The Devil’s Cauldron
We recently posted on some sedimentary rocks deposited in the world’s youngest forming sea in the Afar triangle (see http://on.fb.me/1791Pmn), mentioning that the continental rifting involved also resulted in a variety of volcanic events. These range from the volcanic plateaus of Ethiopia, through the chains of Africa’s Great Rift to the coastal smaller scale basaltic volcanic fields on both coasts of the Red Sea, both clearly visible as zones of dark rock in satellite photos.

Ptygmatic folds
They develop mainly during granitization and migmatization during the formation of the migmatites and are the inducator of those processes.
Structurally they are defined as a very closely spaced tight fold and are principally developed in situation where there are thick incompetant unit and thin competant unit . Pencil marking the axial plane of the fold.

Bimodal volcanism
What's the main reason behind this peculiar but very common type of volcanism......mainly found along the extensional boundaries like continental rift and the very early stages of Back-arc basin development.....and the field evidences of Bimodal Volcanism are having Igneous rock suite charactarised by a mafic(Basaltic) and felsic(Rhyolitic/Granitic) mingled togather....without any trace or peroids of intermediate volcanism.....thats where the peculiarity lies!!!.......Can anyone add up any reason for this.....comment

Trip to the Alps for this video. Original caption:
The plateau of Emparis, the black lake, the Meije an ideal spot to make a successful timelapse. We needed 2 complete nights to realize the sequences of this timelapse. A touch of clouds, not too much to let the Meije to parry beautiful colors at sunset, wait the breeze to fade so that the lake reflects stars and the Milky Way. This timelapse was realized during the new moons of July and August, very attractive periods, it is necessary to accept some lights of the other observers, and those of the ballets of the snow groomers of the summer ski in the 2 Alps resort . We do not dare to count the number of photos, thousands…
