☆⋆。𖦹✮ ⋆ ˚。𖦹 ⋆。°✩°‧★☆⋆。𖦹✮ ⋆ ˚。𖦹 ⋆。°✩°‧★☆⋆。𖦹✮ ⋆ ˚。𖦹
My town was a wasteland, full of cages, full of fences, pageant queens and big pretenders. but for some, it was paradise.
she enjoyed putting on a show, displaying herself as a perfect women. pirate queen, top navigator, whatever label the world decided to don on her. it let the people see her better, and she couldn’t deny how much she enjoyed the looks she would get on the street. women sinking with envy, men salivating with lust, she knew she shouldn’t enjoy it, the pride that came with it, but something about it all healed her.
perhaps it was for the little girl still inside her, tattered robes and calloused hands. the little girl that felt like she’s not good enough or strong enough or smart enough to protect anyone, her village. the little girl who wasted her adolescence sweating away in a dark room, ankles shackled to the chair, seeing her nightmares and reality intertwine into what was supposed to be her dream. she internally begged for anyone to help her, save her, but she knew this was her duty. it was for her village, after all.
she didn’t grow up like other girls. she never experienced what a first crush was like, or how it feels to shop for new clothes, sleepovers, gossiping, giggles, girlhood. instead, she got used to leeching eyes, unwanted touches, and quickly learned the men she will be meeting in this world won’t be the chivalrous knights that her sister used to tell her about when they were very little. they were instead dissolute, carnal beings that only wanted her for one thing. she learned how much she’d benefit from it.
the strawhats were…. confusing. the love she felt from luffy was nothing like what all those men would force on her all those years before. it was unconditional, pure, and familial, and nami cherished it like it was her most prized possession. she forgot when the last time was that she felt comfortable enough to fall asleep in the presence of a man, without the undying fear of what would come next. newfound trust surged through her veins, and she flourished in it.
and then there was sanji. sanji, the corny cook that luffy, for some reason, stubbornly demanded be on their ship. he all cheesy words, artificial charm, and pure love. now that, that was the part that nami couldn’t understand. she prided herself on her ability to read others, to know what to expect with every interaction she had. but with sanji, the supposed most predictable man on earth, she couldn’t figure it out. she had witnessed countless, shameless men that would throw themselves onto her and be open about their affections, but sanji wore his heart on his sleeve with pure, unfiltered endearment. while the others would chalk it up to dumb flattery, nami saw more. she saw a man that was unafraid to show his love for the people around him, and she couldn’t help but feel heavily confused. it was shallow, she told herself. it was shallow, the love he had for her. the petnames, the fancy dishes, it was all an act, a lie he was trying to tell her, so that she could give him the one thing he wanted.
but then he was there, punching one of her abusers in the face for calling her “just a lousy girl”, then he was there, carrying her up a freezing mountain because she was sick. she knew he was a fairly handsome guy, and if he truly wanted to, could pick up a girl from any of the islands they visit and have a nice night together. so why her? why was he so hellbent on her? it’s not like she had anything to offer that would be different, did she?
My boy was a montage, a slow-motion, love potion jumping off things in the ocean, I broke his heart 'cause he was nice.
sanji… who is sanji, really? embarrassingly, nami found herself thinking about that more often than she could count. he was brave, for starters. incredibly kind. he’d never hesitate to help someone in need, even if it meant hurting himself in the process. self sacrificing, yes, that’s what he was. just like nami. he wouldn’t spare a second thought to rush into a fight, if it meant saving someone, even if it meant in his own demise. that’s just the kind of guy he is.
loving, oh, the most loving man she’d ever met. it went beyond the daily dessert platters and cheesy love letters. it would be when they were at the dinner table, the room noisy as ever, and nami would suddenly realize she can’t move her fingers. or her legs, or her arms. and now, she can’t breathe. luffy would ask a thousand and one questions, and everyone else would be concerned. but nami was better than this. nami was stronger than this, she broke down easily, yes, but prided herself on being a backbone to the crew, being the sole reason they got anywhere in the first place. but in times like these, she felt useless, just like on the battlefield. useless, just like how she was when bellemere fell to the ground.
but then she’d lock eyes with sanji, and his eyes would soften in such a way that she felt like he knew exactly what she was going through, that he was in her place many times before. he’d put on his high pitched voice and ask nami-swan to help him find the frozen peas in the storage they have in the deck, and to everyones surprise, nami would agree. they’d leave and nami wouldn’t know what to say, whether to thank him or tell him to get lost, because frankly, she needed some time alone. but she didn’t need to do any of that, because sanji knew, he knew, so much that it scared her how much he knew. he’d make contact with her eyes once more and offer a smile, one filled with genuine love--as always. he knew she wanted to be left alone, that’s how she is. he’d return to the dining room and make an excuse about how she needed to check the navigation plans to see if they’re on track, and that would be the end of it.
He was sunshine, I was midnight rain, he wanted it comfortable, I wanted that pain, he wanted a bride, I was making my own name, chasing that fame, he stayed the same, all of me changed like midnight rain
they’d never work out, nami knew that much. they’d never work out, because he was too sincere and kind and sentimental, and she was anything but. she’d learned to love, the strawhats had taught her that much, but she was still scared. she was afraid he’d still be waiting at her doorstep, even after she’d create a fight out of nothing and push him away. she was afraid he’d forgive her, if she were to ever reap what she was taught in her teen years by the pirates that kept her captive, she was afraid she would be too much, too emotional, too broken.
and her hand hurt, the whole time she was waiting for luffy to wake up. stranded in an unknown land far into big moms territory, her hand ached from when she’d slapped sanji minutes prior. after years of soft eye contact and subtle, genuine touches, she couldn’t handle the icy stare he gave her before saying his goodbyes. is this how she felt when she saw nojiko’s reaction to her inclusion to the arlong pirates? though, a part of her knew he was just doing what she had done years prior, pushing his loved ones away to tackle an issue he thought only he should handle. they were two sides of the same coin, but despite that, she felt like her worst fears had come through, that sanji was finally tired of her, and she retaliated the only way she knew how. she was hurting, but she knew he was too.

