I’m not much of an artist but in the spirit of Mermay, I was thinking about a Mermaid Merman/Siren AU!
Click on pics for WAY better quality dammit tumblr
HCs below from a fic I’ll probably never finish:
-
The Master:
-‘Born’ as a merperson where every 100 years a new generation of merfolk appear from the seafoam with the abilities of an 8y-o
-His tail has gorgeous, shiny, purple scales
-His name was something unpronounceable by human tongues but translated to Master of the 7 Seas
-When he went to the surface would, people referred to him as 'sir’ or 'Master’ and so he just adapted the honorific as his name
-Humans and merfolk have a weird rivalry where merfolk look down on humans for their short and messy lives, while humans are scared of merfolk for their abilities.
-This is all even though merfolk, humans, and sirens are all 'from the same stock’ so to speak
-So when the Master realizes he can 'shift’ between human and merfolk form- which is a rarity no one else has- the merfolk high council contemplate executing or exiling him
-He tried to maintain his dignity by explaining he can be useful and walk among the humans to gain things for the merfolk
-The high council agree, but everyone still sees the Master as an abomination and he quickly becomes an outcast
-One day, the Master trusts a kindhearted human with his secret, scared and looking for some kind of acceptance
-The word quickly spreads among the humans that he’s a 'beast’ and they try to kill him
-The Master snaps and decides to do what he has to do. He kills both the humans in the village who know about his shifting ability and his home town of merfolk- all rather brutally I might add
-The Master then leaves the bloodbath, both people gone and his secret safe, and he finds a new island far away to go live out his days in safety and isolation
-
The Doctor:
-Was born a siren; beautiful voice, huge wings, crazy backwards-joined bird legs. You get it.
-She grew up learning how to crash human ships against the reefs
-Over time, she begins to get a little too self aware. She realizes maybe all this pointless killing is wrong and that maybe human lives have value. Not to mention these ships mean that there’s a huge world out there that she’s never seen.
-When she realizes she can also shift into a human form- a very rare gift- she takes the opportunity to leave home and go see the world
-She becomes an adventurer and her natural ability to fix things and problems earns her the nickname 'The Doctor’ (even though she’s not actually a medical professional by any means)
-She feels the need to give back out of guilt from all the human lives she and her people have taken in ignorance over the years.
-She gains lots of human friends but always keeps moving.
-She says it’s because she liked adventure and exploring the world, and that’s true, but it’s also because sirens can live for thousands of years and she knows if she stays too long in any one place, the people she loves will leave her.
-
The story:
-One day, while the Doctor is out adventuring uncharted waters, her ship sinks in a storm on the distant horizon.
-Meanwhile, the Master and local loner who lives on a nearby island, sees her ship in the storm, and takes the opportunity to swim up to it and steal supplies he can sell to the people who live on the other side of his island
-However while he’s there robbing them during the storm, the Doctor watches him take her maps and jumps into the water after him.
-The Master tries not to care that the humans’ ship will sink and the crew will drown and tries to leave but the Doctor startles him and he drops the maps.
-While trying to save her work, the Doctor nearly drowns and smiles at the Master in the face of death.
-The Master is surprised and intrigued by her fearlessness, so against his better judgement, he decides to save her.
-And it’s all downhill from there.

