Hello again! We’re back with an update on Communities, a big idea we had last year that we’ve been working on steadily since then. We’re abnormally jazzed to announce that we’re beginning a “closed beta” phase of this new feature, which means many of you will get to play with it soon!
We want to build this whole thing together, with as much input from all of you as possible. We’ve read and re-read the feedback from our previous post, and we’ve been surveying and interviewing people about this idea for a few months now. But it’s time to open this up even more for hands-on testing.
We’ve already begun reaching out to most of you who interacted with our previous post, as promised, with a survey asking whether you’d be interested in helping (check your email!). Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be using the results of that survey to narrow down who we’d like to help test Communities in these initial batches.
The process is looking a bit like this:
If you received a Communities survey email to your registered Tumblr email address, fill it out! If you’re interested in helping us in this beta test period, that’s your way of potentially getting early access. If you did not receive an email with the Communities survey, don’t fret! Communities will be rolling out to more people as we expand our testing.
We’ll go through the results and choose a diverse range of community ideas to gather a wide array of feedback.
Selected testers will receive a second survey with more detailed questions about their proposed community. Very practical stuff, like the name, title, and description, whether it should be public or private, the About page contents, its own community guidelines, and more.
We will create the new Tumblr community on your behalf using the information supplied. We’re building the tools that will let people create and edit communities themselves, so eventually you’ll be able to change them without needing our help. But for now, we’re creating and editing them for you, as needed.
After we’ve created the community, you’ll be made its first admin. Everything from here on out is up to you – Tumblr staff won’t be in your community (unless you invite us, of course). You’ll be able to invite anyone on Tumblr to your community. However, your community will have a population cap to start, limiting how many people can be in it and invited, as a way of keeping this beta test somewhat contained and manageable for us. We’ll be able to raise that population cap for communities that are growing and if we want to test further in that direction.
And throughout, we’ll be asking for feedback, both in some special communities for everyone in the closed beta, and via more surveys and the Support tickets we receive.
This closed beta version of Communities is far from finished, and that’s part of the reason we want to start opening it up to more of you for feedback. There are a lot of rough edges and known issues, but we think it’s far enough along that it’s usable enough for testing. We need feedback in order to feel like we’re building the right thing.
The very first public community is called “Communities Feedback” for this reason! We want everyone helping us test out communities to tell us about it, so people in this closed beta will be in there by default. We want to use that space to be more public and real-time about new pieces we’re building, bugs we’re fixing, things we know are broken, and answers to common questions. There is an additional, private community for community admins, to help shape how administrating and moderating these spaces will work. And if you don’t want to use those spaces, you can always use the “Feedback” category in our Support form.
Stay tuned for more, and keep an eye on that Communities Feedback space if you’d like to see how things are changing over time.
Dreamwidth accounts are now completely open and free, instead of requiring invite codes!
Why Dreamwidth is good:
- You have FOUR different privacy levels to choose from with EVERY post: Public, Private, My Access List Only, A Specific Special Access List Only. You can make as many special access lists as you want. You can 'f-lock' your whole journal if you want. Privacy is good!
- All comments stay on your OP, there is no reblogging. No more posts suddenly getting out of hand and running away from you, it all stays central on the OP, and replies are nested into threads! It's like having a little mini message board on every post!
- Tiered privacy--you can subscribe to someone, and you can also grant them access. Separately. This means you can read someone's journal without having to let them read posts you have locked.
- Put your interests in a linked list, if they light up as a link you can click and suddenly see everyone--and every community--that has that interest listed! Make friends! Join communities (comms, as we call them)!
- Communities! Which can also be locked to members only! Communities also have moderators (and rules the moderators may or may not have!), which makes them safer.
- Lots of customisation options for how your journal looks. Back in the day we used to match journal themes with our bffs or lovers!
- Multiple icons! We used to use this feature to have different icons to indicate moods/tones. Fun! Let's bring that back. You can have 15 with a free account, and more with a paid account.
- 100x100 icons! So big! Gifs allowed! Like on AO3!
- MOOD ICONS. This is an extra icon on your posts that has a mood attached. People with paid accounts have custom themes! Mine is Great Mouse Detective.
- Paid accounts are subscriptions but if they lapse you just go back down to a free account, you don't get your account's functionality taken away! And likewise, the extra icons and custom mood theme are still there; all that changes is if you change your mood theme you can't go back to the custom one until you get a paid account again. Paid accounts just give you extra customisation for how your journal looks, and help support the site, because...
- THERE ARE NO ADS. THERE IS NO ALGORITHM. THERE ARE NO SUGGESTED POSTS. NOTHING IS SPYING ON YOU.