sigma grindset (law x reader)
shachi and penguin notice that law likes you. they give him the worst advice imaginable.
wc: 2.6k (this was supposed to be a joke i don't know how it ended up this long) masterlist
cw: fluff, zoomer speak, crack taken seriously, confessions, miscommunication, friends to lovers, shachi and penguin are idiots, law is a dork

“See ya’ later, Captain!” you say playfully as you slip out of Law’s office, both of you hanging in the doorway for a moment, your gazes remaining held together by a magnetic pull.
“Tch.  See ya’.” he murmurs with a smirk, giving your shoulder a squeeze before you part, bouncing down the hallway with a spring in your step.  Along the way you pass Shachi and Penguin, who take note of your bright smile and burning cheeks as you make a beeline for your room.  Most of the crew had noticed the budding feelings that have cropped up between you and Law, but Shachi and Penguin had both resolved to take a more active role in ensuring things went well for their beloved captain.
And so, they invite themselves into Law’s office, prepared to present their plan to him.
“You like her.  You like her so much.” Shachi says with a snort as he strolls into Law’s office with Penguin in tow.
Law rolls his eyes and tries to will away the blush consuming his cheeks. “I fail to see how that’s any of your business.” he says dryly, focusing his attention onto a set of maps on his desk; he’s studied them thoroughly and discussed potential navigational paths with Bepo a hundred times over already, but he’d rather bore himself to death than face the smug, mischievous grins of his friends.
“As your crewmembers, it’s not, but as your best friends in the whole wide world, we have a duty to help you!” Penguin exclaims as Shachi nods along with him in agreement.
“No need.  Things are going well.  And again—it’s none of your business.” Law replies dismissively, crossing his arms and spinning in his swivel chair to face the wall.  It was immature, but so were they for trying to meddle in his personal business, no matter how genuine their intentions are.
“But, Captain, right now you’re a beta male.  You’re coming on too strong; you’re all over her, so she feels no urgency to take things further anytime soon—you’re the safe option.  You need to ignore her to make her want you enough to chase you.” Shachi says, ignoring Law’s attempts at avoidance as he makes his way towards his captain’s desk.
“You need to be a sigma male, Captain, and we made you a schedule to help you achieve that!” Penguin announces, triumphantly shoving a piece of paper into his captain’s hands.  Law rolls his eyes as he takes it and begins scanning his eyes over the document.
“‘6 AM: looksmaxxing’… what does this even mean?” Law asks, narrowing his eyes at the paper.
“He’s hopeless, Shachi, he doesn’t even know how to mew!” Penguin whispers, shaking his head disapprovingly.
Law lets out a deep sigh.  “I’ll bite.  What’s mewing.” he says, patience already wearing thin.
“You stick your tongue flat on the roof of your mouth to make sure your jawline is defined!  And then you’ll look better for the chicks!  See, it all comes together—” Penguin exclaims, only to be unceremoniously cut off.
“Doesn’t your tongue usually do that?” Law asks, perturbed, only to be met with uncomfortable silence as Shachi and Penguin realize that maybe they’re the abnormal ones.
“Just keep reading it.” Shachi grumbles, tapping the paper to gain Law’s attention.
Law continues reading the ‘schedule’ incredulously.  “‘9 AM, edge for four hours (discipline), 1 PM cold shower, 1:05 PM, edge for two hours (punishment).’ …You two cannot be serious.  Do you seriously think I have nothing better to do all day?”
Shachi snickers in response. “I know it hurts to have two hours of your usual edging time cut from your schedule, Captain, but—”
“I don’t do it that much!” Law shouts, face flushed red with embarrassment.
“And you’re not gonna have to do it at all, once you follow your Sigma Grindset Schedule and get her eating out of the palm of your hand!” Shachi exclaims, a wild toothy grin on his face.
“Trust us, Law, we’ve got enough experience to know what girls like!” Penguin says, giving him a thumbs up of reassurance.  Finally cracking and bending to the whims of his friends, Law lets out a sigh before speaking.
“I’m not going to be waking up at three in the morning or…” Law squints at the paper, “consuming small pebbles to aid with digestion, but if you two sincerely think that being more aloof with her will help ensure things go well, then I’m willing to try it for a while.”  His friends both fist pump in unison and whisper an excited Yes! under their breaths, causing Law to roll his eyes.  “But—” he warns, his tone turning deathly serious, “—if this doesn’t work out, I will personally make sure neither of you feel the warmth of the sun on your skin for three months, minimum.”
“Aw, c’mon Law, don’t be so serious!  We’re just trying to help you because we love you!” Shachi teases, ignoring the threat of being stuck inside the claustrophobic walls of the Polar Tang for the foreseeable future should things not go according to plan.
“Yeah!  We love you, Law!” Penguin adds, invading his personal space to give him a hug.
“Knock it off!” Law sputters out, turning beet red as Shachi joins the fun and wraps his arms around him too.
“Not ‘til you say you love us back!” they exclaim, causing Law to growl in annoyance and shambles them out of his office.
Unbeknownst to Law, you were receiving unsolicited advice of your own back in your room.
“Hey—you’re spacing out again!” Ikkaku says in between transitions of yoga poses; when you glance over at her, she’s doing something completely different than you, leaving you wondering how long you had been zoned out for.
“Sorry… Drifted off for a second.” you reply sheepishly, digging your nails into your forearm.
“Thinking about Law again?” she asks, sitting down on her yoga mat with a grin.
“Maybe…” you mumble as you mirror her actions, crisscrossing your legs on the squishy foam mat. “I’ve been thinking about telling him how I feel.” you confess, blush dusting across your cheeks.
“Really?” she asks, a sense of alarm in her voice that gives you pause.
“Do you think I shouldn’t?  I’m pretty sure he feels the same way, he even put his arm around me today…” you reply worriedly, now doubting each tiny interaction you’ve had with him over the past few days.
“That’s promising!  I just—” she starts, taking a moment to gather her thoughts, “—I think you should let him come to you.  He’s never been in a relationship before.  Ever.  And even though it seems like he likes you, that would be a big step for him.  I just don’t want to see you put yourself out there and get hurt when you could simply wait a little while and know for sure where his head’s at.”
“Makes sense, I’ll wait it out, then.” you reply, taking a deep breath as you attempt to release your stress.
“Okay!  Now let’s actually focus and do cats and cows!” Ikkaku exclaims, getting onto her hands and knees as you smile and do the same.
Set on two disparate courses, with you resolved to let Law take things into his own hands, and him trying to keep his distance, the two of you fall into an unhappy routine for the next few days, barely speaking and only catching glimpses of one another at mealtimes.  Though Shachi and Penguin had been so sure that this was going to work, it had become quite clear to Law that something was beyond wrong due to their meddling, and so he consults a third party for another opinion.
