Someone on Twitter mentioned that this was the only time that Vash was able to wear his coat with both of his flesh and blood arms

And while that's sad enough... it probably doesn't bother Vash, he probably even thinks he deserves it if it occurs to him. But you know who it probably kills? The man who realized he fucked up and was an idiot and ruined this boy's life, punching the doorframe in grief as Luida ran after Vash, and then designing an intricate lost tech arm for the poor kid to try and make up for it. (At least Brad realized he fucked up, no?)

I imagine Vash is very good at playing games and is just having a blast, while Meryl is competitive and is just trying so hard to win. So Vash sometimes drives his kart over a banana or makes his character 'jump too far' and miss the platforms so Meryl thinks she's winning.

So, I had an inspiration from a post. So, I present you this. Angsty fic with a happy ending :DD

Vash is sitting on the edge of a cliff. He doesn't really think about his purpose right know. Knives and him are going to waste away in a few decades anyway. And what are decades for a powerful, almost unkillable creature? Literally nothing. Vash understands know. Why people try to do their best to leave the actual mark on this life. Vash definitely outlives two generations of humans. Learns too much for one lifespan.

Knives is looking at his brother's hair. He rethinks everything. His life with Legato, his gang. Good and bad things that he has done in his long life. It was too long for his liking already.

They can both feel that tension rising. Something between them is growing again, yet it is broken still. Like a glass vase that you try to stick back together. Hundreds of peaces that scatter along the floor. The red, blood stained carpet still hold some of these peaces. Vash calmly collects them, trying to understand Knives as best as he possibly can.

Their relationships would never be the same. But it will star from a new page.

Vash decides to write the first word on it, when a figure appears. It's too similar, too unforgettable.

Rem slowly walks towards them. Knives is stunned by his twin's reaction, but, realising who he sees, he almost collapses to the floor again.

Vash immediately takes off, lifting Rem off the ground. Aged woman laughs, hugs her adoptive child and squeezes him in her thin hands. They touch foreheads, smiling with unbelievable amount of love and joy. Vash can't say anything. Rem says it all:

— I missed you. Both of you.

Rem feels. She knows how much twins had done, Knives can not bear the thought of Rem actually knowing about his fault in that accident. Yet he can't pull away the hand that Rem takes in her fingers. Vash holds his mother by the other palm, breather in the dust in the air and smiles brighter than he ever did after the death of Wolfwood. Knives turns his head to the horizon, smiles lightly and goes towards the sun with only family that he has. To live out the time they still have. To compensate for the time they lost