Ceasefire
(Read on Ao3 here)
Inspired by: this ask
Word Count: ~1.8k
Summary: Thirteen and Dhawan!Master both really need a hug.
(Fluff piece, hugs, no warnings apply)
Occasions on which the Doctor and the Master pause from their perpetual battles is rare. Over the years, it’s gotten less and less common. Back when they were young, all of this- all the battles over Earth, all the threats, all the traps- were much more playful, and so was much easier to pause so that the two of them might grab a bite together and partake in each other’s familiar company. However, over time, each slash at each other began to cut deeper and deeper in some failing attempt to ‘win’ a game that could never be won.
They both loved their fights, they both needed the challenge- but at times, it could become too much. Even for a Time Lord. Or… maybe not a Time Lord, now that they both knew there never really was such a thing.
Point was, their limits had finally been reached. The threshold for pain inflicted upon each other had finally been hit and they both needed time to recuperate before any scheme and/or heroics could resume.
The Master would say it was the Doctor who yielded first.
The Doctor would say it was the Master who suggested it.
Either way they looked at it, a few text messages back and forth from numbers that used to belong to friends later and the Doctor and the Master were staring each other down from opposite sides of the open field.
They had chosen a spot in the middle of nowhere to partake in their agreed upon ceasefire. A place that was hidden by the safety of tall trees and knee-high wildgrass that hid their mutual interest in a way that suggested being nice to each other was the greatest possible sin.
“We agree that this will never be spoken of again? As per our prior arrangement?” the Master questioned skeptically, with a low flat tone and his fists clamped shut.
“Completely. No one will ever know. We keep our mouths shut until long after our souls leave our bodies to rot,” the Doctor agreed firmly.
The Master gave a nod to confirm this.
They stood there for a moment more, staring each other down. It was an old concept, but new in practice.
“Are… you okay?” the Doctor asked as the Master shifted from foot to foot, visibly uncomfortable.
The Master shook his head sharply and ignored the way the tips of his ears began to burn red.
“You don’t get to ask me that. Not after everything you’ve done to me. Everything you’ve put me through,” the Master growled through gritted teeth. “I doubt you’ve ever stopped running long enough to consider the extent of it.”
The Master’s words didn’t linger for long before the Doctor cut through the stillness.
“Me?” the Doctor asked sharply. “What about you! You’ve killed people. A few years’ penance on Earth is the very least you deserve.”
“A few years?!” the Master chuckled in the manic, agonizing way he laughed.
He shook his head and caught himself before he could lose his patience.
“Don’t push me,” he threatened through gritted teeth.
The Doctor took a deep breath of her own.
“Right. That’s not why we’re here,” she reiterated.
The Master gave a nod and took a breath of his own.
“Honestly… I don’t want to talk about it either,” the Doctor confessed.
She rubbed her arm and stared off at the ground.
The Master’s eyes stayed locked on the dirt as well.
After a moment- a long and terrifying moment, the Doctor took a step forward.
The Master instinctively lifted his fists to defend himself at the sign of movement. After a brief second, he shamefully lowered them and attempted to play it off as if it was nothing.
The Doctor let out a sigh, reached out, and… hugged him.
Her arms reached around him, over the Master’s own arms where they remained at his sides, and held him.
“I’m… glad you’re still alive…” the Doctor admitted softly.

Hi, do you know any fanfics where everyone’s human and the Doctors are a family/found family? Thanks!
The first one that comes to mind is @ Valc0 ‘s roommate au! They’ve made some really cool art for it and I THINK there’s a fic somewhere.
Basically all the (NewWho) Doctors are roommates (9 is the landlord) and live across the hall from their respective Masters.
This post: https://valc0.tumblr.com/post/613504078569504768/anonymous-asked-i-just-had-the-most-ridiculous comes to mind (hopefully the link works) but you can just go to @ valc0 ‘s page and search ‘roommate au’ to find more information on it.
I hope this helps! I’ll let you know if I think of any others :)

And They Were Quarantine Mates
An old disease has resurfaced on Earth- one which most humans recover from but is permanently lethal to Time Lords.
Because of this, the Doctor stays on Earth to make sure her humans make it through okay.
And because of the Doctor, the Master- against his better judgement- also chooses to stay.
Reluctant to leave the safety of the Doctor's Tardis, the Doctor and the Master find plenty of ways to pass the time but it can be difficult to enjoy each other's company with so many things left unsaid.
Good thing they have plenty of time in isolation to work it out.

Summary: After learning about the final loss of Gallifrey, the Doctor takes some time to grieve and finds herself with surprisingly mixed feelings about the whole ordeal.
To her surprise, a knock at her Tardis door soon reveals the Master not only alive, but in uncontrollable mental agony as he reveals that the Doctor's suffering has been amplifying his own emotions via their telepathic bond.
Note: (After so many kind and positive comments on this fic, I finally gained the confidence to start posting more! A huge thank you to so many people it means so, so much to me!)

Second Chances
When Graham finds a teleportation cube offering an all-expenses-paid vacation, he, Ryan, and Yaz take up the offer and give the seemingly-distant Doctor some time to herself.
After the events of Skyfall 1&2, the trust between the trio and a certain timelord is shaken. However, when their vacation quickly becomes a nightmare, it's up to the Doctor to bring about peace on an upsettingly familiar planet.