“Ikkaku, you’re a woman.” Law says plainly, crossing his legs as he leans back in his office chair.
“Of course I am, are you having a stroke, Captain?” she jokes, sinking into the plush armchair opposite his desk.
“Tch, just hear me out,” he grumbles, “Shachi and Penguin told me that being more distant makes men more desirable, but it doesn’t seem to be working.”  His words cause Ikkaku to let out a knowing sigh that immediately makes his stomach drop.
“Not to make you panic, Captain, but she’s been mopey and sad all week because of the way you’ve been acting.” she says cautiously, walking carefully to try to prevent him from getting too worked up.
“Idiots.  I can’t believe I trusted them…” he mumbles, turning red with embarrassment.  Ikkaku can’t help but giggle quietly, earning her a nasty glare from her captain. “Alright, how do I fix this?” he asks, not wanting to dwell on the past as he focuses on the near future.
“Apologize, for starters.” Ikkaku says, crossing her arms.
“You know I hate doing that…” he grumbles quietly, his voice trailing off near the end of his sentence.
Ikkaku lets out an exasperated sigh. “Do you want her or not?” she asks, a hint of annoyance in her voice.
“I do!” Law exclaims with frustration.
“Then say you’re sorry for being a total jerk!” she shoots back, letting out a disgruntled sigh as she readjusts her beanie.
Law takes a deep breath that’s shaky enough to attest to all the stress he’s currently under. “But then I have to explain why I’ve been acting this way and I’ll look like a complete idiot.” he hisses, pulling the brim of his cap over his eyes.
“You are an idiot!  I can’t believe you let them talk you into this—” she starts, though a warning glare from Law gets her to switch gears, “—look, Captain, if you don’t want to explain yourself, just go back to the way things were before.  It was working well enough to make her want to confess.” she says, with just enough enthusiasm to entice him to regain hope; however, her words have the opposite effect, and he buries his head in his arms.
“And now I ruined it. Great.” he mumbles, hands dipping underneath his hat to pull at his hair in frustration.
“Actually, I told her not to.” Ikkaku says sheepishly, causing Law to sit up and stare at her wide-eyed as he waits for an explanation, “I know you’ve never been in this situation before, so I figured it would be best for her to wait until you were certain about getting serious with her.  I didn’t want her to get hurt.” she explains gently, silently biting her tongue as a remark about him already having hurt you threatens to escape her lips.
Law pauses for a moment, swirling in his own thoughts before nodding, seemingly satisfied with her explanation as he takes a shaky breath. “Thank you, Ikkaku, I appreciate it.” he says, implying with his tone that she was free to go.
“Any time, Captain.  Need anything else?” she asks as she stands.
“Send her my way so I can patch this up.” he replies, leaning back into his chair, markedly more relaxed than he was before.
“Aye-aye, Captain!  Good luck!” she chirps, giving him a mock salute as she exits the office, leaving Law alone to compose himself before you arrive.  The wait stretches somewhere between a moment and an eternity, with a littering of racing thoughts, and hastily created plans running through Law’s mind as he bounces his leg impatiently.
“Hey… you wanted to see me?” you ask gingerly, breaking him from his thoughts.
He awkwardly stands and makes his way towards the couch, slumping down into the cushions. “I figured we could hang out since we haven’t gotten the chance to lately… if you’re not too busy.” he says cautiously, as if he had spent a lifetime choosing and arranging each word in his statement.
“I’d love that!” you reply quickly, your face burning at how eager you were to get even the tiniest crumb of attention from him after being neglected for the past few days.
“Been reading anything good this week?” he asks nonchalantly as you flop down on the couch next to him.
You nod. “That novel I grabbed on the last island—it’s more so bad, it’s good than anything else though.” you reply with a shaky giggle.
“Murder mystery, right?  Tell me about it.” he urges, spreading his legs just a smidge in order to press the side of his leg against yours, both of you blushing at the tiny iota of warm contact.
While you ramble on to him, he keeps track of your words, but is more so focused on the minute changes in your expression, the way your voice wavers and wobbles, and the unbearable tension you carry in your shoulders—he had intended on getting away with not having to explain himself to you, but it was clear his behavior had shaken you up, making him grit his teeth with shame.
“You seem nervous.” Law observes as you trail off, staring at you so intently that you can’t bear to keep eye contact with him.
“I am.” you admit, letting out a deep sigh, “I know you needed space to gather your thoughts, but my head’s a mess and—”
“It’s nothing like that.” Law says, gaining the courage to place his hand on your knee reassuringly as he continues. “I’m sure about how I feel—I’ve been sure about how I feel, but I got some bad advice about how to handle it.” he confesses, unable to meet your eyes.  Fishing out a piece of paper, he thrusts it into your hands.  “Shachi and Penguin gave me this stupid thing and told me I had to ignore you to get you to like me more.” he says quietly, knowing you’ll get a kick out of how silly it was, even if you ended up laughing a little at his expense.
An amused smirk grows on your face as you study the paper, eyes scanning over each time slot. “Have you seriously been edging for six hours a day?” you ask with a giggle as you study the schedule.
“No!” he exclaims, snatching the paper out of your hands, “But I actually have been ‘researching rare fish’ to help pass the time, I think I’ve identified a few species that may produce some natural products with medicinal properties.” he explains, pointing to the entry that says ‘3:45 AM, research rare fish’.
“Interesting—let me know what you’re after and I’ll isolate and characterize the compounds for you.” you reply, perking up with a grin on your face.  Relieved to see you return to your usual demeanor, he lets out a soft sigh.
“That’s my girl.” Law says, tightening his grip on your knee, and smirking when he sees your face start to burn, eyes blown wide as his words send shivers down your spine.
Knowing he’s got you right where he wants you, he presses harder against your pressure point.  “You like that, don’t you?” he teases, placing a hand on your waist and coaxing you into his lap.  Unable to respond properly, you nod your head and let out a tiny whimper of agreement. “So flustered you can’t even speak.  So cute.” he whispers, brushing a stray strand of hair out of your face.
“Can I kiss you?” he asks softly, his eyes swimming with a mixture of adoration and nerves.
“Please—” you whisper, though the word barely escapes you before his lips press onto yours.  He’s clumsy, with inexperience dripping from his lips, but he’s purposeful and heated in his movements, intent on making up for lost time.
“Sorry this took me so long.” he whispers, running one of his tattooed hands along your side while the other lazily grips your waist.
“It was worth the wait.” you reply softly, cupping his face as you lean in to kiss him again.

