>> SCOTT PILGRIMâS KILLING GAME LIFE : PROLOGUE
âŠ
19 peopleâother than Scott Pilgrimâexactly how Gideon described it.
Other than the mandatory attire, there were cocktail drinks being handed out by butlers left and right. Of course, Wallace Wells and his friend, the Other Scott, as people called him, had run off to chase down just about every butler he could find to get more drinks once the ones they were currently drinking had run out. Scottâs gaze ran from one person to the other, naming off each of them in his head.
Kim Pine, Stephen Stills, and Young Neil were all back up against one of the walls, idly talking to each other. Knives Chau was snagging food from the small buffet and pushing it into her mouth while having a conversation with Ramona Flowers. Envy Adamsâoh God, why did she have to be hereâwas trying to coax Todd Ingram into dancing with her, but he was too busy trying to find wherever Wallace was running off to. Julie Powers, with no one to shitâtalk to, sat alone on the living room couch, taking gentle sips of her cocktail. Scottâs younger sister, Stacey Pilgrim, had just walked over to Kim, Stephen, and Neil to join their conversation. Lucas Wilson and Joel Macmillan were sneaking off into the backyardâmost likely to get high off of whatever weed they managed to smuggle in. Jimmy Monet was also near the buffet, glaring enviously at Wallace as Other Scott followed him around the first floor. The rest of the five previous evil exesâRoxie Ritcher, Lucas Lee, Matthew Patel, and the Katayanagi twinsâwere all talking to each other on the other end of the living room.
Why did Gideon Graves invite himâScottâin the first place? Didnât he hate him? Or at least heâs supposed to hate him. But now that the League is disbanded, he wasnât sure anymore. But what if this was just some elaborate plan toâ
âMaybe you should stop overthinking and enjoy the party while youâre here, guy.â
Scott whipped his head around, eyes meeting the source of the sudden voice. âWallace? When did you get over here?â
âI saw you just staring off into space from across the room.â His roommate explained, cheeks flushed, gently rocking from one foot to the other, and another drink in hand. It was safe to say that heâd already gotten drunk. âYou gotta stop worrying! Who cares if it was hosted by Gideon? Heâs throwing this awesome party for us⊠so⊠like⊠enjoy it. And if he comes out and tries to kill you or⊠something⊠then youâre allowed to tell me âI told you soâ.â
Scott furrowed his brows, the corners of his lips angling in a similar fashion. After some silent contemplating, he decided that he should probably listen to Wallace. âI guess⊠maybe youâre right.â He sighed in defeat.
âIâm always right.â Wallace gave Scott a gentle shoulder pat. âNow, do you wanna raid the upstairs with me while Gideon isnât here?â
âIâll only go to make sure you donât throw up on his shit.â Scott mumbled, hand already being grabbed as he was weaved through the first floor.
âI can control my stomach a lot better than you can, Pilgrim.â Wallace explains as the two of them reach the bottom of the staircase. As the first step was taken up the stairs, another step was taken down, from the top of them.
âSorry, guys, upstairs is off limits for now!â The man himself, Gideon Graves, descended the staircase, fumbling his staff in his hand.
âBoooooo, we were totally gonna raid your stuff.â Wallace called, stepping aside to let the other ravenâhaired man through. Scott also took a step to the side, but kept his lips sealed as he did. Despite the quietness that came from the tawnyâhaired male, the daggers he glared were deafening. The music came to a stopâas if on commandâand 18 other heads turned towards the stairs.
âSorry it took me so long to get down here, I had to do a couple of last minute preparations.â Gideon explained, passing the two and entering the crowd.
âPreparations for what?â Scott asks, however his question was not met with an answer, which just let his suspicions grow. The otherâs sudden appearance even got Crash and Joel to come back insideâalbeit eyes red. Now, with everyoneâs attention, Gideon ordered for everyone to gather in the family room, and that he had a special announcement to make before the party âreally started to get goingâ. Just more red flags that began to show up in Scottâs field of vision. How was no one else seeing this? Or at least mentioning it, if they are? And people tell Scott that heâs the oblivious one. Or maybe heâs just reading too much into it, like Wallace said⊠he sighed, taking a seat on the wide couch right next to the aforementioned ravenâhaired male. Gideon stood before them all, right below the television that hung up on the wall. People crowded into the living room, trying not to knock over the expensive prized possessions Gideon had displayed on just about every flat surface.
