I don’t always, or often, seem to have time to make dinner. It’s so easy to pick up something after work, but I feel much better when I eat something I’ve cooked, so this is my compromise… I make my lunch and dinner at the same time, in one batch.

Third time’s the charm?

Not in this case.

It was the fourth time

that I finally cooked the beans

enough to enjoy 😋

Was distracted, and mixed up the cooking spices 😟. What was meant for the vegetables went to the rice and beans. The rice and bean seasoning went to the vegetables. Tasted it separately 😋, and then mixed it all together before eating any more.

Today’s Lunch ~

(No filter - just two different cameras)

AUGMENTING: basmati rice and yams 🍚 🍠

EXTRACTIVE: mung beans, brazil nuts and almonds 🫘 🌰

Ran out of extractive vegetables 🥦 , so I used chopped nuts instead. Would’ve been better to remove the skin first, but I left it on, this time.

What I’ve noticed cooking this way… It takes a loooong time to prepare a meal, and only 10-15 minutes, to eat it 🥄

🌰 Brazil nuts grow mainly in Brazil 🇧🇷 and Bolivia 🇧🇴

🌰 Almonds are mainly grown in California 🇺🇸

🍠 Yams grow on the continents of Asia and Africa

🍚 Rice may have originated in China 🇨🇳 Basmati rice is grown in India 🇮🇳, Pakistan 🇵🇰, Thailand 🇹🇭, Vietnam 🇻🇳, and Cambodia 🇰🇭. It’s too cold in Canada to grow rice - there are no naturally occurring rice paddies here.

Almost picked up a burger and carrot cake, on my way home from grocery shopping 🛒 , but managed to make it home to make lunch instead 😋

Note: While sweet potatoes are yellow, yams are not. Yams have purplish skin, and orange middles, similar to carrots in appearance 👀

What's the difference between rainbow carrots and regular carrots 🥕?

Flavour for one. Texture, density, and nutrients too.

While researching when, and how, to plant carrots in my area, I learned that the original early varieties were purple 💜. The orange carrots 🥕 that we see today are the result of selective breeding 😳

Almost every dish and drink

starts with ghee.

Having a cow would be too much effort for me, supporting a local dairy 🤔 is more feasible. Better still, the neighbouring dairy practices pasture rotation, on the flat grasslands of my backyard.

Supporting dairy farms that use, and reuse ♻️ glass milk bottles feels 👍🏼

1 litre per person,

per week,

is enough 🐄 🥛 ☝🏼

When is a cow, not a cow?

When it’s a goose… A golden goose. Milk is its golden egg 🥚

Breakfast ~

Cinnamon buckwheat pancakes 🥞 😋

Made these, again!!

They’re so good.

I’ve probably made these five times now, but today was the first time they actually looked like pancakes instead of a pile of crumbs … yummy crumbs.

The original recipe calls for a mix of flours, and so I added gluten-free rolled oats to the buckwheat flour, and it helped.

Two, perfectly, imperfect savoury pancakes 🥞