The archive is still there too, and all those fans who created works in the past still deserve some attention too, so please check out the archive if you haven't in a while and if you're also missing Tsuritama!!
Also, if you're interested,
please check out my YukiHaru A.M.V \o/
(Made a few years back for YukiHarus shared birthdays specifically!)
{All I did was reblog some old gifs I missed to keep blog active,
but I'm glad if people still appreciate this blog existing!!!}
(I may also have another A.M.V. or two planned for future years, if I can finish them in decent time!)
ok i just got this thought out of nowhere but blog divers (people who scroll through a blog and reblog things that were posted YEARS AGO) are actually a super important part of the tumblr ecosystem
With people going inactive and deactivating, a lot of classic tumblr posts and also missed gems get lost because those connections get broken. Even on my own blog I forget about posts I made until I see someone in my activity reblog one of them- which then inspires me to reblog it myself because it was a good post and I want my new followers to see
do not feel bad about diving through someone's blog and reblogging shit from years ago, it keeps dashboards alive
(and if anyone has a problem with that, they can just block you or they can delete the root post ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, two things that have absolutely no effect on the grand scheme of our lives)
I don't know how tumblr works, can I send you a yukixharu doodle I just had to get out of my system?
@canary-miner
This blog is pretty inactive by now, and I have my Submit box on this blog turned off for the time being, but I'm sure other fans would love to see new works posted to the tags that include them;
like #YukiHaru, #Yuki x Haru, #Yuki Sanada, etc.!
(And, despite my Submit box being closed it makes me happy to know others enjoyed this blog for them.)

My Commentary:
I know this is my Yuki & Haru focused blog,
but this scene is extremely important to me too,
especially regarding Yuki’s character development in his relationships.
I recently rewatched and Tsuritama made me really emotional again.

Happy birthday to Yuki [Mar. 31st] + Haru [Apr. 1st]!!!
Tsuritama first aired Apr. 13, 2k12; it’s almost been a full 10 years!!
(Can you believe it?!?) [No, I can’t]
{@ Atsuya Uki and Tsuritama Team, we’re all still waiting for a sequel!!!}
I wasn’t originally planning to make this, but,
I felt like it had been a long time since I tried to do something for them,
{I’m not an artist, have trouble writing fic etc…}
[Though I have also been trying to improve my A.M.V. editing ability]
So even though this is imperfect, I didn’t get to fit in all scenes I wanted,
etc., (my editor literally won’t let me add in anymore w/out crashing lol)
Hopefully this is passable as my tribute to this series I love dearly!
Haru especially has always been one of my favs, (but also Yuki!)
So they’re the main focus of this A.M.V.,
I did try to fit some of the ensemble (especially Akira) in too though!
Some clips (Ep06…) I meant to trim down more but again, editor
literally is not letting me but in the end the longer clips fit, so I kept them!
Also, if you haven’t seen yet, there’s a {from our past year of 2020}
post-series short story taking place when Yuki & Haru are 19!
I really recommend it if you get a chance, it has nice post-series info!
Enjoy! Please continue to support this series!!
(Hopefully someday, we’ll get that sequel!!!)
{This A.M.V. has plot spoilers until Ep12 finale}
(But not sure who would understand these contexts without subs, lol)