âI just wanted to start off by thanking you all for showing up!â The other ravenâhaired male in glasses began. âThere were a few others I sent invites to, but I guess they didnât make it. A shame, really, but weâll just have lots of fun without them!â
Scott gave Wallace a worried glance out of the corner of his eye. Wallace notices this and returns with a look of tiredness. Scott sees this as the other silently telling him to stop worrying, and glances back forward without a response.
âI never really⊠decided on an ending time for this partyâŠâ Gideon continued, fumbling with his cane. âWhen do you guys think it should end? In a few hours⊠midnight⊠tomorrow morning?â
The crowd was quiet, but they shared confused glances, as if some of them were genuinely contemplating an answer to the question.
âOr how aboutâŠâ He quickly fished into one of his suit pockets, and pulled out a small remote. âNever?â His thumb landed on one of the buttons and pressed it down against the plastic remote, and sudden rumbling could be heard from outside. Thatâs when everyone elseâs faces dropped. Everyone elseâs⊠besides Wallace. He wasnât buying any of this.
âWhat?â Piped up Lucas Lee, brows furrowing over brown eyes.
âI KNEW IT!â Shouted Scott, angrily leaping off of the sofa, which turned everyoneâs shocked and confused gazes towards him.
Gideonâs eyebrow arched upwards. âYou knew what?â
âYouâreââ The ginger stuttered, immediately losing his confidence, âyou gathered usâmeâhere⊠for⊠something!â
âYeah, he gathered us here for a party.â Wallace spoke, condescendingly.
âOh, no, heâs right!â Gideon hummed. âAbout my true intentions, that is. You really thought that I just gathered you all here for a party? Maybe Scott is the smarter one afterall.â
Thatâs when Wallaceâs face finally dropped. âOkay, Iâm with Lucas on this one. What?â
âYâknow how parties have games?â The other explained. âWell, Iâve always wanted to host a murder mystery!â Gideon snapped a finger, and a handful of butlers flooded into the living room and handed each house guest a small tablet with the three-G logo they all knew too well engraved on the back of them. âThese G-PadsâG-Handbooksâwhatever you want to call them, will be a major helping hand!â
âThatâs a stupid name for them.â Kim called out, green-hazel eyes narrowed into an unamused glare.
âOh?â The partyâs host turns his attention towards the girl in the suit with the red bob. âWould you like to be our first example of why we follow the rules on those tablets? And keep your mouth shut when your host is trying to speak?â
Kim snorted out a chuckle. âYou wouldnât actually hurt us just for some party game.â
Gideon glared back, pressing another button on the remote in his hand without even giving it a glance. That was when a small portion of the back wall opened, and a mechanical claw flew out of it. The claw latched onto Kimâs arm, tightened its grip, and yanked her off of the couch and placed her next to Gideon. With the wind practically knocked out of her, the redhead tried to pull out of the clawâs grasp, but failed. Another claw emerged from the wall, this one holding a long blade. The claw pressed the blade up against Kimâs arm.
âI wouldnât?â Gideon threatened. âKeep talking then, and see where that gets you.â
The redhead parted her lips to say one more snappy remark, but decided that it wasnât the smartest option, and opted to stay silent, and pieced her lips back together. The claw let go of her arm, and she stomped back over to take her spot on the couch, gently rubbing at the spot on her arm that started to form a bruise.
âAnd before you guys look for an escape route, the button I pressed just a couple of minutes ago unleashed a giant dome around the entire property! You can take a look for yourselves!â It was almost like it was instinct, everyone got up all at once and rushed outside. Calmly, the gameâs host followed them all.
He was right about the dome. It surrounded the entire property of the mansion, which luckily still included the yard around the building itself, so they had places to roam, but it was still quite cramped. The front courtyard was still accessible, and the roundabout with the fountain in the center, but beyond that was past the walls of the dome. Scott secretly hoped that the pool was still inside the dome⊠from the looks of it, it was a really nice one that he wanted to take a swim in sooner or laterâŠ
No, what on earth was he talking about? He just learned that he was trapped here inside of this dome with all of his friendsâand Gideon Graves. The pool didnât matter, unless it was going to help them all escape. He needed to find a way out of here, and fast.
âThe only true way you guys are able to escape is if you kill one of the other House Guests and get away with it! I suggest you all start getting settled in and look around, because youâll be here⊠forever, basically!â Gideon piped up, as if he was reading Scottâs mind. He probably was, too, Scott thought angrily.
