Cosmic Orphans

Take your blankets,

And keep your smiles, little ones.

Count your stars, sing with the robins,

And sing with each other.

Tomorrow is knocking.

Don’t you feel it? 

The callous, carousel motion of a 

Wonderful, strange, lonesome world

Not your own?

We, cosmic orphans,

Are looking for a pillow 

To clutch, to cry into, to bite,

To scream into,

To cradle our nauseous heads

And throbbing hearts.

Next Bridge

Sunday is passing by,  Flowing past,  As it should be,  Though it won’t tell me. 

I feed its blue mouth with  Grateful pennies, and hopeful dimes.  It gurgles and looks back with watery eyes.

A few tomorrows, and maybe  Some years hence,  Sunday will see my loose change spent,  And for my steady steps, a matching recompense.
