It’s pretty clear most of the time when Tomura is going to have a meltdown. Everyone who’s worked or lived with him knows the signs. It’s pacing, scratching more than usual, asking the same question repeatedly, and then sitting very still. It’s an eerie thing for Tomura, who’s almost always fidgeting in some capacity, to sit very still.

When Tomura gets upset, he isolates himself. You’ve learned he needs time to cool off when he feels like he’s really messed something up. This becomes a bit more difficult when he’s in public and can’t run away.

His room is a safe space for him, and it’s his go-to place to hide when he’s really not feeling well.

He doesn’t cry often, but when he does, it’s a lot. Talking about it with a professional has helped him, but he’s been through so much.

Sometimes he’ll just yell. Not at you or anything in specific. It just takes the pressure off to make a lot of noise when he’s under a lot of stress.

There have been a few times he’s come to you because he’s accidentally broken or destroyed something. Those were the worst times. He feels like a monster for not being able to control himself and being so destructive.

He scratches himself to soothe, so it picks up much stronger when he’s not doing well.

Tomura has a lot of anxiety surrounding food. If something he was looking forward to falls through or doesn’t turn out the way he wanted it to, he’ll remove himself from the situation immediately and make sure he isn’t hungry by eating some of the food he stashes in his room.

He’s very soothed by animals, though he keeps his distance from them most of the time. If an animal comes to him asking for affection, he loves to give it to them. You’ve brought up the idea of him getting a dedicated service dog and he’s been mulling it over.

After meltdown, when he’s cooled off, he’s very accepting of your self-care recommendations. You’ll help him clean up his scratch marks and help him ground himself and get more comfortable. He especially likes warm baths and when you offer to help him trim his nails.

Tomura has so much tension stored in his whole body. His back is like a carapace of knots and stress. He really doesn’t like being touched, so a massage is out of the question.

He does let you remind him to unclench his jaw or fix his posture. He tends to curl in on himself when left to his own devices.

The best contact for him is when you’re both doing your own thing and casually touching. Like him leaning against you or pressing your legs together when you sit next to each other.

He gets over stimulated very quickly.

He loves compression clothing but hates the way that they make him look, so he layers clothing.

His favorite hoodies are those that he doesn’t wash very often. He doesn’t like the way that the texture changes from the washing process.

Tomura gets cold very easily, but he prefers being too cold to being too hot.

When he overheats, it feels like his skin is prickly, which makes his scratching worse.

His scratching is one of many BFRBs that he uses to soothe himself.

Tomura doesn’t like holding hands, for a variety of reasons, but even with gloves, he just finds the experience to be sweaty and uncomfortable for him.

He video games are a special interest of his! He loves fast-paced rogue-like and strategy games.

He’s usually rocking himself in some capacity or otherwise fidgeting.

He repeats greetings and clicks to stim as well.

Tomura really likes feeling weighed down. It helps keep him grounded. He has a dark blue weighted blanket that he loves.

He doesn’t like the feeling of his fingers touching, so he’s actually okay with wearing gloves.

Tomura’s Love

Tomura thinks that the idea of love languages and classifying people based on them is weird. It’s much easier for him to work with if you don’t use a bunch of labels and instead explain things in clear language for him.

He doesn’t pick up on subtle hints at wanting affection. The whole idea of intimacy is very scary for him but he not only trusts you, but also that you will say when you need something.

Keeping things at a pace and level of intensity that he likes takes a bit of accommodating, but you’re more than willing to give him time and space when he needs it.

He loves listening to you talk. He also asks you questions about the things you’ve been reading because he knows how good it feels when someone pays attention to something you care a lot about.

Tomura will sometimes bring you things and ask you to read them to him because he’s very soothed by the sound of your voice. It’s something he learned he liked while checking out guided meditation type things. His favorite thing to have you read is fanfiction based off of his favorite video games.

He also loves info-dumping. He’s learned to ask before he starts doing it most of the time, but you’ll listen either way. He’s always going down YouTube rabbit holes and he wants to tell you about the things that he’s learned.

His special interest range wildly, from PC building to cryptozoology, horror literature and photography, but video game lore has always and will always be a mainstay. He loves going through interwoven timelines with you. It’s a lot to keep straight, but if you don’t get it all the first time, he’s happy to go through it again.

He’ll give you the floor to talk about the things that really interest you. It’s really nice just to talk and Tomura sits at attention, really listening to what you say.

Tomura’s favorite way to spend time with you is the two of you sitting together but doing your own things. He likes to be around you while you watch TV or YouTube because he can wear his headphones and play on one of his many handheld gaming consoles. Sometimes when he’s reading, he’ll laugh and get your attention to have you read a snippet of fanfiction he finds interesting or funny.

He struggles with big transitions and coming out of his head when he’s been focused for a long time, but you learn to give him a bit of time to adjust between activities.

He really isn’t a fan of being touched, but very occasionally, he’ll ask to hug you to help ground him. This picks up in frequency if he’s having bad days or a lot of stuff is going on at once.

He’ll also ask if you need a hug when you seem stressed out. It was a lot for him to ask that in the beginning, but it’s getting easier and easier for him to do.

He loves to send you things that made him think of you. Text chains between the two of you are sprinkled with pictures and links to things he thought you’d like. It’s fan art of your favorite media, songs he’d thought you’d like, or little things that reference the inside jokes you have together.

Cooking with Tomura

• Tomura has never had enough experience with cooking to feel like he’s good at it.

• If it’s not at least close to one of his samefoods, he’s very very hesitant to try new things.

• You’ve been working with him to slowly get more and more vegetables into his diet, which he actually happy for. He’s been feeling a lot better, even with the baby steps he’s been making.

• Early examples of him trying to cook for you usually end up with the two of you ordering a pizza after putting out the fires and/or opening the windows to air out the smoke.

• He really likes to watch you cook though. Maybe it’s just an excuse to spend time with you, but you don’t mind either way.

• He’s very sensitive to smells, but loves when you use things like garlic, onions, and scallions.

• He loves to stand by the pans while things simmer, just watching things slowly cook and stirring if you ask him to. He does the same thing with the oven if you bake or roast something.

• He was nervous at first when you asked him to help you chop vegetables. He said he didn’t know how to hold things to avoid cutting his fingers, so you looked up some videos together on how to properly cut different vegetables.

• Once he got used to it, he now excitedly asks to chop and peel things when you’ve got your hands full with multitasking. He really likes how useful it makes him feel.

• The only thing he won’t cut up for you is peppers, just because he’s nervous about getting stuff in his eyes. He’ll even do onions once you show him how to cut them to avoid letting out the fumes that cause watery eyes.

• Tomura likes to put on music in the background if he’s not wearing headphones. Just to give himself something to listen to.

• Things are rarely ever fancy enough to warrant properly setting the table, but he likes setting things out.

• Tomura’s favorite foods usually have aspects of sweetness and/or crunch to them. One of his all time favorite meals is a tomato basil soup with a grilled cheese.

• He does like some spice, but it usually to be contained in something so that it doesn’t get all over his cracked lips.

• Tomura does tend to savor his food. One of the side effects of the small period of time he spent without a home are that he doesn’t take things like food for granted.

• It takes him a while to warm up to food that’s really outside his comfort zone. He usually has to see you make it a few times before he’s willing to try a bit of it.