do you guys want to hear about my sanji's siblings love him au?
who am i kidding, of course you do
anyways
ichiji, niji, and yonji run on facts and logic. they're programmed to have loyalty to their family, and sanji is part of that family, even if he can't do everything they can do.
and the way they see it, it just makes more sense for their loyalty to lie with the brother they shared a womb with for nine months over the father that insists on abusing all of them.
it's not sanji's fault that he's weak and has emotions. that's an objective fact. he was born the way he was. it could just as easily have been any of the rest of them that were different.
so sure, they'll follow judge's orders, because they have to, because it's what they were born to do, but they're not gonna take any of the shitty things people do or say about their brother, least of all their father
sora adores her children. because judge hurt them terribly by taking away their free will, but that's none of their fault, and they're trying in the only way they know how. she's patient with them, trying to teach them about morality and the importance of doing the right thing
at their age, they don't really understand it, but they do notice that people are more likely to do what they want with little fuss if they treat them the way their mom says they should
but then their mom dies, and maybe the loss of his wife is what pushes judge over the edge but he lashes out at sanji, because somehow in his mind sanji is the reason for sora's death. if it weren't for the poison she had taken, which had turned sanji into the weakling that he was, sora would still be alive
ichiji and the other two are furious. they hate this empire that their father has built for himself - and that little fact, that they can hate it at all - goes unnoticed by all of the kids
but they do hate it, and with their mother gone there's no reason for them to stay. so they take sanji, and they take reiju, and the five kids escape from the Germa kingdom and never look back
they work whatever odd jobs they can. and then one day they come across zeff - after he had been rescued from the island he was stranded on for months
and this zeff still has both legs and he didn't suffer as much because he didn't have a child to give up all his food for, but he still decides to give up pirating. he lost his entire crew in that storm, and he has no desire to sail the seas without them
so he had set out to fulfill his dream of building a floating restaurant for himself. he's living on an island in the east blue, and he comes across these five children. one of them, sanji, latches onto him as soon as he finds out that he's a chef. slowly, over the months, their relationship develops and grows stronger.
zeff isn't an idiot, he knows there's something wrong with these kids, but he doesn't pay it much mind. he treats them like any other children, with all the kicking and scolding that entails
normally ichiji and the others wouldn't put up with this kind of treatment from anyone, but they see the way sanji and reiju latch onto zeff, the way the two of them follow him like lost puppies and positively preen at any positive attention he gives them, and they decide they'll put up with it.
it's not like the crappy geezer's kicks actually hurt the three of them
so zeff takes reiju and the boys in, even if it means that food will be a little tight until their restaurant gets off the ground.
the 5 of them grow up on the baratie, protecting their home and surrounded by the gruffly affectionate cooks that are drawn to their father's way of life. it's so different from the environment that they had been born into that they don't know what to think. sanji and reiju take to their new life like fish to water, but it takes a little longer for the boys
yonji respects sanji like he respects his other older brothers. he watches sanji, sees the way he loves and hurts and grows. the intensity of the things sanji feels is completely foreign to yonji, but it stirs an unknown feeling in yonji's heart. he doesn't know what it is, but it makes him short-tempered with his brother
by now zeff has been around his kids for a while, and he's more or less figured out what's up. yonji learns from zeff that what he's feeling is jealousy. that he wants something sanji has that he doesn't
which should be impossible.
yonji doesn't feel things.
zeff shrugs and doesn't argue. he just leaves his kid to figure things out on his own.
after that, it happens slowly, so very slowly, but over time, ichiji, niji, and yonji start feeling more and more emotions. their emotions are still pretty dull in comparison to the frightening intensity of what sanji, reiju, and other people feel, but they cherish this new aspect of themselves.
and it turns out that sanji hadn't been the only one affected by their mother's desperate attempt to save her babies. the others had as well. it had just taken a little more work to draw their humanity out of them
by the time don krieg makes the ill-fated decision to attack the baratie, they still don't have the depth of emotion that other humans do. and maybe they never will. but they have enough to know that they will destroy anyone who even thinks of threatening their father's treasure
and they have enough to shed tears when their brother - a piece of their hearts - sets off with the future king of the pirates
it hurts, to have him leave them. and that hurt is something they wouldn't have had to feel if they had remained the way they were as children
but even that hurt is precious to them
because it's a product of how far they've come, and how much they've gained

