Genuinely can’t tell you if the bottle incident is related to scott moore or not because my memory is shot to shit. But a ref knocked jonathan bernier’s water bottle off the net and after the whistle todd bertuzzi shot the puck at it. david clarkson and him yell back and forth about it for a hot minute before bertuzzi incredulously goes “what are you, the bottle police?!” and then at one point someone on tumblr goes “leafs aren’t playing like it’s their fuckin water bottle :/“ and it’s just ingrained into my soul.
Carlyle and the toaster: HBO was doing a documentary series on the road to the winter classic, following the leafs and wings around. Phaneuf and Riemer tell Carlyle to use this specific toaster because it actually toasts the bread instead of just warming it. After commenting on the replacement of peanut butter with almond butter, his bread gets stuck in the toaster and he has to call maintenance to get it out.
And uma the puma was revealed in like an hour long video on the leafs YouTube channel just focusing on riels and gards. I really loved this fact because my chemistry teacher had the cheetah version of this plushie and called it peeta the cheetah and before every test he would go “there is but one cheetah in the room, and she is looking at you.” Very important information for you to know
I was not aware of any of this! Excellent and delightful, thank u anon

Author’s Note: Hi!! I’m back with my first fic in what feels like an eternity. The fact that it’s an rpf fic about a rarepair my brain thought of for probably no reason in the middle of that shitshow of a Leafs game last night is something I can probably write a whole dissertation about. But, I’m not gonna and say I did because I don’t think I actually have it in me to write that many words about anything. Anyways! Tyler GIF credit to anotherhockeypage; Zack GIF credit to yours truly.
Warnings: A shoulder injury takes place in this fic (it’s to Zack). There is description of what the injury feels like as well as the use of a makeshift sling. If any of that bothers you, feel free not to read this. Feel free to let me know if I missed anything else and I’ll warn about it for you!
Word Count: 1.2k (literally on the nose LOL)
Title: Hard to Love by Lee Brice
Additional: If you found this by Googling yourself, are in this yourself, or know someone in this, please click back. No harm was meant in the creation of this fic. It’s a work of fiction that was inspired by the fact that Tyler was once an ice hockey goalie for the Jr. Kings in his youth. As for the jerseys I had them both wear... you’ll get a cookie in your ask box if you know why. Anyways! I hope you enjoy this and feedback is always appreciated and welcomed!

As Zack stared down Tyler coming in on a breakaway, he prepared himself in the net. He was trying to remember everything that the aforementioned Tyler had taught him. Don’t commit too early. Don’t overcommit. Stay with the play. It sounded simple enough but seeing how fast Tyler was rushing at him, how he was moving the ball along the pavement... everything was suddenly becoming too much to handle.
Tyler made a move to Zack’s right; Zack moved with him. Apparently, Zack had forgotten one of the rules—don’t commit too early—because Tyler quickly moved back to his left and shot the ball towards the top corner of the net. Zack, in desperation, threw his arm out to try to stop Tyler from getting the goal. As soon as he had done that, he felt something in his shoulder snap in the wrong direction. Instead of stopping the ball as he had intended, he fell to the pavement and groaned in pain.
The ball clanked off the crossbar and deflected into the garage door behind the net It ricocheted back and plunked Zack in the back of the head before it rolled into the net. He barely registered the sound of Tyler cheering because the sound of the pain ruminating in his ears was incredibly intense.
When something touched his non-injured shoulder, Zack jolted in surprise. He had been so lost in his pain that he has forgotten that he wasn’t alone. When he looked up to see who it was, he relaxed when he realized that it was just Tyler. Zack felt something pull tight in his stomach when he saw that Tyler looked genuinely frightened and concerned.
“Zack? What’s wrong, bud?” He asked as he squatted down.
“My shoulder,” Zack said, using his good arm to motion to where it hurt. “I felt something snap when I reached for the ball.”
“Can you sit up?”
Zack nodded as he did as instructed, trying his best to keep as much pressure off of his injured shoulder as he possibly could. Tyler looked at Zack’s shoulder and manipulated it in every possible direction to test its mobility. The entire time, Zack hissed and groaned in pain because it felt like his muscles were going to explode from the pressure that was being put on them.
“I think you snapped your latissimus dorsi muscle,” Tyler said after a few minutes. He laid Zack’s arm flat against his chest. He took off the LA Kings Jonathan Bernier jersey he was wearing and tied it around Zack’s neck like a makeshift sling. “You’ll need to wear that until we can get you into the team trainers.”
“Fuck, alright,” Zack replied as he slipped his arm carefully—and painfully—into the makeshift sling. “Thanks, man. You seem to know your shit. I didn’t realize I was friends with a genius.”
Tyler chuckled as he helped Zack stand up from the pavement. “I was a goalie and that means a lot of weird injuries. You learn a lot of medical jargon from that.”
“Still, man. I’m a catcher and you get some weird ass injuries from that too. Doesn’t mean I know what the hell a latiwhateverthefuck is.”