âYour dinnerâs at 6:30 PM, meet in the dining hall when the time comes! And read through the manual in the handbook. Itâll tell you everything you need to know about this place! Your first killing motive will be presented tomorrow morning! Iâll wake you all up bright and early for that! But you have most of the rest of the evening to explore, by most means. Certain areas will be locked for obvious reasons, though.â And with that, he had walked off. There was a thick cloud of silence that hung over everyoneâs heads for about 40 seconds. A mixture of feelings arose amongst the crowd. Disbelief, shock, and fear were the most prominent.
âThisâ⊠This isnât real. Right? Gideonâs just⊠playing a prank. An early April Foolâs prank. Yeah. Totally.â Stephen Stills anxiously broke the cloud of silence, face already covered in sweat, crossing his arms uncomfortably over his chest.
âTwo months early? Would he really be that dedicated?â Wallace commented back, tone still lighthearted despite the situation theyâre in.
âWallace, this isnât the time for your one liners.â Ramona Flowers said, gaze landing on the slender dark haired man. âOur lives are at stake here.â
âPlease. You really believe that this is real? Yeah, Gideonâs a douchebag but he wouldnât go this far.â Wallace argues back.
âI think we should at least listen to what he said⊠about investigating.â Scott interrupted the two before a proper argument could break out. âWhy donât we break each other up into groups and take different areas⊠and then⊠regroup for dinner and tell each other what we found?â
The group fell silent for another moment.
âLetâs⊠read the handbook first though, yeah? It might have some important information weâd need for investigating.â Stephen suggests afterwards. âMaybe thereâs a map or something? Then we can settle on where everyone should look.â
They all agreed, some silently, others muttering âokayâsâ and ârightâsâ. They all opened up the handbooks, finding the button on the sides of them and holding it down until the handbooks lit up. The same logo that was engraved on the back of them was shown on the screen once they were turned on.
âOh, yeah, thereâs a map, Stephen was right.â Neil mumbled, clicking on the tab and opening it, as everyone did the same once they had also found it.
âThe fourth floor is⊠locked? Why?â Scott questioned.
âItâs probably where all of Gideonâs personal stuff is, like⊠his bedroom and stuff.â Todd replied, quietly, mostly glancing over towards Wallace in search of a praising reply for the minimum effort he put into answering Scottâs question. With no response, he glanced back down at the tablet, brows furrowed in annoyance.
âOh, yeah, that makes sense.â Instead, Scott just responded back, then began to separate everyone into scouting groups. âOkay so⊠me, Wallace, Stephen, Neil, andâŠââ Scott paused, eyes casting towards whoever was left. After a few beats of quiet, someone volunteered.
âIâllâuh⊠Iâll go.â
It was Matthew Patel, awkwardly picking at his fingernails with a flickering gaze. He wasnât really sure where this sudden confidence came from either, but this was good right? He wanted to help.
âAnd Matthew. Sure. Weâll all investigate the⊠first floor.â The tawnyâhaired male gave a slow nod. âKim, Ramona, Envy, Julie, Knives, and Stacey. Youâre on the second floor. Todd, Lucas, Ken and Kyle, and Roxie, third floor. And that leaves Crash, Joel, Other Scott, and Jimmy to investigate the⊠surprisingly big basement, and the outside of the mansion. Front and back.â
âAnd who made you leader, Pilgrim?â Envy spat, crossing her arms over her chest.
âDo you see anyone else trying to lead?â Stephen spoke back, irritation slipping into his voice, and hands shoving into his pant pockets.
âYeah, Envy, I agree with them, for once. Letâs just go investigate. Maybe weâll find a way out, without the guys, too.â Julie tried to coax the tall redhead, the last part coming out in a mutter.
Stephen was about to snap back another scolding statement, but he found his words entangled and knotted up in his throat, unable to come out. He clamped his jaw shut, settling for giving the brunette a disappointed, annoyed stare, letting his words untangle. Now that he was able to properly speak, he parted his lips once more. âWeâre all stuck here together, Julie. So weâll find a way out together.â
âWeâll see about that.â She said, avoiding eye contact, and silently gesturing for the other people she was assigned with to follow her.
The first floor group had only just noticed that not only the second floor group, but the other groups had already departed while they were talking. âOh, okay. Everyoneâs gone.â Scott informed the others, as if they werenât there, also seeing that everyone else was gone.
