I'm not going to mince words - the Bruins need McQuaid. The last time the burly blue liner missed the playoffs, it was 2012. McQuaid was sidelined with an injury that was later revealed to be a concussion, and Head Coach Claude Julien noted that the imposing defender's bravery and brawn would have been a tremendous asset during the series.

Penalty killing woes, injured defence men, and Girardi's new deal are all reasons why the Bruins are shopping Chris Phillips.

With the Coors Light Stadium Series rolling into Chicago this weekend, you can be sure that there will be plenty of coverage trying to ramp up a Jonathan Toews/Sidney Crosby "rivalry".
So why, then, if these two players are so similar, and have followed similar tracks to the NHL, and have forged similar illustrious careers, is Crosby often maligned as a "whiner" and "diver", while Toews is positively regarded as "Captain Serious"?

Hockey is Finland's national sport (sorry Canada, yours is actually lacrosse). While the Russians likely made a fatal error in not starting Sergei Bobrovsky (CBJ), the Finns still outplayed the Russians. Tuukka Rask was able to successfully kill 3 of 4 penalties, and the fast Finns took advantage of some of the mistakes the Russians made, upsetting the home team.

Canadian Olympic Pride has an Ugly Side
I was horrified with the Olympic camp invitations. Jarome Iginla wasn't invited, and I do not understand how Mike Smith is more suitable than Marc-Andre Fleury. I still believe that Iginla was denied an invitation because he had the audacity to leave Sidney Crosby, the chosen one, and the Pittsburgh Penguins for greener pastures in Boston.

There is a collective sigh of relief coming from Finland (and potentially a few Bruins' fans) that Tuukka Rask was looking great today.

Ellen Page finally came out.
About a week before, NFL prospect Michael Sam came out too.
We’re still waiting for an NHL player to “come out”. It will happen sooner than later.

Russia loses 3-2 to TJ Oshie
No, I didn't just have a seizure on my keyboard - T.J. Oshie actually shot for the Americans in the last five consecutive rounds of the shootout. International hockey rules are such that if you feel like you'd like to just ice a one-man show in the shootout, by all means, you can do it.

Ever heard of a player being called for a penalty while serving a penalty? Well, it technically happened in the Czech Republic’s 4-2 victory over Latvia on Friday, as Czech forward Martin Hanzal was penalized for tripping while theoretically serving a tripping penalty.

When Hockey Canada announced their roster for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi on January 7th, my jaw dropped when Claude Giroux was left off of the roster. This blew my mind because as recently as 2 years ago some viewed Giroux as the best player in the world. As I touched upon a few weeks ago, there is no doubt in my mind that Giroux would’ve gotten the call for Team Canada if he didn’t start the year injured. Obviously for Hockey Canada leaving him off the team was a tough decision, as there are so many deserving players who could’ve made it. In honour of my main man G, and the rest of the deserving Canadian hockey players left off of Team Canada, here is my roster for Team Canada 2.0. This is a team full of Canadians who should've been part of Team Canada if Sochi allowed them to send two teams.