All’s Fair In Love And War

I Wouldn’t Wish It On My Best Enemy
"Just deserts appeared to finally be served for the Doctor. All her running had come to an end, all the lives she's taken or caused had finally been assigned a numerical value, and all the morals she had once believed in seemed to crumble to dust right before her eyes.
A life sentence.
She had JUST BEEN TOLD she would never die, and the first thing the universe does is give her a life sentence.
What kind of cruel joke is that?"
Basically: The Doctor reflects on herself while in prison, the Master rescues the Doctor and actually helps her, and idk read the tags
Word Count: 4,629

Brand New Reality
In an alternate timeline: The Master is killed in the Time War but the Doctor finds a way to salvage his oldest friend's mind by binding it to his Tardis and building him an android vessel as a way to interact with the physical world.
The Doctor also manages to save the Time Lords from their war- but he is still a renegade in their eyes. As punishment, the High Council uses the Doctor- and by extension the Master- as their personal diplomats/field agents.
The Master isn't too happy about being trapped on the Doctor's Tardis, the Doctor is fed up with being the equivalent of a dog on a leash to the Time Lords, so in a moment of anger and also pure luck- they break out from their world and end up on a parallel one with a very different version of their universe and very different versions of themselves.

The Imposter(s) Among Us
The Doctor has been searching the universe for the Master, but it's only when she takes a break to help a damaged space vessel that she runs directly into him!
The Doctor has a hundred and one things to ask him, but there's no time for any of that now. The ship is barely functional and if the mysterious murderer doesn't get to the Doctor first, then the trigger-happy crewmates might throw her out the airlock before the killer gets a chance.
Word Count: 12,655
-
My Dear, Doctor…
The Doctor investigates an anomaly to find that her previous self has stood up their oldest friend for the umpteenth time.
Confused as to why the Doctor can't recall ever receiving Missy's invitation in the first place, the Doctor goes searching for answers and ends up finding far more letters than just one…

Series:
And They Were Happy Au Parts 1-4:
Part 1: Dinner and a Show
All his lives, the Master had always believed that he and the Doctor could hold on for about the same amount of time. He always imagined that when they reached their last lives, they would both give all this up and spend their retirement years bickering and raising bees or whatever. The Master didn't particularly like bees, but he had always imagined that the Doctor did and as long as they were together, that was enough to satisfy him.
What he had discovered in the Matrix had proved his ideal endgame impossible.
The revelation that the Doctor was The Timeless Child meant that the Doctor would always live on. They would always evolve and survive no matter what happened. The Doctor would always race to people in need; and now, they would never have any reason to stop.
(AU where the reason the Master wanted the Doctor to kill them both in The Timeless Child is bc he's on his last life)
Word Count: 5,120
-
Part 2: Dinner and a Show One-Offs
"The Doctor did her best to space out her visits with O. For every couple adventures she had with her 'fam', she would stop by his home once or so. Sometimes she let months slip by, because she knew that the longer she waited, the less of O's limited time she used up.
She felt guilty to calculate it, but if O was already in his mid-thirties and he lived a full human life...
Suffice it to say, she wanted it to last for as long as possible. She had never had a situation as stable nor as safe as she now had with O. After everything they had both been through to get to this point, she refused to jeopardize a single moment.
For all the pain the Master had caused her, O was well worth the wait."
(By popular demand, a continuation of 'Dinner and a Show')
Word Count: 10,926
-
Part 3: Unjustifiable
O- having no recollection of his actions as 'The Master'- returns to being Earth's Horizon Watcher.
O is proud of his work and he cherishes the Doctor's frequent visits, but it's becoming increasingly apparent that she's been keeping more secrets about his past than he had theorized.
To make matters worse, the arrival of an advanced species of aliens on his doorstep brings with it a whole new plethora of problems. Something terrifying resurfaces when O hears they're searching for a Tardis and things go terribly wrong.
Word Count: 23,870
-
Part 4: Found Family

Word Count: 3,663 (Will possibly be updated at a later date, but complete for now)

All Alone In The Dark

So imagine their surprise when they run into each other at a party in the 1920's.
Word Count: 6,943

Sick Day
The Master has everything set up for his latest evil scheme but when he tracks down the Doctor, he realizes his best enemy is in no condition to fight. So the Master does what any good nemesis does and takes care of him.

