ok so i’m rewatching into the spiderverse for the millionth time (it is my favourite movie of all time) in preparation for watching the sequel and in the first battle when miles is watching his original spider-man fight the prowler and he like holds the collider he says “i’m so tired” and like idk something about that to me is just so so sad to me. and then after the explosion when he’s like a little trapped in the rubble and he’s like “i’m just taking a little rest”. i just. mans was so so tired, just constantly fighting for everybody else and he never gets the rest or peace he deserves. and he’s so sure he’s gonna get back up and get out of there and then he’s just gone. he dies almost totally alone. he was just 26. i just have so many feelings about 1610 peter parker. anyway if you need me i’ll be crying about it.

i have a confession to make
alright. i need to preface this by saying that in my defence, i first read lockwood and co when i was like 12. but i need to come clean. i never realised that holly munro was a lesbian until i read the series again this year before the show came out. when she tells lucy that there are other options than george and lockwood i always fully thought she meant kipps and was always so confused cause they had no chemistry. it wasn’t until this second read through where i caught the line about her ‘female roomate’ that it hit me in the face that duh of fuckin course holly is a lesbian. what’s more embarrassing is that as a queer person i am constantly looking for queer and queer-coded characters and making my own up when there aren’t any and i still missed it. this is the same person who is absolutely certain that every single member of lockwood and co is queer and it never occured to me that holly was a lesbian, let alone a canon one. anyway stan lesbian icon holly munro, can’t believe i missed it

it drives me bat shit crazy when people compare helnik, kanej, and wesper and say that helnik and kanej are so deep an profound and all “i would’ve come for you” and “only in death will i be kept from this oath” but then say oh lol wesper is such a dorky quirky disaster, he kissed the wrong boy. when people say like “kaz reunited inej with her family, matthias gave up his religion for nina and jesper kissed the wrong boy” like there is something so reductive and infantilising about it that just drives me nuts. its crazy how the only queer couple in the series so far is reduced to made to feel silly and stupid compared to the depth and meaning of the hetero couples. like wesper is just as deep and meaningful and beautiful and does not deserve to be treated like a joke or less than. kanej, helnik, and wesper are all silly and deep and incredible and shouldn’t be compared. stop reducing the only openly queer couple in the whole series to the butt of a joke.

it has been literal YEARS since I read the shadow hunter books and i am STILL not over the incest jace-clary storyline. besties it isn’t even the grossness of it all it’s the fact that 1) they just believed the evil, pathological bad guy who would do anything to destroy them and 2) how literally easy it is to disprove the incest theory. CATARINA LOSS LITERALLY WORKED IN A HOSPITAL just get her to do a damn DNA test and whoop oh my god look how easy it was they weren’t siblings. still drives me nuts to this day. WHY WOULD YOU JUST WITHOUT QUESTION BELIEVE YOUR EVIL DAD???? WHY WOULD YOU DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO TEST THIS THEORY?????

i have a lot of thoughts, and complicated ones at that, about shadow and bone season 2. but one thing i absolutely, completely hated was the weird Tolya-Inej eye contact, hinting-at-romance bullshit. and not for any kanej reasons but for the disservice it does to tolya’s character. he is one of my favourite in the entire series straight up and he’s so overlooked and is now being done so dirty. that man is so clearly aro-ace. so obviously. he talks about in the books having his poems and that being enough for him. he’s filled with so much love. just platonic love for his family; tamar, nikolai, zoya, etc. he made it so clear that he doesn’t need romantic love to be fulfilled and that is so important. and there is such a shortage of aro-ace characters anywhere that using him to like cause dramas or hurtles for a het relationship is so dirty and cheap. anyway stan aro-ace tolya and the best friendship that he and inej deserve

besties i just know i have the potential for such deep and thoughtful insights and essays about my fav series and characters. i just don’t have the energy. the patience if you will. i would love to tell you all about it but i refuse to go find evidence for it. thats a lot of work. how do i know lockwood is neurodivergent? how do i know wesper is more beautiful and deep than people give it credit for? how do i know david kostyk is autistic? vibes next question

I feel like often times people completely miss the point of the darkling and just further prove pretty privilege. Like the whole point of his character is to critique the overused trope of the dark, brooding, “morally grey”, immortal love interest that too many romance books fall into. Like the whole point is that he’s attractive and charming and STILL IRREDEEMABLE AND EVIL. Almost everything he does and all the ways he connects with Alina is a manipulation tactic. His character also critiques and highlights how creepy the immortal love interest trope is, especially in YA romance novels, where the man is hundreds or thousands of years old and the girl is still a teenager. There is a reason they always go for teenagers who don’t know any better instead of an actual adult who’s at least on a somewhat similar plane of maturity as them, and that is because they are vulnerable and easy to manipulate and it is creepy. straight up. there is a reason that the darkling consistently surrounds himself with vulnerable teenager girls like alina, zoya, and genya. its because he knows what to say to manipulate them and use them for his own ends with literal regard for them as people. and people totally miss the point of his admittedly tragic past which is that you can have a sad upbringing and it still doesn’t excuse or make up for your own horrific actions. so yeah all jokes about turning to the dark side for ben barnes aside, if the darkling wasn’t hot people wouldn’t sympathise with him nearly as much and he does not deserve to be redeemed. literally a canon woman abuser. although his character and what he represents and what he critiques is very fascinating to me. anyway stan literally almost any other man in the grishaverse