âFirst floor, you said?â Matthew asked in confirmation. âThe floors are pretty big, should we split up? Three of us take one side, two of us take the other?â
At that, Neil shuffled closer to Stephen, and grabbed his hand. Stephen flashed him a smile, and squeezed his hand in return. However, knowing that Wallace and Scott probably wouldnât want Matthew to tag along with them, the scruffy brunette took this chance to try and befriend the former Evil Ex, at least. âYou can come with Neil and me, Matt.â He offered, beckoning him over.
âIt looks like the Dining room, Kitchen, Laundry room, and a bathroom are off to the left, and the Living room, two more bathrooms, two of our bedrooms, and a Study room off to the rightâŠâ Neil says, still staring down at the map in his handbook.
âScott and I will take the right, you guys take the left.â Wallace says, giving his roommate a soft pat on the shoulder. âCome on, Scotty, Iâll prove to you that this is all fake.â The jetâhaired male said, his calm and cool composure still shining through, standing out against everyone elseâs panicked states. He then walked off, back into the house.
Scott gave Wallace a cold glare as he walked off. How was he still so relaxed about this? This could be entirely serious, and he wasnât taking it that way atâ...
He paused. As his glare lingered, his eyes made a mishap and slipped down Wallaceâs body as he walked away. Watching him walk in that dress just furthered his glare as his eyes flickered back up. This wasnât the time to think about that. Their lives were at stake here, and they had to find a way out of here. Scott let out a breathy scoff as he followed the other back into the mansion.

"Vegan Academy"
Todd had a scowl on his face as he was brought into the school building. He was about 16 now, and he wasn't here by choice. His father had forced him to come here, but Todd had no desire to be here. He didn't need to be corrected. He had the willpower to be vegan on his own, and he was strong enough to handle it. But that's not what his father thought.
He was practically being dragged by the arm onto the campus by an employee, a tall man with dark hair, sunglasses and a suit. Maybe there was some snooty-ass dress code here. How annoying. As he was taken into the school building, something was immediately off-putting. It was dark here.. it smelled like a hospital, mostly sanitary products, though there was a hint of metal of some sort. There were big metal doors every couple feet along the walls. It was cold.. and eerily quiet.
Todd couldn't help but look around in curiosity as the man kept walking just ahead of him. He didn't like the idea of this much at all, but he'd stick around and see what was up.
"What the fuck kind of school is this..?"
Todd muttered under his breath, before he finally was taken into a room with the stranger. There were so many people, but none of them looked like students or teachers... They kind of reminded him of scientists, lab coats and all. The room was nowhere near a conventional classroom. It was some kind of sci-fi movie type containment and testing facility.
"Is this the new subject?"
One of the people asked. The man in the suit soon replied, this being the first time Todd had heard him speak.
"Yes, it's him. You should be careful around him. He seems more aggressive than the other test subjects."
"Ex-fucking-scuse me?? Test Subjects?"
Todd interjected, deeply confused and absolutely not okay with whatever was happening. Before he could process the situation any further, he was suddenly being dragged by the man in the suit into the containment area. Todd panicked, doing his best to resist.
"Let go of me, god dammit!!! Let me go! Who the hell put you up to this?!"
Todd shouted, struggling to pull away from the man, feeling a horrible headache coming up as he became more stressed.
"Hurry and get away from the subject."
The scientist, a man with black hair and a name tag signed with the last name 'Katayanagi', warned the man. The man quickly threw Todd into the containment area, and before Todd knew it, the door was shut and locked.
"What the fuck is this?! Why am I here?! I demand to talk with my father!!"
Todd exclaimed, his voice raised as he started banging on what looked like a mirror. He'd seen into this containment area earlier, so it was likely a window. Just one he couldn't see out of from this side. Something then felt intensely wrong... His head felt like it was splitting.. all of this stress was messing with his system.
Falling to his knees, Todd groaned with pain, putting a hand to his head as he tried to breathe. He could feel his hair stand on end, and everything seemed to have a green tint to it. In a panicked and angry state, he looked down at his free hand. It was tingling, almost painfully. He then let out a shout as he realized it was.. almost mutating, growing out branches and sprouts. He screamed as he held out his arm.
"WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?!"
He shouted again, tears coming to his eyes. He'd never been more uncomfortable and terrified in his entire life.
"The subject's stress is increasing rapidly. Administer a tranquilizer."
Dr. Katayanagi announced. Suddenly, some sort of robotic arm came down from the ceiling, and Todd felt what seemed like a syringe go into his arm. He suddenly felt sleepy, and he sighed softly as his vision went blurry. He fell to lay on his side..
