Some of My Favorite Ways to Describe a Character Whoās Sick
pressing their forehead into something cool or comfortable (this could be an array of things. the table, the floor, someones leather jacket, their water bottle, the countertop)
warm to the touch, or heat radiating from them (could be noticed if someoneās gauging their temperature with their hands, hugging them, or just generally touching them)
leaning into peopleās touch, or just spontaneously leaning on them (like pressing into their hand when someoneās checking their temp, or just, like, literally walking up and laying their head on them from fatigue. bonus points if the character is usually feral and the other is scared to engageā¢ļø)
falling asleep all over the place (at the dinner table, on their homework, in the car, in the bathroom ā just being so exhausted from doing literally nothing)
being overly emotional (crying over things that donāt usually bother them, like their siblings arguing, or their homework, or literally just nothing)
stumbling/careening/staggering into things (the wall, furniture, other people. there is no coordination in feverish brains. running into chairs, hitting the door, falling over the couch, anything and everything)
slurring their words (could be from fatigue or pain. connecting words that shouldnāt be connected, murdering all of their conversations with the excessive use of āmmā and ānnā in place of words) (this is my favorite thing ever)
being overly touchy (basically like a sick kid ā just hold them, please. do that thing where you brush their hair back out of their face, or rub circles on their back, or snuggle them. they wonāt care. bonus points if this is also the feral character and they refuse to believe it afterwards)
being extremely resistant to touch (flinching away when they usually donāt so someone canāt feel the fever, not letting themselves be touched because theyāre so tired they just know theyāll be putty in their hands if they do)
growing aggressive or being extremely rude (itās a defense mechanism ā they feel vulnerable and are afraid of being manipulated or deceived while theyāre ill)
whimpering/whining/groaning (this was in my ācharacters in painā post but itās so good that iām putting it here too. this shite is gold, especially if itās just an involuntary reaction to their symptoms)
having nightmares caused by a fever and/or delirium (crying and murmuring in their sleep, or being awake but completely out of it and convinced theyāre somewhere else)
making themselves as small as possible (curling up into a ball everywhere they lay, hunching over slightly when standing, wrapping their arms around themselves)
TW for vomiting below cut !!
sleeping in the bathroom floor because they keep getting sick over and over (bonus if someone finds them all weak and pitiful. bonus bonus if they find them there in the morning only to learn theyāve been there all night)
using their hands/other body parts to clamp over their mouth so nothing can come out (like pulling their knees up to their chest and using that, or like, their arm, yāknow) (~maccreadysbaby who has emetophobia suddenly gets very awkward about this post~) (~yes i have a phobia of puke and still write this happening to my characters, shut up~) (~itās about the hurt/comfort okay~)
sympathy pukers (people who arenāt the sick ones but get nauseous/vomit when they see someone else throw up) (~aka me~) (~okay Iām done now~)
dry heaving (itās gross, but good for making your characters absolutely freaking miserable)
rolling/churning/spinning/cramping/ lurching and all those awesome words that describe what stomachs do when sick (i hate these words with a deep, fiery passion. but theyāre good for writing or whatever)

suguru geto, whose luscious hair is a product of constant care and intensive treatment, is jealous of how soft a certain satoru gojoās hair is the fluffiest, most pleasant thing his fingers have run through, despite the fact that his only haircare is 3in1 shampoo