one piece au where literally nothing went wrong everyone is alive and happy hc's
nami
belle mere is still alive obvi
the attack on her island was less of an attack and more of like a alliance? like the fishman pirates pulled up and were like hey we need a hideout can we pls use ur island. and they were like yeah offer us protection and in turn u can use our island! no violence no blood nothing!!
in this au fisher tiger is still alive and the fishman pirates are still what he envisioned before his death, so he’s the captain, not arlong
speaking of arlong he’s like hella toned down. he got the jinbei affect in the sense that koala changed him and showed him humans aren’t all bad. yeah sure he’s more radical and unhinged than the other pirates but he’s just like the weird conservative uncle you tolerate at thanksgiving not a real threat
hachi and nami bonding!!!
nami never develops an obsession with money, she gets to put her full effort into map making and exploring that talent
she makes maps for the fishman pirates completely out of her own free will
she joins the movement for fishman human equality woohoo!!!
yeah in this au that movement actually gets taken seriously instead of played off and the fishmen actually make progress in equality
koala visits sometimes! koala and nami bonding time!!!
law
doflamingo is toned down like 1000% in this au he’s not a family killer in this one he’s just odd
like seriously idk how the logistics would work but maybe somehow after the whole “doffys family becomes human” thing the humans don’t persecute him? so in turn he just kinda is pretentious and misses being rich instead of holding a particular grudge against humanity?
either way he’s also just the weird conservative uncle you see at thanksgiving
corazon is number one dad ever did he offer law henny for his 8th birthday yes does he know how to do laundry or cook not at all but he is trying his best!
LAW BABY FIVE AND BUFFALO AS COUSINS. PLEASE!!!! dellinger too maybe idk if he’s a kid or not tho
the executives like trebol diamante whatever the fuck also aren’t as evil either they just tryna do their own thing yk just black market deal in peace but no unnecessary killing
donquixote family stays pirates instead of going and trying to take a whole kingdom (took a shit ton of convincing for doffy to accept that)
the whole pirate warlord thing gives doffy enough prestige he don’t need to be a king necessarily
law eats the op op fruit, doffy tries to get him to make him immortal, corazon slaps him, doffy changes his mind
(i am taking so many liberties in this au omg)

