The thing that sucks about JK Rowling being a transphobic and rasict is that kids have used her universe as a comfort or a way to escape their reality, I was one of those kids, and it breaks my heart that she is so problematic. Harry Potter was one of the few books and movies that intrested me as a child.

HP MULTI-CHAPTER FIC RECS

 I have a couple of multi-chapter fics that I think need to be recced by everyone because they are amazing. Most of them are primarily Hinny, but I do have fics of some other pairings. 

This is my List and I will continue to rec others!

The Changeling by @annerbhp:  Ginny is sorted into Slytherin. It takes her seven years to figure out why. If I said it’s one of my most favourite fics, I’d probably be trying to downplay my love. I fell in love with this fic in a way I don’t think I’ve ever loved anything before.

Armistice Series by @annerbhp:  The thing about war is that it never ends. Not really. The battlefields just change locations. Harry and Ginny after the war. If you’re a fan of The Changeling, you’re bound to follow this series. Beautiful take on how the problems stem from the roots.

Hermione Granger’s Hogwarts Crammer for Delinquents on the Run by @waspabi:  ‘You’re a wizard, Harry’ is easier to hear from a half-giant when you’re eleven, rather than from some kids on a tube platform when you’re seventeen and late for work. This fic hits my love for found family. All of the characters are done justice. And there’s something charming about teenagers running around trying to save the world.

the dogfather by @nonasuch:  “I’m not a reverse werewolf either,” says the man. “I’m your godfather.” Harry deserves much better than the Dursleys and that’s what he gets in this fic. I love it.

Grow Young with Me by @taliesin-19:  He always sat there, just staring out the window. The nameless man with sad eyes. He bothered no one, and no one bothered him. Until now, that is. Abigail Waters knew her curiosity would one day be the death of her…but not today. Today it would give her life instead. I have only read this story once because it’s too painful. But this won’t stop me from reccing it. It’s not exactly for me, but it is too beautiful for no one else to read it.

It’s Tea Time by @ellizablue: A beautiful story regarding the Next-Gen and how we make our own Voldemort. The fic delves deep into the problem rooted in the society. This is the only rendition of Cursed Child I’ll accept.

Yellow Submarine by @dreadwollf:  Alternate Universe. Two hurting, almost broken people reach toward the sunlight. I enjoyed (and got scarred by) this fic because it shows the transition of a person from a victim to a survivor very well. 

California Dreamin’ by @jenoramaca:  Harry and Ginny have struck out for new territory in California. Hoping for a quieter life, Harry has quit the Aurors to teach, but he may not get his wish.It’s a continuation of her Reconnecting universe and I’ll suggest you read the other fics before. I love how Jen writes her Ginny: stubborn, passionate and vulnerable.

Noticing by @thedistantdusk: Ginny suddenly realizes two things, in very quick succession: One, that Harry has never really looked at her that closely before, and two, that he is absolutely, beyond a shadow of a doubt, doing that. Right now.This is the story of how Harry comes to notice her… but more importantly, it’s the story of how Ginny comes to notice that he noticed. This fic delves deep into Harry and Ginny’s feelings during the sixth year and I love it!

Five Times Ginny Tells Harry She’s Pregnant (And One Time She Can’t) by @thedistantdusk:  Six standalone chapters. Six alternate universes. Five times when Ginny delivers some particularly pertinent information…and one time when she can’t.This is the pinnacle of angst. I read this every time I need to have a good cry. 

The Theia Higglesworth Trilogy by @floreatcastellumposts: If there’s anything better than Flo’s Harry, it’s her OCs. Theia is an auror who gets Harry as her mentor. Flo’s witty way of writing and her unapologetic British-ness makes it even better. 

we can’t control (watch me unfold) by @annerbhp:  It’s a simple arrangement. Between her grueling quidditch schedule and his mysterious auror duties, Ginny and Harry find time to have spectacular sex with no strings attached. It’s incredibly uncomplicated. Except when it isn’t. Did I say I was obsessed with Annerb? No? Okay. 