Word Count: 2,807

Prompt: "Right now, I don't know if I want to kiss you or shove you off a bridge!" "Can I pick?"
The Master’s Tardis had traced the call seven minutes in advance to this exact time and location. He pushed open his Tardis door to find himself in front of some no name bar with graffiti scrawled on the side, situated in front of an empty ravine. He was on Earth, and there was probably a similarly ramshackled city around him, but he didn’t so much as spare it a glance.
The Master’s steps were determined, his jaw clenched, and his hands shaking despite his signature device in hand.
He had been on the other side of the universe, licking his wounds like any old villain would when disappointed by their latest nemesis showdown. It all made his blood boil to have caved so soon. To come back and HELP the Doctor.
The Doctor still had O’s number and her call was scheduled to be made in exactly seven minutes. A hysterical, agonizing call that begged the Master to intervene. He wasn’t sure what was worse, hearing the Doctor in so much despair, or the disappointment that hearing her in such agony somehow didn’t lessen his own.
Word Count: 2,410
-
The Beginning and The End
Prompt: First Doctor, Dhawan!Master, Gallifrey, and the dialogue: "I know my words mean close to nothing for you. But I do, in fact, love you very much."

Word Count: 4,499

Link to my collection of spyvember fics! I’ll probably update even after this months ends because there are a few more fics I wrote that I haven’t posted yet :)
Ch 1 - I Thought I’d Lost You - Combination: Day 25 (I thought I'd lost you ) + Day 22 (Cuddles on a rainy day) Summary: The Master saves the Doctor's life but he doesn't know how to be the Doctor's friend after everything he's done so he continues to play the role of 'sweet human O'. Angst+Fluff+Happy Ending
Ch 2 - Renegade Runners - Day 24: Cops and Robbers Summary: Time Lords sense the universe in a deeply intricate and powerful way- which makes for a very fun and completely irresponsible twist to an old children's game. Fluff
Ch 3 - Partners - Day 26: Slow Dance Summary: The Doctor made a minor miscalculation and now her fam are in trouble. She needs a plan- but in the meantime, what's the harm in a slow dance with her best enemy? And why is he there anyway? very mild angst+fluff+plot
Ch 4 - Taller Than You - Day 27: Height Differences Summary: The Doctor and the Master are stuck in the rare situation where they have to work together. They aren't too good at that, but they are good at fighting- so they decide to bicker over the smallest things to pass the time instead. fluff+banter+gentle roughhousing
Ch 5 - This One's For You - Day 28: Piano Summary: There's a certain restaurant the Master likes to visit when he wants to work through his feeling about the Doctor without anyone finding out about him. After yet another failed confrontation with the Doctor, he returns to the restaurant once more and plays a song with her in mind. Angst+Fluff+Hugs

I forgot to post on Tumblr that I’ve been doing a little quarentine/isolation au with 13 and Dh!Master !
I try to update about once a week and it’s easy to read from the beginning or skip to the chapters you prefer. There’s a short summary of each chapter at the beginning, you can’t miss it.

“I thought I'd lost you 25″ Day 25 + ‘Cuddles on a rainy day’ Day 22
This is somehow like 3.5k and it’s 80% hugging lol
(I finally made a fic just for Spyvember!! Originally I had a different idea, but that took on a life of it’s own so please enjoy this instead lol)

I wrote a fic similar to this!! It's about the Master finding out about 'the timeless child' for the first time and having to face his feelings of inferiority and guilt before confronting the Doctor about what he's learned and what he's done
It's called Truth and Reconciliation (here's a link!)

Remember how we used to run through those streets as children?                            All gone now.

