Since I stepped back from the Reylo fandom and removed my fics (RIP Broken Things), I’ve been working on original fiction. I’ve been terrible about coming back to tumblr and checking in despite all my lovely readers and friends asking about my original work and what I’ve been up to, so I’m here with an update post of sorts. FORGIVE ME. First, I’ve been writing for Lemon and Lime, a feminist publication with monthly issues of short stories and art. It has been absolutely amazing to put my original stories out there and work with such an amazing team of ladies.
Tumblr media
Here’s the link if you want to check it out: https://lemonlimefic.com/
I’m Camilla there and it has links to my twitter and instagram, so come say hello! I’m on those platforms way more often than tumblr
Tumblr media
Here’s a link specifically to my profile if you’d like to check out what I’ve been writing: https://lemonlimefic.com/creators/camilla/ I’ve had a few different short stories published and it’s been the most amazing feeling. I wouldn’t have gotten that far without the support and encouragement of my Reylo family so I’m sending all of my thanks and love to you
Tumblr media
And for my latest and EXCITING news… I’m running a discord community for Lemon and Lime. It’s for all writers, artists, and readers to come and connect with other creators and have access to our chats, resources, events, sprints, etc.  I’ve been running the Reylo Writing Den discord for… several years now, and it’s been an amazing experience that introduced me to so many great friends and kept me on track with my writing. I couldn’t be more excited to broaden that now to run a community with writers, artists, and readers of all kinds.  Here’s a peek at the discord:
Tumblr media
If you’re a writer, reader, or artist of any kind and you’re looking for a community to join, friends to make, people to connect with, ways to keep on track with your writing or art, fun events to share your work, self promotion opportunities, or anything related, check out the discord!
It’s run through Lemon and Lime so you can read more about it and how to join on their Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/lemonlimefic ANYWAY… my final thing, which happens to be Reylo related, is an apology for not getting back to my full inbox of people asking for my stories that I took down. I logged in today to share this news about the new discord and felt terrible to see all of the messages I missed about that. If you missed downloading any of my Reylo stories and wanted them (Broken Things, Written on the Heart, Silver and Shade, etc), feel free to message me now. I pinky promise I’ll be logging into tumblr a bit more and checking my inbox And again, biggest THANK YOU to everyone for all the encouragement and support you gave me while I was in the fandom. I don’t know that I ever would have made the jump into original fiction without it. Please reach out and say hi and I hope to reconnect (or connect for the first time, new friends are the best) in the new Lemon and Lime discord community!

Frankly, I blame Harry Potter.
Though I must admit, it’s perhaps unfair of me. It’s undeniable that the history of misinformation regarding magic individuals and their arts started long before the nineties. Amulets and wands and potions and orbs and all that utter crap—they’ve been around forever. Somewhere in the Smithsonian there is probably a clay tablet full of levitating spells that some Babylonian schmuck wrote down four thousand years ago.
And that’s fine. Whatever floats your boat. If someone’s into charmed swords or mythical trees I encourage them to pursue their interests. However, the fact remains that these objects help promote an idea of magic as something that can be owned, condensed into formulas, occasionally stored into artifacts for safekeeping, which… nope. Not at all.
Fast forward to 1997—ironically, the year I was born—and enter Harry J. Potter, prodigious boy wizard who walks about in his “magic” cloak, brandishes his “magic” wand, casts “magic” spells. It becomes the most popular piece of media since the Bible—which, let’s be real, didn’t do us witches any favors, either—and brainwashes people into thinking that magic is something that can be pulled out of a top hat, rather than a way to interact with the energy that resides in the world surrounding us. Entertaining book, sure, but it gives unfair, ridiculous expectations to well-meaning people.
Well-meaning people like my sister Hannah, who ambushes me on a Wednesday afternoon with the excuse of needing help with her taxes, slams a cup of my favorite milkshake on the diner’s table, and tells me,
“I need you to make someone fall in love with me.”

