Who knew when you two would see each other again?
The sand was cool and calming beneath your feet, the night breeze fresh and clear. Rockaway Beach was rarely this peaceful. It was usually filled with joy, laughter and music. But at midnight? There was nothing to be heard an seen. Nothing but two young lovers dancing underneath the moon and the stars, sharing their last night together - at least for the time being.
Bucky hummed a melody as he gently held you close to him, swaying to the rhythm of the waves coming and going.
Smiling, you closed your eyes, remembering the time you first heard that song. Your first dance with Bucky, at a summer party of a mutual friend.
You sighed blissfully, resting your head on his shoulder. Sweet memories...
The sound of thunder ripped you out of your thoughts. Tears blurred your vision as another lightning cracked through the night sky. The gramophone played your song in the background.
Your song.
Yours and Bucky's.
"Up, up, a little bit higher,
oh, my, the moon is on fire."
He was dead.
Bucky was dead.
The words his best friend spoke minutes ago still echoed in your mind. Steve's massive frame seemed so fragile again all of a sudden. He was broken, too, in his own way. He lost his best friend.
You had lost your love.
The recording crackled gently, as the last notes of the song played, filling the suffocating silence in yours and Bucky's tiny apartment.
"Come, Josephine, in my flying machine,
going up all on..."
A song that once filled you with love, and joy, and giddyness - now bringing nothing but anger, hate and sadness to you.

“Grilled. Whole. Or as Sashimi.”
You smiled softly, remembering Tobirama’s words as you carefully turned the salmon on the grill. Fresh salmon from Konoha’s rivers. Just as he liked it.
It was one of the first things you had learned about your husband. He was not much of a talker, but he was gladly answering every question you had asked him – even though it had been awkward at first.
Your marriage had not been built on love and feelings. It was a matter of politics and clan issues. Certainly not the kind of bond you were expecting to have with your spouse.
But you were not unhappy.
After all, you were allowed to choose your husband. Hashirama or Tobirama? And you willingly chose the latter. At that time, you could not understand why you felt more drawn to the younger Senju. You had met him a few times before that day, but never uttered more than greetings and formal small talk.
“I’m home.”
Your smile brightened when you heard the voice that became so familiar to you already. Not even a year had passed since you two got married, and yet his presence already felt calming. Reassuring.
Like home.
“Welcome back!” You answered brightly, stepping out of the kitchen to greet him properly – as properly as you two were comfortable with. A quick hug, a gentle kiss on the cheek, before you took the bento box wrapped in a linen cloth from his hand.
“Thank you,” Tobirama answered, before a small frown settled on his face. He took a deep breath, and a deep hum escaped his throat. “Is that… salmon?” he asked quietly.
You smiled proudly and nodded at him. “Catch of the day, fresh from the market,” you answered, smiling, as you walked back to the kitchen.
Tobirama followed you slowly, stopping right in the doorway.
“But… I thought you hated fish?” he grinned, crossing his arms and leaning against the frame.
“I do,” you answered, looking back at him over your shoulder. “But you love it, don’t you?”
He blinked a few times, before a smile pulled at the corners of his lips. “Yes…” he whispered, slowly making his way inside the kitchen. The table was set, dinner almost ready. You were doing so much. So much for him, for this marriage – and never once did you complain.
A warm feeling spread in his chest, and with it the desire to give you something back. But what could he do? You were the woman of the house, you had everything under control. Maybe…
“I’ll be back in a few minutes,” he stated, turning to leave the kitchen again – but stopping once more in the doorway. With quick steps, he went back to you and kissed your cheek; just like you had it done a few minutes ago.
Before you could question him, he was gone. But the feeling on your skin remained. You couldn’t remember a time when Tobirama came back to kiss you – even if it was “just” a kiss on the cheek. Of course, you would kiss during intimate moments, but usually… you were the one initiating. Carefully, you placed your fingers on your cheek; scared that the sensation might go away…
The door to your house was opened and shut again quickly. “I’m home… again,” Tobirama mumbled, making his way back to the kitchen. “Where are… the flower vases?”
You gasped when you turned around and saw him standing there with a huge bouquet of brightly colored chrysanthemums.
“What--?”
“I saw them on my way home,” he answered, that small smile from before settling on his lips again.
You smiled, averting your gaze slightly.
“But… you hate flowers…” you whispered, small tears of joy forming in your eyes.
“I do,” he answered, stepping closer. Gently, he cupped your chin to make you look at him again, smiling down at you.
“But you love them…