i mean š i most definitely can come up with something if the people want it
i think, in your typical ābarista x florist au,ā or in a world where, satoru gojo and suguru geto get to peacefully retire in their late 30s after nourishing a new generation of sorcerers and start a joint library/bookshop/cafe/flower shop, satoru would not be the one running the cafe.
given his heightened senses, a cafe during rush hour would absolutely overwhelm him. plus, part of the job is to recalibrate the espresso machine every morning; which involves tasting very bitter coffee multiple times, and we all know how much of a sweet tooth he has.
the flower shop, though? he loves it there. he read once that plants listen when you talk and ran with it. every morning, he practically skips into the shop to talk to his plants. heād grab the watering can and say hello to each individual orchid. heād prune the browning leaves of a sunflower while humming to it. as he watches his personal cactus get its share of bottom watering, heād go on a tangent about how hot suguru is when heās focused.
who could blame him? the concentrated on suguruās face when he prepares orders creates 50% of their sales, after all. (the coffees and cakes are good too. just, people buy more when a pretty face is behind the counter.)
suguru didnāt think heād enjoy steaming milk and brewing coffee before, but after a week of testing it out and discovering his natural talent for latte art, there was nothing else heād rather do. the customers, the inventory checking, the ingredient prepātheyāre all fine. where he finds peace and joy, however, is when he gets to put ingredients together to create a beverage.
how a slightly modified ratios can create an entirely different flavor profile. which temperature is correct for brewing each type of coffee and tea. how syrups and essences of the same flavor can actually give contrasting effects to the drink. how liquids swirl and create a gradient of color in a glass.
the amount of detail that needs to be put into one cup fascinates him, but it doesnāt stop him from creating and pushing limits. he knows thereās the āproperā way of preparing a macchiato, but that doesnāt mean he wonāt try and make a new variant from a flower in their shop. well, he does it to test boundaries, sure, but also to see satoruās eyes sparkle whenever he succeeds in creating a new recipe.
sometimes new customers gather enough courage to not just place orders, but also ask for their baristaās or floristās number. regulars can only sigh and shake their head in pity, knowing their efforts are for naught. theyāve caught the owners spoon feeding each other strawberry shortcake on a table decorated with fresh osmanthus flowers way too many times to still hope for a chance.
(theyāve caught them giggling and kissing behind a book rack a couple times too, but thatās for the newcomers to discover themselves.)

What to do when you canāt write:
All writers have those days when the words just Donāt. Flow. Where, no matter how hard we try, our pens scratch scribbles on our paper instead of letters.Ā Itās not a fun place to be.Ā The one thing you canāt do is let those days turn themselves into weeks and months.Ā
Iāve been there often enough myself to develop a number of ways to shake myself out of a writing funk and Iād like to offer them to you. Try one. Try them all. Find out what works for you and get to writing again.Ā
Start with a small goal and let it grow. Tell yourself you just want to write one sentence. Then one paragraph. You put the frog in lukewarm water, and then turn the burner on.Ā
Try using a progress tracking chart, like this one by ArtsyAndreaM on Deviant Art.
Similarly, buy a pack of stickers and place one on your calendar/planner/diary for every 500 words you write that day.
Tell a friend your writing goal and have them hold you accountable to it. If theyāre interested in what youāre writing you can even send them your work at the end of each day/week.Ā
Ā Listen to inspiring speeches by authors you like, like one of these by Neil Gaiman.Ā
Give yourself permission to write something terrible. Something terrible is something, at least.
Print out some inspiring essays and quotes and post them on the wall above your desk. NaNoWriMo pep talks can be especially great.Ā
Write a scene in your head. It doesnāt count if itās in your head, so you donāt have to worry about it being terrible. If it isnāt terrible, put it on paper.Ā
Go to a coffee shop or library full of other people working. It just might be enough to guilt you into working too.Ā
Give yourself 10 minutes on Write or Die, where there are consequences for stopping even for a few seconds.Ā
Use Writerās Block and block yourself from everything on your computer except a blank page for a number of minutes or words. Ā
Write in a journal. Write a letter. Anything to get any words out of your head.Ā
Reread one of your favorite books. Remind yourself why you want to write in the first place.Ā
Be honest about when youāre procrastinating, like when youāre writing blog posts or tidying up your desk, and when youāre actually doing something that will help you write.Ā

Hi! Hereās a short info post about me to avoid any confusionā but also just for me to introduce myself.
Again, hello! My nameās Theia; I write as a hobby and escapade, and I dump the results of my brainrot sessions here. Iām in a fair amount of fandoms, but Iād say Iām currently most active in Honkai Star Rail, Jujutsu Kaisen, My Adventures With Superman, Abbott Elementary, and Good Omens. I have to add that I love anything that involves romance/shoujo/josei anime and manga (Kamisama Kiss, Yubisaki to Renren, Kimi ni Todoke, Sailor Moon, Given, etc).
I also listen to a looootttt of music; I canāt live without it. My main listens these days are Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Mitski, Newjeans, Le Sserafim, Maisie Peters, and Laufey. Pretty sure I also listen to male artistsā¦ but none are coming to mind right now, sorry š
Here are some links where you can find me and my stuff, if youāre interested in that š„ø