These days, Morgan finds excitement in the small things: daydreaming about long-deferred vacations, swiping through matches on monster-dating apps, and battling incipient moth infestations at her yarn shop. Anything for some stimulation amid smothering predictability. Except it turns out her moth problem is bigger than she thought. Much bigger. She’s pretty sure she’s seen pornos that start like this…

Thirty, maybe forty years ago, when the rampant commercialization of Halloween wasn’t quite what it is today, October the thirty-first was simply one day out of three hundred and sixty-five where human children dressed up in silly costumes and begged sweets from their neighbors. That, I could more or less handle. Sure it was mildly annoying. Sometimes more than mildly annoying, on the rare occasions a particularly intrepid group of children knocked on my door expecting sweets.
But it was nothing compared to what it is now. In the current century Halloween is no longer simply a one-day excuse for small humans to have some childish fun. Some years this monster-obsessed nonsense starts as early as mid-summer.
And it isn’t limited to the very young anymore either. If I had a nickel for every time I have seen a grown adult dressed up like a “vampire” over the past twenty years I would never have to steal from blood banks again.
In the abstract, I do recognize humans living during end-stage capitalism need some form of escapism to keep from going mad. Even if someone like me doesn’t get to them first, the cumulative ill effects of poor voting booth decisions, climate change—or both—will soon have them all praying for death anyway.
So, escapism? Sure. I understand the appeal of escapism. I can understand why people build pretend islands on their computers and populate them with cute little animals with ridiculous names (or whatever it is they do). I can understand why they drink alcohol and take illicit drugs and engage in risky sex with each other.
I can also almost understand why they watch terrible television programs like Love Island or Dancing with the Stars.
But what utterly stymies me—what I will never understand, not if I live for another thousand years—is why so many humans have decided their escapism needs to take the form of celebrating monsters like me.

The days grew ever shorter, but passed slowly, like honey, suspended in the sunlight. Aithne tried to not let worry wear on her, but the sidelong glances Sebastian gave her made her aware of the fact that she was failing. She sat, snuggled contently into the corner of her new couch, meticulously and beautifully crafted by Sebastian: the answer to where he so often disappeared to during the weeks since he had stumbled through the veil. They had carefully brought it into her small home, and had laughed over the sheer size of it as they loaded it up with all of her pillows that had littered her floor. Aithne had sworn Sebastian had magic flowing in his veins after thoroughly inspecting it and all of the intricately carved details in the wood, small birds, and animals running up the sturdy arms and frolicking over the curved back. She had to bite her lip and turn away to fluff up the pillows for a third time at his low rumble of a laugh as he assured her he did not. Now he was sitting on the opposite side of the couch, flicking through a book in elvish with a thoughtful look upon his face and her feet in his lap, his thumb running up the arch of her foot with just enough pressure not to tickle, but light enough that she twitched every time in fear of it. His smile was addictive and she found it hard to focus on her own reading. They were both firmly ignoring that tomorrow was the solstice. She flipped her small tome closed and dropped it onto the cushions beside her and stretched. Sebastian stilled, and she watched his chest halt as her toes brushed his lower abdomen. He resumed breathing when she retreated, sitting up and tucking her legs beneath her. “Read anything fascinating?” she asked with a grin. “There are some very nice pictures.” He closed his own book and leaned over to place it on the floor. “Dinner?” “Yes.” They stood as one and pottered around her too-small kitchen. Aithne continuously quashed the thought that this is their last dinner together. They just had to survive tomorrow and she could see him home safe. ~*~ Today’s Story Spotlight by Lemon & Lime Creator Melusine. 🍋 Subscribe today to keep reading.