never let go
1,109 words ; uchiha sasuke/haruno sakura
angst, heavy angst, titanic!au, love confessions, first kiss, 1920s!au, rose is sasuke & jack is sakura
“Sasuke ... it- it’s so cold.”
Fingers intertwined, the two lovers floated amongst the wreckage that was once the RMS Titanic, once hailed the ship of dreams, the unsinkable beast, and Sakura’s one ticket to the states.

For Sasuke, of course, it was nothing but a nuisance. Yet another lion's den of pompous plutocrats with nothing else filling their empty lives but the talk of money and heritage, clans and inheritance. Wine tastings and ballroom dancing was all that filled his meaningless life, for being the son of a duke meant mindlessly strolling through life, everything being handed to you on a silver platter. Each day was the same, having to endure several aristocratic flaunts of wealth. That ship was a culmination, a showcase of everything he hated about his life, of course, until he met Sakura.

Maintaining his grip on her hands, he moved his head just a bit closer to try and blow some air onto her hands to generate warmth. She certainly looked cold, cheeks dusting the same shade of pink as her hair. Of course, on any other normal day, Sasuke might think she looked beautiful, but given the circumstances and context, he was more worried for her safety than anything. Being stranded in the middle of the Atlantic during the coldest of seasons certainly did nothing to help the onset of hyperthermia the two began to experience, chills rustling their bones and numbness creeping into their vital spots.

