KOSA UPDATE!!

So I've been out of the loop for a while, but apparently we're going through this again 🙄.

From what I've heard, KOSA is going to be a topic of discussion this week (Jan 31, 2024) and from the sounds of it there have been ZERO changes made to the bill.

There is a fine line between legitimately protecting children and censoring and eliminating the privacy of everybody.

If protecting children is a concern, why not address the root cause of the issue. I.E. address any and all forms of bullying, take away communication options from people who have a history of being predatory....

There are other ways to protect children! And KOSA, and bills similar to it, are not it!

I ask that you please contact your senators and representatives, tell them to vote no, tell them the reason why KOSA is bad, read the bill and speak out about it.

KOSA does not protect kids, not with the way it currently is; it only seeks to remove the privacy of everybody such as implementing age verification. In addition, it will restrict or outright ban certain apps or media that the government deems as inappropriate, which is a violation of our First Ammendment to free press and speech.

Contact your senators and representatives ASAP. We CANNOT let this pass!

Good fucking lord stop spreading stuff about KOSA and actually READ the fucking bill. I bet you didn't read ONE line from the thing, or you wouldn't be freaking out. It's not "world wide" it's in the USA. It's not banning kids from the internet. Stop fear mongering.

I did read the bill. The entire bill. I'm not trying to fear monger, I'm simply trying to inform. I know the bill won't affect everyone worldwide, what I meant was, that it will IMPACT everyone worldwide as many sites originate in America and if its passed it will place censorships on many different sites. And I did not say that it would ban kids from the internet, but it WILL censor kids and adults online as well as information like medication info, accessibility, etc. I am not trying to fear monger, I am trying to do my best in understanding the bill and inform others of a potential concern. I'm sorry if I've misinterpreted and caused you to worry, but I'm just trying to inform others as accurately as I can.

KOSA UPDATE

It passed the Commerce Committee markup with a unaminous vote. But this shit is far from over.

Keep calling your senators and representatives, email them, and POST about the KOSA bill and its dangers!

KOSA is dangerous as it now threatens end to end encryption, which means EVERYTHING we have internet is in threat of being compromised. We NEED to do something about it and even if you have anxiety, you can do something about. I did, and I felt like I was going to die as I was doing it, but I did it!

If you're not comfortable with calling, email them, sign petitions, post about it on social media. Blow KOSA up, it worked last time and that's why it didn't pass. So let's do it again!

We need action, our privacy and our safety is at stake! This goes beyond violating our 1st and 4th amendments!

These bills are a threat to kids AND adults and they need to be stopped! Keep calling, keep emailing, keep being a pain in their ass!

Edit: No further moves are going to be made on KOSA until after August as Congress is on recess, but it WILL come back in September. So we need to keep pushing, we need to be loud! Keep calling and email your representatives and senators!

So as of tomorrow, the Kids Online Safety Act, is set for markup as of July 27 at 10:00 am. And for those who aren't aware, this bill, if passed, does not protect kids. If merely eradicates privacy, freedom of speech, and unlawfully searches and seizes everything you say and do on the web.

It will censor everything the government does not like and if you want "unrestricted access" you will need to prove you are above the age of 18, which will most likely mean you will need to upload some kind of ID. Additionally, if you need to upload your ID, there is no guaranteed protection that your image or the ID itself will not be swiped or sold like how Instagram/Facebook/Twitter did when they sold data to the Russians.

This will also be harmful to kids, especially those to have a bad living situation. KOSA does nothing but police the Internet for everything you say and do on the Internet. It will censor medical information, history, information, and restrict and limit, if not outright ban what can be posted on social media.

Sites like Ao3 (Archive of Our Own), Wattpad, Tiktok, Tumblr, etc.... EVERYTHING will be affected, art especially. And what's more, is KOSA passes, it will be a gateway to pass all the other bad internet bills like the RESTRICT ACT, EARN IT ACT, COOPER DAVIS, etc.

The Internet will turn into a hellscape for everyone; kids, companies, and adults alike!

The picture above, from @dontdelete.art, is a call to action in protesting these bad internet bills. As of today, July 26, we need to protest against this bill for our privacy and our freedom. Call your representatives and senators, AND ALSO call the Commerce Committee as they are the ones overseeing this mark up meeting.

The Commerce Committe's numbers are:

Call them and tell them you oppose KOSA, tell them the dangers, tell them how it breaks our first and fourth ammendment rights and how it violates our privacy.

We only have one more day before it goes to mark up, so let's make it count. Spend today speaking out on KOSA, post on social media talking about the dangers of KOSA, call and email your representatives, senators, and the committee!

The US Government is trying to pass a bill that will censor the Internet under the guise of protecting kids! And it has bipartisan support.

This bill is called KOSA, Kids Online Safety Act. This basically gives government the power to censor anything they deem as "inappropriate" or "harm content" to kids. And if you want unrestricted access to the Internet, the bill stated you will need to prove you are a user over the age of 18, which means you will likely need to give your ID in order to access the web. And there is no guarantee listed that your ID will be safe alongside the rest of your data online, if this passes (think how well Instagram and Facebook and how well they've protected data i.e sold it to Russians).

This bill also includes censoring history as well as websites that could be medically helpful, in ADDITION to restricting or out right banning certain apps and websites like;

- Tumblr

-TikTok

-Wattpad

-Ao3 (Archive of our own)

- Medical Information: for things like Mental Health, Sex Ed, medication

And more

The bill is set for markup on July 27 2023 at 10:00 am.

Also, if this passes it'll be the start of quickly passing other internet acts like the EARN IT ACT and the RESTRICT ACT.

Please call and or email your representatives and senators. You can find the needed contact information on Congress.gov. This is a abuse of power and a violation of our 1st amendment rights to freedom of speech, choice, and press, as well as the 4th amendment that prohibits unlawful searches and seizures, and a violation of privacy.

