March Update - When Red Meets Blue

I started my second draft after taking my two month break from the vomit draft. Went through the entirety of the first chapter for both perspectives and made notes regarding plot, foreshadowing, backstory, out of character moments, pacing, you name it.

Then of course after finishing it, in traditional fashion, got distracted and instead of moving on to the next chapter to annotate, I immediately started filling in things and revising the first chapter. (Which was fun, I don't regret it.) And in the middle of that I got distracted with some last minute world building.

Before I had my city as very nondescript, I wasn't really going to go into it. Now I have something a little more concrete and having been making districts and suburbs etc. using google slides/Canva. The setting really hasn't changed in the grand scheme of things just as of yet. As this draft I'm really focusing on Characterization and adding plot I missed.

Hoping to get at least 5 more chapters annotated by the end of the month, and fully finish the new changes to chapter one.

Advertising is a nightmare and I have no idea what I’m doing so I’m just gonna rant about the book that I’m writing

It’s got cool monsters in it. A not so secret society. Academic modern setting but with the Oxford gothic vibes ifykyk. Uhhh Ill-fated yin and yang lovers(not the main characters dw). Duo POV from our two main Characters, the student and teacher. Vigilantism— magical realism. Found family of course.

It’s called When Red Meets Blue and it should be getting published in August :) follow me for more updates. I’m sure it’ll be a fun time getting there

MY DAD WATCHES NATLA ep 1-3

First time he's ever seen the show but he knows some things.

1 "aangs a cute kid" , My dad really likes fun characters so the avatar will probably be his favorite.

2 "If they get together imma be mad" -In reference to Zuko touching Katara's scarf- He's already a firm Kataang shipper. Him sneering at Jet was hilarious.

3 "Well that was quick....I guess one of them die... or they just never see eachother again?" -in reference to suki giving Sokka her fan, though I can tell he was appeased with their chemistry -

Cultural Anatomy: Sokka’s Choker

From what I’ve researched, chokers were traditionally worn by some Native American tribes rather than by the Inuit, who traditionally preferred looser fitting necklaces. But Sokka’s particular choker is identical to traditional Alaskan Inuit bracelets, which are made from walrus or whale ivory.

Which means that Sokka might just be wearing a bracelet as a choker. And I can’t think of anything more perfectly Sokka than using an item for something beyond its intended purpose. I can totally imagine how the whole thing started:

Mother Kya: “One day, when Katara gets married, I’ll give her this necklace that Gran-Gran gave to me.”

Lil Sokka: “No fair! Why don’t I get anything?”

Hakoda: “Sokka, this necklace is for girls only.”

Lil Sokka: “Fine, I’ll just make my own necklace.” *ties his bracelet around his neck and immediately starts choking*

Gran-Gran: *sighs* I’ll get more string…

Okay, I’ve been thinking about this for a while but it’s always bugged me how Toph’s oldest daughter looks like Zuko and her youngest daughter looks like Sokka (a commonly accepted head cannon) and how that must’ve caused a lot of drama, but I just found out today that Zuko raised Izumi by himself like he never canonically married anyone and then I was like oh cool, so he got a surrogate or some thing and then I connected the dots.

So Sokka never marries anyone. Zuko’s never marries anyone. Zuko and Sokka spend a LOT time with each other up until Sokka dies. Zuko has a surrogate child… Toph’s children looking oddly similar…. it’s too coincidental for me. 

So yes I’m insinuating that they were gay and Toph was their surrogate.

And it makes sense why Toph never told Lin and Suyin because their lineage would be a massive safety issue concerning the amount of assassins that were after Zuko. I completely believe Toph would hide that from them for their safety.

Lin and Izumi look almost like twins! Toph probably wanted two kids and Zuko and Sokka wanted one. Boom.