“Yeah, yeah. I think it’s well-established that you’re mentally adjacent to something a trailer park cat dragged in out of the dumpster.”
Zack huffed in bemusement as he and Tyler walked from the driveway to the front door. Tyler opened it and motioned for Zack to go first. Nodding his thanks and smiling, Zack walked through the door and into the foyer of his house.
“That may be true but you know you still love me all the same.”
“In, um, more ways than one, bud.”
Stopping dead in his tracks, Zack turned around to face the other catcher. He had barely heard what was said because Tyler had inexplicably slammed the front door; it felt to Zack like that had been strategic, almost like Tyler didn’t want Zack to hear him. When Zack looked at Tyler to gauge his reaction, he, predictably, looked scared out of his mind. His arms were crossed over his chest and he was rubbing at his forearms and shifting nervously from foot to foot as he seemed to be trying to look anywhere but at Zack.
“Did you just...?” Zack asked, a dumbfounded expression on his face.
Tyler nodded in response. He had stopped shifting from foot to foot. Instead, he had taken a couple of steps back towards the door, his face looking like he was ready to burst into tears at any moment.
Blinking owlishly, Zack pointed at himself with his hand that wasn’t in the sling. “Feelings... for me...?”
“If that makes you uncomfortable, I can ask for a trade,” Tyler said, his back now flush against the door.
“If you do, I’m asking for a trade to the same team because the way I feel for you is well beyond ‘strictly bros.’”
“It wouldn’t be the fir—excuse me?”
Zack chuckled as he held his hand out. He raised an eyebrow and gave Tyler a rather pointed look. The other catcher nodded so Zack took that as his permission to step forward and into Tyler’s personal space. As soon as he did, Tyler dropped his head against Zack’s good shoulder. Zack pressed a soft kiss to the top of Tyler’s head as he used his free hand to feather his fingers along the skin on Tyler’s side. He smiled into Tyler’s hair when he felt a shiver run up his side at the touch.
“I feel the same way, Ty.”
“Thank you,” Tyler said, though it was muffled by the All-Star Jack Campbell jersey Zack was wearing.
“I think I can honestly say,” Zack paused to press another kiss to the top of Tyler’s head, “this is the first time someone has thanked me for having feelings for them.”
Tyler lifted his head to look at Zack. Zack swallowed thickly when he saw that Tyler’s cheeks and eyes were wet. He grabbed the cuff of his jersey sleeve and took it to wipe away the wetness on Tyler’s face. Tyler responded by grabbing Zack’s wrist and pressing a soft kiss to the inside of it. A warm sensation blossomed at the point where Tyler’s lips met his skin; that made Zack sigh contentedly as he brought his thumb up to run it along Tyler’s cheek.
Smiling, Tyler turned his head ever so slightly and pressed another kiss to the inside of Zack’s wrist. The same sensation blossomed on his skin at the kiss; this time, Zack responded by leaning forward and pressing a kiss to the other catcher’s temple. That made Tyler sigh and wrap one of his arms around Zack’s midsection as he dropped his head back against the good shoulder.
“When you’ve been as unlucky in love as I have,” Tyler said with a sigh. He patted Zack on the back a couple of times before continuing. “You learn to be thankful when something finally goes your way.”
“I’m not like anyone you’ve dated before, man.”
Tyler lifted his head and looked at Zack with a genuine smile. “Why do you think I’m thankful?”

Tumblr media
Dustin Wolf, Goaltender (Calgary Wranglers): Winner of the Baz Bastien Award as the AHL’s top goaltender as a rookie in 2021-22, Dustin Wolf has followed up with another remarkable season, leading the AHL in wins (41), goals-against average (2.08), save percentage (.932), shutouts (7), minutes played (3,120), shots faced (1,594) and saves (1,486). Wolf, a 21-year-old native of Gilroy, Calif., also earned co-MVP honors at the 2023 AHL All-Star Challenge in Laval back in February, and picked up a victory in his NHL debut with the Calgary Flames on Apr. 12. He becomes the first AHL goaltender to garner back-to-back First Team All-Star nods since Bob Janecyk in 1981-82 and 1982-83, and the first ever to do so in his first two pro seasons. Darren Raddysh, Defenseman (Syracuse Crunch): Sixth-year pro Darren Raddysh has had a breakout season in 2022-23, shattering his previous career highs with 13 goals, 38 assists and 51 points in just 50 games played with Syracuse. Raddysh is tied for third in scoring among AHL defensemen despite spending most of the second half of the season in the NHL, where he has skated in 16 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Toronto native also represented the Crunch at the 2023 AHL All-Star Classic. Christian Wolanin, Defenseman (Abbotsford Canucks): Christian Wolanin leads all AHL defensemen with 49 assists and 55 points this season while skating in 49 games for Abbotsford in his first campaign in the Canucks organization. Wolanin, who has also played 16 games in the NHL with Vancouver this year, had a 13-game scoring streak from Nov. 10 to Dec. 9, and participated in the 2023 AHL All-Star Classic in Laval, his second career All-Star nod. Originally a