Kindle by @fightfortherightsofhouseelves and @gryffindormischief:  Life throws a lot of unexpected things Harry Potter’s way, but his luck has been pretty good so far. Gryffindormischief and fightfortherightsofhouseelves are probably royalty in AUs. This fic involves archaeologist, godfather and disaster Harry, a too-cool Ginny and a sweet Teddy. Need I say more?

Further Education by @glisseowrites: Have you ever thought about Hogwarts Professor!Harry? If you have, then this series is just for you. Glisseo delves deep into the education of the Magical World and provides us with a thorough education system.

Unravel Me by @narukoibito:  After a drunken night, Harry and Ginny find themselves tangled up in each other - in more ways than one. It’s just stress relief for two friends who are far too busy with their careers for a relationship… Right? FWB Hinny is sorely lacking and Naru is an amazing writer who needs all of your love.

The Darkness Within by Kurinoone: What if Wormtail hadn’t told Lord Voldemort the Potters hideout. What if he took Harry straight to him instead? I usually am not into the whole Dark Harry fics, but this one is different. Voldemort is given a shred of humanity and that makes him even more repulsive than in canon. Harry is a little shit but still remains the Harry we love, albeit more selfish, arrogant and troubling. It delves deep into love and care and I think everyone should give it a try.

These are the ones which immediately came to my mind, but these aren’t the only ones. I have a disturbing lack of fics and I’d love it if you guys can suggest me some! My only boundaries are incest and cross generational ships (this includes Harry/Severus kind of ships which are not my cup of tea).

So I finally got around to finishing this clip from the Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix audiobook. A lot of people requested Umbridge getting the verbal smack down from Mcgonagall, and I was so eager to animate this. And then half way through, I just stopped. I lost all fire to work, and didn’t want to even look at the scene anymore. But yesterday, I sat down at my computer and did all the animation for mcgonagall in one fell swoop. So... cool.

“I would like a Ron and Hermione piece (probably not a surprise). I’d like something showing them during a kind of slice of life moment when they are grown up with some intimacy. An scene I was thinking of recently is Hermione working late in their study and Ron bringing her tea and food. I can see Ron affectionately kiss the top of her head before leaving to let her work more. I’d prefer a black Hermione, but whatever inspires you works for me.” I’ve been quite ill with bronchitis since xmas (thus the lack of art) but finally, for the first time since CHRISTMAS was able to sleep lying down and my body is so happy. Finally able to draw now! Expect more art this week!

with the new round of JK rowling being a transphobic prick rolling out, I think it’s important to reference what I call the H.P. Lovecraft rule. Fans of Lovecraft’s stuff openly acknowledge that he was remarkably racist and that his shitty beliefs bled into his work, whether through metaphors or more blatant pieces of the text, while also enjoying the monster concepts and such that he created. They use critical thinking when approaching his work and acknowledge . In my opinion, it’s fine for people to still like Harry Potter, it’s just important to acknowledge that the Rowling’s own shitty beliefs also bled into her work (the house elves ‘enjoying’ slavery, the sexism, the antisemitism with the goblins, laughable attempt at gay inclusion, lycanthropy being compared to AIDS, etc.). I really don’t think it’s bad for anyone to still enjoy the franchise, it’s just really important to use critical thinking when consuming it, which is true of any media really.

Also I know there are people who are going to drop it all together, and honestly valid, can’t blame ya, it’s just that I saw a post saying ‘you can’t separate it from her beliefs!’ and I just wanted to point out the truth in that while ALSO pointing out that it doesn’t mean people have to quit it altogether - they just need to be smart in their consumption. If someone says something along the lines of, “JK Rowling sucks but the series is still perfect, I’ll just pretend she didn’t write it,” then that’s not critical thinking. That’s just trying to make yourself feel better and pretend there’s nothing wrong with it instead of admitting there are things absolutely wrong with it and that the thing you like is flawed.