Despite Sakura's initial resistance, Sasuke had made sure that she would be the one resting on top of the broken door frame that was floating upon the ocean’s freezing waves. It’s not like Sasuke enjoyed having half his body plunged into the frigid sea, but it was all the more worth it when he remembered that he was experiencing this pain instead of her.

“Sa-Sasuke, do you remember when w-we first met?” Sakura ushered out. “You were about to jump into h-here. See? I-I told you it woul-would be cold.”

How could Sasuke ever forget? The wind was fierce that day, partially because he was dangling off the edge of the ship. He’d had only one hand on the railing, and he was prepared to let go. Ready to be free from the purgatory that was his life; to finally escape all that troubled him and be reunited with his brother.

But then she showed up. Concerned, scared, but most of all, stubborn. That was the first time Sasuke laid eyes on her, the first time her jade orbs pierced his soul and opened his eyes. She’d saved him that day, in more ways than one.

“Sakura....” Sasuke uttered. The numbing sensation was becoming ever more prevalent throughout his body, his vessels and organs forgetting their basic functions and succumbing to the frost of the merciless Atlantic. He made sure to keep them going, though, since he needed to ensure Sakura's survival no matter what.

“Whe-when are they gonna come? H-how are they gonna come?” Sakura asked, fear shadowing her face. “I’m scared, Sasuke, I-I’m—“

His determined glare was enough to silence the next thought that was to slip from her mouth. The bright red flash of his eyes was illuminating, even in the pitch black darkness they were surrounded in, almost hypnotizing Sakura and helping her come back from her mind.

Understanding perfectly without a single word being uttered, Sakura gently rested her head on the wooden door frame and tried to conserve her energy. She tried thinking about anything but the stabbing pain that ran through her like a plague, tried thinking of anything that resembled warmth, so she thought about her first kiss with Sasuke.

He was inexperienced, that was for sure. Teeth clashed and noses collided during their reunion on deck when Sasuke finally accepted his love for her, but Sakura didn’t mind. For someone as attractive as him, she would’ve expected him to have much more experience, and her heart thumped acknowledging the fact that she was his first. She saw a boy that was sheltered and stripped of his emotions for years, and was glad to be the one who reopened that box of love that resided inside of him.

The kisses that followed the rest of the night were hurried, rash, and cut off too soon. They were supposed to land in the states, hand in hand, prepared for whatever the world would bring because they had each other and that’s all that fucking mattered. They’d leave their previous lives behind and only look ahead, their paths being drawn side by side. They were supposed to have a happily ever after.

Sakura felt a sob gather in her throat, despite her previous attempts to conserve energy. Why did things end up this way? Will she ever see Sasuke again? Why should she even continue to live?

“S-sasuke, I-I love y-you.” Sakura rambled, hot tears providing a shocking contrast to the ice that had begun to gather on her cheeks. She didn’t wanna let him go, she couldn’t, she could never, ever let go—

She was once again cut off by the crimson glare that never left her eyes. Sasuke was upset now, she could tell. His grip on her hands tightened. “Don’t you dare start that. Don’t even t-think about saying your goodbyes right now. Listen to me.” Sasuke inched closer to her weeping face. “You won’t give up. You won’t let it all end here. Do you understand, Sakura?”

She only sniffled. “I'm cold.”

“I know, okay? I know. but you’re gonna get out of this. You’re gonna leave this stupid ocean and go on and publish your findings in the latest medical technology and become renowned as the greatest doctor to ever live.” He rambled. “You’re gonna grow and die a senile old lady, warm in your bed. You’re not gonna die here, you understand? Not here. Not tonight.”

“I-I can’t feel my body.” she squeaked.

“Sakura, listen to me. Boarding that ship was the best thing to ever happen to me... it-it brought me to you, Sakura. I couldn't ask for anything more.”

The cold had worked its way to his heart, and he felt the beat on his chest get slower and slower with every passing second. But his eyes were unwavering. His grip remained strong. He would make sure Sakura was getting out alive, no matter what it took.

He swallowed. “Sakura, I... I need you to promise me. Promise me you’ll survive this. Promise me that... that you’ll never give up... no matter how hopeless... Sakura, please promise me. Promise me you won’t let go of that.”

Sakura sniffled. “I promise.”

