oh gosh, so a long time ago i made this gifset of the trio and their surname meanings, and today i was like “i wonder why i defaulted to surnames and didn’t try first names?”

so i started looking them up.  i already knew daniel meant “god is my judge” because i watched too much stargate when i was younger.  i was like “that’s...kinda iffy but i could probably make it work”

then i tried samantha, which is a combination of samuel, meaning “god has heard” and anthos meaning “flower.”  neither of those sound too terribly sam-ish, but again, i was like “i could probs bs something with that”

but then i got to tucker.

which means “person who pleats or softens fabric or cloth”

and i was like

yeah nope.  i’ll just not do this then.

I meeeeeean, if we’re accepting the canon of Phantom Planet, he maybe just buried the desire deep down for awhile because it unfortunately resurfaced at an inopportune time.

Although, on that note, in PP, when he makes the decision to change himself back, he seems to....really know what he’s doing.  He fiddles with some buttons, adjusts some settings, and then just walks in and turns it on.  He knew it would work.

So could we then argue that he’s known about this method of fixing himself for awhile? That he’s known it was possible to change back for years...but he chose not to?  They mention as a side remark that the Fentons working on the portal made it “look like it did when he got his powers,” but that doesn’t mean Danny just magically knows how to change himself back all of a sudden.

Maybe he’s looked it up, done his research, and had this method stored in the back of his mind for a long time just in case.  

But he didn’t use that knowledge until it seemed like the only way to protect the people he loved.

Something I’ve been wondering about lately: we can see from mystery meat that Danny initially was looking for a way to reverse the accident so he could be fully human again. We know that by the end of the episode, he’s found a purpose for his powers. But it remains obvious that he would rather be a normal teen. So just when did he give up on “fixing” himself? At what point did this poor child realize that whatever happened to him in the portal was permanent? Was it a gradual shift after months of denial, or was it a sudden realization that he will be a halfa for the rest of his life. Perhaps it was after he met Vlad, a much older halfa that he considered his life, years and years from now, as a half ghost. How would that realization affect the way he thought about his future? What will his children be like, can he even have children? Will he be stuck fighting ghosts even as an old man? Can he ever hope to hold down a job while fighting ghosts? I just wanted an episode where Danny goes “oh crap, this is the rest of my life now. No undoing it.”