fourth-round pick by Ottawa in the 2015 NHL Draft, Wolanin signed a two-year extension with Vancouver on Mar. 23. Alex Barré-Boulet, Forward (Syracuse Crunch): Alex Barré-Boulet earns his second career postseason All-Star berth with a First Team selection as he ranks second in the AHL in assists (59) and points (82) – both career highs – over 67 games with Syracuse. The fifth-year pro is also tied for third in plus/minus among AHL forwards with a plus-25 rating, and he became the Crunch franchise’s all-time leader in goals, assists and points over the course of this season. A native of Montmagny, Que., Barré-Boulet was previously a Second Team All-Star in 2019-20, and was named the league’s outstanding rookie in 2018-19. Michael Carcone, Forward (Tucson Roadrunners): The AHL’s leading scorer heading into the final weekend of the regular season, Michael Carcone has nearly doubled his previous career high with 84 points (31 goals, 53 assists) in 63 games for Tucson in 2022-23. Carcone also leads the league with 263 shots on goal, and ranks second with his 14 power-play tallies. The seventh-year pro from Ajax, Ont., recorded 30 points during a 15-game scoring streak from Dec. 17 to Jan. 31, the longest in the league this season. Matthew Phillips, Forward (Calgary Wranglers): A 2016 draft pick by his hometown Calgary Flames, Matthew Phillips has set career highs across the board for the second year in a row, recording 36 goals (tied for the AHL lead), 39 assists, 75 points and a plus-17 rating in 64 games for the Wranglers. The fifth-year pro has also tied an all-time AHL mark with 15 game-winning tallies, helping Calgary to a league-best 50 victories and the best record ever for a Flames AHL affiliate. The AHL Player of the Month for November also skated in his first AHL All-Star Classic. 2022-23 AHL Second All-Star Team
Tumblr media
Joel Hofer, Goaltender (Springfield Thunderbirds): Joel Hofer earns a Second Team AHL All-Star nod on the strength of a 25-15-5 record, a 2.57 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage in 45 appearances for Springfield this season. Hofer is also tied for second in the league with four shutouts, and ranks third in minutes played (2,660) and shots faced (1,283) while helping the Thunderbirds to their second straight trip to the Calder Cup Playoffs. A 22-year-old native of Winnipeg, Man., Hofer has also played six games this season with the St. Louis Blues, who selected him in the fourth round of the 2018 NHL Draft. Lucas Carlsson, Defenseman (Charlotte Checkers): Lucas Carlsson ranks second among AHL defensemen in scoring with 52 points (19 goals, 33 assists) in 60 games heading into the final weekend of the regular season for Charlotte. Carlsson’s goal, assist and point totals all represent career highs for the native of Gavle, Sweden, who is in his fifth season of pro hockey in North America. The 25-year-old blueliner also owns a team-best plus-24 rating, and has chipped in three power-play goals and one shorthanded marker as well. Brogan Rafferty, Defenseman (Coachella Valley Firebirds): A Second Team All-Star as a rookie in 2019-20, Brogan Rafferty secures his second career selection this season as he sits tied for third among AHL defensemen in scoring with 51 points in 70 games for Coachella Valley. The fourth-year pro from West Dundee, Ill., is also tied for second among blueliners with 42 assists, and ranks third among all AHL skaters with a plus/minus rating of plus-31. The Quinnipiac University product joined the Seattle Kraken as a free agent on July 13, 2022. Trey Fix-Wolansky, Forward (Cleveland Monsters): Trey Fix-Wolansky has carried the Cleveland offense all season, pacing the team with 29 goals and 41 assists in 58 games played to tie the franchise single-season record with 70 points. The 23-year-old native of Edmonton, Alta., has scored 11 times and added 19 assists with the man advantage, figuring in on the scoring of nearly half of Cleveland’s 61 power-play goals this season. Fix-Wolansky, a seventh-round pick by Columbus in the 2018 NHL Draft, has also skated in nine NHL games with the Blue Jackets in 2022-23. Max McCormick, Forward (Coachella Valley Firebirds): A ninth-year pro from De Pere, Wis., Max McCormick had already set career scoring highs by the All-Star break, when he represented Coachella Valley at the AHL’s midseason showcase in Laval. He has continued his standout season through the second half and has amassed 28 goals and 39 assists for 67 points along with a plus-17 rating in 69 games for the Firebirds entering the final weekend of the regular season. A 2011 draft pick by Ottawa, McCormick is in his second season with the Seattle Kraken organization. T.J. Tynan, Forward (Ontario Reign): T.J. Tynan earns his third consecutive postseason All-Star Team selection, having recorded 71 assists and 79 points in 70 games for Ontario in 2022-23. The AHL’s MVP in both 2020-21 and 2021-22, Tynan is just the fourth player in league history to record at least 70 assists in back-to-back seasons, and will join Art Stratton (four times) as the only AHL players ever to lead the league in assists on three separate occasions. The AHL Player of the Month for January also participated in his fourth career AHL All-Star Classic this winter. AMERICAN HOCKEY LEAGUE HOME Read the full article