“Never let go.”

whoever said it’s better to love and lose never loved and lost you
[kaworu/shinj]
966 words, angst, angst w/ unhappy ending, takes place after events of ep 24, character study, based on “i wish i never met you” by babygirl
misato begrudgingly closed the door of shinji’s room, his noisy complaints of wanting to be left alone getting too draining.
she knew damn well that leaving the adolescent alone was the last thing she should do, but the amount that she had on her own plate was quickly overfilling to the point where she couldn’t handle shinji’s dramatics.
on the other side, shinji rested his head on his pillow with a thick migraine from the events that occurred earlier today. his chest was tight, his breath hitched, and his mind was racing with a million and one thoughts.
he felt weak, indescribably weak. he felt as if somebody were to lay a finger on him, he would fall apart. he felt fractured, destroyed, and hated that feeling.
he hated it. he hated it a lot. he hated the feeling of always being the weakest one and the boy who can’t do anything, he hated the shallow sensation that would rise in his stomach at the smallest inconvenience.
he hated his delicacy, the fragile glass that his body was made of, he hated his crave for others and he hated his crave for being alone. he hated his hair, the way his eyes were slanted downwards in such an ugly way, the peach fuzz on his chin, the way his voice croaked when he cried.
shinji hated everything about himself. he hated the fact that he was alive,
but he couldn’t get his mind off the one person who didn’t.
shinji winced at kaworu creeping into his mind, infesting his every brain cell with his presence. shinji had done everything he could in the past couple hours to forget, forget, and forget, but his red eyed prince wouldn’t escape his thoughts.
kaworu loved his delicacy. kaworu praised his emotional vulnerability, the sentimental grip shinji held on his past. kaworu admired his troubles, consoling them as the beautiful pain humanity holds. kaworu didn’t think shinji was a mess, kaworu didn’t think of his face as anything less than perfect. kaworu adored the bumpy callouses that decorated shinji’s hands, the way shinji would yelp when kaworu hugged him from behind.
kaworu loved shinji. all of him.
the stinging sensation of tears hit shinji’s eyes, as he let them fall freely across his face and onto his pillow. his body was hollow, rusted, and empty without kaworu’s touch. shinji was overwhelmed from the emotions he was having, the thoughts that were encompassing his brain, but amidst the chaos one thing stood clear to him; shinji hated kaworu nagisa.
he hated how safe kaworu made him feel. he hated the freedom and escape he found in kaworu’s touch. he didn’t have to care about the evas, his father, humanity, rei, asuka, or the dozens of problems that loomed over his brain every day. kowaru took them all and crushed them in half, and gave shinji a warm embrace of peace.
he hated that he had experienced that feeling. he hated the delicious taste of happiness kowaru had gave him only for him to snatch it away. he hated that he dipped his toes in the pool of love only for the pool to quickly drain forever. he was greedy, he wanted to experience it all the time. he hated that he didn’t know forever would end so soon.
kaworu was nothing but a liar. he lied while making shinji promises of eternal happiness, he lied when he told shinji he would never leave.
but was i the fool that fell for them? shinji thought. gripping onto his waist and chest, he desperately searched for any feeling that wasn’t vacant. he tried shaking his legs to make them numb no more, and he clenched his eyes and prayed that he would never think of kaworu again.
he prayed that he could go back into time and never meet him.
shinji wanted those days of happiness back, so he could quickly burn them into his usual days of depression. shinji wanted his brain to forget he ever had hope, that there was any chance for somebody to love him. kaworu was the only person who ever claimed to understand shinji, hands intertwined on their shared bed. shinji wanted that all gone.
shinji pictured misato’s arm draped around him. shinji envisioned what she might say to all his irrational thoughts, the jumble of chaos that made up his mind. misato had her heart broken before, didn’t she? why did she ever try again after that?
it’s better to love and lose, shinji. misato’s words echoed in his head. the emptiness you’ll feel if you live a whole life without love is incomparable.
pain is something man must carry in his heart, and since the heart feels pain so easily, some believe that life is pain. shinji flinched at the sound of his sweet voice in his head again. mankind needs love to go on.
no! shinji wanted to yell. i don’t need love! i don’t need the pain that would come alongside it. whoever said its better to love and lose… never loved and lost you.
shinji opened his eyes, fixated on the ceiling in front of him. he wanted nothing more than to forget kaworu. forget him forever.
shinji shifted slightly to the right, glancing at the mp3 player that rested on his desk. it was his first gift from kowaru, and he remembered cherishing it like the last meal he’d ever eat. shinji felt his body go limp, unable to move. he couldn’t feel his arms, legs, or anything else. perhaps it was better that way.
letting out a sigh, shinji had one thing left that encompassed his mind. shinji had one message, one feeling that he was sure he would never let go of.
i wish i never met you, kaworu.