It was somewhere after midnight; nobody else was likely to be up, let alone using the washer, so Alix didn’t worry too much about having to fish out someone else’s forgotten delicates to get her quilt into the wash. In bare feet she went down the three flights of stairs, turning the corner and bumping the half-open door to the laundry room open.
Inside, there was a man.
Alix stilled.
No. It wasn’t a man at all.
Her brain had seen the man-shaped figure and filled in the rest, but it wasn't… there was no way it could be human. Firstly, he—it—had to be well over seven feet tall. It had the body language of someone who’d just been caught doing something, and wasn’t particularly pleased about it. There was no rule against bothering Creatures, but they liked to be left alone.
Alix looked down at the corner, where the bread and milk had been left by the other residents.
“I'm… sorry,” she managed. “I didn't—”
“No, wait,” the Creature replied. Its voice was more feeling than sound, or maybe it was concrete dragged across gravel, or maybe all of her memories before the age of five, or maybe it was the wisp of smoke of a blown-out candle made solid and suspended in a drop of ice. It reached towards her, almost reflexively, six-fingered hands coming to sharp, claw-like points. Not threatening.
Beseeching.
Lonely.
He was lonely.

“Don’t shoot.”
Perhaps it was the shock of hearing him speak, or perhaps it was the way he looked almost like a film star with his straight nose, his blond hair, and his blue eyes that caught her off guard. Or perhaps it was that, after months and months of Yiddish, she wasn’t used to hearing German outside of school. Or maybe it was the way that the sunset behind her made those crystal blue eyes of his seem like they were bleeding along with the cut on the side of his head.
𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘯'𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘵 𝘩𝘪𝘮, 𝘏𝘦𝘴𝘺𝘢? 𝘏𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶.
𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘥𝘰 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶.
“Thank you,” he said when a minute had gone by and she didn’t put a bullet through him. His whole body relaxing back against the tree. “Thank you.”
“How do you know I’m not going to kill you?” she asked him, her finger tightening around the trigger.
“You have a kind face,” he said. Naum had said the same thing to her when she’d first arrived in the camp somewhere deep in the Naliboki Forest, starving and frightened with her sister Sarah. She hated the words on his lips as much as she had loved them on Naum’s. 𝘈 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘣𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘸, she had thought. 𝘏𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘰.
“Do I?” She tried to make her voice go hard, narrowing her eyes, tightening her lips in a growl.
“You learned German in school,” he said. Said, but did not ask. He was eying her closely, his eyes taking in the heavy dark coat that was actually Naum’s and the thick boots that she’d taken from Sarah when she was dying for, they had always shared shoes. “You’re probably not used to carrying a gun.”
𝘋𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸 𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘨𝘶𝘯? Naum hadn’t, though he pretended otherwise. Every night when he put his away in the zemlyanka she watched as a weight seemed to lift from his shoulders. 𝘛𝘩𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭.

Out of all her friends, Aya was probably the least excited about spending Holy Week on the island. She hadn’t lost as much weight as she’d hoped after four months of intermittent fasting, which meant that she would look like a bloated whale next to Casey, Tess, and Giselle in their bikinis. In addition, nothing about El Llanto that she’d read online suggested that it offered much in the way of comfort—Marco, Julius, and Pat were eager to put long-dormant Boy Scout abilities to the test, while their girlfriends didn’t care either way as long as the stress of city living could be left behind for a while—but Aya was high maintenance, which, she supposed, was part of the reason she’d been the seventh wheel since their university days.
She’d proposed heading up to the mountains for vacation, but the others had wanted sun and sand. Considering that her parents had named her Sinaya after an ancient goddess of the sea woven into the creation myths of their native land, it was ironic that she hated the beach; her skin burned easily and she didn’t like sweating or going barefoot out of doors. But she’d lost the group vote and so here they were, crammed into a tiny wooden pump boat that swayed precariously from side to side as it navigated the sun-dappled blue waters of the Pacific Ocean.
The craggy silhouette of El Llanto loomed in the distance, growing larger as they approached. Aya squinted at it through pink-tinted Wayfarers; it was a small island, pristine shores as white as snow melting away into a backdrop of emerald green jungle. To the east, springing up from a profusion of undergrowth, was a rocky ledge on which perched a stone lighthouse that, at first glance, appeared to be the only man-made structure in the whole area.
“Where’s the cabin?” she wondered out loud.