"The subject came into contact with the serum somehow.. it must mean somebody got a hold of it. But if it's already having this effect on him, he's likely had prolonged encounters with it. We should contain and control this for now, and figure out what else to do with him at a later date."
This was the last Todd heard before finally going unconscious.

Here's a lil old SELF SHIP fanfic I made for đ„Šđ„€
Get Up
(angst / comfort) (CW: hinted "bang bang" around the end)
It's been at least a month and a half since Todd and Cola were official, while they had to deal with an angry Envy Adams, the relationship has been going steady.
Cola and Todd walk out of a convenience store, Todd munching on a celery stick while Cola has a blow pop sticking in his mouth. As they walked together, Todd kept talking about how much he's been improving strength wise ever since they started dating, basically humble bragging to Cola but also sort of thanking Cola for making him be on the path of being a better man, But Cola gets distracted by a thought that pops into his mind.
He stops for a second as he feels a sense of deja vu...which triggers him to take a deep breath before asking Todd a kinda loaded question (to Cola at least). He'd ask Todd if he truly liked him, like this wasn't just some stunt or some fling to him
Todd (as simple-minded as he was) quickly replied, "Yeah, I mean, it's not like I can fake sparks or anything!" but he'd see Cola's facial expression and kinda realize that something was a bit off with his new boyfriend. There was no playful teasing or loving "idiots", just Cola being distracted by a thought on his mind...So Todd would stop by a bench and would ask Cola to sit with him as he'd ask what's wrong.
Cola would look at his shoes that were covered in snow as he would clam up a bit. he wasn't used to feeling this way, but todd would put a hand on Cola's, reminding him that they could practically get through anything together
"I mean, we both were able to take on envy...and she's a...bit scary hahah.."
Cola would take this into account and then gulp, before recounting a past relationship he was in before he got famous.
He thought he fell in love, he felt the sparks between the two of them...but rather quickly those sparks started to fade, and Cola started to realize how much his ex toyed with him emotionally.
"He...never really cared about me, he didn't care about my interests or anything, he just...stringed me along until it was time to fuck, and when it was convenient for him to like me.."
He spoke, trying to fight the tears away. Cola would reveal that while he did get famous off of the pain he had to go through, it was the relationship itself that triggered him....and kinda twisted his perception on men. He was so embarrassed that he got played by a dick, that he practically changed his name so he could never be associated with that side with him again. That vulnerable weak part of him, the part that he let his ex see, the part that he was embarrassed of... And changed it to Cola. The big shot, The music's new it boy, and now Todd ingram's boyfriend.
Cola would shake a bit before glancing at Todd
"and now I'm hanging out with you, and I'm just like '...what if I get hurt again?'
'what if he's just stringing you along again?' "
Todd was, kinda moved by Cola's display of emotions, especially since he wasn't used to seeing this side of him. But Todd would then reach out to Cola and give him one of the tightest hugs he's ever given anyone.
"Well do what I do and don't listen to your noggin!"
"huh?..."
That explains a lot....but still.
"Listen, I kinda get it. Your brain is making you think that you can't be in love anymore because of some jerk in the past, but look at you now! and besides, if you were just some fling to me, I wouldn't be constantly trying to get to know you!"
Cola's roommate and his manager could agree...since Todd has been harassing both of them for Cola info
"If I didn't like you, you'd DEFINITELY know it. But trust me, I do. Dang, if you want me to, I could steal a star for you!"
Cola would blush heavily...taking comfort in Todd's words before softly hugging him back
"Todd..I don't think a big ball of gas could fit in my room.."
Cola acknowledged while chuckling a bit
"Wait. Stars are made out of gas?"
This would cause Cola to laugh, making him feel better. Cola would wipe his tears away before smiling
"You're right. I'm not gonna listen to my brain that much anymore. I'm just gonna, feel."
"THERE WE GO! now, are we gonna kick this ex's ass~"
"Todd, no... even though he kinda deserves it. But I know something that'll make me feel better without either of us going to jail for assault?"
"Ooooo what?"
Cola would then whisper in Todd's ear
"How about another private listening session at my place again~"
Todd's face would be brighter than a sick child's nose before eagerly nodding.
Cola would get up, stretching his body before walking Todd back to his place. He'd look at Todd with his eyes practically filled with affection. For once, someone mattered to Cola... like they said they do...