SIDE NOTE: While I agree that there needs to be protections for kids online, KOSA, as well as the other bad internet bills, is not it. And if protecting kids is really the concern, then why not focus sights on implementing regulations that holds the people who intend to harm kids accountable?

As an add on, these acts, if passed, will not only affect TikTok, Twitter, Reddit, Tumblr, and Discord, but it will ALSO affect sites like

They claim it is because of how kids are exposed to adult and LGBTQ+ content.

But I raise the question, who is responsible for giving a kid a device to access the Internet? Who is responsible for monitoring what a kid searches up and what kinds of content they consume online?

These acts go against everything America was made to stand for. And that is having the freedom and ability to have a choice.

If these acts pass it will mean everything we say and do online will be policed and restricted, if not outright taken away. And the security and privacy will be made worse for people AND kids alike online.

It is a violation of our freedom of speech, our freedom of choice, and our right to privacy.

@everyone  Update on KOSA and all these other bills: We know DesignItForUs is visibly frustrated these bills have gone nowhere. “Child Safety” bills like KOSA, earn it, stop CSAM, have all not moved much and Schumer has slightly shifted to focusing more on AI. DesignItForUS and a bunch of other child orgs are heading to DC this weekend to lobby for KOSA this upcoming week. It is very very likely that it will move to markup in the week following that, which means it will pass out of committee and onto the Senate Floor where it will most likely pass due to the massive bipartisan support it has both in and out of congress. After KOSA is marked up, all these bad internet bills could very much get rolled up into one package and passed like that, destroying the internet all together. My advice is go all out this weekend and throughout July. This month is *the* decisive factor for what happens going forward. Call call call call the Commerce committee **__(202-224-0411)__** and Cantwells office **__([phone]) __**. Contact influencers and orgs by dming them and asking them to speak about KOSA. 

Previous announcment

July is going to be decisive. We know that “child advocacy: orgs are heading up to Congress that month (don’t know the exact dates yet, but the first week the Senate is not in session due to holiday). Those three weeks after are going to be some of the most important for KOSA. Currently, we know Cantwell (Senate Commerce Committee Chair) is hesitant, but lobbying can sway her. I’ve also heard that she doesn’t like Blumenthal, so we can use that in our favor. We also know some of these pro-KOSA orgs are frustrated that no movement has happened with KOSA, and Chuck Schumer is focused more on AI rn than these bills. HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean they won’t pick up these internet censorship laws again once these groups are done lobbying in July. 

I called to leave messages today for Cantwell. I’m going to call all next week. **We *HAVE *to go all out this month.** Twitter, Reddit, Tiktok, Tumblr, Discord. Whatever you have, whatever connections you have with people, please utilize. Think outside the box. Both tf out of these senators by jamming their phone lines with anti-KOSA talking points.

AI needs to stay away from art and writing. It takes images and written words and mashes them together in a proverbial blender to make something "new". And hell it doesn't even do that right.

Fanworks and nonfanworks alike are made by humans FOR HUMANS, they convey emotion and originality that AI can not and will not. Fanworks are intended for fun, just like completely original works, and that fun could potentially be stripped away due to the threat of theives.

Whether you are a artist, a writer, or even someone that is striving to do one or both activities, know that YOU are capable of creating something original without the use of AI.

YOU have a brain, use it.

If you struggle with an idea, use a an idea generator, the internet certainly has a surplus of them.

Need advice? Use a web browser, join a community and ask questions, find a book, even if it's a 'How to...', or take a class.

We all have resources that we can use to help make and develop an idea. So let's use them. But it all starts with YOU.

AI is not capable of thinking the way you do, or any human for that matter. It just copies and pastes, mixes and mashes the images and words that it is fed. It isn't original. It is theft.

AI, as of right now, is a parasite. It has the potential to be good, but this kind of use is not it. Not when it threatens the livelihood of professional and recreational artists and writers.

It may be cheaper, but the result you get out of it is the amount you pay for it. Cheap, worthless, and unoriginal.

Creativity is in EVERYONE. Take some time to use it, it doesn't matter if it comes out "bad" because everyone has to start somewhere. But the important thing is, is that it came from YOU, not a machine.

Keep your projects safe and stay creative!

ICYMI, there was fear that companies were scraping public AO3 fics to train their AI without the consent of AO3 or its users. That fear has been confirmed.

AO3 has written about what they’re doing (and what they’re not able to do), and they recommend restricting your work to AO3 registered users only. [Instructions here]

Okay, okay I am so late on this but I just skimmed over the last few and final chapters of Nanbaka and

My heart has been ripped out and stomped on and I have SOOOOOO many questions.

- What's been going through their heads all this time?

- Have they ever genuinely cared about Jyugo?

- What was their motive to commit murder?

Again I only skimmed and saw a few of the translations and pages so I don't have the complete picture of what's going on.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!

To all my Nanbaka fans, after months of planning and rewriting, the story "Nanbaka: The Walking Dead" is finally back up on my Wattpad account @Cheshire_J

The story follows Jyugo and the Nanba gang having to survive a mysterious and lethal virus which forces the gang to flee from the prison. However, in the midist of escaping, they all end up getting separated.

And upon their arrival at the mainland, they soon find a horrible truth that only confirms their fears.

Though, their problems don't just begin and end with the undead, they also need to worry about rival survivors, collecting supplies, and finding a suitable shelter to call home. But being divided does the Nanba gang no justice as one group struggles to survive from the lack of supplies, another group has to worry about the onslaught of incoming threats from the dead, and another endures tensions from a gang of rouge survivors.

Will the Nanba gang be able to survive Armageddon or will they succumb to the threats of the dead?
