Zuko absolutely hated the cold. Overnight the temperature must have dropped down to the negatives. He couldn’t feel the tips of his toes and there was a thin sheen of frost at the top of his head. Which made the tea seem more like a necessity than anything else.

A hack of a scoff passed his tired lips. He was exhausted beyond reason, and because of it he had overslept. So maybe he was putting his blame on Katara because she was an easy target and-- oh, she was nearby! 

If there was one thing he hated more was being late for another stupid meeting where time was at time-still, instead of things progressing quicker like he had hoped.

❝Why don’t you keep up,❞ he mustered with a grunt through heavy pants. This argument was illogical. He was making a fool of himself-- not that he was ever going to admit it.

It was obviously several hours past midnight. While everyone was asleep, or so he believed, Zuko was wide awake in his study. Flame lit candles deepened the shadows under his eyes from his lack of sleep; which was something his wife often made comments about throughout the years.

He respected her concern, but was deeply immersed in a bulk of scrolls. Reading through long lists of imports and exports. There were so many thing and numbers to be overlooked. 

But there was something that interrupted his current train of thought--light footsteps that could have easily been drowned out if it hadn’t been so quiet, and he knew exactly who’s they belonged to. But Zuko feigned ignorance, and pretended not to be aware of his daughter’s presence.
