It is, however, descriptive! There is a phone box; there is sex; there are various contrivances involving how isolated the phone box is to get Margo mentally there! AU IAC years with some sort of established relationship.

An extract (sadly G rated as I have been concentrating on the contrivances rather than the sex thus far):

He’s hovering beside the open door and for a moment she thinks he’s going to do the chivalrous thing and wait in the rain while she keeps dry. Instead, after considering the space around her feet, he joins her in the booth. She squashes herself as far into the back corner as possible to let him in. She’d been wrong in the strictest sense – they could both fit. It was not, however, particularly comfortable. There’s enough room that, standing facing each other, both leaning back into the walls, they can get the door shut with enough room to breathe but no more than an inch or two between their bodies. Sergei looks a little too smug about it for her liking. She raises her eyebrows at him. He shrugs, knocking the payphone’s handset from its cradle with a clatter. “We don’t know how long until the storm passes.”

Inherited Sins is a Lenara POV one shot about her and Sergei's relationship. I put it aside in the run up to S4 but with the Star City news I am so excited to revisit it soon! Sergei is living openly in the US and Lenara is tasked with telling him Margo is alive for Mind Game Reasons. Cue angst about their different relationships to the state, their own relationship, and Lenara's feelings about her role at Roscosmos/as a senior official in the Soviet regime.

Pool Table Case Fic - basic premise is that Phryne investigates a murder with another detective who's Jack's academy best friend. The victim was found on a pool table. Standard post s3/established Phrack shenanigans happen.

I was reflecting recently that I have never published any of my many proper MFMM case fics because I run out of steam on the case bits. This is by far the most developed of those but it's probably only 60-70% done, with the interesting personal bits being finished and the tricky case bits outstanding. It was a really developmental fic for me, taking a lot of the brunt of practice at getting back into fic writing after a few years away, and I do like a lot of the bits in it so I'd love to revisit it when I have time. This time last year I was literally in the middle of doing a big clean up and trimming the case bits back so it could be published when I decided to take a quick break and check out this show called 'For All Mankind' on AppleTV which could surely have no effect on me 🙃

“Why, Lenara?” he called from behind her. She stopped, forcing herself back around to face him. “Why what?” “Why this?” “It’s my job.” For the first time in years, Lenara saw Sergei smile. It was barely perceptible, sad and pitying, but she instantly recognised the seeds of that same look he’d always given her when she was being particularly impetuous. She wanted to smack it from his face. “Do not think I don’t understand,” he said gently. She couldn’t tell whether it was her training or her warring exhaustion and disbelief that stop the instinctive scoff breaking through the surface. Eyes boring into his face, she swallowed harder than she intended to. “On the contrary, you’ve made it quite clear that you don’t.”

Pool Table Case Fic

Snatching her drink back up, Phryne darted in the direction of the back of the house, sensing more than hearing Jack’s sigh as he followed. “No, no Dottie it’s really fine, really. Please don’t -” Hugh was fretting, trying to calm his agitated wife, Mr Butler watching unconvinced, when they entered the room. His left eye was mostly hidden by a rather impressive bruise, with not a little swelling and a cut on his cheekbone to accent it. Poor man, Phryne thought: even as a Senior Constable he still seemed to be suffering the under whims of Melbourne’s crims. “Inspector!” Dot rounded on Jack instantly. Phryne suppressed a smile at his fleeting passing resemblance to a rabbit caught in a headlight. Jack schooled his features into a professional mask and, using an equally official voice, tried to mollify her. “I do apologise for the condition of your husband this evening, Mrs Collins. I’m afraid there was a disturbance at the station, it really couldn’t be helped. I assure you, the situation is in hand now.” “It couldn’t be helped?! Hugh said you had Jenkins arresting a bunch of good-for-nothings. The only thing that boy is capable of arresting is a couple of children who’ve escaped from Catechism!” Phryne again pressed her lips into a thin line, struggling to hold her amusement in. Really, Dot could cow their constabulary counterparts so well they might both as well have been as green as the unfortunate Jenkins.

MM NYE 1974 - Cover You In Moonlight is set immediately after the events at the end of season 1. Molly goes looking for Margo at the jazz club's NYE party with the explicit intention of definitely not talking about her feelings about what happened on her mission and Margo's reaction in mission control. The title 'Cover You In Moonlight' is from Vienna Teng's 'Never Look Away'.

She sights a bird is the one I have been working on most recently! I started it while the early part of s4 was airing so it is, essentially, a fix it for Margo/Sergei with no consistent approach to what s4 canon is included/excluded. Korzhenko's government falls and Margo returns to the US where she and Sergei live openly. They must work to repair/build their relationship and also adopt a questionably behaved cat. It is both angsty and fluffy, and has massively grown arms and legs. Title is from an Emily Dickinson poem.

Cover You In Moonlight

“We don’t get on, Molly. That’s fine. Just don’t come around here making it my problem.” Margo turned to march away but, without thinking, Molly shot a hand out, gently grasping the cool skin just above the crook of her elbow. Both of them froze, staring at the point where their skin met. An unfamiliar feeling of uncertainty crept through her. She’d come here on some half-baked notion of getting Margo to – what? Open up? Why she’d expected anything different she didn’t know. The woman had her spikes out as always. Still standing stock still where Molly had caught her, Margo glanced at Molly’s face. Surprisingly she didn’t look angry. Her face was still set in a irritated frown, yes, but her eyes – those held something of the same apprehension that had brought Molly here in the first place. Maybe she had spent too long listening to Wayne talk about the importance of feeling one’s feelings this week or maybe she had spent too long doing the opposite of taking that advice. Whatever the reason, she found herself saying, a little angrily, “I like you, Margo.”

She sights a bird

Arriving home one evening after trying the new sushi restaurant across town, their debate on what Sergei should write in the notebook he keeps of their opinions on the various dining establishments they visit is interrupted by the sight of the cat sat imperiously on the front porch. She mews loudly as they approach, turning to the front door while flicking her tail at them. “I think she lives with us now,” Sergei says dryly as the cat races in the moment Margo opens the door. “I don’t know how that happened.” “I do,” he grins, walking over and taking Margo’s waist. “You are a soft touch, dearest.” “I certainly am not.” “For us you are,” he whispers. She narrows her eyes, her growing smile contravening the point she was trying to make.

Lake Names intrigues me.

Lake Names is one of my earlier FAM fics and was largely inspired by my research into the development of the JSC campus. It is short and sweet, and if I would sit down and concentrate on it for a few hours it would be done!

The premise is that during 2x06, Margo and Sergei run into each other beside one of the artificial lakes on campus. Despite Sergei being Grumpy, their conversation is the bridge between the Apollo-Soyuz meeting and Margo's invite to the jazz club. Notably, it's when they begin to call each other Margo and Sergei rather than Ms Madison and Mr Nikulov.

An extract for you:

“Here’s to the universality of the human race,” he muttered, hoping she’d cut to the point of this intrusion. Instead, to his surprise, she gave a small, breathy chuckle at his remark. “Indeed.” Silence filled the space between them again. Someone passed behind them. Ms Madison turned to see who it was; Sergei didn’t. As she turned back she inhaled heavily. Here it is then, he thought. “Mr Nikulov,” she began with aplomb. “The NASA leadership is very committed to making this docking happen.” She was probably lying through her teeth - he would have been to say the same. He indicated for her to continue, managing to suppress his sigh.