Summary: “I... I destroyed a lot of things, but not this... trove of secrets. This is what started it all.”
Missing Scene where the Master goes to Gallifrey and discovers the truth of the timeless child for the first time + alternate ending to The Timeless Children episode
----------
Chapter 1: Truth
"I was just playing, hacking the system. I got lost in there... and then I found... everything."
It wasn't completely a lie.
The Master really had gone home and slipped ever so carefully into the Matrix room one night when there was no one else around to interfere.
He had been playing. He had gone deep into the Matrix to replay some of his greatest hits. Perhaps find a piece of his identity that he had lost along the way when the High Council's manipulation began to corrode his mind from an all too young age and the Doctor's abandonment pushed him to the brink of his remaining sanity.
Outside, the world was dry and cold in the night air, but from where the Master sat completely still on the Matrix's platform- dust caked on the soles of his shoes and pressed into his clothes- he felt a warmth that only reminiscing on past memories could bring him these days.
The Master had been hacking the system. He'd edited together clips of the Doctor and himself from simpler times. Back when they were warmer, back when the Master's made up games never failed to bring bright smiles to their faces.
The Master had gotten lost. He had been watching an old scene from when he and the Doctor used to run across those red fields he remembered so fondly. They got in so much trouble for skipping class to do so- but in all his lives he'd never regretted the decision for a single second.
He never wished to go back to a moment so much. Back when they were young and innocently ignorant to the world around them. Back to when the universe was just the two of them thinking about traveling together and coming up with impossible hypotheticals as their nervous hands occasionally brushed against each other, without knowing that if either mustered the strength to simply reach out, the other would most certainly take their hand.
It ached something terrible in his chest, a gentle pain in his hearts as he wondered how things could have gone so wrong when they had once felt so right.
And then the Master found... everything.
At first it appeared to be nothing- a tiny blip in the ancient memory bank, if even that. But then he made the mistake of scratching at the old film and uncovered a second, lingering layer trapped beneath it. One cradled deeper in both their memories that dragged him under and further back than he had ever been.

Games of Thrones
by Resa_Saso (Better known as Duck Cult founder @mastershearts on Tumblr)
Eight x Dhawan!Master may be considered a crackship by some, but it’s the crackship of my <3. I loved this fic. It has everything: Master and Doctor snarking at eachother, oogling each other, occasional kissing, cute moments and surprise angst that makes me go: “OhGodNoWhyDoesItHurtSoMuchPleaseMore” every damn time! It’s equivalent of a longfic emotional journey in the short span of 3,698 lovely and amazingly written words.
You Again
by embarrassingresultofmyfreetime  (@embarrassingresultofmyfreetime on Tumblr)
I actually received this one quite early but I didn’t notice it till last week and I’m so sorry I didn’t read it before! I loved the setting! And the worldbuilding is simply amazing. I legit had to take a break and compose myself after reading about Missy driving a Rolls Royce and honking like a trucker. Ten characterization is on point and from now on I will use this story as the proof that Ten really goes with every master ever. There’s also a dancing scene and loads of emotional bits near the end and I just LIVE for that.
confession dial (home is where the hearts are)
by space_boye
I may not know much about Delgado!Master and three aside for #1 Christmas nove and those eating while homoerotically swordfighting, but I sure as hell stan them. This one is short and sweet angsty and dark as my soul. I love the confession dial setting, I think it has loads of potential and this short surreal story shows just how much can be done with the concept.
Stay a while
by notjodieyet  ( @not-jodie-yet on Tumblr)
The Doctor being speechless for the first few minutes of interaction with Missy is a big mood cause I, myself, would not be able to talk more than one word per minute if I was in Michelle Gomez presence. Ten really is a drama queen and Missy calling him out on that is both delightful and kinda rich, coming from the queen of all drama herself. Anyways, this fic is 80% very on brand yearning and 20% angst and feels, and yall know that I love feels.
Paris Original
by Raindropsonwhiskers ( @raindropsonwhiskers on Tumblr)
Switching a component of Tensimm with Spydoc can either result in extremely soft cuddly bois in search of comfort, or, like in this case, feral blondies with rage issues…and I love both combination fiercely! I love the setting, and the banter and that bit of sudden angst that interrupted everything made me cry out for more. Just lovely! Also, dance scene, wich will definitely be included if ever I’d do a Thoschei bingo.
family’s always there, even when you aren’t
by bellabart12  (@keeperofthematrix or @bellabart12 on Tumblr)
Why does First Doctor/Theta x Dhawan!Master hurt so much? Who gave this ship such raw power on me? It’s very telling that at the opposite ends of each other lives they still love each other but, where the Doctor loves in a very uncomplicated way the Master is just destroyed by grief and years of yearning and madness. I’d love more even if I feel like I’d crumble on the floor crying for days.
