Imo Jason has four types of situations he saves funny lines for:

Casual ribbing (basically any scene where he’s in a relatively low-stress environment)

Lightening the mood for morale’s sake (using humour to calm Joey mid-raid, being silly when Nick was trying to find him underground and close to panicking)

Trying to connect with new people intentionally or not (welcoming Eric and Clarice to Camp Slayer, making idle conversation with Salim)

WE ARE PROBABLY ABOUT TO DIE WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT BRAIN-TO-MOUTH FILTERS (the above scene)

Sometimes Jason really seems smart and collected and one who knows what's he doing.

Seb accidentally incubating the egg by setting it close to one of his warm computers, and later carelessly throwing one of his hoodies over it without realizing (hey, it's a Void Chicken--they probably don't need as much heat to develop, right?). The egg hatches, probably giving him a heart attack in the process, and now there is a baby demon-chicken following him everywhere because it thinks he's its mother and he doesn't have the heart to get rid of it.
